LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

The Cure by PinballJunior 2018-12-03T02:34:19Z

Very interesting concept for a game. The music fit well - I could sit back and ponder which of the traits were needed. The simple vector art and colouring was also great, although it clashed with the two fonts. Having a sans-serif font there would have been good. However, the 'world population' counter doesn't appear to work for me, and it took me a long time to discover I could re-assign test subjects who had survived. Overall, a good effort that fits well within the theme.

Temple of the Blood God by ZanyG 2018-12-03T04:11:37Z

@theseusinabottle Yeah, I couldn't think of any other way to do it without complex collision checking on the tilemap, it certainly wasn't intentional (although it does help with some of the later puzzles). Removing the inertia was on my list of things to do if I had more time. Thanks for the feedback.

Temple of the Blood God by ZanyG 2018-12-03T20:48:50Z

@nakami I've fixed the two issues (I hope), at expense of some of the platforming, but you can try it again here: https://zanyg.itch.io/totbg-update

Temple of the Blood God by ZanyG 2018-12-04T06:52:21Z

Yeah, @conk, the pressure plates aren't triggered by the crushing blocks (I know it's a bit nonsensical), but they are triggered by the player's blood.

Return to Kreswick by Arwith 2018-12-04T07:03:28Z

It certainly feels nice, looks and plays nice, but there's a couple of bugs that really bring it down. From the list above, I experienced #1, 3, 4 and 5. The large map is also interesting to run around. Overall, I'd encourage you to decide on a smaller scope next time so you can make a more polished and rounded game. Congrats.

LD44 — Your life is currency

Being stuck inside a computer is a unique theme that I found well-represented in the art and music. The gameplay would be repetitive if the game was much longer, so I found the length to be perfect. Even so, a few extra mechanics would be interesting: for example, have the enemies come from both sides of the screen and use two different buttons to attack on either side.

Band of Brothers by Arqcenick 2019-04-30T08:46:13Z

A very interesting concept. The real time strategy is a bit difficult to adapt to at first, and I was looking for a pause button. However, the art is excellent and the music (despite not being yours) was also fitting. Eventually, you got into a stride, and it became very comfortable to run the band, making it more fun. Well done.

Bet Your Life by Star Garden 2019-04-29T07:13:52Z

Intriguing concept to maximize your lives while still being safe. The art is really cool, but the different styles between the levels and in-between text screens feels a little jarring. The platforming itself feels tight and satisfying. I'm not sure if there was any music, but it wasn't playing for me. It'd be nice if you could see each of the levels when you have to make your bet, rather than just seeing a par, as each player will find different things difficult. Overall, quite a cute and enjoyable game.

Interesting Times by Frank Gevaerts 2019-04-29T03:40:26Z

It's a unique concept, using a variety of objects and characters to remember things about your life, and something I haven't seen anything quite like before. The small town and simple locations combine with the commonplace stories to give it a quaint feel, which sets the mood and tone well, and the simple writing also fits. Even just as a small demo, it is interesting and allows you to quickly play through the entire game - even though the puzzles are simple and limited to examining every object then picking the most logical options, it doesn't feel like a chore, as I was playing for the story. My only query is about the theme: it feels like it would have belonged more if 'limited memory' had won. How does this relate to currency?

Two Minutes of Fame by ZanyG 2019-04-29T05:27:04Z

@dinosire No prompt on the start screen, but I listed it in the controls section of the itch.io page. I was really worried about the music - I composed four different tracks before settling on the final two, so it's nice to hear that they aren't so bad.

@koemeterion Tutorial was below the game, on the itch.io page.

Prospector Stanley by kypello 2019-04-29T05:14:58Z

I love the fluidity and exaggeration of the animations. Combined with the upbeatness of the music, it really sets the mood. I only wish you could expand the mine more, and purchase a larger variety of objects - as it stands, there is little that sets it apart from other clicker games. Regardless, it had a strong sense of theme, and the voice acting, although amateur, was engaging and humorous - especially "MIIIIIINECART!".

Let's make really bad life decisions... by FanManPro 2019-04-29T05:29:28Z

Interesting (and incredible unique) puzzle concept that fits the theme very well. Learning how to control the giant spinning coin and then using it to try to reach the door is engaging. My only issue is that I would suddenly stop moving left or right, and have to jump then press the key in midair to begin again.

Transfusion by DecadeDecaf 2019-04-29T04:49:40Z

The music was incredible and the simple colouring but clear art was easy to keep track of when solving puzzles. The concept is simple and easy to learn, but the control scheme is a bit finicky. I would have preferred that, when transfusing, the two animals morph into one, and then they can split apart later, rather than having to pick the other body up, carry it across, put it down, and transfuse back. Puzzles have a good difficulty curve, but they all have a pretty logical sequence of moves. Overall, an decent and enjoyable game.

Worth a Coin by Evolus 2019-04-29T07:04:04Z

The game plays well with tight controls and an interesting and varied map, especially with the extra collectibles to keep the difficulty high. The art is consistently high-quality and the music is fitting. Interesting take on the theme, and excellently drawn game over screens. Congratulations.

Designated Victim by toasteater 2019-04-29T05:05:16Z

Very enjoyable experience, great music, theme, and a really innovative concept to match. The controls felt tight and only having to use WASD and the mouse helped out a lot. I'd only question the usefulness of the terminal shops - for the earlier rooms, I would just ignore them all, and use the large amounts of time to carefully dodge things instead of swapping polarities.

Cult Master by xSupah 2019-04-29T05:36:52Z

Dragging each of the tiny little cultists on top of the altar indeed felt satisfying, but also incredibly comedic, and I enjoyed the struggle to click on them before they ran past. Interesting take on the theme. My only critisism is that the game feels a little too easy - I would just drag each of them up there to gain enough money, and as I was running out of food click that button a few times. If it's meant to be an idle game, I understand, but then why the lose condition?

LD45 — Start with nothing

Unlock Everything by DDRKirbyISQ 2019-10-07T02:43:02Z

Very good. Most of my complaints are minor nitpicks: the unlock jingle became a little annoying after the dozenth time, I could beat the boss fight on my first try by standing in the mdidle, not trying to dodge any attacks, and just holding down Z (reading the other reviews, has the fight been nerfed since then?), I'd like some more detail in the large patches of solid tile (when half the screen is covered, its better to have it more than just one color), and there was one blind jump with one tile that went directly into spikes towards the end of the second stage. Other than that, loved the music and the art. Classic Mega Man goodness.

The Life Spirit by Cobear25 2019-10-07T02:51:28Z

A nice simple puzzler. Some indication that the waves were time-based (rather than one coming each time a tile was placed) would have been nice, and it seemed that oftentimes the best strategy was just to spam random tiles. Music was good.
