Path of Excess: Hoarder vs Horde by quill18 2018-08-19T18:04:52Z
Had fun for the first 8 levels. Well done for 48 hrs. Maybe a bit too many numbers and wee few features. ;)

Had fun for the first 8 levels. Well done for 48 hrs. Maybe a bit too many numbers and wee few features. ;)
Made me giggle. :D
Really well done. Could do with a few more options when docked, but overall quite impressive for compo!
I laughed good. Nice fifties postgirl. Dunno if the pickup was necessary. When they stacked so you couldn't just push stuff out anymore, it basically got impossible to pickup, move up and then push. If there was some throw mechanism, I guess it would be possible to keep playing. But again, I guess winning is kind of out of the question with the theme this time. ><
Too bad you didn't have time. Looks like a solid game idea, but dragging and dropping was quirky at best and gameplay is a big question mark. Keep up the good work. :)
Great job! Managed to stick with it for three quarters of my pizza. :) Nice pixels and music, and enjoyable timelapse. Pretty much feature complete.
Nice gameplay! Had fun and giggles for a few levels. More annoying than fun in the long run, but overall very well put together given the time.
Cool idea. I got hooked, but for some reason I couldn't drop cars on the washing spot after buying a lot. Also the next button is off screen. Only tried the web version tho, might work fine in the win build. You should look into building a mobile version. Super game for crapper time. ><
Interesting idea. A few more actions and clearer concequences would be nice. Can defo. see some potential here.
Fun little game. I loved the sounds when the bricks hit the poor character. Felt sorry for it. >< Would've been nice to be able to scale the gfx. Was a bit small on my 3000x2000 screen.
Cool twist on the trad genre. Liked that it was "upside-down". Would be nice if the gfx would scale to the container tho. Peeps don't mind pixelated gfx these days. ;)
Interesting idea. Could be lots of fun with a few more challenges.
Fun lil' game. Easy mechanics and nice gfx + music. Got stuck, tho:
cybermind-stuck.png
Pretty nice clicker for 42 hrs. Well done!
Nice simple game. Would be nice to be able to resize / scale. Also I couldn't spot the timer. Would probably pay a buck to play this on mobile. :)
Doesn't work with my resolution I guess. 3000x2000 surface pro. :/
Here's what I see: great-patch-fail.png
I laughed hard when the ragdoll flew out the window. Brilliant! :) Also looks good, while the music was a bit annoying.
It's pretty and has nice music. I definitely think it can go somewhere. Although for now, reaching 1000 creds by crafting unknown things from seemingly incoherent parts for an unknown goal is not enough gameplay value. Defo has potential tho. Nice work.
I saw the inspiration from Into the Breach immediately. Could be really interesting, but I didn't give it enough time to figure if it was possible to win each time. Looked pretty random/impossible when I got to stage 2. Pretty strong concept though, keep working on the logic and it just might be a hit. Also quite feasible for mobile.
Really nice. The rapid growth was nasty! Probably needs a bit of balancing, but I guess as most games this time, the point is to lose. :) I liked that the shots bounced off like pool balls. Would be nice if you could kind of trick shot and hurt all tentacles. All in all, very nice submission!
I didn't quite get it. Laughed at the first impression, but otherwise ended up a bit "meh". Music was good tho.
@danny-sun Soz, I think I was too tired and didn't read the description well enough. I tried to aim, but I guess you auto aim at the closest? With the given scope it's a bit more fun. ๐
Cool game. Got 109. Took a short while before I realized it _wasn't_ just a remake of a classic but the walls are actually caving in. Nice touch. :)
Beautiful gfx and overall impressively done, even for jam. Loved it even tho I didn't make it through more than 6 planets. ><
Way too dark even with the lightswitch spoiled above. Should be easier to get started. Music was pretty nice to set the stage.
I guess you're supposed to just die? No controls for the chicken. :(
Sweet little game. I instinctively press D to move right and get super confused when A also moves me right. :P Fun little distraction. You should make a mobile build with tap to move. No big feature suggestions, but can see loads of potential.
Poor girl. I had her rocking once before I understood the mechanics. Darn rude peeps come and sit in the seat I just talked someone out of. >:( Nice entry!
Thanks. Yeah, I need to balance the start vs. finish a bit more. Gotta tweak some numbers. I doubt it will get more features, but it should "start" faster.
Balanced a wee bit. Should be faster to panic / reach point of game now.
