LD24 — Evolution

Natural Selection: Travel Agency by lightspeedlucas 2012-09-10T14:55:00

Very solid all-around entry. My only complaint is that it took me a little while to figure out the discrepancy between the screen wrapping and the DNA areas; went extinct several times by flying past the goal. If the map scrolled and you could explore islands and continents, with a little bit of species progression, I could play this for a very long time.

NOTE: If you get the missing dll error, install the x86 version of the runtime instead of the x64 as the author suggested.

Bullet Evolution by Mattykins 2012-09-10T15:03:00

Wow, that is really hard... or maybe I'm just terrible at these games. Seems like it could use some better feedback to the user, and maybe a progression of enemies so you're not thrown into the crazy mix from the start. Cool concept, though.

For some reason it crashed after awhile with the error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "main.py", line 32, in <module>
pygame.error: Couldn't open gunner.png

Seems like the file's there so I'm not sure why that happened.

Battle Evolved by TobiasNL 2012-09-10T15:10:00

Awesome! Outstanding! Including the training area was a very nice touch since the controls are a little odd. In fact, I think the controls are my ONLY complaint about this one, otherwise it plays very smoothly and seems well polished. Sounds, music, graphics, and even the balance are very well tuned for 48 hours. Great job!

Monsieur Evolution by monsieur_nez 2012-08-30T00:37:00

Laughed out loud upon seeing the first and third stages. Wheelchair man is a definite win. The controls and collision are terribly rough and buggy, but who cares? I played through it anyway and enjoyed it more than a lot of polished entries.

Curse of Hardai by Incredible Ape 2012-08-28T18:36:00

Very smooth controls, slick graphics, seems to run well. Could definitely use more depth in the challenges presented and more variety in how they're combined, but it seems like you've got an extremely solid start here. Despite the simplicity of the content, the presentation makes it quite enjoyable.

Cows VS Wolves by FatalCaca 2012-08-30T02:19:00

The good: Graphics are simple but layers and animation are effective. Certain controls like WASD to scroll "just work" as you'd expect (at least for me). Concept is complex enough to be interesting.
The not-so-good: Controlling multiple cows gets very tedious, as others have mentioned. I wanted some kind of group selection and the ability to set paths for multiple turns. Also, the game crashed for me when I minimized and restored the window.
All in all it's a good entry, with a lot of potential for future development.

DrinkMilk by Ditto 2012-08-29T22:23:00

Definitely one of the best I've played so far. You managed to deliver in every category. A little more feedback about what the different appearances mean and what your offensive capabilities are would help. Also I'm not sure what benefit growing provides (more health somehow?). Great game, though.

ROVOLUTION by Krise20 2012-09-10T14:41:00

Cool idea. Could see it becoming a lot of fun with more interesting abilities and challenges. Having informative quizzes is a nice touch. Maybe develop it as an educational game?

Outside of the Test Tube by ramoncb 2012-08-29T22:32:00

I like the visual style and flavor of it. The tower defense aspects are a little plain, but that's to be expected from the time and format. For me, at least, the areas that I could click didn't line up with the petri dishes. I'd also like some way to speed up the waves. Nice little game though, and I'd like to see it developed further.

Monster League by Loginaut 2012-09-07T14:59:00

Pretty cool idea; I really enjoyed the way evolutions change the appearance of your monster. Battles could definitely use some work. A little bit of sound and animation (and maybe some different attack types?) could go a long way. It also seems like it's not possible to do more than 1 damage? My four armed spike snake with all points in strength won handily but just did 1 damage every time... Still, it's a fun little game with good potential.

Acquire Tophat by SasoriDama 2012-08-27T17:43:00

Interesting concept. My main sticking point was the jump mechanics. Being able to vary jump height based on how long you hold down the button would add a lot, since getting caught on edges or overshooting pickups can be a disincentive to trying some of the tougher routes. Also, it wasn't clear why IT kept evolving without picking up points, so having to actually compete over them (maybe multiple paths, forcing the player to pick a riskier one for more reward?) would help emphasize the theme.

The bloody princess of Ludumia by khoa 2012-08-27T17:52:00

Not bad! The only things I found myself wishing for were a way to scare/herd the ludums and separate them out a bit, and a way to move through them without killing them (maybe a different button to attack?). Pretty fun, though.

Survivalism by Walt 2012-08-29T21:38:00

Seems pretty cool. Took me a little while to figure out how to defeat enemies, but once I got the hang of it, it's smooth and fairly interesting. My main criticisms are that the red and orange alleles are a little too similar in color, and that it would play better with a game pad. Very well done overall.

DNA Soup by Prealpha 2012-08-29T21:49:00

Interesting concept, but I never really saw much of the mechanics because the viruses never spawned fast enough to be an obstacle. Also, I couldn't tell whether anything was happening with the defensive cells, they didn't see to explode as advertised. Seems like with some balancing it could be a fun game.

Feesh. by Teejay5 2012-08-29T22:02:00

I like the visual style, especially the microscope slide looking background. The controls took a little while to get the hang of; I think it might be easier if the background had a little more structure in it so it was clearer what your velocity is at any given time. Definitely reminiscent of some other similar "eat to grow" games. Good job!

Beyond Our Sacred Sun by the31 2012-09-17T15:27:00

Started out going in the wrong direction (since there weren't stars further away) and ended up with a nice interplanetary civilization dumped right into the black hole.

Seems like a pretty cool game for 4 hours of development. Any plans to take it further?

