LD39 — Running out of Power

The King's Saviour by drtizzle 2017-08-01T01:36:40Z

I thought the player graphic and the environments looked really really good. I wasn't a huge fan of the 3d lighting in combination with the 2d sprites, I think it detracted from how good the sprites were. Fun bow mechanics.

Erebot by aevek 2017-08-02T04:56:19Z

Really enjoyed the art - the environment looks fantastic. I wish that it told you the basics before you could potentially die but once I learned you can just hold still to read it it's fine. The UI unfortunately detracts a bit from the quality of the other assets, but understandable for a 48 hour game.

I wish the camera were a little closer to the player character. It seems like I'm looking behind myself more than in front of myself.

Overall a nice gameplay mechanic and the hit detection seems precise for the most part but I had a few instances of not being sure why I died one time and lived another time - a closer camera would help in the narrower areas.

For me the desert rocks aesthetic really shines though so great job on the look.

P3tr by zulubo 2017-08-01T00:18:53Z

Really polished on all fronts for such a short time. Fun gameplay too. On my client the cursor was just a black box which was really hard to see in dark parts of the screen though. Not sure if it was bugged or if there just wasn't time to make a graphic. Normal mouse cursor would have been nicer. Great job though.

Wrong Slumber by ick 2017-08-01T01:11:54Z

Thanks for the feedback guys and particularly about the Mac and Linux builds. There is indeed audio. And I've run into that problem with Mac builds before. I'm not sure how to fix them, and the game was built on Windows and intended for Windows.

I will try to see what I can do about those other platform issues in future games.

Thanks guys!

Wrong Slumber by ick 2017-08-01T02:27:31Z

I can try a WebGL build and I can try the Mac Store Validation. Thanks.

What do you mean by higher aiming speeds? Did you adjust the sensitivity?

EDIT: I've added a WebGL version that seems to have some minor issues. Please play the Windows download if you can! WebGL should work fine to check out the game though.

Wrong Slumber by ick 2017-08-02T04:19:21Z

Thanks for the feedback.

Unfortunately there are some issues with the spawn system as I wasn't able to balance it great in the time allotted. There is actually one wave sort of mid-way into the game that is straight bugged - they all spawn right on top of each other instead of spread out across the play area - and I wasn't able to fix it in time either.

Thanks for playing!

Soulviver by Wabble 2017-08-01T00:28:03Z

Good humor and loved the Frump sprite. Kept getting stuck on the wall though.

Lifeforce Deathrun by GanbareGamesKyle 2017-08-01T00:23:48Z

Simple and fun. For some reason I got confused really easily, not a negative but difficult game!

Gymtastic by LittleLegend 2017-08-01T01:21:14Z

Nice humor and I love the punching animation and the enemies flying away when they die.

awesome game

NoThIng by Erkberg 2019-10-21T03:32:56Z

cool :)

Soundsearcher by nicross 2019-10-07T08:43:30Z

cool little game. I think it would be awesome if you had to "run away" from certain sounds, or run towards them, in order to win or lose.

RAT CHEESERS by ick 2024-04-16T03:13:45Z

@theyflower glad you got it sorted. I wonder what was causing the black screen... it has worked for me on both windows and mac. wonder if it an OS thing?

Hentoad by Nazorus 2024-04-16T02:43:03Z

Pretty fun! I liked how you had to combine the simple mechanics. Great visuals and character design!

HEXX by andrewkennedy 2024-04-16T00:02:15Z

Fantastic presentation and a great game with a very approachable concept yet it is still difficult! It rules!

The Blinding of Isaac by Cymusi 2024-04-16T02:47:04Z

The art is fantastic and the searchlight mechanic is very cool!

Puck Off by Matthew Roelle 2018-04-23T02:48:24Z

i love this one. its a really cool idea and i could see some interesting gameplay with bouncing your player off the wall and stuff - i almost hit the puck twice by having the player bounce off the puck, then off the wall, and back towards the puck in one stroke.

its pretty easy that you can just click exactly where you want to send your character - the distance display in a small radius around your selected player doesnt even matter because you can see your mouse cursor - if you understand how to aim pool or billiards shots you can just click exactly in the right spot every time.

really cool game though

big fiver on the mood my guy

Arachnovoid by ick 2018-04-23T20:51:20Z

@benbusby that's a great solution, wish i had thought of it! i spent a few hours trying to make a smart camera system and couldn't come up with anything effective.

Erglow by benbusby 2018-04-23T04:03:51Z

the webGL version runs way too fast for me - everything in the game is sped up drastically.

fun game and really good music. the length was good considering the multiple endings and i replayed it multiple times to get the best one

Devil's Doll by metamorphling 2018-04-23T04:21:55Z

really hard but i think its fun to keep retrying despite its difficulty. i like the stripe world and some of the story descriptions are funny. the writing needs a little editing though

Room Runner Extreme Deluxe! by ORECROS 2018-04-23T02:34:16Z

the idea is actually pretty cool. warioware/infinite runner.

the game gave me a math question and none of the doors were the right answer so i just died. not sure if there was a joke or trick answer i missed but it felt like it was a randomly generated question that didnt generate a correct answer.

critical thoughts: you shouldn't lose health in the first room where it explains the controls and how to tweak the settings

movement feels weird. partially because it feels like i'm moving on a fixedupdate which runs at a slower rate than the game itself, so everything kind of skips around. you could decrease the physics timestep to make the physics updates happen more often or figure out a way to have movement be in update. good movement however is probably hard to make in 48 hours

Room Runner Extreme Deluxe! by ORECROS 2018-04-25T09:04:30Z

@ORECROS I've done the same thing in unity - its a really obvious disconnect between smooth movement of the camera and jerkiness of player movement, because the game runs at a much higher framerate than the physics timestep - by default the timestep is .02 i believe - which means the fixed updates happen at 50 frames per second, compared to the 200+ of the game itself. What I've done on simple games is just decrease the timestep so the fixed updates happen more frequently, but I haven't done anything of significant enough scale to have that adversely affect game performance which it surely will at some point.

Adopt A Cat by goatrope 2018-04-24T01:14:07Z

i now own 7 cats and im a typing master

Sound Space by GoodKenneth 2018-04-24T00:42:09Z

i like the idea and presentation but it's hard to really move enough to hit all the notes if you can only move on the offbeat. maybe you could have had eighth note high hats going the whole time that you could move to the beat of.
