LD38 — A Small World

Naughty Gnomes by gurkenlabs 2017-08-02T19:19:34Z

Fun and strange.

Likes: The movement mechanics of the gnomes, the pixel art representation and design of the character, level layouts were thoughtful and increasingly challenging.

Could improve: I found the repetitive "teehee" sound funny at first but trying after a while.

Overall though, pretty nifty and funny game!

LD39 — Running out of Power

Saturnalia by graebor 2017-08-01T03:30:45Z

Seems like it breaks after about 30 seconds for me unfortunately. I'll keep trying and see what happens. I'm running Mac OS Sierra. The representation and gameplay are really slick though, kudos!

Nuclear Night by aaranos 2017-08-02T05:35:34Z

Pretty cool little game, love the theme too. I also had issues moving the boxes around which slowed me down quite a bit. I think if you could just improve that one mechanic it'd be great!

Starship by wesley werner 2017-08-02T05:22:22Z

really nifty arcade style game, i enjoyed it. I think i'd prefer if you could shoot like in Galaga rather than auto aim and fire by proximity. Was fun though!

Hamster Wheel Simulator by Laaph 2017-08-02T19:31:09Z

HAHAHA this game was hilarious.

Likes: I love concept. I like how the music starts powering up as you build speed. I also dig the quirky hand painted graphics.

Could improve:

I couldn't beat level two like many people though. I think my forearm is kinda sore now haha.

Funny game though!

Artax by Flaterectomy 2017-08-04T04:09:07Z

Top notch pixel art. The subtle details were also pretty nice. I found the first jumping sequence disproportionately difficult though.

Space Dog by Thygrrr 2017-08-03T23:51:54Z

SUPER FUN, well paced, addictive. I think peoples' comments about the mechanics being balanced is spot on. It's not discouragingly difficult but it definitely makes you earn any success you get. It's also pretty well done artistically with a hint of humor.

I liked the sound effects and music, and as a musician myself I can feel that it's done by someone who understands what role it should play in this type of game. Well focused and successful effort. Kudos.

To offer criticism, hmm. I think it'd be a thing if the ship was designed more platonically and using a more intentional color palette. The voxel art was great, but I think focusing on the aesthetic dimension of this game has a lot of potential to make it even more charming. That just goes to say that the mechanics and game-feel are already where they need to be, at least for me.

Evelyn by Everbrave 2017-08-02T03:47:27Z

Great telepod mechanic!! I really enjoyed playing around with it -- especially teleporting to a space in mid-air. Great mood/ambiance of the game. Your art is so nice, and to think that you did this in 72 hours. Awesome job.

Orcs in Space by atridas 2017-08-02T19:21:51Z

I really wanna play! Any word on a mac version??

Night of the Living Toaster by WhatFruit 2017-08-02T04:55:32Z

Charming and funny idea. Really find the animation of the toaster gratifying, and love seeing the power cord flopping around when it rolls.

Lights Out by Brandon Diaz 2017-08-02T19:39:31Z

This is one of my favorite games so far. Simple, effective, and well executed.

Likes:

Aesthetics and sound design were subtle. Concept was simple and perfectly in line with the theme. It was remarkably polished for such a short jam too.

Could improve:

Not much! I agree with people saying the sound effects are slightly too loud, and also feel that the contrast makes the screen hard to see during the day.

Really great overall. Will return to play again!

Mad Trax by boats 2017-08-04T03:56:36Z

The aesthetics were the strongest thing going for me. I found the gameplay good, but somewhat passive and repetitive. Conceptually it made sense, but I spent a lot of time waiting for the next turret box.

Temple of Illumination by Johngun 2017-08-03T23:34:03Z

Kinda felt as though I was an 8-bit Indiana Jones, which is a pretty good level of thematic immersion for such simple mechanics and graphics. I say simple, but I think some of the intentionality behind the mechanics was pretty clever and subtle.

