Nice adventure game. Pretty long for an LD game.

Nice adventure game. Pretty long for an LD game.
Nice job in just 4.8 hours!
I didn't like the ending though.
Awesome presentation. Loved the background and the explosions. The control scheme and the sentry guns popping out shooting at me reminded me of Bastion. If you were to make a full game out of it, I for one would definitely play it! My only complaint is that you didn't really incorporate the theme into the game.
It's an alright game.
Really good, moody game. Found all endings!
Sad game. :(
Great concept, good execution. Loved the +1 Kitten logos on the plane and the nice, long, descriptive title. :-)
I managed to finish it, once you get used to the mechanics (heart rate / temperature) it is actually rather easy.
Fits the theme perfectly, but not very challenging.
Nice graphics, interesting concept. But now my fingers hurt from the constant flapping. :)
Loved this game. It's funny, it looks nice, it has a great soundtrack. Unfortunately, after a while it gets repetitive, so I would've added an another exit at the other side of the museum to cut down the long walking distance.
Fun animations, nice gameplay and the concept is totally relevant to the theme, but I would have loved to see some variation. Also, that boss is hard.
Nice graphics, good use of the theme and a kitten. Pretty good.
I really liked the graphics and animations. Some kind of in-game instructions wouldn't hurt, at first I had no idea I could throw the star... :)
Some sound effects would've added a lot to the game.
I had to hunt for 2 DLLs to run the game (libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll and libstdc++-6.dll). My antivirus didn't warn about it, and since the source code code is included, I don't think that it is malicious.
Unfortunately the game is buggy and the animations are weird. There is no sound or music. I was unable to complete the game, so I cannot comment on the ending.
Nice concept, and I kinda liked the sounds as well (nom-nom-nom).
I think the transition takes too long when you run out of food, and it was frustrating to get stuck because the companions block your path (as already mentioned).
Randomly generating levels is a neat idea, but unfortunately the game lacks in execution.
Good idea, too bad you didn't have time to really implement it.
Nice graphics, and the sound design adds a lot, too. Very random - sometimes I'd crash after a few seconds, other times I could go for a few minutes. I don't really like games without a goal other than to reach a high score, but it was fun nevertheless.
Interesting idea for a game, I liked it, even though I don't usually play racing games.
Thanks for the feedback!
I think the most important thing I've learned is that I should ask people to test my game on IRC/Twitter, or IRL. These things (reaction time, hitbox, level design, etc.) could have been fixed in a matter of minutes if only there were someone to point them out for me.
I will try to work on my graphics "skills" too. This was the first time I've ever used Inkscape, so there is certainly room for improvement.
This was my first LD, and it was great fun, so I hope I will be able to make a better game next year.
I will make sure to rate your entries in return. Thanks for taking the time to try out my game and I hope you didn't break your keyboards in frustration...
@caranha:
Well, I came up with the story in five minutes, so there ought to be some plot holes in it. I guess the army should enlist more punk kids then. :-)
@philhassey: What OS are you using? .NET and XNA requires Windows XP SP 3 or later. You cannot use XNA under OS X, or Linux, as far as I know. Or are you having some other problem?
Here are the frameworks for reference:
.NET 4.0:

It seems like a fun game, but I don't have an iOS device. I am not familiar with the development tools that you've used, is it possible to release a web based or PC version, so I could try it?
Fits the theme perfectly, but isn't really a game.
Short, sweet game.
Your character moves very slowly and you cannot change your direction while running. The sounds get quite annoying after a while. The graphics are alright and the game fits the theme.
Very moody game, nice use of simple graphics. I missed some basic sound effects, and I didn't like that it just exits when the game is over.
I had a hard time with this game until I realized that brute force might not be a good idea here. The puzzles aren't that hard if you stop and think for a while.
Nice minimalistic graphics, great concept, good execution.
Great game, congratz!
Sorry for the delay. I tried to run it on two different machines (both running Windows 7 Professional), and it was working fine. Eventually I ended up installing a clean virtual Windows XP environment and sure enough, it failed to run.
I managed to trace down the bug and uploaded a fixed version, so it should be working now.
Thanks for your interest in my game!
Nice, glad to know it's working now.
