Can you upload something other than a rar file? Thanks!

adultlink 2018-08-14 01:32

Sure, here's a Google drive link, just click "Download all"

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1HLD0XMFR2bUZcu_O-9ipvi4BWNz7wq43

ice-maker 2018-08-14 01:35

Really neat gameplay, I kinda wish there was an "exit" button of some kind

adultlink 2018-08-14 01:39

Ohh I forgot to include a tooltip to mention you can pause the game by pressing Escape haha. There actually is an exit button :)

sciman101 2018-08-14 01:47

This is good! Super well polished, simple but addictive arcade-y gameplay, no complaints here! Good job

adultlink 2018-08-14 01:53

@sciman101 Thank you so much! A couple bugs here and there but I'm really happy with the result :)

bernhard 2018-08-14 01:59

Very cool game and very polished! Well done! It took me a bit to figure out that I needed to press the color matching arrow key to remove a file but then I slowly got better at it. I wasn't able to remember the arrow-color-code so I constantly had to peek to the upper-right before almost every file removal which hurt my eyes a bit. Ended up with a score of 3396.

I couldn't unpack the RAR file as well. Even though 7-Zip supports .RAR files but I guess it's some weird new RAR version? Maybe just pack things in a ZIP file because that's what everyone can unpack. Choosing compatibility over compression rate.

Edit: Oh, I guess you can just let the field fill up and then wait forever to get unlimited score?

adultlink 2018-08-14 02:17

@bernhard Hey thanks so much for your feedback! I'm having no issues unpacking the .rar with 7-Zip, but I hear you, I just replaced it with a .zip.

3396?! Holy shit I'm shit at my game XD

Regarding unlimited score. The antivirus (the flashing red cross of death) should be able to catch you when you can't move anymore, but I'm aware there are a couple bugs here and there, and sometimes the antivirus just doesn't work. Oh well, just like in real life :D

bernhard 2018-08-14 02:33

Ahh, guess my 7-Zip needs to be updated >_< If it were just for me I'd distribute my games as .7z but having ZIP support in Windows Explorer is a pretty good argument for it, haha.

Can you play it blind without looking to the arrow chart? I tried to remember it but getting it wrong is worse than losing a sector so I always take a peek to make sure.

adultlink 2018-08-14 03:18

@bernhard Yeah I can play without looking 90% of the time, but at some point locked sectors start piling up and it all goes south haha. Looks like you are good at it, and I really appreciate your comments!

mowztouch 2018-08-14 03:20

Good Entry ! Your game looks pretty complete, catchy graphics, and gameplay is intuitive. I liked it. And as a solo dev too, well done, you finished your game :)

adultlink 2018-08-14 04:18

@mowztouch Thank you so much! :)

handle 2018-08-14 04:26

Very clever game! The graphics are fantastic and the gameplay is great after I figured it out. I did seem to get stuck on some squares when moving quickly and was unable to move for a bit. I'm not sure if that's an intended mechanic, but if so I didn't understand how I triggered it.

The UI and menu design are super clean and satisfying.

nam-nguyen 2018-08-14 04:39

Took me a while to get used to the rules. I guess I was like everybody else, jumping straight into it and not knowing what I was doing, and then going back to main menu to see the rules again haha. This game scores really high for me, it fits the theme, looking graphically awesome, music is nice, great complexity. Great job! Keep it up!

erebus 2018-08-14 06:14

Great game! Thanks for bringing it by the stream!

adrianfl 2018-08-14 12:08

Hey, great game, one of the best games I've played from this LD so far, congratulations!

Simple but catchy, and makes you want to keep playing it

chronodrax 2018-08-14 12:55

Great game overall and well polished for a LD game, I love the graphics and the sound fits perfectly :) But at the end of the game if you end up on a pattern with at least 3 similar adjacent tiles, you can survive an infinite amount of time by jumping from 1st to 3rd tile of the pattern everytime the antivirus appears. To increase the challenge and duration of a game you may either increase the size of the antivirus or the number of them appearing over time, and maybe once there's no empty time left spawn bonuses over used tiles and even swap some used tiles to another color/icon ? I'd love to test again a more balanced and challenging version of the game :)

adultlink 2018-08-14 15:54

@handle Hey thanks for your feedback! Yeah that is intended, you are not supposed to be able to jump from a locked sector to another locked sector with a different color, but you can always move to/from unlocked (gray) or flashing sectors :)

Glad you liked the gameplay and visuals!

adultlink 2018-08-14 15:55

@erebus Thank you for giving it a shot, and for the valuable feedback! :)

adultlink 2018-08-14 16:22

@chronodrax Thanks for the feedback! Yeah there are some fringe cases in which things dont work out the way they are expected to, I'll definitely work on ironing those things out since I'm planning on continuing development.

