Nice little game I really enjoy it. Just need some audio :D

grhyll 2019-10-07 17:02

@zsolt Thanks ^^ Possibly it also needs a bit more than a grand total of 3 available cards to craft :')

snesgaard 2019-10-07 17:57

Really nice to have an LD game with an actual in-game tutorial :O Didn't quite get how to use summon creature though.

grhyll 2019-10-07 18:04

@snesgaard Thanks ^^ The game reaally needs a tutorial indeed, and even the one in place is a bit short as you've noticed ^^' The thing that isn't clear is that you collect bonuses during the fight, and then when you're out of fight and you click on an empty square on the left, it allows you to use those bonuses to craft cards. After that, you can use those newly crafted cards during the next fight :) I'll edit a bit the presentation because, yeah, it's not clear at all.

dvlv 2019-10-07 18:04

This is super cool. I enjoyed playing it.

los 2019-10-07 18:06

Didn't get how to get cards, or fight! I just get killed by the other creatures :(

shared 2019-10-07 18:06

God I really love this one, the card crafting mechanic is genius, that game is easily worth 5 stars. The gameplay is really good and satisfying, even if there are only 3 cards components for now. If you plan to make more of this game please tell me, I'd really look forward to see more of it.

grhyll 2019-10-07 18:11

@dvlv Thank you :D

@los Damn, I'll admit my tuto is a bit short! To craft cards, you have to click on an empty square of the left side once there's "Cards collection" displayed on the top. It opens the crafting menu, and you can use the bonuses you got when you killed the enemies during the fight part :)

@shared Ooh thank you ^__^ I'd really love to make a real game from this, with tons of combinations! It would require such a big budget to have acceptable art and everything though (not even mentioning the three projects I'm currently working on....) :/ It's definitely something I'll keep thinking about though!

trusty 2019-10-07 18:14

Game: "This is you". Me: "Oh wow it looks just like me, how did they know?" Fun game, would be cool to see you keep building on it.

slovnoslomo 2019-10-07 18:17

i played your game the longest so far. nice one!

really like your design intentions here, would love to see more abilities and content :)

shared 2019-10-07 18:17

@grhyll This is really my favorite so far, good luck if you decide on continuing it !

los 2019-10-07 18:18

@grhyll Thanks! I managed to make it work. For some reason my character wouldn't attack anything the first time I tried the game :)

kekkodude 2019-10-07 18:18

Actually a pretty decent pice of game this right here, you get some different creature combinations but it scales up really fast so it didn't really feel challenging, but the concept is really interesting!

slovnoslomo 2019-10-07 18:20

also your statement on **Sound** is sooooooo painfully familiar. happens with me all the time haha

grhyll 2019-10-07 18:49

@trusty x) Thanks! I'd love to make a real game with this concept, but that would be quite a huge project :o Maybe someday!

@slovnoslomo Ooh cool, thanks! Glad you could see the intention because, yeah, that's pretty much all there is to it ^^' And yeah I haven't tried your game yet, but I see Audio isn't among the categories to vote for x)

@shared I'm blushing ^_^ About to try yours btw!

@los Oh cool! (Or... not cool? ^^' I didn't have a lot of time to playtest so there must be a ton of bugs...)

@kekkodude Thanks :D Yeah the balancing is totally random, to be honest I added the waves progressions in the last half hour and couldn't even test it, so... that kinda shows ^^'

beshr-kayali 2019-10-07 19:23

Love it! Fire emblem/Hearthstone merge in a way.

Sometimes it seems to auto attack enemies in range and sometimes I have to initiate it, not sure if intentional or not :)

I'd really like to play a game like this WITH SOUND and some more polished graphics!

Great work :)

grhyll 2019-10-07 20:17

@beshr-kayali Thank you ^^ Yeah sound and real art would make the experience sooo much smoother! Regarding the auto-attack, I think there's a bug where sometimes enemies don't take damage, but it doesn't look like what you're mentioning, so I guess it's just a different bug ^^' Making the base system took too long, I didn't get the chance to spend as much time playtesting and debugging as it needed!

louis-denizet 2019-10-08 09:30

I really loved it, I think the game concept has so much potential with the strategy during fight and before fight, it has kind of the same feeling than Into the breach for me, well done for finding this concept!

randdir 2019-10-08 17:43

Nice entry pal and graphics card are really nice (style MS.paint is a style ;) for me depend on how to fit). Keep it up ! (sorry for the previous comment miss with an other game xD)

grhyll 2019-10-08 17:46

Ahah @randdir the funny thing is that I just happened to play the game were your initial comment should have gone and saw it there, and yeah that made more sense :'D

winslow 2019-10-08 19:39

Really enjoyed this turn based game! Everything was well built out with the power ups and the card buffing etc.

rayne 2019-10-08 19:48

Nice little game! It shows you worked really hard on this

grhyll 2019-10-08 20:40

@winslow Thanks :) Now it just needs more than 3 power ups and 3 cards :'D

@rayne Thanks, I guess we all did around here ^^

zubspace 2019-10-08 22:17

Very nice! Crafting your own cards feels so rewarding. The game gets really hard after a while, but that's ok! A retry-level option would be a nice addition I think. I would love to play this again with more card options.

locomule 2019-10-09 03:01

Fun to play and feels pretty complete for a 48 hour jam. Everything was very intuitive too, nice job.

grhyll 2019-10-09 17:23

@zubspace Thanks :D You may not believe it, but a friend of mine played a game of... 8 hours. I'm not kidding (I kinda wish I was). He loves optimizing stuff :D