Yes, unfortunately I couldn't make it clear in the game how gene passing is supposed to work. Players shouldn't need to read about this stuff just to play a game... Oh well, lesson learned, better luck next time.
It's not bad, but it's too easy and doesn't get any harder as you progress through the game. Nice art and music, though.
I liked the game, but unfortunately just when I started to really get into it, it crashed.
I think it had potential, but it's obviously unfinished.
For me, at first it wasn't clear what I had to. I think some quick descriptions at the beginning would've helped (e.g. this is you, you have to get there, avoid cops).
The game is pretty hard, there were a lot of cops after I robbed a few times.
I liked your art style, the music and sound effects fit the style, and well produced.
I liked the game, especially the sound effects.
I understand that you didn't have the time to finish the game as you originally wanted to, but I still think it could have had some simple goals (like get X amount of resources, raise your population to Y members, etc).
It's simple but fun.
Cool idea, but I got frustrated when I got to the g6 stage which has a totally random outcome. I had to go back to the first stage over and over again to farm energy but if you get hit by the red security thingy once you can lose almost everything you gathered so far.
The idea is good, but I would've liked it better if instead of ending the game as soon as a guard saw me, I would've had an opportunity to outrun them, only failing when they actually catch me.
Fun little game.
Pretty hard game, the attacks are cool.
Interesting. I had to read the comments to figure out what was going on, it could've had a short explanation in the game.
Fun little game. I really have no complaints, maybe some music would've made it better, though.
Nice idea, congrats on finishing a turn-based strategy game. I think the player should win when every enemy unit is destroyed, instead of having to approach and destroy the orphanage. I couldn't finish the last level, it just showed that an error has occurred.
Funny game. The whole idea, the sound effects (especially the evil laugh) are hilarious. Although, it could've used some music.
Polished game with nice mechanics. Well done!
The controls felt strange to me and I don't like that the remains of other ships can still hurt you.
Cute graphics. I think the game is a bit too hard and it needs some sound effects or music.
You move way too slowly, so it doesn't feel like a car chase.
Obviously an unfinished game. What really piqued my interest is that you used Ruby, which is one of my favorite programming languages but I never really considered it suitable for game development. You might've changed my mind about that.
Well, it was... weird, I guess.
It wasn't clear how to use the hostages, sidekicks, etc. Other than that, it's a simple game of Mastermind. Bank robbery definitely fits the theme.
I liked that you can choose to be good or evil, nice presentation, too.
Good idea. The music didn't fit the game very well, and it could've used some kind of notification when the timeout for stealing stuff is over.
Fun game, nice presentation.
It looks really nice, it is unfortunate that you couldn't finish it.
Aiming is hard, because the bullets are too slow.
Very good! Funny game.
Way too easy, there are far too few enemies.
The presentation is great, too bad the game is so simple.
Great idea, nice graphics, but it could've used some more variety because it gets repetitive.
Also, it doesn't have any sound effects or music.
I think the meteor should have a bigger damage area.
Very short, but unique game with an interesting interpolation of the theme.
I found the texts hard to read, though.
Your idea and graphics are good, but I found it annoying that everything uses energy, and I have to wait for it to replenish just to be able to jump.
A solid entry, nice pixelated graphics, good sound effects, and bank robbery definitely fits the theme. I also liked the variety in it, the driving stage is a nice addition. It felt a bit too easy and short though.
Fun game, nice presentation.
Interesting, well done game.
It is really fun for a game made in 3-4 hours.
The noise when you touch the wall quickly becomes annoying.
Also, your character moves way too slow which - coupled with the constant backtracking needed in the maze - makes the game pretty tedious after a while.
I liked the drawings, though.
I wanted to create a zombie, the progress went up to 100%, but then nothing happened. Then I just randomly clicked a few times, selecting different bases, etc. and then the game crashed.
Amazing presentation, good game mechanics, nice atmosphere.
It's alright, the graphics are quite good, and FPS game submissions are rare. I would've liked some sounds, or just visual feedback when I shoot (smoke particles, kickback of the gun, etc.) and music.
It was fun.
I liked the art style, the funny cutscenes, the sound effects, it's all well put together.
It's a solid puzzle game. No complaints, really.
The idea was alright, but the presentation could've used more work.
