LD33 — You are the Monster

The adventures of the Squire and the Liar by JonathanG 2015-09-04T17:24:00

One of the very best game of this LD33.

I'll start with a minor complain about the usability of the interface (main menu, map) which doesn't seem consistent and easy to use. Switching between mouse and keyboard is not really practical. But once you are used to it, it's fine.

I love the concept, I love the gameplay, I love the art, I love the music, I love the procedurally generated worlds, I love the random events. I beat this game and I keep replaying it. Really great job here. That's really sad you have so little reviews, your game deserves to be way more known and played.

Monster Truck Logistics by PTSnoop 2015-08-31T10:39:00

What an original interpretation of the theme.

Monstaaaaar! by ilikescifi 2015-08-27T16:49:00

Nice graphics, cool music and good concept. I wish there were more levels but I am also wondering how the game mechanics can offer some challenge and variety. A good game with lot of potential.

Justice Five by randoman 2015-08-25T08:15:00

If i could rate this game in the "Frustration" category, I'd give it a 5/5 XD I killed all of them, and it was such a joy every time. THEY made me a monster !
This game made me curse so much, but I loved the challenge ! Each battle was epic, interesting and unique. Sadly the jump is a bit wonky and the monster very slippery. But I'm guessing it's part of the design. Funnily, the first boss seemed to be the most difficult one. Maybe because it's the one when I learned how to control this monster.
Music is not bad but unfortunately it keeps restarting every time we die.

Monster Pizza by dalbinblue 2015-08-26T10:27:00

While most of the people went for evil monsters (or anything evil that made this thing a monster), you totally went the other way and it's simply genius !
I love the goofy face of this clumsy monster trying his best to not destroy anything and be nice to people.

Very good job.

Fire monster by dvdking 2015-08-31T10:49:00

The style is simply awesome ! Very fun to play as well. It was such a joy to discover I could shoot diagonally ;)

MonsterMystery by ShadowBrain 2015-08-26T10:26:00

Very promising game engine here.
Good job on that one. I wish you have more time than these 26 hours ;) I'm looking forward a longer version in the future maybe.

Colossal Shakedown by wallmasterr 2015-08-27T10:49:00

Too bad I don't have a Kinect so I cannot really rate this entry. The game looks promising on the video. Very nice graphics as well ;)

Ovipositor by DMinsky 2015-08-25T09:12:00

Looks awesome.

Tactical Superiority by HuvaaKoodia 2015-08-25T13:22:00

Very sad you couldn't finish it, there is great potential. I'm looking forward your post-jam version ;)

Edge of Grey by MinionStudios 2015-08-27T07:25:00

Really great atmosphere and art style. Like many people here I found the fighting system a bit confusing at first because of how slow it is, but after getting used to it, everything gets better ;)

Robo Monster Hunt by faemir 2015-08-27T11:00:00

Very sad that the game crashes at the 5th level. Graphics are awesome and concept is great. So i won't consider this crash in my rating.

Road To Hell by Hyoga-3D 2015-09-03T07:04:00

Doesn't really fit the theme, but really polished and fun to play.

The Virus by okmmjyygv 2015-09-06T14:49:00

What a good compo entry ! Not all mini games are equals in term of difficulty, but sometimes it's good to rest a bit between two very stressful levels.

The Void Beast by Nichii 2015-08-27T07:46:00

I really wish there was a minimap and a way to sneak behind the humans undetected without turning invisible. Except that, very nice game.

Delicious Cortex by deepnight 2015-08-26T10:00:00

Simply perfect.
One of the best LD33 game I have played.

Spoody by Kerdelos 2015-08-26T10:58:00

Interesting concept

Monster Tag by Greg 2015-08-25T13:37:00

Nice art, fun concept. I know what to do with my colleagues now :D

Intergalactic Love Machine by Slothmachine 2015-08-27T17:31:00

Simply wonderful !

Adula by conormn 2015-08-30T13:13:00

So much potential here.

Legendary by marvalgames 2015-09-04T17:49:00

Not very polished, but I like the music ;) With some more time it could be really fun.

Monday Night Monsters by spotco 2015-08-28T10:53:00

Very well polished. Interesting game play with cool graphics. It took some time to learn how to play properly, but once it's done, it's pure pleasure.

Camp Starvation by Double Zero One Zero 2015-08-26T10:43:00

Wonderful game. Finally one where I really felt like I was the monster, and I didn't really have a choice.

Lord of Fantasy III by DraKlaW 2015-08-27T06:55:00

Totally agree with Jajo :-/

Chicken Girl in Toyhouse! by LevieDAudio 2015-09-04T18:08:00

Nice concept. Sometimes the cubes go a bit too crazy and I get stuck inside of them. But it's really fun to play, I wish there were more levels. I especially like how the music changes smoothly when transforming.

Minotaur by cirpig29 2015-08-27T06:52:00

Too bad i can't kill the guys ;)
Not sure why i won also. This looks promising if the game gets a bit deeper.

Minotaur by MrSylar59 2015-08-26T13:05:00

I am wondering if keyboard only or joystick controls would have made the experience better. Breaking walls is nice, but I ended up abusing it to avoid all traps. And the joy of exploring the labyrinth was gone. As AndyBrown said, having some penalty when breaking walls could maybe work.

Good overall job anyway ;)

You'll find the monster when it's over by pi_pi3 2015-09-04T16:48:00

It crashes on the 32bit version on Windows7 when picking up the rocket launcher :

But I see great potential for this game and I wish I could play more.

Monster1 by McFood 2015-08-26T13:21:00

Nice story, nice feelings. I liked it even if it was pretty easy and short. My only complain goes to Unity ignoring the rich text from time to time, leaving me with all the color tags around the place.

Escape From Science by ryanisaacg 2015-08-28T19:00:00

The jump makes the game pretty easier, even if the last level was very hard to complete. But it still lacks accuracy and I would have loved to have a shadow to avoid landing always on the spikes. I don't really know why the level full of trap tiles had a very slow framerate.

Monster's REVENGE! by keyle 2015-08-30T11:42:00

I'm wondering if there is some subtle motion blur that is making my pc very slow while running this game. Except that I love the art style. My first reflex was to explore the entire level to look for the heroes, until I realised I only had to camp in the center. Very good compo entry, very well polished.

Monsters...BRAWL! by A-Flat Miner Studios 2015-08-25T06:46:00

Multiplier is awesome ! AI does a pretty good job. Nice concept.

T.H.E.Y by WuPex 2015-08-25T09:41:00

Art style is awesome. Controls are a bit funny, but my biggest problem was the shadow that looks offset. I wasn't sure at first if i was hovering and gave me trouble to navigate without falling off.

Beats of Nightmare by Insality 2015-08-27T07:54:00

I love games like Super Hexagon, Boson X and Velocibox. This one fits there perfectly. I would have just jizzed in my pants if collecting orbs was sync with the beat. But I can imagine this would have make the level design a hell to build. I'm just wondering how it fit the theme, but the game is so great that's the only thing i can complain about. Good job on the art style and music too.

GROWL by Ulydev 2015-08-27T11:06:00

Haha, nice reversed super hexagon ;)
Pretty fun to play. Good job.

Petit Monstre by LeoM 2015-08-26T11:38:00

More like an interactive story than a game, but very well executed. Good interpretation of the theme.

Monster by SMASH BASH 2015-08-26T12:11:00

As said by Raspadsistema, choosing "kill millions to save one" gives sense to the story. I chose "kill one to save millions" and the entire experienced was very confusing until I came here to read comments.
I wish there was an auto-walk button ;)
Nice environments.

Monster by SMASH BASH 2015-08-30T14:09:00

Thanks for your explanation ! ;) Mostly this part :

"They are not human, so we can not understand their motivation. They do some rituals by allowing humans to meet with human history (in ruins) and understand their monstrosity. And die after that in a trap (falling from a cliff)."

