LD24 — Evolution

Badass by Sos 2012-09-05T01:41:00

Hilarious game, although I get punished for things I don't quite understand, and the controls are basically one button (and occasionally a semi-useful jump). I don't know how NOT to get surrounded and jumping doesn't always help... still that just kinda contributes to the game's overall hectic feel and funny graphics/theme.

Evolution in HELL by shayl 2012-08-28T01:25:00

Great game for your first programming experience!

The graphics are pretty good. The controls seem a little slippery though, and the hitbox on the green-missile thing feels too big. Not too much going on in terms of innovative gameplay, but it's a solid game.

Eat or Die by yettatore 2012-09-05T00:05:00

Fun, frantic game! It seems like the game gets impossible to beat on the first try (since you don't know the correct path) after a while. Catchy tune.

Growth by spcmnspf 2012-09-05T01:39:00

Interesting concept. I don't have any idea what I'm doing, but it has great graphics and sound. The controls could use a little work (WASD works fine!) and it's satisfying to collect the little flowers after they grow. You should probably make it a little clearer what's going on... unless that's the point of the game and I'm just dumb.

Dam It by swinestudios 2012-09-05T02:17:00

Great graphics and sound! Nice controls too. I really don't know what I'm doing... Can I kill the fish? Why am I getting wood? Can I like, put up better defenses with the wood? I like how you can kill the birds. Nice touch.

Passive by Suffolk and Clever 2012-09-05T03:21:00

Interesting game, although it seems like you shoehorned in "evolution" at the last second ;D

Neat "motion blur" style graphics. Also, I beat the first 2 levels without realizing there was a "sprint" function. Not fun.

I like the subtle background audio-riffs.

life, undeath by zillix 2012-09-05T02:07:00

Great game! Might want to make it more obvious there's an apple on the far side of the map, or put another one in the middle? Not my favorite reason for dying.

1 and 2 to select weapons is not handy. Maybe use the mouse for that since it's not doing anything?

Resolute by RosyPenguin 2012-08-31T03:15:00

Great start to a game - the controls feel solid and the graphics have a nice lo-res appeal. Obviously needs some sort of puzzle/enemy but it's a fantastic foundation.

Human 2.0 by dengzo 2012-09-05T03:32:00

Great game! Very creepy, atmospheric, and has solid gameplay.

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Kubble by MemoryLeek 2015-12-19T23:08:00

Great puzzle game! It'd definitely be better to not have the first one require you to make that leap of faith, but after that all the puzzles were well-designed and interesting.

Also would be good to have a win screen instead of looping you back to the same level :P

Silt by sjl 2015-12-19T23:32:00

Innovative, interesting idea! This is probably my favorite interpretation of the 2-button theme.

It'd be nice to have some cool adjectives on the creatures, to see what traits they evolve. I was never able to figure out the mysterious artifacts, either...

Overall, interesting game!

Gabriel can grow. by grifdail 2015-12-15T08:53:00

Awesome game! The controls were really tight and the level design was incredible. Nicely done!

I loved the text for each level, and the whole thing is really well-designed and well-put together.

Rebel Dancer by Y.T. 2015-12-19T08:41:00

Great game! Really satisfying to smack down the enemies. I love the sprite animations and the music.

However, it kind of seems like the best strategy is to just button-mash... it's still very satisfying to dance enemies to death, but it'd be cool to see more mechanics introduced.

WALKER by piper82 2015-12-19T23:46:00

Great start! I loved the dialogue, and how the thug had different things to say based on what you're carrying. It would be awesome if you could move a little faster though (even if you are called "Walker," not "runner")

Giant tree battle by jackolondon 2015-12-15T08:00:00

Fun jam game! It took me a little bit to realize that it was a networked game, which is really cool.

My suggestion would be to make it a little more satisfying to press the button. Maybe have a little "+1" fly out of the button, and show your progress to each level.

Also I'm not entirely sure what Levels/Boosts do...

By the way, try unchecking "Development Build" in Unity's Build settings if you can, that will improve people's load times by a lot.

