LD45 — Start with nothing

Are you there? by limered 2019-10-08T00:15:09Z

So delightful!

PROJECT BIND by Plepletier 2019-10-07T23:59:00Z

Yes! I love this. Simple and fun gameplay with great atmospheric music and sound. Like a callback to old school arcade shootemups.

Formless by Shugor 2019-10-09T20:23:21Z

The dialogue was so funny! "I dunno, dude. bee stuff. you wouldn't get it." This was charming and plenty fun.

Ethuzhi by Pie-Tras 2019-10-07T23:00:16Z

Great establishment of mood, and surprisingly polished. I managed to collect three stacks of five before I had to venture too far away and my bonfire went out!

Baby steps by freso 2019-10-09T21:00:17Z

Short & sweet & weirdly adorable!

BBBLZ TRBBLZ by smiley 2019-10-09T17:20:31Z

Cool graphics that mesh well with the music. The unusual free-roaming reticle aiming style was surprisingly fun to play with. XBox360 wireless USB controller worked fine on the web version. It was fun defending my bbblz farm from punks! Sometimes a punk would spawn in the middle of my bubble farm and go to town. Rude!

The Daily by huskitch 2019-10-07T22:42:48Z

Nice job, love the cute sketchy graphics!

The Card Crafter by Grhyll 2019-10-09T18:25:22Z

VERY fun crafting new cards. I would love to play a more fleshed out version of this, especially with just a tiny bit more graphic & sound polish. The gameplay is so compelling that I was hardly even distracted by the lack of sound!

Nottingham by nidjo123 2019-10-09T17:06:07Z

Fun and simple challenge. I love the chunky old-school first person textures and painterly color palette. Also good sequence of mechanical introduction, devoting a level just to showing how keys work, then ghosts. It could have used some minimal background music for atmosphere. Thanks for building and sharing!

My Friends Abandoned Me by SaRNEh 2019-10-09T18:39:06Z

Very challenging! I couldn't figure out how to get started. I guessed there was something to do with stacking boxes, but I could never figure out how to get back up once I dropped down, and I keep dying in one hit! Great job on the atmosphere, graphics and audio were stellar.

Strange Adventure by randdir 2019-10-09T18:32:02Z

My favorite line was, "I don't want to know. I don't want to understand. I care for my life." Nice art and music style!

Null Is Zero by Sunblast 2019-10-09T17:56:42Z

I love Baba Is You, and I love this! Level 4 was the hardest because I got confused about precedence rules. It was a little confusing to see programming conventions for equal signs in a non-programming context; I definitely don't think it would be clear to a non-programmer that "=" means "right-hand side is set to left-hand side" and "==" means "satisfy this equality statement". But once I figured it out I had a lot of fun. And completing 0==0 to exit at the end was such a cute detail! Very good job on this. Thank you for building and sharing it!

...Not Even a Body!? by snesgaard 2019-10-09T21:06:09Z

Oh no! :scream:

Clipboard01.png

Fortunately I figured out that Escape is reset a few seconds later.

Really fun launching myself out of the body for the win! My best time is 66 seconds.

Maw’d Hatter by jerripo 2019-10-09T19:17:06Z

Fun prototype! I liked discovering what all the spells do. The controls are a bit resistant; my character felt like she was sliding around more than I wanted, and sometimes it was hard to veer away from enemies in time. Especially with total loss on contact, it felt like pretty punishing difficulty. My favorite spell is teleport because I thought it was a cotton candy attack and instead I teleported directly on to a bad guy!

Raiders of the Lost Bark by Moritz Jaeger 2019-10-08T00:55:07Z

VERY cute. Unfortunately, I got lost in a dizzying and endless expanse of sand and thirsted to death!

Let's Run a Kingdom by SuperGamersGames 2019-10-07T23:04:33Z

Very cute graphics and good minimal music. I failed on my first turn three times in a row and kind of gave up, but it's quite adorable!

Let's Run a Kingdom by SuperGamersGames 2019-10-09T00:47:39Z

Hey, this turned out to be so fun! I'm glad you fixed the bug because I sat down with it and played until I figured out the basics. The most important thing was realizing that "Production" was actually a renewable resource each turn.

Once I got to ~8,000 gold, I cranked up Tax and Food Aid to offset the happiness decrease, and was just building as many farms as I could every turn. Eventually I figured out I could make more workers to make more farms per turn.

Between there and ~75k gold I was spamming clicks on Build Farm and then hitting next turn. That wasn't super fun, because it seemed like there wasn't much for me to do until I had 100k gold to build a wonder!

I was a little disappointed that there was no feedback for any of the choices, especially building the wonder. Even a little popup or sound would make a big difference.