Gene Binder by xhunterko 2012-08-30T02:23:00

More than a bit confusing. The concept seems interesting, and I was able to figure out how to change genes with a little trial and error, but it's not quite clear what the goal is. Reminds me of that time I tried to learn to play Foldit... could be cool with some more levels and more explanation.

Boxy the Boxcat in Evolution Escapades by matthias_zarzecki 2012-08-30T00:45:00

It's damn good.

Obelisk Preserver by Nanolotl 2012-09-08T19:30:00

Excellent game. I think it's got all the right elements, but needs some balance tweaks to make it less frustrating. The specific things that bothered me were:
-the FOV is definitely too narrow, as others have mentioned. became very hard to see monsters before they reached the obelisk
-monster hitboxes not always accurate (shooting tall ones in the top of the head doesn't seem to work?)
-darwinium pickup range could be increased quite a bit
-maybe make it a bit easier to see projectiles and the battlefield in general. a minimap/radar would also help with this
Great job, though! Would like to see this refined further, could become really addictive.

Lenimentus by firehand94 2012-08-28T02:48:00

Nice game, but I'm terrible at it! The background tiles are a bit high contrast to fit with the DNA, but overall the graphics are solid, gameplay feels smooth, there's a moderately interesting variety of weapons/enemies, and balance is good (just hard!)

GIFT by jellonator 2012-08-29T22:13:00

Nicely done! Achievements and everything... My main problem (aside from it being very difficult in general, which is fine) is that bullets are a bit hard to see. Also, maybe some levels should include checkpoints? I gave up after having to repeat a jumping puzzle one too many times. Still, very impressive for 48 hours.

Lucid by Redream 2012-08-28T02:17:00

Good use of minimal graphics, tasteful sound, and overall smooth experience. After getting the 'power' chest, the platform pushed me into the wall and I got stuck, so that was as far as I got. My only criticism up to that point is that it's a bit awkward holding left shift while using WASD. All in all a very good entry.

Primordial Smackdown by Daisuke909 2012-09-10T15:21:00

Wanted to like this one, but I was annoyed by two main things. First, being unable to control your cephalopod can make it tedious when there aren't many enemies. Second, why do my offspring always seem to be losing stats on the whole??? The only way I was able to gain any at all was by putting all my negatives in vision (which apparently can't go below 2?) but even so I wasn't able to defeat the two big sea scorpion things (and I don't think there's anything I could have done differently). Definitely an interesting concept, and with some more time spent on the mechanics it could be a lot of fun.

LD25 — You are the Villain

Bad Puppy by csanyk 2012-12-20T03:59:00

Best 15 seconds of my day, hands down.

HA!HA!HA! by KEFIR 2012-12-18T16:09:00

Definitely needs more explanation! It seemed like there were several mechanics that made the game interesting but confuse first time players, such as police defusing bombs or holding up your agents at bomb sites. More instructions and some more graphical cues would add a lot. Gameplay was quite fun, though, so good job!

Mordor Must Resist! by ArkadyDracul 2012-12-18T15:43:00

Hobbits are truly fearsome enemies! Their shortness is supreme.

Victor Grozny by DustyStylus 2012-12-18T15:39:00

Great job! Once I figured out how the dials worked, it was pretty satisfying to track down targets, and the sounds are particularly effective. I found myself wishing that the indicators were some kind of volume bars instead of just light colors, to make it easier to tell when they're full vs almost full.

Decommissioner by Crowbeak 2012-12-17T05:41:00

Nice story, nice twist, well-written all around. I also spent quite a bit of time managing robots; you could make a whole game out of that!

Notlock the Villan (Ludum Dare 25 Singpolyma) by singpolyma 2012-12-18T16:17:00

Wasn't quite clear what the objective is (took some trial and error) and the behavior of the enemies was a bit frustrating to predict. I think it would add a lot if there were more trees and they obscured vision, and if enemies moved in discernible patterns. Hope you spend some more time on this, it's definitely got potential!

Goatocalypse by atrodo 2012-12-18T15:19:00

Runs smoothly and collision seems to work well. I didn't notice much of any difference between the weapon types and, as previous comments have mentioned, there should be a way to block/reflect bullets.

Curse You! by caasi 2012-12-17T05:13:00

Short, sweet, well-executed, and fits the theme perfectly. All it needs is an infinite mode and a catchy chiptune soundtrack to devour my life.

Tick! by purrpurr 2012-12-20T03:48:00

Story was a bit confusing, but funny. Graphics were sweet, especially in fights. I want to play a full-length first person cow vs. chicken fighting game, now!

Purple Fingers by heloheu 2012-12-17T03:49:00

Nice concept! Fits the theme perfectly and made for a pretty fun game. I like the graphical style a lot, too. My only suggestions are that the curse should spread a bit faster (since the real challenge is in planting it on hard-to-reach areas), and the enemy behaviors should be a little more consistent/predictable (but not necessarily simple!).

HeroDontSavePrincess by pvp 2012-12-20T04:20:00

Good job for a first-time entry! It was a little unclear what effect the box has on the hero, and as others have said, you run out of good spots quickly. The graphics fit together really well, and the simplicity is perfect for LD. Can't wait to see what you come up with next time!

Joe, the bad jack! (HTML5) by sletari 2012-12-18T15:56:00

Surprisingly fun! Even the killer ghost ending somehow added rather than detracted from the experience. If you make a post-compo version, I recommend keeping some version of this bug, maybe a flying ghost chopping down an infinite forest...

