Wow, really nicely done. I wasn't expecting to see a metroidvania like in a game jam! I love your art, the little cutscenes are amazing, music is great, game design could have avoided a few tedious back and forth but it's still good.
An advice I can give you : if you want to have more ratings, you really should avoid releasing a game that needs installation, this is really blocking for a lot of people.
Wow, amazing! One of the best LD43 game I've played so far, amazing art, great music, smooth gameplay, nice interpretation of the theme. I love small details you added like list of targets and civilians killed at the end!
Haha, great! It begins like a cute little game then... ends in a dark way but still cute, amazing!
By the way, I loved art and music too!
Haha, amazing, as always!
Great game! Graphics are amazing, nice music too. Overall physics and hitboxes make the game a little bit harder than intended, but that's great for a first plateformer and level design is really nice!
Great shooter! For a compo I'm really impressed about the overall quality in art, music, code and gameplay.
Nice job
Amazing level design!
I love the fact you can finish the game by sacrificing a character at each level and have to start again with this information that made the second run completely different.
Amazing, especially about level design! Too bad I get stuck before what seems to be the last level, by sacrificing gravity change while in reverse gravity XD
Did I just spend the last half hour hitting spacebar? Yes!
Did I enjoy that? Yes, that's a clicker but that's a good one :)
Cute graphics and amazing animation! Also glad to see other people using Godot, nicely done for someone unfamiliar with this engine.
Great game! Fun and challenging, with nice art, sounds and music :)
Amazing game!
Level design, graphics, music, everything's great!
Nice concept, art and sound, but boring level design. All enemies have the same stats, losing one of your two characters leads to an unavoidable game over, you can put a character at the bottom of each lane and kill enemies endlessly. Just adding a second wave with different pattern would have make it more fun. I also found a bug : when your two characters get killed the game stay stuck with no way to reset level. You probably ran out of time, that's a nice start but it really looks unfinished.
Thanks for your feedback @malghoul :) There are a lot of collisions bugs I wished I had fixed. But I'm not very experienced in game development, this is my first jam and my first platform game, so I'm already glad I managed to get something done!
By abusing physics engine it's possible to finish the game with only 9 deaths, maybe less ^^
Thanks for your feedbacks all!
@morriss : it's my first game jam, but I started game development more than five years ago, but never managed to release anything, then totally dropped it for work the past years, and only get back to it recently. So that may explain why you found that very surprising
@mbc : no, that was not intentional at all XD But that's funny for me to see people playing it are trying to use bugs to finish it with the lowest death possible. It's flaws let appear emergent gameplay ^^
Thanks all for your feedback, I too would have liked to do more levels, but I ran out of time and inspiration :p Maybe for a future update!
> @linky439 > I’ve never tried PICO-8, is it easy to use?
I don't know what is your experience in game development and programming. I learned gamedev with XNA almost 5 years ago, so compared to that Pico-8 is fairly easy, lol What I like in Pico-8 is that you have anything to create your game in a single software, from sprite editing and tilemap to sfx and music. But compared to some modern game engine that require nearly no coding, you need to code anything in Pico-8, there's no built in physics and collision engine, no animation editor or things like that. But I think it's really great to get things done really quickly, all tools are easy to use, and it's limitations (128x128 screen, 16 colors, etc.) forces you to keep it simple.
Fun concept. Nice physics and mechanics, sometimes it gets a little confusing when lots of buddies get stuck, but I really had a great time finishing this game :)
Really clever! Well done :)
Everything has already been said, great concept, nice graphics audio! I wished the more challenging puzzles, I wished the diagonal move was introduced in some better way, I think ghost bullets don't add the expected kind of challenge, would have been better with another type of turn based element.
Anyway you get a great game concept that could work really well on a full game with more polished level design and new game mechanics!
Too bad I have nobody to play with me, it looked great :(
Great games mechanics, really addictive. And I love the game art too!
Wow, great game! A little bit hard to understand at first but really interesting once you get it.