Thank you for the tips on balance. I have some ideas on how to make it more challenging and diverse :)

adultlink 2018-08-14 16:25

@adrianfl Thank you! That's what I was going for :)

outstar 2018-08-14 18:06

Once I realized what the actual rules of the game are, I could easily understand what mistakes I've been doing - I think you could add a little bit more flashed out tutorial/rules to help players understand what they should do.

In general, it was a very good take on the running out of space idea - instead of doing another drive cleaning simulator, you turned it around a bit and make the player a virus, which was very smart!

Good luck in the jam :)

adultlink 2018-08-14 19:22

@outstar Yeah I really need to implement a tutorial in which I can introduce all the elements one by one, otherwise it is just too much information at once, buuut not enough time :(

Thanks for your feedback! I'll make sure to pimp out the page haha :D

foolmoron 2018-08-14 20:26

Incredibly fun game. The graphics make the simple 2D grid was more interesting than it should be, but they are not distracting. It's very easy to zone in and get into the game. The mechanics have just the right amount of confusion with the colored directions, so even if you're fast you still make a mistake here and there and slowly bleed out and lose. The end game when you just have a quarter of the level left gets really intense and fun too. You have to be perfect or else it all falls apart. I think the rules for going across colored blocks could be more telegraphed though. I couldn't really tell intuitively whether I could go across a block or not, even though the rule itself it pretty simple.

flubz 2018-08-15 00:00

Audio was a bit distracting wasn't sure if bug or not but I couldnt click on the arrows? Loved the graphics, gg!

adultlink 2018-08-15 14:43

@foolmoron Hey thanks for your elaborate comment! I'm working on ideas to improve visual clarity, cause I feel like it's a bit too confusing right now sometimes.

adultlink 2018-08-15 14:44

@flubz Hey, you are not supposed to click on the arrows, you are supposed to use the directional arrows on your keyboard. I agree rules and controls might be confusing. Thanks!

jorbits 2018-08-15 16:08

I enjoyed this game. The bloom effect really fits the game and the camera movement is very well done.

But there is one problem with the game. What happens, if I never destroy sectors of one specific color. In the end I'll have a field to move around and will never lose.

bigbosserndog 2018-08-15 17:00

A very fun and frantic game! I think there's a bit too much to take in at the start of the game. Perhaps it could explain a bit of the gameplay every time you die. But once you understand everything, it's a lot of fun, albeit very frantic. My fingers couldn't catch up XD

adultlink 2018-08-15 17:06

@jorbits You are absolutely right! And the first one to mention that too haha. Yeah I need to come up with some other mechaninc to prevent that :)

Thank you for playing and for your feedback!

adultlink 2018-08-15 17:45

@bigbosserndog Thanks for playing it! Yeah I agree, too much information all of a sudden, I've gotta work on a tutorial screen. I really like the idea of a giving a hint everytime you die, thanks!

devio 2018-08-15 18:27

Enjoyed this game and the difficulty, Congratulations. Stunning visuals, Good subtle audio and intense but possible gameplay. It was difficult at the start to remember the direction colours, but after getting a small grasp of them the game became easier. This is a game that requires skill only available by playing the game. I cannot think on the top of my head any cons. Would have been nice to have a tutorial mission, but due to time, I understand why there wasn't.

flower 2018-08-15 20:04

Very cool game! Graphics are awesome!) Concept is really interesting

noah-beckman 2018-08-16 00:45

This game looks VERY cool Graphically and is quite difficult! Well Done!

eric-schmiel 2018-08-16 01:10

Really enjoyed the game. I was a little frustrated having to check what direction was what color but I guess that's just part of the gameplay xD. If that was all there was to it, I'd question the longevity of the game once the player memorized the colors/keys but the way it meshes with everything else it's just one more thing to keep track of. I really appreciate how fast-paced it is and how the exploit provides a built-in come back mechanic.