Simultaneism by Bogden 2015-12-19T07:22:00

Super fun game! great controls, fun concept.

Gets super hard by the 4th game.

Balloon Adventure by Boltz Interactive 2015-12-15T09:14:00

Good game!

The graphics and music are awesome, and I love the little quips the balloon makes! Interesting mechanic as well, although I did spend most of my time shrunk to the smallest.

It took me an embarassingly long time to realize some clouds weren't in the background.. but that's kind of my fault.

RitualCraft by Squid Blink Games 2015-12-15T18:15:00

Fun concept! The core loop of gathering materials and finding what I could craft was really satisfying.

Unfortunately, it occasionally gets stuck on the "stuff found" modal popup, and makes me unable to continue :(

It seemed to happen when I was getting stuff from the Forest.

Polytree by SiegeLord 2015-12-19T08:27:00

Fun game! It's satisfying to launch yourself off ramps and get big air while avoiding all the obstacles.

Your character does feel "slippery," though, and sort of sluggish - it would be a lot easier to play if it had tighter controls.

Still, fun entry overall!

Deflext by Adam Gould 2015-12-19T23:25:00

Fun game! It gets pretty unreasonably hard after level 6 though, (the dark wizard SUCKS) but it's still a fun challenge.

Billy's Big Day by Kitty553 2015-12-19T08:22:00

Fun game! It gets very visually noisy in the late-game, but the controls and mechanic is great.

The 'powerup' wasn't super useful, however, it kind of made things even more complicated.

The fact that the music syncs up to the food sounds is very clever and satisfying.

SAAAM by Ogniok 2015-12-19T08:17:00

Absolutely incredible work!

Great atmosphere, voice acting, art and everything. The writing was especially on-point, and stuff like the automated shower made the game worth playing more than once.

Amazing game!

Save the Oak by Givit Game Studios 2015-12-19T23:37:00

It doesn't seem to run for me - is there maybe a 64-bit version?

Defuser 4000 by Hjalte500 2015-12-15T08:25:00

You should stick this in a .zip; I'm sure I just need to get WinRAR or something but it'd be handy to not go through that.

Defuser 4000 by Hjalte500 2015-12-15T08:46:00

Got it unzipped, but the cursor thing kinda defeated me... I can't seem to make any progress or state changes...

ROUND THINGS X SHARP THINGS by plauk 2015-12-15T08:17:00

Good game! It takes a super long time to load on WebGL, though.

It's really fun when you get good and can sort of 'combo' yourself off different objects.

Really pretty, minimalist graphics! I like em.

It's Something by RougeRogue 2015-12-15T08:28:00

Fun, simple rhythm game! After a few failed balls I got it. Also, it may be good to label "Z" and "X" on the 2 sides - I figured it out pretty fast though.

I love the "Game Over" effect where the pitch drops off!

Nice job overall.

Moss Covers Everything by 23 2015-12-19T07:42:00

Neat little game! The controls are a tiny bit sluggish and tricky at the beginning, but you get used to them.

I did end up sort of just bum-rushing the exit for each of the levels though, maybe you could put something in to discourage that.

FLOW by Romixal 2015-12-15T18:23:00

Cool, experimental concept! I got one puzzle piece, but eventually gave up b/c I didn't seem to be making any progress.

I love the sound design, mood and atmosphere!

Karel by Dry Tree 2015-12-19T22:53:00

Cool puzzle idea! The mechanic was really satisfying once I got the hang of it. The one annoying bit is trying to get through a door that's just been opened, and bumping into it, wasting some time.

Other than that, good, well-polished puzzle game!

Dig Runner by mikedurn 2015-12-15T08:58:00

Cool game! It'd be nice to be able to move with the keyboard, though - moving with the mouse wasn't super responsive.

It's really satisfying when you do manage to trap the enemies, though.

