It was fun to try to get the right melodies and challenging but not too challenging. I think I got all seven melodies, but there was no indication I had gotten them (unless I somehow missed something). I like the fun animations of the goblins--had a mischievous feel.

uvwar 2024-04-15 22:49

@scriveneroflight If you spawned a gnome and heard music you played it correctly, there's no endpoint of getting them all though, you can just keep making gnomes!

I was pulled in by the magical gnomes! I wish there was a hint for the combinations Otherwise I appreciate the simplicity and the atmosphere.

foolmoron 2024-04-16 12:08

There's something stupidly addictive about trying to make the fire bigger and bigger

salohcin894 2024-04-17 11:23

I screamed, I cried, I clapped. Thank you for allowing me to become Gnome Caller. Their tiny laughs and haunting melody will live with me till the day I die.

co5monaut 2024-04-17 19:22

It's dumb, but I had fun, thanks! Those gnomes are my love. This was the game I was looking forward to the most at the jam :D

Really good gnomes AND really good gnome songs. A full-fledged gnomesperience like no other. Trying to guess the long melodies makes me go a little bit insane but in a good way

maimai 2024-04-20 00:20

I wouldn't have known there was more than one song without the comments but I did get 5 melodies before going insane. GG

The silly gnome designs are great, though the weird background music made it really difficult to actually perform the main (er, only?) mechanic of the game. Like the other commenters mentioned, it definitely tests your sanity. :stuck_out_tongue:

That said, once you figure out what you need to do, it's super straightforward. Would have liked to see just a little more... something to it, perhaps to make it so you don't have to rely purely on length of the patterns to introduce challenge since the guess-and-check does get a bit tiring.

chibiata 2024-04-20 07:20

i dont get it... i played like 11 notes or so, still nothing happend. and then it got way to repetetive/too much trial and error. didnt get to summon one gnome :(

konstantinreed 2024-04-20 08:45

It wasn't easy, but I managed to pick the right melody. Good concept.

uvwar 2024-04-20 14:30

@chibiata Start with the first note on the left (summons a blue flame), then find the next note. The flame will stay blue if you're on the right track!

this is gruesome 10/10

Thanks for submitting your game to the stream! If you wanted to watch it again in the future heres the vod of the stream (with a chapter for your game)

And I'm the host for the ludum dare score chasers tournament this Ludum Dare. Wanted to ask if youre fine if I put some gameplay of the game in an intermission video. Last year for reference:

@ategon Thanks for playing! And sure you can use footage of it for the intermission vid.

This game is high art. It's so good it froze my browser on the first try (I wouldn't have it any other way). Those background sounds are particularly amazing.

eric-schmiel 2024-04-27 02:11

Truely horrifying. The gnome song is strangely compelling. I can't help but feel driven to unearth its secrets even though I know it will destroy me. 10 gnomes out of 10

eric-schmiel 2024-04-27 02:11

I hear the gnome band outside my window each night

kanity 2024-05-01 19:44

My browser froze when I tried playing ;_;

So I downloaded and at first it froze too but then thankfully came around ^^' I figured there should be a pattern to the notes but it didn't seem so. Clicking randomly I achieved a pretty big flame, but then it disappeared. This is where I have to state explicitly I have NO ear for music whatsoever. However, I called in my bf and forced him to play (he has an ear for music) and he gave up also ;_;

I saw some of gameplay on Tobugis stream and it looked fun, really liked gnomes' animation! If my assumption is correct and you have to recreate melody from background music, then I think it's a cool idea for a game (just for people who are good with music ofc! x))

uvwar 2024-05-01 22:55

@kanity Keep trying! It does freeze for whatever reason when a flame appears, but give your browser like 30 seconds and it should be fine after (I have no idea why, some godot thing). The background music is just there for show, the songs are each a unique pattern that have nothing to do with it. You can think of it more of cracking a code or picking a lock. You'll have to 'feel' your way, the notes aren't a completely random sequence, though. Start on the first note and keep going until the flame reaches its maximum and a gnome will appear and the song plays back for you. The first song is only 4 notes, the rest get longer from there.
