LD39 — Running out of Power

VUEL by Jezzamon 2017-09-21T17:20:35Z

You peeps, if you are running out of batteries, try strategy. The Wait feature is your friend. Speaking of friends, try kiting one along with you if you have energy to get to a new area before eating it. If you leave an enemy unstomped, new enemies may not load fast enough, etc, etc.. Jezzamon - I played the newer version. Amazing, but you know that already. Anyway, found a bug, a battery I couldn't collect. The only details I can think of is I was using the 9/10 bot, had left the battery behind while fighting and wound up going back to it. I jumped on and off it several time to make sure it was bugged. Hope this helps, great game.

Armless Kairo by thomas-olsson 2017-09-21T18:01:35Z

Wow! So many great things about your game, very inspiring. There was one tiny bug on the Windows version, after beating the boss and entering the escape tunnel with the energy in it, my game became super laggy. falling off the ledge in the next screen fixed it when I respawned. Great effort, conrats on doing so well!

LD45 — Start with nothing

L.D. Noire by karlipoppins 2019-10-09T03:59:20Z

I think that was the best I've seen so far. Very inspiring, I finished too :)

Warden of Void by kessutinnu 2019-10-10T19:26:39Z

Great work! Just slinging a puzzle platformer in 48 hours is impressive but the main mechanic was ingenious and fun to use. One of the best games I've tried so far, very nice.

Singularity by dob 2019-10-10T04:23:44Z

Beautiful implementation of your concept. I too think I hints might help but for a 48 hour jam I think you did a great job making something unique, interesting, and fun.

Bearly Alive by bjeaurn 2019-10-06T21:58:42Z

I got a little confused at first because I forgot to use space but on my second try I found Mom. Cute and fun :)

Liam Dehaudt's EPIC Life Simulator by pokenoufl 2019-10-09T00:16:15Z

Were all the buttons supposed to be idle? Sleeping was for me but I had to click on Beg and Search Trash repeatedly. Overall it was fun but hard, I never managed to buy an energy Bar much less make it to the city on a few play-throughs.

Sugarship by Firebender 2019-10-10T03:49:08Z

I guess I must kinda suck because by the time I collect a few sets the enemies are getting pretty low on the screen. I like the main game mechanic though, it is unexpected.

NoWastelandCreationIntended by kruemelkeksfan 2019-10-08T23:03:11Z

Running this in Chrome crashes Chrome for me but it runs fine in Firefox. Nice clean design, nice execution too. I made it to Earth. Does the 100 day timer reset when you reach another planet? Very nice effort overall.

NoWastelandCreationIntended by kruemelkeksfan 2019-10-09T21:22:01Z

@kruemelkeksfan Hopefully it is just some weird setting on my end? I tried multiple times and yeah, it crashes Chrome every time while loading. But if no one else has complained that must be a good sign so don't sweat it! Good luck in the competition!!

NoWastelandCreationIntended by kruemelkeksfan 2019-10-11T03:18:14Z

@kruemelkeksfan Sorry, you missed it in my first post that I got it to run fine in Firefox so alredy played and rated. Thanks though!

The Card Crafter by Grhyll 2019-10-09T03:01:56Z

Fun to play and feels pretty complete for a 48 hour jam. Everything was very intuitive too, nice job.

Cemetery Sweep by Locomule 2019-10-09T18:37:26Z

If I'd time I would have added bonuses like exploding jack-o-lanterns to help clear stages. Your goal is really to get as many points as you can from a stage before continuing rather than clearing a stage but we seem locked into that "clear the stage" mentality. I'm learning a lot! Huge thanks to everyone for playing, commenting, and rating!

Cemetery Sweep by Locomule 2019-10-10T13:12:27Z

@trusty You got it. I should do more music, that is my strong point. Thanks for commenting!

Cemetery Sweep by Locomule 2019-10-10T16:39:31Z

@blint6 Thanks! Did you click on the question mark and open the in-game help? I;m not sure if it would have been much more help though :)

Cemetery Sweep by Locomule 2019-10-10T17:34:39Z

@blint6 Ok, thanks so much. That is hat I ws worried about because many people mention being confused but no one has mentioned the help. Learning a lot, thanks again!!

Cemetery Sweep by Locomule 2019-10-10T18:27:50Z

@piturnah Thanks so much!I used BeepBox to make the music, it is free and a ton of fun. I'm also a musicican so that helps a lot :)

@bootak Thanks! It is funny, I've used Scratch for 10 years and always wanted to try it in Ludum. Wow, it is so fast (for me) to design in it is just crazy. I had a fever for 4 days before the competition began so I wound up taking naps and playing ,io games during some of my 48 hours. I can't wait for the next Ludum competition, I'm going to really go for it. But shhh... I don't see anyone else using Scratch which is weird considering how many users it has? Probably not too many that have used it as long s me :D If anyone asks tell them Scratch suuuuucks for game jams and we'll keep it our little secret!!

Cemetery Sweep by Locomule 2019-10-10T19:47:31Z

@attala Wow, thanks a lot!

@humphreysmedia I've been at Scratch 10 years but this is my first Ludum. I take it Scratch was once more widely used in Ludum Dares? I haven't seen anyone else using it this time. I was sick and sat out much of my 48 hours so I;d love to see what I can really do with it next time.

@blaster391 Thanks a lot for your great observations. I wanted to add a permanent high score list but ran out of time. As for it being a Scratch game I;ve been there 10 years, I've done some pretty complex stuff. I'm about to release a 3D voxel modeler that you can save models as text files so users can import/export them for trading. It is gonna be rather huge, kind of a celebration of being there 10 years. One of my most popular projects is a virtual keyboard that records your playing live and also has import/export for song trading.

