I was about to beat it... But... I hit a person through a wall and he ran of the screen. Then the game crashed. ._.

I was about to beat it... But... I hit a person through a wall and he ran of the screen. Then the game crashed. ._.
Got to 1,000,000 then got bored. .-. Other than that, good. :P
It is a bit buggy. The squares keep "connecting" without bordering anything, and sometimes they won't work when they should. .-.
I could imagine this being an amazing online game. :P
(psst make it happen. :D)
Really interesting and hard. :P
I did find that I could sometimes use X without touching a wall. :/
Nice idea!
While it was a good idea, it was poorly very executed.
Cool idea! :P
My score was 960.
I feel like it was lacking content though. There isn't anything new as you go on.
Cool everything. ^_^ I won on my first try after randomly shooting the shapeshifter.
It was pretty fun, but the spikes shouldn't be able to hurt you more than once before you get out.
I really like the idea. :D
The audio was good, but it seemed a little disconnected from the actual game. I kept hearing things that I didn't see or see any effects of later. I also got randomly teleported once. ._. Other than that, it was good.
The space key kept messing up for some reason.
Nothing wrong with it. :D
Too simple and too easy. .-.
One word: wow
Really cool idea! :D
It doesn't feel very immersive though.
A bit laggy and the physics are very glitchy, but otherwise, it is very innovative. :D
Extremely innovative. XD
Although I did have problems with controlling the window because it would go off my screen. Also, the game was a bit hard.
I found a bug where sometimes you can place shapes even if they don't fit. ._.
You do not own the song for the opening. (you may have made it, but you do not own it)
I got stuck on something that seemed to be a two frame slideshow that interacted with space. .-.
agario... :3
CMLSC wrote comment that game was fun.
Constructive criticism: Please test your game for bugs more next time. :P
My score was 10250. :D
I really liked the game, but I'd prefer that you made it so that you are constantly shooting or there is some sort of ammo or punishment for shooting. :P
Interesting idea. :P
The audio seems to be a really high quality. :P
102 points. It's really hard. XD
I feel like the particles coming from the square do not belong there. I recommend replacing them with larger particles in any post versions.
Very interesting idea. :P
Interesting idea, but very buggy. It would also be nice to be able to change the camera angle.
I found this... Satisfying...
The physics were a bit glitchy. :/
You disabled innovation, which is what it was best at. :/
I chubby.
I fat.
Game hard.
Game fun. :3
(I actually found a glitch where when the blocks get big, and you get inside it, you fly up! :D)
...After clicking web and getting a download, I immediately thought: VIRUS! :/ I also noticed you can only rate it on 2 things.
White screen. D:
It feels like it is missing content.
Amazing graphics and sound! :D
My Constructive Criticism: It lacks features.
I've seen this idea a lot already. :/
Typo in the description. You wrote littlw instead of little.
It's an interesting idea, but it would be nice to have a reset option because I accidentally left something I needed to block the light past where the light was, so I got stuck.
It was fun! :D
It was satisfying to kill something, but some of the enemies lacked attack animations.
Good idea, but a bit hard.
The thing I liked most was... The tutorial. XD Other games don't explain how the shapeshifting works. :P
Very innovative, but I feel like it could have used more sound effects.
I found the shapeshifting itself cool, but other than that, there didn't seem to be much to the game.
Very unique! :D
I did notice a few cards had text misplaced.
Agar.io, lol. XD
I noticed that you left the physics on too...
The quality of the shapes was also very low.
It looks nice, but it seems to be similar too most of the games in this LD.
I did find a bug where you can spam z and it will lag the game.
I've always wanted too not be able to kill flies eating my stuff. :P jk Nice game!
I've always wanted to not be able to kill flies eating my stuff. :P jk Nice game!
It took me a bit to figure out the jumping. ._.
WHY CAN'T I RATE IT FOR GRAPHICS!? ;-;
Nothing wrong with it except it lacks content.
I like the graphics, but I have a few other problems with the game:
There wasn't any attacking animations for the enemies.
The 2nd form seemed to be missing a sprite.
It was too easy to die.
My catapults kept missing, which made the game really hard. XD
The sprites could use some animation.
I don't have much else to say about the game... :/
Wow, this is actually one of the best and most polished games I've seen so far. :D
I can't think of anything wrong with it.
Funny idea, but it doesn't have very much content. You could turn it into the player texting someone and the AI responds with being very confused about the random words you are sending. XD
Nice game. I've always wanted to throw cats at aliens. :3
It got a bit boring after a little while though. ._.
All I can say is: lol
I gave up eventually, partially because the sounds were getting really repetitive. XD
It's an interesting idea, but I got stuck pretty fast. XD
I like the art. :D
I found the game funny. XD
It reminds me of Weebits(I played it like a decade ago :P) in some ways.
That caveman is very flexible. :P
My "car" or whatever broke on the first level, idk why. XD
I agree with LindenHoltWhittaker, the game could use more of a tutorial.
Luckily I had a touchscreen on my PC. XD
The game is fun, but it isn't very polished.
I beat it in 231 seconds.
(almost 4 minutes)
I used to make games like this when I was 12. :P
Anyway, it's a decent game, but the dog could use some animation. Maybe add some music. Also, the levels felt a bit empty because I had to go across open air. Maybe add grass or something 20ish blocks down to make it feel like the player is on floating islands. :3
I tried everything I could think of, but the play button didn't work for me for some reason.
I liked the graphics, but dash being control was a pain to use. :P Also, I got stuck to the wall after using dash once.
