Weapon Cooldown by Oana 2013-08-26T04:16:00
Thanks. I actually had never seen the Scarlet Witch, but googling it, you are right! Heh.

Thanks. I actually had never seen the Scarlet Witch, but googling it, you are right! Heh.
@unitycoder: Thanks! I'll give it a try.
@autlos: Thank you. Yeah, it does start very slow... I should have added more enemy variety and making it overall more bullet helly.
Thanks for the feedback, particularly about what features are lacking (so I can add them later). Keep it coming :)
So you managed to put out not one but three minigames! That's awesome! I also really appreciate the extra effort put into audio. Still, I suck at the game! Only 40 points... Gonna try to get better at it. You definitely succeeded at your goal of making a fun game, looking forward to your artsy game for ld28.
It unfortunately crashed on me but I got to see enough of it to know I LOVE this entry! One of the most interesting ideas I've played so far.
Cute maze game idea. It is a lot more fun than all the "Do X in 10 seconds" games. Still, I am glad I read the comments before playing the game to find out about the mouse lock...
Please give more instructions next time, and have a nice description on your page. It would really really help.
This is crazy fun. I like the graphics too, even if they are quite minimalistic. I don't get why flowers kill you though... Also, the fox feels a wee bit floaty. But overall, great job!
Man the game is hard! But I really really like it. It's more like a puzzle game than an action game, figuring out the patterns of the aliens.
I guess this is what a Roomba feels like... I really like the concept, and the voice is indeed really cute. I also really really love that when you die, you restart from the same level rather than the whole game (as many other level-based games here tend to force you to). Nice job!
"I kill you now!" lol, I love it! Did you really model all of that in just a weekend? It is very impressive.
Awesome idea. Why didn't I think of that...
There's something awfully compelling about this game... The games itself are quite simple... But I think the graphics really make the experience nice.
Yay, 1700 points! It's fun enough trying to figure out how to max out the score. Cute graphics and humor too, I really like the dismemberment effect.
This is probably the best use of the theme I have seen so far. The game is so cute and funny. Great job!
Very good for a first game. You should definitely continue making them.
It was very compelling to see what would happen next, so good use of the theme. I really liked small details such as your character moving a bit as well when there's wind. It is a lot better than many of the games I've seen around here.
Interesting idea. I love the humor in it. The sound is however a bit annoying (still better than my complete lack of sound).
I like the charge mechanic. Also, I remember trying out your game earlier on and it was rather complicated to get right, the tutorial really helped to clarify some things. A weird bug happened at the end, however... camera got all weird. Doesn't matter though, the rest of the game got the theme really right
It's cute but it's not really a game... I could easily see it develop into one though.
Yay for slicing stuff. My only complaint is the poor choice of font color on top... can't see a thing! Other than that, it is fun. Just one question... why do you also cut the bowl? :))
Cute. I love the falling particles, +graphics for that. I got to level 7! :)
That was interesting... It is very skill based, and I liked that.It feels a bit like the 3 lives system is a bit overdoing it... but I guess it just adds to the challenge
That is a very nice idea, a great way to make a political statement (to those who get it at least). It does kind of show how a large part of americans, or politicians at least, think. Great humor and mood.
Heh we really did have the same idea on the switching weapons. I like that yours has a more elaborate reason for why that happens.
I beat level 3! I really had fun with this entry, nice job overall. The sounds however were really annoying, but they really helped notice if jams were happening.
Cute game. A lot more fun than all those "time your clicking/button pressing right" games. A bit too random though. I lost a level in spite of opening all the boxes.
Cute sound effects.
This is really cool!
@Aske Are you using a Mac? For some reason, the web player seems to be acting strangely on it. I am not sure how to fix it.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!
I love the idea, and I can see this turning into a pretty nice commercial game in the future. I'm not sure I like the level design though. I finished level 2 mostly by guesswork rather than fully understanding what each button did, and level 3 didn't even give me a chance to think about things. Also, being able to hold to move in a direction would be lovely.
This reminds me a bit of those airport rush games (which I rather like). I finished level 5 and then it just sits there (I guess that is the last one?). It was overall really fun, and it worked well for me. No bugs, apparently.