There was no way to guess this part, or maybe I missed it. It makes everything much deeper now ;)

The Devil's Daughter by SinclairStrange 2015-08-26T04:59:00

Awesome game. Congratulations on the art style and the look in general. Audio is great and the different in-game comments add to the fun. Profanity gun and kitty launcher are just wonderful.
I'm maybe a bit retarded because i couldn't get how to use the wall jump properly for en entire game. It made the vertical level and the last one so difficult. My hands hurt now, but i beat the game. Hopefully there are infinite lives. Thanks a lot for that ;)
Interesting level design too. Big plus for the one with the key where everything goes into planning in the first trip.

One of my favorite game of this LD33 !

City Destruction Simulator 2015 by OriginalOldMan 2015-08-30T12:12:00

A QWOP game where you really need to be a tentacle monster to play XD Or maybe in co-op mode sharing the keyboard with others ? Might be fun actually ;)

Eat or be eaten by v01pe 2015-08-30T11:57:00

In 6 hours only ? Well done !
The game runs very slow for me too, but I managed to play it. Interesting mechanics.

Room Chaos Monster by Demy 2015-08-30T11:22:00

I love the humor. The game seemed a bit short but hooooooo, a bonus level. \o/ That's a good game.
I think I have too many of these monsters in my home. Any advice to get rid of them ? :D

Mash It Down by Antonio Elizio 2015-09-05T06:00:00

Wonderful graphics ! The ball physics seems totally random so each game can be either ridiculously easy or almost impossible. I would have loved a 2 players version, each person controlling one monster. Except that, it's a good entry and it was fun to play.

Investigation of the Empty House by TrashLord 2015-08-29T10:14:00

I'm not sure if I missed the point of the game so it's very hard for me to rate it now. I'm wondering why I can move around if it can simply click on everything from anywhere. Is the goal to find every interactive object and click on all of them ? Maybe if you could had some context and explanations in the description it would be great. The game looks interesting so it's even more frustrating ;) I really don't want to rate your game wrongly so I'll do that after I figured it out. Thank you :)

Loki In the 27 th and a 1 / 2 Century by liquidmedia 2015-09-05T10:09:00

It's not very clear what to do there, but the environment is huge and fun to explore. Congratulations !

Sparks 'N The Knight by UncleChris 2015-08-30T12:22:00

Good surprise to have a bit of 2D physics near the end ;)

Lich Rising by juxipolo 2015-08-30T12:47:00

Sweet ! A RTS game !

Very complete mechanics for this type of game in such a short time. I like the "resources" management system.

May the Dark One rise in peace.

Shark Swimulator by Karai17 2015-08-29T08:40:00

I saw you announcing the theme of your game on the IRC chan and I was laughing my ass off. Since then I really wanted to try your game. Now it's done and it is really funny. Controls are a big confusing at first but after getting used to it it's just great. Well polished, with good graphics and good music. Plus there are many languages supported. Awesome !

Vampig Rampage by wischutz 2015-08-30T12:27:00

I can't wait for the update ;)

Web version gives me an XML error :
<Error><Code>MissingKey</Code><Message>Missing Key-Pair-Id query parameter or cookie value</Message></Error>

So I tried my luck on the stand alone version, but as you already know you only provided the .exe file without the data folder, so it won't run.

Vampig Rampage by wischutz 2015-08-31T15:22:00

Thanks your update on the windows build :) And thanks for your message to tell me about it.

Fun game to play !

Detritus by d3garcia 2015-09-04T17:56:00

I think it would have been easier and maybe a bit more natural to be able to click and drag anywhere on the screen. It would have made possible to quickly escape some dangerous situation. Also I was a little disappointed by the absence of physics. It would have been awesome to lob over the pink guys. Maybe there are too many of them as well.

But I love the idea and the game is fun to play, even if it's really hard. Well done !

Dr.Particulus: monster within by goodbadokay 2015-09-04T18:32:00

Because the power ups are random, and because I was VERY unlucky in my first runs, I ended up being very clueless about what I was supposed to do in this game, pressing every possible button to try to find some attack move XD

After I got the first power up that allowed me to attack, everything became more clear. The game is actually really fun.

So I tried the Windows version, but I don't know how to start the game. I'm stuck on the first title screen. I have been pressing all keys, trying to click on lots of stuff, or waiting in case it was loading something in the background. I can't wait to play this game. Please help ^_^

Undercowver by PixelStuff 2015-08-26T08:22:00

I see ! So that's where the Start button i can see on the screenshot is supposed to be ;) Thanks for the tip.

Undercowver by PixelStuff 2015-08-26T08:59:00

Ok, so same goes with the game over screen, but with the screenshots i know where to click now ;)

The entire atmosphere of the game is just awesome.

I am Malware by Finn 2015-08-30T14:03:00

I played the tutorial, and I got stuck there. Simply trying to follow instructions but it's actually impossible to go back to the starting point there. So I had to quit the tutorial and I tried the first level, which I couldn't complete because I had no idea how to use the trojan or that I could use the virus to kill the guards. Thinking I missed something in the tutorial, I went back there. And this time, only by luck, I managed to move to the next part by actually not following the instructions. I ended up facing the same issue there where the exit is actually at the opposite corner of the starting point. So after acknowledging that "exit is at starting point, except in tutorial", a few levels later the rule changed. This is creating a lot of confusion. As people mentioned before, just adding an exit sign would have solved that very easily.

I also didn't really like the "try your luck with the worm", not knowing where any of the vents would lead me to. This is forcing us to play and replay levels until we memorize each connection. It seems very unfair, even for a malware ;)

Except that, I actually like this game. It's fun to sneak around using different abilities. The music is really good and matches the atmosphere of the game perfectly.

Sudden Peace by PizzaPortal 2015-08-27T10:12:00

The monster is cute and i love his roar. Interesting concept but i get the feeling that the game becomes easier and easier. I was expecting at first that any village getting destroyed would give me a game over. But with more of them at every wave, it kind of gets so easy that it's not really challenging. I still have no idea how my little blue friend are trying to help me, but they are fun too ;)

Splat by thegdr 2015-08-25T10:54:00

Cool interpretation of Sokoban on the Ludum Dare 33 theme. First time I play a Sokoban type game with such a grin, from the evil joy of seeing these idiots falling and hear the Splat sound they make when hitting the ground. My brain is gone for now so i'm stuck at level 10, but I'll come back later for sure to try to complete the game. Good job !

Maiden Voyage by ProgrammerSteve 2015-08-26T11:17:00

Hehe, I love how the maidens are captured.

Don't SPROUTCH me! by Arche-san 2015-08-26T12:47:00

HAHA, I love the title and the little "no no no no no no" sound. I was fun to complete the game. Interesting and innovative concept. I also love the idea of not wanting to be a monster and trying to not hurt people.

The Old One by Chris Olsen 2015-08-31T10:25:00

Wonderful art and music. Gameplay really makes me feel like and old and tired giant. Very good game !

Massacre Monday by wg_phancock 2015-08-26T11:27:00

Damn ! You made me cry laughing at the end of the game. XD
I found it already pretty funny to display name of the people being killed, but the end really made it XD

I made a very similar game, actually. But I like very much how you executed yours. I like the feeling of this good old 90's arcade games ;) And the fact it gets crazier and crazier. Is there a way to kill tanks and helicopters ? I just died tried to smash these too hard :D

They're Escaping! by DR_Humbus 2015-08-25T08:58:00

Unfortunately the data folder is missing. I hope you can fix that soon so we can try the game ^_^

I am Death and Fire by derr 2015-08-26T11:11:00

Very good game. The flying engine is very pleasant to use. And it goes with nice graphics and good music !

Omnom Children by shelleyl 2015-08-27T10:45:00

Cute graphics ;)

Utterly not by uthamon 2015-08-27T10:25:00

I really thought this was a troll game at first because of how ridiculously impossible everything is. But actually no.

AKUMO by julian95 2015-08-29T09:57:00

Nice art style, but unfortunately I keep randomly falling through the ground so I cannot play that much. I didn't manage to play more than a dozen of seconds because of that, and most of the time I just fall through right when the game starts. Dodging the enemies seems very random because there is not much space on the right of the screen to see them coming.