I waited a good 3 minutes and the game didn't load. D:
I could imagine that some people would enjoy doing this(especially if there were relaxing music or something), however, I don't really care for games like this. The game appears to work fine though. :D
I couldn't exactly figure out how to end a level...
I love flinging stick figures! :D
Anyway, I like the art and even though the game is simple, it is still fun. :3
I beat the game... I think... XD
I was completely confused but I still found the level design cool. :P
I'm confused as to what exactly this is...
I found many glitches including going inside the wall and platforms, and also even hitting the end with nothing happening. The platforms were also glitching. The controls were also a pain. It took me 5ish minutes to beat it. .-.
I actually enjoyed this. The controls were a bit weird though. I also lost one of my blocks. XD
Anyway, nice game. For some reason, the music isn't working for me. D:
Wow, it has good graphics, music, and it's an interesting idea. I just wish it were done on a larger scale or something. It took me a while to figure out what was going on, so a tutorial would be nice.
That was a fun little puzzle game. :P
I didn't exactly ever get stuck, but I'm very confused as to what the body was in my inventory after I opened the ship's door... XD
I found the changing gameplay fun. The part where the balls go up is funny, but eventually I got bored of the game. ._.
Overall though, the game was fairly good.
While the idea is cool, you did just use someone else's game idea.
Also, there just isn't much to do.
I'm actually looking at possibly getting MMORPG Tycoon 2 though, because it looks really cool. XD
The visuals are really good for a text game, but I couldn't figure out what exactly the goal was...
The version on this page gives me a 404.
The web link works though.
The puzzle's idea just doesn't really appeal to me.
Also, try making your own music instead of using abundant-music. I could tell right when I started the game, something was weird with the music. .-.
One more thing, the controls weren't very easy to use.
The aiming had too much momentum, I couldn't seem to aim where I wanted to. ._.
I was exploring and I ran off the edge of the map though. :3
The lighting was nice, but the art could use some work.
The screen shaking was a bit excessive and it was hard to tell what was happening. In general, I found it confusing.
The game doesn't properly fit the screen. It would be nice to have a fullscreen button. :P
I like the game, but the graphics could use some work.
Wow, I've never seen a point and click adventure done like that. The compo version could've used some sound though...
I tried to throw the trashcan twice. I don't know why. :P
That art though. XD
I actually heard about the "ancient technology" you used in this game! :D
I really like the concept. The game could use some polishing though.
I got 276 points! :D
I can't exactly think of anything wrong with the game. It would make a great mobile game. It's just not super interesting compared to other games.
Nice pixel art. I tried to go back to the guard(or whatever he is) once I broke the pot. XD
I like how you bounce back after you hit things. I thought of doing that in one of my games once. :P
I kinda wanna see what would happen after I left though...
I killed exactly 200. :P
I really liked this game, but the one thing that bothered me is that the bugs on the bottom didn't do anything.
Whelp, that was strange. I tried to play it and it was running at(I'm guessing) around 0.1 to 0.2 frames per second. I know that I have a bad pc, but it isn't that slow.
My eyes hurt. XD
The idea is actually really cool, but the gameplay seems a bit lacking. I noticed that some names were used multiple times in the list of people. :P I also found a bug. If you open up the list of people and click the ? thing, the window opens up behind the list of people.
The game was okay.
I think that the graphics could use some improvement.
I would've liked it if the player rotated properly. XD
The game would be a lot more interesting if there were different towers and different enemies.
Oh, sorry, I forgot. You press R to restart. :P
(When things like this happen to me when playing games, I press every button on the keyboard. :3)
The green thing is your stanima. 1 hit kills you.
*Stamina
It's a cool game, but it would be nicer for it to be a little more simple. Card games are usually simple games that you can do a lot with.
This is probably my favorite puzzle game in this LD. :P
While I don't usually care for puzzle games(games like Portal are an exception), I actually enjoyed this one. I noticed a few glitches though. Also, the graphics were pretty good.
My eyes hurt. XD
The graphics are nice, but I don't get the point of the game... :/
This is one of the better looking and sounding games. :D
I don't have much else to say about it... xD
You know platformers have platforms, right? :3
I actually started to slowly lag more and more. Idk why.
Other than that, it's a cool game.
Almost got to 1 min...
Also, I'm not sure if this is a glitch, but when the door was broken, I sent my ball through it because it was the correct one and I lost.
Other than that, I would say that this is a very unique game. :D
I have to agree with zeoxo. :P
I haven't seen anything like this in a while. xD
The only problem I noticed, is that it is really laggy(I have a decent PC). It could have used some optimizing.
Nice game. :D
I lost on level 8. I noticed that it said that left click shoot even though it should be "attack" or "slash."
Nice game.
It would be great if the camera rotated, because I had no clue where I was going. I would have to make a lot of blind jumps.
I hit everything on the maze level and got stuck. ._.
I think that I saw a dark gray on the maze level btw. :D
I'm having a hard time telling if you actually made all of the art. Because it doesn't seem to match. I found it kind of impressive how much you were able to put in the game though.
I like it. :3
It was a nice idea. I wish I could have moved diagonally though.
I got 16.
I finally had time to come back and finish this game. :P
Once he said I was the most important and the least important person at the same time, I figured out the story. :3
In the part with balls and ducks, I started bouncing them on my head. :D Another thing I noticed is that if I land on the balls in a certain spot, I can rid them and slide around. XD
I got stuck on level 7. X3
Here is an idea, maybe you could change the player's patterns for different levels. :D
Definitely one of the better games in the Ludum Dare so far. It's actually really hard. :P
I won! :D
Also, I noticed an issue with your movement.
http://imgur.com/a/naR1r
I cheated the last bit. Instead of actually making the jump to the platforms with the button and computer, I missed and went below. I was still close enough to press C though, so I won. :3
I like the way you move around, but it felt a bit clunky and slow. If the pace of the game were faster, it would be way better. Otherwise, it's a great game. :P
Just lol.