@locomule Wow super glad you found it intuitive, I was pretty scared it would be impossible to understand ^^'

changemewtf 2019-10-09 18:25

VERY fun crafting new cards. I would love to play a more fleshed out version of this, especially with just a tiny bit more graphic & sound polish. The gameplay is so compelling that I was hardly even distracted by the lack of sound!

grhyll 2019-10-09 18:35

@changemewtf Thank you :D I hope I'll find the time someday to try and make it a real game ^^

weine 2019-10-09 18:40

Love the premise and the creatures are kind of cute. Also after reading the intro and the tutorial the controls were really intuitive. Super impressive for a compo game!

lesinvisible 2019-10-09 20:02

Good creative atempt, sadly, it wasn't finished as planned but still worths to at least check it out.

grhyll 2019-10-09 20:51

@weine Ahah thank you, I think i'm leveling up in programmer art :'D

@lesinvisible Uuh thanks I guess? ^^' I didn't really have a clear set of things to do in mind, I mainly wanted to have the base system and as many cards as possible :D (Which turned out to be exactly 3 :'D)

poundthegroundstudios 2019-10-09 21:27

I like it its interesting

romes 2019-10-09 23:56

Really good mechanics! Well done

netmute 2019-10-10 10:04

I'll be honest. From the description and the screenshots I didn't think I'd like this. Card games are not my cup of tea, and it sounded kinda complicated.

Boy was I wrong. This might be one of the most fun games I've played this LD. The mechanics are very simple once you understood them. The more I played, the more I learned what card modifications were beneficial. I kept my deck at 4 cards and just buffed them as far as I could every round. Then I discovered I could modify myself. I AM A GOD NOW.

I loved it. I loved the tactical placement of my pieces on the board. And using buffed up fireballs to snipe the nasty looking ones from afar.

The missing sound doesn't hurt the game. And the graphics are nice and simple, they get the mechanics across and fit this type of game very well. Minor critic point? After you understand the mechanics and have a buffed out deck, it becomes almost too easy

I think you are too harsh on yourself. This is wonderful for 48h and I enjoyed it a lot! :hugging:

savvy-community 2019-10-10 10:16

Awesome little game, very complete and interesting! Congratulation it's pretty neat!

grhyll 2019-10-10 16:07

@poundthegroundstudios Thanks ^^

@romes Thank you!

@netmute Wow this is so wholesome ^_^ Thank you very much! You may want to check out Into the Breach if you've never tried it, I felt the same way you describe at the beginning of your comment toward it, I only tried it because I had it for free, and damn was it so cool! But yeah the progression of my game is totally broken, I only added the different enemies right at the end and couldn't even test them, I supposed players would never be able to go this far, since I had no time to really test the balancing ^^'

@savvy-community Thank you so much ^^

djee 2019-10-10 20:21

This is a very good game! Seriously one of the best entries I rated so far. The game is a bit easy, so would need rebalancing, and of course audio, but otherwise it's a solid game with good mechanics, that really shows some potential to be developed into something really amazing. Congratulations, really! You're much too hard on yourself, this is an awesome entry!

d4rkweasel 2019-10-10 20:46

I really like this game! Would be cool, if you would continue improving it after Ludum Dare!

djee 2019-10-10 21:41

Am I doing this right? 😁 (too bad there's no save button, I'll stop here...)

the-card-crafter.png

grhyll 2019-10-11 16:09

@djee Oh wow I can't believe it :'D A friend of mine did that: BuffedMC.png But... well, it was a friend of mine! I didn't expect to see that kind of stuff from strangers ^^' Thank you very much, it makes me super proud ^^ I definitely want a lot to make a real game out of that, I have so many ideas, and I hope I'll make it happen someday!

@d4rkweasel Thank you :D I'd like that a lot, gonna have to figure out how I could make some time for that without sacrificing my other current projects ^^'

djee 2019-10-11 21:13

@grhyll that proves the game has good balance since there are different strategies to progress!

The only think I'd change to make it a bit less easy is to remove **one** of: - Mana regenerate per turn - Can use each minion once per turn (change to once per fight instead) - Minions death is not permanent (change to permadeath, but that makes the game much more difficult probably) - Player and minions do not attack at full attack level all adjacent cases, but instead for example lose in attack for the turn the defense of the enemy they kill, so that a 30 attack can kill 3 enemies with 10 def, but not 4 enemies with 8 (after the third enemy, the player only has (30-3*8)=6 attack left for the turn).

Each has advantages and drawbacks, makes the game a little or a lot harder. :grinning:

grhyll 2019-10-12 06:13

@djee Yeah there definitely is a lot I should have done to have a better balancing ^^' As you say, I think the biggest balancing issue is that the library is refilled as soon as you empty it, and you should just be able to play only once each card of your library per fight! I hesitated, but since I didn't have time to really playtest the game, I chose the wrong solution :D Also as you noted attacking full strength all around is too powerful, and your idea about this is interesting! (Not convinced by cards permadeath though ^^')

djee 2019-10-12 08:21

@grhyll yes minion permadeath can be for a special game mode, not the default one.

the-osk 2019-10-21 15:57

Pretty addicting game! I gave up after a few tries, but really fun game nonetheless. Great job!

grhyll 2019-10-22 16:41

@the-osk Thank you ^^ Loved yours!

kirbloid 2019-10-26 22:54

Creating cards is so cool! Plus I'll always appreciate a jam game, especially a compo, that has card crafting as part of it. Great job tackling the theme in a really creative way.

grhyll 2019-10-28 17:24

@kirbloid Thanks! Do you mean you've seen other games with card crafting in it? If so, I'd be very interested in some links if you happen to have some ^^

oda 2019-10-28 21:15

Great game, I loved the concept!

grhyll 2019-10-29 17:48

@oda Thanks ^^