I love Terry's work, so it's nice to see a game inspired by one of his.
I like the atmosphere you created with the nice, dark palette along with the storm sounds, I just wish there would be a real ending to it.
I agree that the player's hitbox is a bit too big. I liked the music, well done!
Some scoring system would've been nice.
The presentation is alright (graphics and sound), but I found the game too easy. I could win by simply spamming an endless stream of zombies without any kind of tactics involved. Of course, I know it's hard to make and then properly balance a game like this in a short time.
Great idea, good presentation.
Well written text adventure. I can't really write much about it without spoiling it, other than it's definitely worth checking out and playing till the end.
Well done! I genuinely felt bad at the end.
Could've used some sound effects and music, though.
It's kinda like Terry Cavanagh's game, Don't Look Back, but this one is on acid or something. :)
Props for the graphics and overall mood of the game, but I'm not even going to pretend that I fully understood what was going on.
Pretty good graphics. The game quickly gets hard after the first stage.
I think the wolf could've used some walking animations.
Too bad it's unfinished, the graphics are really nice.
Good concept.
I didn't like that the controls are all over the place, I think you could've used keys that are next to each other or simply the mouse to click on the icons.
Also, the game gives me an error when I close its window:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "The Fix.py", line 207, in <module>
NameError: name 'terminate' is not defined
Otherwise it worked fine.
The graphics are very well done, the game is too short, though.
Fits the theme well, but I could just sit and watch the virus spread without much interaction, and I won.
I liked your idea, the menu and the glass shattering effects. Too bad you have to restart the entire game if you make a mistake, it's frustrating.
I like games with mouse gestures, it is also nicely drawn. The sound effects could be better, though.
The music is good, the game feels too easy because nobody tries to stop you.
Props for Ruby, I love to see it used by game developers.
Nicely done game. Great graphics, interesting gameplay (kinda reminds me of Qix). I agree that it would be nice to be able to actually burn thing down though.
I think it's way too hard to keep your score up.
Funny game, cute graphics.
The presentation is fine, but I found the game really frustrating as I had no idea where to place the box 10 times.
Having an online leaderboard is an excellent idea - now I kinda wish I'd implemented it in my game, but it didn't even occur to me.
The game takes a surprisingly long time to load on my PC for some reason, otherwise it's a fine shooter game.
I think the controls are a bit off, and the goat shouldn't have that much health because it can take an insane amount of punishment.
Interesting. Nice graphics, good writing.
Well, I don't have an iPad.
It's interesting to see a game with an environmental message here. The greedy, exploiting man definitely fits the theme.
I actually liked your graphics, too. The game has a certain charm to it.
My problem with the game (as already mentioned by others) is that it doesn't give me enough information. I don't know how much money my boats, sawmills and mines make and how often, so it's not easy to plan ahead.
Fun little game. I actually liked the sound effects, too.
I like your art style, the idea is interesting, but the game feels pointless as there is no win condition.
It's a fun little tower defense game, but it gets repetitive. I think it could've had more towers, more enemy types, more maps, etc. The audio is really good, and the graphics aren't bad, either (the rain effects are especially good).
I can't move properly.
Interesting concept.
I liked your music but it didn't really fit the game in my opinion.
The idea is good, but the game gets repetitive fast. You could've added different weapons, different enemies, etc.
Also, I think it's weird that the arrows just go in a straight line. Adding gravity would've added some realism and more challenge.
The graphics and sound effects are fine for an LD game.
The game has great visuals, but it felt too simple. Also, it doesn't have any sound effects or music.
Well done game, reminds me a bit of Hotline Miami. :)
The controls were a bit off, otherwise nice game.
Great interpretation of the theme!
The presentation is also really nice, the tiles are drawn well.
The game is pretty easy though, and it gets repetitive fast.
The sounds get annoying quickly.
It's a fun little game, but gets repetitive after a while.
Great idea, nice execution.
It's lacking in its presentation, but has a surprising amount of depth. I still couldn't figure out a winning formula.
The descriptions and the random events are also fun.
You're not allowed to use content created by others in a Compo entry.
Very difficult and unforgiving. You could've added 3 "lives" that need to be lost before you lose.
One of the funniest games I tried.
