LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

It Must Be Fed by Move127 2018-12-09T09:29:13Z

Things that I liked: + Nice pixelart + Great idea of moral choices and take on the theme + Pop up tips for controls and actions which should be done + Ability to kill guards even if leads to gameover

What might be added: + Exit sign or something behind that guard + Narrative of some sort or telling the consequences of decisions that I have made would be nice + Ability to kill myself

Bugs/feature being noticed: By stabbing 'R' the same victim repeatedly I can push up the score endlessly as well as my personal satisfaction from what I'm doing. 🗡

Have deep my respect for being compo!

P.S. Just jealous of your students: wish my teachers had make games for me to teach me something.

Bunnycula by pcmaster 2018-12-09T15:34:06Z

Great take on the theme!

Consider adding to the game the following: + Even a bad soundtrack is better than no one. + Different types of bait for different animals would be nice. + Enlarge bait radius - I had to almost corner rabbits in order to make bate attractive for the prey.

Any way nice entry, congratulations!

Sector 256 by ping78 2018-12-09T17:26:09Z

I'm not sure what is this game about... And what do I have to sacrifice?

Fist of Wrath by vlandemart 2018-12-09T10:17:25Z

I had fun playing your game! It is a nice feeling to punish some humans who spread around the world like cockroaches ;-)

Thing that might be considered for being added to the game: + sound track - it will add to the overall atmosphere + variety of weapons for the god to chose from with different cooldown time. + ability to shoot down launched fireballs

Another concept to consider: killing all the population should IMO lead to game over. Gods exit only until there is at least one human believing in them. So I would change gameplay towards keeping the population in the certain range: to small - the can't reproduce and die out of starvation, to big - they overshoot you. And the goal is to stay alive say for a minute or two.

Have my respect for being a solo developer in this game. Very nice entry!

DBK - A Band Story by Sebastian-M 2018-12-09T15:19:43Z

Really cool that game has a dynamic soundtrack! Downloading your source code to learn from it. Congratulations on having a solid product and have my respect for being solo developer!

Disorder by MaxKlimenok 2018-12-09T08:06:12Z

@kanacell Thank you for playing our game! We fixed the issue and added win32 build for just in case some one will have problems with WebGL. So please give our game a second try!

Disorder by MaxKlimenok 2018-12-09T17:09:37Z

@dexp @dbongames Thanks for feedback! Actually 11 people (students mostly) have been working on the game, 3 of which are programmers: 2 juniors and me. Most of the code has been written by juniors and rewritten by me the last moment. So I guess firing 2 programmers shall do the trick! ;-)

If we decide to go on with the game, the proper tutorial and ingame hints will be introduced for sure, as well as half of the game code to be rewritten from scratch.

Disorder by MaxKlimenok 2018-12-09T17:18:39Z

@justcamh @jac-b Thank you for your feedback and playtesting. As mentioned above there was no time to introduce proper tutorial and we will do it for sure as well as onscreen hints. Also it worth mentioning that "mobile" is the target platform for the game. So we tried to keep amount of input keys as low as possible (jump, dash and switch world) adding another button (jump down) for mobile platform might become to overwhelming for average mobile player... so we intentionally abandoned this option and "gravity" is the only way to get down.

Mudul's Trial by Kanacell 2018-12-09T08:02:50Z

Cool to see that you have a working product!

Ways to improve: + add radar or minimap to find mobs stuck on the edge of the map. + some sort of cursor showing where AOE splash will be. + balancing mobs and characters speed. + scrolling through weapons is not very convenient, binding weapons to 1-9 would be more suitable in the heat of the battle.

Liked the idea of changing walls on the arena! I managed to pass 2 waves. And died on 3rd one.

Any way, nice work, well done for 72 hours!

Labrats by Matank 2018-12-09T08:51:27Z

Cool puzzler!

Nice try on the theme. Very nice way of adding narrative: it is fun and helps a lot in the beginning. Great level design.

Nice game, congratulations! And have my respect for being solo developer of this little gem!

Hours of the Day by squirmonkey 2018-12-09T09:44:09Z

Well this is the game about my life. Well done!

Things that might be improved if you'll decide to continue with the game: ability to drag and drop items (or some of them) in the calendar not just cancelling them.

Have my respect for being compo!