@Noxalus I had to make the plasic higly toxic, huge, radio active and pretty nasty to kill enough animals in the 5 minutes you're supposed to play the game. Soz. :)
@rob-parker There's no music, only an effect when new plastic is thrown in the sea. But it makes kind of a rythm, so music-ish. :)
Thanks @chaitae. The house was thrown in in place if a black box saturday night. I agree it should be birdies instead. Next time! ๐
Thanks a lot, @jupiter-hadley. You've been retweeted. ;)
Beautiful little game. My wife actually pitched the idea to me on friday night, but I don't have nearly as good skills with 3D. Love the simplicity, yet it looks quite realistic. Totally love the fatality and dystopia.
The sounds alone are enough to come back to this wacky entry. ๐คฃ Good job!
Nice idea. A bit confusing how to figure which pieces is bombs. Also no idea how to progress to next level. ๐คฃ
Well put toghether puzzle. A bit of fiddling with the GUI and you have a nice little mobile game.
Impressively complete game for the jam. Was in awe at the gfx & choice of music. The pathfinding was a bit off and annoying, and a map would've reduced the feeling of grind. But all in all, very well done!
Cute little platformer. Took me a minute or two to get used to it. Missed health powerups, but figured I'd just jump my way to the end, and luckily the end boss was a wuss. ๐ Great job!
Controls seemed to be grid-based. Turned me off. At least in the browser-version. Otherwise seems like something that could be fun for a while. Interesting idea.
First game I've left three 5's for. Amazing feat to build this in the time given. Love the mechanics. I starve too much, so maybe some balancing is in order.
Given <3 though, I'd buy this on steam in a jiffy. ๐๐
Nice style and enjoyable premise. A bit too difficult to make the right jumps when you get to the slimeys or what-they-are.
Very smooth. Controls work pretty well. Love the 8-bit synths and style.
Well played. ๐๐ Something something about memory though...

Very nice! You should look into a proper lexer/parser thing for your programming interpretation. I got stuck trying to guess your "gold file" at the second coding challenge - trying several "valid" solutions. I any case, cool idea! Love it!
Did you see your counterpart? ๐ https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/45/ludum-dare-simulator
Very nice atmosphere, and ambitious take on branching stories. Loved the ambient music. :) I got rich, paid'em off and pissed off fairly quick, but might just return for another go. Well done!
Very nice style and feel. Had me until the stove. Must've been some placement issues there. Would be nice with an immediate indication you placed stuff right, including more forgiving margins. :)
Interesting and innovating gameplay. The time limit and unusual controls made the beginning too hard for me to bother long. But very well put together, and with balance it'll be a really nice little gem.
Promising prototype. :)
Nice idea. With some more mechanics and something to do with the planets it might be worth evolving. ๐
Well executed fighter. Had fun, but the trident guy was too tough. I think you could easily allow dodging backwards without making the game too easy. Fine submission in any case.
Seems very interesting. I couldn't figure out where to go in due time tho. Might be nice with a few more hints in the dialogue.
Two fives from me! What a beautiful little game! Took a while to figure the different interactivites and having to go back and forth again. It was _almost_ not bothersome, so just a wee bit of tweaking will make it magic. Loved the entire idea and execution. Again - beautiful! ๐
Very nicely put together. May definitely return to this to finish the story. Only thing to wish for is a clear indication of how many hours one would need. ๐
Nice music and general setup. The minigames were too week to keep me going. (Time) Very interesting concept. With balanced difficulty and "getting started" bits this could really rock.
Loved this. Took me right back to Spore, but with an interesting twist to keep the micro level interesting. Had some adrenaline for a while there. Good job! ๐๐
Very solid little game. A bit unclear how/why the other elements than the protecting one stay or go. Also only seemed to indicate direction of next event some of the times. Otherwise, pretty darn good game design. ๐๐
Super well executed! Hat off and all that. Overall 5/5! ๐ I do presume you've played all of Zachtronic's games? Otherwise you're in for a treat.
Got fired two times and gave up, but was quite intrigued for a little while there. Fun idea and well executed! ๐
@krjack Thanks, but I think we rather have a bug where the text keeps playing on the next server. ๐คฃ
@justicepro You're probably missing one action. If you bother, read the text on the third server again, then do something extra when you get home.
Thanks for the feedback! Very curious how/why some report crashes. ๐ฎ
@evannex what device/browser?
@evannex Cheers! ๐
@justicepro @loudlout does the note help? https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/45/newborn-ai#note (nvm the "not working feature pop of ldjam ๐)
// rest thanks a lot for encouraging feedback. ๐๐
BTW @loudlout, I played hacknet a bit, but the biggest inspiration is uplink. ๐
@jusw85 you're right on all points. ๐ It's all due to time. Will hopefully evolve the game some time.