Puny Heroes by Blooperly 2012-12-18T16:37:00

Needs some balance/polish/bug fixing (obviously) but I like the concept. Would be very cool to add things like traps and variable dungeon layouts.

Splendorman by raubana 2012-12-18T16:27:00

I want to like it, but can't really see how to play it. Movement is frustrating, going near the notes does nothing, and going near the thing I thought I was supposed to be hunting just freezes me in static? Some aspects (like the graphics) seem well done but it needs better explanation and some work on the controls to be playable. Hope you keep working on it!

Tripe Traps by Lyonsbanner 2012-12-17T15:28:00

Nice little game. I think if you added some different kinds of traps, made the hero a little unpredictable (have him 'fake out' the player sometimes by stopping or turning back), and generally spiced things up, it could definitely go places. Good job!

Event Horizon by SelectricSimian 2012-12-17T05:19:00

Excellent. Graphics and sound (and gameplay) are simple but very well polished. Controlling the asteroids accurately is quite challenging!

who wants to be a super villain by madpew 2012-12-17T14:57:00

Great music. I had a really hard time with this theme, too... better luck next time, I guess!

The other side by vrld 2012-12-17T04:01:00

Nice entry! I considered a few ideas of this sort (role-reversal in classic games), but you did lots of them! And a pretty well-polished execution, at that. It did take me a few tries in space invaders to realize that I was supposed to let the player win, though. Heh.

The World is Mine! by matthias_zarzecki 2012-12-17T03:40:00

Absolutely fantastic. Played through the whole thing. It's too easy, and there are a few graphical issues (some city labels were inside the continents for me), but for a compo game this is golden.

Eater by RokB 2012-12-18T15:51:00

Great job for a first time entry! It has all the important components: multiple levels, 'enemy' types, a story, sound, music, and an ending. My only complaint is that in the final stage, often there are not gaps between the bombs large enough to fit through, or when you get into the gaps you then eat something which makes you too big. Nice job.

Unwavering Evil by DrSuperSocks 2012-12-20T04:15:00

Not bad! Telekinesis was a little disappointing; I wanted to be able to move things horizontally, smash mechs into infantry, and that kind of thing.

Blob Revolution by kill0u 2012-12-17T05:10:00

Very well done, reminds me a bit of Gish with the wall-sticking mechanics. I was impressed by how much content you had (multiple levels, story, a boss, and everything!) without skimping on graphics, sound, or gameplay. I did have some trouble controlling my movement, however. I'd love to see a post-compo version with a bit more polish on the controls (or maybe I just need to l2p?). Great job!

PhaseJerk by Suds 2012-12-20T03:56:00

Awesome concept! My biggest frustration was that it's very hard to determine and keep track of which 'phase' the phantom blocks are in, and which way you should be switching. One solution would be to make the phantom blocks obviously color-coded, and display a phase bar somewhere to indicate the order of the phases and which phase you're currently in, so you can tell at a glance which direction and how many phases you'll have to switch during a jump. Please, please keep working on this!

Robot Hunts Kitten by edric_garran 2012-12-20T04:24:00

Too many kittens; robot cannot hunt them all! I like your sprites a lot, and the charge shot mechanic is cool. Sounds would add a lot to this.

Real Eyes by colincapurso 2012-12-20T04:27:00

Nice graphics. Needs more levels!

Path to Death by Steven Colling 2012-12-20T04:46:00

Amazing job. SO many techs, incredibly well polished, and well-founded concept. It's a little difficult to tell what's going on at times, but considering the limitations I think the UI's pretty great. Deserves to be a full retail game, for sure.

Like Insects by eelfroth 2012-12-18T15:27:00

I absolutely LOVE the graphical style of this, and the shooting mechanics are very well polished and satisfying. Wish it were a little easier to harvest skulls (the jumping could use some work, or allow the player to harvest just by facing the corpse). Very well done overall, and I hope you continue working on this one!

Also just a note, the game didn't exit cleanly for me on Win64, pressing ESC got me out of the window but didn't end the process.

Dig-Dug Dungeon by bigbadwofl 2012-12-17T15:20:00

Had a lot of fun digging around (I love fortress design!) but got frustrated with the AI hanging. Tried to widen some hallways in my base, but that ended up freezing it permanently. Put some kind of failure condition in your (I assume it's pathfinding), add a few types of entities, and I could spend hours on this. Great soundtrack, too.

Agents by recursive frog 2012-12-18T16:03:00

I really, really wanted to play this, but couldn't get the voice recognition to work on my Nexus 7. The 'speak now' tone plays when the game starts, but after calling the agent, it doesn't seem to hear my commands. I'll keep trying and hope I can find a way around it.

Waldo by h.attila 2012-12-20T04:08:00

Nice game, I really like the concept. Three suggestions: hide the playing field while the targets are showing so that the player has to memorize them beforehand, add a severe penalty for shooting people who aren't the target, and give some kind of bonus for headshots.

LD26 — Minimalism

Midnight Inertia by Michcioperz 2013-04-29T14:24:00

As others have said, there doesn't seem to be a way to bounce, so I just enjoyed the ride. Nice aesthetic.

Composition with Yellow, Red, and Blue by DaveDobson 2013-04-30T16:07:00

This is great! The puzzle mechanics are surprisingly challenging and interesting, and the graphics and sounds do their jobs well. The later stages get hard, but not too hard; I think the balance is about right. I think my favorite part is the stage transitions. My only complaint is that on one of the later stages the 3 attractor is on the left side and the 2 is on the right, making it a little counterintuitive. Nice job, though!

