LD46 — Keep it alive

Ball Keeper by JCMonkey 2020-04-20T07:06:25Z

Very cool game. Enjoyed it when I realised that the blocks were placed where the mouse was, not where the cursor was. Would definitely play an expanded version of this.

Apple Factory of the Insatiable by nanolotl 2020-04-21T09:50:17Z

Very enjoyable game. One of the few I went back to for extra rounds. Wasn't expecting a deck builder in the Ludum Dare.

Mein Eie Reich by boblova 2020-04-29T09:09:59Z

I think I got the idea but I wasn't able to direct the eggs overly well. They mostly just wanted to bounce off the right side of the screen.

Orbit One by scottthoo 2020-04-20T08:36:19Z

Fun little game. I'm not good at it, but fun little game.

Pig For Slaughter by PotatoAndTaco 2020-04-21T09:23:18Z

Controlled nicely and was able to feed the pig. No bacon at the end.

Flatline by _D4RKJU4N 2020-04-22T09:09:37Z

The game just throws you right in it huh? A very novel concept and an interesting game. Tricky to control and the game would need some more feedback to indicate what you're doing is correct. I couldn't tell if I had to press E at the yellow thing once or multiple times as I had no indication of how much stuff I was holding before or after hitting the yellow block. I was able to save the pink square after a couple of tries though.

Just Fishing by DrunkardWolf 2020-04-20T06:21:57Z

Very relaxing, despite the burning plane. Once I figured out how to catch the fish it was fun. With some line physics and some more AI on the fish this could be quite nice. Excelent graphics and shader work, short music loops are usually irritating but worked in this case.

Congratulations on finishing the game in 48 hours.

Jake, Zack, and Chad's Day Out by Historymaker118 2020-04-21T11:38:04Z

Very nice presentation. Graphics and sound were great. Had issues getting the various elements to interact with eachother, controls seemed a bit finicky (though I'm one to talk).

For the king! by OfirMa85 2020-04-20T07:25:46Z

I was rooting for the monsters by the end. That King deserved anything coming towards him. Nice dollop of humor to go with the tower defense.

Keep The Blobs Alive by BilbyCoder 2020-04-22T08:51:05Z

Thank you to *deep breath* @jcmonkey, @generalsturgeon, @ofirma85, @alex-chrome, @thooom, @sode, @scottthoo, @charliegray, @nekoruma and @potatoandtaco for playing and commenting on my game. Also thanks to anyone who has played and rated my game without leaving a comment.

I am in the process of considering ways that I can improve and expand on the game, maybe get a post-ludum version out. We'll see.

Keep The Blobs Alive by BilbyCoder 2020-04-22T22:36:35Z

@suchista yeah, a lot of tuning is required if I make a post ld release. With regards to the music I'm not a good composer so I turned too this procedural generation tool. Still took a bit of work to get results I liked. https://pernyblom.github.io/abundant-music/index.html

Keep The Blobs Alive by BilbyCoder 2020-04-25T06:12:18Z

@quinn-patrick @lars-erik and @clockmaster Thanks for giving it a look. The controls certainly need tightening. And there is definitely more to come with this game, just in a slightly different format. The controls and balance are going to be a big focus.

As I was making it the game felt a bit like the NES games I played in the past. I've been looking for an excuse to learn Pico-8 and I think I've found one.

Yegg by Balduvian Dead 2020-04-29T09:35:05Z

This is a really fun little game. Shame that it doesn't seemt o be getting much attention. I made it to the third level and honestly played it longer than I was intending as I work my way through the various LD games.

If you gave some other games reviews you might get more people looking at this one as you have a good little game here.

Keep Them Alive by acoto87 2020-04-25T10:22:05Z

Nice game. Surprisingly fun. I ended up working on a strategy of trying to keep most of the patients fairly equal but running a couple of beds close to the wire, trying to keep the ventilator on one patient as much as possible so that they would recover. I think my only criticism was the music was a bit repetitive by the end, but how much can I ask for in 48 hours?