I like tower defense games! You have a pretty solid concept here. It also seems to work fine, and it's fairly easy to understand. My only complaints are about graphics and UI. I find that my eyes hurt a bit while playing (not in a metaphorical way), due to all the flashing and line thing. Also, I find the upgrade menu to be unusable. I can't see what I've highlighted. It seems to have a dark red color, and I can't see what I've selected for upgrading. Still, with a bit of polish, I see this becoming a really great game.
It actually took me a while to figure this game out. I felt it was my duty because you rated my game! While I was a bit frustrated at first, I am glad I stuck around because the game is really fun and has a nice idea.
*SPOILER ALERT!*
The red one was the tricky part. At first I saw those tiny things and I thought I had to make the tiny ones kill each other, but lasers seem to have no effect on each other... Then I moved around and found the big guy, so I had to use the little guys to kill the big guy, but I died in the process due to the wall edges being so blurry. Then I went back in the red portal and was confused that the big guy was no longer there. I figured he spawns after a while so I waited for a couple of mins playing with the small guys, and then I figured I had to kill a number of small guys to spawn the big guy (which seems to be what's going on?). Once I finally got the first weapon and understood how to get more, it became a lot more fun!
P.S. Green seems to be a heal ability! (Took me a while too)
Thanks for trying my game!
I found your game to be quite fun overall, with a few minor issues. The most significant one is lack of hit animation. I'm still not quite sure how combat works. It seems that if stuff is within a certain distance and I hit space, it dies. But bats always get to hit me first, no matter what I do. In the 3rd world I ended up with TONS of bats, and very few mushrooms. I guess I was supposed to avoid them and only hit them as a last resort? But there were too many of them for that, surrounding me eventually.
Congrats on finishing the game! This could actually turn into a commercial title with some polish and more content!
Chrome is not letting me download it, saying something about it being malicious. Maybe it would be a good idea to archive it or something? (Or I could disable my malware protection...)
Cute idea. I like the progression curve and the story.
It took me quite a while to figure out how to use the controls. It is rather weird, although it makes sense once you get it.
My one big problem was that after a while, my engine power and burn duration would randomly get deselected after pressing a few times. Also, the sounds were rather annoying (my sounds are rather bad too, so that's a common thing heh).
Pretty nice zen game, even if also really difficult. I loved the music and the overall feel of it. Even if, yeah... you can cheat by just finding 2 close planets of the same color and farming score with them. But that's an easy fix, and for a prototype, it's really good.
Cool trippy visuals! The game is really hard though. The kick seems to barely do any damage, and the 3rd ability doesn't seem to do anything at all other than a fancy animation and draining your mana. I progressed through most of it using the second shooty ability.
Seems to work fine for me now. So basically you build pretty things without a specific goal, am I getting this right? It would be nice to have a goal of sorts added later on. Also, I haven't quite figured out how to visit other people's worlds. And it would be nice to be able to rotate the camera, or dig. Awesome soundtrack, btw.
Not bad! Not bad at all! It is a pretty fun game with a clear objective. Graphics are ok for their purpose. The controls feel a bit floaty, but good. I like that you have powerups. It is rather funny that you can just shoot villagers to collect their souls... Also the leaderboard is working strangely... putting out the google ID rather than the name.
As for improvements, just make the controls tighter maybe. Also, I kind of dislike that when you go off to one side you appear in the other. It is rather confusing, but that's just a personal preference.
P.S. I think you need to share your source code too for the 48h compo.
Pretty hard game, but I had lots of fun with it! I like time management games in general, and this is a pretty well done example. Good visuals with a clean intuitive interface, nice music, well executed progression!
It installs and connects fine but I can't seem to get anything moving on either desktop or phone. WASD and tilting the phone do nothing. Not sure what's up with that... ping is great and all seems well...
(Tested on windows 7 and samsung galaxy s3 mini, btw)
Your latest update actually made it work! Tested on the same windows 7 and samsung galaxy s3 mini. This is sooo cool! It would make an awesome party game!
I am very impressed from a technological standpoint. While it could do with some more polish and effects, it is already a pretty fun game, so good job. I'll try to get some friends over and play it with multiple devices!
Couldn't get the jar running. Something about my security settings disallowing it? Anyway, windows exe worked fine.
I really like the idea and I believe it shows what a guy working in PR must feel every day!