AKUMO by julian95 2015-08-29T09:58:00

Monster Run by TicZo 2015-08-28T19:03:00

Can you provide a zip package ? Clicking on a folder browses it, and it is insane to download each file one by one and recreate the folder hierarchy. I tried to right click on the folder but it doesn't give me any option.

How come you guys managed to play this game ? I'd love to try it.

Monster Run by TicZo 2015-08-29T08:25:00

Thank you very much for providing a zip file. I was able to play your game. I like the art style. The main mechanic is all about jumping and I would have love to have more control over the jump, maybe a short press for a short jump, and a long press for a longer one. For some reason I had a lot of trouble to pass the first level. But once it was done nothing could stop me :D Good work.

Heartbeast by foreverisbetter 2015-08-29T10:56:00

Very good memory game ;) I like the art and mostly how the monster transforms as we loose hearts.

Monster Revolt by AndreSilvs 2015-08-29T08:47:00

I agree with others that I would have loved that picking meat gives HP back (but there are checkpoints and infinite number of lives so I can go without it) and that heroes try to pick items they reveal by hitting blocks. If you really want to push your concept further, I think that the monster should be starting at the far right of the level, with the objective being at the left side. Heroes are the ones usually moving from left to right ;) It would have helped a lot to feel like a platform game monster.

Except that, the game is pretty fun to play. You have a good concept. I like the graphics and the audio. Well done.

Feed the Monsters by dennerbougo 2015-08-29T09:34:00

Sadly, a bit troublesome to play. Why don't you directly host your files so it can be just ran instead of downloading 2 files manually. Except that it's a fun game to play. I like the art and the general idea. Might be better with some sound.

Just RAAWR it ! by Strike 2015-08-26T11:54:00

McFood : thanks for the comments. I added a little bit of humor just for the overall fun of the game. But i considered it wasn't enough and that the game wasn't build around this concept to enter in this category. Same goes for graphics ;)

Just RAAWR it ! by Strike 2015-08-26T15:47:00

derr : if I'm not wrong, I believe that you can set your controls in the input tab of the configuration window before the game starts. I haven't try to remap to a joystick so that's why I'm not very sure about it.

Just RAAWR it ! by Strike 2015-09-27T05:21:00

Thank you very much everybody for your comments and ratings. Now it's time to work on a more polished version of this game while waiting for the next Ludum Dare ;)

Evil Papagalli by folex70 2015-09-05T10:22:00

I totally agree with MrKOHCEPBAHT
That's a good attemps that could make a good game once all these details are improved. Congrats !

Kidnapped by Zsombor 2015-08-25T08:45:00

Shina69 : Same as you. But after inspecting the page source code, it mostly contains an iframe where the game is supposed to be. So here is the direct link to the page in this iframe. Games seems to run from there : http://apps.gamebased.training/fileservice/advEngine/holder.offline.html?project=monster

Nice graphics

Nightmare on "The Cookies" street by BarrelGames 2015-08-27T07:35:00

Original concept, nice graphics, groovy music !
I kept trying and trying but never managed to win. Looks like i must kill these 4 generals, but they keep running into a house and disappear there. There might be something in the gameplay that i missed XD I must try again !

Tentacle Rescue : Summer of Love by Casper 2015-08-31T11:16:00

HAHA, Awesome concept XD
Seems like there is some way to never loose by tearing apart each piece of cloth except one, and after that just ignoring the star fish on this last part. Once it's done it's all about removing the star fish all the way we want. Maybe you could have added some penalty if a starfish bites where there is no clothes ?

Fun game anyway ;)

Rise of the Biggest Monster by TheMiggo 2015-08-25T10:22:00

I totally don't get the controls at all, but the idea is fun and the graphics are nice.

KITTEN KILLER! by Cryptix 2015-08-27T11:11:00

Haaaaa, I saw your progress on the IRC chan and i can finally play the final version of your game ;)
It lacks some challenge but it is still fun, just for the pleasure of killing innocent cats :D

Strider by CiderPunk 2015-09-06T14:33:00

Even if it's pretty pointless because the game is not complete, it is so fun to feel so powerful and slaughter all these innocent people. Wait, did I just say that ? XD

I really wish you can finish this game one day.

Grimzilla by tomhunt 2015-09-06T14:40:00

Hey, we have a similar concept ! ;)
I really like the 3d models and animations. Good job on this one. I also like the randomly generated levels, great idea !
The only minor complain is that the hit box of the attacks is actually way shorter than what the 3D model makes us think.

Really good job on this game.

The abandoned bewitched mansion by strong99 2015-09-04T18:21:00

I confirm, instructions are wrong, not WASD to move but arrow keys. I'm not really sure of what I am supposed to do in this game. I keep loosing without knowing why. Quite hard to rate in this condition.

Double Kick Heroes by blackmagic 2016-01-04T22:58:00

Unfortunately the game is not in sync with the music on my computer, but I can see that this is really a great game. Everything is made perfectly. Wonderful !

CyberMayan by dx0ne 2015-12-23T11:18:00

Pacman revisited with puzzle element, god concept. I believed
I had to collect all files in order to complete the level and that's why I kept failing on the last level. I almost gave up, but before doing so, I tried to see what happens if I reach the end without collecting everything, and that's how the game ended. After so much effort, it was pretty disapointing and I really wanted to play more. You had a lot of potential to build way more levels but I believe you ran out of time, since it is quite a challenge to build interesting puzzles. Very strong graphical identity. It was very pleasant to play. Good work !

Pete and the Beanstalk by SeriousCreeper 2015-12-16T18:03:00

I'd really like to know how you make the bean sprout grow effect with unity, it looks amazing. Very good job.

WONKS by moltanem2000 2015-12-15T08:53:00

I kept seeing your progress on the irc chan and I was very curious to try your game. Now it's done ! Wonderful work on the audio. I love how natural the controls feel, event if a little explanation on them would have be nice. Not sure what to do once I'm stuck in the room because i must sleep. After trying to hit every key looks like R allows me to exit this state, but it looks like more that it entirely restarts the level. Maybe if you can explain a bit, I'd like to play your game more ;)

RITUAL by RGB Games 2015-12-17T14:48:00

Great atmosphere

Resonance by Starspell 2015-12-28T19:30:00

Very good puzzle game. I really love how every level is a room and how they are all connected together. I would have prefered to see how many of each piece were available to solve each room, but that's really minor.

Wonky Ship by Slashee the Cow 2015-12-15T09:07:00

Interesting way of exploiting the themes and play around the 2 buttons constrain to still be able to move and shoot in any direction.

Tokyo Wars by Valandre 2015-12-18T14:13:00

Excellent travail les gars ;)
5 stars all the way !

Parse The Sky by dustyroom 2015-12-15T08:16:00

Very good mood and art style. It takes time to understand the controls and get used to them, but once done it's a pure pleasure to fly around. Sometimes the plane doesn't seem to respond anymore, i manage to escape this situation by holding for very long one of the key. Not sure if I'm hitting the limits of the levels or if there is anything else happening there. No big deal anyway, very enjoyable game.

Slum Runner by Warboys 2015-12-23T16:11:00

Very good game.

8 Questions by keanerie 2015-12-15T08:23:00

No idea what I was doing until the end of the game. So that's what these bars mean. I see. It means i have to play that again now i know that. Good interpretation of the themes.

Boxing Quest by flukeshot 2015-12-17T14:00:00

I really like how you managed to have so many moves simply with 2 buttons and to make it feel very natural and smooth to play.

Scat Attack by patvanmackelberg 2016-01-04T23:14:00

Good idea to made it up to 4 players in co-op !

Slash to Victory by Juin 2015-12-18T14:33:00

I am really sorry to admit that my first reaction was to laugh at yout title screen, only to discover a very rich game with very strong mecanics. The platforming controls are very good and reactive. The RPG elements make the game even more interesting. And on top of that you have proceduraly generated level. A really good game. Good job.

Endless runner with very unresponsive jump. That's sad.

