Thanks for the feedback, @bjakubowski. Links added.
Amusing and short experience, I enjoyed it :)
hhhh
I'm hungry after playing this game
it's so funny!
Bug Report: I see two buttons on the start screen, but there isn't any text on them and if click on the second one, Nothing comes up.
I found the art kind of cute, not sure about the gameplay mechanic as there isn't much to think about, but it might be a good game for kids ?
The audio feels delayed, I think you need more attack on the sound the blob makes when it eats to make it work.
@tic Thanks. All known issues. I think I'll take the liberty to fix the layout on different screens tonight. Sounds like you used the game in a resolution where the buttons are off screen. In spirit with the compo rules, I'll stick to that fix and leave the lousy attack on the sounds.
Took me embarrassingly long to realize there was any strategy to it, but it was fun once I did.
Not bad, quite a funny game. Thanks for making the games list, it's helping me go from game to game easily.
Oh noe, my blob is going to take over the world!
I found this really charming, nice work :) I kind of want a hard mode where health decreases faster, and maybe maybe multiple axes of alignment. I also now know which foods are evil, good, and neutral. So it's an educational tool as well as a game!
Yes, it's a simple mechanic, but it works well, and it looks cool. The sound effects are the best bit, and it made me smile, so thank you!
Hey! What a super simple yet epic feeding game you made! When I realized which foods were doing what, I just started spamming them super quickly just to hear the chewing sound over and over again *slurp* It was pretty easy to win, so a little challenge could've done a bit for the game, but at least I was able to beat a LD game for once lol. The game also reminded me of Pou and gave me some nice nostalgia to 7 years back :')
I really hope you keep making these games, nice entry my dude. =)
Haha, So good! loved the sound effects. Game was less of a game and more of an LD Jam Participant simulator, I dig it though, great effort! Some background music would have made it a bit more enjoyable, and making the alignments have an effect would have brought the game to the next level I think.
@furtive-pygmy thanks! :) What kind of effects did you have in mind? I couldn't think of anything more than color, horns and halo.
@lars-erik Hmm... Maybe the food can change when your alignment changes, starts off like hotdogs and gradually gets down to eating garbage and McDonalds XD and vice versa.
lol i hadn't read the description and thought that bones always hurt the dude, so i was just feeding veggies until only bones were left to choose from. So, of course i fed him the bones and totally murdered him.
Well I should have read the description! I was able to get an angelic blob but my attempts at a devil blob didn't go so well due to some late game forced broccoli feeding.
Fun game, kind of regretted playing it with headphones on (got to listen to those sounds in their glory). Congratulations on finishing something given the even shorter time you had to make it.
Sound effects are definitely the best part! Enjoyed the nomming of my pet blob!
awesome sounds!
the burps and myams are hilarious :-)
to everyone else reading this: check out this awesome tool @lars-erik made: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/yab/yet-another-update-to-my-voting-tool-o
The sound effects and the animations are impactful! That nomming part is definitely the funniest part! Greato Jobu!
I like the animations and sound effects! It's cool how the blob is changing with every single thing he eats!
I wish there was a way to discard items without feeding it to him. It doesn't seem like there's any real strategy, you just feed it what RNG provides. I liked the design of the blob, and the angel / devil designs were nice. Good work!
@blobo thanks for the feedback. I get your point. Strategy is currently in difference of health loss. Wish I had more time for more items, balance and effects.
*chomp* *chomp* *burp*
Simple but very efficient game mechanic :) Plus now I know Blobs get aureoles when they eat vegetables !
very interesting game
Congrats on finishing something in such a short time, always tough getting time to jam with family demands. Think the simplicity of the gameplay worked well and was nice that there was some simple feedback to feeding the blob.
What a cute creature! Gameplay was quite basic, but I liked the aesthetics with the 3d modelled foods and the overall looks of the blob. It had nice expressions with the sound effects and the jiggle. Some sounds though were a bit annoying and repetetive compared to the others. Maybe small variations to the volume and pitch could alleviate it a bit? There were clips which played a bit delayed too, but overall, not a big deal.
I liked the visual indication of the alignment with the "angel ring" (or aureole I think? Ain't a native speaker so had to google it, thanks for helping me learn a new word!) and the devil horns, they were a nice touch. Although I still found the objective and the rules of the game to be a bit confusing; without reading the ldjam description it's quite hard to decipher what's going on based on the gameplay alone. But as you had even less time than the 48h compo default (12-14h really isn't a lot, I can tell from experience too), I understand that you had to wrap it up in a rush, without time for quality of life improvements and such. So knowing that, it seems that you were able to make the most of your time, as the game albeit its shortcomings, got completed in quite a playable state.
Good job for this on! And hope you get more time in the future jams, whenever you decide to participate again.
The sound effects are very fitting (if not always ... tasteful to listen to ) and help with the atmosphere.
Simple gameplay doesn't have to be a detractor necessarily, but I found myself wondering what the point is of the 'alignment system' with respect to gameplay. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but it seems you just pick an alignment, feed as much of that type of food (and it wasn't always clear what does what ... a sausage is neutral apparently?) and then hope you don't get stuck with _too_ much food of the opposite alignment.
Still, it was a nice little experience, and didn't overstay its welcome.
Saw several of your images mid-development. Neat to see the finished product. Short, but amusing. Didn't try to do much, but that's not really a bad thing.
