cool game, nice atmosphere, the mouse move was a bit sensitive for me but quality graphics, liked the dialog style. Impressed that you got it done in time for the compo, well done.
added to my list of games to play when my finger's have recovered.. Love the first screenshot!
wow, the hand-drawn graphics are great and the game fits the theme well.
any chance of a browser build (if it's unity i mean)? looks really good! I like the PCB trees! cool idea
thanks man, music wasn't mine but i think it fits. To be fair, i got the idea of the double spaceship while trying to come up with game ideas before the theme was announced (i was gonna do something similar for Parallel World). Anyway, the obstacles have gaps in, the nav system finds and highlights a path through with enough distance for both ships. Spacebar to fire the "Fire Blast",shields are collected and applied automatically and SlowMo's add a half second to the time between spawning obstacles (constantly rising) so effectively slowing the game down a little. thanks for playing, liked the selfie game too.
thanks, given the time i could have explained it a bit better(i think it's the gaps that are off putting), originally it was supposed to be one or more pathways (multiple routes through the obstacles) but after highlighting the path for testing i decided i decided i like them highlighted. Burgee, you may have been getting too many slow mo's because it does get quite fast near the end, thanks all for playing!
thanks, i find when playing it i switch to looking at one ship more than the other for alignment depending on if the pathways are more to the left than the right, it makes lining in up easier on the grid.
thanks guys. The rewards (Shield, Slow Motion, Fire Blast Unit) are randomly selected on a fixed interval (Fire Blast units 2x more often) and i think that each session i get results that sway towards more of the same item, i think this might be the way the random numbers are chosen, i would have liked a better random number generator. @obidubi sounds like you had a lack of Slow Motion rewards..
yeah, it can be difficult to line everything up, i find that switching your view between both spaceships helps and you usually find one ship to be easier to line up depending on which side of the screen you are leaning more towards (which i actually like - darting left/right with your eyes, two points of reference to check), i would say it is due to the ships being 3D cubes and a static position on the camera so the view of the ships change and certain angles are more difficult to line up on the grid than others but it is a reactionary speed based game, thanks for playing, much appreciated.
thanks man, yeah i agree but that was the concept really, two positions to check. I originally designed everything for a 4:3 screen (not sure why i thought the web version couldn't go full screen) so the HUD was bigger before i decided to scale the screen to a 16:9 (stretched 90% of the width - looked much better) but scaling the UI in unity didn't look right (the text was off) and i didn't have the time to re-create it, so i left it original. The HUD didn't take too long (it's kinda basic, i'm just glad i took off the crappy icons from the tutorial screen) but i like the way it turned out (aside from the scaling..). We all have those in different areas, that's why i like the idea of these jam's. Thanks for checking my game out.
Thanks a lot for feedback from everyone who played it, it's much appreciated! See you all on the next one!
cool game, nice idea, i take it it's procedurally generated?
hey, game looks amazing! But on ITCH (for me at least) the full screen button isn't there and part of the screen is hidden (maybe the container size)?
@arzi yeah sure, i'm using Chrome, Win10, 1600x900
container_issues.png
Looking forward to playing!
really funny! nice graphics, good use of sounds and music. i couldn't find my heart (i looked for over 5 minutes) - might have another go at it later. pretty polished for the time we had, well done!
Wow! Impressive aesthetics, the lighting and blurring mixed with the music creates a really nice mood and that first explosion/fireworks that lights the scene up - very cool!
Great track, nice simple low poly environment works really well!
I liked this, it's an interactive music video of sorts, layering the track off of the orbs collected, very creative!
Well Done!
Very cute, fun little game, even though i love the graphics (especially the grayscale) i couldn't figure out what each item actually was but i got there in the end (a description would be nice on the hints screen):
Bake Em All.png
I set up a pen each for the chick and the cow and used these on a table close by to the delivery truck to make waffles, saved up for a wind mill and then bought a stove (great animation btw), i'm not sure why i can sell a waffle for 100 and if i cook it it's still 100 (guess people want to cook them themselves or i can add something to the waffle?). I made the bread and cooked it, pretty cool. I made a sweet of some kind but still trying to figure out how to make pizza and muffins!