Mon Démon et Moi by Spyboy 2015-12-18T14:54:00

Thank you everybody for playing and rating my game. Thanks a lot for all your comments. See you at the next Ludum Dare !

Spinning Around by DinnerInTheDark 2016-01-04T23:34:00

One of my favourite LD34 games. I really love the atmosphere of the game. Maybe the floor switches need a little improvement but except that, everything is perfect. Very clever way to go around the 2 themes together, mostly the growing part ;) Very good job.

Island Defence by Epicruins195 2015-12-15T08:03:00

push your button then punch by 525 2015-12-18T15:09:00

Sadly I'm alone playing this game. But I can see very high potential to play it with a friend. For sure a fun multiplayer game.

Punch Beat by AboLD 2015-12-17T13:10:00

Very beautiful game. I see a lot of potential there but i didn't get at all the "beat" feeling suggested by the title. It doesn't seem like the robots pattern follow any kind of rythm given by the music. Or maybe I missed something there. Very good job anyway :)

Grow Your Defense by gebirgsbaerbel 2015-12-23T15:40:00

Good interpretation of the theme. At first the game seems too hard until I understood the growing system. Except that I never managed to mix shapes and colors properly. Building 2 of the same tower in an area is enough to fill the entire surface and win. Good try on the tutrial but in the end the whole thing was very confusing.

Belly Smash by Drunkain 2015-12-15T09:00:00

Really fun and funny game, cannot help keep laughing at this. What voice is that for the referee ? XD I love to see the public being crushed by these giants rolling sumos.

FloppySnake by zguerrero 2015-12-24T14:40:00

Basic gameplay but solid enough. Very good graphics. Maybe it would be more challenging if the difficulty increased with time.

Personal Growth by Maniac 2015-12-17T19:00:00

I love the dark humor there

Bryan by LikeAstudio 2015-12-28T19:17:00

It looks like you hard coded inputs instead of using Unity input system. Therefore in cannot rebind keys using the configuration window at start. On an azerty keyboard it's not possible to play properly and I am not going to install qwerty support just for this game. Too bad, it looked quite good and promising.

Solar Fly Trap by TreePunchers 2015-12-15T08:30:00

Haha, very funny game. Nice to play.

Awesome work on the procedural graphics.

Shapeless Dungeon by caporaltito 2016-04-19T10:49:00

Very good game. Just some very small complains ;) First of all, I just wanted to try what happen if I die, and I just went directly to the beginning of the game, including the tutorial. For this kind of game I'd just prefer to simply restart the current level on death. Also, it looks like you put many sprites on the same tiles and Unity is having issue with Z fighting and cannot decide which one to draw on top. At first I thought it was made on purpose as the dungeon is supposed to move according to the game title. So I thought it was a cool effect and I was expecting walls to be alive and move on their own haha

The Ship-Shape Shift by greysphere 2016-04-22T09:08:00

As people said, it's a bit slow, but the puzzles are fun.

Mike Rand in Fantasy Land by BrainSlugs83 2016-04-22T07:44:00

Good entry with some nice humour in it. Sadly there is no sound at all and art style is inconsistent, but I totally understand since you made this game alone. I wish you can continue working on this game after the Ludum Dare is over so we can play it longer :)

Limber by Wefiends 2016-04-25T08:29:00

Take 5 stars everywhere !
Wonderful game.

I always had trouble in the beginning because it was easy to accidentally shift my hand on the keyboard by mistake and get hit 3 times in a row because of that. So I decided to play with 2 hands. And here I am at the top of the high scores ;) (at least for now :D)

I just think that the X move (on the S key) should have been Q + Z + E + C, but now I'm wondering if all keyboard can support all these keys pressed together XD Anyway, that's also removing the only difficulty for people playing with 2 hands. So maybe it's better to keep it that way.

Block 1 by crazyrems 2016-04-25T07:39:00

So much personality into just a simple cube. I got stuck in front of the end of the second level. Looks like it's possible to reach there without bringing some other object to press the 2 switches. I believe it's something you have fixed in the postcompo build. Very good game !

Lumiania by Yword 2016-05-01T05:25:00

Avery polished and cute metroid ;)

Shifty Funky Walls by Satyre 2016-05-06T11:10:00

glEscape() by abcdef65g 2016-04-22T05:43:00

It seems very messy at first, trying to figure out what's the purpose of each form. After this painful part is passed, the game starts to get fun.

BodyGuardian by Citsua 2016-04-19T11:17:00

Really fun game ! Good job !
I don't have any sound, is it normal ?

Prince Charmless by Pietro Ferrantelli 2016-04-27T07:41:00

The platforming part has some Super Meat Boy feeling, which is actually a very good thing. This entire game is just perfect ! Good job !

EbaTank by plaguespark 2016-04-21T02:54:00

The game is very nice, sadly too short. I wish I could play longer ;)

To all the people having issues with aiming and shooting, it looks like you didn't see the game description : "Your mecha unit was damaged and you have no control over his transformation"
That's the whole point of the game, the robot changes the aiming by itself and you have to adapt your positioning accordingly.

Why is this game tagged as inappropriate for young audience ? XD

anthropomorphic suspect by dunin 2016-04-20T07:07:00

Very good game. As people mentioned, sometimes we guess the correct solution but must create random combinations to clear the board while praying to get the right parts before running out of tries. Except that random part, I really love the game.

CHORUS by Pantelis Petsopoulos 2016-04-26T09:26:00

I wish there was 2 keys to cycle shapes back and forth. Except that it's a very good game.

Blob Tales by RaysAndLazors 2016-05-03T18:23:00

Great idea to have a Lemmings game for this theme. Graphics are excellent but sadly I don't hear any sound.

Under and Above by Xinelu 2016-05-06T10:52:00

I'm a bit confused by the game mechanics. Not sure if I should actually shoot since it doesn't dot anything good : I lose HP and I cannot eat killed enemies. So it looks like the best I just to randomly roam around and eat stuff. But I see a lot of potential in this entry, the game is already fun and just needs a bit of extra work to be super good.

Speed Rally by sikosis 2016-04-25T10:56:00

Nice entry. I like your city, it was fun to explore it to get familiar with it so it was easy to get the objectives. I would have loved to have proper driving controls instead. Also I don't really get why I can bang into any building, but only rocks on the street would damage me.

Wizard of Shapes by puppetmaster 2016-04-24T05:23:00

I would have love to be able to aim at 360° instead of being locked into 4 direction. At least that what seems natural with mouse aiming. Except that, very fun game to play. I especially love how if you shoot yourself by mistake you'll change appearance. Good job guys.

SHAPE☆SHIFT by KaiClavier 2016-04-19T07:31:00

It just need a bit of tuning on the controls and the game is great. I enjoyed the "ghost trick"-like concept in a platform game to solve puzzles. Even if I just got stuck after the huge brick wall with a enemy beside (the one on the second screenshot).

Land of the Dead by Mathieu Muller 2016-04-25T11:00:00

The first game, I had totally no idea of what I was doing. But once you get it, you can't stop it. I got 884 points in easy mode. Time to try harder modes now :)
Excellent game. Good way of playing with the theme.

Sir Cumference by futom 2016-04-20T08:31:00

Haha, very funny concept. You managed to get around the theme quite well.

BeatBox by sausagroll 2016-04-24T10:28:00

Surely a very good base for a music rhythm game.

Ludo's Shifty Adventrue by LordKawaii 2016-04-19T06:56:00

I'm quite sad that despite mashing my keys like crazy I could never reach the top of this cliff. What's behind ? I want to know. Good exploration game.

Perception by Romixal 2016-04-19T07:09:00

I really love the core mechanic and how clever it goes with the theme. Really good job.

StealthShifter by PixelRetro 2016-04-25T11:05:00

That's actually a good game. It would have been good to make the input not case sensitive, but that's a detail.