Bye¡Buddy! by Lenny92 2018-12-09T17:44:49Z

Very nice! I managed to finish first level with 3 survivors. Level design is pretty challenging but still playable. The only problem that I had was situation when half of my buddies was left outside left side of the screen, while other run forward beyond rite side of the screen... probably the camera should zoom out in order to fit all the pack on the screen.

Liked the physics and character control very much. Great take on the theme! Well done!

Turtle Torture by Haydn Comley 2018-12-09T08:31:50Z

Another cool entry here. Cool that you have implemented crafting / inventory system in one day.

Having a map or radar showing the direction to the altar would be nice: I have got lost once. Managed to get pass 3rd night and then my inventory got full so picked up items disappeared to nowhere.

Having turtle as a main character is cool explanation of why it is so slow!

Well, well well well, well!

Desert Flight by Tero Pulkkinen 2019-10-25T16:22:03Z

Ways to improve: - Birds colorcoding - cant see some of them on background. - Probably there should be something to shoot at...

Mastafoon! by Local Minimum 2019-10-25T14:50:54Z

Nice and chalenging puzzle! Liked the idea of combining inventory with action points - you cant have both! -Nice.

Cowquest by oxysoft 2019-10-23T11:20:19Z

Damn! So good!

Liked: So much content! So much humor! Cool genre mix! Nice try with the theme! Spent an hour or more playing! Was excited to find out of what is in the end! You have sveral minigames in one game and grea meta!

Disliked: Lost my first castle battle and was not able to get out of it. Do not want to start (replay) from start.

Overall: Funtastic entry! The best so far! We also have RPS minigame in our entry, and we definetly will steal some ideas from your game! Like ingridients gathering for future battles! Thank you so much for the fun I had!

Abstractio by loyance 2019-10-26T06:31:42Z

All right! Alchemy reincornation. Things to improve: - "remove duplicates" button might be a nice addition: you can not "consume" an element - so what is point of having duplictes in game at all?) - Adding colliders on elements so they do not overlap... and say, when new elements are created, they just push out all other elements to the borders fo the screen. Reason: half time spent just moving elements around, especially in the late game.

Cradle of the void by notime4games 2019-10-26T06:54:25Z

A good one!

Pros: - Solid concept of finding what you have to do in this game... But honestly, I have to read other comments to figure it out. - Mood and atmothphere. - Take on the theme - SFX

Cons: - Controls sensitivity

Woys to improve: - Controls scheme - give it more love. - Hints (maybe if game sees that player has no progression throught the plot for say 60 sec - give him a hint.)

Stop at Nothing by mao 2019-10-25T14:01:04Z

4th level is too much. It took me a lot of time to figure out undo mechanic.

Star Battle by microwerx 2019-10-25T13:53:15Z

Nice space sandbox and nice soundtrack.

Bulbz by Gurbx 2019-10-25T13:20:46Z

Nice visuals, and game is pretty chalenging. I whould rather transfer aiming and shoting from arrtows to mouse.

Rescue Hamsters! by ryjcio 2019-10-25T11:11:58Z

Not bad - but it takes time to get used to Shift+LMB -> Right click should be much more convinient! Also I'd like to have enough time to prebuilt (think about) the level and then hit "play" to see hamsters go through. Here I have to do everything in real time and I'm not that fast for it.

And thanks for "online" html/js build!

De-Desertification by Likirus 2019-10-23T12:21:28Z

Liked: + I was impressed with writing own engine. + Gamification of enviromental problems. + Cool joke with plastic tank.

Ways to improve: * Not chalenging at all. Game needs rebalancing: IMO sprinklers should consume water not plants. Too rainy for a desert. To make soil fertile it should be not enough to put sprinkler around, -> buy fertile soil and plant only on it. -> if it goes dry for any reason it should deteriorate (fall back) to desert sand, so you'll have to repurchase it again.

Despite it is a Jam entry, I'm impressed that you are a Compo actually. Have my respect.

Nothing but Ghosts and Clouds by xatulu 2019-10-24T17:08:52Z

Liked: + Tutorial is a part of the game - learn to play while playing - nice! + Sound and mood in general + Visual style

Disliked: - Difficulty - I'm not the guy to sit there all day trying to pass past level 5. Finished level 4 in 5 tries... - I'm not a big fan of platformers - but this is personal.

Ways to improve: - A bit more polishing here and there and you are good to go!

Mole Bass by Rubel_NMB 2019-10-25T10:57:15Z

Nice and fun! Especially attic level (was pretty chalenging)! Cool visual and sound!