I'm that one dude who always has something go wrong every LD... (didn't see anyone like me :P)
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if this game accurately represented what people were thinking about in the theme voting. :/
(Isolation was my favorite)
Anyway, I thought the game was really funny! Good Job!
It was a cool idea, but it was very buggy. Although it probably would've been better if I could do it in VR. xD
I'm not sure if this is a glitch, but I could spam attacks if I switch between left and right really fast. Also, idk what I did, but at one point, I saw a lightning bolt shaped thing on the screen and the game froze. :/
Other than that, it seems like a decent game. :P
Wave 7. :D
Definitely one of the better games from this LD.
I found it very satisfying.
I like it. The boss battle was nice.
Here are a few things you might want to work on:
It's very glitchy.
It's laggy.
Annnnd, it would be nice if you practiced your art a bit. :D
The game seemed to be lacking something. There just wasn't very much to it.
I actually think this is pretty good. :D
The biggest problem I have with it is just how much it lagged. :/
Wow, if this game doesn't win innovation, I'd be surprised. :D
I got the spider...
Also, the sword seems to be broken. So I tried to starve it. That didn't work. .-.
I like the animations and art.
It would be great if you pulled "What Have I Done?" out of the title. Then people wouldn't see what was coming. XD
This game would've been great if the controls worked a bit better. ;-;
Wow, this is one of the best games from this Ludum Dare! :D
(in my opinion)
The opening actually was really cool.
The hitbox for the monster seemed to be a bit too large, because I was running around it(with a decent amount of space), and once I went around the corner of it, I died.
Other than that, the only other thing I would like to point out is that it would be great if the game had more sounds, like maybe some footstep sounds and some ambience.
Great game though! ^_^
I felt like I moved to slow... Also, I when I bought the machine gun, it didn't seem to do anything. Another thing I noticed is that the bullets don't go where I aim. I like the loss effects though. :D
If you needed more time, you should've just switched to the Jam. :P
I thought it was fun, but it would've been nice if the game had a crosshair.
You forgot to put an e after the v in Adventure for the game's files. XD Also, you called the file ld47_game. It should be 37. I won't give you a bad rating for this stuff jsyk. :3
So... I think I won... I got infinite hearts. XD
I noticed that I could walk backwards.
Also, you're good at pixel art. :D
Still not much of a game. :3
Did it with 31 points.
For the first round, I picked 10, because I thought that nobody would pick it because they would think that everyone would pick it.
Obviously I picked 5 for the second question.
For the third question, I picked 7 because it was the 3rd highest pick in question 1. (because I expected the answers on this to be almost the opposite of question 1)
I guessed that 7,000 people passed(over half). I was having a really easy time, and most people passed the previous tests, so I assumed that 7,000 was pretty close. I ended up getting 0 points for that though.
I picked 3 in round 5 because I thought that very few people would pick it and I was at 22. (so I only needed 5 in the last round)
I picked 6 in the last round so that I could go past 30. (just for fun. :P)
Nice game! The music was great. Although it would be nice if the game increased in difficulty.
My record was 21.
Nice game. Although it seemed like the rooms I was given were randomly chosen. I only had 2 sleeping rooms. I had a bunch of people who wanted to go in there... So that was a pain. XD I lasted 5 days.
I like games like this. I started to glitch and teleport around after I got the first key. ._.
I have to agree with everyone else. I have no idea what I'm doing. XP
It would be nice if you added more detailed instructions.
I was down to like 3-5 FPS the whole time. :/
I also noticed a lot of physics glitches. XD
You click the screen(specifically the floor). The instructions say that it auto buys and uses it. You can click anywhere for the walls. But for canons and mushrooms, it has to be on the floor or shelf, and for the shelf, it just has to be open space.
It said in the help file that you had to use the scroll wheel.
Read the help file. ._.
The inability to move the window is because of the way Pygame works. :3
Sorry about that.
Either you used an operating system that doesn't work with it or you didn't read the instructions. :/
Lol, I kinda assumed that it would be obvious that the top of the window was the roof.
Also, like it says in the instructions, if you get enough canons, you can raise the roof without walls. :3
I like games like this. :3
I noticed that an OP tactic is to just put a ton of rangers behind a bunch of peasants. I got bored after a while and just quit. .-.
Didn't load. D:
Yay, I won. XD
Don't really know what to say about this, except that I feel like I've played it before.
This is a very good idea! I could see this being a very gould mobile game if it had better art and more content. :D
My record is 0:12.718. :P
@richard-michael-smith @huvaakoodia I'll add gifs for the completion of each level at some point. xD I've showed other people the game and they didn't have a hard time though.
@maldo19 there is actually a reason for the speed of the spikes, because if they were slower, it would make it easy to pretty much ignore pits of spikes and stuff like that. The spikes were actually faster for most of the development, but I slowed them down as much as I could while still making sure spike pits were something I could use in level design. :P
Although, I could've made it so that there were also spikes that didn't ever go down. xD
@craighasdysentery you ran out of food. Look at the bar on the top right. It is also mentioned in the description of the game.
@nickavv the music was made with beepbox.co, so that was kinda bound to happen. xD Most people seem to like it though(possibly for nostalgia related reasons).