Perkerk..!
Nice entry - Well Done!
Loved this game! It is intuitive and simple to play, you pick up the tricks quickly, i thought i had it covered but then i let the food icon flash a little too long.
9-days.png
Really like the artwork, very polished game-play - well done!
Awesome Game! Had a lot of fun playing this. I love the simplistic style and the punch animation is pretty cool! I would definitely play more levels of this. That last checkpoint was so far away.. haha red_escape.png
really cool concept, i love breakout and this is a nice spin on that. Really enjoyed playing it but kept getting the same bug after "multi-ball" power, it hides the next ball, the arrow can be pulled out but not released for shooting (tried reset). But 12hrs work - this is amazing! Well Done!
revelator_bug.png
pretty cool, the music fits really well, nice simple graphics. Well done!
Love the title and love the title screen - really cool! I found it too hard to control my paws on moving platforms and dashing over gaps, died too many times (maybe iv'e been lapping up too much of the pink stuff) but the concept is great and very cute, cool music too. I hope you polish the controls/movement speed a bit.
It was worth dying to see that spawn animation again! Really cool and music was great too! Well done!
Wow! This game is very polished, the artwork and the animations are fantastic, the music is spot on too, creates a great mood, the game is really fun to play. I would like to be able to see what cards i have (stamina, enlightenment etc..) by hovering over them as you have to keep opening the book when weighing up the best step to take. (I kinda want to see inside the biscuit temple!)
Great Solid Entry - Well Done!
Best audio track iv'e heard so far that was made for the jam, really cool!
Really cool game - it's one of those you can play while you listen to music! I really hope your third uncles roommate doesn't mind you using his story!
I think i found a bug (correct me if i'm wrong though), after leveling up on the prestige (spending my hard earned gold) it seems as though now i'm not getting 2x pieces of shiny gold per every enemy slaughtered (+ a modifier which is what i imagined i was trading them in for) but now it takes 3-4 enemies killed to get 2x gold? Is this right? Because that is A LOT of potatoes!
Get The Potatoes - Possible Bug.gif
Otherwise, really fun game (i love interface games)
Wow! I will be honest, i am not a big fan of platformers (because i suck at them!) but this game was awesome, really creative, fits perfectly with the theme, i'm not sure what it was about the graphics but the simplicity and the desaturated coloring felt relaxing, the music was top notch, it was actually pretty funny and i was able to get to the end!
nothing(16 deaths).png
Awesome entry! Well Done!
Initially drawn in by the great artwork, so simple so effective, the game is really fun to play and i like how difficult it is to multi-task and make use of only 2x inventory slots, music really fits too, not sure how many nights there are because i died which i didn't mind (awesome game over screen). I will be playing this again!
Wow! Love the neon pixel art style and the CRT monitor adds to the effect nicely, the music fits really well, but i did struggle to figure out what to do but got there in the end, a label for each component could help too, apart from that really cool game! well done!
Thanks @velvetlobster, i just finished playing "When Nothing Came", it was very innovative - thanks for playing!
@fictions thanks, i think the artwork challenge was the most simple but turned out really well (considering the time i had), if i get chance i would like to add a bigger grid, more colours and some more complicated frames.
thanks @tohubohu, yeah there was supposed to be more focus on that timer and to make you feel like you are fighting against it but i didn't have enough time to create more complex time consuming challenges so i had the timer spread over a few minutes, this was also the idea behind the energy levels too (not really implemented..), to pull you away from what you are doing (a little maintenance). i'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for checking it out!