Hubcap Pup by Terribly Awesome Games 2019-10-26T07:10:31Z

It is cool that you have your own art and adnication. Also liked multilayered enviroment and paralax effect.

BLOB by Dudum Lare 2019-10-24T16:32:47Z

Wow! I managed to beat your game and finish in rocket! Not from the first try, nor from the second. ))) Make sure that player is unable to place buildings on top of each other, otherwise UI gets to messy.

KOLENdor by MaxKlimenok 2019-10-23T11:40:25Z

@likirus Thanks for playtesting! The decisions which AI makes during the Rock Paper Scissors battle is completly random (as IRL - you cant be sure what opponents choice will be), but overal battle difficulty is adjusted based on your current active "percks" and decisions previously made: either you or the opponent may start the battle with some "win points" already earned. So i.e., if you start with BattleModifier +2, to win the battle you have to win only 3 draws, while opponent has to win all 5 draws.

KOLENdor by MaxKlimenok 2019-10-23T12:45:01Z

@wolfrug We thought about it, we even have this functionality coded: Hex-with-icons.jpg

We disabled this feature for several reasons:

1). Things become much more predictable - if you get informed of what your are getting/loosing next tile there is much less fun and thrill of going through.

2). On almost half the tiles you have several resources to get/lose/trade -> which icon(s) to show?

3). This feature works well for example when the map is predesigned and you have to "sacrifice" some resources to get to some distant hexes, but when the map is completely random each time you start a new game...

Maybe we should show these icons only on tiles where only one resource is gained/lost for sure... But thanks for the tip! I like the idea of showing tiles "info" when the player is almost dead. We definitly will give it a try.

Never Ending Entropy by CodeKoto 2019-10-24T18:14:57Z

Deliv' 51 by Larnin 2019-10-23T09:40:30Z

All right!

Liked: + City - very cool and good looking! + Camera perspective + Drif effect! + Coolest start menu so far! + Nice 2d art! + Atmothphere of something wrong going on. + Gameplay is intence as it is supposed to be.

Disliked: - Controlls - was unable to turn while standing still... I was cornered a few times by UFOs... Was unable to turn around on the same street... yea I know that IRL vehicles can not turn around if standing sill but some sacrifices have to be made in favour of gameplay. - Did nont figured out how to kill UFOs - but I think it should be fun

Ways to improve: * Make your city more alive! Screaing citizens / cars running away from UFOs would be so much fun! * A bit more controls/responsivness polishing. * A bit more extended tutorial would be nice

Damn! I had fun playing your game! Thanks!

What have you got there? by kirroyal 2019-10-25T15:07:35Z

I'm not big fan of pixelart nor of platformers/runners, but the idea of imaginary world inhabited with mobs and a stick as a sword is awesome! Really a cool decision! So much room for imagination: folowing grandpa to a hospital, walking elder sister to a coledge, taking mom to work - this might be a hit. Although tilesets and music is no yours you managed to create cool fantasy mood and atmothphere! Well done! And thanks for WebGL build!

Dead Again by Joe Bustamante 2019-10-25T14:34:36Z

It was fun... Especially the BattleMage... )))

Galaman by Feh 2019-10-23T10:05:54Z

All right!

Liked: + Intro animation - It looks like a lot of effort was put into it. High five to your artists! + Pretty interesting and catchy to find out of how big you can grow - I have got 2500+ point and it becomes pretty much hard to navigate around avoiding dangers - cool gamedesign decision. + PacMan reincarnation idea!

Disliked: - was not able to figure out at start of what is eatable and what is not

Ways to improve: - Give your "colorcoding" another try - IMO red is a danger color not purple, nor violet. - Leaderboard to compeate for high score is a must for such games.

Anyway, congrats! cool entry!

Out of insight by Dina 2019-10-23T09:15:21Z

NoControl by simXple 2019-10-25T16:45:51Z

Some sound in the game - even a bad one is much better than none. Nontheless great take on the theme.

HOBO DAYS by FinnThePirate 2019-10-25T15:25:08Z

Nice visuals and pixel art. Nice idea behind the game. Although there are several bugs here and there (0.00069234$ or inability talk to strangers right in front of vending machine) the game looks polished. It also seams way to random - on day two there were a lot of people in the street (earned a lot that day), on day three only one who gave me nothing (barely survived spending yesterdays revenues)... Add more features and content (cops, eldery people, other hobos... options to rob, or steal mechanic also might be nice addition to the gameplay) you name it) and you are good to go!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Number One Take Out by Kappa.B 2018-04-29T19:55:20Z

My score after the "splitting" boss - 3966. Runs fine on windows.