Thanks for building and sharing this cute game!

Spooky Mansion by Jeremia 2019-10-07T23:32:36Z

So cute! Simple gameplay, fun music. I just can't get that key to that door yet!

Drop Dead by Alex Markoe 2019-10-09T19:47:00Z

Wow, a game I can actually beat! I love the art style.

ClockFall by lzklein 2019-10-07T22:44:24Z

I got a 404 when I went to the itch URL :frowning2:

Hamburger Defense by Gargantus 2019-10-09T17:28:25Z

It was pretty exhausting having to spam Shift fifty times to build anything! I had fun making my first three towers, but then I tried mining 150 iron to upgrade my punch, and it took way too long, I got overrun before I even made it to 100 iron. Cute graphics! And it's a cool idea to mine for resources in a tower defense game.

NOTHING : A sentient ascendency by Rooster And Frétillant 2019-10-08T00:02:39Z

The controls were a little too confusing for me! I was expecting WASD but it was more like... QSZX?

Soulless by Nithin 2019-10-09T19:42:04Z

Simple and compelling. It was too hard for me to finish, but I had a lot of fun with the rocket launcher especially!

SwordMaster by HiveMinds 2019-10-07T23:54:29Z

Couldn't figure this one out--pressing "F" didn't appear to do anything, so I didn't know how to fight the first enemy except to run past him, and then I couldn't roll over the barriers to poke the next switch.

SwordMaster by HiveMinds 2019-10-08T00:21:02Z

Oh, cool! I missed the important first text box on my first play through. This time it all made sense. I got to **The End (?)** and had fun on the way there!

Joe The Crafter by Benjo Games 2019-10-09T18:00:08Z

The source code link included an exe that ran on my Windows machine fine. Movement speed felt pretty slow. I died to a turtle before I could figure out how to craft anything! The graphics are very cute.

ONE PIX by essarrgee 2019-10-08T01:00:20Z

I couldn't beat the invulnerable final giant penguin! This was fun, and an adorable take on "start with nothing".

Afloat by Nigma 2019-10-08T00:49:47Z

Very cute prototype! I like the little swimming animation when he goes in the water.

Zombug Slayer by jordanvang 2019-10-08T01:13:11Z

This is a very fun prototype! The intro is hilarious (though should be skippable after first play so as to not be frustrating after dying). Gun mechanics were chunky and fun to play with. I died to the dual ghosts first, then to the massive horde!

Minno by --0 2019-10-09T18:54:57Z

Great idea, especially considering its exploration of the gamejam theme. Inventory controls were clunky and took me a while to figure out. It was very satisfying to solve the puzzles!

Jimbo's Ten Gallon Jamboree by fizzyjoe908 2019-10-07T22:54:03Z

I got the tall hat and axed my way out of the pig pen, but then I couldn't figure out how to get to the "real" dungeon even though I walked on to the pier and talked to the guy there. All he said was, "A switch or something could go here"! I liked the camera control and funny theme.

OH GOD! by SideKick 2019-10-08T00:33:01Z

Very hard! I could barely even get past the first few platforms. Cute game though!

Return to Nothing by SageWare 2019-10-09T20:13:06Z

This prototype was very fun to explore, even though nothing seemed to progress over time. The art is distinctive and beautiful, I loved looking at all the different planet types. At first I was trying to be as Malevolent as possible, but I accidentally destroyed all of the evil planets first and got an Angelic title! D'oh. Then I got a Malevolent win by hurling people into a lava planet, which was hilarious. After that, I tried to find a secret, clicking everywhere and roaming up close to planets to see if there could be something hiding on the surfaces, but after 4 or 5 games, I still couldn't find a single secret! Thank you for building and sharing.

Welcome to Nothing by Shookar Studios 2019-10-07T23:50:41Z

Such great atmosphere! I love what you were getting at with the art and music.

Monkey Mountain Holiday! by scalliondelight 2019-10-09T20:47:30Z

This game FLOWS. The music is spunky and silly, there's just a dash of dialogue to help set the mood. Combat is a bit of a spamfest, but the animations are distinctive, and I want to help this Luchaboar get the rest of his stuff back!

P.O.S.E.V.Y - [CROPS] by Banana090 2019-10-07T23:07:08Z

Couldn't really figure out how to get going. I start with zero everything and no apparent way to get more, then I start the night and the monsters get me.

There is no beginning without "Nothing" by VavouZen 2019-10-08T00:04:08Z

I was unable to extract this on my Windows 10 machine; 7zip reports "Unable to extract: not an archive".