@aeveis Yeah, I just used a random screen doubling function I found that made the pixel art smooth. xD
@takusan whoops, I meant Q. Idk why I wrote P. Fixed it though! :P
@studiocraftapps-developpement Your pixel art in your game was actually pretty good, but the problem was that you had a bunch of tiles and other things at different sizes. You have to keep the pixels sizes consistent when using pixel art. It also helps to stick to a palette and not use gradients(or any other filters).
I used my own version of this palette: http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb320/jwkv/MYPALETTE2.png
@samusoidal Do whatever you want with it. As long as you aren't selling it, I don't care. :P
It turned out great for it being made in 5 hours. The physics seemed a bit glitchy, but the game itself was very innovative. My time was 120.6 seconds. The controls felt nice too. It would've been nice if there were some particle effects or audio(music probably been more suiting to this game). Anyway, good job! :D
This is a great game! The idea was pretty good. The pixel art is great, I'm not a big fan of the palette, but that's just my personal preference. :P
I got two of the three endings.
The music was good, but it got repetitive after a bit.
The walking seemed a bit slow, but it wasn't that much of a problem.
Anyway, good entry!
This is probably my favorite LD 38 game so far!
It's hilarious.
"In my defense, the civilians are braindead." ~Big Foot
The game is actually pretty hard. It would help if the trees were a bit shorter so that you could step over them.
It's still a great game though! I'd love to see some YouTubers play it.
I won with 169 people. :P
The art and music were both great! It wasn't that hard to figure out and it was a lot of fun to play.
I feel like there should be some other threat that comes along later, because once you get enough towers, the pirates aren't a problem. Also, when the screen fades to black at the end, you can still see resources coming in.
I liked how the mines left holes in the ground after a while and the lumber mills(or whatever they're called) disappeared after a while.
Overall, it was a great game!
The story was very interesting! The music was simple, but it didn't get annoying. The pixel art was pretty good. The way you had to talk to people felt a bit weird. It made me start thinking of The Edge Chronicles at first. xD
I think I might have done a few things out of order, for example, I didn't talk to the people at the bridge and I also didn't eat breakfast until after I spoke to the wise man. In the case of the bridge, it was kind of weird how he recognized me even though I had never met him. :P
Anyway, this is a great entry!
The art was nice as well as the music, the game itself was good, even though it didn't have that much content. However, I feel like something was missing for some reason. I'm not too sure why. Another thing I noticed was that the sound effects could stack if multiple things died at the same time. It causes to sound to be louder for some reason. I sometimes run into the same problem. :P
This is definitely one of the best games I've seen. The art and music are both great! There is a lot of content too. I'm currently on level 21. ^_^
The visual effects also look great. You got a lot done in 48 hours. :P
One bug I noticed is that the ship seems to go under everything when leaving.
The music was great and the art was also great! :D
I made it to the end in 6 lives the first time and the second time I did the "you are too heavy for the clouds" thing.
I noticed that the plants seemed a bit glitchy when I was eating them. I would see 2 sprouts, one in the ground, and one floating above the other one.
The thing where you get to continue after you've died was a bit confusing at first, you might want to mention that somewhere.
Anyway, this was a great entry! I had a lot of fun playing it.
It looks nice. Also, YUMMY BUGS!!! xD
My high score was around 40,000. The art looked nice but the music didn't seem to fit with the rest of the game very well. Otherwise it was pretty good.
Sorry if I'm being too harsh, but while it was a great idea, it was _very_ poorly executed. The audio in general is kind of annoying, the physics were broken, and there were a bunch of other glitches.
The pixel art looked good, except that it was put together poorly. Try to keep everything the same size. Next time, try to make sure you're idea for a game is something you can complete properly within the given time. Try to add a little extra time for polish too!
It was a good effort though!
It was a great idea, but it could've used a bit more polish. The music was nice. Although, it wasn't very clear that I could attack from 2 spaces away.
The idea is great, and the game itself is fun, but there were a few glitches and the movement felt a bit clunky.
It would be nice if there were some sort of "speed up time" button, so that you don't have to spend so much time waiting around.
It would also have been nice if there were some music. :P
The pixel art was fairly good and the music was good, but there were some easy tricks to beating the game that I'm not sure were intentionally existent. The hitboxes were a bit weird and I felt a slow. The game was also a lot shorter than I expected.
Other than that, it's a good entry!
I like the game, the art is nice and the game has good aesthetics. I did notice a few visual glitches along with the previously mentioned tree glitch. There is also one loud note in the music for the forest(I have no idea if it was intentional or not). The music in the house at the end of an iteration is also way louder than the normal music. Another suggestion I have is to add some sort of icon or something when you're near something that you can interact with. Even though the art is good, the 2 colors can make it take a moment to see your character when going between areas and starting on a road, because it almost blends in. Still a great game though!
I got the second highest score with 5:05. :P The music and art were nice, but the game was pretty much the same as a bunch of other games.
2nd.png
The planet seems to spin then it turns blue and I can't do anything. ;-;
@wildmusketeer I tried both web versions.
I can finally play it(the web version is still pretty laggy, so I downloaded it). xD
I managed to beat the game!
Here comes my criticism:
The game seemed a bit glitchy, I found a few physics and visual glitches. I like the idea, and it looks cool, but the game doesn't seem to really match the description you gave it. The game itself was kind of confusing, I'm not sure if that was actually your intention though. There doesn't seem to be a way to close the downloadable version. I just alt-tabbed out and closed it. There were a few areas where I had no clue what was happening, but the doors just opened up. The white text also seemed a bit poorly placed. It was hard to read at some points. If I didn't abuse the physics glitches, I would have had to restart a lot due to misplaced boxes. .-.