Thanks for the feedback, @finalforeach. I'm starting to get a sneaking suspicion about that input bug we've known about all along. ๐ค for time during the week-end. ๐
@velvetlobster thanks for the feedback. tab completion was easily downprioritized for the week-end deadline. in a full game if ever, maybe. ๐
@jonno I never completed Another World. Can't remember any terminals. But I could mention loads of other inspiration. ๐ (Fallout 1+2, Uplink, Gibson books etc.) Sorry about the crash. Haven't had time to reproduce. In any case, tnx a lot for feedback. ๐๐
5/5 mood for this. Not being able to strafe was a bummer. Otherwise nice little DOOM clone. Crazy sound! ๐๐
Nice overall feel for the game. Loved the music and gfx. Too bad you didn't have time to balance. Kinda' know the feeling. ๐
Very well executed. Timing and hit boxes as others mention could probably be polished a bit more, but overall a very good submission.
Awesome work for such a short time. Beautiful gfx. And that @#ยค%&! yellow chest. ๐
Very impressive compilation of features, gfx & sound for the time given. I still try to grasp the nature of the game. ๐ Too bad the controls were a bit off. A more forgiving jump might have helped. ๐คทโโ๏ธ Good job, tho.
Nice little puzzle. :)
Was interesting, but I fought the controls too much. Maybe mouse turning or at least some damping would've helped? Otherwise fun take on the compo.
This made me laugh good. Love the sound effects! ๐คฃ Well done!
Would be fun to see a larger more polished version make it.
Overall 5/5! And then what @humphreysmedia said. ๐คฃ
Merknad 2019-10-11 005307.png
Laughhed hard from jumping, then read instructions and got one point! \o/ Fun idea. With a small tutorial / helping intro it's a golden time killer for a little while.
Just a wee bit to hard for me, but jolly well done. I sat through way more levels than I intended to try out. ๐๐ Gave up at the level with the exit/mortuary signs. Might give it another shot some day.
Nice idea, but not sure the lack of gravity having you go all the way over the screen did the gameplay a favor. Maybe work on the controls a bit, then it could be quite fun. Give the little fellow a jetpack to brake with or something. ๐
Gameplay feels nice. However, dumb as I may be, I didn't find the axe. Might put something in there to guide the player. (Can't open doors, right?)
Really well put together. Died first night, but will return. Sounds was especially well done in the given time.
Nice little story. Would be nice with some tooltips when you select the final gift. I'd love to see this polished a bit with a fuller story. Could well be a nice interactive novel peeps would like.
I brought up the game and thought what the ****, another clicker! I thought you fooled us with the screenshots. Then I realized it's a clicker-boardgame-risk-rpg-adventure-strategy-fusion and got sucked in. Alas it crashed at the attacking stage.
Made me laugh and amused me properly. Well done! Polished, this might be a fine mobile game even.
Very nice overall design and intro. ๐ I concur with the non-skippable intro part. I'd play more if I didn't have to wait that long between each run. The rules say that you _can_ fix "things that doesn't work right" post submission. I think an "esc to skip intro" option would slide without question. ;)
I love typing games. ๐ This was a nice new twist to them all. Would love to see a more polished version, especially if it would teach some touch typing as well. Well done! ๐
Hilarious! I couldn't do the rock jumps tho, but I suck at platformers. Had quite a few good laughs.
Interesting idea, but my memory is too weak to memorize that many good steps. Figure out a mechanic to make the exploration work and it might just be a hit.
Love the theme. Played it a bit late yesterday, so might have done better when more awake. Felt that the progress was a bit too slow, like the game punished me all the time. Otherwise, as others have mentioned, nice depth and cool usage of dice. One of the better entries wrt. complexity and logic.
Interesting game concept. The dithering was a bit much for my taste. Agree with the others on a level concept. Could even be a quite good board game given some more thought.
Definitely have potential. I'm a sucker for hexagonals. With some more initial guidelines and goals I'm sure this would be addictive. Alas I just randomly wandered about, finally letting mobs kill me and got done with it. There's huge potential here though. Don't spoil it!
Very interesting idea. This can definitely go somewhere. Tho not sure if single-select units is a good gameplay choice. I kept trying to drag a rectangle around them all to move as a group. Besides that, I'd totally drop the descending synth and just keep the bass tho. Way to monotone. Otherwise very good job!
Of the games I've rated so far, this defo held me for the longest. (Tho I'm a sucker for eco sims & time mgmt) Got all animals, but you'll never keep me until 3k coins. My first fish already died. ๐ญ Very well done for the compo! H5!
Really nice gameplay in this one. Found the fourth level to hard for a quick run, but defo a very nice entry. The music was especially well made for compo. All in all very good job!
Super cool idea! Well done with the image comparison. Didn't quite get how or when the game would end since I passed 1k pretty fast. Very well done for compo.