TreePlanting Simulator by Cursed Embassy 2015-12-19T23:35:00

Interesting start! Nice graphics and sound, and it teases an interesting idea, but I wasn't sure if there was anything to do after planting that one tree.

aSCALErate by Strike 2015-12-15T08:54:00

Great game! the controls were tight and responsive.

It does have that Mario Kart problem where you can go from 1st to last from 1 bad dice roll though :P

Hello Darkness by jcmonkey 2015-12-19T08:35:00

Good game! Great atmosphere, and cool mechanic with throwing your boomerang light-source. Killing enemies is pretty satisfying, although the mines tend to kill YOU way easier :P

Keep making games!

Chicken vs Smoke by eprincev 2015-12-19T23:39:00

Interesting game! Cool 'flappy-bird' style mechanic plus a shooting aspect.

Growing Diseases by FlatPivot 2015-12-15T08:07:00

Fun game, it controls really smoothly and has awesome juicy screen shake, particle effects and overall graphics.

I'm a little confused why the camera zoomed in on me when I jumped, though, that seemed kinda like a bug. And it'd be great to have a little more feedback if my attacks are working or not.. Am I supposed to hit the little germ-turrets, or the lungs?

Good game overall!

Punch Beat by AboLD 2015-12-15T08:38:00

Incredible graphics and audio!

The animations are dope and the music and sound are awesome. I love the slowly increasing-complexity backbeat that's happening in the background, although I don't totally understand what it's for.

It would've been awesome to expand on this mechanic somehow, maybe make enemies with more varied attacks or something.

Incredible presentation though!

Homeworld by Bumblepie 2015-12-15T09:21:00

Great game! I love the artwork and the controls are quirky, but in a good way.

I think I eventually ran out of bullets though? Not sure if it was a glitch, but it was frustrating.

I love the music! Also the growing mechanic is delightfully annoying.

Tiny Tyrant by tyrants.not.found.team 2015-12-19T07:32:00

Really fun, innovative game!

It got reasonably tricky by the end, but I still scraped by and got the win condition.

Having a reminder of what the policies are between each round might be useful, although it might make things too easy.

Super solid graphics, audio, and mechanic!

Strong Like Orc by SpareWizard 2015-12-15T08:50:00

Great game! I love the 8bit style, and it's super satisfying to jump'n'stab your way across the level.

The blurbs at the end of a life are hilarious!

GURU by TomenLuca 2015-12-20T00:24:00

Incredible game! Played it all the way through. I love the simple card-mechanics, and the quotes are an awesome touch (Jaden Smith is my favorite).

Great job!

Dude On Fire by voca 2015-12-19T23:53:00

Cute game! The graphics, animations and audio are all lovely.

Unfortunately the obstacles appear just a little too quickly.. another half-second or so to give time to react would make this WAY more enjoyable.

Neon Abyss by rsf-krx 2015-12-15T08:14:00

Nice job! I liked the music, and the mechanic was interesting to play around with.

It would have been cool to see a little more "juice," like Andy said, and it would feel a little more "fair" if the player didn't die in 1 hit from hitting something wrong.

Overall, good game!

Scroll Bars by Scipio Xaos 2015-12-19T23:50:00

Interesting game! It gets pretty unreasonably hard after speeding up, I found myself just staying at the smallest size and flicking out to get stuff that was near me. But that was still a satisfying mechanic.

LD35 — Shapeshift

Shifty Shapes by dylanwolf 2016-04-19T03:00:00

Great game! Really smart mechanic that comes together well.

It gets super engaging/stressful really fast!

The sound design and mechanic make it super engaging; my only complaint would be the controls which I see you fixed in the post-comp version.

Cheers!

Gallery by ToadieTechnika 2016-04-27T21:58:00

Great game, super innovative idea! I'm not super good at memory games, but it was satisfying to clear the board and rack up vertices.

I loved the shape-naming part, it would be awesome to save to an online gallery!

Stellar music, mood and art design on this. Great job!

SHAPE.SHIFT() by Xanjos 2016-04-23T05:48:00

Great art and music! I love the bloom filter and the particle effects.

