LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Kritter Keeper by Archimagus 2017-12-18T18:46:03Z

Very nice entry!

The game fits the theme perfectly

I loved the fact, that you can throw these creatures outside the screen and they would come back every time!

I was also impressed by the level of refinement of this project.

Prinsen Gulden by King Kujito 2017-12-17T21:35:22Z

Wow! Graphics and background music are just amazing!

The game is well-polished and overall I'm really impressed

I'm Driving My Truck by vilcans 2017-12-26T17:20:37Z

My thoughts:

* The soundtrack is really pleasing, I enjoyed listening to it a lot  * Sound effects (like engine sound) could be a little quieter * Graphics are cool, especially the wheels of the truck! * The game is pretty hard, because of the elevators, which are very wobbly

**Finally, I'm surprised that your game has such a small amount of reviews. It is a pity, since your entry is really noteworthy...**

Damage Control by ThatRumme 2017-12-22T11:01:22Z

Very nice entry!

The game is really entertaining, especially when you play with the highest damage factor

Controls are well-done and the gameplay is very dynamic. However, I would add greater variety of background music and sound effects, since they get boring pretty quickly.

Octopode embrace by ThiefViolinist 2017-12-17T22:22:40Z

Pros:

* Amazing graphics * Solid use of theme

Cons:

* Aiming mechanics are really poor * Sound effects are a bit too loud

Unfortunately, I couldn't keep playing because of this issue:

Przechwytywanie.PNG

It happened when the tower, which is located in the middle of the map, started to attack enemies.

I'm using Windows 10 & latest version of Google Chrome

Houston, we have a problem! by Egor 2017-12-17T22:54:45Z

Nice game, however a bit too short and too easy.

I loved to refill the Coffee Machine during space expedition

I would recommend making scroll faster, since it took ages to scroll through the right panel (under "Sabotage" button).

Games Games Games by mhsco 2017-12-27T23:55:54Z

Great idea, that was well-implemented

Dish Rush by WirkilichKeinBaum 2017-12-17T22:12:36Z

Very cool game! However somehow my score didn't want to save, even after reloading the game... (I'm using Windows 10 & latest version of Google Chrome)

I'll Take You To Tomato Town by adamgryu 2017-12-27T23:35:04Z

For now, **the best Ludum Dare 40 game** I played!

I absolutely love the humor (i.e. product names, special offers and voice calls )

Too Many Chooks by Schu 2017-12-13T03:10:16Z

Long story short:

Simple concept, very fun game

However I managed to find a little bug.

Here's a gif that presents this issue Bug.gif

To the glory of the great North Korea by Jonasz999 2017-12-09T23:55:36Z

@wobbleboxx *Thank you for your review!*

In the latest update I addressed these issues

I do hope, that the game will now be more entertaining. Remember, that if the game seems too easy, you may always change the difficulty level in the options on the fly. If you do so, the next wave will be of that difficulty.

If you have any further observations, please do share them with me. I would love to make this game very enjoyable

To the glory of the great North Korea by Jonasz999 2017-12-12T02:11:41Z

@jack-maxwell

**First of all, thank you for your time.**

Secondly, did you try to run the game in different browser? I believe, that this bug does not exist in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

I will look into this issue and try to resolve it as soon as possible.

```(...) you cannot make any balance changes or add any features after the deadline, you are only allowed to fix bugs.```
I believe, that you may work on your game even after the competition finished, but you have to include link to the original game.
```CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.```

@flubz *Thank you for your review!*

As far as I understand the rules for Jam competition, it is not necessary to mention the source of base code. Moreover, I have written every line of my source code and heavily modified it many times. I have recorded the whole process of making this game and soon I will post timelapse on my YouTube channel.

But as you said, still it would be nice to mention Brackeys and I will do it right now!

To the glory of the great North Korea by Jonasz999 2017-12-17T21:21:53Z

@king-kujito *Thank you for your feedback!*

In my mind I had the idea, that game gets harder every wave, since enemy's health and their amount increases.