CGOL! RIP! ๐ญ First game to get a full 5 overall from me. Great idea! Couldn't be bothered with level 7 and 8 tho, but might come back some evening. ๐
Cool idea. A bit of an overload of stats from start, but quickly got the hang of it. Think the sound could do with some normalization. Was very loud. Would be nice with something more than a red blink when engaged. I ended up dying in a "dangerous" area because I couldn't find food. Lost me a bit there. Would've played more given some more detail, but all in all well done for a compo entry!
There was absolutely nothing Zen about that experience, but fun idea. ๐ A bit too hard tho, didn't get past 20-25 flowers. Liked the snare and groove.
Interesting idea. Had no idea what I was doing or what the symbols meant, so I rage quit when audience started to leave. Think you might get away with improving the tutorial post compo deadline. Well done for a first entry tho.
LOL. Got a few flashbacks there. ๐ Would wish for some way to play without bashing asdf. No really good suggestions, tho. GJ!
Very nice execution, but maybe a bit unrewarding gameplay unless I misunderstood? But compo is compo, so well done. Would've loved to know what happened when I'd protected against enough meteors.
Very nice submission! Good GFX and music. With added levels and content, this could be a good hyper casual mobile thing. Had some definite flashbacks to Spore, but it's a new take and all that. ๐๐
Awesome puzzler and idea. Really thoughtful small animations as well. Loved the nostalgic music. Absolutely well done!
Took me way too long to figure I had to keep "jumping" to fly. With that knowledge it was an interesting challenge to be able to balance navigation with speed / pickups. Quite nostalgic music, reminded me of old time games. :) Well done for first compo!
Really nice entry! Love the art, sound and theme. I'm higher than average involved in the Umbraco CMS community, and the current effort of rewriting it from .NET Framework to .NET Core is called Project Unicore. So this game holds special value to me. Close to my heart! ๐โค๐๐ฆ Very nice entry!
Cool idea and important message. GJ!
High quality stuff all together. Well done! Got a bit monotone around wave 4, but for jam this was awesome.
@alphazeba know the feeling. ๐๐คทโโ๏ธ
Fun idea. Liked the ebb and flow effect of the water. Perfectly short for speed voting. :) 110 s. Would be even more ace if you had to harvest the trees.
@snesgaard Harvest for new torch. Seemed weird the torch got more to burn by just being near fire. Tho food would be fun too. Berry bushes?
Too much sausage! Fun take on roguelikes. Or is it porkuelikes?
@tic Thanks. All known issues. I think I'll take the liberty to fix the layout on different screens tonight. Sounds like you used the game in a resolution where the buttons are off screen. In spirit with the compo rules, I'll stick to that fix and leave the lousy attack on the sounds.
Super cute! :D Didn't manage to get to the end, but loved the idea and execution. Highest avg. rating so far.
Nice take on tower defence / king of the hill. Like the idea. Hitboxes can do with balance, but otherwise nicely done!
Nice design and gameplay idea. The Sims meet tower defence. ๐ Mobs came a bit too fast to handle, so died after a few minutes. But was the only game that actually gave me adrenaline so far.
Nice entry. For a while, I was convinced I had to keep "IT" in the middle. After reading the comments, at least I got to 7-8 words. :P Agree with others that making bigger words were pretty much suicide without reward. All in all very good submission, and high potential if gameplay can be sustained for longer with longer words.
Defo innovative idea. Liked it enough to get to lvl 6. You nailed the animations, sound and general feel of the little robot to suck me in for a while there. Jolly good job!
Super solid entry! Up there with @notch stuff. Got through the rainbow portal, but rage quit due to having to run too far back to stoke the fire all the time. Never the less, I was super impressed by this! Well done!
Really nice art and animation. My family will love this. Too bad I rage quit after dying from landed on an already fallen rock. ๐
This could defo go somewhere. Quite good for compo! Had some bugs with placement and struggled hitting mobs vertically. Also wasd + mouse only would be a better option for controls IMO. H5 for well executed compo entry tho.
Wow! Love the art style and execution! Super well done for compo. Awesome first submission. With some eerie music, this would be killer. Got a little flashback to Limbo, but still very original.
Comments indicate this should be fun. I must've put the blocks down wrong from the start. Got nullrefs and crashes after adding boxes pretty much on the left side, but baby spawned further left. Could do with a bit more intuitive start, I guess. Good effort for compo, tho!
Fun little project. Wish there was some growth or win scenario, I just had to let it die. Love the nostalgic music, tho it could defo have benefited from 8 or 12 bars with some variations. ๐ Very good job on gfx and animations, tho.