Reconfigure by wg_phancock 2016-04-19T09:22:00

Really good attention to details ;) I especially like how space ships break apart piece by piece and how all of these parts float around the level

Shapeful World by Jigosystems 2016-04-24T04:33:00

Now I'm just crying hoping that there was a complete game with this art. This look too gorgeous to be left like this. Anyway, I really salute your effort. Also, the music is off by default and if I never went to the options out of curiosity I would have missed on the nice music. You should have competed in the humour category just for the absurdity of the big red buttons. You could have got some stars there ;) I just found the sensitivity of the camera a bit too high. But that one is probably hell to adjust as everybody have a different mouse and settings.

Shpaceshifpt by crucknuk 2016-04-22T08:48:00

Phis is quitfe a good fgame. :D
Controls are very hard to learn, that's true. But after I realised you project a white "shadow" of the space shift onto the walls it made everything better. Very well polished. Good job !

Space Shifter by superjai 2016-04-20T08:00:00

Even if it seems too easy, it's a fun game. I really like the music.

JaJa's Bizarre Transformer by reckhou 2016-04-21T10:56:00

I agree with everybody, this game is awesome. Just some minor comments here. I would have loved to have an aiming pointer graphics in game instead on relying on my system mouse cursor. At first I didn't register it as part of the game. I think this is mostly because I have the feeling that we are not free to aim at any part of the screen. So the mouse position and aiming seems disconnected most of the time and added lots of confusion to me. Same as the character not being able to move anywhere on the screen, but this one is not a big deal at all. Thanks a lot for having infinite continues ;)

DroneWatch by zzapp 2016-04-19T09:14:00

Good concept. Maybe it would have been easier to play if the camera was locked on the drone, but that's something really minor.

Skate Shifter by Chaoslab 2016-04-25T03:39:00

The Alchemist Oblivion by nlbi21 2016-04-22T04:39:00

Ooops, I killed my little alchemist with fire XD
It's a bit funny to always switch between direction keys and arrow, but I like the concept and the control of 2 characters. Actually I think that could be a wonderful co-op game, it would made the control way simpler and the game more enjoyable. I'll try it with a friend.

I am not really sure about what element is best to use in each scenario. Probably something to inform the player about.

This game is really good, especially the music. The flashing effect makes me sick but looks very cool.

WaLeFi by Strike 2016-04-22T06:22:00

Looks like I mapped the gamepad controls wrongly. You can download the stand alone version and remap them in the options window before the game starts. This will also solve your full screen issue. Could you tell me what's your screen resolution ? Thanks for your feedback.

WaLeFi by Strike 2016-04-22T07:03:00

I made a very minor update to invert gamepad Y axis thanks to BrainSlugs83's review.

WaLeFi by Strike 2016-04-22T08:29:00

Thanks for playing. I planned a survival mode at first which would have been endless and random with increasing difficulty, but sadly I didn't have enough time to implement it.

WaLeFi by Strike 2016-04-22T16:06:00

Heeeeeeeeey Akaboham ! ;)

Thanks for playing my game. Let me answer you.

1. That's the case, the hp for first enemies is 1 according that you don't hit them with a weak element first. You can only heal them up to max 3 hp.
2a. Right now the enemies flash yellow if you heal them, or red if you hurt them. Maybe it's not obvious enough.
2b. That's a good idea !

Thanks for your feedback. :)

Two Sides Of A Coin by ANTZtakeover 2016-04-30T05:26:00

So first, I have no idea how to download a folder from Google Drive. It looks like I can browse everything but can only download files. So there was no way I'd go get every file in the windows build and recreate the hierarchy on my computer. I have to go for the web build because it's only 2 files to get. It would have been much better if you provided a zip file for each build. If there was not this web build, I would have gave up and never played your game.

About game itself, it's pretty good. Until you place all turrets and you can just let the game run forever.

The Kuraikoa by strong99 2016-04-22T04:19:00

Really good music, did you compose it ? It took me some time to get the mechanics, but as people mentioned before, once your understand the game is all about going to Shield to refill stamina, then turn to Viking to hit a few times, then repeat, it mostly becomes a waiting game. After this is discovered it makes the game a little bit boring and repetitive. I'm sure that if you can continue working on it you can easily balance the game and make it even better. Overall it's a pretty good game. Good job.

h3ss by wboqm 2016-04-21T11:05:00

I'm really sorry because I have no idea of what hyperbolic geometry is and I cannot understand at all what this game is about. I looks cool anyway so I would really love be understand what is going on there. Maybe a step by step tutorial would help a lot.

Exhuman by Arvydas 2016-04-26T08:32:00

Graphics are just wonderful.
Beginning of the game is very, very painful. I almost gave up because the melee animation is too slow and there is no strategy except running into enemies and dying again and again. The birds shooting lasers are simply impossible to kill at this stage. So it's just about hoping to find a hog before dying. Until we get enough scrap to finally open the first chest. Then the gameplay changes totally and I never used melee again. Except in the lab when I discovered that you probably have an issue in your mecanim controller. By holding the two buttons of the mouse, you can start shooting way faster. It looks like the animation keeps going very quickly back and forth between melee and range. Then the game became too easy so I could beat it.
I just wish that the melee was simply not here and the game started with a range weapon.

KTD by virgate 2016-04-24T10:21:00

I find this game so difficult. I cannot last more than a few seconds. There is surely something I am missing somewhere. But the fact that enemies come from any direction and my ship is stuck facing up makes it very frustrating. Except that, this game very well made.

I'm not sure where this game fits in theme. As mentioned by Brandann, what makes this type of game interesting is to have a really aware AI. Now I don't really get any challenge. But it's a good start. I encourage you to keep working on it. I'm sure this game will be great after you implement an AI.

So yes, the concept is hilarious, the art is wonderful and the game itself is unbelievable. Sadly for a "mario" game we all except perfect platform-type controls, which I understand is extremely hard to achieve, mostly in such a short time. You went full berzerk on everything else, and for that you have my respect. Congratulations !

Really funny game and well polished. Art reminded me of Game & Watch. Really nice to play and challenging. It's a really solid entry. Congratulations.

@chriiis88 : Thanks for your feedback. About your first remark, that's actually already the case. Just keep holding the button ;) Some enemies will drop a "F" power up for faster shooting.

TOS Legends by Strike 2016-08-31T10:21:00

@Lonely Vertex : Thanks for your feedback. I added Power up information in the description after reading your comment as it wasn't clear.

There is another weapon in the level that you have to find ;)

I also used this opportunity to add that the shoot button can be hold for auto fire.

TOS Legends by Strike 2016-09-01T14:09:00

@smiley That would have been a wonderful easter egg XD Thanks for suggestion, I think I'll add this in a next version just for the pleasure of dropping another bomb error screen :D

TOS Legends by Strike 2016-09-02T11:09:00

@Ebriosus : thanks for this very detailed feedback. You are right, I'm a programmer and making levels and art during LDs is always where I waste a lot of time. So I generally focus on building something which is at least playable first, and if I manage to have extra time (which I generally and sadly don't), I try to improve the level design. I really regret this game is so short too. I had planned way more than what's here. And that's why I'm going to work on it soon to release a longer version. The Windows 1/2 interface as you call it is actually a disguised main menu. I understand the trash is not a very intuitive "Quit" button. This is actually the Graphic Environment Manager (or GEM) for the TOS (as in the title of the game) which is the operating system of Atari ST computers. ;)

TOS Legends by Strike 2016-09-02T11:16:00

@kawzar : Thanks for your comment. No woman was harmed in the making of this game ;) That's a double reference to Turrican first boss and the introduction of Toki where his girlfriend get kidnapped.

I really really like the music. It's a really great piece.

About the game itself, it might seem simple but still offers a good challenge. Maybe I would have preferred less inertia on the movements, but I totally understand this is intended as it is what makes this game special and interesting.

Congratulations to all of you.

Water Pig's Equation by Diz Three 2016-08-31T10:38:00

It feels more like a school exercise than a game. Not much fun there but it could be quite good as an educational software.