Car Lancers by jwolf 2013-04-30T03:58:00

Nice game, I really like the concept! Aside from the difficulty of playing it by myself with the touchy controls, my main suggestion is to somehow make it clearer how the cars are coming together, and give more impression of speed? Good job, though.

If only I had a Virtual Boy, I could play it in 3D...

Mini Pirates! by josefnpat 2013-04-29T04:37:00

Love this. Reminds me of Flotilla. Would love to play a version with 100 times as many random events.

Blurr by Rabbits... 2013-05-01T00:35:00

I like the idea behind this, but it was a little too confusing for me. I guess that was part of the point, but I felt like there wasn't effective feedback, or my actions didn't have predictable enough results. That said, I always like these kind of abstract conceptual games.

Rokhopr by David Durham 2013-04-29T20:29:00

This is very fun, thematically consistent, and well executed. It's also respectably difficult, which is good! Mechanically, I think it would be nice to have some indicator of which direction the next rocks will be in, and also perhaps a way to correct your direction after a bad landing? Maybe some kind of limited 'double jump' type boost in the air. Great job though, really enjoyed it.

YLBIN by intripoon 2013-04-29T04:08:00

Good job, you definitely managed to add some interest to the standard snake formula. The timing is very challenging! I got to level 14 but had to retry so many times on the earlier levels that my concentration was breaking down. Still want to keep playing, though!

Planes by phaze0 2013-04-30T05:06:00

Makes me want this as a handheld version! I like the mix of keyboard + virtual hardware buttons controls, and the grayscale LCD. Well done!

I did notice at one point in Game 2 I managed to get an exploding plane stuck at the far right bottom enemy slot. Not quite sure what specific action caused it other than shooting at point blank.

goldmine by frosty 2013-05-18T16:33:00

This was a lot of fun! The graphical style worked very well, and the simple audio also fit perfectly. The levels were pretty well designed with a good amount of variety. If you keep working on it, it would be worth spending some time on the edge mechanics for jumping and landing on platforms, because it was sometimes too mushy and sometimes too touchy. Great job all in all, though.

TNAFT by Mysterarts 2013-04-30T17:23:00

Nice job, and good use of the theme! I'm pretty clueless when it comes to colors, and this game measures that accurately, heh. The scoreboard with colors instead of names is a very nice touch.

Chameleon by Helco 2013-04-29T14:41:00

Worked fine for me on win7 x64; I must have the proper libraries installed.

I really like the noisy pixel level style, and overall the graphics and audio are very effective. Eating flies is hard, though! Maybe you should increase the hitbox size a little and/or make them land for a moment? Well done in any case!

SPACE STATION by Zaxuhe 2013-05-18T16:22:00

This was pretty good. Including a tutorial was very helpful. My two main suggestions are to add some kind of preview for where modules will be placed or allow them to be dragged around after placement, and to make a default crew assignment so I don't have to send my gunners into the lasers at the start of every battle. Other than that it was quite fun, although a bit too easy, and I thought the graphical style was very consistent and effective. Good job!

JuggleSim by mr_tag 2013-04-29T20:33:00

Love this concept. It's got a pretty harsh learning curve (even on easy) but it's rewarding when you get it right. If only I could stop crossing my balls in the air... Well done though, and I especially like the control scheme.

... by Dir3kt 2013-04-29T19:48:00

I really like this one. The mechanics are tight, the puzzles are well designed, and the graphics/audio fit perfectly. Usually I try to offer some kind of suggestion for improvement, but this is pretty much complete. Also, wonderful secret level! Great job!

Centroid by daniel 2013-04-29T03:18:00

Interesting concept, and surprisingly challenging! My only suggestion is to allow restarting the game after a loss.

Perfection Achieved by Misael.K 2013-04-30T05:20:00

For all my searching and clicking, I can't seem to make it past the first painting. Oh well, it was fun anyway! It's interesting that it really does force you to look closely at great art. My only complaint is that you didn't think that pipe should stay there. I definitely remember it being in the original...

shon by bitnenfer 2013-04-29T20:15:00

Very well done, i like the calm and patient mood of it. The audio, in particular, fits perfectly. Gameplay could be more complex, but this is a solid foundation.

Space Jellyfish by [-BipolarDesign+] 2013-04-30T15:12:00

Very nice little game. I thought you did a great job on the animations, controls (multiple control schemes!), and enemy movements in particular. The audio was simple but effective. This isn't exactly a complaint, but I kinda wished the stars were parallaxed in the background. I'm a sucker for a good parallax.

Rock Paper RPG by Jan Marcano 2013-04-30T04:45:00

Cute little game. Very random, of course, but I liked the monochrome palette and tiny window. I thought the sound effects were a little bit too loud compared to the music. Good job!

Block Runner by Flai 2013-04-29T15:02:00

Glad you didn't give up! Pretty impressive for only 5 hours of work, including multiple levels and an editor and everything. The jumping mechanics aren't bad, but I feel like they could use even more tuning since they're so central to the game. Well done, though! I'm curious what your other prototypes were...

Atrakt 4096 by foumart 2013-04-30T04:11:00

Interesting concept, but I had a hard time figuring out how to play it. Some more instructions such as basic mechanics and goals would help a lot. Maybe you could fill in that empty Help menu? ;)

XYZ by ataxkt 2013-05-01T01:53:00

Very nice, stylish, polished mechanics and effective minimalist interface. I wish there were a bit more challenge or complexity to the gameplay, but this is very impressive work for 48 hours. Great job!