What stuck out to me is how natural the movement, clinging, jumping, and even dying all felt. I liked the somewhat "floaty feel", and it made playing over and over on the same level pretty enjoyable no matter how many times I made dumb mistakes and died.

The art was simple, direct, effective. It did it's job without getting in the way.

If I had to provide any criticism, which is difficult and maybe even a stretch, it's that I'd be interested to see the temple setting change slowly over time so that your only variable from level to level wasn't just the layout itself. I think with that idea would come the idea that perhaps the music, while good, did get somewhat repetitive and could theoretically change little by little with the backdrop.

Nice game, look forward to seeing more from you.

Professional Protesters by MartinTristan 2017-08-02T05:51:08Z

This looks really funny, wish there was webGl or mac!

The Last Question by xaedes 2017-08-01T17:20:04Z

Hey! It looks like we had the same idea! It's a great story huh, and perfect for the theme. Nice job on putting together your first visual novel!

Cheers

Roboy Awakening by Arden 2017-08-02T00:19:17Z

I really loved this game!! Great job on the art, the mood, and the gameplay. The game is really solid, and I'm happy I've had a chance to play it.

Some bugs I noticed: I ended up running into a bug where you are underneath the floating platforms, and if they come down on your head or you jump upward into the bottom, you get stuck to the platform and cannot get off unless you press the k button to drain all your juice.

Also, I'm unsure why the game was asking me to press A at first, which I couldn't get to work, but after loading it 3 times it turned into K, which made it so I could play. Was it the 'A' key?

I wasn't able to get to the end yet. There's a rectangular laser obstacle that I found pretty difficult. Thanks for sharing this game, and I hope it gets a lot of attention :D

HE BEAT HER. by Angela He 2017-08-17T02:07:00Z

Beautiful work on this game! I had a great time playing it... I think I figured out a pretty cool ending so I'm happy with my experience. The game really makes you feel like a sleuth... fun!

Power Stealer by Anatei 2017-08-03T16:39:53Z

Great job on this game! I love the level design progression and how it shows you how to use the mechanics. I really enjoyed sapping power from enemies...

Flastronaut by Bill Zeng 2017-08-02T05:49:38Z

i actually got swarmed by ghost and my flashlight was whisked away! really fun though, I loved watching the Flastronaut recharging animation.

Saito's Transgression by Kapricorn Media 2017-08-02T05:19:45Z

Beautiful game. I really enjoyed the artwork and the mood of the experience.

The Torches Are Burning Low by Didactylos 2017-08-02T04:38:17Z

I really enjoyed the graphics. However, I found the difficulty to be quite hard -- the lights go out pretty fast, and I exhausted the first power consumable and got into a pretty sticky situation in the dark. One super nice touch: one time when I went through the spikes and got caught right at the last second the character expressed disappointment about how I had almost cleared them. It seemed like it acknowledged what I was doing.

The Last Question by Terribly Awesome Games 2017-08-02T05:39:00Z

@martintristan

Thanks for the input. We'll look into getting that corrected. Glad you've enjoyed it so far, and hope you'll make it to the end :-)

The Last Question by Terribly Awesome Games 2017-08-02T15:24:25Z

@wesley-werner Thanks for the input on resolution! We have it restricted right now to 1200 x 900 because we didn't put in the ability to change resolution yet. We will finish that up soon and post a new build. We tried to get that in but it didn't make it in by the end of the jam! :)

The Last Question by Terribly Awesome Games 2017-08-02T22:28:59Z

@kapricorn-media Thanks guys, we really like your work and appreciate the comment! If you have any critical comments about how we could improve the gameplay or art, we'd love to hear them.

The Last Question by Terribly Awesome Games 2017-08-17T03:37:31Z

Thanks all of you for your input, especially the critiques of the gameplay. And thanks so much to @blootrix for playing our game... We're so glad you enjoyed it and were so thrilled to watch your let's play. We look forward to watching other of your videos...!!!

