LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

An Adventure within a Deep Forest by BoltKey 2018-12-03T04:29:10Z

Interesting idea! The perspective shift feature changes way too fast for it to be remotely useful, so I never really used that, and the audio was really harsh so I had to mute it. Putting some more time into refining the audio and sound fx would be really worthwhile, especially with a game where almost everything else is really well done. Ultimately I got stuck and gave up, but enjoyed it nonetheless.

Sacrificial Showdown by benbusby 2018-12-03T04:15:28Z

@funkyjive thanks for playing!

Sacrificial Showdown by benbusby 2018-12-03T05:10:54Z

@callavicka ooo yeah that would've been a good idea. I had a bunch of different ideas rolling around in my head regarding what I wanted to do to expand on the game mechanics, but just didn't really have the time. I wasted a lot of time debugging problems with the synchronization of music + user interaction, and I don't feel like the end result really justifies the time I spent on it. In any case, thanks for playing!

Gift of Life by Pez 2018-12-05T02:40:33Z

Nice job! I really liked the art and the lighting, both were really well done, and the idea was pretty clever. I felt like the PC controls were a little awkward, but luckily I had a controller lying around that I could use. Overall though I liked it!

Brick Climb by Funkyjive 2018-12-03T04:22:18Z

Great job, I actually ended up playing this one for a while. I didn't really use more than one robot at any point though, so maybe tweaking the mechanics to make the game punish you for losing the other robots would be good so that the player is encouraged to try to keep them all around (although I understand that sort of defeats the point of the whole sacrifice theme). Just something to think about I suppose. Nice job overall though!

Chaos Shelter by Sockyman 2018-12-05T02:57:18Z

I didn't survive too long, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit. I like survival games like this, but I wish there had been music and sound effects as well -- it felt a little empty without those. Overall nicely done though!

A Key Sacrifice by CalLavicka 2018-12-03T05:17:09Z

This was great, I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I would've liked some sort of feedback on enemy ship health or something so that it felt a bit more rewarding to shoot them -- as it was I never knew how close I was to breaking up a cluster of enemy ships so I would usually just give up on them. Some more frequent power ups or something would help offset the mental gymnastics of remapping my keys so frequently too. Really enjoyed it though, great job!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

The Magical Caster Card Gun by Fanttum 2018-04-23T14:58:33Z

Awesome game! I really liked the concept a lot and actually had a lot of fun playing it. Although the platforming at the end of Level 5 is really difficult to get just right, especially with the high sensitivity. Just a minor gripe though, overall I think it was really well executed.

Perpetual Quest by Mr_Field 2018-04-24T22:24:29Z

I like it! I mean, I suck at it, but I like it! I'll keep at it and try to get better though, cause I think it's a great idea and is really well done. Both the music and graphics are really awesome. Excellent work you guys!

Zap Herder by foolmoron 2018-04-24T22:12:25Z

The visuals and sound effects in this are fantastic. If this were a mobile game, I'd buy it in an instant. Gets really fun when you try to go as fast as possible. The highest I'm able to get is about 155K. Really nice job with this!

Jeff From Accounting by Almax 2018-04-27T00:56:03Z

I can't really say anything that everyone else hasn't said already, but this was awesome. I've always wanted a game where I can show off my fast typing ability but still have something beyond just typing, and this definitely did it. The sound design in particular was really satisfying, and was what really brought it to the next level for me. The gameplay was fantastic, don't get me wrong, but there was something immensely satisfying about the shooting sound effects. Really great job with this you guys.

PE@CE by bwalter 2018-04-23T02:15:43Z

I thought this was great, really enjoyed the gameplay and the graphics. Nicely done.

C://TEXTRIS.EXE by Ryan Gannon King 2018-04-24T20:31:19Z

This is definitely one of my favorite interpretations of the theme so far. The music and visuals were fantastic, I'm a big fan of the old school terminal look. I did catch myself reading the story parts more and ignoring the pieces falling, which lead to me having to start over a few times, but I didn't really mind. Really nice work overall, great job to all involved.

Type it like Schumacher! by Linky439 2018-04-24T17:11:39Z

This is such a good idea! The music and gameplay were both really great. If I had any feedback, it'd be that I had to type really slowly for the game to recognize my input, which was a little annoying. I also got stuck at level 2 after I finished level 1 (looks like someone else had that problem too). Otherwise I really enjoyed the style and execution of this.

Harvest Doom by Fiote 2018-04-24T22:35:12Z

I'm usually not a fan of tower defense games, but this combination of tower defense and farming (plus the horror elements, which are automatic points with me) is actually something that I like a lot. I agree with one of the other commenters that it'd be nice if the requests stayed visible after approaching the door. I had to mess around with that to get it to stay visible, since I kept walking right up to the door. Otherwise I really enjoyed it a lot and would really like to see a full featured version of this one day.

Flappy Typing by Frodewin 2018-04-23T15:53:48Z

Wow, I really enjoy this game a lot. It almost has a sort of Bennett Foddy-ish feel in my opinion (which is a good thing), and I really liked the old school look and sound. Although I will say that I wish there were new songs each time the levels looped and got faster. Seems like that would be a good way to build on the soundtrack. I also had no clue who mxyzptlk was until this, but that was fun to type. Overall though I thought this was awesome, great combo of genres, great retro visuals and gameplay, and excellent execution.