The minimalistic presentation is great, too.
Remaking a classic game with the roles switched was the first idea I had when I saw the theme. I eventually dropped it, but I see you managed to recreate the old arcade feeling well with your game. Space Invaders is perfect for this kind of role reversal.
The graphics and sound effects are alright. The game plays well, but the enemy can take way too much damage, and the music quickly becomes repetitive.
Fun game, solid entry.
Fun little game, loved your sounds.
Fun idea, but I couldn't master the controls.
Pretty good, it's kinda like TIM, but with goats. :)
I quickly figured out what were you going for as I was reading lots of news reports on these events lately, but it was still powerful. Well done!
A role-reversed platformer is a great idea for this theme, but the guy refused to die when his lives were lost (I'm not sure whether it's a bug or I missed something).
Yeah, it definitely needs a goal, otherwise it's a bit pointless.
Funny game.
It was hard to figure out which modules to install, I think there could've been a preconfigured ship at the start of the game.
It's really hard. Liked the art style.
Cool idea, funny game.
I think it's a hard, but nice game.
Good idea and implementations, I think it's really hard, though.
I couldn't try it out, it just waited for more players.
The graphics are very nice, but it's way too hard. The cops gang up on you and you can't do much against them.
The graphics are nice, it could've had sound effects and music, although I don't really understand why you're the evil guy in the game.
Once I got the key, I couldn't climb up the ladder. Is it the end of game?
I liked your idea and the art style, but I think the game is too repetitive.
Unique take on the tower defense genre. Could've used more types of guns.
So I started the game without the sound turned on, and I just sat here for a while clicking on things randomly, completely baffled as I had no idea what I was supposed to do. :)
I think you could've used some visual indicators, too, like flashing the targets in the correct sequence or something.
Other than that, I liked your interpretation of the theme, your graphics and the music are well done.
I don't understand why I'm the villain in this game...
Fun little game, could've used sound effects and some visuals when you kill something (like spatters of blood).
Good idea. Could be improved by adding sound effects.
I liked it. I really had to think ahead because I can only use the axe once per level.
It's fun to go around destroying everything, but there's no real challenge.
Good idea, a bit too hard, I think.
The game is obviously very polished, but I couldn't learn the controls so I gave up.
Your presentation is fine (graphics and music). The game is obviously not finished.
I got this when I tried to start (on Windows 8 x64):
Traceback (most recent call last):

I don't really get this game. I just launched the rockets randomly and they hit their targets every time.
Otherwise, I like the idea.
I liked your idea. The game is obviously not finished, and I didn't have the patience to gather enough energy to use the goat, although it looks fun.
Very funny game, although the character could've moved faster.
I have no idea what the win condition is, but I won anyway.
Good idea, but way too hard in my opinion. I think the enemies should be easier to kill, and they could give you some slack every so often to avoid getting pinned by a lot of guys at the same time (a few seconds of burst fire followed by a short pause - you could say they are reloading or something).
I agree that it's a bit short. Also, I haven't tried every variations, but I almost always won. It should have more ways to fail.
Very detailed, nicely presented game.
A bit too short, and the sound effects could be improved.
I couldn't run it (64-bit Windows 8).
I liked the idea of a heist game with an abstract graphics style. I think the music loop is too short, so it quickly got repetitive, and the game got hard really soon.
While being a pirate certainly fits the theme, I couldn't get into this game because of the slow controls. Also, why am I able to sail through land?
I had trouble finding my way around the map. The graphics and animations are fine. It could've used some sound effects or music.
I like it. Nice presentation (music, graphics, sound effects are all good), good take on the reversed TD genre with some unique additions. The random nature of the game adds some replay value, but for me it also lead to very easy situations when only one tower could hurt my minions.
It's an unusual idea, but nice execution. Some win condition could've made it better and some indicator to know how far away you are from your goals.
Fun little game.
I'm sorry, but I'm not gonna sit through several minutes of text every time someone sees me.
It was way too hard, there are too many ways to lose.
It's fun, I like how you get imprisoned for life if they catch you. :)
It would've been nice to actually see the bullets and rockets when you shoot. Also, I think the enemies can take too much damage. Some of them can survive multiple shotgun blasts even at close range.