@cdunham the coding puzzles (at the moment) are snippets for SQL queries, so it is a case of finding out which table_name, field_name(s) are needed to be queried (from the clues and help button), checking for any spelling mistakes and replacing the code (like bug fixes). I didn't want to make it too complex or to lean to any particular programming language so i chose SQL.
an example of the solution for **Code Challenge #1**:
** string sql = "SELECT item_name FROM Inventory WHERE item_type = 'weapon' "; **
In the original idea i wanted to have more modules and much more challenges within them, and the ludum dare timer making it very difficult to finish everything 100%, so players could choose which modules to focus their time on.
Thanks for playing!
@jonas-michael sorry you got frustrated, there is a help button in the top right that hints towards what the query is supposed to achieve but i suppose there could be a little more explanation of how the puzzle works.
Yes, the energy depletion (snacks/sleeping and crashing out) unfortunately i didn't have enough time to finish. Thanks for checking out the game!
@nick-parry
ok, i will try to explain it better, it's simply a case of reading the code (and the hints in the bottom left of the screen, plus the hints in the help button - top right) and modifying the code on the screen to fix the bug:
** ORIGINAL CODE **
** ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ **
``` CONN.OPEN();
LIST
STRING SQL = "SELECT BLANK FROM INVENTORRRRY WHERE SOMETHING = 'SOMETHING_ELSE' ";
USING (SQLITEDATAREADER READER = CMD.EXECUTEREADER()) { WHILE (READER.READ()) { WEAPONS_LIST.ADD( READER["ITEM_NAME"].TOSTRING()); } }
CONN.CLOSE(); ```
** ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ **
Pay attention to this part of the code:
STRING SQL = "SELECT **BLANK** FROM **INVENTORRRRY** WHERE **SOMETHING** = '**SOMETHING_ELSE**' ";
An SQL SELECT statement is designed to query a database and the main structure is:
** SELECT FIELD_NAME FROM TABLE_NAME WHERE FIELD_NAME = 'some_text' **
e.g ** SELECT PRODUCT_NAME FROM STORE_PRODUCTS WHERE PRODUCT_TYPE = 'HAT' ** this should select all the hats from the database and return the name of the product for them.
So we can see that in the original code above, the SELECT statement is missing some information and there is one misspelling:
- ** BLANK ** = ITEM_NAME (as the help tells you we want a list of weapon names and is also included at the bottom of the code when it's being added to the list from the search results) - ** INVENTORRRRY ** = INVENTORY - ** SOMETHING ** = ITEM_TYPE (listed in the help description) - ** SOMETHING_ELSE ** = 'WEAPON'
So, select the item_name(s) from the inventory table where the item_type is listed as a 'weapon' (or select all weapons from the the inventory table and list their names i.e sword, crossbow, hammer etc..)
so the code to solve the challenge would be:
** --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** ``` CONN.OPEN();
LIST
STRING SQL = "SELECT ITEM_NAME FROM INVENTORY WHERE ITEM_TYPE = 'WEAPON' ";
USING (SQLITEDATAREADER READER = CMD.EXECUTEREADER()) { WHILE (READER.READ()) { WEAPONS_LIST.ADD( READER["ITEM_NAME"].TOSTRING()); } }
CONN.CLOSE(); ``` ** --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **
Sorry if it's confusing!
Thanks for playing!
@psiv Thanks for the feedback, yes, i realise not everyone here is programmer but i wanted the modules (mini-games) to feel like something very similar to the work you would be doing on that section in a real game jam (rather than just clicking) and if coding was not the players strong suit they could work on the other modules as the original plan was not to allow the player enough time to finish all modules (like a real game jam) and they would have to decide what to focus on, sadly the time constraints meant i only had a few quick puzzles to throw in and the energy levels and countdown timer isn't 100% so that doesn't really come across.
Syntax highlighting would be a great idea and someone also suggested a clearer font which in hindsight would have been better for the code challenges.
@bootak Thanks, I was thinking of a dope sheet style mini game for the music where you have a reference piece of music, a bunch of sounds and you have have to slot them into the right place for the right amount of time, starting and finishing, to re-create the sound (e.g the sound that might be in your head when you brainstorm music ideas for your game)
The idea behind the dev log posts was about getting a higher audience score when your game is uploaded (i.e more exposure) but it would come at a sacrifice of time (like sleeping was supposed to..)