Shape Attack by Krise20 2013-04-29T14:34:00

Simple, smooth, nice. The two suggestions I have are to make it automatically advance after you've cleaned up all the shapes in a wave (I was pressing space; I assume that's what I'm supposed to do?) and maybe to make your size change with health to make it easier/harder to dodge things. Good job!

Don't Smash The Vase by CryoGenesis 2013-04-29T15:30:00

Nicely done. Very smooth but challenging control mechanic. I smashed a lot of vases, but had a lot of fun doing it!

Minimalists Tower by Bzaraticus 2013-04-30T02:27:00

I also get the "LD26 has stopped working" crash, Windows 7 x64

Be Still by metadept 2013-04-29T04:24:00

@deathray I was hoping to add more progression and conclusion, but didn't have time. Guess it'll have to wait for a post-compo version...

SpaceGeometry : The Arcade Version by metaldemon 2013-04-30T23:35:00

Nice little shooter! I liked your opening sequence, and the mechanics all seem pretty smooth and solid. I didn't feel like it fit the theme all that well, except in that the enemies are abstract geometry, but this is well put together. If only the score weren't measured in potatoes :( Good job, though!

Don't Hit The Core by TheSarcastic 2013-05-01T14:03:00

Interesting idea. I noticed a couple of bugs such as being unable to click on white pieces sometimes, and the last piece remaining green forever. I definitely like the visual style/layout though. Hope to see more development on this!

Evil cubes by raoz 2013-04-29T19:35:00

Pretty well made game with an amusing concept. It was a little confusing at first because there's no visual indication of how/where you're attacking. My only other suggestion would be to tighten up the movement a bit; the inertia makes it pretty hard to dodge around. Good job!

Sasu by CoffeeOnimal 2013-04-30T06:29:00

I win! The hardest part was getting into combat with enough of the shoji visible to poke out all the panels. Nice scene though, and certainly an unusual concept. Good job!

Balls! by pknowles 2013-04-30T17:34:00

I really like this one. The resource system is very cool, and reminds me of some ideas I've had for circular resource allocations (and makes me want to try some more!). The framerate got pretty bad after a little while (running in Chrome on OSX) but I thought your graphics and visual composition were very effective. My only suggestion is to add some clearer indication of how well you're doing, or what your strength in each of the categories is relative to the wave you're on. I can't tell whether I'm good at this or whether it's just easy? It's certainly fun, though. Great job!

Balls! by pknowles 2013-04-30T17:44:00

...also, a way to toggle the sound would be nice, since I ended up 'setting and forgetting' this and just watching it run for awhile.

Kanvas Kombat by tnovelli 2013-04-29T04:28:00

The mechanics are pretty rough, but I really like your scenery.

Mass Splitter by scriptorum 2013-04-30T15:50:00

Cool concept, definitely would have liked some more content. Once I lit the targets up I used my remaining mass to fling myself around space... Pretty fun!

Union by theplotlessplot 2013-05-01T00:08:00

I like the aesthetics and mood of this one. The actual gameplay is a bit simplistic and difficult, but the mechanic of adding together your boxes is cool. It seems like you could do a lot with the random placement of the boxes, by having them in combinations of procedurally arranged patterns or something. Nice job!

(Follow the) Line by Chman 2013-04-30T05:00:00

Nicely done! Seems like I've played several similar flash-based snakelike games this time, and had a really hard time with the quick timing in all of them. Maybe I'm just bad at it? Great presentation in any case. All it needs is for the direction changes to be timed with some bumpin' chiptunes soundtrack and you'd have a modern rhythm classic.

Priorities by hissssssssss 2013-04-29T14:19:00

"Well this house is nice and clean, let's see what those hearts look like."
*wall of black*
"Crap."

Cool concept, fits the theme well. I found myself wishing for a way to move the good priorities around and organize them, since often they were in front of (and blocking) the bad ones. Good job!

TOOM by PoV 2013-04-30T03:39:00

Very satisfying little adventure with GREAT visual presentation. Some of the action combinations don't make much sense, but in that regard it's very much in the vein of the classic point and clicks. Thanks for this wonderful little game!

Rocky Flight Balloon by Smaxx 2013-04-29T14:46:00

Nicely done, runs smoothly and looks good! Bonus points for including multiple difficulties. My only complaint is that it could really use music. Some kind of catchy chiptune loop would go a long way toward keeping me playing.

VTanks by jpverkamp 2013-04-30T03:53:00

I miss Scorched Earth : (

Nice game, and glad to see you decided to stick it out and submit instead of giving up! I liked the terrain mechanics, but I wish there were a more visual way to see your power (like the length of your barrel?) so that it would be a little easier to learn. Good job!

Amish Brothers by Levi D. Smith 2013-04-30T05:13:00

Nice voice acting, and did you record the music, too? I felt like it needed some kind of score or time limit to make the advancing levels feel meaningful. You could also add some sheep running in different directions or changing directions in later levels.

MiniMaul by CloudiestNights 2013-04-30T02:25:00

Nice little game, with pretty satisfying controls and animations. Some very simple sound would add a lot to this. I also found myself wishing to be able to wall jump and do other sweet ninja moves, but I guess it had to be minimal :) Good job!

