Great game, great music and terrifying animals!
I have to say, you did a great job with the graphics in such a short span of time. One bug I noticed while trying to climb up is that boxes will "stick" to things, including other boxes. With this, I managed to make a flying machine to get up to the exit. Overall however, it was a nice challenge and quite fun.
A lot to unpack here. First of all the graphics are great, I'm a little lost on how this is related to the topic but, it has nice atmosphere and it looks very polished for the short amount of time youve had to spend on it. That being said the main game loop of gathering boxes to stack higher is hugely flawed due to how janky the physics end up being. I was able to beat the game with 5 boxes by getting them to float in mid-air. And stacking boxes itself is can be a real pain, because pressing E picks up the box you're standing on instead of just dropping the one you're currently holding. But it is what it is. The enemies are creepy and are well animated, I love the foggy aspect and if the bugs where ironed out it would be the start of a fun short game.
@simxple Thanks!
@travis-carlen Thank you. Since I'm a graphic designer, graphics was the easiest part. Coding though... The box issue is generally known to me. My idea was to give a player possibility to build a tower, platforms or whatever, so sticking boxes to each other is fine. However the physics is now unpredictable and flying machine effect you described is unwanted side effect, which I would like to fix.
@joellikespigs Thank you for your feedback! The main idea was to - as I described above - give a room with no platforms, so player can build them himself. I will try to fix it, but since I have to go back to my full-time job, it will take some time.
Lol, funny description, nice art.
@travis-carlen @joellikespigs Probably I've improved the phisics a little. It's not perfect, but it certainly is not worse than it was. It should be more enjoyable now. I encourage you to try it again. Would be grateful for your opinion.
More info in changelog in game description.
Yeah I liked it but it had a few problems
Sorry to hear they left you XD Shouldn't have done though, because this showed a lot of talent! Really enjoyable, proper spooky and the graphics built a very nice atmosphere. Some sound effects would have been the perfect finishing touch, but still very good!
I loooove the art in this game, it's amazing, Love that pixel art, and that synthwave soundtrack is so nice
Nice and polished art. Well done!
Love the art style!
Nice art and great atmosphere. It seems that it was telling a story of a man abandoned by his friend trying to climb out of the darkness of his heart? I am not sure tho.
By the way the physics of box is really confusing. The good point is that I only used 4 boxes to get to the exit so I didn't have to face those creepy spiders. XD
Very cool graphics (and spiders were creepy). Game was really fun but maybe you could add an easy mode were you have more than 1 health. And around the middle the volume went too high. But overall, fun game!
Congratulations for your game ! What made you choose Godot over the more "classical" choice Unity ? The graphics and colors come well together and create a really nice atmosphere, great work !
Nice platformer. These sneaky spiders got me a hundread times but it's pretty addictive. Also, for your bug tracking list, when I shoot spiders mid-air they stop falling. good job guys !
Good feeling with the art and the spooky environmental music, maybe some more guidance to the player will be good (A minimap metroidvania style would be ideal but almost impossible in a game jam :confounded: )
Cool game! But the game loop of backtracking and gathering boxes is a bit unfun. Like the enemies and shooting though.
@poundthegroundstudios Could you be more specific about issues you encountered? Maybe I will be able to improve some aspects.
@4quet Well, I am graphic designer and don't have much experience with programming. Ususally my friends were responsible for coding, but when they couldn't participate this time I had to figure something out in a hurry. I know Python a little and it was quite easy for me to switch to GDScript. In my opinion Godot is simpler for beginners and is still quite powerfull tool (especially in 2D).
@ferdi Bug on the list! I'll try to get rid of it in a while.
Being there bro =/ and 5 years later I mastered Construct haha :)
The graphics are perfect, color and all !! :D I just wish we have more lives, but even so the game is still fun and enjoyable! GJ and I hope more games come after this experience ;)
A nice platformer.
Brilliant idea, I hella like it. Kinda noir story from gamedev world. The most difficult part of this game is spiders. I mean, they really give me creeps. They are nearly larger than the main character! Fighting your own arachno fears seems to be a real challenge in this game. :D Overwall (and except the creeps) I had a lot of fun, playing this this game. Great work!
Very nice graphics ! The game is a little bit hard honestly ! But hey that's ok :)
Very challenging! I couldn't figure out how to get started. I guessed there was something to do with stacking boxes, but I could never figure out how to get back up once I dropped down, and I keep dying in one hit! Great job on the atmosphere, graphics and audio were stellar.
1st I love the environment, it's just great. The game doesn't have a lot of mechanics but it is really well designed. You shoot, you move, you pick boxes and there's 1 enemy. You don't need anything else to make a fun game experience. The exit sign is also a good way of instantly giving the player the objective of the game. "Go up!"
Nice graphics! I liked playing with the boxes and trying to break the physics lol.
A well made game, especially that you did it all by yourself. Impressive graphic, fitting audio and simple but investing gameplay. Congrats! And don't worry about your friends, we all had those situations on game jams with people suddenly quitting or just not contacting with the rest of the group. Nasz programista na przykład pod koniec jamu stwierdził, że ma już dość pracy nad projektem i zostaliśmy z masą bugów. Pozdrawiam z Polski :v:
@dane-tesla Pozdrawiamy :D
Gameplay is really smooth and clear, platforming feels fair. I did have some weirdness with boxes being placed into walls, and the music would sometimes stop for a while before looping again, but overall this was really good. I really liked the graphics with a simple palette of colours, worked really well, and the music was great! I also love the meta-theme of starting with nothing in terms of teammates, but you did a great job on your own haha.
