pretty good. worked wonders with the theme. the biggest drawback is the lack of ANY sound. programmer sounds would be preferrable to none when reaction time is so important. also the controls feel a bit wonky, might have done more with just a simple breakout paddle design with vertical and horizontal movement. like the visuals a lot and it runs well

Thanks! I started late (around noon today) so I only had about 9 hours, I'll probably add some bad music and sounds post-jam.

lavwa 2018-04-23 02:47

Woah ! That's impressive. The design/aesthetic is absolutely amazing and innovative. Mixing pong/breakout & baseball is quite original !

cryovr 2018-04-23 02:58

I like it!, in my opinion the controls felt very smooth, i got used to the mechanic really fast!

benbusby 2018-04-23 03:10

I love the aesthetic and the gameplay a ton. I agree that some music and sounds would be nice, but I still enjoyed it regardless. Took me forever to get even one point, but I got the hang of it eventually haha.

pixels-everywhere 2018-04-23 03:25

I like the atmoshpere!

abraxas-interactive 2018-04-23 03:31

Thank you guys! I'm glad you like the game! My record so far is 6 points, lol.

vilix64 2018-04-23 04:56

Awesome visuals! Took me a while to figure out the mechanics, but overall great!

ismael-rodriguez 2018-04-23 05:52

I like the idea, and the visuals... I wish there was sound, and more intuitive controls, maybe mouse support, and maybe show the rules/controls if the player scores 0 points. Overall, pretty good for 9 hrs!

jani-nykanen 2018-04-23 10:11

The game is a little hard (not a bad thing), it took me a while to figure out how to get points. Nevertheless, I liked it. Good job!

xcvzxc 2018-04-23 10:13

At first it was really hard for me to understand what is actually going on xD but then i had a lot of fun playing. It should really have some sounds :/

iluvatar 2018-04-23 10:25

Interesting concept and something I've never seen before. Love the execution and the flow.

noxbuds 2018-04-23 13:21

Interesting idea. Though the controls are a bit difficult to get right, especially having to hold in space first before releasing it and hitting the ball. As above, a lack of sound is a bit of a shame, but it looks pretty cool.

devinwilson 2018-04-24 00:34

I like the idea of an abstracted Slugfest machine! With more time, I think you'd have something really cool on your hands.

fashionbatman 2018-04-24 00:51

This is super cool. It took some time to get used to swinging the bat, but I eventually did. All this game is missing is sound. Great job!

mathiouza 2018-04-24 16:48

Really cool, beautiful and polished game, but this is too hard, some balls come too quickly, and moreover, we do not have any time for resting ^^ If you rebalanced the difficulty, you might have soimething really cool :)

Keep coding :)

diego-escalante 2018-04-30 04:20

I like the game idea! These kinds of abstract games can be very interesting and fun to play. You're right, its actually a difficult game. Those fast balls are treacherous. Felt good accomplishment after even getting just 1 point after so many tries. Great job!

macdoom 2018-05-01 23:22

Nice aesthetics! Graphical/audio combination created a very special atmosphere. Interesting combination of genres, well thought there! Congratulations!

Two quick notes about your distribution: - Not sure if you're aware; I think itch.io set your downloads to ask for a $2 payment. You can skip past it, but I don't know if you want that there. - You have a post-LD version, but there's no description of what changes you made. If it's just bugfixes I'll tend to play a post-LD game, but I'll avoid it if there's new features for the sake of fair ratings.

The game itself is a really good idea, and it has a fair bit of graphical and controls polish. It is fiendishly difficult, and maybe a bit too punishing. My highest score at time of writing is 3, but most games ended with 0, because I have to hit 4 balls in a row perfectly just to score. In terms of controls, I think I know what you were trying to emulate with mapping hit to release spacebar. I would have preferred something like LMB or Z because my spacebar isn't particularly responsive on the release, but that's a personal gripe. A bigger concern is that there seems to be no way to invert the left-right controls, and my brain is convinced you have them backwards.

I might come back to this and try to get a higher score.

I don't know why my comment got posted twice. Sorry about that.

abraxas-interactive 2018-05-06 15:09

Thanks for all the great feedback!

Anonymous - I changed it on ITCH.IO so that it doesn't allow for donations. The post-jam version adds music and sound effects and makes some changes to gameplay. There is a block of text above the download links that outlines some of the changes - but yeah definitely play the JAM version for voting purposes.

In the next update I'll make it so you can invert and re-map the controls!

Nice entry! Starts off a bit too quick imo, but neat idea once you get the hang of it.

I think the "red gloves" need to be a bit smarter though, especially once you start getting some points. I found that the best strategy was to aim at a corner and barely ever change the angle. Even occasionally hitting one wasn't that much of a setback; filling the bases again is tedious, but getting a strike is a much worse penalty.

I took a quick look at the post-jam version btw, and the addition of sound/music definitely helped a lot.

abraxas-interactive 2018-05-13 23:42

Thanks Sean! I agree, the gloves could be expanded upon to be more varied and have some sort of AI, and maybe there should be a stronger penalty for hitting one.