There's a lot of tension when everything is locked down except for one square. You keep hopping back onto to it to save it in the hopes it'll turn into an exploit soon and you can get back some of your space. It keeps you feeling like you're always in the game no matter how much everything piles up around, unless of course you lost a lot of tiles xD.

Really well done. Love the graphics and audio, the gameplay is genuinely compelling and it feels very fresh.

Here's my high score.score.png

jonasz999 2018-08-16 12:14

Wow! The game gets so intense

I really had a bless playing it! Graphics are very appealing and the controls are well designed for this type of grid-based movement. I was also very amused by the fact that the instructions were straightforward and polished.

#### Here is my high score after 3 attempts  Survirus - My HighScore.png

The only issue I had was UI scaling. I have a 21:9 aspect ratio monitor and unfortunately I had to play at a lower resolution, since at 2560x1080 the interface was being cut off :slight_frown:

UI scaling issue.jpg

lootgrounds 2018-08-16 12:34

I'm not an expert, but the game draws for the best game of the month in Google Play. Visual style, gameplay and graphics at the height! I would add more items of different types and let out under mobile phones. Cool work, congratulations!

xphere 2018-08-16 13:16

Loved the fast pace and this twist to the theme, enjoyed a lot playing, thanks!

linus 2018-08-16 19:14

Really awesome game, it works well on Linux too. This is indeed a fast paced game, I had a hard time to keep up especially in the beginning since I kept forgetting which arrow key corresponded to which colour.

I kept pausing and looking, maybe that's why I should "feel" and not think , but having an arrow below the countdown would be very helpful atleast in the beginning as a tutorial mode so you memorize the colours.

Really cool game overall, the virus added to the stress and you really had to focus to make sure you don't get stuck on tiles with the same colours. Sometimes when the virus appeared I was unable to move anywhere and I assume that's because I had different coloured sectors around me. I think you should be able to escape from the virus even if the sectors mismatch.

peachtreeoath 2018-08-18 04:39

Geez what a polished game... it looks incredible and it feels great too. Some definite Geometry Wars vibes here, you did amazing. The gameplay is really tight and reminds me of playing Stepmania doubles on keyboard lol, just mashing wasd and arrows like crazy. I like the decision making you have to make in the game as there's quite a lot of routes you can take at any time. I'll definitely follow you on future games and look forward to seeing what else you can do.

auxc 2018-08-19 17:33

I had a lot of fun playing this. Gameplay feels dynamic and satisfying and is supported by graphics and audio that fit together into a consistent and very polished whole.

I wonder if there is a way to make it so that the game requires less peeking at the color cheat sheet. I found myself doing that quite often, despite trying my best to 'feel' more than I was 'thinking'.

Apart from that small dissonance I only have praise to say about this one. It looks good, feels good and leaves me wanting to play again after I lose. My favorite part is that intense moment when you fight over the last few remaining spots, frantically clearing one sector after another and hoping for that clutch Exploit to catch some breathing room and drag the game a little longer.

Impressive stuff, one of the best games I've played so far!

tommytheitguy 2018-08-19 18:06

Very fast paced, got my adrenaline up a bit. Fits well with the theme and I always like neon graphics. Well done sir.

kiirohanabi 2018-08-20 17:41

A really great game!! Really polished, good graphics and audio, and especially good mechanics! I had a lot of fun as you can see on my screenshot.

There's only two things I'd like to point:

- Associating a color with and arrow keys is really difficult in general, that's why rhythm games put the color on the key more than just displaying color blocks. In your game I had to constantly go back and forth between the color mapping on the top right and the level to know which arrow I need to press. I think that if you managed to put the arrow shape on the block, it would have been so much better! But then you'd need to display the countdown in a different way, so it needs proper thinking and design (ergonomics yay! :D)

- It was quite frustrating that the antivirus blocked me from grabbing exploits and unlocking sectors when it was in the same spot. While playing it felt unfair to know that a sector would be locked because of the antivirus and not because of my lack of skill or anything. I can understand that an antivirus would try to block me, of course, but when it comes to players I think it's better to avoid unfair frustration.

