You can remove or rename the death sound file (resources/sound/aah.wav) to make the sound go away.
Are you by any chance using a strange keyboard layout or are you pressing the Enter key on the keypad?
The keypad Enter might not work properly, but the regular one should, and have worked for everyone I sent the game to for testing.
The download is big because we added one music track per level, plus the one in the menu. The music takes about 20MB, the rest is mostly .dll files.
We will shortly make new Linux builds using an older version of glibc, and bundling all the necessary .so-files so that everyone should be able to run it.
It should fix both of your problems olav_st and summaky. Check back in a few days, I'll post a new comment when they're available for download.
We didn't make the music, it is by dtrx (http://dtrx.bandcamp.com), as stated on the Credits page. The music is licensed under Creative Commons BY-NC-SA.
The new Linux package will hopefully be done tomorrow, it will contain all necessary .so-files except Qt4.
We performed a system update on our server just now and something caused breakage and the server is no longer booting. This means that our download links will not work.
We're sorry for this and we're hoping to have the server up and running again early tomorrow.
We have updated the Windows build now and it should fix the crash. However there's still a few bugs left, like bots getting stuck in place sometimes when they should change direction.
Unfortunately we can't reproduce the crashes on our system with the development environment installed on, which makes the problem a lot harder to track down. We can however confirm that it does still crash on systems without it installed.
We hope to find and fix this problem later today (we're all currently at work), and we recommend Windows users to wait for this fix before testing the game.
Linux download only contains a .exe file.
The Linux version (after updated URL) didn't run out of the box. I had to copy files from another Linux Unity game and the Windows version of this game to get it to run.
Once that was done it ran without problems :)
Compiled it on Linux though it was a bit of work.
PDCurses wouldn't work for me, but luckily it it was API compatible with ncurses, so linking it against ncurses instead fixed it for me.
I am not sure what this game had to do with the theme, but it was an interesting idea anyway :)
Also, it seems the music is not included with the source version.
I tried copying it from the windows build but still didn't get any sound.
Really nice game! I didn't find it short at all, rather I was impressed by its length :)
The puzzles were sometimes quite tricky and I really enjoyed it.
The music and sound effects were good and did not disturb.
Graphics were simple, but did their job and looked good.
Game also ran good on Linux.
Well, the game was fun, but way too short :)
I liked the boss AI and his different attacks, it left me wanting more which is a good thing.
With my controller the movement was inverted which made it very confusing, so I had to fallback to playing with keyboard.
On the second playthrough I also had a bug with the music starting over and over after just a few seconds.
I also don't see any background on Arch Linux.
Tried the Linux build and building from source, same result.
Works good with the updated version.
I like the gameplay concept, but I found it a bit too hard, it just required a bit too pixel perfect positioning for me to handle with my keyboard.
Maybe making it a bit easier overall still with hard sections and with some kind of checkpoints.
I like the simple graphics and the mood, it feels well made.
Nice graphics, especially the menu design.
Music is great and creates a nice mood.
The gameplay is fun although a bit hard, mostly because of the (imo) slightly awkward movement controls :)
I managed to run the game on Linux by using java -jar ./FireBugLinux.sh.
At first I assumed it was a regular .sh-file and tried to chmod it and run it, which didn't work.
Anyway, once the game was running it worked great.
I have to say this game had me laughing, in a positive way.
That "aaaaah" sound is so epic and hilarious! :D
The game itself is very hard and unforgiving, I didn't manage to get past level 2 :)
Also, the physics could use some improvements.
I didn't really understand the goal of the game. I noticed that I seemed to colonize planets by flying near them, but what about the people floating around in space that I rescue (?), they're all just floating after my ship. Is there any way to safely land them on a planet or something?
Ah, I just watched your gameplay video and noticed that you're showing score in the bottom right corner of the screen, and some multiplier in the top. None of these are rendered in the game for me, running on 64-bit linux.
I second what ZNCatlaw said, releasing only for Linux is cool :)
Game ran great for me.
The concept is really fun and I like the physics except for the horizontal movement which made it hard for accurate platforming.
The game is damn hard, I never managed to get past 139 blocks :P
Quite fun, I like the mechanics, especially the camera function.
With some more polish, especially improving the graphics, this would have been awesome.
Some walking sections could also have been shortened imo and adding music and sfx would have done a lot to improve the feeling.
