I'm hitting an out of memory error after placing 8 or so tiles on the hosted version. But it looks good from what I've seen so far.

$162477 2019-10-07 23:16

I can't seem to figure out how to place anything, all my key presses and button clicks don't seem to do anything besides displaying a slightly filled red bar on the screen which quickly depletes.

jake-marks 2019-10-07 23:35

Black screen with a red bar on the side when I click? Something seems to be wrong!

changemewtf 2019-10-07 23:43

@jake-marks try mashing buttons!

changemewtf 2019-10-07 23:44

@robopossum We think the memory error has to do with pathfinding, maybe...! it happens just often enough to be annoying, but it is possible to get through the whole game without one

changemewtf 2019-10-07 23:44

Sorry about all the bugs, everyone

jerripo 2019-10-08 00:30

Hello, I'm also having a hard time moving past the inital black screen with red bar. I've tried my best to mash buttons but it never seems to get higher. Is there another way to start the game?

pinosaur 2019-10-08 00:47

Love the intro, the graphics look amazing and quite goofy. Well done.

alex-markoe 2019-10-08 00:49

That was kind of a wacky experience.

nithin 2019-10-08 02:30

I liked the whole nothing puzzle at the start. Once the game started I just kept building. Sometimes the button wouldn't work but I loved the weird creatures that came out.

sageware 2019-10-08 02:31

Whoa, that took some strength to get that bar to full haha. Fantastic music, very relaxing. Its a bit difficult sometimes to place the terrain. I enjoyed meeting new characters. However, I ended up building to far and reaching the end of the game world. Still, a very relaxing and nice looking game.

shugor 2019-10-08 05:37

When I first filled the bar up at the start it crashed my whole browser right after saying "Everything" and I thought maybe that was an intentional artistic choice.

In all seriousness, I started it up again and it's a cool idea, I love the character designs a lot.

changemewtf 2019-10-08 22:21

Thank you so much for your feedback, everyone! Every reply is delightful, even if it's to say the game crashed. Just knowing people gave it a shot really makes our day. I'm making the intro a little more accessible and trying to fix up some of the main bugs. Thank you again!

bryvox 2019-10-09 16:18

I love the music and vibe in this game. Awesome concept and great use of the theme!

nidjo123 2019-10-09 17:40

Nice little game! Music is great and I really like how the main character looks and moves.

changemewtf 2019-10-09 18:26

@bryvox @nidjo123 Thank you very much!

grhyll 2019-10-09 18:46

This was so nice :) The intro is cool, but the world building after is really cool ^^ I tried to organize things in a cosy manner, with a forest and rocks inside, a more desert area... With the music it was really relaxing :)

There's just one thing I'm not too sure: are the creatures asking for a specific terrain arrangement to live there? I tried to satisfy them, like one of them said 1 house and 6 fields, so I put a house in a middle of 6 fields and other things, but that creature didn't seem interested in it :( Is there something to do to make them happy?

tom-adams 2019-10-09 18:47

Nice Game! Liked building my own little world. The art and music are very pleasant.

randdir 2019-10-09 18:56

Actually there is something interesting in progressing in this entry. Unfortunatly you break my ears with your first sound xD. Great job keep it up pal !

weine 2019-10-09 19:01

cool nothingness intro, although it doesn't mesh well with the rest of the game. The world-building part seems interesting, but I can't really figure out what to do. It seems like some kind of puzzle, but maybe unfinished or just not explained enough.

snesgaard 2019-10-09 19:14

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but the place function doesn't seem to work for me :(

u-tsang-clan 2019-10-09 19:20

I made it past the start screen but I could not figure out how to satisfy the creatures. I think there could be a little bit more in the way of explanation.

changemewtf 2019-10-09 19:23

@tom-adams Thank you!

@randdir Oh yeah, I think if we can do another update I'll lower the volume  Thank you!

@weine We didn't get to make it clear enough in the game, so I'll try to explain it here:

Each character wants a 9-tile square "home" of their own. In the center you have to put their house. The digging goggles guy lives in the lean-to with the log; the gasmask mohawk guy lives in the round boulder with a door; and the scythe guy lives in the farmhouse. In the other 8 tiles, you need to place tiles that the characters like. They'll tell you which ones they like if you walk near them and press "I" to Inquire about their preferences.