DoubleW by CharlesBoury 2013-04-30T06:13:00

Elegant and undeniably minimalist. I like your muted palettes, and the fact that there are no points or shallow win conditions. As others have said, however, audio would have added a lot. Nice job!

OZE by BigBlackBeard 2013-04-30T04:50:00

Interesting concept, a good mix of puzzle and timing. The collision effects are very satisfying. I found the music got a little annoying after a while, but wasn't a big problem. It seems like mouse control might be cool, but could take some time to implement effectively. Good job overall!

Also, very nice logo, heh.

Comic Sans: The Game by FloatingGhost 2013-04-29T14:27:00

Hahah, cute! What if we don't want to rescue it, though?? My only suggestion is to make projectiles/enemies Times New Roman letters for thematic effect.

Play The Game by Fervir 2013-04-29T15:08:00

Nice! It's like MS Paint WarioWare! I think the scribbled style works really well since it's consistent throughout, and the games have a pretty good variety. You should make the instruction message stay up a little longer and not be dismissed by clicking, though, since often I was clicking madly from the last game and dismissed the instructions before I got a chance to read them. Great job, though.

Employment by Fabien Porée 2013-04-29T14:58:00

Your dream job: writer

This is an interesting concept and I like that it has both a story and some minigame-type things. Not being able to see objects made it pretty difficult to make sense of, at times. Finding a potted plant felt like discovering a great secret. Would be interested to see a more fleshed-out version in the future!

Piano Stairs by robmozart 2013-04-30T17:05:00

I like the concept, but I kind of wish the notes didn't fire when switching velocity, so that I could play actual tunes. Also it seems like adding some gravity (so the notes curve downward) and/or reversing the incline of the stairs would help make it easier to target individual stairs. Hope you keep developing this idea!

Bipolar Bradley by cason 2013-04-30T04:37:00

I have literally no clue what is going on, but I managed to find the edge of the world, and jump off. Did I win? I certainly FEEL like a winner.

Avoid by jm77345 2013-04-29T15:34:00

Interesting, I like the appearance of the blocks. I have two suggestions: First, some kind of total score or indication of how long you've survived. Second, make it possible to move diagonally. Hope to see you continue working on this!

ClickStory by ComicSans 2013-04-30T15:30:00

Interesting concept. I had to read comments to realize you could type in commands. It would be good if there were SOME guidance on what sorts of actions you could take (I tried several without success). I definitely like the mixed click/text format, though. Nice job!

Writer's Block by Christopher Schulte 2013-04-29T02:48:00

This is fantastic. Should keep me occupied until the rating opens up.

My Little Robo by m64 2013-04-29T20:58:00

Really, really like this concept. I have a hard time wrapping my mind around the servo configuration (partly since I keep flopping the robot around in weird ways) so maybe you could put a tiny label with arrows and keys on each joint? I also managed to rip my robot apart by getting stuck under the shelf, but that kinda added to the fun and humor of the whole thing. Great job!

(also, I saw you had a problem running my game; if you could send me an email with some more details I'd really appreciate it)

Pursuit of Happiness by paranoiks 2013-04-29T04:21:00

I liked the aesthetics and the mechanics of moving/color switching/teleportation, as well as the integration with the story. Sort of expected the levels to get challenging, but I'm not entirely disappointed that they didn't. Very pleasant experience.

Zrist by Andres B. Gonzalez 2013-04-29T20:22:00

I like the variety of the levels, the graphics are simple but effective, and the controls are responsive. This game is hard, though! I would suggest adding multiple difficulties and/or making the speed gradually ramp up as you make progress. Good job!

City Walk by MaxSzlagor 2013-04-30T06:22:00

Really enjoyed this one. Personally I thought the audio was great without music, and was what made the game so effective. The parallax background added a lot, too. My only suggestion would be to have more positional sounds (e.g. passers-by) and positional sources for sounds like the crow calling. Great job, though!

Worm outbreak! by Magewalkr 2013-04-30T02:10:00

Pretty worms... but I can't seem to do anything with them. Sad times.

omph by tikilittle 2013-04-30T17:18:00

Wow, this is really abstract, I like it. I made it through a few puzzles but got stuck, it's hard to discern what the objective is in many cases, but I guess that's part of the game? I would suggest giving some kind of feedback (sound or visual) when the player makes progress toward solving a puzzle, and/or give the puzzles an explicit general theme, like "restore the symmetry." Good job though, nice first time entry!

ASDASH by VikingJonathan 2013-05-18T16:39:00

Not bad for 48 hours! Once I figured out that I needed to load my gun initially it was pretty fun. It would be nice if there was some clearer indication when you hit/kill enemies, and more polish in general obviously, but the basics are all there. The music fits well with the fast pace. Good job!

fightfightfight by bleatingheart 2013-04-30T02:17:00

Fan, freaking, tastic. This made me laugh out loud multiple times. It's short, simple, and wonderfully coherent and finished. Pretty much perfect.

Simplicity by fishbrain 2013-04-29T15:38:00

The very essence of simplicity. I enjoyed the little story, though, and replayed it to try out different paths. Was fun trying to infer the situation from the minimal descriptions. Good job!

Reach the Moon by Nanolotl 2013-04-30T15:23:00

"Gentlemen, it's going to take a lot of potatoes, and a lot of flowers, but we'll make it to the moon come hell or high water."

Great little game, cute and funny. Some parts were a little hard to figure out how to progress (particularly the initial planting potatoes) but not TOO hard. I don't know what an angus is, but I want one!