Serious questions need to be asked about the management of this hospital. By the end I had free ventilators and others with two patients still hooked up.

Ended up with all but one patient recovered.

ikousistam by RitoBuRito 2020-04-22T09:20:07Z

Interesting concept. I liked the ecological balance theme. Font was a bit hard to read and I'm not sure I really grasped how to balance things well.

Parvus Anoplolepis gracilipes by Sode 2020-04-20T05:50:20Z

Well I was laughing my ass off when the termites got flung at me, and watching the ant flop around as I tried to steer it. We are in a competition for bad controls my friend. Good effort.

Hell TD by Borys 2020-04-21T09:54:31Z

Well done for completing a game in 48 hours.

Seek the Sun by Elyaradine 2020-04-25T10:53:11Z

I am blown away by this entry. It's just really nice and relaxing. Growing and pruning the plant became almost meditative as I worked my way up. I really want to thank you for not including music as I actually think that would have detracted from this entry.

Graphics, controls and mood were all there aplenty. The only criticism I would have is with the turn table, leaving it up tot he player to turn and perhaps a button to start/stop it moving? But that is the minorest of quibbles.

Captain Turnip - A Quest for the Golden Rum Bucket by T8kk 2020-04-25T10:30:06Z

By far the most impressive graphically of all the games I've played to this point. Music was a bit repetitive, but what are you going to do. Made it to the end and the game was certainly fun enough to keep me entertained all the way through. Stellar job.

Distansya Game by Franz Samson 2020-04-21T09:18:09Z

Graphics and sound was good. Fit with theme. A bit hard to grab and move people, they weren't very responsive to my mouse clicks.

tyle by jordantanner 2020-04-22T09:33:27Z

Very fun little score attack game. Wasn't quite able to figure out what breaks the streak and would recommend some way to warn if a block is going to vanish from underneath you.

This would be a great little mobile game.

YAB by Lars-Erik 2020-04-23T09:09:33Z

Well I should have read the description! I was able to get an angelic blob but my attempts at a devil blob didn't go so well due to some late game forced broccoli feeding.

Fun game, kind of regretted playing it with headphones on (got to listen to those sounds in their glory). Congratulations on finishing something given the even shorter time you had to make it.

Ballerina by CaptAndrey 2020-04-24T09:26:49Z

Nice job. While I didn't have a hard time getting into the keyhole I must admit that the sound tone you picked was a bit too harsh and detracted from the enjoyment. I would suggest lowering the pitch a bit and perhaps picking a softer waveform (not knowing exactly what tools you used).

Still nice to see something a bit different.

Ballerina by CaptAndrey 2020-04-24T12:54:33Z

@captandrey You certainly didn't use it wrong :) I used BFxr for my game as well (well I used other things for the music). There are different wave forms each of which have a different harshness. In this case for me it was a combination of the pitch and the wave form, though I suspect the pitch was the majority of it. Had the pitch been a little lower it probably would have been alright, and if a different wave (sin / square / triangle etc) had been used it may lessen the shrillness.

I've given you a follow. If you make announcements here I'll certainly be interested to see how you improve the game.

CAMPFIRE by PROJECTaroid 2020-04-24T08:51:12Z

Very nice game. Graphics and mood were very pleasant and very relaxing. As others said, some visual feedback regarding the logs would have made things more playable but it was such a nice relaxing play.

Protect The Artifact by WillyPa 2020-04-20T06:37:47Z

Quick to grasp, nicely implemented controls. Congratulations on a 48 hour game. I noticed that time in that world is metric.

The IT by troll_hunterX 2020-04-20T05:44:44Z

Good concept. The time limit along with the difficulty of picking up items limited how much I explored it, but graphics and mood were great.

The Abomination by vano 2020-04-20T06:12:26Z

Unfortunately I wasn't able to figure out how to combine items. Good work on finishing a game.