Idle Shooter by NicMagnier 2018-04-27T18:07:16Z

This was super satisfying to play. The gameplay is really solid and feels addicting right from the beginning with upgrading how many coins you can get. The hitboxes on the skulls though felt a little small compared to their sprites though, I could usually shoot straight through the top of their head or the bottom of their head. Only shots directly at the middle of the skulls were counted, although it didn't seem to be as big of a problem on the larger slower skulls. If I had any other feedback, it'd be to taper off the high end frequencies for the coin sound, because after I upgraded the amount of money a few times and was getting tons of coins constantly, it was a lot of really high pitched noise all at once. Overall though I actually liked it a lot. Nice job!!

Platform Hero by Rombus 2018-04-24T20:41:32Z

Nice!!! This is actually one of the best pico-8 games I think I've played in a long time. I loved the idea of rhythm based combat, and it was done really well. I'd love to see a longer version of this game one day, it's definitely got potential to be a really great full length game. Nice job!

Obaké by mrspeaker 2018-04-23T16:17:33Z

This is so fun! I love the combination of genres, and I've never seen a game that combines 3d and 2d (the worst dimension) like this. I love multitasking games like this and you executed it really well. I also had never heard of Obaké before, so I learned something new today. Nicely done!

Speed Dating by kbjwes77 2018-04-23T15:13:29Z

The voices were hilarious, especially the frog's. I also appreciated the attention to detail with having the date shake around whenever I would run into something (which I did a lot). Really fun overall though, great job.

RPG Shop by Lawrence 2018-04-23T02:57:52Z

I really liked this, but I feel like I was getting robbed like every other time  still fun though.

Arachnovoid by ick 2018-04-23T14:34:44Z

This was so good! I really liked the sound design and atmosphere a lot. I'm a fan of anything "infinite void" related so I was sorta biased going into it. My only complaint is that there probably should've been some raycasting between camera and spider to make platforms transparent if you're trying to shoot a web directly up while on a platform. Really liked it a lot though, great job.

Definition of a Ghuest by Sand-Gardeners 2018-04-29T22:51:27Z

I really like this interpretation of the theme, that's really creative. I definitely felt uneasy playing it, which is what I like in most of the games I play. The wireframe part of the game was really creepy. Well done to all involved!

Erglow by benbusby 2018-04-23T14:08:13Z

Forgot to add a link to my source code (it's my first ld), but here it is if anyone is interested (link removed)

Erglow by benbusby 2018-04-27T17:48:44Z

@diego-escalante thank you so much for playing! Would you mind telling me the browser and/or browser version you're using? I tested the web build on chrome/firefox/safari and they all seemed to be running at normal speed.

Erglow by benbusby 2018-04-29T22:04:26Z

@diego-escalante thanks for the info! I didn't think you were nitpicking, just wanted to make sure it wasn't something weird on my end. I appreciate it!

The Lake Of Horrors by WongKongPhooey 2018-04-24T00:07:53Z

255! I really enjoyed it. I never seemed to get bothered by the piranhas though, maybe I just got lucky? And I agree with some others that music would've been a nice addition. Didn't really bother me too much though. Nice job!

If Potato Meets Flag Then by joqlepecheur 2018-04-27T00:40:34Z

This is by far one of my favorite games from the jam so far. The puzzles are so great, and I love the retro graphics/sound effects and music. The level design in the game is what really stood out to me the most, it's a really creative idea for a game and the level design makes it fun to figure out how to get to the end. I'd love to see a full version of this. Great job, 5 stars from me!

Typewriter Dungeon by Jaime Paz Lopes 2018-04-23T15:23:26Z

I love typing games, and this one was great. My only suggestion is that I think the words should enforce accuracy (i.e. reset if a wrong letter is typed) and enforce that the letters are in the right order. Otherwise I really liked it, nicely done.

Life Is Nuclear by Valden 2018-04-23T23:43:18Z

0/10 not enough hurricanes...in all seriousness though, this was great. The rewind mechanic was really nice and the gameplay and music were both great. I wish it were a bit more difficult, but I suppose even if it were I think I'd probably just rewind every time I screwed up. Really nice overall though!

Would you marry me ? by Toryf 2018-04-24T17:04:22Z

Great music and I liked the art style, but I wish it were a bit more expanded. You already have a lot you could build upon if you wanted to. Still like it though!

Escape from... something by Oxygenium 2018-04-26T23:02:02Z

This was a lot of fun! I really liked having to learn the enemy's movement patterns and everything in order to get through a level. The third level took me a while to get. If I had any feedback, it'd be that maybe the player shouldn't spawn so close to the edge of the level, like on level 2. I kept falling off the edge right after respawning after the guy would catch me, so I'd start dying multiple times. I really liked this game though, great job and I'd like to see more of this!

Zlornko Teaches Typing by katie 2018-04-23T03:31:29Z

This is so awesome...I have a feeling that Zlornko is really just Steve Brule in disguise though, those words are straight out of Check It Out! haha. Really liked the music too. Usually by word 4 or 5 though it seems like it's impossibly hard.

Pinhuman by sleazywizard 2018-04-27T00:10:32Z

Nice! I think I have the high score now. Not sure how often that's updated though. Anyways, really funny game. Some collisions were a little iffy, but that's obviously forgivable for the time frame you guys were working on. Great job!

The Mad Bulleteer by Diego Escalante 2018-04-27T17:55:10Z

The difficulty progression on this was perfect. I'm not awesome at multitasking so I didn't do too well, but it was still lots of fun. Nicely done!

Painting the Black by Abraxas Interactive 2018-04-23T03:10:15Z

I love the aesthetic and the gameplay a ton. I agree that some music and sounds would be nice, but I still enjoyed it regardless. Took me forever to get even one point, but I got the hang of it eventually haha.