@wojciech-bruski haha - yeah i still haven't calmed down since the jam ended!
@flying-dog-fish exactly - that is why i chose the SQL as it was the easiest to implement (basically strip down and compare to a master string) rather than having to write an interpreter, so an SQL SELECT came to mind as it is a small one liner where you fill in the missing blanks.
Thanks to everyone who has checked out the game so far!
@harksa Thanks
@pixamentory @jihem @solah @asfdfdfd Thanks very much for your feedback!
@lars-erik I was hoping to implement a better way of doing the whole coding mini-game that would allow players to write their own code and as long as the solution matches the desired result it would pass but i really didn't have time for that, although thanks for the lexer/parser idea.
I did see the other entry, it seems to have done very well, it had the end result i wanted with the scoring for the players project.
Thanks!
@eduardo-yukio Thanks for the feedback, the things you didn't like were things that i tried to get finished within the time limits but ran out (nature of the game jam) but i am actually working on a post jam version, as and when i can. The food is now available (in the form of sandwiches) and the energy levels are now fully implemented (you are right about the progress/percentage bars - but they now work)
The music module i held off on as i wanted to go with a better idea than i had at the time so that screen as well as the LD posts were deliberately blanked off.
It's great to hear you liked the rest of the game and the main concept - thanks!
Nice concept, fits the theme fairly well, can you change the direction of the thrusters before you add them to your ship or are you stuck with the orientation that they come in? the music fits really well, nice job!
Really nice idea, unlocking/adding in the game elements as you manage to stay alive, its a fun game.
Looks great, nice sound - a bit difficult for me, i really like the character animation - well done!
Nice low poly world, great colours, the sound was good too - nice overall mood but i felt really cruel about punching those bananas!
punchpunchfarm.png
* plus it was hard to find this LD page - you should drop a link into your itch page!
Great art style - eerily spooky mood, i love animation at the beginning running through the halls and out into the open - very nice! Unfortunately i suck at games like this so i wasn't able to get to the finish i think i died about 7x times though. Great entry - well done!
Funniest game i've played this LD so far, the music sounds like the music from SHAFT and somehow that makes it funnier!
I did find it really hard though, one problem i noticed was i kept getting stuck in door ways if i wasn't perfectly in the center, and this made my unmentionables mention-able, so little wider on the doors would be good. I would also benefit from being able to scour the area with the mouse, just so i know where i am going.
Other than that it seems a pretty well polished game and the artwork is really nice! If this became a habit with these 3x delinquents (like every weekend for a bet), i could see this spreading into other locations, a mall or a swimming baths maybe. Awesome game! Well done!
This is such an innovative idea being able to draw your characters and parts of the story while listening to a story although it does make it difficult when you have to draw the person before you know who it is and take a chance, the music fits nicely and the background art is spot on. well done on the voice acting!
Cool game! Very polished, nice artwork, especially liked the opening sequence with the bartender, just hoping that he 'was' washing glasses? I really like the animations on the end screen
Rottenville.gif
Cool Game! Well Done!
Really nice, simple but effective artwork, i like the fact that clicking the words reveals new parts of the scene (very innovative) - well done
Wow, humming the aesthetics and the opening scenes, really nice! Not sure if it's suppose to go full-screen but wish it would. It's a shame there is a time limit on the story and asking the right questions but it seems intentional with the focus on the clock in the opening sequence and i don't mind giving it a second (or third) spin, it looks great and the story was just getting juicy. The music adds to the mood too, simple and not too noticeable in a loop. Awesome entry! Well Done!
Really cool, i liked the simple colours and overall graphics style it helped to create a nice mood. Great UI too. Overall, pretty polished! Well done!
"Bro!, You Got This!, yeah.." muscle_typer.png
haha funny concept!