@snesgaard The placement is also a little weirder than ideal... placement happens from the center tile. So, sometimes, even if you walk up to the edge and press P, it won't place because an extension from the center tile would be placed over existing ground.

However, single tiles should always be able to be placed.

Eventually I want to have a little transparent preview of the placement with red X's on overlapping tiles, so it's clear why certain arrangements aren't allowed.

changemewtf 2019-10-09 19:26

@u-tsang-clan Yes, it definitely needs to be clearer! I tried to explain in my above post.

Hopefully someone will get to see the little victory animations after all! :smile_cat:

changemewtf 2019-10-09 19:32

@jerripo The intro should be more reasonable to get through now, so feel free to give it another shot. (There's a loud sound that plays after you fill the bar, but then the audio is very chill.)

asturk 2019-10-09 19:49

Well, i was getting the same problem as some people above, i could not figure out how to satisfy the people i was finding into the game....maybe their palthfinding was bugged yed! But i found your game really innovative and can really become a really great game if updated in the right way! nice job and congrats to everyone for this job!

changemewtf 2019-10-09 20:30

@asturk Thanks so much for trying our game! If you're interested in giving it another shot, I tried to explain the victory mechanics a little better in an above post. You have to give each character their own "home" surrounded by the tiles they describe when you press I to interact with them. I'm definitely going to keep working on this!

Also, if you enjoyed the music, the artist is on Twitter: https://twitter.com/LonePeakMusic

The track "Building Bridges" is available for download and royalty-free use, and we listened to it endlessly while we worked on the game. It really helped us find an atmosphere to go for with our gameplay.

changemewtf 2019-10-09 20:50

@grhyll Maybe it wasn't his house--the scythe guy has to live in the farmhouse. Don't feel bad... this isn't indicated ANYWHERE in the game yet.

grhyll 2019-10-09 21:22

@changemewtf Oooh okay :D I'd quite enjoy the game with a bit more polish, something that would stay this short but where it would be a bit easier to make them happy, and I'm pretty sure others would be as well :) Good luck if you plan to do a post jam version!

noisypanda 2019-10-09 23:31

This game was so relaxing! Everything from the music, to creating the tiles, had something that my brain liked. I wanted to satisfy the creatures and place tiles according to what they wanted but I couldn't figure out how.

We also created an entry for the jam in case you wanna check :)

josh-aaron-miller 2019-10-10 00:46

Neat! Reminds me of Dark Cloud in that you're building a town up, kinda.

changemewtf 2019-10-10 00:57

@noisypanda I'm so glad you liked it! The trick is putting their house at the center of the tiles they like. The goggles-digger lives in the log; the scythe guy lives in the farmhouse; the mohawk guy lives in the boulder. We kind of forgot to indicate that in the game... WHOOPS! I'll definitely check out your game and review it. I'm already loving the Adventure Time-style graphics

ben-ash 2019-10-10 01:28

Nice and relaxing. Took me a bit to figure out what to do, but a nice and soothing experience. :)

zimennik 2019-10-10 08:50

I very like idea of world building mechanic! I guess this should also work as mobile game.

pixamentory 2019-10-10 11:03

took me time to figure out, what i have to do!! keep improving graphics

lonewolfdev 2019-10-10 11:09

Nice mechanic this one of building the world, I like it! It's a pitty it has this "Out of memory" error.

taddl 2019-10-10 20:58

Interesting idea. I like the music and the gameplay(though the creatures weird me out). I even managed to figure out how to satisfy them, sadly I got an out of memory error on the third creature.

Still neat game overall.

changemewtf 2019-10-11 23:23

WE FIXED THE OUT OF MEMORY ERROR!! Hooray!!

kira45 2019-10-12 09:12

Interesting gameplay ! It's fun to build everything like you want, maybe needs to be a bit more guided but enjoyed it !

chocolat-endive 2019-10-12 21:16

Mecanics are really hard to figure, and the game is really hard once you've understand it. But the game is fun and placing the world tiles is cool. I really enjoyed the music!