Worked good on Linux.
Rather difficult due to the physics and the game was too short.
My best time was 32 :P
Ran just fine on Linux with the bundled jre8 :)
The game, to me, wasn't very fun simply because it wasn't very challenging.
The AI never attacked, and it was more of a contest of patience with collecting taxes.
Still, the game feels well made and the concept isn't bad, I just think it could have been a bit more challenging and less repetitive.
Some music and sfx wouldn't have hurt either :)
Game ran fine on Linux. Graphics were nice, and I was impressed by the amount of content :)
The music and audio was good overall but I really didn't like the music from the first world, I found it to be a bit annoying and it was too repetitive.
One bug I found was I couldn't manage to zoom back in once I had zoomed out, and also the anchor interaction thing as mentioned in the submission.
The text from the signs could overlap when you stood in certain locations making it hard to read.
@Chubb1337: Thank you for the report. Are you able to reproduce the crash?
@DinnerInTheDark: Thank you for the report. There is one memory leak that I know of, and that is proceeding to the next level, which won't free resources from the previous one. But it's a matter of 13MB per level and shouldn't be a source of the crashes. We will investigate it.
We were finally able to reproduce the crash and we've patched it and uploaded new binaries. So you who have experienced crashes, please download the new version and try it again. Thanks.
@utgarda: Thank you for your interest! Your problem might be due to the new GCC 5 ABI, I am not sure if that is synced to Manjaro yet. We will try to create a static build on Debian stable as hopefully that will allow more people to play the game :)
@utgarda: Very fair criticism. This is a common problem in most of our games, they are too hard and not easily accessible. We will work on improving this for our next games.
@Darkflint: That's a new one. We don't save any kind of state, so I don't see any reason why it would not start again.
@Switchiers: This will surely be added to a post LD version of the game. Thank you for your feedback! :)
@Brandondyer64: As the description states, the Linux build requires SFML 2.3 to be installed :)
@mukult: Sorry for that. The game is created in C++ with SFML, so making a web version of it is not very straightfoward. The game will build on OSX, but we don't have access to any OSX machine to build on.
@Trizek35: Thank you for the kind words!
I believe your problem with the "clumsy controls" is due to the round not being over. The hourglass at the top of the screen will be showing when a round is still in progress, and you have to wait for it to disappear before you can make your next move :)
@TheMonsterFromTheDeep: That's very interesting, you are the first to report that problem. I have no idea what could be causing it, unfortunately.
And yeah, in hindsight we should've reordered the levels.
@hyperscope @rjhelms: Agreed, a countdown would've been helpful :) This is one of the things I hope to add in a post LD version of the game.
@piper82: What OS are you using?
@piper82: Okay, and nothing happens? No error messages? The window does not even appear?
Didnt get it. No clear goal
Okay, interesting take on an old classic. Quickly becomes very repetitive though :)
Wow, that audio sample is annoying ;D
Too easy for me, but felt solid and polished :)
Hard to play as the colors are a bit confusing
Crasches on OS/X
Fun mechanics, enjoyed it :)
But as d_0o_d said, it is a bit too easy if you choose not to water the plants.
Making each level require a number of plants grown in order to complete it might not be a bad idea.
Only Windows, please update the links
WTF did I just play :) anyway! fun or something
Fun little game. My only 2 small nitpicks are that I found the max movement speed a tad bit too slow for my taste, and the teleporters were sometimes hard to use since the mouse position remained in its old position, sometimes pulling the ball in and out of the teleport.
Any chance of exporting a Linux version? I really wanna try this, but the HTML5 version won't work for me :(
Please disregard my comment, the HTML5 version works good on my desktop :)
Just played through the game and reached the good ending :)
Great game, great art, great music, makes for a really good mood.
Only problem is I want more of it.
For example, I would like to know who is sending those alert messages, is there maybe a a darker plot behind that as well? :D
Har to play with trackpad..
Best Unity game played to this point.
Did not work on Linux for me.
unable to run OS/X
Har to play. Controls are a bit weird to. Good start tho
The Fedora build worked good for me on Arch Linux. Game felt polished within its scope. I liked the ability to upgrade at the end of day :)
Challenging and fun :D
I really like the control scheme, feels fresh, challenging and fun.
Game was made even more challenging due to some graphical glitches that seems to be a common theme among the Unity games I've tried so far.