Otherwise, it's a good entry!
It's one of the better games I've seen! ^_^ It is very well polished, it's unique, and has great music. The only problem I have with it is that the sound effects aren't quite what I'd call fitting. :P
It's definitely more than I expected. xD
The music was pretty good too. I don't have much else to say about it.
The music was surprisingly good! :D
The art could use a little work, and even though the music was good, it wasn't the most fitting. It would also be nice if going faster would save power(since it's a bit harder to control). The game could use some instructions because it took me a bit to figure out that right makes you go faster. I haven't played many games like this that are turned sideways, but my first instinct was to use right and left to go up and down(because I was trying to do it relative to the car position). Not much of a problem though.
The idea itself has been used in a basic form in most of the ludum Dare games I've played(from flying through space and dodging other spaceships to straight up driving on a highway). So it wasn't that innovative. The game could've used some more content like powerups or something. It didn't feel like there was much I could do to improve my chances at getting farther. It wasn't hard to avoid cars and I got pretty much any power that wasn't blocked by cars(which might just be me that finds it easy). So adding more depth to the game could make it so that more skill is required the further you get instead of more luck.
The alarm sound seemed to activate a bit early(while the bar was still green), which was weird. Even if that was intentional I found it weird that the alarm would play at such a high amount of power.
The car hitboxes were kind of weird, because I would turn while I was almost a third of the way inside them. The sudden(there may be a pattern I just didn't notice) swerves of the cars were a bit unnatural and punishing as there were a bunch of situations where you were forced to be next to a car(or you'd run out of power) and there was nothing I could do but take the risk and hope for the best. Good RNG is where you can use skill to tilt things in your favor. (eg: in my game, when 6 people would drop on you, if you knew the game well enough, you could fight them off very consistently)

I generally recommend Extra Credits. They have tons of good videos on game design.
Even though your music was good, it's better(in my opinion) to have average music that fits. So if you have time, scrap music and attempt to make something that matches the rest of the game better. The first thing that came to mind when I heard your music was a peaceful snowy place, not a highway(might've worked better if you changed the scenery to snow).
I understand that art isn't something that everyone is able to do well with, but there are things you can do to make bad art better. This game(https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/the-wiz) had some pretty bad art, but it was still very pleasant because of how everything was put together. That game got the atmosphere almost perfect even with the bad pixel art. So programmer art can work if you know what you're doing. Try messing around with some particles and different animated scenery.
Anyways, I've reached over 3,000 characters in this comment, so I'm going to end it here. It was still a decent game for the compo, although it could use some work.
This seems to be a very common genre this Ludum Dare! xD
Just so you know, you misspelled congratulations when you lose, so you might want to fix that.
The game was nice, it controlled well and the powerups were pretty cool. The one major complaint I have is how overpowered the wormholes were. It felt like the main objective was to get to the wormholes specifically because of how far it took you. I short 50 to 100km jump would've been enough.
Good job though!
@estebe I wasn't aware of the ads because I use Adblock. .-.
@cerno-b I was going to add it if people liked the game. xD
@wheffle Yeah, since I use pygame, I have to choose between low resolutions or small window sizes due to speed limitations. So I chose somewhat in between.
@timbeaudet I used to have a hard time with arrow keys, x, and c controls, but apparently it's more common for LD games, so I switched to it from a, d, and space. And using up with that control scheme is generally considered a tacky choice(from what I've been told/seen).
I broke the game. I had fun breaking it though! Live chatted the whole playing session to g12345 in the IRC. :3
I've definitely done things like #RobBob before to make sure people read certain things(usually instructions).
Anyway, I like the idea of the game and the art looks nice. It could use a new palette though. The game got pretty repetitive considering there were only 3 rooms. I liked the twist at the ending and you used the theme in a pretty creative way! :D
Also, if you made the physics for this game, you might want to consider working on it a bit. The physics got pretty glitchy sometimes.
Anyway, good job!
Wow, you got a **TON** done during 48 hours! Art wasn't the best and it would've been nice if it had some audio, but the gameplay was pretty good! I wasn't a big fan of it being left to rotate and right to delete. For some reason it was natural for me to use left to try to delete and place while using right to rotate(probably because place and delete are in the same category of actions). Although that was just my opinion. :P
The game itself seemed pretty polished and had a ton of content! Great job!
The game is very unique! The pixel art and audio is also really good. I'm not sure if this is a glitch, but the sound doesn't seem to fade properly when walking away from those boxes. The gameplay doesn't really match the theme even though you added a backstory that does. It seems like you had an idea you thought was cool and tried to add the theme to the idea instead of basing the idea on the theme.
I found the game itself somewhat confusing, but when I started going by sound instead of doing it visually it got easier(I figured it out a bit late though). Overall, it was still enjoyable and well polished even with what I consider to be design flaws.
One more thing I'd like to point out is that I couldn't ever figure out what the different shades of gray in the background were for, although that could just be my problem. :P
Also, I forgot to mention that the core of the game didn't synergize well with it being a platformer.
@impbox I'd suggest turning down the contrast on the two shades of gray in the background, because it kind of comes off as a failed lighting attempt until you really look at it. If the shades were a bit closer, it would easily pass as wall patterns.
The player was missing, so I couldn't see what I was doing and couldn't play. :/
Nice game! I recommend trying to keep everything on the same scale. If you're using a specific resolution for the ships, make every pixel the size of those pixels and multiply the size of the display to whatever size you'd like. Using different resolutions can be a bit tacky sometimes. Your graphics still look good though! The game could've used a bit more content as it was already using a fairly common genre. Good work though!
