Nice twist on the TD genre. The towers are firing at a fixed interval, not on demand. Which makes the "when" the towers are placed very important. Otherwise it might left a whole corridor undefended.

This was a fun implementation of tower defense and fits the theme really well! It seems a little tricky to get all of the enemies since you only have a limited number of towers. Is it possible to destroy all the enemies each wave? Well done!

EDIT: I think I understand the towers better now - they fire every ten seconds so I have to plan ahead for where the enemies might be. Also, making the level randomly generated is a nice touch!

Yes you undertand it well, towers are firing every 10 second after you build it, so you have to anticipate where the enemies will be in 10 seconds, and also time tower placement depending on nerby towers timing.

But overall the game is very difficult on purpose. Even if in theory you can kill all enemies (there is only one more enemy each wave, and you can place a new tower every 10 seconds) it's almost impossible to destroy them all after wave 4 or 5. And it's impossible to destoy all enemies after your first tower upgrade since it costs 2 orbs but only kill one more enemy.

I like that everything takes 10 seconds, it is a creative way to use the theme. Good game!

What a hard game! I don't know what is better, getting new towers or upgrading existing ones. Either way, the amount of enemies is just too much after a while. I don't know how to keep surviving.

Nice tower defense game! I think this game merged themes from Ludum Dare 50 and Ludum Dare 51. It's hard to figure out perfect strategy since tower shoots every 10 seconds while enemies could be anywhere. But I like the randomized maps, it's a nice addition.

Really interesting concept. Was a bit confused at the start but once I read the comments I got the hang of it! Really good retro art style and good animations. I think it would of benefited from distinguishing between the "waves" but really good within the limitation!

Really creative application of the theme. Loved the random map generation layout! I feel like it's always worse to upgrade towers instead of building a new one? And then you can't keep up with the enemies once you have to start upgrading towers? Still, it was really satisying to have a fully-upgraded tower blasting enemies rapid-fire from across the map. You made it really intuitive when the towers were ready to fire/on cooldown, and I think for the low resolution, readability is important so you handled that nicely. Fun game, nice work!

Good idea, feels like Bloons on the color Game & Watch console :) I did not get the fact that the towers shoot every 10 seconds on my plays, I think it's a great idea (upped the Theme rating one star from the previous) but you should really describe it in the game description and/or the game itself. Congrats for submitting to compo.

Wow, nice to see another tower defence game and how it couldn't be more different from ours, nice title btw :wink: :wink: Gameplay feels solid and there's good visual and audio feedback to the player. You even got random map generation which is great for replaying it. It could use a bit more variation for the towers and enemies tho, it feels a bit repetitive after a short time already. But otherwise its a great solid game for the jam, good job :thumbsup:

@skyward4d Yes it's always better to place a new tower than upgrading one. I ran out of time for balancing the game like I wanted to. At first upgrade cost was one orb, but since it gives both a biggest range and one more kill it made the game way too easy, haha

Since you get an orb five seconds before each wave on ennemies and upgrading gives you 0.5 kill/orb (instead of 1 kill/orb for building) it become impossible to kill all attackers when you start upgrading. But sometimes, mainly depending of the generated path it can be more efficient to upgrade a tower than to build a badly timed tower...

I won! Great little game, I really like the little sand particle bad guys, and I'm impressed the map is randomly generated:0 I saw the first one and figured it was the only map, but the next was totally different, idk if it's a set of premade or random, but good variety!

nice pico8 entry, I think you deserve some credit for going with pico8 here! I like how you somehow managed to integrate the theme with a tower defense game, also like the attention to details like how the towers play some animation before shooting and how you put some effort into the music that plays when you loose lol. only thing I would change is maybe some kind of visual way for the player to know that the tower is recharging, I though that the game was buggy at first because only some towers were working but then it hit me that the theme was "10 seconds".. anyway nice game, I enjoyed it

Great game! I managed to survive 27 waves on my first try, no idea how good that is. I'm glad you added upgrades, that definitely increases the strategy aspect of the game.

This was a okay little Tower Defense game. But I think the towers is a bit too ineffective.

All elements fit well and good overall concept. I tried going upgrade route and failed :D then read the comments. I think only missing thing is music.
