LD42 — Running out of space

Bullet Farmer by CMLSC 2018-08-16T00:46:16Z

It's super pretty. I'm really impressed you were able to make those graphics in MS Paint. I didn't know I could double jump though for a bit :grimacing:

The Not Very Golden Age of Piracy by nuclearfriend 2018-08-16T01:52:26Z

This was great! From the screenshots it looks like it was going to be a tactics game but it's really a game about multi-tasking. I love all of the little verbal stingers and the art is great. I found the geometric gameplay really interesting although once I got into a groove I kinda wish there was some kind of little extra dynamic to keep track of. Still, it certainly kept my attention. Really well done :D.

I got 23 ships sunk  golden score.png

Terraform by Hi Im Greg 2018-08-16T02:46:00Z

I thought the music really fit the sci-fi vibe nicely and it had an interesting calm vibe. The teleport was interesting too but I didn't use it too much. It was also interesting accidentally fighting my way up at that mountain in the second area, only to find myself trapped and then jumping off it to escape xD. I wish the enemies did more to attack beyond just popping into cubes. It's basically the same thing as them killing themselves but robbing you of the points, almost like why bother killing them if they're just gonna kill themselves for you?

Ultimately I had fun with it though :) hs.png

Crystalmancer by Crowno 2018-08-15T22:01:38Z

The game was fun and I love the game-boy aesthetic. I'm glad you took the time to add palette swaps which I thought was a really nice touch.

I did find the hit box on the hammer frustrating though. I figured it was there to clear a path if you get blocked but since the hit box missed a little bit of the space right in front of the player it would get a little tedious to get the spacing just right to actually clear a path through the crystals. I wish I could just hold down forward and wack away to clear through it instead of having to step back a few feet to make sure I get the front part of the crystal.

Also I found it frustrating that the item icon blocked the health bar. I was pretty surprised when I died a few times because I didn't realize how low my life was.

Ultimately though, I really liked the look and feel of the game.

Data Runner (LD42-Jammer Edition) by acronaut 2018-08-16T02:08:32Z

The visuals and audio are really cool although it took me a second to realize what I was doing xD. I really wish there was a way to play with inverted controls. It seems like it's really a game about balance. Once one axis gets out of control it all falls apart xD. I never really figured out what space bar was doing though.

Follow The Light by DraperDanMan 2018-08-15T21:43:23Z

Hi Draper, finally got a chance to try your game. I liked it . I've always been fairly skeptical of first person platformers, I got some old memories of a few choice segments from the first Half Life games that I remember being a bit rough xD, but I thought it was interesting here. Kind of rhymes with Clustertruck.

I think by far the most enjoyable parts of the game for me were the places where you could just free fall from really high up from one hole all the way down through the second hole. It just felt really cool and I think there's something about seeing the floor flying up at you that creates a really interesting feeling, probably because a little bit of the fight or flight part of your brain is going off because any other time you would see that kind of visual it would be time to panic . I also thought the floating red cube mechanic was interesting and I would have liked to see more of that.

I wasn't always sure when the floor would kill you or not though. Sometimes it would trigger a fade out, other times you could just run to the hole, it felt a little off or something and I didn't really know when it was ok to hit the ground and when it wasn't.

Looking forward to seeing your next project  top score.png Also here's my best score :sunglasses:

head space by leviathon 2018-08-16T00:34:49Z

Interesting idea but unfortunately almost none of the blocks could get through :(. Also I had no idea what my score was and when I ran out of blocks the game never really ended :(. I was so torn about intentionally killing my green and red blocks to try and shift the pile :weary:

Survirus by AdultLink 2018-08-16T01:10:31Z

Really enjoyed the game. I was a little frustrated having to check what direction was what color but I guess that's just part of the gameplay xD. If that was all there was to it, I'd question the longevity of the game once the player memorized the colors/keys but the way it meshes with everything else it's just one more thing to keep track of. I really appreciate how fast-paced it is and how the exploit provides a built-in come back mechanic.

There's a lot of tension when everything is locked down except for one square. You keep hopping back onto to it to save it in the hopes it'll turn into an exploit soon and you can get back some of your space. It keeps you feeling like you're always in the game no matter how much everything piles up around, unless of course you lost a lot of tiles xD.

Really well done. Love the graphics and audio, the gameplay is genuinely compelling and it feels very fresh.

Tower of Destiny by Eric Schmiel 2018-08-14T19:59:21Z

Happy to reach out @draperdanman , always exciting to see what devs are working on ^_^. I'm really glad you liked it . I really wanted a chance to fine tune the dash but I ran out of time :grimacing:. I literally added the restart button 30 seconds before the deadline @_@.