Good job!
Heavy Metal Coin Pusher, Yeah :metal:
Haha, funny idea, made me laugh a few times :) The gameplay is a little bit too easy and repetitive, I gave up after 5 years, but cute art and animations! I agree with what has been said about the music in previous comments.
It made me cry  Well done...
Amazing art and music by the way
Thanks for all your feedback. I'm glad I managed to get something done despite the lack of time during the jam. I'd do better next time :)
Great game, I loved the concept!
I love the concept, really great and the graphics are cute! Unfortunately I wasn't able to finish it because my computer crashed twice while playing it, but I really appreciated that idea!
What an nice adventure game! I'm always impressed of what you achieve to do with Pico-8, good job!
Thank you @benjamin, I personally hate this transition because I think it's too harsh, but I really wanted to keep this background evolution while progressing ^^
And also I'm really glad to see someone who worked on games I really enjoyed in the past playing something I've made!
@phoenix-fireflower : thanks for your feedback :slight_smile:
About the comments, the first one has been published before the end of the game jam, when the ratings weren't opened yet, but there's still one rating missing. I don't know, maybe someone forgot to give a rating
@amerigo-gazaway Thanks :) To answer your question about music, yes it needs to be created in Pico-8. And because this is a virtual console there's limitations, only a few instruments available, 4 channels and a limited memory, like there are limitations about the code size, the colors you can use, the number of available sprites, etc.
Nice little game with an innovative concept. I hope you'll get your 20 ratings before the deadline
Great game! It took me a little while to understand you have to put pieces down quickly to keep the fire alive, haha ^^' And you really did a great job on pixel art considering the Pico-8 limitations!
Aïe haden't loafed so hard since a longue time, fanke iou very mutche !
Yay, I finished the year with $190!
Nice little Pico-8 game, some cheap sound effects would have been great to give it more life, but great work, that was fun playing it!
Great game, now I want to quit my job, haha, well done
Very nice incremental game!
Mechanics are good and art is amazing! Really well done, I loved the twist for the real ending, haha
Haha, I laughed so much playing this game
Well done!
Wow, I tried using Godot to make a game with a text chat with similar mechanics a few years ago, and I'm really impressed how you managed that, paths between dialogs, typed deleted words and all, that's amazing! I just read the source code, that's very smart, good job!
One of my favorite for this game jam, amazing art and animation and great challenge to beat!
It took me a while to understand what to do, haha
We are not used to take decision so fast in resource management games, that's an interesting concept!
Great work on graphics and souds by the way, well done
Hi @lonewookie thanks for playing my game.
Yes you undertand it well, towers are firing every 10 second after you build it, so you have to anticipate where the enemies will be in 10 seconds, and also time tower placement depending on nerby towers timing.
But overall the game is very difficult on purpose. Even if in theory you can kill all enemies (there is only one more enemy each wave, and you can place a new tower every 10 seconds) it's almost impossible to destroy them all after wave 4 or 5. And it's impossible to destoy all enemies after your first tower upgrade since it costs 2 orbs but only kill one more enemy.
@skyward4d Yes it's always better to place a new tower than upgrading one. I ran out of time for balancing the game like I wanted to. At first upgrade cost was one orb, but since it gives both a biggest range and one more kill it made the game way too easy, haha
Since you get an orb five seconds before each wave on ennemies and upgrading gives you 0.5 kill/orb (instead of 1 kill/orb for building) it become impossible to kill all attackers when you start upgrading. But sometimes, mainly depending of the generated path it can be more efficient to upgrade a tower than to build a badly timed tower...
@wetburritosupreme it's totally random, generated when you launch the game
Wow, impressive work coding it from scratch in javascript !
I'm glad the guards aren't worried to hear me flush the toilet six times each minute
Great game, I love the hand-drawn graphics!
PS : I read your previous comment about keyboard layouts, if your game don't use A or W keys on a french keyboard you can safely bind Z/W to up and A/Q to left to safely support the most used layouts in the world