It looked nice! Definitely some of the better non-pixelart graphics I've seen. It was a bit too easy. I went for 5 to 10(I'm not sure) minutes with no sign of losing, so I eventually just stopped. The game seemed well put together, although the design of the game was a bit simple for 72 hours. Also, I noticed I could go off the screen which was weird. Anyway, good job!
I think this is the best Ludum Dare game I've played so far!
I loved your use of the theme! The pixel art and audio were both great. Unfortunately I got stuck on the part with the 1 tile height gaps between the saws and the spikes. I couldn't seem to get through. I have two suggestions: 1. Make the saws actually invisible if your brightness isn't on because I never needed it. 2. Make the batteries charge a bit quicker. The instructions say the green dot charges them, but it doesn't do it every time. I'd suggest letting the batteries hold more charges(that get used faster in the game), but the green dot charges them every time it goes from not hitting to hitting the battery. That'd make it so that players would be shaking the battery over the green dot, which makes that part more engaging.
Great job though!
It was an interesting game. The mechanics felt somewhat complete(unlike a lot of LD games). It bothered me how the particles turned with whatever they were coming from. Also, the car hitbox changes in a weird way when it turns(it turned right while I was on the left side of the turn and it hit me when it turned). The buildings/ground could've used some artwork. If you're going for just voxels, then try to at least put more texture in it. Good work though!
The game itself was pretty good considering you had to miss a bunch of the Ludum Dare(I had to miss portions of it too, so I know how it feels). The electricity looked nice, but always try to make the core of the game and *then* polish. Two complaints: first, my controls kept locking while dragging me around and second, it was kind of annoying when the game was trying to aim for me. Other than that, it was a fairly good game with controls that felt nice(when they didn't lock up). Good work!
The graphics were clean and you got the palette right even though you didn't get the form the best. Interactions were kind of glitchy. I like the overall idea of the game. :P
I feel like the theme was kind of forced into the game though. Usually it's a good idea to think: Would the game be good if I pulled out the concept related to the theme? If your answer is yes, then in most cases you didn't tie the theme in very well to the core of the game(it depends on the theme though).
Anyways, good job!
It's not the most original idea I've seen. It felt nice to play. The volume of the SFX was fine, but it could use a bit more sound(like ambiance or bee buzzing). I liked how you could hear how close you were to the right time at clicking by the sound. It still could use some polish. Nice entry!
It's an interesting idea. I couldn't load it on a computer so I played it on my iPod, which was weird. xD
It would've been interesting if I had to write the responses and the game looked for key words in them, because after the beginning I just spam tapped reply on everything and couldn't read the text. Still a good game for 4 hours! :D
The game felt a bit clunky and the art style wasn't very consistent. I really like the idea you were going for, but next time maybe try something that you're confident you'll be able to pull off a bit better. The map was a bit too big and it took to long to get from place to place. It also seemed like the explosions didn't do much. I found the fourth ability useful for transportation. It never really felt like I needed to worry about running out of power, I just needed to stop at the charging area whenever I passed by it. It was a good try though!
P.S. Normally if people want controls like yours they use arrow keys and z, x, c, v.
Nice game! The controls felt a bit slidy and it was weird how the AI didn't track me across the edges of the map and just pointed to where I was visually. Because of the slidy controls it was a bit hard to play and control myself. The sound was nice as well as the art.
Good job!
P.S. Just so you know, developers tend to find controls/the difficulty of their game easier than the average player. This tends to be because of all the time spent testing during the development and how things get added slowly which makes it easier for your brain to get the hang of. I had to make my game way easier than I'd like because I knew that other people would find it too hard if I kept it at the difficulty I liked.
This was a very solid game! The graphics weren't the best, but it felt bug-free, it was nice to control, had great audio, and was a pretty fun game to play! :D
My only advice is to maybe add some animations to make it more graphically polished.
Good job(especially for your second Ludum Dare)!
The audio was great and the environment was also put together **very** well. It would've been nice if you did your pixel art at a higher resolution though. The game itself was rather glitchy. The game seemed to be just a platformer with a few things added. Nothing new really. If the game itself had a bit more to it and you increased the resolution on your pixel art, I could see this doing pretty well.
The game was interesting at first, but like most clicker games, it got boring pretty fast. Also, I'm not sure if this is a glitch, but every time you upgrade, you lose all of you money instead of a set amount. The game probably would've stayed interesting longer if you had some sort of graphical differences between the converters. The game didn't really seem to be affected by the theme. The way you implemented it doesn't really affect it because you start with so much power. Otherwise though, it was a decent game considering it was your first Ludum Dare!
Just a tip for the Ludum Dare, most people won't spend 15+ minutes on a game(I think the average is closer to 5 minutes unless you really get their attention), so try to shorten it a bit next time. I learned this the hard way by people not even caring enough about my game to read the instructions and only playing it for about 3 minutes then deciding to rate it. That happened back in LD 35 though. :P
Usually you do have to abuse the system a bit if you want good rating by packing as much polish as you can into a short amount(5 to 15 minutes) of time(gameplay wise).
The game itself felt great! Although just because you tell people to not be harsh on your programmer art, doesn't mean people should rate it higher. Art is almost as important of a part of a game jam as the programming. It's something you get good at with time and practice though, so keep working at it. For some reason the game crashed while I was doing the large room. I refreshed the page and it crashed again. ;-;
One suggestion I do have for your art is to take off the blurred edges on the character. It looks really weird when you're zoomed in so far.