VAT - Very Astonishing Tubs by GeneralSturgeon 2020-04-20T07:14:05Z

A different style of game with some interesting concepts. Not sure that the people who signed up for the VAT program got quite what they were after and I have some questions about the organisation running this.

Inner Drive by Emin 2020-04-29T09:03:22Z

Congratulations on completing a game in the compo. Wasn't quite able to figure out what to do, stopping at places didn't seem to have much impact. The music was decent however and it had a unique look.

Keep the Party Alive by Jirushi 2020-04-20T05:59:48Z

It controlled nicely, I had no issues picking up logs and I was able to find my way back to the fire. Graphics were nice and there was music.

If there was more to the game than picking up logs I didn't find it but congratulations on finishing a game.

Keep My Keep Alive by Thooom 2020-04-20T06:01:43Z

Unfortunately the link didn't work. Sorry I couldn't rate your game.

Keep My Keep Alive by Thooom 2020-04-20T06:28:57Z

Fun typing game. Would recommend spreading to the entire keyboard. Music didn't suck, so I turned the volume right up. Congratulations on finishing the game in 48 hours.

Social Life by CharlieGray 2020-04-20T01:23:24Z

Fun game. The control of the shields needs to be refined a bit, I didn't like the 123 control scheme much but as a proof of concept this was entertaining. Would make a good mini game for a larger social simulator or something.

Possibly having the shields at different layers would help a bit as well.

Saving The Light by Dpeet1 2020-04-20T06:49:52Z

Very nice. I've kept this one to play to the end later, thoroughly enjoyable. The ghost felt a bit heavier than is my preference in platformers, and it'd be nice to have some indication of when the red/blue blocks were going to switch.

Lone Cabin by Alex Chrome 2020-04-20T07:34:38Z

Quite a fun game. With some music and sfx as well as some way to hotkey actions I could see this making a good release title.

Power Surge by Marston 2020-04-23T09:03:34Z

Nice game. Threw me for a loop the first couple of rounds when the power went out on me. I was blasting away killing all the mecha-squids. Just... laying into them bullet after bull... ohhhh.

Having to be conservative with my shots gave the game a slightly more interesting edge than many games of this style where you can get away with just blasting away.

Graphics and sound were nice. If I had a recommendation it would be to separate out the health of the power-plant or do something like lower the maximum health. I found it a bit too easy to "repair" by killing the attackers. I feel like letting the enemies get to the generator should have more permanent repercussions.

Hearth Keeper by jsmitq 2020-04-29T09:19:11Z

Nice simple resource management game. Could be balanced to be a bit tougher, I was able to juggle the options pretty easily.

Egg Defender by Tent Hat 2020-04-20T06:55:19Z

Many kneecaps were pecked. I was the destroyer of humans and planter of flowers. Congratulations on finishing a game in 48 hours.

Chaos by Sthealthinator 2020-04-23T08:56:15Z

Fun game that controlled nicely. I don't know if you adjusted the bloom but I was able to see the game over screen alright. It was disconcerting having the music in only one ear (I'm using headphones).

Congratulations in getting a game out in the 48 hours.

BUBBLE BOY by NEKORUMA 2020-04-21T09:13:38Z

Fun little game and directly in line with the theme. Graphics and audio was fantastic. Well done.

The Monk and the Child by Mila1004 2020-04-22T08:55:24Z

Also tried to play your game. Unable to access as others have said, if you fix the problem @ me and I'll come back and play your game.

The Monk and the Child by Mila1004 2020-04-23T08:43:08Z

Nice art and designs. Interesting little game. When I pushed the target out the way it became much easier :).

Congratulations on finishing a game in 48 hours.

Just a quick note, you might want to review some other people's games as it will help surface your game more and you might get some more reviews.

Let it Grow by yodathegiant 2020-04-22T08:54:16Z

Unfortunately I can't access you're exe. Did you make the itch.io public? If you @ me in the response I'll come back and play your game.