SeedLife by shawn42 2013-04-30T04:29:00

This game really suits my mood. The mysteries of the seeds keep me coming back for more. Gotta sprout 'em all. Great job!

Super Mandelbrot Explorer Mk3 Turbo Deluxe with Cheese by SeanAtr0n 2013-04-30T04:18:00

Not exactly a game, but it's definitely minimal! Fun way to explore the fractal. My only suggestions are to add a smoother way to zoom and pan around, and maybe to make some other color palettes. Nice job.

Triangulum by bompo 2013-04-30T23:24:00

Cool entry! The mechanics of combat don't seem very deep, but they work smoothly. The visual style is great and I think the abstract audio goes well with it. Adding a little more complexity and balance to the combat would make this truly shine. Nice job!

Line Game by elektron 2013-04-29T14:51:00

Reminds me a little of this entry: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=11637

This was pretty fun, and got challenging fast (I have a lot of trouble with the timing based ones). I spent quite a while on the title screen just drawing things with the line, heh. Good job!

Isocolor by Christopher Chamberlain 2013-04-30T15:44:00

Interesting concept, I could see this turning into a nice little puzzler. I thought the audio was particularly effective for the mood. Had a little bit of difficulty telling what level tiles are at, but that's always an issue with isometric games. Maybe add a way to rotate the level? Good job in any case!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Hole Town by dob 2021-04-28T04:40:56Z

It's got some interesting puzzle mechanics and it's well polished. I appreciate that you took time for tutorials and considered colorblind accessibility in your design! Honestly I found it a bit frustrating because the puzzle mechanics are complex and difficult to reason about. For example, having so many different sizes of rocks feels like a lot to keep track of and plan around. All that said, it's a perfect exploration for a game jam and your execution was spot on. Great job!

Soil Surfer by bentglasstube 2021-04-28T04:27:10Z

This might be the most innovative of the ~25 games I've played so far. I was expecting something more like classic snake, but the hex movement and terrain variation is actually quite novel and interesting! It's a little awkward in some ways - for example I have a hard time intuiting how the worm will move when moving into empty space. But I always appreciate seeing people try something new, and this also has solid graphics/audio/etc. to support that. Awesome job!

Inks by mahalis 2021-04-26T20:15:59Z

The inky visual effects are really beautiful. Pleasing and minimalistic. Well done!

Under the Stove by ruthiepee 2021-04-28T04:49:46Z

Cool to see people using Roblox for stuff like this! The game is weird and funny and very roblox-y. I'm not sure whether I got to the end or whether there was more I didn't find, but nice job!

Descent into Midnight Trench by kfischer-okarin 2021-04-26T15:17:17Z

Graphics are simple but I like them; it's a fun challenge to control the diver and harpoon. Reeling in the harpoon made me wish there were more things in the level to fish for. Good job!

Irrational Volumes by s1lv3r Dr4g0n Games 2021-04-26T17:35:57Z

It's a pretty good bullet hell for a game jam, but also spending time adding accessibility settings is extremely cool. As another commenter said, there seemed to be a weird game over condition? I really enjoyed it though; great job!

Through Dimensions by potatolain 2021-04-26T20:44:38Z

Cool game with a solid mechanic and a surprising number of levels and puzzles. It's always nice to see people developing for odd or retro platforms. Great job!

Age of Oil by oller125 2021-04-26T14:27:36Z

The game is surprisingly deep (hahah) with all the different actions and upgrades. I wish I could see on the map whether an oil well is producing or whether it's run out. Nice job though, it's a fun idle game and it feels like there's a lot of progression there!

Cave of Death by Fabian G 2021-04-26T18:27:35Z

The low poly environments and the assets you made all look really good, and there's a surprising amount of level design for a jam! I also like the multi purpose nature of the fire arrows and could see that as the basis for a much more involved game. Great job!

Well Darn by ick 2021-04-26T04:01:03Z

A real pleasure to watch, listen and chill out for a few minutes. Stylish minimalism.

Lost Core of the Underworld by wisedawn 2021-04-26T15:04:13Z

Always love a classic text adventure game! I appreciate how much time and detail you put into the writing. The combat was a little bit confusing - I wish I knew more specifically how critical attacks worked since they seem important. Great job overall!

Strange Platinum by Poorwill 2021-04-26T16:47:31Z

It's got an interesting concept and puzzle mechanics and it seems well done. Apart from keeping enough open connections, I wasn't sure how to strategize about the placement of pieces, but I did have fun losing a few rounds. Nice job!

Dig Dig Dig by Chirichirichiri 2021-04-26T17:05:28Z

This is great! It's well polished all around and satisfying to keep playing. It's not clear to me exactly what the rules are for when mining a non-ore tile moves the screen down or not, but other than that it was fun and straightforward and plays very smoothly. Well done!

Obelisk by caeonosphere 2021-04-30T16:06:32Z

There's a ton to appreciate here. It feels very well polished and has mechanical depth, I love the little indicators for enemy health and abilities, and everything plays very smoothly. My one big criticism is that it feels like there's a lot of unavoidable damage (because of enemies with larger HP pools, or obstacles generated in the only path to the exit) and no way to heal, so I felt like my tactical decisions weren't the deciding factor in my success or failure. Great job overall, though!

BLU by JGUR 2021-04-26T04:30:44Z

I really liked the way the submarine headlights revealed the colors of silhouetted objects. Also appreciate the polish that went into the menus and UI. Great job!