So, the more waves player survives, the more difficult it gets. It seems to me, that it fits pretty well the theme: "The more you have, the worse it is".

Lastly, I would love to have made more sound effects, however I didn't have enough time during the competition. I will certainly add them in the near future to the post-jam version!

AdBlock Doesn't Work! by talisra22 2017-12-22T10:47:07Z

Very simple yet so funny game

I absolutely loved videos in the background! I would definitely play this game on mobile to kill some time.

I have found only one issue. Playback time slider is a bit off (it should be more or less in the middle). Here is a screenshot of it.

Just Another Day by DraperDanMan 2017-12-27T23:47:44Z

Very cool game! I had a lot of fun reading all of the conversations

Pub Crawler by GiraffeCat 2017-12-17T22:42:01Z

Very nice game, I enjoyed playing it a lot!

Graphics are really amazing and I'm also impressed with the amount of objects, that you can bump into

The effect of getting drunk is well-made!

Run Guys by arron-fowler 2017-12-13T16:33:10Z

Simple game, yet very fun to play.

I would totally play it so as to kill some time

Grim Reaper by Lamossus 2017-12-17T13:47:50Z

Cool game, however I would add some more visible representation of hitting the enemy (maybe red color, blood or particles?). Moreover I would also make map boundaries as something that you can see, like mountain or something.

And is there any possibility to quit game? I couldn't find any button that would do this, so I used Alt+F4.

And lastly, I think that this game fits the theme very nicely

Fast Frontier by Ohmi 2017-12-18T18:34:33Z

Pretty nice as for the first entry.

However, I got really annoyed by the gun mechanics. I would change it, so that the gun is independent from the tank chassis, since when you ride forward the terrain changes in height and thus the gun jumps up and down.

After all, I enjoyed playing the game, but there is a lot of possibilities of future improvement

Lore Finder by Eniko 2017-12-26T17:48:08Z

Wow! Very cool platform game, music is really pleasing and the mood of the game is just great

LD42 — Running out of space

Path of Excess: Hoarder vs Horde by quill18 2018-08-15T10:54:53Z

I really enjoyed playing the game. On my first try, I managed to achieve the 16th level (I don't know whether that's good or not 😅)

My first score.png

I admire the fact that you have implemented various difficulty levels. I think it helps new players get a little bit easier into the game.

The only thing that I would have done differently is the tutorial at the beginning of the game. I believe the instructions are a bit tedious... Maybe next time you could add to them some simple graphics or screenshots from the game with little notes over them 😉

Farms and Polders Tycoon by sebbernery 2018-08-19T14:50:02Z

I enjoyed playing the game. It's very impressive that you managed to create so advanced game using these technologies

I was a bit surprised that it's impossible to rotate the buildings. Also, I had a hard time understanding how the seawall works. Maybe you could add some information about it in the instructions.

But even though, I think the game is a very good entry, good job!

However, unfortunately, I had **a lot** of issues regarding not only the gameplay, but also the performance. Farms and Polders Tycoon - Rendering issue.jpg

After about 15 minutes I experienced severe performance issues (the game suddenly dropped from 60 fps to almost 0) and sadly it never recovered. Here is a screenshot of the Chrome task manager. I'm running the latest version of Chrome at the moment (68.0.3440.106). Farms and Polders Tycoon - CPU usage.jpg

Space Invader - File Explorer Edition by MadreDeDios 2018-08-16T15:50:38Z

You recreated the Windows interface very well. You even added boot screen & BSOD, that's really cool

I was also amused by the fact that you can navigate between folders not only using the menu on the left, but also through the top breadcrumb.