I managed to capture a bit of it here: http://home.znur.re/unity_bug1.png
Challenging, and really fun! Controls are great.
Only thing I can complain about is I think the interpretation of the theme is a bit too weak.
Wow. Great idea, great execution. Really fun, addicting, and challenging. I couldn't make it past stage 3 even after what felt like 30 tries or more. Still I love it. Great job.
Yay, made it onto the high score... for a while at least :D
Fun game. Big kudos for going with your own engine, that's really awesome.
I had to link my librtmp.so.1 to librtmp.so.0 for the game to start, as that version of the lib was not bundled and I had a later version installed.
Otherwise the game ran great, launched in fullscreen on my 34" monitor, was a very immersive experience.
Now I truly feel like a cat going downhill on a plank of wood :P
Also really cool with online high scores, gives the game a lot of replayability.
Only thing I can complain about is that the camera was a bit jumpy at times.
@Alpenter: I ran the game through GDB and got a bit more info...
I can get to the Unity config screen, choose Windowed and press OK.
Once the Unity window is shown it crashes with the SIGPWR signal followed by a SIGXCPU signal.
A quick Google search tells me this signal is sent to processes using too much CPU time, like too recursive functions.
Hope this helps.
The Linux build is missing the data folder
Linux build works great now :)
Fun and slightly addicting game, not much to complain about.
A small bug is that you can keep jumping and gaining score after you've died :P
Nice and crisp graphics. Kudos for using SDL! I found the game a bit too easy, I would've liked to see the difficulty increase progressively :)
First Unity game I've tried during this LD that has worked perfectly for me on Linux :P
Fun concept, but the physics are *really* weird.
Innovative use of micro management and game felt pretty polished overall. In its current state I don't find the game very fun though.
With some more work it could turn into a fun game :)
os?
Works on OS/X
THE most fun game on LD34!
Very frustrating :P
It was very hard to jump, and I got stuck in the ground sometimes.
Fun game, nice concept. I could see this becoming a very good time killer with some polish.
I really like how the graphics are updated in realtime to show the ninja getting dressed. Showing the score while playing would be a nice addition.
Also, the procedural generation algorithm could use some work since atm crates are often spawned inside or too close to flower pots, flower pots are spawned upon each other, etc.
The graphics could really use some more love too ;)
Took a while to figure out how it worked, but once you do it's pretty cool and innovative. Nice graphics.
Also, I managed to get the game into an infinite loop once and had to kill -9 it :P
Couldn't reproduce it though.
Good game but the controls are hard to play with
I am getting the same error as the others using the WebGL version, the other versions are unavailable for me since I am using Linux.
Okay, after the updated WebGL version I get a bit further.
But my browser (both Firefox and Chromium) gets stuck on the following error:
An error occured running the Unity content on this page. See your browser's JavaScript console for more info. The error was:Uncaught unknown compression method
@Switchiers: Thank you! The Linux build worked great. A very fun, frustrating and addicting game. I dare say it's among the best I've played so far this LD :)
Amazing art and music. As a Zelda fan I really love this. Idea is also good, but as others have said, checkpoints are far too rare.
This is really nice! Plays like a mix between Snake and Achtung, die Kurve! Really digging this concept, especially for multiplayer.
Also kudos from me for going with C++ and SFML :)
For the Linux build I had to move the binary into a subdirectory manually as it was looking for data in ../data.
Great fun, just enough challenge and plenty of levels :)
I had to install pytmx on Linux to play the game.
Oh, I also forgot to mentuon that I really like the level design. Especially how you introduce players to new mechanics progressively. We have a lot to learn from this as our games always end up too hard ;)
Nice game! Realy good job making the graphics
Got it working on Linux after some fiddling :)
Challenging and fun control scheme, good physics, nice graphics, good level design.
Not much not to like in this one, except for the lack of sound and music perhaps :)
I just love the art for this entry :) I found the controls a bit awkward to use though. My head kept telling me W would move the character in the facing direction, probably due to the camera angle, which resulted in more than one misstep. Probably would've been more intuitive if I'd used a gamepad. Catching the rabbits was sometimes hard and tedious. As others have mentioned, the flashlight was a great addition and really helped set the mood.