Trek Through Billy by dk5000p 2021-04-26T14:43:39Z

I didn't expect a jam game to have full voice acting! It's very silly and I enjoyed it a lot. Nice job!

DESCENT by Zephi_Sero 2021-04-26T04:51:28Z

I liked it! The game goes from punishingly hard to trivially easy very fast, but I think it's a good arc for a jam game. The music is simple but it's a bop.

There, Again by Honey Pony 2021-04-26T05:42:14Z

Very fun game, some of the levels are quite challenging (I made it as far as jumping onto rolling rocks before giving up). I think my favorite part is actually the graphical style, especially the screen wipe effects. Great job!

RK XK by NiKaDra 2021-04-26T20:26:43Z

This is fantastic. A good mix of tools so you're not just clicking blindly, the art is well done and consistently styled, and I especially appreciate the multiple layers with unique visual and musical themes. Great job!

Gone Diggin' by XeduR 2021-04-26T13:54:29Z

Looks and feels polished. I liked the way you chained the rooms of the mine together. My only criticism is that it was very difficult (at least for me) and I would have liked to play longer and get deeper. All in all it's very well done!

Space Dwarf Alchemist Go! by BlackOpsBen 2021-04-26T05:28:26Z

Very solid idle game, the ship graphics are great and it's fun to watch your ship get ridiculously long. The little voice lines add a lot!

Tetra Rogue by Ryan Harriman 2021-04-26T14:36:22Z

Link doesn't work for me either, unfortunately. It gets to a "loading your game for the first time" message but seems to be stuck there.

Aftermath by Peace Of Cake Games 2021-04-26T04:41:42Z

I like the creativity of the starting 'cut scene' visuals and leaving a blood trail as you walk was a nice touch. Good job!

A Musical Interlude by Kohonens 2021-04-26T15:12:17Z

This is a cool idea! It's a little bit confusing and awkward to control, but it's also fun to just bounce balls around and create chaos.

CubeMiner by Coolp 2021-04-26T17:30:06Z

Works pretty well! As other people have said, it would have been nice to have some feedback or effects to show that you're mining a tile, but hey you made a whole game in 2 days so I can't complain :)

Depth of Memory by feralpoodles 2021-04-26T04:10:55Z

The concept is interesting and the presentation is great, but I'm having trouble reliably picking up objects in the web version so unfortunately I wasn't able to get far enough to rate it.

Hammer It In! by audioBusting 2021-04-26T13:46:43Z

All the different background layers and scenes made me happy to spend 3 minutes repeatedly pressing the space bar. Great job!

Deeper and Deeper by Krampit_Max 2021-04-26T14:15:00Z

It's a nice little game and it definitely fits the theme! I'm not sure what "Instruments" means so maybe a little bit of explanation would be helpful, but it was fun to explore and bump into things and be eaten by fish. Good job!

So Below by metadept 2021-04-26T13:36:12Z

@feralpoodles I modeled some fairly large sections of walls, floors, etc. then assembled them in different ways as Unity prefabs. My first time making a level "palette" like that and I uhhh... learned a lot of lessons!

So Below by metadept 2021-04-26T13:37:37Z

@tengusheath Thanks for the feedback; I also definitely would have liked to add more gameplay and some atmospheric audio. Maybe in a post-compo version! In the meantime, I did reduced the mouse sensitivity as you suggested.

So Below by metadept 2021-05-11T15:57:34Z

@honey-pony I'm glad you enjoyed it so much, and thanks for the awesome and detailed feedback! Totally agree about need for more overall content volume/variety and especially the pieces that imply unreachable spaces. I think that the biggest missing feature to support the current exploration-focused experience would be adding content that only appears beyond a certain "depth" of exploration, providing a bit of interesting progression. I might revisit this project in the future and expand it to improve in those areas.

Deep Sleep - The Sandman by VeryGenuineCraze 2021-04-30T16:22:32Z

The art and audio are fantastic; I love the voiced sound effects for dogs and phones and things. Gameplay is basic but well executed and it plays smoothly. Good job!

Doodle Dig! by romich430 2021-04-26T14:39:10Z

Sounds like you took the right approach (keeping it simple) and if you had fun and learned stuff that's what's most important! As others have said, the link doesn't seem to work so I wasn't able to play it - did you remember to publish the itch page you created?

Doodle Dig! by romich430 2021-04-30T18:54:15Z

Finally got this working and was able to play it! Your latest archive is still missing a folder - you need the "MonoBleedingEdge" folder that Unity puts alongside the "Doodle Dig!_Data" folder. Fortunately this isn't project-specific so I was able to copy it from another Unity build.

The game is simple but totally playable! I appreciate that you took the time to make art, music, sound effects, and even a title screen. I don't think it looks bad at all for a jam game, either. Congratulations on finishing your first jam, and hope to see more of your work in the future!

Space Drill by FurGoose 2021-04-26T14:04:34Z

It's a fun little game and the mechanics work well! It wasn't immediately clear to me what the different kinds of objects meant, so it might have been helpful to have an even clearer indication of what to pick up and what to avoid, but I learned what they were pretty quickly. Great job for a first game jam!

Lucifer's doom by TescoOne 2021-04-26T14:35:27Z

I like the pixel art and the game is a good fit for the theme. It took me a while to figure out that enemies need two hits since there wasn't an indication when you hit them, it felt like my attacks weren't working. Once I figured that out it works well though; nice job!