Thing which I liked: + Visuals - your project encourages to try watercolors in my next project. Love your environments art style. + Shop / upgrades - wish to have a chance to play/spend more. + Dynamics - IMO perfect balance between bullet hell tension and calm periods. With certain skills and persistence it is not a problem to stay alive for long, although it is enough challenging. + Fonts - I wanna know the names. + Arrow - showing the way to go. It helps a lot in navigation!

+/- Procedural map - cant say that it adds much to the gameplay, but hey, it was a 48h compo. Cool!

What should be done: - I miss the audio very much. - Enemies should have normal sprites, as well as bullets - I would suggest replacing them with arrows/crossbow bolts. - Randomly spawned bonuses/buffs/debuffs on the map... mobs' loot... to spend for upgrades.

Anyway, you have my respect for being compo. Congrats for delivering such a wonderful product.

TBFTWorLD41 by joemid 2018-04-26T08:00:54Z

Firstly : Downloaded 500+mb and got this: bug1.jpg (Win10 x64)

Secondly: managed to start: nice intro - cool

Thirdly: gameplay - buggy controls and not clear the purpose of eating - roaring restores the health up to 100%. Nice sound though.

Lastly: crashed

Diner Dive by pebkac 2018-04-26T19:30:00Z

It is cool that you have managed to have playable product.

Although there are a few thoughts to consider:

- It looks to be pretty challenging, especially to remember what fish did I put on which dish. I have to get close to it to see the hint.

- Also it would be nice to have some visual indicator of how long it takes for the fish to get prepared.

- Maybe one order at a time (instead of five) at the beginning of the game could serve as some sort of tutorial and/or introduction.

Twin TV by saintheiser 2018-04-29T08:13:28Z

Impressive! Nice take on the theme! Cool idea and great implementation.

To add more a bit more pressure on the player I would make TVs moving slightly down say each 5-10 secs.

Congratulations for having complete and polished product and thanks for the fun provided!

Bait and Switch: LD41 entry by gafblizzard 2018-04-29T06:36:22Z

Nice sprites and animation, nice audio.

Was not able to catch the last shiny fish. Te bait gets of the hook on the contact with purple fish and game over... Do I do something wrong? How do I change bait type to a larger one?

Edit: Oh! I have got the point. Caught fish becomes a bait for the next one... so your bait is sort of a Russian nesting doll. For me it was not obvious from the description. Cool game design decision!

Bait and Switch: LD41 entry by gafblizzard 2018-04-29T17:01:46Z

@gafblizzard Finally I understood how to play your game. Updated previous comment and the score.

GHOST JOB by paulhocker 2018-04-26T08:35:26Z

Firstly: congratulations that you have working finished product!

Secondly: the game is very simple and is not challenging. Just by adding simple rule: visitors should not touch the gost (otherwise gameover) - your game would easily transform to another "stealth" game. So to set a trap - you have to get close, but getting close is dangerous because you might get caught.

Thirdly: another addition suggestion to make: visitors do not move untill you do (and placing a trap takes a few turns) - so now your game would become a step-by-step tactical puzzler (like "seven seas deluxe" 2003).

Lastly: well done in general!

CONFESSIONAL by Rodrigo Denúbila 2018-04-28T19:15:08Z

Well, very impressive!

Nice take on the theme: very unusual realization.

Other people already said lots of complements in their comments above, and I totally agree with them, but all that is not important that much... For me, the most important thing in your game, winch distinguishes it from 95% of all other LD submissions is that it makes you think. It has a "message" within.

And you have my respect for being solo. Bookmarked your gave for future reference.

Well done!

Rhythm Escape by Apples_mmmmmmmm 2018-04-26T14:22:50Z

Nice project.

IMO the game is very challenging. I have to be very careful while moving, although it is great to have metronome sound on the background, it helps to synchronize right and left hands.

Your have my respect for being COMPO!

A Type Of Rhythm by Space_man 2018-04-26T09:06:32Z

Great idea!

To add more to the game, I would add a musical instrument sound to a keystroke (drum / bass / or something). So you are not just typing, but also playing a music (percussion), one note per keystroke.