Cemetery Sweep by Locomule 2019-10-15T01:39:44Z

@joqlepecheur Thanks so much for the great review and suggestions and congrats on figuring out the best strategy. The code is actually randomized so it is possible to get rounds without passes but with care yes, you can go a long ways. What blows my mind is that basically the ONLY thing blocking people from figuring out the best strategy is this weird mindset so many of us seem to share, the need to CLEAR THE BOARD, lol. Even when, as in this case, there is no additional incentive offered for clearing a board. I wonder what the effect would be of going back an forth, of paying players off for clearing some boards while clearing as little as possible of others? DOTA Underlords has both win and lose streak bonuses because you can come on strong towards the end by laying back at the beginning. Makes for nice strategy dynamics and makes the game more interesting.

Console >_ by Lex 2019-10-09T03:17:19Z

The hints were a perfect balance, nice job.

Nothing Does Matter by joqlepecheur 2019-10-10T20:18:18Z

Nice work! The still photo for the game looks interesting and the puzzle mechanics are very challenging. I'd like to make something like this.

ARCADE GIRL by ROBOWARRIOR1982 2019-10-10T17:05:33Z

I found all four stars! But I would have quit if I hadn't read comments here. I think some in-game clues that you need to dig and find the game would help a little. Nice job :)

The Runner by Attala 2019-10-10T18:17:32Z

Simple and very nicely done. How did you make the sounds? They were great!

The Runner by Attala 2019-10-10T18:47:06Z

@attala I thought so! Nice work, I use Reaper, gotta do that sometime.

Light your way out by Suchista 2019-10-10T17:32:52Z

Yay finished! Was the last level supposed to be completely lit? I thought I was clever on the level before it and carried a torch out with me but then the next level, the last, was completely lit and very easy to finish. Good job balancing your difficulty ramping, it was almost hard enough for me to give up but I really wanted to finish.

Stickman Get Stuff by Barrier 2019-10-09T02:27:17Z

Very griefy but in that addictive kind of way. Took me longer than I'd want to admit to finish :) Very nice

Llama Duck Mama by WubbaDuck 2019-10-10T03:26:24Z

I think having the ducks kinda circle the player would allow players more ease when trying to learn the crafting mechanics of the game. Nice effort though, very cute.

Land for Sheep by Pincushion 2019-10-10T18:45:47Z

Seems very nice but I couldn't get my balance right and kept dying. I never was sure what the difference between cows and sheep was?

Colour Shot by HumphreysMedia 2019-10-10T17:13:24Z

I ha to run it in Firefox rather than Chrome but then it ran great, looked great, and was fun to play. I'd throw in some simple powerups and score boosts just to mix up the game play a bit but great effort for 48 hours.

start with nothing by xart2012 2019-10-10T04:06:08Z

Funny! I tried outrunning the 2 zombie things and got stuck on hands=nothing. I could move up and down only but it wouldn't progress. Just a fluke I'm sure.

Global Warming Is Coming by Odeyalko 2019-10-10T21:50:02Z

First game? That is just crazy, great job! It took me a few deaths to realize the water was rising an touching it meant death. I wasn't sure what to expect either, I thought it might be a joke where even if you gather all the wood you lose because where are you sailing to anyway? Nice job. I finally won :)

Blank Page Syndrome by okkolobr 2019-10-09T04:17:00Z

Felt like I was playing a mini game within a game, nice execution

Oh Dam! by Adam Konig 2019-10-10T03:37:34Z

That was fun! I had issues getting pallets to release where I anted them or sometimes at all and the beaver that finally hit the rocks just jumped off a pallet and committed suicide, lol. Nice job.

Small Town by Emiliabea 2019-10-08T22:11:48Z

That was fun, love the hand-drawn look. I assumed I would get to pick out all 3 gifts though, guess I nee to play 2 more times? :)

Mr.Grind by iozsaygi 2019-10-06T21:52:06Z

weird, I get some text and a black screen at Itch.io. I can hear the jumping but.. black screen. Hope it is just me! using Chrome so errr.. I dunno?

edit: ran fine for me in Firefox. Fun game, with some more pixel art goodness I could ocd out on this for a while :)

A Quiet Realm by Tobias Froihofer 2019-10-07T00:10:57Z

I'm wanting to do something similar in 2D, that was fun

The Unknown Nude by romes 2019-10-10T03:59:53Z

Seemed like I had to do nothing but exercise till near the end and then when I picked Fight nothing happened until I died? I probably did something wrong, my bad.

Blobbie by polarcube 2019-10-08T22:24:11Z

It took me a while to figure out to click on the bars to activate the powerup. I tried 2 browsers thinking Chrome waas messing up the layering. But yeah, the enemies seem a little too aggressive but cool game

7 Days by AppoxGames 2019-10-07T05:13:05Z

outsidde the box in a very cool way, very fun mechanic, nice design

Spit warior by BRTEK007 2019-10-10T21:17:03Z

Very nice work, doesn't feel rushed at all. I may have done something wrong though, acquiring Ancient Knowledge trapped me as I couldn't get past the spitting enemy 2 screens to the left of the respawn.

In the beginning by djee 2019-10-09T01:38:07Z

The game unfolded nicely and worked well with the theme. Even when it felt like I knew what was coming I still felt compelled to continue and finish.