Glorbo's Kingdom by DrewGodden 2019-10-09T23:38:34Z

A VERY difficult and fun game. It took me a few minutes to get used to splitting my fingers between the turrets on either side, and the inertia physics are very floaty and satisfying to learn.

Sow Happy. by changemewtf 2019-10-07T23:43:47Z

@jake-marks try mashing buttons!

Sow Happy. by changemewtf 2019-10-07T23:44:30Z

@robopossum We think the memory error has to do with pathfinding, maybe...! it happens just often enough to be annoying, but it is possible to get through the whole game without one

Sow Happy. by changemewtf 2019-10-07T23:44:48Z

Sorry about all the bugs, everyone

Sow Happy. by changemewtf 2019-10-08T22:21:50Z

Thank you so much for your feedback, everyone! Every reply is delightful, even if it's to say the game crashed. Just knowing people gave it a shot really makes our day. I'm making the intro a little more accessible and trying to fix up some of the main bugs. Thank you again!

Sow Happy. by changemewtf 2019-10-09T18:26:22Z

@bryvox @nidjo123 Thank you very much!

Sow Happy. by changemewtf 2019-10-09T19:23:33Z

@tom-adams Thank you!

@randdir Oh yeah, I think if we can do another update I'll lower the volume  Thank you!

@weine We didn't get to make it clear enough in the game, so I'll try to explain it here:

Each character wants a 9-tile square "home" of their own. In the center you have to put their house. The digging goggles guy lives in the lean-to with the log; the gasmask mohawk guy lives in the round boulder with a door; and the scythe guy lives in the farmhouse. In the other 8 tiles, you need to place tiles that the characters like. They'll tell you which ones they like if you walk near them and press "I" to Inquire about their preferences.

@snesgaard The placement is also a little weirder than ideal... placement happens from the center tile. So, sometimes, even if you walk up to the edge and press P, it won't place because an extension from the center tile would be placed over existing ground.

However, single tiles should always be able to be placed.

Eventually I want to have a little transparent preview of the placement with red X's on overlapping tiles, so it's clear why certain arrangements aren't allowed.

Sow Happy. by changemewtf 2019-10-09T19:26:04Z

@u-tsang-clan Yes, it definitely needs to be clearer! I tried to explain in my above post.

Hopefully someone will get to see the little victory animations after all! :smile_cat:

Sow Happy. by changemewtf 2019-10-09T19:32:32Z

@jerripo The intro should be more reasonable to get through now, so feel free to give it another shot. (There's a loud sound that plays after you fill the bar, but then the audio is very chill.)

Sow Happy. by changemewtf 2019-10-09T20:30:27Z

@asturk Thanks so much for trying our game! If you're interested in giving it another shot, I tried to explain the victory mechanics a little better in an above post. You have to give each character their own "home" surrounded by the tiles they describe when you press I to interact with them. I'm definitely going to keep working on this!

Also, if you enjoyed the music, the artist is on Twitter: https://twitter.com/LonePeakMusic

The track "Building Bridges" is available for download and royalty-free use, and we listened to it endlessly while we worked on the game. It really helped us find an atmosphere to go for with our gameplay.

Sow Happy. by changemewtf 2019-10-09T20:50:35Z

@grhyll Maybe it wasn't his house--the scythe guy has to live in the farmhouse. Don't feel bad... this isn't indicated ANYWHERE in the game yet.

Sow Happy. by changemewtf 2019-10-10T00:57:46Z

@noisypanda I'm so glad you liked it! The trick is putting their house at the center of the tiles they like. The goggles-digger lives in the log; the scythe guy lives in the farmhouse; the mohawk guy lives in the boulder. We kind of forgot to indicate that in the game... WHOOPS! I'll definitely check out your game and review it. I'm already loving the Adventure Time-style graphics

Sow Happy. by changemewtf 2019-10-11T23:23:47Z

WE FIXED THE OUT OF MEMORY ERROR!! Hooray!!

Enlightened by Tom Adams 2019-10-09T18:15:22Z

Soothing, simple. A bit unstructured, that's fine for a prototype! I liked the minimal background loop, it was just the right amount of sound.

Soulful by aconfusedragon 2019-10-07T23:48:28Z

Very cute! I got to 700 before I got ghosted.

Pug Dealer : An Underdog Tail by robopossum 2019-10-09T18:45:24Z

Hilarious!

Spellody by EvilScotsman 2019-10-09T19:08:22Z

I love the style of this, but I just couldn't "get" the mechanics. Just as I was figuring out how to kill bad guys by combining two runes and wanted to practice it a little, suddenly the dogs that take three runes to kill show up! The shape-casting mechanic seems really interesting, but because it's so novel, it needs a more gentle touch introducing it to the player.

I love accorgions so much though.