Also adding an option to finetune a soundtrack beat/keystroke delay is a must for a such game: it seams that I do have constant syncopation (a disturbance or interruption of the regular flow of rhythm) on some tracks.

In general: well done! you have managed to make a nice product!

The Last Word by adsilcott 2018-04-26T06:26:39Z

Congratulations guys!

You all did well: great art, great narrative and no major bugs has been spotted (hello to coder ;-) ).

Some critics: Genre switching breaks the gaming user experience. When I'm playing strategy mode and having tense action in progress, suddenly game triggers switch to narrative mode... When i'm reading narrative and my imagination (with the help of your great artwork) dissolves me in battle scenes of alien invaders fighting space marines on some distant planet, the strategy mode roughly grabs me out of my dreams and throws back to the hell of the battle. As a suggestion (it might be nice to have a "split screen") with both modes running a the same time. On one side i'm commanding the troops and on the other side i'm receiving "battle reports" with all that visual beauty... or having switching to narrative and back only between battles (i.e. levels)...

One minor bug has been spotted: when you have to many troops built the icons overflow the green bounding box to the left.

Also (while it is strategy) it would be nice to have some limited resources to constrain the player to add challenge and diversity to gameplay (Say random resources spawning on the map to be collected by both sides... you name it.). As of now - time to produce the unit is the only limit in building up players army and it it pretty easy to build up huge army and swipe the aliens if you don't forget to purchase new units as soon as "construction" finishes.

Instead of conclusion: I had a lot of fun playing your game! Great job!

One More Arm by MaximBegunov 2018-04-29T07:51:39Z

Nice idea, although I was not able to pass through 3rd "wave". First and second "waves" attack player from above, but the third wave targets spawn literally on the player and there is no much chance to avoid them and shoot down from a distance.

There are many ways to improve the gameplay by say putting more links between the gamemodes: shooting / not shooting certain targets in arcade mode gives more chances for spawning / not spawning that targets in the slot mode...

And/or spending points earned in slot mode for upgrades in arcade mode...

Anyway, well done!

Quizoids by Dan Violet Sagmiller 2018-04-29T19:16:41Z

Nice genre combo!

If you'll decide to continue with this game after the LD ends I would add some attacking ability to the falling letters (say, damage on collision). So it would become much more challenging finding and shooting the letters you need.

Also adding any type of sounds/soundtrack is a must.

Anyway, congrats on having playable product!

Seagulls by shaw 2018-04-26T12:17:06Z

Nice top-down shooter. I have had lots of fun playing it!

I played a few times and it seam to me that there is not enough "reload" cards in your deck. So all the time i'm almost running around and avoiding things. Also the battle field gets pretty messy, so it is difficult sometimes to spot an enemy, especially the slimes.

Great sound track! Great pixel art and particles effects! Great and diverse card buffs! Great that you have managed making such fun game alone!

The Waiting Room by Rayne 2018-04-26T10:19:11Z

Damn! Good that I do have a third monitor idling on my desk corner. ;-)

Grid Gunner by SuperTibbles 2018-04-29T04:45:51Z

Really cool submission for you age. Suggestion: split controls - make aiming or moving say on mouse 2. Otherwise It often happens that instead of aiming player missclicks white dot and makes accidental wrong move. Also consider WASD movement controls as an option - this way the game will become much more dynamic.

Judgement Day: The Board Game by hhsaez 2018-04-26T15:13:00Z

Man! What a great narrative!

Was fighting through your game holding my breath. Great balance! Finished your game with 1hp left.

My advice - just find a decent 2D artist to draw you an UI, background/enviroments, pics of monsters and space marines... add some creepy sounds, some non linear plot or ability to choose which room to enter - and you'll have a cool space visual novel with board/card game elements.

Thank you for the fun I had.

Skeletons and Fireballs by snarf2000 2018-04-29T08:00:34Z

It really hard to keep with the rhythm: maybe adding some visual aid of the "beat" will make a bit easier. Anyway you have a decent game for a 3 hour effort.

Run and Plant! by Hellblade 2018-04-26T06:57:57Z

Fun game, but "difficulty reduction" bonus seems to be not working. I did not spot any reduction in difficulty.

Also (by spamming the spacebar) i manged a few times to make sort of double jump or "high jump" but was not able to figure out how actually it is working (or this is a bug?).

Extreme Fishing: Shark Bait Edition by stephen321 2018-04-26T20:14:51Z

Coolest shark animation! They really look spooky. Game play is also fun, but I would like to see some sort of multi deck fishing ship, or a bridge instead of red bars.