Anyway, nice work for 48 hours!
While it's cool that you made a game with just HTML and CSS that doesn't mean I'll give you a higher rating for it. I see a lot of rating bias based on the tools used, which kind of bothers me. All games should be treated like what they are, not based on their origins. There have been a few cases where I have wished there was an "Effort" category for ratings, and this is one of them. :P
The game itself is simple, but it still looks nice compared to some other Ludum Dare games I've seen. I also found the text humorous.
Good work!
It was pretty hard to see everything coming and properly react. I also didn't like the powerups that locked me in place because they forced me to hit some bad obstacles and miss power. The particle effects looked nice. I'm not sure if it's a bug, but I didn't get any audio. If it doesn't have any audio mark it out of the audio ratings please. :P
Reminded me of https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/tank-empty
Anyway, good job!
The game was pretty good! Not sure why the road had that weird brownish color in some places though. It would've been nice if the other cars stayed in their lanes and avoided the barriers in the road. Also, the SFX was rather loud. The art was decent, and the controls felt good. Also, it'd be nice if you added more car variants.
Good job!
Hmm, sound seems to have cut out.
Took me about 9 hours to figure out that the fuel was for the theme. The music was great. Although the game freezes for about half a second for me every now and then. I wouldn't worry about it too much because my laptop is really bad compared to what most people are using. It's a fun game, good job! ^-^
@jason-kennedy The game is written in Python 3.4, not 2.7.
(I'm assuming you're on Linux) Try using Wine with the compiled version.
@jason-kennedy If I remember correctly, I can still add more control schemes.
@acoto87 Crystal explains the mechanics if you're paying attention. The jump isn't a jump, you float. And the dash only works if you are already moving.
@sovogirl Crystal is not like Navi.
[(SPOILERS) This is technically Crystal](https://pastebin.com/t2p8PP4L)
@fakeyou Python 3.4 with pygame for that version(which can be hard to find).
I'm not too sure how to port to mac and I don't own one or have one available to me so I can't test it.
@samusoidal Thanks! ^-^
Although I'm not too sure it's possible to port Pygame(the graphics library I use) to mobile.
@kdrnic I thought about adding a button to drop quicker, but I decided not to because I didn't want to make it more complicated. The design reason for the tapping while floating thing is because I wanted to make it a choice to go for speed or distance. Pressing X sets your gravity to 0 then increases your upward momentum, but the initial press takes a lot of energy. The extra height you get from tapping comes from the resetting of gravity, so ideally you'd press it when the gravity hits its peak.
The game looks great, but I was kind of expecting some music/SFX... Also, stuff kept spawning in combinations that were impossible to get past. Visually this game is amazing, but I just wish that I wouldn't have to get lucky to get far in the game.
The game is pretty good for 3 hours. The art and music are both great, but it got laggy for me later on. Jumping didn't feel that good. Maybe add a tiny bit more height to the jump to make the game a bit easier. You still did a good job for 3 hours.
This should be a jam entry. [You aren't allowed to use the Minecraft brick texture in a compo entry.](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules)
Although, I did enjoy the game. The visual aesthetic was nice and the music was pretty good(although a bit quiet). I think I beat the game. I got all 50 gems and walked through the doorway at the end, but then the game restarted. I'm assuming that was intentional.
Good work though.
So, I waited for the game to load for about 5 minutes then refreshed and waited again. Still nothing...
I've waited about 10 minutes and the game still hasn't loaded. .-. Could you make a downloadable version?
This was a surprisingly innovative game! ^-^ I really lake how you can change where the presents are stacked from. I found it to be useful to make a U shape out of the presents so I can catch some in the middle. I'd like it a lot if the height of the game were a bit higher so you could do even more with the shape you make with presents. The graphics could use some work, but it isn't exactly necessary.
Good work though!
I love the idea, but you might want to make the difficulty scaling a bit slower. Getting used to the mechanics takes a bit. The slipperiness of movement was kind of annoying at first. The pixel art was pretty good, and the music was nice(I bit chaotic sounding though). This is definitely one of the more innovative games I've played. ^-^
It's a nice idea, but(unless I missed something) it doesn't seem like you have very many options in most cases. I like the overall aesthetic of the game though! ^-^
The game actually really reminds me of my own game. xD (A skill based platformer with a rather large amount of content for 48 hours including a boss fight.) The game looks great, but the 3 colors thing really messes up the gameplay for me. I have a hard time telling what's a wall, what's a floor, and what's just background decoration. Maybe you should've tried using 4 colors to make it a bit easier to tell what is what. Although it's still a great game for 48 hours! ^-^
Nice game, but I feel like there should be more to do. It seems a bit repetitive. Also, the sprites are very blurry. The concept is a good idea, but I wish you had taken it a bit further. Good work though.
I like how you used the theme and the game itself was nice, but I had some lag issues and the music got really choppy. I had to stop playing because it was giving me a headache. D:
@fussenkuh My laptop isn't the best, but it should still be able to run something like this. :P
Is it the audio distortion that causes it to cut in and out really fast? Or was I actually lagging? ._.
EDIT: Let me know when you fix the audio issue. I'd like to give it another shot.
The audio seems to be fixed now! ^-^ Also, is it just me or do you get less cats than before?
@nusan if you have the required cat I think it'll highlight it and you just press x.
Great job! The visuals are great and the gameplay is really fun! The SFX were also pretty satisfying. One suggestion I do have is to make the amount of items/things that hurt you less frequent in the beginning, because I was very confused at first. Another thing I noticed was that the invincibility potions seemed to be extremely common and I was almost constantly invincible.