Otherwise it's a polished, nice game.
I liked that you were generous with the placement of checkpoints, otherwise it would've been very difficult.
Nice game. I had to use the map a lot though, so maybe there could've been some kind of indication in-game to help find your objectives.
Sound effects, more weapons and different types of enemies that attack you in different ways would've made it better.
I liked the cute animal drawings, and the idea is good.
Good idea, very challenging game.
I also liked the monochrome presentation and the sound effects.
Really nice graphics and music. You definitely nailed the mood, too. Yes, it's very short but it's to the point.
I have no experience with turn based RPGs, but I think it's way too hard.
It's a very nice game, but you have to start over from the beginning and sit through a lot of unskippable text if you make a mistake.
The game is very simplistic, you don't have many actions available. The presentation is nice.
Very good! Nice presentation, good gameplay, cool music.
Liked it. Very cute game! :) The sounds design and the music are really well done. Also, it's a great interpretation of both themes.
Nicely done game but I felt it got too monotonous quickly.
Great idea for the two themes and a really nicely presented game. I was really missing some game over screen and a way to restart the game though. Also, some variety in the enemies would have been cool.
Really great, unique idea, too bad the game is this hard. Fun nostalgic LCD graphics, though.
Interesting idea and pretty well made.
I liked the art style and the overall presentation, but ultimately I found it far too easy. I could go on for a long time just by keeping the left arrow pressed.
Fun idea. Using polygons instead of rectangular bricks also makes it cooler. The bull moves too fast compared to the skateboard though so I often found it impossible to catch it.
Is it just me or is it really hard? Really cute idea though.
Fun idea, nicely done. The controls are somewhat awkward and take some time to get used to. Loved the music.
Interesting idea. I couldn't always figure out the chain of events though.
This is one of those games that I'd really love to see a post-compo version of. You obviously had many great ideas, too bad the allotted time wasn't enough to fully realize them. And don't get me wrong, I still liked it. :)
Unique idea for the theme but it's well implemented as far as I can tell. I found it really hard to keep track of all the stock prices, so I'd often lost some good opportunities. But I'm not well versed in the stock market anyway. :)
I can't run this because you only have an OS/X build. :/
A bit hard but very well presented. Fun twist on the endless jumper genre.
Really interesting game with a lot of depth. I enjoyed playing it for quite some time.
Your link just goes to a shared folder but if I click on the index.html it just shows the contents instead of rendering the page. I suggest you upload the code to a free web hosting service (there are tons of them to choose from) so people can play this game in their browsers.
Hah! You and I had the same idea! :) Too bad you didn't have enough time to finish it, it would've been greatly improved by the addition of music and sound effects for example. I really like your art style though.
Woah, this is art, not just a game. :) Simple idea very well executed, implementing the theme nicely.
My favorite ending was when he just sits alone in front a computer screen, because that's the one I can identify with the most. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It implements both themes quite well but I found the game far too easy after I got the hang of it.
I'm not sure I understand the concept of this one. I planted the trees but after that I couldn't interact with anything.
Awesome, really well made game. The soundtrack, the graphics, the effects - all really well done. Good job!
Fun game, lovely presentation. I think the acorns are a bit too small though.
Glad to hear you were able to learn a lot during this compo, it's one of the main reasons I love it as well. Too bad you couldn't finish the game, but at least now you have a much better shot at it next time.
I liked the idea but I found the game unfairly difficult at first. After I managed to beat the first level by sheer luck the rest was pretty easy though. The game would need a lot of polish - the controls can be improved, as well as the graphics Sound effects and some music would also make it a lot better.
It's an interesting take on the theme but I found it ultimately too linear and short.
Interesting idea, a bit like Go or Reversi I guess. At first it was really difficult for me because the blending rules weren't obvious. Also, I don't quite understand the color switching function. Do I just get another random color then? The presentation is pretty nice though, it is a well made game.
Played it through the end! For a character who cannot jump, Steve sure spends a lot of time airborne. :) Really simple but well done implementation of the theme. Kinda wished for a bit more variety though.
Nice game, really fun idea and good-looking graphics. Audio is pretty good as well.
Nice, fun little game. I just wish I had more lives so I wouldn't die after one hit.