Temple Guy by wr4th88 2016-09-09T05:46:00

Finding the key was the most difficult task in order to complete this game which is pretty well made. The long broken ladder killed me once ! Only minor things to fix here. The climb animation on ladders doesn't trigger properly all the time. And some torches are displayed on top of the character. See screenshot here : http://imgur.com/Om9OvUZ
It seems like your camera has some Lerp on its position, it exposes that your game is at 2 places at a time when switching between time. There is a very long but fast scrolling.

Except these few minor things to improve, it was really fun to explore this level in two different times to progress al the way to the end. I have read in the comments that you plan to keep working on the game. If you do so please tag me in one of your message so I can play your extended version. :)

Delicious Bears by henriquebach 2016-09-01T15:09:00

I really really like the art style and the animations. Well done. The game is fun as well. Game mechanics are easy to understand and work pretty well. But it seems a bit repetitive, even if you managed to add different types of enemies with a very specific purpose for each of them. It's easy to win without losing any meat. So I'm wondering if you have any idea for more enemies that would make the game even better. That's a very good job you did here. Congratulations to the two of you.

I would have love to try your game. Screenshots look really cool. Sadly you didn't get any feedback so far and it seems like you put a lot of effort into this game. So I thought it would be good to comment. Unfortunately, the embedded version here gives this error :

404 Not Found https://storage.googleapis.com/itchio/upload2/game/82590/267338

The "Windows" link brings to itch.io where there is only a link to the OS/X build. And even there, the web version as an error (which might explain the issue here) "The author of this game has uploaded an invalid file and the game is currently unavailable."

To get web games to run on itch.io you have to make a zip file of a folder containing your game, and this folder must contain an index.html file. Make sure you game works on itch.io first.

From there to embed into the ludum dare website, itch.io provides a link that you just have to paste in your entry page. On your itch.io Dashboard page, you can click Edit on your game, then go to the Distribute tab. From this page, click on "Embed game" and you'll directly get the link to paste here.

Time Travel Selfies by Risin' Goat 2016-09-07T11:37:00

Thanks a lot, now I managed to play your game.

First of all, I really like the concept. That's a super funny stealth game. And you actually put the real photos into a fake facebook page with very cool comments there. That's impressive.

Sadly I believe this kind of game is really not made for WebGL. I have been enjoying myself playing a few games to try to get the best selfies ever, and I ended up have this error :
Out of memory. If you are the developer of this content, try allocating more memory to your WebGL build in the WebGL player settings

I believe this wouldn't have happened in a stand alone build. Probably the previous pictures taken are not removed from the memory.

I also find it a little bit sad that I cannot move forward and turn at the same time. But this is a really minor thing. Now I just wish the game was longer and offering more eras to explore.

Good job !

Artifact by BinaryProvider 2016-08-30T10:46:00

I really like the idea of dealing with time management. It's all about quickly deciding if that pile of gold away from the direct path is worth being taken or not. Basic concept but it's really fun and very well executed.

About the controls, I don't really know why using wasd. Not everybody uses a qwerty keyboard and it's pretty tricky to play the game. In my case I had to change my keyboard layout to be able to play it which is a little troublesome.

Music and graphics are really nice. I wish the game was a little longer.

Glutenburg by Ebriosus 2016-09-01T06:05:00

At first, I felt there was too many explanations during the tutorial part. I couldn't understand anything I was reading because I had no idea what the game was about and I couldn't make any connection. Then I played my first game, and the first challenge was to understand at which position I was supposed to stand to interact with the different things. Then I went back to read the description to get a better understanding of how to play. I was under the impression that I could lose by not providing the right amount of ink or plates. It's because this game reminded me at first of all these games where you have to prepare sandwiches and you have to make sure you put the right ingredients or cook them for the right duration. Then I realised I only had to camp at the bottom left to farm ink, go to the pie when the belly is near to empty. Repeat 3 times until I have lots of ink. Go to the Type O'Matic to smash the space bar as fast as possible to produce as many plates as possible. Go to the press and voila ! In the end, the requirement for the print seem pretty useless.

I felt a bit disappointed because that seems a bit boring. But I can see you put a lot of effort into this game. Art style is really great, I like the background music, you used the theme really well and tried to make something original. I might have totally misunderstood your intention and the way to play the game. If it's the case please tell me, I'd be happy to pay your game again. You have done a great job after all.

Carnage Simulator 9000 by sdfgeoff 2016-08-30T10:38:00

This game is awesome. If only there were sound, it would really add a lot to the carnage feeling. I'd like to hear explosions and screams ;)

Sometimes there is a little 1 pixel gap between your tiles, but I believe this is mostly some minor rendering issue. No big deal.

I'm not really sure of where to go so I have been roaming randomly around. Hopefully I found a direction to the boss but I got totally gang raped there by an endless flood of enemies XD

Naumachia by BlueLlama 2016-08-31T06:00:00

It would be nice to add the zoom control in the description. I was totally clueless of what was happening at first. Even if I haven't figured out yet how to kill other soldiers (trying to always ends in my soldier dying), I really like the concept. This could be a simple but very fun party game for small LAN ;)

I stopped at the sweat shop, to be honest. Your implementation looks quite solid. It only needs a bit more icing to be even better.

Ufo Quest by Smiley 2016-09-01T11:38:00

This really reminded me of the games I played when I was a kid. Bonus nostalgia points ;) For some reason, just before the game starts, it makes my web browser not responding for a while. I thought it was about to crash but I guess there might be some heavy process at the back to generate the level. After that, the game runs very smoothly so it's not a big issue. It was really fun to explore. It seems quite difficult at first (mostly the phase with no weapon) but luckily you have been generous on the small monsters and their chance to drop hearts so it makes everything easier. As people mentioned, I agree that the last weapon was expected to be the strongest one but in the end it feels disappointing and it's better to stick to the spear. The last animation of the UFO flying away is quite fun to watch. This is a good game to play.

Time Grabber by MrMordem 2016-09-09T10:39:00

I tried both version. First one cannot start, I have the blue screen issue. Second version just says "press enter to start". Pressing enter directly goes to first level. I don't see the main menu screen like on your screenshots. I'm lacking the "how to" section mostly to fully understand the game. In the description you talk about 2 weapons but I don't know how to switch. I also didn't know what crates were supposed to look like and it took me lots of time to figure it out by luck. I can read that the goal is to find a mini boss and defeat him to get his card in order to open the door. I don't see any special enemy, and sometimes I can just go through the door and be lost out of the screen (Details at the end). Sometimes doing so still brings me into the next level but at a very random position. As you already now, 3rd level cannot be completed.

I believe the arrows shouldn't be going through walls. This makes the level a bit meaningless as it it possible to clear all enemies without really exploring. Also I'm not sure why my character entirely disappears for one frame every time I shoot. I thought at first that meant that I was taking damage from some enemy or trap, it made me very confused. I see some special floor tiles where lasers turn on when stepping on them. But sometimes some normal tiles right beside magically turn into a laser tile. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a hidden trap or a bug.

I can honestly see that you made a lot of efforts to build a very good game. Good graphics, good music, good concept, good level design. Unfortunately it feels very wasted because the basic mechanics of the game are really unstable.

You are also very active and fix issues based on the comments. This is really good. I wish I could play a robust version of this game. If you release a new version soon, please tag me in the comments so I can come back and play it again.

Here are the steps to get the door bug :
- in first level, go down to the second room
- move along the top wall to the right until you hit the wall
- press down right direction all the way until you cross the door
From there you can either slowly move back and forth to trigger the door from inside of it (then you spawn in the next level inside the wall) or from outside of it (then you are not visible on the next level) Once your are outside of level 2, immeditatly keep pressing up and left, and you'll go through the level 2 end level door. You can again trigger the door from the other side and start level 3 outside of the screen.

Retro Player by justinooncx 2016-09-01T14:26:00

That's a very polished game and I love the Game Boy aspect. Now I'm going to play the post jam version to get more immersed thanks to the 8-bit music ;) Very challenging gameplay and very refreshing. I never played something like that before. When reading the instructions it felt weird at first, but it works pretty well. It feels like managing 2 characters at the same time in a way, which is what makes it pretty interesting to play. I'm wondering if having gameboy-type controls would make it feel more like a retro game. I'm not sure if it would make it easier to play as well. Maybe something like d-pad to move the character, and d-pad while holding a button to move the cross hair.