The new build we posted will hopefully make the experience even better. It has text that will stay on screen, and it can also be played at multiple resolutions (in standalone) as long as it stays to a 4:3 ratio.

Wave by logiraffe_shawn 2017-08-02T04:49:39Z

I loved the mood and ambiance of this game! I liked the ending, but I wondered if it could have been expanded upon just a bit to explain more.

Space Bear Panic by Chris Coe 2017-08-04T04:30:28Z

This was a great take on the theme and a good concept in general. It was fun running around welding doors and just being a pixel polar bear :)

Super Power Frenzy by AlexanderTeaH 2017-08-04T03:25:08Z

I found Power Frenzie to have a steep learning curve, which I still haven't gotten the hang of yet, but nonetheless still really fun. Great music and art as well.

My criticism may be that the max speed your ship quickly goes to seems to be out of scale with the size of the arena. Perhaps this is just because I still haven't gotten the hang of it as I said, but it's an observation.

Really cool game though.

Spaceship Rescue by cybersoftuk 2017-08-02T04:21:05Z

I enjoyed your gameplay a lot, and I thought it was unique! I liked the slotting of the spaceships into the correct place, but sometimes I felt like I wanted to be able to see the correct lanes better (often the obstacles were so far off it was hard to line it up until the last second).

Smash ball by Sivael 2017-08-02T04:39:49Z

What I liked:

I think the concept is inherently fun. Destruction is always gratifying.

I like the Jenga-esque physics of the towers

What I think can improve:

You might consider using some non-orthogonal bounding geometry (not a box) such as bowl or half pipe so that you can gain speed and take curves better.

The textures on the towers could vary in color and material so that different one are easier and harder to knock down.

Overall an interesting thing!

Powerless: Trump Teaches Typing by RootPew 2017-08-04T03:47:28Z

Fantastic.

There's No Place Like Home by Remzo 2017-08-04T00:21:45Z

I was going to say "gorgeous graphics", but I'm not sure how helpful that would be given that I'm sure you know this already since everyone is saying it. But it's true - gorgeous graphics, really makes the game a pleasure to play when combined with the cool sound effects.

I found the game slightly difficult, and a few of the animations, such as grabbing the plug and seeing what appeared to be the power cable breaking were slightly confusing. But overall this is one of my favorites visually so far.

There's No Place Like Home by Remzo 2017-08-04T03:31:54Z

I also really like the way you made the asteroids. Just now noticing that they are spheres inside rotated cubes. Really cool.

Flask of Destruction by Melowicyan 2017-08-03T16:51:49Z

I really enjoyed playing this game! The graphics were very nice, and I enjoyed being able to make units and predict what I would need for an encounter. More feedback would have been useful to the strategy (about what enemy and army units do). Overall, awesome effort!

LD45 — Start with nothing

TwT by OddballDave 2019-10-26T05:28:38Z

I felt sad when my tribbles died! But I liked the research mechanic. It would be cool if you had some sort of visual of how many tribbles are in the cage (like the actual creatures running around). Really awesome effort for the compo!

Soundmarine by Dustyroom 2019-10-08T20:09:03Z

Ah! Wow you are the maker of Empty too!? Gosh, your games and art are so amazing. Do you have a website? Thanks for your contribution to another Ludum Dare. Unfortunately I haven't been able to play Soundmarine because of the bug on mac. Please fix, this game looks incredible!

Election Simulator 2019 Island Edition by smbe19 2019-10-17T01:21:07Z

Very much enjoyed the premise of the game! I had a hard time getting it to work consistently. Worked first time I loaded it on itch.io, then if I refreshed or reloaded the page, all I would see is a black screen.

Pocketon Peak by bwalter 2019-10-08T18:32:08Z

I tried to play this on my Windows 7 PC and it crashes immediately on startup. Perhaps it isn't supported on my computer! Looks like a lot of fun though.

