A bit short. The glitchy lines between tiles was a bit annoying.

The puzzles felt a little weird. It felt a bit like they could be failed, but they also felt like there was only one thing to do at a time. It seemed like it was zoomed in too far so that I couldn't make a plan. I mostly just wandered around until I got to where I should be. Not seeing the gates open when the buttons were pushed was a bit confusing.

I liked the progression of mechanics from changing color to get through gates and getting "food". The story menu was a bit generic, and I clicked it rather than pressing the "A" button.

Thanks @voxelv!

The glitchy lines your are talking about are I assume when the resolution is not 1024x768. I tried all I could on the PC build to set the Unity player settings + force in code, but sometimes it still starts in fullscreen and ruins the pixel-perfect camera. Better play on itch.io, there should be no issue there.

For the rest, all valid points, mostly from lack of experience and resulting waste of time, and so lack of time to polish. Some levels can be failed, but overall it's quite simple. Turns out  designing puzzle problems is hard!

That was fun! Nice little game. Very cozy and fun. Good job!

themuffinman314 2019-10-07 20:20

Fun ideas. I enjoy how you worked in the theme, and how the graphics and sound game in slowly. This might just be me, but I felt like it was hard to think about the puzzles when I can't see everything at once.

zanthous 2019-10-07 20:23

My only issue is the movement felt unresponsive/laggy. The mechanics make for a decent puzzle game. As the game is now it could have existed on a small grid of tiles as well instead of a larger open world, depending on the direction you want to take the idea, it could help

Great idea and good execution! It worked pretty well, but I agree that the zoom level needs expanded so you can plan more and actually see what's going on. Maybe have a button to display the entire level? The gate unlock things could also zoom to where it's unlocking too, which would help. Overall I like the progression of the style where it become more detailed over time. That was really cool. Nice job!

I like the take on the theme, and though I wish it could be longer, it's still a lot of levels for a jam. The web player did crash when I got to the "Thanks for playing" screen. Overall engaging -- well done

djee 2019-10-07 20:48

Thanks everyone!

I did chose the zoom level semi-consciously to compensate for the lack of complexity in the puzzle, so you have to remember what you saw to solve. If you see the entire puzzle at once, I think it becomes overly easy, especially the level with the exit at the beginning whose path on purpose wanders away from the camera so you have to remember. If you see that one, there's no more challenge.

Is it your first Ludum Dare entry? If so congratulations on finishing it and welcome to the community!

Unpopular opinion: I liked the fact that the puzzle is not known on the start, and that you have to go around the level to think what you have to do to pass it. It's overall a solid puzzle game.

shadow30 2019-10-08 19:39

I loved the color puzzle element! Great job!.

djee 2019-10-08 19:39

Thanks @griz, yes this is my first entry! Glad I am not the only one to like my zoom choice

romes 2019-10-09 00:06

Nice job! Well thought graphics for the level, and i really liked the puzzles. Felt something like Portal in a way! Congratulations

locomule 2019-10-09 01:38

The game unfolded nicely and worked well with the theme. Even when it felt like I knew what was coming I still felt compelled to continue and finish.

unept 2019-10-09 22:11

There are some really good ideas in here! Sure, a little polish with the controls, level designs, and flow would help a little, but overall nice idea. I've always liked the idea of being able to access different parts of a level based on your color/possessions/costume/etc. I'd work on refining some of the basics, like the player's movement and level designs.

djee 2019-10-10 18:51

Thanks everyone! 😊

I really enjoyed this first jam :v:

Fun game!

lonewolfdev 2019-10-10 20:18

Nice idea! Short but good, as it should be on a jam! I really liked the mechanic of going through some parts of the level depending on which color you are. I just think the colors choosen for the puzzles should be a bit more diferent between them, as well as with the grow/shrink object, which they are kind of hard to tell them apart. But good job!

belug23 2019-10-10 23:36

I see we had about the same Idea for the begining, but the games are quite different. Continue the good work.

guckstift 2019-10-11 07:14

Wow, really inventive puzzle game idea! LOL'd about the reference in the intro xD Though I couldn't pass the level with the 4 directions and the 2 growers and 2 shrinkers yet. But overall it feels really sophisticated and challenging so far. Amazing you did this all as a compo. :thumbsup_tone4: The audio effects sound a bit coarse for me :D maybe make them more decent.

I need to solve this...

PS: I made it to the end. Hope you're going to devleop it further. Really cool, keep it up!

superunknown 2019-10-11 14:00

Really solid compo entry! I enjoyed the setup and the narration. It added to the mood and humor. Puzzle solving was fun. I actually liked the feel of the controls and I liked how you did the "adaptive" camera follow. Also, the zoom level made it more challenging, but as you mentioned...it is a balance element. I liked it...thought it was well done...especially given the 48h time constraint.

humphreysmedia 2019-10-11 14:17

Great movement in the game, I did accidentally eat all the shrink and grow abilities in the 4th level, so a reset button would be highly appriciated. Other than than great audio and good link to the theme!

grhyll 2019-10-11 15:53

Well that's a very cool concept! Nice progression, music is nice too (but SFX a bit loud ^^'), and execution is neat and clean :) At some points I also thought that a further camera would have been cool, but at the same time what you say makes sense and the feeling of discovering the level would be lost!

Congrats, especially for a first entry!

(I did get the error on the Thank you screen as well: An error occurred running the Unity content on this page. See your browser JavaScript console for more info. The error was: RuntimeError: index out of bounds)

djee 2019-10-11 21:06

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

@humphreysmedia you can restart via the menu, it's mapped to the START button on an Xbox 360 controller or the PAUSE key on a keyboard. Sorry that this was not clear.

@grhyll yes I know that error, not sure why it happens, this only occurs on the HTML5 build. I'm not too familiar about the WebGL support in Unity, maybe I am doing something that doesn't work for it (but otherwise work on PC and inside the Editor).

humphreysmedia 2019-10-13 16:29

Hey, just to let you know I’ve been making Ludum Dare 45 gameplay videos and I’ve put your game in my video! You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kqLrk46ODA

Thanks @humphreysmedia but I'm afraid you forgot to paste the link 😉