My only regret is that is typically a scoring game, and I don't see any score. I was about to ask you what was your high score so there was some challenge there, some kind of goal. Or maybe a timer to compare how long people survive. Or maybe both :D This would add much more value to the game. I would play it a lot to try to by my own record (or other people's one ;) )

And thanks to keep working on your game. I'll follow this page to see if you release new versions. Now it's time to try v1.2 !

MistIslands by tmpxyz 2016-09-01T11:14:00

A really, really good game. So far the game I have played for the longest time of this Ludum Dare.

It actually seems like the best strategy is to keep grinding the first island until the AP goes over 20. Even the final boss has less than 10 which is quite easy to reach.

On my very first game, I did nonsense that lead me to death. On the second generation I went to the portal by curiosity and when I read that I "needed" spirit balls I actually decided to quit. This made me believe that it was a very, very long game. So after my work was done and I had more free time to play your game, I decided to be more careful. And actually I managed to go all the way to the end without dying.

I really enjoyed this board game rules, with the random events, cards, special tiles and fighting system. Even if there is some randomness, the player still feels in control as his decisions are really important. I never enjoyed so much kicking monkeys in the ass to get money, or make them work for me ! Ironically, hating monkeys is a very good thing since it increases max health. So I love hating monkeys as well XD

There is a very decent amount of content which makes the game very enjoyable and replayable. Maybe if there was a more difficult mode that would really make it a good challenge. Definitely a great game that you manage to make here. Congratulations.

Glitch by Mathieu Muller 2016-09-05T10:51:00

First, I'm going to say that I couldn't wait to play and ran the game without reading the instructions. Then I saw g12345 comments about not registering mouse clicks and I thought I had the same issue. Until I actually read the instructions and realised I was not supposed to click on the arrows but drag and drop them on the level. It looks a bit that I was in the same case as local minimum XD

Putting my stupidity aside, this is a really cool game. Very good mechanics, interesting puzzles. I'd love to see more levels, but I totally understand that part. In such a short time it's pretty hard to make a lot of content. Is there a way to reset a level ? I made one mistake before pressing play and I was forced to run the level to die so I could restart. Trying to drag the arrows out of the levels pans the view so there is not much I can do. The music is really nice. I wish your daughter is having fun with this game, because it is a really good one. Great job !

I was a bit slow to understand that I could actually press any direction as long as it was on the time marker to decide exactly where to move the robot. After this full retard phase passed, I really enjoyed the game. What a great mix of puzzle and rhythm. Really awesome. The whole game looks and sounds wonderful. That's a really good job done here.

Abandoned Planet by Remicy 2016-08-31T16:25:00

Really good game. The car puzzle was the last one to solve for me and it made me crazy, until I realise it was all in front of my eyes the whole time XD

Thanks for the hint about the passcode else it would have been impossible to complete.

Really good atmosphere. Simple but very nice art. Really challenging puzzle but not impossible (except probably for the one you mentioned in the comments, luckily)

If it's really the last time you use flash, at least I really hope it's not the last time you make games. Very good entry. Thanks for the game.

Ancient Invaders by Insality 2016-09-09T05:28:00

Very good game. Gameplay is original and solid. Art, animation and music are good too. I played it alone but I can see there it is for sure very fun to play with someone else. I found it pretty difficult to destroy the stones. Only after playing I read the comments to discover I was supposed to switch while firing XD

For some reason the embedded version on Ludum Dare website gives me : 404 Not Found https://storage.googleapis.com/itchio/upload2/game/82699/265399
But hopefully I could play it on itch.io

Really good music and art. Plus the gameplay is very original and offers a good challenge. I find it so funny that it's still possible to drag the dead body around. (I hope nobody takes that out of context XD) I actually prefer when there is no enemy has it makes it more like a puzzle game. It's already quite hard to move everything around and I need time to think because the hero goes way faster than everything else.

My High Score is 10.

Very good entry !

Evacuate by Eggplant 2016-09-07T11:03:00

This was actually a very exciting game to play. I managed to reach the end, but it was a zombie apocalypse scenario XD
The random movements makes it a bit hard. As well I'm not sure about the medics. Are they supposed to touch the other person to heal ? In the end I just took turns between almost full farming to get population back and full science to progress. Then moving to full warriors to clear the screen. Except at the end when my population decreased drastically and I was very near the goal so I tried to change my approach.

Sometimes it feels like a very passive game, but watching it is very enjoyable. And actually, once you can spot which guy belong to which house, you can fast switch his job. Let's say you see him farming and an enemy is approaching. Then it's time to quickly turn him into a warrior, and back to farmer once the monster is dead. And this is when I understood that it is actually a very fast paced game XD

Very good job. It was a really fun experience !

Flagellarium by PeYMaN 2016-08-31T06:22:00

Quite a fun game, really funny !
This is really the perfect kind of game to play on a phone or a table with a friend while waiting for a bus or in a train trip.
I'm still not sure about the strategy, my first game was a disaster, and my second game seemed very easy but just pressing asdasdasdasdasd forever. I need to play more to get it ;)
Very original interpretation of the theme.

Sassy Salesman Simulator by rodobodolfo 2016-09-07T12:03:00

Very well executed. It gave me the old Lucas Art feeling. I used to be a phone sales person myself and I can totally relate. By the way, that's a phone I sold first in that game. Looks like I haven't lost my skills XD

It seems very random to know what item might work for which customer. But trying out everything is really funny so I don't really mind.

Graphics and music are really good as well.

Just a minor bug that disappeared quickly : one of the customer got his face replaced by mine for a line or two, then it went back to normal. Screenshot here : http://imgur.com/7T57hnS

By the way, I'd love to see how Yahoo looks on this green-green computer screen :D

ORAC-LD by M@ 2016-09-07T11:27:00

Same as @xesenix here. Putting the plank on the bridge then using the hooks to grab the circles then falling in the middle breaks the game.

Except that, it's a really fun game. I like how the level randomly varies, offering a different solution each . But so far using the plank always work. I'm still not sure yet about the usage of the hooks and circles. On one of the screenshot I see three of them hanging. This looks like the right situation. I believe the RNG was not on my side ;)

The art is really nice. It has the Lego games vibe. It would have been excellent if the puzzle required a few steps to be completed. Looks like you have a good prototype here. Now I'm just sitting here wishing you make a way longer version, because I really enjoyed it. Good work !

Obsolete by adsilcott 2016-08-31T06:17:00

That's really awesome ! A bit of classic RPG for the fighting, a bit of Megaman for stealing abilities; but most of all, a bit of Monkey Island for the trash talking fighting technique ! \o/

Sadly it looks like there was a lot of work on the 3D part which could be entirely removed. I don't mind chaining fights one after another without the exploration phase. Except that it is really a very good game. Congratulations !

Grab & Defend by fragileannihilator 2016-08-31T05:12:00

I misunderstood completely the "tutorial" part that teaches you that wood log = fuel. So when on the next step you are introduced with both enemies and fireworks, I thought firework = weapon.

I have been dying 5 times not being able to do anything because the fireworks are totally useless against the first waves. It couldn't take it any more so I went to read comments hoping to find some clue about how to beat this game. Until I realise I was not supposed to use fireworks but logs on the enemies.

Once this painful part is passed, the game really becomes a good challenge where it's all about skills. It's really rewarding to manage to kill the very first enemy after to many tries. And it feels even better to beat the first wave. Now I want to keep playing it to see if I can reach the end.

Life Before Texting by sararyCow 2016-09-07T11:13:00

There is a lot of delay when pressing a key. And a lot or inertia when releasing it. That makes the game almost impossible to play. Despite that, I still managed to complete the game after (too) many tries so I could enjoy the nice graphics but mostly the funny story ;)

That's a very good idea you got there. Maybe if you can just improve the controls and that would make it perfect.