Love the idea and it's really well made. I'd love to see an extended post compo version later on.
Really funny idea and I love the presentation - the sprites look nice and the audio is great as well. I found the game a bit hard though, I die really early. :)
I really enjoyed this one, although I tend to like rhythm games in general. Nice effects, cool tracks. Reminded me of Beat Hazard, which is a great thing. :)
Woah, really creative, awesome little game! Loved the intro, very surreal and fun idea.
Great, really channeling game. Nicely implemented both themes.
Fun game but I found it too hard somehow. Often times it seemed impossible to me to lead all the guys to their destinations.
Hey, congrats on finishing your first LD! :) You implemented the themes well and it's kinda fun to run around with the car, however I found the game to be too easy once I mastered the controls. Also, some nice background and sound effects would've greatly improved the experience. But it's perfectly fine as a first game.
This might very well be my favorite entry yet. :) I was giggling like an idiot as soon as the intro started and then I mowed through the game with a stupid grin on my face. Love the over-the-top announcer, the exaggerated effects you cause with every move and all this - admittedly juvenile - humor. Very well presented, delightfully offensive, all around fun.
I really like the idea that you get disadvantaged as you grow because the available screen size shrinks. Adds a nice balancing element to the game. Nice art style and some great variation of enemies, too. I was also pleasantly surprised when the game switched to a vertical version just as I was starting to get a bit bored with the vertical shooting. Some sound effects and music would've really improved the game though.
I liked the idea and it's a nice twist on the themes. I guess it'd be even more fun a phone with touch controls (I tried the web version, it was working fine for me). It would be much better with some nice backgrounds, more variety in the enemies and music/sound though. Oh, I got about 320 point before I gave up. :)
Hey, you had a pretty similar idea to mine. I liked the grow reversing mechanic, it adds a bit of twist to the gameplay. I found the game a bit too hard though. Also, you should totally win in audio. :)
The Linux download link (https://www.timbeaudet.com/goods/ludumdare/ld39/edrive_linux.zip) results in a 404 error.
Pretty hard game, the rocks usually kill me in no time. :) Liked the soundtrack, it loops nicely. The movement was annoying to me because Chrome brings up the context menu whenever I press the right button so I had to dismiss that all the time. Also, for some reason I thought I should aim in the opposite direction to move, as the animation would seem to suggest that you expel some material for thrust (like in Osmos for example) so that was a bit confusing. But nice effort overall, enjoyed the Curiosity achievement. :)
Loved it!
It felt awesome to be silly with creating the "perfect" robot.
Nice, love to see logic games on LD. Cool idea and implementation, but the music got jarring after a while. I really don't like the fact that you can't just restart the current level when you lose, I lost motivation to try to beat my score like this because I don't want to replay all the previous levels. I think you could easily package a bit more polished version of this game for Steam and app stores, it has great potential!
Like the title, it's fun. The bug when the screen goes white is annoying and it occurred to me all the time so unfortunately I couldn't play much. Couldn't figure out what to do in the game really, I couldn't shoot so I guess I need to find a weapon first? But the other cars were easily destroying me as I was completely defenseless so I didn't get far. The sound effects are too sudden and very loud, I recommend turning the volume down a bit before playing. :)
Really nice made little game, the presentation really is excellent. I found it too easy and short though, I was able to reach the end too quickly. It's not always obvious which objects are for decoration and which can be jumped on, sometimes the same looking items can act both ways. Also, a victory screen would've been nice.
Nice, making a 3D racing game in such a short time is very ambitious and it turned out pretty well! Loved how you interpreted the theme, I'm sure we can save the planet by burning less watts on our GPUs. :) It was sorely missing some audio, at least some engine noises though. Controls and the car physics are somewhat iffy but that's to be expected as these are very hard to get right even in brand name games. Nice job!
Hah, you're literally running out of Power. :) Liked this interpretation of the theme! Music was a bit too quiet as you've mentioned but nicely composed. Cute rabbit-graphics and a funny story. The gameplay is a bit too simplistic and I couldn't really understand the criteria for the bunnies. I selected a couple that were mostly good at every task but got bad results at the end so I'm not sure how that works. Nice effort overall.