CrossingDeads by roaderful 2018-04-26T10:05:50Z

Nice drawing style, animation and music... but the game seams to be unplayable or there is something wrong with the controls. Just do not give up! All you need is to re-upload the game with bug fixes, and I'll definitely give it another try.

CrossingDeads by roaderful 2018-04-29T06:26:32Z

@roaderful

Gave it another try.

Win64 version: - Either it is made that challenging on purpose, either I'm doing something wrong... was not able to earn even 100 points... died myself on my way back to escort newly spawned group. IMO: Cones life time is to short, movement speed is to slow (has an unnecessary delay), has to wait for a "full stop" to place a cone. - Well I do understand that we are dealing with zombies, but a delay in controls responsiveness instead of adding to the mood and atmosphere it makes me feel that controls are not working and pisses me off. - No bounding /limiting boxes was found - I can easily go out of play area - Start screen mentioned Z for interact. Interact with what?

WebGL version: - same as above, but also it zooms in and out on itself.

Dropzone Mars by helpcomputer 2018-04-26T19:14:44Z

Congratulations with a polished product. Although is is pretty much simple in the idea, the game looks to be complete. Additional "thank you" for webGL build.

A few words on game mechanics: It would be nice to have a control over the place of where the colonization unit is dropped off. As of now the dropping happens by itself an very often right to the spawn location resulting in quick units death.

Anyway, you have my respect for being solo and for great pixel art.

Tetris Breakout by Mr. Blue 2018-04-26T14:47:45Z

Having bad sounds/soundtrack is much better than having none! Although it is a good idea of shoot'em'up tetris. ;-) Just add more weapons, vfx, explosions, buffs... brick types - and it should be a lot fun to play!

Whispers From the Soul by Sfey 2018-04-26T10:36:51Z

Not a CS:GO of course, but hey, you have had only 72h, and it works!, although I thought that my allies should help me. I managed to beat your game, and it was fun!

Say hi to your bro for the sound track.

Ratty's Stew: An Immersive Cooking Simulation by joekickass 2018-04-26T17:09:47Z

Well guys, congratulations for the submission of the finished and polished product.

Nice modeling and animation, and in general the game runs and feels pretty cosy. Although I'm quite confused with your genre choice: you have a pack of cool 3D artists, your coder is handy with Unreal engine... and you decided to make a 2.5D platformer... are you serious?

Anyway, well done.

Double Trouble by MaxKlimenok 2018-04-26T09:46:27Z

@sndr After LD we were actually totally busy for a few days and only today started to build up our "karma". So we hope to get lots of reviews in the end.

And thank you for your review! We are glad that you had fun!

Double Trouble by MaxKlimenok 2018-04-26T13:21:33Z

@spthiel Thanks for the note! Just did not noticed that we are in the wrong category. Corrected out our entry.

Double Trouble by MaxKlimenok 2018-04-26T19:45:37Z

@TheM Thank you for leaving a comment!

"too many things for the player to do simultaneously" - that is the main point of the game. 👨‍🍳

If you give it a second try you will note that while you are texting, the stuff is flying pretty slowly and the game is balanced in a way that by the time you'll get the recipe, you should have all required ingredients on hand. Then, when you get the recipe, speed increases significantly, and the reasons are as follows: - you do not need to split your attention on messaging anymore, - you need to get absent ingredients fast if any, - Chief Krugger gets really mad at you 😉.

Probably, based on your comment, we should make the following adjustment: after getting the recipe only required ingredients mixed with tableware should be thrown at the player to reduce frustrating waiting time.

Double Trouble by MaxKlimenok 2018-04-26T19:56:52Z

@pebkac Yep. We really tried our best to put the player under the pressure and to create nerve tension user experience with a humor tint.

Double Trouble by MaxKlimenok 2018-04-27T05:10:40Z

@sfey Thank you for your tip of bouncing tableware to the point of where it came from 😆 If we decide to continue with the game after LD, we will definitely implement this one!

Double Trouble by MaxKlimenok 2018-04-29T03:53:20Z

@dovakla You are right, will definitely implement this one to reduce frustrating waiting time in the late game.

Double Trouble by MaxKlimenok 2018-04-29T17:24:21Z

@MaximBegunov Your wish granted!

I just made up Win32 build (find the link in the description). We honor fair play, so this is LD Jam version as it was at the moment of the initial submission without any consequent updates/improvements/bug fixes. It should not differ from WebGL version.