But other than that it was really fun to play your game, great first LD entry ever!!!

firesplash-entertainment 2018-08-20 18:46

Just rated the game! My suggestions are to make the difficulty start easy and increase over time. What about just starting with one color and more time and increasing the number of colors as wella s decreasing the time the more score you have?

adultlink 2018-08-21 16:57

@devio Thank you for playing my game! I loved your chill stream, I hope to see you streaming more regularly :) I'll be working on a post-jam version and I'll probably add a tutorial. Good luck man! :)

@eric-schmiel I like to think remembering the color code is part of the "git gud" process haha, but I can see it being annoying to most people that play it for the first time.

I feel the exploit mechanic is nice but it could be improved to benefit the player even more. I was thinking instead of triggering the effect the moment you pick it up, you could choose when to use it. This way the player has more of a choice in regards to strategic playing, and it's not just reacting to the board.

Thank you for your thoughts! :)

@jonasz999 Ahh I'm so sorry about the UI scaling issues! :( I must admit resolution concerns were not at the top of my priorities by the end of the jam. Thanks for making me aware of it! :)

@lootgrounds I'm seriously thinking about a mobile release after a few tweaks and gameplay improvements. Thank you for playing! Glad you liked the visuals.

@xphere Thank you for your kind words! :D

@linus Yup, definitely needs a tutorial or some other way to ease the player into it. I also need to revisit the no-jumping-between-different-color-locked-sectors (phewww) rule. It might be a bit confusing at first, but for now it is necessary for the game to end! Otherwise you could just move around for as long as you wanted :D Thank you!

Are there any issues whatsoever with the Linux version? No slowdowns or visual glitches?

adultlink 2018-08-21 17:25

@peachtreeoath I was going for a tight and staisfying gameplay so I really appreciate your kind words. Thank you for your support :)

@auxc Yeahhh I need to find a way to make it more intuitive, or I can just say it's part of the learning process :D Thank you for your thoughts! I'm glad you found the exploit mechanic fun! I also think it's quite nice and it feels good when you pick one up just before the antivirus fires :D It could use some improvements tho.

@tommytheitguy Thank you for your feedback! :)

@kiirohanabi Yup, sector real-estate is at a premium haha! On the antivirus point, I completely agree, it should not prevent you from pickinp up an exploit, and regarding sectors, it also shouldn't allow the countdown to continue, it should just pause it and resume after it fires I feel like. You are absolutely right about player frustration, unfair mechanics are never fun and drive players away.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts :)

@firesplash-entertainment Hey thanks for playing my game on stream, I hope I can catch you online again! Those two suggestion will definitely be considered for future versions, especially starting with just one color. Thanks!!

linus 2018-08-21 20:40

@adultlink It worked well on Linux without any slowdowns or visual glitches as far as I can tell, not sure though if the game is supposed to be much faster than what I experienced but I thought it was quite fast so I'm sure it works as intended

adultlink 2018-08-21 22:04

@linus It must be working properly then :D Thanks

crave 2018-08-22 06:46

Came to rate back and i must say, this game really impressed me! Its pretty fun and fast paced, graphics are solid too.

My only gripe was that it wasnt intuitive from the get-go, though its expected since its based on a specific set of rules.

Great Game!

rend 2018-08-22 13:29

I love the aesthetics and the amount of polish is impressive. My main concern is that I wanted to start to play right away so I didn't read the instructions and started moving on the board. I could infere some rules (I guess), and others were more cryptic to me. But in the end, even without knowing the rule, I entered either a bug or a design loop hole and the game started to be "infinite" without any difficulty ramp. I was just avoiding what seems to me as an explosion zone and stepping from time to time on a yellow circular saw. I got more than 10000 but I stopped out of boredom. And then I decided to read the full instructions, and they were way more complicated than I believed they'd be. So I thought that my way of playing was more rewarding (more points), yet didn't require me to understand the rules. I'm not sure that's what was intended design-wise  But I'm still impressed with the polish and I had some fun playing, that's what matters! survirus.jpg

shakedimus 2018-08-22 22:16

Everything about this game is cool and so well thought out. The little text in the beginning, the explanation of controls, the way the puzzle aspect works. The audio and the visuals work so well together to provide a tense, exciting gameplay! Great job! This deserves a high ranking!

zinski 2018-08-23 15:19

I found the concept of this little action game really interesting! I loved the minimalist graphic style and the visual effects! In addition I found the grip really intuitive even if it's a little fast when you start! I think with some additional feedback (in addition to those already existing) this game would be even better! Great job! :)

By the way please feel free to leave us some feedbacks on our game!