Archaeologist Simulator by Captain Awesome 2016-09-02T12:34:00

The description really makes it all XD So much humour.
To be honest, I have been wondering the whole time if the assets where made by you or taken on the Unity Assets Store. To be even more honest I went there to look for some temple package. First there are too many, second I cannot find anything that looks like yours without planning to spend hours, and finally I'd rather trust you on that part ;) If you made everything, please forgive my suspicion ;) This is actually a really cool game and I think you deserve way more comments.

Maybe as a minor suggestion, I'll advise you to make a good use of the Unity Input manager. It looks like you hard coded your inputs. So even if I change the key mapping in the config window before the game starts, it doesn't do anything. I am not using a qwerty layout keyboard so for most of the games on Ludum Dare I have to switch my keyboard layout. So I really appreciate it when it's possible to remap the controls to avoid me the trouble. Maybe something to consider for your next participation to Ludum Dare.

Archaeologist Simulator by Captain Awesome 2016-09-07T12:17:00

Good, it looks like you have learnt stuff on the way. That's the most important thing here. If you make any new version soon please update me so I can try it.

Pyramid Caveman Battle Arena by johanw123 2016-08-31T10:31:00

Nice, a multiplayer FPS. That's quite rare. Sadly I cannot join your server so there is not much to do, but it could be quite fun. Maybe you should post what UTC time you might be online so people can try join your server. Looks like there are some missing layer settings on your colliders in the corridors : the weapons can be thrown through the walls.

I had some fun climbing to the top of the pyramid and throwing rocks to see them roll all the way down. Bonus points for the VCR launcher :D

The Puzzling Pyramid by AlexLamarche 2016-09-05T11:05:00

While playing I felt what many people are suggesting here : the game is missing an indication about tiles placed properly or wrongly. But I also deeply believe that it might totally kill the difficulty and remove the challenge. So finally, I think it's better without. Even if it takes some time to check each tile one by one, I'm fine with it.

Very solid rules for a pretty interesting puzzle game. I like the idea and the execution.

Dino Lazer by Chaoslab 2016-09-09T10:59:00

Damn, this is really fast paced ! Hopefully there is a slow version where I can last more than 10 seconds XD

You mention : "Controls - Keyboard or Gamepad." but that would be nice just to write which keys I am supposed to press ;)

The game is very intense and the music quite relaxed, it doesn't seem to match. But it is still a very good song which I like very much. It would be even more epic with some sounds.

Hilarious game, well executed, really good challenge (and thanks for the slow version). Now it's time to practice and beat records ! Thanks for this excellent game.

Mammoth for Speed by Lonely Vertex 2016-08-30T10:27:00

I really love the concept, it's so damn funny.

The controls feel a bit strange at first, but I totally understand that this is not a car but a mammoth.

Collision detection is a bit buggy sometimes. Like it's possible to be stuck at a little corner with the game considering that we are still at full speed. So after turning around to go back on track the mammoth goes from static to full speed. Quite surprising at first.

Art and track design is pretty simple but very polished.

Even if I still don't really understand why sometimes I unlock parts or how to unlock next track, it makes me very happy to fine tune my mammoth to perfection and try to beat my own record.

Excellent game. Congratulations !

Key Adventure by g12345 2016-09-01T14:33:00

I tried the jam version. I understand the hitbox to cross bridges must fit perfectly, that makes sense in a way to mimic old games. But in that case I'm wondering if a tile based movement would make it even better. Old games used to be like that and it solves the hitbox issue ;) I really like the exploration in this game. It feels a bit like the very first Zelda game. Good job !

A New Start by TheTeaGuns 2016-08-31T05:53:00

It took me a while to understand that only trees with leaves can be chopped. After that it seems that I just have to wait at the fire for new residents to join. It feels nice to see this little town growing ;) A lot of potential in this demo. I wish you can keep working on it so we can have a complete version later. Good job !

Ancient Meat Lovers by FrozenCow 2016-08-30T10:57:00

The art style is so funny and cute, I couldn't stop laughing the whole time I was playing.

I was very confused about the hitboxes in the early game, as melee attack range is not really clear. I couldn't understand why I was damaging or being damaged. The game becomes much more understandable at the last upgrade once we unlock range weapon. Sadly, this is were the game becomes too easy as well and the challenge is gone. In the same time, the sensation of power it gives is awesome. Anyway that's how ancient (and modern) technology went ;)

I thought at first that I could carry only one meat. Then I got surprised that a giraffe dropped 2 and I could pick both. Maybe technology upgrade could also provide ways to carry more at once.

Sprite Warrior by monkeybit29 2016-09-01T05:39:00

I like the mix of 2D and 3D. As people said, the weapons might not make sense at first, but in terms of gameplay it makes the game really interesting. What's the point of not using weapon ?

Maybe you could make the game a bit longer and add a few more types of enemies to add some variety.

We Are Here To Help by Frederika and Patrick 2016-09-07T11:48:00

After 4 Ludum Dare, it's the first time I see a visual novel. Awesome !

It looks like you have a very decent engine here, plus the talent to write good stories. This one really works well, very good ending ;)

Da Vinci vs Ancient Creators by kawzar 2016-09-01T05:43:00

Art and concepts are very nice. Sadly there is no way to play again after a game over, except reloading the whole page. I believe there is too much inertia in the controls which makes it hard to play accurately. Dodging bullets in a shoot them up is crucial.

A game with great potential.

Thanks for the improvements, this is really better. The game is way more enjoyable to play now. I have been trying to beat my own record. Funnily, now I managed to find a safe spot in the top left corner, I just have to slightly move down to avoid the triple lasers, and slightly up to shoot the small ship. Now add a boss somewhere and it will be epic ;)

KoYo by blackoptics8 2016-09-02T11:58:00

Wow, this is such a difficult game. At first I had no idea of what to do. Hopefully there is a gif on itch.io so at least I could try to understand what I was supposed to do. I spent lots of time in the room where I can pick the yoyo just to train and It's really really hard. By the time I move to the next room, I know I'm already dead XD

So if I understand well, I am supposed to move the mouse in the direction of spikes to send my yoyo there, and when it touches the wall press jump ? It seems like there is an audio indication of when it's possible to jump if I'm correct.

Here is a gif of one of my tries. I almost manage to reach the first platform. I could only do that once, but I almost had no more life, and what comes next is even harder.

I really feel like that this is actually a super cool game. I like the idea, the art and mostly the music (the way it builds up, wow). I'm just frustrated by my poor reflexes.

I'm wondering if it would be easier to just keep holding the jump button while waving the yoyo around.

This game definitively deserves more attention and comments from the LD community. It's actually a pretty good entry. I still fell like trying to get better at it. I'll message you again if I manage to ;)

Soaring with the Ancients by xzippyzachx 2016-09-09T06:05:00

I'm really sorry but I cannot control the plane at all. I think mostly it's because it is way too sensitive. A little press on the controls and it starts turning very fast. About the mouse I'm ok with this type of controls, but I really need to see where my cursor is, because after a while I'm totally lost mostly when the plane starts spinning very fast. It seems like there is no collision (actually there is, after 3 plays I managed to hit the ground, but if you spin too fast you can get through it easily) and I believe I end up under the ground with only the skybox being visible.
Maybe you can have a look at how Strike Vector does it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmZhFPf3YBQ

I had to quit the game and restart it. This time I decided to not touch the mouse. Funnily using Q and E makes the plane drift.

I tried a third time. This time I had to really move my mouse by just a little millimetre to kind of be able to control the plane. This is really too sensitive. I manage to see one landmark, and I started spinning like crazy again near the second one. I'm wondering how you implemented your controls and hope it's not frame rate sensitive.

That's sad because I really like the atmosphere of the game, the art and sounds. It's just that the controls are really too sensitive. Thanks for making this game, I can see you did a lot of good work here and that's why I tried so hard and so many times. It just needs some minor adjustments and it would be really enjoyable.

This is damn epic ! \o/
Excellent job. Maybe the audio source from the tv would be better as a 3D sound to get stereo effect when moving around the room.