Double Trouble by MaxKlimenok 2018-04-30T05:41:14Z

@gafblizzard Thank you for commenting and for extended playtest.

In the current (Post LD) version we made the following adjustment: as soon as the player gets the recipe he gets only missing food mixed with tableware coming at him, so the player have not to wait endlessly for that cucumber.

But for the purpose of fair play we decided to leave LD Jam version available for evaluation.

Super Soccer by comenoha 2018-04-26T18:15:55Z

Cool idea of a step-by step football. It could be much more fun, but IMO too slow and not dynamic. Great humor, though!

Blitzingo by spthiel 2018-04-26T13:43:47Z

Cool! It took a while to figure out how to auto fill the play-field, but everything else is just fine.

A way for improvement: just add any click/hit sounds and/or soundrack. It seams that using sound generators for the LD (like (sfxr)) is totally fine. Sound ads a lot to a gaming experience.

And you have my respect for being COMPO and using no fancy engines, just pure JS! Cool!

Turn Fighter by dp3rucha 2018-04-26T17:46:08Z

Well, a nice try for the first time!

I like the idea of "preprogrammed" fighting, although I think that the programming stack of commands should be larger (say for 10 coomands, or even more)... This way the player will have less control of the situation and the fight will look more dynamic and natural.

Another thought is to limit time for players decision making - this way the game play should become more intense.

And final suggestion, if you'll decide to continue with your game after the jam: make a larger pool of different actions (moves, shoots, kicks, defenses, recharges, etc..) and put it on the deck of "cards" so that the player will have a different set of available actions to choose from each "round"... and you are good to go for the gold!

Any way, great job of making such product as a single person.

Hoop Tactics by MonstermanMFR 2018-04-30T07:37:12Z

Congratulations with your first submission and really nice take on the theme!

Cool that you have finished and working base product.

If you decide to continue with the game after LD, all you have to do is adding some more options to the ingame menu and some more baseball mechanics, like guarding, intercepting a ball if there is enemy player on the balls pass (raycast) and so on...

Also having individual stats for the players and some training room and/or shop to buy upgrades for the team (say, better chance for stealing the ball, or better chance for shooting, or extra rush movement tile once per game... you name it)... as well as some sort of championship to earn some points/cash to spent in the above shop/training room - would be nice!

Another nice addition, after all we have turn-based tactics game, would bee showing in game chances to the player: say, I have selected my payer with the ball and wanna make a pass, so I'd like to see chances of successful pass above other teammates, so I can have a pseudo-filling of having control over the situation and wise decision-making.

Also enemy AI needs to have some reworking (I have won 12:4) and it was not that challenging.

Anyway it was fun playing your game. It could be made into something big!

BEAT by Dak 2018-04-26T04:48:40Z

Hello. I was no able to lunch your game properly on laptop with small screen resolution (1366x768): dialogs did not fit properly.bug1.jpg Hitting F4 - did not help. Although lagfree version runs fine.

Nice idea of controlling the movement - pretty challenging and needs some practice to master. Regarding everything else: the same as Jamie Morris mentioned above.

Great that you by the end of the LD you have had the playable product!

Gender Circles by EkkoEkko 2018-04-29T03:46:21Z

Nice take on the theme! Fantastic soundtrack and voicing: I have put FL Studion on my "to learn" list.

Also you have my respect for being compo.

KEYBOARD WARRIOR by croewens 2018-04-26T13:17:03Z

Congrats! Well done!

What I liked:

+Simple mechanic

+Drawing style / animation

+Innovative way of shooting/controls

+Everything is made by one person! You have my respect!

Ways to improve:

-Sound!? Any sound effects / sound track (even poor ones) will add up to user experience.

-Add more challenge/end goal. Say, crawl though the level on time or shoot all zombies on time. Otherwise the player can stay in place and just shoot around. Or even taking movement control from the player: the character moves to whatever he pleases and the player should shoot the way through the hordes of zombes - this way you can engage WASD buttons for shooting, or even the whole keyboard. Just give it a try.

Anyway, great job!

Good Boy vs The Bad Boys by ludomyth 2018-04-26T07:23:02Z

Hey! It was 5:48 of pure fun!

I decided to guard only one corner of the map (to minimize the damage done by me to the city). Spiral shot and rockets - is my weapon of choice. Laser and linear burst - have been disposed instantly to free up card slots.