Wow, I'm actually pretty proud of myself that I could beat all the levels! The last one was giving me a really hard time. :) Liked the concept and it's nicely executed. I especially loved the animation for doing a flip and the main character is very well done. I think he's too small compared to the massive screen size though so it's easy to lose track of him. The dark backgrounds don't help so sometimes I had a really hard time finding him on the screen. Also, it's a bit strange that I carry a weapon yet I can't attack anything. :) While the background track is nice, I didn't think it fit the mood very well, something less upbeat and happy could've worked better to provide some atmosphere. Some more sound effects would've also greatly improved the feel, along with more visual feedback, e.g. flashing the screen when you get hurt. Liked the variety and amount of levels though, nice job for such a short time!
Nice visuals and sound effects, well done! The game itself was a bit too repetitive too me and kind of tedious having to fly all the way to the beginning of the level to refuel - some more helipads would've helped. It was also frustrating that I blew up even though according to the energy bar I still had some left. Also, the camera likes to lag behind the chopper which means I can't see what's in front of me.
The Graphics are nice, but some sound and more intuitive controls would've made it a much better experience.
Cute little game, I really like the concept and could easily see an improved version of this becoming a somewhat successful casual game. It is very unforgiving though, it's too easy to run out of your resources and it's very frustrating to die right next to the station. It also doesn't really have that "game feel", by which I mean a lot more visual and audio feedback when something happens in the game, e.g. particles flying out as you mine with some satisfying sound effect when you're done with an asteroid. Also, a parallax scrolling starry background would've made your movement through empty space more obvious. I agree that the background music doesn't really fit the mood, it'd need something much more fast paced to match the gameplay. Nice job on the visuals though!
Very nicely made graphics, props for that! I was trying to destroy the enemies with my weapon, only to eventually realize that I can't hurt them, which made the projectiles kinda pointless. It seems their only use is to break down the barriers but they didn't impact the gameplay much. Also, I understand what you were trying to do with the theme, too bad you didn't have time to flesh it out more because right now the game doesn't really fit the theme. The loop is nice but a bit too short so it gets old kinda fast. Some basic sound effects would've made it a lot better.
Hilarious! :D Amazing title. Unfortunately the game often locked up for me, didn't react to any of the buttons so I couldn't reach the end. Great fun though.
I won! :) Really impressive game for just a couple of hours of work, great concept combining different genres. I didn't like the controls though, I would've liked it much more if I could just hold the cursor keys instead of having to press them repeatedly. Fun story and nicely written though!
I unfortunately get an exception when I try to run it under Linux (64 bit Fedora) but I'll try it again on another box.
The error is: `java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /tmp/libgdxattila/31ce78a2/liblwjgl64.so: libjawt.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory`
Maybe someone knows how to solve this?
Nice interpretation of the theme, clean minimalist but stylish graphics/interface. As mentioned before, a way to fast-forward the dialogue would've been handy, especially when replaying for the alternate endings. Cool sound design, although I think you had the turn signal sound effect even when the car was supposed to go straight. :) Oh, and no need to apologize for your English, it was perfectly fine. :)
Brilliant idea on making the health and ammo the same resource, I'd love to explore this more! Also, it fits the theme really nicely. Nice presentation, I especially liked the soundtrack and sound effects. The game is pretty hard though and the limited number of lives make it frustrating, I had to give up beating it because I didn't want to replay the same levels over and over. The way the enemies become invulnerable after a hit should've been explained somehow because I spent too much time trying to hit them in this state, not realizing why I can't destroy them. It's especially a pain point in this game where literally every bullet counts.
Awesome idea, great use of the theme! Took me two tries to beat it and even then only just barely, though the strategy becomes kind of obvious if you think about the cards. I love how you literally "run out of power" as the game progresses. Nice pixel graphics and great visual feedback as the crowd rises up against you. Also, really funny descriptions. Some basic sound effects and a background track would've improved the mood though.
Really nicely presented game, loved the sound design and the graphics. Bit too hard for me, I couldn't get very far. I think there is a bug with the rifle because I was shooting them several times but they wouldn't die. The long wait after each turn is somewhat annoying but it might be better in the desktop version (only tried the web player).
Amazing game (can't believe it's your first entry), reached wave 6 and was happy to spend hours playing it!