However, I have to say that the game gets boring pretty quickly. For me, it was fun to play only for the first time :slight_frown:

Don't Let 'em Fall! by Jonasz999 2018-08-15T10:03:22Z

@newokmyne Thank you very much for the review. I really wanted to at least add some basic sound effects, however, this time I just didn't plan out things well enough 😅

Don't Let 'em Fall! by Jonasz999 2018-08-15T10:08:11Z

@monkosum Thank you for the feedback 🙂

Don't Let 'em Fall! by Jonasz999 2018-08-15T11:01:13Z

@adultlink I'm very happy to hear that you have enjoyed playing the game 😃

You understood it correctly - during this Ludum Dare I had my first experience working with NavMesh. Firstly, it was a little bit of a hustle, but after some time I managed to create something out of it 😅

Don't Let 'em Fall! by Jonasz999 2018-08-21T13:09:48Z

@tlcoc Thanks for the feedback

Units are hard to click on  That's a bit odd. Did you only use **Left Mouse Button** to select the units, or have you tried box selection (**Left Mouse Button** + **Drag**)?

Don't Let 'em Fall! by Jonasz999 2018-08-21T14:09:26Z

@vekstr Thanks for the review!

Unfortunately, yes, the lack of sounds in the initial release is normal. This Ludum Dare I didn’t have enough time to create any music/sound effects for the game :slight_frown:

But if you mind hearing some SFX, then I'd recommend trying out the latest release (Post JAM)

Don't Let 'em Fall! by Jonasz999 2018-08-23T16:14:58Z

@zinski Thanks for the feedback!

By the way, I already reviewed your game and I have to say, I really enjoyed playing it

The Flopp by Sanguis 2018-08-16T14:02:50Z

I really liked the concept of map changing based on collecting floppy disks. However, I have to say the controls and character movement is quite clunky.

On the other hand, I think that you absolutely nailed the instructions. They were very descriptive and intuitive. Teaching the player game mechanics step by step makes the tutorial not daunting

**After a few tries I managed to complete the game, so it's definitely possible** The Flopp - Win.gif

Unfortunately, I had some issues with collision detection. Sometimes the character just goes through moving objects :slight_frown: The Flopp - Collisions bug.gif

Get off my shelf! by OnePlusOne 2018-08-16T18:01:30Z

I don't know why, but I enjoyed trying to get onto another shelf more than fighting for the place on the middle one

#### It is way more peaceful on the other shelves  Get off my shelf! - Another shelf is better.png

**But now for real, I really enjoyed playing the game!** It feels so calm and relaxing for me. And I absolutely loved the way you placed the instructions on the side of the box

Placeholder by Maroovan 2018-08-23T19:58:29Z

I really enjoyed playing this game. The concept fits perfectly the theme *Running out of space* I also liked the mood created by the scary music and suitable graphics.

However, the game became a bit boring when I found out that the world has no bounds. I just built a big platform far away from the enemies' spawn points and then it was very easy to kill them from the distance.

I managed to achieve this score just after 3 tries  Placeholder - My HighScore.png

Unfortunately, I had some issues with mouse cursor going out of the game windows onto another screen. This effectively made the game unplayable until I unplugged the secondary monitor. Moreover, my main monitor has a 21:9 aspect ratio and sadly the UI didn't scale appropriately :slight_frown: Placeholder - UI scaling issue.png

Forklift Frenzy by malif 2018-08-16T17:22:28Z

The low-poly graphics are so appealing  I enjoyed them a lot, especially considering the fact that it is a Compo entry. However, having said that, I was a bit disappointed with the UI design.

Moreover, the instructions were straightforward and easy to understand.

I was trying really hard to find a bug during the rotation with something in the air, but surprisingly I wasn't able to - I'm really impressed

Survirus by AdultLink 2018-08-16T12:14:37Z

Wow! The game gets so intense

I really had a bless playing it! Graphics are very appealing and the controls are well designed for this type of grid-based movement. I was also very amused by the fact that the instructions were straightforward and polished.

#### Here is my high score after 3 attempts  Survirus - My HighScore.png

The only issue I had was UI scaling. I have a 21:9 aspect ratio monitor and unfortunately I had to play at a lower resolution, since at 2560x1080 the interface was being cut off :slight_frown:

UI scaling issue.jpg

XORN: The Fallen God by ThibaultAr 2018-08-19T15:38:05Z

Wow! That's probably one of the best entries I had seen this Ludum Dare

The visuals are just stunning. Very beautiful particle effects. I also enjoyed the background music.