It's still a really fun/satisfying game!
I couldn't quite figure out how to keep the fire from catching me. I tried both collecting all of the coins and collecting none of them. Is there something I'm missing?
Anyways, the audio was pretty good, and the gameplay was enjoyable.
It'd be nice if you could restart a bit quicker after you die. I'd also like it if there were some other method of movement other than just straight up jumping. Controlling your height or slowing down might be nice.
The only bug I noticed was that the flamethrowers didn't seem to do anything.
Good work though! Too bad your artist was sick.
This is probably my favorite game this Ludum Dare so far! It was very funny and the puzzles were pretty good. I saw that one of the characters was deceased, I'm not sure if I missed it, but I don't think that was explained. Also, I noticed a few physics glitches where in some cases your cats would get stuck in the fence. Still, great work(I beat it)!
This is probably the most humorous game I've played so far. :P The pixel art was pretty good, the sound was great, and I love the idea. One issue is that eventually the game would get so laggy that it's practically frozen(the screen would update every 5-10 seconds) if I play for too long. Another issue I can think of is that there isn't that much of a challenge because of how slow the shrooms are. Maybe add ammo or something. I'm not sure if this was intentional, but the shooting controls are inverted for some reason.
Good work though!
@theloneplant I accidentally fell asleep in the last couple of hours, so I kind of know how that feels. xD
@erasmus-crowley I didn't really think that the waiting would be that much of a nuisance as it ends up being 5-10 seconds since it only takes 5 seconds for a slime to eat a dirt pile. I also couldn't think of any easy solutions at the time. Maybe I could've added a slow auto bullet regen though.
@tontonpizza Part of the challenge is that you have to wait for the gun to rotate between targets. I wouldn't have been able to use a system like that without changing the way the gun aims.
@shinysteel I really like the slimes too. xD
@austino-bobino "the way it **sticks** to the theme..." heh
@allan-kong I tried to turn the unintentional intensity into lighthearted silliness through the music and the ambient noise. :P
@5spectra the idea is that you have to move around to get the right angle when shooting (so that the slime is on a direct course to landing on you). This makes it so that your shots won't miss. It's part of the challenge.
@eric-schmiel I thought that people might not notice it, but usually people complain about my games not having a double jump, so I assumed people would figure it out naturally. :P
Also, pixel art isn't really dependent on your tool (excluding pixel art animations).
@jaime-paz-lopes That doesn’t work with 10 types of cards though. Also, you can have up to 5 cards in your hand. No player should be expected to reflexively press the right hotkey out of 5 hotkeys on top of the movement ones.
@jaime-paz-lopes but if you bind each button to a card, the user will have to move their hand a long way just to reach the right card's button. Quickly pressing a button from 1 to 0 to activate invincibility, double/triple jump, platforms, or speed(which are the defensive cards) when there's a bullet or meteorite next to you is not easily done. If you're talking about playing out of your hand, it'd still be 1 to 5 and what is bound to what will constantly be changing, so you actually have to stop and think about which one to press. It can't be done reflexively.
Btw, the reasoning behind the Z for the card menu and X for select is that on the gameboy and DS the button to the right(A) is always used to select/confirm things. That's just what I'm used to.
@SecretPocketCat you can get offered a point card as a new card for your deck, but it’s pretty rare.
@Raiyumi that’s when you swap out a card in your deck. (aka deck building)
^-^
@Connell you didn't actually play it, did you...
@fil089 the idea behind the "one card at a time" idea is that it adds replayability since each time you play, you'll construct a different deck. I personally like roguelikes, which may have influenced that decision. I think that people who like roguelikes will like the "one card at a time" mechanic, while fans of card games may have your preferences.
@random-storykeeper I'm going to mark that as High Noon - Day 1(you may call it the 3rd wave) because that's where the tumbleweeds appear. :P
I don't even know what to say... >.>
Beat it, it's like some trippy dream. It's not super clear what you're supposed to do... Good thing you were on the IRC. :3
Music was good though!
The game feels really good until you die. The long death scenes in a game where you die so much is kind of a pain. Sorry if I'm a bit harsh here, but only incorporating the text based genre into the art style wasn't super innovative. On the other hand, the game has a lot of polish and is well made. Good job!
EDIT: Also, the camera shake made it a bit hard to see what I was doing at times. I would have to go on instinct when the camera shook.
This is my favorite entry so far. The idea is amazing. I don't have much to criticize other than the lack of eye candy. :P
@HKoisumi can you stop copy-pasting that comment everywhere?
I loved it. The graphics and audio are amazing. Unfortunately I had to stop after getting the hammerhead with ~250 gold(or whatever the currency was, I forgot).
Now for the constructive criticism...
The main thing I'd like to point out is the lack of abilities(or rather, ways to interact with the world, specifically in combat). Running around and pressing S got a little repetitive. You may have been going for a more simplistic game, which is usually a good idea for Ludum Dares.
A few things that bugged me while I was playing:
1. Items could fly off the map if you killed something near the wall.
2. It wasn't clear I was supposed to click when I was trying to sell stuff.
3. The melee skulls' heads would sometimes go under the rocks even when lower on the screen than them.
This is a very well polished game for what it is. Amazing work!
P.S. I used to use Graphicsgale, beepbox.co, and SFXR. ^-^
@raiyumi I’ll try and check that out when I get a chance.
The core idea is interesting, but I there wasn't very much content. What you did make was well done though. It would've been interesting to make it a bit more than an exploration type game. The sounds were very satisfying. Good work!