Congratulations on your entry, as about some aspects to improve, the controls could be less sensitive, and audio, everyone loves some sounds!
Congrats again and keep up the great games!
I can definitely relate to the concept, I know how jarring it can be to leave your safe programming zone and face the outside world. :) So it definitely gets good grades for mood, further improved by the soundtrack and overall design. However, I have to agree with the previous commenters about many of the problems with the game. It was too dark to see clearly, the character moves too slowly and the distances are too big so it gets a bit frustrating. I didn't know where to go/what to do either but that's probably by design and fits the theme somewhat. Also, I didn't like that you can't walk diagonally and there were some collision bugs, sometimes I got stuck in doors. So nice idea overall but the execution could've used a bit more work in my opinion.
Really nice entry, although I found it a bit too hard. Couldn't finish it, always ran out of souls. The graphics and background track provided a great atmosphere but some of the sound effects were too cheesy for the game - especially the jump effect. Also, it would be nice to look down before jumping in a hole because right now you have no way of knowing what you're going to hit. Also, I have no idea what the use of the sword is but maybe I just didn't get to a point where it'd be helpful.
Strange, it doesn't work for me in Chrome.
Here is the stacktrace I get in the console:
``` Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'level' of null at murmures.Renderer.drawTiles (renderer.js:180) at renderer.js:45 at murmures.EventDispatcher.emitEvent (event.js:11) at ld39.js:92 at murmures.EventDispatcher.emitEvent (event.js:11) at input.js:64 ```
Overall, it's a very nice game, with a pretty unique idea for the theme. The graphics and audio were fun, however maybe the recharging time could be shorter.
Keep it up!
Good job, really well done game. Liked the retro computer presentation and the sound effects to match. It's nice to have this many levels, felt pretty long for an LD game, however I think they were a bit too easy and slow for my taste. Also, the jumping/falling felt too slow for me, maybe it would be more fun with a bit higher gravity. Great job on the soundtrack as well!
Whew, finally won! :) What a tense game, really great fun. Nice FTL vibes. :) I liked how all of the systems had some real effect on the gameplay, especially the rooms going dark if you lose the aux unit. Some things that could be improved:
- It would be nice to have some sort of indication when I'm in the right position to pick up/insert the batteries. Maybe a bit of glow effect. Right now I had to mess around quite a bit to be close enough and at the right angle, which is not nice in such a fast paced game. - Not sure if I like the controls. I think it could work better with just arrow keys + some other key to interact instead of having to use the mouse. - It's hard to tell how healthy the systems are just by looking at the color of their icons. I would've liked some progress bars more, like what you used for the oxygen/hull integrity. - You don't get notified when the thrusters go down the same way you would for the other systems. That made me forgot about it once or twice. - Once I threw a battery in the walls behind the chargers and then couldn't get it out. :( - If I lost all my crew, then who is talking to me? :)
Nice job overall, one of my favorites so far!
Fun retro style, nice effects, too. I'm not very good at platformers so I couldn't finish it though, there were places where I couldn't see any way out. I liked the sense of urgency that the mushroom meter brings but maybe it would be more fun with some other obstacles, not just a race against the clock. Great job though!
It's really more fun than you would expect, good entry!
I agree with the other comments, the mechanic is great, but some sort of notification could've made it a much better game experience!
Liked the concept, bit similar to what I came up with. :) I couldn't figure out where the finish line is, a map or some sort of indication would have helped but I guess it's part of the experience to have to navigate the maze. A bit of simple car physics would've made it a lot better, like some basic acceleration/breaking and smooth turns because right now it doesn't feel like you're driving a car. Appreciate the effort you put into making a soundtrack as well but the tunes get old pretty fast. :) Not bad game though, keep it up. :)
Hah, seems like we had the same idea for the theme! :) Really solid entry, especially for just 6 hours. I liked the simple soundtrack and how all the art assets fit together to give it a consistent theme. I actually liked how unpredictable the other cars are, it really forces you to pay attention and react quickly. :) I would have liked some more challenge though as the game gets repetitive quickly (e.g. the car could speed up gradually as you play). Also, some more types of powerups would've made it more interesting. Sometimes the items would spawn on top of each other which makes it hard or impossible to collect the fuel tanks.