It would be nice to have a minimap/radar to see general presence of enemies in the city. Pretty hard to control: having more cards at hand or seeing a few next coming cards from the "deck/card pool" to plan for the action would be nice to have.

Great soundtrack and voicing!

In general: great job!

Mare Underworld by dearcj 2018-04-29T04:20:11Z

Cool game! Adding some simple soundtrack and audio effects next time would be really nice. And lastly - I want more levels and would like to see other chess monster-figures!

Farmer's Delight: A Twin-Stalk Shooter by Dovakla 2018-04-26T16:35:07Z

Funtastic implementation for a one man jam!

Today I already have rated a few shooting farm sims here on the LD site, and your one is my favorite so far.

Nice dynamic game play where you totally control the risks. Plant to little crops, and you are out of funds, plant to many - and you are dead.

It is obvious that the game is not polished enough and not optimized (becomes turn based strategy with 300+ mobs), but hell yea! It delivers... delivers a lot of fun!

Well done!

Birbo the Game! by yeoldecoot 2018-04-29T08:28:38Z

I won, final score - 106. ;-)

Not sure that I did quite understood of how to use barracks. Adding some colliders preventing enemies to walk through building would be nice.

Sound?

Anyway it was fun. And final boss is awesome!

LD41 by Juzley 2018-04-26T14:09:27Z

Well, grats on your first submission!

Great fresh idea of shooting in match 3!

Although it seamed to me that the game is too difficult (energy bar depletes very fast) and successful shooting IMO restores to small amount of energy... Or maybe a'm not that good in match 3 😉

In general: well done for one person project!

Crazy Cat Collector by theprint 2018-04-29T07:06:11Z

Well, after playing your game for 5 minutes I found the way to cheat it: clicking with both hands on touch-pad and mouse at the same time (income doubled) ;-) But after a another 5 minutes I found myself killing the cats feeling pretty damn good about it. 😜 And now I know exactly why do cat shelters "dispose" their pets.

BTW, here is mine: cat.jpg

P.S. My fingers still hurt.

SmackPaint! Combat Painting with Ross Bob by GregWLyons 2018-04-29T08:52:15Z

Well, nice entry. Cool soundtrack.

Suggestions for improvement: - It seams to me that controls should be improved greatly. - Introduce tool for filling in the large area with certain color.

P.S. How about removing red cubes from the game and throwing all those little cuties onto the canvas and watching how the color of their guts add to my masterpiece? Oh, did I said that out loud?

TypeRunner by ShiMapleLeaf 2018-04-26T07:58:00Z

Pretty, stylish, and too difficult. I like the idea, although it is not new and the feel of the finished and polished product. And finally, have my respect for being COMPO!

Ball-dash Arcade by Craig a 2018-04-26T08:43:12Z

Hi guys! I'm not able to play/rate your game cause I do not have a console controller. Any workarounds except going to the next store?

Field of Skulls by thegreentofu 2018-04-26T12:00:17Z

Congrats guys! Nice results for your first try! Also it is actually a nice combo: farming sim with a shooting. Love it!

Torrejón Love Story by Yahialds 2018-04-26T11:21:20Z

4 games in one! Cool! Thought it was made only by one person @Yahialds and was very inspired that one person can do all that in 72 hours, but when I saw the long list of credits I was slightly disappointed that it was made by large team.

I managed to beat your game, and shoot'em'up part is pretty challenging. On contrary JRPG(fighting) part is pretty easy.

In overall I enjoyed playing your game and have had fun! Great sound, great artwork, great narrative! Great job guys!

Survive the Date by Samurai Ducks 2018-04-29T09:39:19Z

Congrats on your submission!

Suggestions: - Please add controls explanations either here on the page or in the tutorial, they are not obvious: it took me a while to figure out that you can control character with arrows and attack with space, but you can do that only after closing dialog box. - Closing (exiting) a dialog and switching to a battle mode might be activated by movement arrows - it would be very convenient. - Adding an "intro skip" function would be nice. - Also having some score or a timer would be nice - to track your personal improvements and/or compare yourself to others. - If you decide to continue with the game after LD, it would be nice to have some sort of shop to spend points earned on upgrades, buffs, debuffs... or buying bouquet for your girl to gain some "interest" in case the date goes wrong... you are a necromancer after all...

Anyway, I'm in love with your stylish pixel art and animation, and with overall game feel.
