A visual marvel. Great job on this one. I wonder if you will have some sort of end goal for this one.

A nice simple puzzler. Some indication that the waves were time-based (rather than one coming each time a tile was placed) would have been nice, and it seemed that oftentimes the best strategy was just to spam random tiles. Music was good.
Something really interesting here, and I like the art too. Right now I'm not sure the game brings out it's full potential. Like, there's some room for some really simple but engaging strategy, but instead RN it feels more like a game of "place random tiles as fast as you can until the RNG comes in your favor which misses the mark IMO. Whilst I think a turn based model could work well, I'm sure a real time model could still work. I think part of the solution might be to have the next couple of catastrophes pre-broadcast so the player can plan and adapt. I also think there needs to be more steaks to each piece, as well as perhaps a placing limit so each placement is more thought provoking. As is, I see little reason to worry about pieces being destroyed. Overall though, the main reason I like playing jam games is to see inspiring and experimental gameplay ideas, and this game certainly lives up to that!
@zanyg @brandon-js-lea Thanks for the feedback! I couldn't agree more. Because of the time pressure I didn't get it to where I wanted, I really want it to be more turn-based and strategy oriented. I think having a limit on tiles placed before each wave is the way to go for sure.
Hey Cody! Love the concepts here. I echo what some other people are saying. The story element is really nice and elevates it above some more abstract puzzlers. Some ideas: Have waves come from many different angles. Having a queue of approaching waves would be nice, as well as a visual countdown timer.
Very interesting game concept!! Had fun playing around with it. Some sort of end goal would be nice, or at least a counter for what 'wave' you are on! Good job :)
It felt very natural to play
As someone who also tried (and failed) attempting a hexagonal grid for a different game jam, I'm super impressed! Neat concept too, haven't seen something quite like this before.
Very neat concept and cohesive visuals. I know it's possible to spam tiles but I think there's still some goodness here with some tweaking. As an action game, it is a frantic game of spreading out your pieces correctly which isn't always easy (there really isn't time to choose the best piece though, you just grab one and analyze later). When a wave is about to hit, you have time to drop 2-3 pieces to guard places on the fly. Honestly w just 1 mechanic to protect against spam, I think the game is fine as is. Even without a queue to show waves, I liked that it was a VERY quick reaction/analysis/placement game, so great job on the execution!
Side note, is it mathematically possible to build a formation that permanently protects against all dangers?! I'm not clever enough to figure that out.
Like the others have said, there is a really good concept in here that could be worth exploring further. I love simple gameplay using "elements" like this. Very clever.
One of the best entries I've seen so far. Neat art, simple and intuitive Gameplay. I'll have to confess that I didn't quite get the logic of each tile to protect from the incoming waves and kept myself placing randomly the pieces to protect the center one. Nicely done with the music too. Great job!
I really enjoyed the fluid animations and clean visuals present here! I can't say as much about the sound, or that I understood the gameplay mechanics, but I think this is an extremely well-presented entry nonetheless.
Awesome!! Really good idea, so innovative and creative, its challenging and traps you playing, so good job! Maybe some more feedback will improve the gameplay, like outlining which cells are protected or are gonna be damaged in the next wave. And a game mode where you can only place 1 or 2 cells each wave will be really interesting, it would make you think more about where to place.
Looks great, but i'm feeling stupid... I didn't understand what determine which cells will be destroyed by the wave. Had 2 cells of water on the spirit and the fire wave still made me loose... The idea still looks pretty good !
I enjoyed trying to get every element to protect every other element, never got the chance to make an impenetrable barrier though XD! Nice work :D. Would have been really cool to have a simple "Waves Survived" or something so that the feeling of progression was there :).
looks good, although in few tries I made I always felt that randomness was against me and my designs. Bookmarked for later try
Lots of fun playing this game! WOuld have loved some kind of second chance, rather than immediately being wiped out, but the artwork is charming and the audio clips are super appropiate, great job!
I really liked the mood and settings of the game. The only issue I had was that the instructions weren't so clear and I ended up messing up horribly in my first run. The music is excellent! It's very calming and works perfectly with the game!
This game idea is great, although there isn't much content. The game unfortunately communicates the elements poorly, I thought that the tiles protect other tiles against one element, but it seemed that I lost when I thought I had all elements protected.
Visuals are great, the game logic is quite unclear (maybe create a tutorial to explain the interactions) and the audio is a bit to alarming to be "zen", I recommend choosing lower frequencies audio which feels more warm.
Very solid little game. A bit unclear how/why the other elements than the protecting one stay or go. Also only seemed to indicate direction of next event some of the times. Otherwise, pretty darn good game design. 🙂👍