That was fun! Reminds me a bit of Phage Wars and similar games. I conquered everything on Easy, but there didn't seem to be an end state. It took me a while to figure out that you could use the slider thingy to determine what percentage of the ships moved out... I thought you had to do it one by one! But once I figured it out, it got pretty easy and I haven't noticed any bugs, so well done!
So ummm... I defeated Jupiter. I have to admit it was pretty damn satisfying to smack things around, even if the game is rather silly. Using AD to turn is rather annoying... Would maybe have been nicer if it was regular mouse look with click to swing nunchuks and right click to thrust forward.
You should probably mention that scroll wheel determines the ship's speed. Took me a while to figure it out. Other than that, it is a nice idea and a good try. Pretty good music too. And I had a good laugh seeing the enemies jitter like that!
@Orange - try minimizing the browser or switch to another browser if it's Chrome. Unity had been acting up like that in my own game.
@Samuel - Congrats on finishing a game! With the new Unity, eh? I was worried people might have issues with it so I reverted to 4.5. Anyway, the game was cute, but I actually could not destroy any of the pods. Wasn't fast enough to dodge their bullets and it seems they kill me faster than I kill them...
ZOMG WALL OF TEXT! TL;DR but the rules were fairly simple and the in-game instructions were really useful. Might also be because I had a similar-ish idea a while ago, but with one world and regular playing cards... Anyway, really well done, I would love to play this as a full version at some point. BTW, thanks for mentioning FakeMusicGenerator. I never heard of it before.
That was a weird experience. I had no idea what I was doing half the time due to it being impossible to see anything. I was just hugging the walls trying to find something along them. I guess it gives you an accurate view of what it's like to be in darkness.
That is a pretty original game! And surprisingly fun and challenging. Pretty smooth controls, and I haven't noticed any bugs. Well done!
If you think your game is hard, try mine :P
Anyway, the idea is pretty nice, and it is fairly easy to get to the other world. The problem is landing there... The area to land in is a bit too narrow. It would be nice if it could be a larger platform, moonlander-style. Also, the controls feel a bit weird and floaty. The engine acceleration feels a bit too sudden, and the rotation is too big. I tap the key a bit and the ship rotates like 60 degrees. If you are using a rigidbody for it, I would recommend using AddForce on keydown, and increasing the angular drag. On a more positive note, I like the audio and grpahics, and the use of the theme is pretty good! Congrats on finishing a game!
Lol and I thought I made a difficult game... It is pretty fun, although it would be nice to have it gradually increase in difficulty, starting out slow and with few objects and picking up the pace... But still, good job!
Cute idea! It does seem like a fun thing to play with a friend once you've had too many beers. Push them off the world in game and away from the keyboard IRL? Does it have a score counter and an end state? That could be easily added anyway. Good job!
OP, thanks for playing my game. You can fix the security error by adding a certificate to your game. Maybe look here: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/security/rsa_signing.html . You might want to add the following to your description:
To everyone getting "security settings have blocked an untrusted application from running":
Search for a program called "Configure Java" on your computer, run it, go to the Security tab, select "Medium" and try running the game. Remember to set it back to high after you have run it.
Now for the actual rating. 190k score WOOOO!
I love the big moon effect! It is crazy fun!
I like the game overall. The physics seemed a bit weird, and the moon would often behave in unexpected ways. Also, the difference between destroying an alien and losing a life is too small. I'd go with making the earth blow up and reappearing or something to signal that better to the player.
Other than that, the graphics are pretty nice. Big moon gets pixelated, but eh... that can easily be fixed with a higher res pic. Particle effects are really nice. Sound is OK.
Congrats on finishing a game!
I really liked the idea, and had quite a bit of fun with it. The post-compo version fixes a lot of the issues I had initially (like trying to figure out what the shotgun did). I still have to vote based on the original, but good job in understanding the issues the game initially had and fixing them!
Only one complaint: music gave me a headache. Literally. Sorry man, love your game, but it needs new music!
Bonus points in humor for title! Also, congrats, it looks like a fairly complete and nice entry. Could use some sound polish, but overall, it seems pretty good. I found normal to be quite difficult, but fair.
I find it quite fun to figure out the best pattern for every factory type.
