A great idea to make use of the bodies left behind by the player. The only thing that I would comment negatively on is that I managed to bug one of the maps because I managed to jump through a wall right after I re-spawned. Overall a great game! I died 19 times...

that is really fun and how you have to sacrifice yourself to complete levels!

Thanks for your feedback @malghoul :) There are a lot of collisions bugs I wished I had fixed. But I'm not very experienced in game development, this is my first jam and my first platform game, so I'm already glad I managed to get something done!
By abusing physics engine it's possible to finish the game with only 9 deaths, maybe less ^^

Very nice! I've seen this kind of idea in a lot of games, but I think it really works a lot better in this small area, and with limited player movement. I definitely think this would work well as a mobile game if it were to be fleshed out a little.
As with Malghoul, I encountered respawning bugs a few times where I got stuck or could jump over walls when respawning. I think the solution to this would probably just be to lock player movement when respawning, or have them respawn already on the ground. I also managed to walk off-screen a few times, which should probably be restricted.
Overall I like the game, and while it's a little short I had a good time playing it. Good work for your first game jam, I look forward to seeing what you make next time!

hehehe.
I love this game, I dunno why, I played it for at least 20 minutes XD. The mechanic of killing yourself to finish a level, although not so original proves time on time again to be fun, great job.
Ps: Bare minimun of deaths is one, as you need to kill one guy at 2-3.

Cute litte game! I used sort of the same mechanic for my game, but yours feel much more responsive... I should train more on platformer :)

Awesome game. Love the idea that you sacrifice yourself to complete the levels. Some levels have some bugs where you can go through a wall or something like that. But a very funny game to play. I got 7 deaths
That idea is so awesome! I wish there would be more levels :D There are some bugs, like going through walls and not getting hit by the enemies, but that's no big deal. The graphic isn't the best, but I love pixel art ;)

I like the graphics and the overall feel. Although you said you are the first time, but I feel your work is very surprising.

Not sure if this was intentional, but I found a double (sometimes triple) jump, it's a little inconsistent but I can trigger it by pressing in a certain rhythm.
Seems like it's theoretically possible to complete the game with only 1 death, using the triple jump and squeezing around certain enemies. It was fun trying, but I don't think I am skilled/lucky enough to reach this score!

I had a lot of fun playing this game. Great work and I like the sound

Thanks for your feedbacks all!
@morriss : it's my first game jam, but I started game development more than five years ago, but never managed to release anything, then totally dropped it for work the past years, and only get back to it recently. So that may explain why you found that very surprising
@mbc : no, that was not intentional at all XD But that's funny for me to see people playing it are trying to use bugs to finish it with the lowest death possible. It's flaws let appear emergent gameplay ^^

Really good for a first jam game! Ignoring the more general collision bugs, it would have been nice to have some friction when standing on a moving body. Other than that, this a simple idea, executed well. Great work!

This is really good for a first jam. Too bad the player didn't have animations but the fire was good looking ! Levels were well designed and interesting too complete but it was quite frustrating that the player movement did not follow when it was on top of something. Goog job anyway ! :)
Pretty cool! A bit bugged though. I managed to win on my second playthrough dying only 5 times. Overall really good entry!
The main mechanic is super clever! I laughed out loud when I first realized what was going on. I was super sad to only see 6 or so levels! Great job!

There are some buggy interactions with the sides of the screen, but the mechanic is a great interpretation of the theme. I just wish this game was longer! Well done, I'd have happily played another 20 or 30 levels.

Hey! Nice game and respect for starting in Compo ;) I appreciate the idea of killing your brothers for the public good, we had a familiar one :D

Nice game! I love the idea, and you manage to make it work throughout all your levels. The downpoint is, as others said, there are some glitches here and there (double jump, sliding through the walls) but it is overall pretty nice!
I've never tried PICO-8, is it easy to use?
Anyway, for a first jam, it's quite good actually. Congrats! ^^

Thanks all for your feedback, I too would have liked to do more levels, but I ran out of time and inspiration :p Maybe for a future update!
> @linky439 > I’ve never tried PICO-8, is it easy to use?
I don't know what is your experience in game development and programming. I learned gamedev with XNA almost 5 years ago, so compared to that Pico-8 is fairly easy, lol What I like in Pico-8 is that you have anything to create your game in a single software, from sprite editing and tilemap to sfx and music. But compared to some modern game engine that require nearly no coding, you need to code anything in Pico-8, there's no built in physics and collision engine, no animation editor or things like that. But I think it's really great to get things done really quickly, all tools are easy to use, and it's limitations (128x128 screen, 16 colors, etc.) forces you to keep it simple.

@oda Thanks for the answer! I'm mostly familiar with GameMaker but I also tried out some Gamebuino (basically an Arduino-console), which seems fairly similar to pico-8 judging by what you say. There are just a few built-in functions to do things such as load pictures, but the rest is all up to the programmer!
Fun little platformer, oddly enough the first PICO-8 game I've played so far (seems like there's been a serious drop). The art and music as with most PICO-8 games was really good and everything blended together really well. Only issue I had was that the hitboxes for the enemies were quite naff and that got me killed multiple times. Otherwise, really fun!
Haha. So cool! Really nice link to the theme and very addictive to play. I would love to see more levels!
Its nice, but maybe in future add more levels. More levels would be nice.
I love platformers, so i fell in love with this game very quick
Nice game which has been created under Pico. I like this little engine. The main gameplay is good and fits with the theme. For a first entry you did a very good game. I wish you the best ++

Nice to see a game made in pico! Managed to make it all the way to 2-3 without dying (on my like 5th playthrough.) was exploiting a bug where if you jump at JUST the right time before you hit the top of your jump arc, you can get a double jump in, which allows you to avoid most of the enemies.
Also, I was able to jump out of the end-scene level and fall infinitely... lol. I guess if I played it 5 or 6 times it must have been pretty fun :)
It was a bit glitchy and a bit short, but I liked the concept.

Completed with 12 deaths. From looking at the comments, that's not very good! Platforming felt a bit off at times, but otherwise this is a lovely, simple, addictive little PICO-8 entry.

Fun game. Thanks for making it!
Nice fun little game. Using your dead bodies as a raft was very clever. It seemed like if I held right after respawning I could sometimes fall through the wall and go directly to the exit. Good job on breaking up the levels, so that the player has to master one concept (jumping, double jumping, etc) before moving onto the next.
Nice game! There are many bugs, but it's nice for a ldjam game.
