Took me a while to get a hang of it, but it was pretty fun eventually. Good job!
Took a bit to fully understand what was going on, looked cool, was confused what the open rooms were. Had fun though!
"Congratulations! You are as deep as possible"! I had fun making my ways towards these potential exit while using as much green tile (and avoid red ones) as possible. Some miners died, but we went through it! :v: Thanks for the game! Congratulations
I like the approach of only manage where the miners go and hope for the best. I didn't find too much impact from my actions and maybe the first level should only have one "event square" (the exit) instead of suddenly breaking into an enemy base. The mechanics of this game much have taken plenty of time and I wish some time would have been put into sound (or maybe it didn't work for me). Impressive game!
Simple concept and overall good execution. I could see this being a very successful game with the appropriate polish applied. - Visuals definitely need improvement. (the combat animations especially). - The path planning needs to be reworked; sometimes the units get stuck behind walls. - Better clarity on what each tile will provide when you place it. - Means of spending the currency would be nice (unit perks, new tile types, bonus effects, trade tile). Very clever concept that I'd love to see built out!
Very cool game in 48 hours. Puzzle made me think, and i didn't really catch the drift of the different color miners. But that's probably on me! Thanks for the game! I got the 157 ore I think?
It's got an interesting concept and puzzle mechanics and it seems well done. Apart from keeping enough open connections, I wasn't sure how to strategize about the placement of pieces, but I did have fun losing a few rounds. Nice job!
Took me a while to understand, but it's surprisingly fun and addictive once you get into it! You created a simple idea and expanded on it beautifully.
Always cool to see games you can play in the browser! I've also had issues with path finding where the units would go somewhere unrelated to the new tile and get stuck there, but path finding is always tricky ^^
This is pretty fun as-is, but I see a lot of potential. The only thing I feel that is sorely missing are simple sound effects. A simple beep when placing cards or a boop when a miner dies would go a long ways. The execution was really smooth and figuring out how to play was very intuitive. I think that with just a _little_ extra time this game could be really great!
Great game with interesting mechanics.
The game is interesting and addicting. There are times when you lose on the first move because it gives you exclusively pieces with enemies and You can scum your score higher by continuing to place pieces instead of going to the next level, since the next level button will override all game over conditions from what I've seen.
I was pretty entertained and I keept playing for 5 rounds. I card mechanic to build your parth is brilliant! I would say that has it is is a perfect base that just needs to expand with more crunchy sounds and player feedback! Please keep working on it.
This would have benefitted from a tutorial, but once I figured it out, the gameplay was super fun and addictive! I would absolutely spend money on a more polished version of this, great concept.
@gettingrekt Yeah the three end random end tiles is a little but much right from the start. Yeah sound would make it so much better! Poor time management forced me to cut it out completely.
@the-neon-shark Thank you for the feedback! Yeah in the end I realized as well that everything was so small and incomprehensible visually :D I used Unity pathfinding to save time and boy do those nav agents get confused at times.
@doommustard Yeah the card generation can be really unfair at times :D. That's a good catch with the next level button. I realized that it was exploitable, but not to that extent.
Thank you everyone for the great feedback and for giving me confidence to maybe make this into a full game in the future!
It wasn't super clear what was going on, but it was fun to figure out how it worked, so I think that worked as half the charm.
Love the design of the miners and enemies! Would have been so cool to see the whole game in that style.
Nice work!
Seems like nice game, but the cards seem to be dropping too randomly. I played few times, and sometimes i had hard time getting cards with workers, whlie almost all of them spawned nothing or enemies. It would be nice to balance this a bit
Interesting use of tiles to create a path for the cute looking miners. Took me one playthrough to really get what's going on but after that playing was quite simple. If you use the end (or cul-de-sac) tiles carelessly it's easy to run out of options and you need to reload the page. Perhaps this is intended and if so a reload button would make the experience more enjoyable. Definitely the graphics are not supporting the good gameplay, the enemy and ore icons are hidden in the tiles because they are so small. Again, after I knew what was going on I understood the meaning of these small icons, but they didn't make starting the game easier. The game ends up being pretty challenging and I couldn't get to all of the marked places. Altho quite literal interpretation of the theme, having the digging happen on a flat surface instead on just vertically down is refreshing. Nevertheless enjoyed the game and found the tile placement mechanic interesting!
@dpmzi @matif100 @tatu-heinamaki Thank you for the great feedback! Honestly this makes Ludum Dare all the more worthwile participating in.
Like many others, it took me a bit to understand what is happening in the game (probably like 1-2 playthrough). A tutorial would help a lot, or even just some kind of legend to tell us what each card does.
Some dungeon audio would also be a good addition to the game and the mood. I also encountered a bug where I had no more cards but it didn't end? So, I had to refresh/restart the game in order to play again.
Overall, great game, graphics are fine, very innovative with the puzzle pieces!
Like the other a tutorial or text write up would have been great, but overall a fun little game. Great work!
Cool game. I like that tile placing mechanic combined with entities you do not directly control. The biggest thing I would like to see if visual feedback and information on what different things do / are doing. Ore collection and "combat" was unclear to me and things just seemed to float around and be ok. What is the in game reason for needing ore? or saving the blue things?
I really like the concept of this, it reminds me of an old game called Pipe Dream. Sometimes all my miners died for no apparent reason but it was no big deal because I just played again.
Pretty good game considering you made this for compo. Took me a while to figure out how to proceed. Tutorial levels are definitely must, visual also needs improvement since it was hard for me to figure out which pipes leads to which direction. I ran out of cards on one level and none cards fit any pipes on level 3 so definitely needs a fix for it. It was fun when it worked.
I like the idea with where you build something using premade pieces, but I don't think in the current form the game have much actually effects from your choices. You say it is important to gather as much ores as possible, it's not really clear why or what it is for; just score? I think it could have been neat to have more interactions with the preput pieces, that way the player would have to make choices about what to peruse.
Nice mechanic, the tiles are very similar to a card game sabotour. I had some errors with path finding in longer tunnels but other than that very nice!