Beet-hoven by jamioflan 2019-10-17T00:48:19Z

I thought this was so fun, and I really liked the puzzle aspect of having to identify the notes and colors and find the vegetables. (Also wanted 4 note customers!)

The Choice of Life: Middle Ages by Xakkar 2019-10-08T19:58:55Z

Really neat idea. I love the hand painted art and cohesive graphic style. It seems very well polished for a jam game. Great job!

Terra Farma by alobker 2019-10-29T16:02:55Z

So awesome that you did this from scratch! Awesome work on the farming mechanic as it stands, and I really like the art that you picked out for the game. I do agree with other comments that the movement needs a bit of improvement, and it's somewhat difficult to figure out how to water the plants. I eventually figured out that you just need to sleep the first night, though, and then the plants need water after that (when they get the drop over the top of them).

Nothing Left by goudagames 2019-10-26T05:06:23Z

I really enjoyed this, but I didn't get all the way to the end where I could get a city. I found it really hard to find the people who would give me apartments! Loved the graphics and loved the audio, it was a good backdrop to the experience.

Solar Grid by svntax 2019-10-24T22:41:26Z

Really loved the graphics and concept for this game, and really enjoyed the audio too! However, I think the destruction sound effect was a bit too loud. I found it hard to get used to the controls and the gameplay, but I could see how it'd be really fun with more balancing and seems really well geared to a tablet.

Fish Launderette by oskanberg 2019-10-25T03:38:48Z

I love the physics on the cords, and the art was quite charming! Ended up stretching some of my cords to get to the machines! Would love to see this as a touch and drag sort of game on the tablet.

Deer Game by kantieno 2019-10-29T15:22:52Z

I really enjoyed the personality test to determine your powers, and the art and animation was wonderful! One of my powers seemed pretty hard to use in the boss battle. I had the one that went along the ground, and the stone toss. The stone toss seemed like the only useful power against the boss.

Rubber Duck Genesis by Rayne 2019-10-08T20:03:00Z

Loved the symbols and enjoyed how you captured the concept of atoms/information bouncing together at the beginning of the universe!

Hubcap Pup by Terribly Awesome Games 2019-10-08T18:51:44Z

Thanks for everyones' feedback! We are trying to fix the bug on the camera. Hopefully we'll be able to get things to where the ground is visible at the end. We do plan to keep working on this game. It's actually based on a series of stories that my father told me growing up. Cheers!

Nanna Memories by LillyByte 2019-10-22T15:43:56Z

I really enjoyed the puzzle aspect of trying to figure out where everything went, but it was hard to place things vertically (had to retry on the stove several times, and I was unsure if I got the placement of the other aspects right). I got a 71% though! I realized that at the end you could leave through the door that you originally couldn't. Neat idea, and I liked the dialogue a lot.

When Nothing Came by velvetlobster 2019-10-08T17:59:03Z

This was a really evocative project. I like the concept of "interactive poetry". I appreciate that you were able to craft a contained experience in the course of a single weekend, as it can be hard to know how much to realistically expect to accomplish in terms of scope. The art and music were both very good as well. Bravo! My constructive criticism would be related to ease of finding your way through the game. I had to rove back and forth and then got hung up trying to find the ending. Overall great experience though.

Greta Thunberg's Planet Converter by celmer89 2019-10-24T23:38:33Z

I really enjoyed messing around with this, and your choice of audio made for a nice experience even though it wasn't your own original track. The title cracked me up from the beginning. Nice feedback with the sound effects and camera effect when the asteroid collides with the planet. Really cool game!

Cutey Berry by sylvie 2019-10-17T01:02:12Z

The art for this game is lovely! When the cats follow you around it's so cute! It seemed a bit difficult for me to control the cats and jump on them, but I got better the more I played.