Excellent Entry! The artwork is great, the music really fits, really fun to play, with all of the upgrades you buy each pickpocket session is a little easier. This is very polished considering the time, well done!
Pretty cool game idea, fits the theme well too. I like the artwork, very polished overall, Nice!
Awesome idea - very innovative! I like terminal and hacking games, this was short lived but great fun! Well done!
The music is fantastic - really fits and feels eerily haunting. Those particle effects are great, i enjoyed trying to get the objects to smash together to form bigger ones. Nice entry!
I didn't manage to become 'sneeter famous' but i love interface games, i like the look of the game and its pretty innovative, well done!
Damn! My face is aching from the stress (i love it!). These puzzles are excellent, the way you introduce the logic is really well done, i like it when games do this.
Finally got to the last level: Cipher_last_level.png
I'm wondering how you generated these puzzles and whether you used a GA of some kind to generate and rate the difficulty to give you the levels or whether you are just a puzzle wizard?
The graphics style is top notch too, i really like these old style CRT UI's.
My only gripe with this game is when you fail and it removes the blocks you had set and you have to start from scratch (but granted it adds to the memory part of the game).
This is the best puzzle game i have played since TIS-100.
Excellent job!
This game is awesome, i love the setting and the art work is great! Nice music too. It is difficult to figure out but i managed to hit 2/4 on the ones i tried, when you do create a successful potion i feel like writing them down, so if you are able to unlock a page in a little notebook that would show the potion, the ingredients used and the effects or something along those lines, that would be great.
I hope you carry on with this game and add some more variety to the requests (you chose some great ingredients and i think the descriptions are spot on) the only problem with experimenting is that you are giving the player restrictions on money which could mean that you cannot carry on - but then there has to be a penalty for getting it wrong as well as reward for remembering the right ingredients. Discovering the recipe by playing around when you have some basic knowledge is better than the whole thing being provided in my opinion like Z:BOTW's cooking, it makes logical sense but you can easily end up with "Dubious Food", so maybe just beef up the descriptions.
Great entry - surprisingly fun!
The character looks great - and the punching animation too, i managed to get to the store, turned out is was closed but hey it was fun to play!
FishQuest2.png
I'm not sure how he's gonna drag 79 bottles of soda back home over those platforms though!
Loved the art style, and the music too.
Really liked this! I didn't understand what to do at first even with selecting the little guy but figured it out ("Yes!"), the game's pretty fun to play, i like the simple graphics and the sounds are nice, i served most customers but ended up with mostly negative notoriety for unhappy/unsatisfied customers where i had ran out of produce, not sure what the rate is there?. it might be nice if you could hire workers (at a cost of course) that would help you gather more supplies within the time you have as i find i have to wait even though i have the buildings in place. overall really nice game that was surprisingly fun to play!
Great art style - ended up with "Doja" and a book - well done!
I really liked the artwork!
nice entry, seems very polished and solid but i'm useless at scrabble style games although i gave it a good go (i couldn't get to level 10), a way to clear the level and start again would be nice (unless i missed it), it fits the theme well (you literally start with N,O,T,H,I,N,G), well done!
Very nice mood, simple platformer but very polished, i found it difficult with no checkpoints but was fun to play, the sound is great - nice entry! Well Done!
(I enjoyed your making of video too - it's nice to see behind the scenes)
Loved the art style - really well done! I guess i wouldn't last very long out on the street ("p*ss off jerk!").
wow, the artwork is amazing!, really nice overall aesthetics, the sound was good too, i didn't understand the buying/selling part until later but a really cool idea, i could see this as a bigger longer game. I didn't expect cute bunnies to steal my coins (cheeky!). The underwater world was cool too but i wanted to be able to swim like mario as i suck at jumping and landing with a keyboard. Great game really enjoyed it! well done!
I initially clicked to see the pixel art not expecting much but it was quickly satisfying and relaxing, great use of the music too, those animations are spot on!
Graphics and music are spot on! Love the pixel art of the opening scene! Well done!