However, the AI for the enemies definitely could be better. It was very frequent to see an enemy falling through the hole.

When I first played the game I got a bit confused by the controls. I thought that the arrow designates the direction in which the **W key** (or Z) will move the character. Only after some time I realised that they are not related to each other

WearOut by Abhis1Kadian 2018-08-22T21:51:03Z

I really liked the music in the main menu, it reminded me a little bit of Fallout & Cup Head  The introduction was also nicely done. I enjoyed the graphical style throughout the game. However, the sprite of the enemies seemed kind of odd, like it didn't fit into this world.

And unfortunately, I have to say that the game lacked a lot in terms of gameplay. This aspect of the game really requires some advancements and polishing. I just kept spamming **W key** and got bored after a while :slight_frown:

After all, congratulations on finishing your first Ludum Dare game! No one said it will be easy to create a game in 72 hours, but you managed to do this, so good job!

Park & Match by Carlos Giraldo 2018-08-16T16:23:12Z

Very relaxing game and it fits the theme perfectly!

I liked the idea of telling the player why he lost and what he should do next time to avoid this type of gameover

However, I was unable to download Windows version. For some reason, the file couldn't be found on the itch.io.

Desktop Disaster by Kivuli 2018-08-19T11:25:35Z

At first, I thought that the game is too easy, but after some time it began to require a lot of attention to all properties of the files. I liked the idea of gradually introducing new game mechanics and challenges. It enables new players to easily understand what to do and later it becomes more demanding

I also really enjoyed that the game is a bit different each time, since your character's interests and occupation are randomly generated. I loved the fact that you can mute the game through the taskbar and that the wallpaper is adjusted to your preferences

Unfortunately, I had some issues with UI scaling. I'm using a 21:9 aspect ratio monitor. DesktopDisaster - UI scaling issue.jpg

LD45 — Start with nothing

Neon Blood by Nek 2019-10-14T18:00:21Z

The game was difficult, but also fun to play. Somehow I managed to finish it

But I have to say, it was very confusing because of the walls appearing from nowhere. Also, the UI didn't scale well on a 21:9 monitor (just pointing it out for future improvement).

Finished the game

Winter by fashionbatman 2019-10-26T22:24:09Z

Way different than most of the other submissions, very quiet and calm game

I really like the atmosphere and audio, however, the gameplay is a bit too slow for me

Skeleton Quest by mahalis 2019-10-26T20:22:43Z

Very simple & nice game, really enjoyed playing it!

I liked the idea of dogs stealing parts of your costume when you get to close to them

Build Yourself by lilkrit 2019-10-26T22:59:36Z

I managed to find a few bugs

In the first level, you can just ride on the wall so you don't have to open the doors. Also, physics is a bit broken. First level bug

In the last level, you can jump around the wall instead of destroying it  Additionally, when you fall down from the last level you don't get automatically respawned. Last level bug

Tipota by Pixel Maniacs 2019-10-17T18:56:27Z

The game is very appealing visually, but unfortunately, it wasn't that fun for me

Controls and movement were the main issues. Also, on multiple occasions, I got stuck on the edge of the platform and after a brief moment, I fell down because of it.

On a positive note, I have to say that the concept behind enabling new features in "roboter" was a very good idea

No Stone Uncrumbled by Jonasz999 2019-10-08T23:52:22Z

@tc5550 Thanks for the feedback! Actually in the Initial Realease the time doesn't mean anything because we didn't manage to finish the shop in time

No Stone Uncrumbled by Jonasz999 2019-10-19T10:38:02Z

@occultone @barkergames Thank you guys for a very nice feedback! Soon I will push an update in which shop is properly implemented with items like dynamite, pickaxe, etc. Also, I have added settings menu and the highscore will be now saved. I think this will make the game even more engaging

Explore the Dark by m.dam 2019-10-27T12:16:49Z

Nice game, I love the unveiling of the objects by flashing the light on the end of the hat

Sometimes I found the camera to behave very weirdly, especially when there is a big object in behind the camera.

Floatblox by Rewzu 2019-10-09T11:31:59Z

I enjoyed playing the game a lot!