Once I realized the top and bottom holes were always all the way up/down, I got pretty far! The game is super hard, but I managed to get 160 points, my crowning achievement.

Overall, great fun!

Shape Shifter Match Maker by schizoid2k 2016-05-03T04:08:00

Fun game! It's really satisfying to learn the pattern and become a shape-matching god.

It did seem to never go above 3 shapes at a time though, and I just was able to keep going until 70 points, then called it quits. It would've been cool to see 4 shapes or even more, but maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment ;)

Great job!

SPY by vados 2016-04-27T22:04:00

Fun simple stealth game! Beat it on the second try, after learning a bit more about how the enemies moved. I'm a little confused as to when enemies are suspicious of you - it seems like once you copy FROM them they're supposed to follow you, but then sometimes they did anyways.

I loved the level design - having it be super easy to go down the corridor then really hard on the way back was clever.

Great job!

pulsar by dvdagames 2016-04-21T23:58:00

Interesting concept!

It's pretty satisfying being able to use the enemy's attacks against you.

Controls are a little weird on the keyboard, it might've been good to use the mouse for shooting.

LD37 — One room

Unfinished Shaman Game Demo by alexmakovsky 2017-01-01T02:16:00

I loved the artwork and style! You've got a great start here, I was intrigued by the characters and was excited to see more!

Cure the Zombie by The_Turtle 2017-01-01T02:20:00

Great start, but it's really tough to have to read all those directions... I couldn't figure out if there was something to do with the knife or the hilts that I picked up, and my inventory filled up with stuff once I was actually able to start finding the A B C D stuff. I like the idea, and the "One Room" thing works well here!

Dodge, Dash, Dip, Dive and Duck by Maffew 2017-01-01T02:35:00

I love the pixel animations! The death animation is great and I love how it reacts to you standing on a platform.

The hitboxes could use a little work, it's not totally clear why I died to spikes some of the time. Also, it'd be nice to start the game more zoomed out, it felt kind of claustrophobic. Great start overall!

Triskaidekaphobia by Otso Turpeinen 2017-01-01T02:32:00

Great start! I absolutely love the atmosphere and the characters you've created, it leaves me with a lot of questions. The movement system takes a little getting used to, but overall it was a really solid experience!

Entropy by Cosine 2017-01-01T03:01:00

Good start! I think it'd be more fun if the gun had a shorter cooldown and you added some more feedback effects and "juice" (sound effects and particles when you shoot enemies, etc.).

I like the art and theming! Although I'm not totally sure how this lines up with "One Room..."

Escape the Room by CoderDozer 2017-01-01T02:06:00

Good start to a game! I gave up after losing all my lives to the part with the low ceiling.

It's got a good base, but you definitely need to tweak the platforming so it feels a little nicer. I liked the theming with the circuits!

It seems like you might be rolling your own physics, or your physics engine is buggy; either way, I'd recommend using something more like Box2D. Overall, good job!

Void Inc. by Erkberg 2017-01-01T22:47:00

Super great game! Following the walkthrough was still really satisfying. I left it on overnight to get unlimited moon rocks and rolled the rest of the game. I like how the final boss can't be directly clicked on, forcing you to protect your minions from the boss' fireballs.

It's a little hard to see the pickups (parchment and slime) but overall this is a really great game!

Walkie Talkie by managore 2017-01-02T01:05:00

You've done it again! Absolutely brilliant and incredible game. It was super fun designing levels and seeing what all the different characters do. It'd be neat to see more letters doing stuff in the future, but still fantastic.

Fantastical Flora by QuestionableQuality 2017-01-01T02:47:00

Great game! It might help to have a few more degrees of telling you how close you are, so you can tweak the parameters more. I loved that you can rename the plants on the clipboard!

Behold Our Dark Science by kato9 2017-01-01T02:13:00

Really good level here! I loved the art style and the platforming mechanics. Running and moving around feels really good. I'd recommend adding some kind of feedback like a sound or animation when you collect a specimen, though, since it seems to be silent when you pick one up now. Good job!