Nice job! As others have said, the lack of instructions and feedback in the UI made the game a bit tricky to play at first. I wasted a lot of whisky and food before I figured I had to first click "use" then one of the characters. Once I got the hang of it, things progressed quite smoothly, allowing me to survive until day 130 :)
Linux version worked good, thanks for providing one :) While the game worked good, I can't really say I enjoyed it. I played for 5 minutes, reaching an income of $30 or something, and from what I can tell there's no end game or any challenge really, but maybe I am missing something vital? :P Anyway, graphics were cute and pleasant to look at and the game played good.
Really nice game. Like the previous comment I was concerned about the shield in the beginning, thinking "how is this even remotely balanced if i can always keep the shield up?", and just then you took it away. I like that removing powers forces you to change/adapt your play-style. I also think you managed a very good difficulty curve throughout the game, something that we usually struggle with (making our games too hard for new players).
It was ok for a 3D game in 48 hours I guess. I'd really like some path finding for the player, since it was a bit annoying at times to move between the houses. I also think that you have a bit too much time to kill all criminals, I didn't really have to sacrifice any citizen, making it a bit too easy.
The Linux version is just the Windows build and is therefore not playable on Linux as advertised.
@mrwhimble Thanks! I will give it a shot tomorrow :)
@mrwhimble I am happy to report that the Linux version ran very well as far as I could tell :)
That said, I could not really figure out **how** to actually play the game. I mostly ran around, trying to hit people with the knife without success. It also seemed like I could pick them up? At least they disappeared when I right clicked in front of them, but I did not seem to have any possibility of actually putting them down again. More instructions would have helped **a lot** :)
I liked the low poly graphics and the simple texturing.
**Lovely** graphics, and an interesting concept. However, as others have said, it's difficult to see where a sheep is going to get dropped due to the perspective and lack of shadows. I also felt like there was no real challenge to the gameplay. I tried 2 levels, and the only "challenge" as far as I can tell was to carry sheep and drop them down. I was missing some kind of puzzle or similar fleshing out the gameplay. As it stands, the gameplay is mostly tedious having to run back and forth picking up and dropping sheeps :)
I had very high hopes seeing the great presentation for this game :) The graphics are nice and polished, but I couldn't get along well with the control scheme. Often time the character would jump again by itself straight after a jump, making it hard to collect ideas. Also, sometimes the character would behave very erratically like slowing down mid-air and starting to shake, sometimes getting stuck. Not sure if this was part of the gameplay or some kind of bug. Also, it was frustrating that the "checkpoints" like the sanity house, home, etc were skippable by means of jumping over them. If you do so by mistake you have to walk a whole other round in order to get back there.
For some reason the Unity web player seems to hang completely as soon as I hit some rubbish. Using Linux and Firefox 63.
Linux version worked good! :) I have to say, out of all the games I've played this LD this is the one which feels most like a proper game to me. Nice and cute graphics and a good concept, even though it's not all too innovative. It took a while getting used to the controls, but once I did it was an enjoyable experience playing :)
Worked great for me on Arch Linux. Always nice to see non-Unity games, especially with Linux binaries. Crazy/awesome to use Rust for a game jam. :)
Game worked great on Linux with Firefox 63. Idea is good, but I found it to be a little bit too slow paced for my liking. Slightly tighter controls and more movement speed for both the minotaur and the player would have made the game more interesting for me at least :)
Very laggy as others have already said making it very hard to play. Another problem, as has been mentioned before, is that you don't see the ground when you're up in the air forcing you to take a guess as to where to land. I really like the way you have handled the tutorial part of the game though with the text explaining the controls :)
@dexp Or crazy women, as in my case (Znurre) :)
I just want to point out that the graphics style was actually a conscious choice, as we wanted to have something very minimalistic for this game. You can't always satisfy everyone I guess :)
Thanks for the feedback!
@ajayajayaj We haven't made a "post-LD" version, or any changes after the deadline at all for that matter, so the version linked is the "original version".
@ajayajayaj Ah, I see. We're from Sweden, so with the time zone difference the jam ends at 3 AM on Tuesday for us, and we had work on Monday, so we can usually only use 48 of the 72 hours (Sat-Sun). But this time we managed to do some last minute adjustments on Monday evening. Since we're a team (of 2) the compo was never an option anyway.
The commit log is available at https://github.com/MemoryLeek/ld43/commits/master if you're interested. :)