I was really curious what will happen after I enter the portal  Fortunately, I managed to find the crystal so now I know (no spoilers of course)

As seen on the screenshot below, the graphics are amazing in this game. I admire how many different models you were able to create in such a short time. Moreover, you also managed to add a few lightning effects

Portal built

However, there are also a few issues:

* Sometimes objects can be placed in the air (as seen on the screenshot below) * You should add information about scroll wheel to the controls section  It took me some time to figure out how to play the game because of it * From time to time, after cutting down the tree, logs immediately fall down to the void * I would also appreciate a small cursor because sometimes it's difficult to pick up an item

Furnace placement in air

The Lonely Planet by Sam Dower 2019-10-27T12:06:31Z

Nice game, I enjoyed playing it!

I admire how many 3D models you managed to squeeze into this game!

I found a small bug, which makes the game unplayable on widescreen monitors (I have 21:9 aspect ratio). Unfortunately, the UI is not scaled properly so you cannot see your inventory and recipes. UI bug

After I changed my default monitor to 16:9 aspect ratio, everything was good and I managed to finish it without any problems  Game finished

Never Ending Entropy by CodeKoto 2019-10-26T22:12:23Z

I really enjoyd the graphics, they really put you into a proper spooky mood

I admire how you introduce new abilities gradually, that way it's simple to understad and master them

Cave by Team-on 2019-10-14T17:44:24Z

Obviously, the game is not finished yet, but still, there are a lot of things to admire

I liked the 2D graphics and animations. When the character moves, the item they hold also swings naturally.

Inventory system also seems promising, but currently, it lacks a few features and has some bugs. * Sometimes I have to press multiple times to change the active slot * It would be nice to drop items when you drag them outside the inventory UI * When you hover an item and let's say a tree is under the mouse it is highlighted with yellow, which looks confusing (see screenshot below)

Inventory issue

Also, I managed to get out of the map and go to the dark nothingness

Outside the map

Cipher by TaqoShaq 2019-10-22T18:33:01Z

Very nice logic game, I had a lot of fun playing it!

I really liked how you introduced new game mechanics. It was very clear and easy to grasp new rules. I also admire the visual feedback when we make a mistake. It helps to understand what have we missed in a very convenient manner.

The only thing which I would improve is the audio - it started to be boring after a few minutes. I guess this was caused by the repetitive melody.

I completed all of the levels and to be honest, I would like to play a bit more

Cipher finished

HeadJacker by MashUpGames 2019-10-26T22:39:30Z

The game is quite difficult and unpredictable which makes it challenging. I like it

I'm not sure whether it's good or not, but I managed to get to level 7

Level 7

Island Survivor by TC5550 2019-10-14T19:21:20Z

Very nice game, good mechanics and graphics!

I managed to finish it without any confusion

2.png

Here is a list of bugs I stumbled upon:

* You can walk on trees & water * Sometimes objects can spawn on trees (see screenshot below) * You can't fight monsters near a bonfire, because then you pick it up * When the item's count goes to 0, I think it should be deleted because otherwise it's just taking up space in the inventory

Mushroom on tree leaves

Guno by Fvafhae 2019-10-17T18:19:28Z

Very nice game! I almost managed to finish it

It requires quick reaction times & thinking, especially when the plus-shaped guy appears out of nowhere and tries to ruin your whole day

Things I would improve:

* The 1.1 version of the game is impossible to complete, as in the second to last level there are not enough energy balls * In the 2nd level (not counting the tutorial) there is 1 extra energy ball, is it done intentionally? To be more precise, 4 energy balls instead of 3 * There is a typo in the text about creating AGERS: "accidently" instead of "accidentally"

Here's how far I got

Collected Energy

Snow Ball by Cryptex 2019-10-09T12:42:51Z

I enjoyed playing the game  I also really liked the idea that everything "sticks" to the snowball, it looked very funny after I ran over a house

Sometimes I was able to fall out of the play area, so maybe you can implement some colliders at the edges to prevent that.

Here is my final snow ball size