Tagatorni by lilou_cormic 2019-10-25T02:36:10Z

This was a really fun game and I really enjoyed the strategy with the placement of weapons. I think I came up with a prevailing strategy by the end of a few rounds. I would love to see this on phone or tablet !

Baryon Asymmetry by Flying Dog Fish 2019-10-08T18:32:44Z

What's more perfect for the LD 45 theme than a game about the cosmic origin of the universe? It was a really fun game. I found it challenging however. I wish that when negative and positive particles collided, they would subtract the difference between their two sizes. In other words if I work to build up a large positive particle and it completely vanishes when it hits a small negative particle, I think it would be better if it just left the remainder behind. Overall good job though!

Force of Nature by RedZ0ner 2019-10-22T19:02:33Z

I really like this idea, and I think I'd enjoy playing it! However, I can't seem to get the drag and drop to work properly. The artwork is nice and I also like the animations of the people running around. Great concept for 3 days!

Ships, Sharks and Shanties by Grangerer 2019-10-08T18:13:41Z

This was a very fun game, almost reminiscent of a mini-game from Mario Party or something. I enjoyed the mechanics a lot and played it over and over. My constructive criticism would be it might benefit from a way to see you were damaged by arrows/sharks. I assumed I was getting hit, but there's no visual way to see it. Overall great job though!

Scrawl A Draw by rdcooper 2019-10-08T19:51:03Z

Fantastic music. May I ask what your workflow is like for composing a piece like that?

God Complex by Fupi 2019-10-08T19:21:20Z

Really cool concept done well. I could see this being a fun game on mobile, perhaps worth developing further. Bravo!

Sticky Squares by Friedrich Eibl 2019-10-29T16:16:26Z

The concept for the game is quite nice, and I could see this game being popular with more polish! It was refreshing to see an android game! I thought at first I was supposed to get the green squares, but then I died because I had them? Seems like the red ones would be the bad ones? Tried replaying multiple times to figure out what the red cubes did, but they didn't appear again.

Murder On Peacock Street by Seabird 2019-10-08T19:44:02Z

Very unique game! I enjoyed how imaginative and funny it was. I found it kind of difficult to know what I could interact with. Maybe you could add a feature where when you mouse over objects that you can interact with, they will highlight or something. Overall great job!

Our Last Chance by Rollersteaam 2019-10-24T22:03:01Z

Really enjoyed the shooting visual and sound effect and the way that the hit points were tallied on the enemy! Also, great choice of colors for your scene. I thought it was somewhat difficult to play because I couldn't see the enemies most of the time -- when they were on screen, it seemed like they were already too close to you.

Farm for your life by Cindynator 2019-10-08T19:17:02Z

Great job on the cutscene and camerawork -- really cracked me up!! Having to track all the crops, money, and your health ends up challenging and fun.

Return to Civilization by Dave Anders 2019-10-22T15:32:59Z

Love the art style for this game! Really beautiful work with the assets and the isometric grid. I also enjoyed the narration and audio. I had difficulty navigating and finding the ship parts, but this is a really good concept piece of the world you're trying to create. I wasn't sure if when I went through the portal (arrow) that I got more insane, or if I just ate a mushroom when I landed.

Don't Stop by analytical_spoon 2019-10-29T16:09:29Z

Really great prototype! Good job with the animation states and the mechanic of the disappearing platforms and wind columns! I couldn't jump at first, so I think I gained the ability from one of the orbs? I thought the art for this was really cute, and I enjoyed the various abilities you seemed to gain over time. The player seemed to move a bit too fast, so when I got the ability to jump with spacebar, I kept missing my jumps because I couldn't control how fast I was running very easily.

Collect Recyclables by possatti 2019-10-08T18:46:07Z

Wow, that's awesome how you calculated the trash pile! The cart started going backwards at one point, but thankfully it returned to moving forward after my pile flipped to that side. Also -- I got to $7.14, so I feel triumphant. Great job and a lot of fun!