The dash has a one second cool down which I think is the cause of it feeling kind of glitchy. Without some kind of visual or audible indicator or, heck, an actual animation for the dash, I think people will just think it's broken instead of intentionally delayed. Maybe if I reduced the CD so that you could dash almost right away after you finish a previous dash it would feel better. I think I might try to polish the game up a bit now that the jam is over. Right now the game has a kind of fatalist ending but I wanted to add a secret way to beat it ;). Plus some stuff like screen shake, or maybe having the wizard burst into particles with each hit and reform from particles when he spawns.

I'm really glad you had fun with it :grinning: I'm looking forward to trying Follow the Light.

Square One by BeveL 2018-08-16T03:17:49Z

Nice job ^_^. I thought it was really hard at first because I thought I had to get close to the items to pick them up. It got a lot easier once I realized I could just sweep the camera over some to pick them up. I had some trouble figuring out what was causing me to launch on the jump level.

LD49 — Unstable

Improbability Fighter by Wendel Scardua 2021-10-10T03:21:45Z

Definitely send me the post jam version. I really like the bones I see here and think this could turn into something really cool. Love the tetrimeno and tree ships. Definitely didn't expect that. Hope there's more hijinks in the future and keep making NES games.

Ark by ProdigalSon 2021-10-10T02:31:02Z

Great game. Really solid puzzles. Hard to design stuff but I think nailed some genuinely interesting puzzle designs that still felt fair.

Pillars of Stability by AMastryukov 2021-10-10T04:21:31Z

Nice tight resource management sim. I love the aesthetic and I found the puzzle engaging.

Feed Me Pizza! by yikescloud 2021-10-10T01:57:40Z

Everything aesthetically has such amazing cohesion. The art style, the animation style, the music and the narrative mesh so coherently and delightfully. Thanks for making this.

BALANCING ACT by anchorlight 2021-10-10T03:55:55Z

ITS A VIBE!!!!!! There's a REPULSOR RAY in my hand and PULSING SOUND in air. This game definitely has an identity and it wears it on its sleeve. Well done.

Boat History by etrealjunior 2021-10-10T01:31:25Z

I had really good time. Thank you making this.

Destructo by JPGFG 2021-10-10T01:07:56Z

The pacing of the upgrades were such that the store felt a bit irrelevent in the early stages of the game. It wasn't til my run was nearly over, that I had a reason to buy something. That said, I had a god time.

Climb Mountain by Neeko69 2021-10-10T04:43:47Z

Polishing the RNG and making sure there is a viable path through the intended platforming is going to be essential to bringing this closer to its original vision.

LD55 — Summoning

You Are Gnome-Caller by uvwar 2024-04-27T02:11:41Z

Truely horrifying. The gnome song is strangely compelling. I can't help but feel driven to unearth its secrets even though I know it will destroy me. 10 gnomes out of 10

You Are Gnome-Caller by uvwar 2024-04-27T02:11:55Z

I hear the gnome band outside my window each night

Etsa Djavul by foolmoron 2024-04-27T01:04:53Z

Really interesting idea. I like all of the feedback you provide with the scrawling sound, screen shake and the particles chipping off as you etch.

Summon Traffic Controller by Ben Albert 2024-04-27T01:31:40Z

I really enjoyed this! It's a nice escalation and the last level creates a lot of tension and helps illustrate where the concept can go. It wasn't clear to me that I had to be right on top of the guys though to pick them up at first, and there was some difficulty grabbing the exact one I wanted when a bunch were clustered together. I had a great time with the game though :) A+ for whee sounds

Thank you very much for your kind comments!

I decided to keep working on it after the compo period and I think I'm going to try to get a version together for a LDJam Extra submission. I already put a ton of work into the game this week, rewriting the codebase in a cleaner way and adding a bunch of polish, though it might wind up increasing the scope a bit too much . I got an outline for the puzzles and plot together and would love to get the chance to make a bunch 32x32 and 64x64 animated character portraits and item detail shots for it.

Hope ya'll check out the Extra version when I put it out down the road

Voiceborne by Blues 2024-04-27T01:40:10Z

Love the tunes and audio! I really struggled with pumping out guys fast enough to not get overwhelmed by cyclopses  but it's fun to drone into my mic *for power*

Throat singing seems OP

Voiceborne by Blues 2024-04-27T01:43:37Z

After messing with it some more, I was able to get guys to come out a lot faster going 'ba ba ba ba!'. I think I didnt realize going too loud into the mic was keeping the guys fom coming out but I was also basically holding my mic right up to my mouth

Demonware Incorporated by hamster cheeks 2024-04-27T00:50:02Z

This was great! I'm really impressed with all of the different mechanics y'all were able to get in. The opening song was a great way to work in some exposition and it was a delightful surprise discovering what demon you summoned after each game. Also love the art of the play area and the little hell hound sprite

Syzygy by dotblank 2024-04-27T01:53:47Z

I wasn't sure what was going on at first cause I went straight to the Itch page but I got hype as hell every time a demon moon was summoned
