LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Well, that sounds fun! by Jani Nykanen 2021-04-26T21:20:37Z

This. Is. Gorgeous!

The music does a good job turning something that at first glance seems to be cute into something very ominous.

The flap/pound mechanics makes it stand out from your average fall-and-avoid-stuff game. Well done!

Hextraordinary Hexplorers by Aggrathon 2021-05-16T14:07:42Z

Impressive how alive the world feels considering the simple graphics and menu-based interactions. Cool that there were different ways to hunt and pay off bandits, and how it pushes the player to balance their resources. Nice entry!

Space Trench Miner by notime4games 2021-05-16T17:29:43Z

The game looks great. The menu has a cool theme and the tileset is really nice. Love the hook that comes down and gets you when you abort the mining mission.

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but the mining for me was very slow. I think it could have benefited from being much faster. Maybe even by a factor of ten.

Deeper in color by sparked99 2021-05-02T10:02:47Z

Cool with a boss at the end, made it feel like a complete experience! The slowdown mechanic is very cool. I liked your interpretation of the theme. Nice shaking effects, too.

I did find the game fairly easy to cheese, by standing still and keep attacking all over. Would have been nice with something that threw me off, or maybe a power-up that motivated me to move out of my safe corner.

Anyhow, nice job!

Nail It Deep! by one-seed-fruit 2021-05-04T18:07:12Z

Fun and creative! Not really buying the hammering sound effect, and it would have been nice to see some more polished graphics. Considering the short amount of time you had: very impressive!

Super Drill Boy by rakart 2021-04-26T20:34:52Z

Nice work on making this an enjoyable experience! The difficulty of the last two levels really makes it feel complete.

Fitting music, and dare I say, stunning visuals.

You should be proud of what you've accomplished!

Deeper Into Technical Problems by thesambassador 2021-04-26T19:43:14Z

Very easy to get into, and the music's pumpin' good!

I like that shooting propels you upwards, but I think the experience could be smoother if it wasn't that much.

Well done!

Fallen Shovel by silkworm_sweatshop 2021-04-27T21:23:53Z

I'm having a hard time coming up with anything but praise for this piece: the music, the clever way of telegraphing level quirks with level names, the tutorial, the consistent theme. The difficulty level is a bit wobbly at times, I found some of the earlier levels to be harder than the last levels. But I mean, what a game!

Fallen Shovel by silkworm_sweatshop 2021-05-01T23:18:17Z

@silkworm-sweatshop Oh, that looks exciting! Your wish(list) has been granted!

Under the Stove by ruthiepee 2021-05-18T01:18:30Z

Loved the playfulness of this! Felt like a story I could have made up in my mind when playing on my own as a child, save for the occasional nightmare fuel. Also, fun choice of engine. (My nephew is going to be so proud of me when he hears that I have tried Roblox!)

Now, I think I'll give my buddy a call.

Descentris by PhilStrahl 2021-04-26T20:13:19Z

Very cool! Really impressed with the creativity of the mechanics. Music and sound were very fitting.

The visuals got a bit too low contrast at some points, and it feels a bit jumpy when the screen moves down.

Really feels like you have something here, fantastic work!

Dream of the Glowing Umbrella by ristoretto 2021-04-26T20:47:33Z

I liked the art style, and the ambient music was a great fit for the moonlit feel of the game.

The goal of the game is a bit unclear to me. There's definitely some enjoyment in exploring what the random generator will throw at me, and the part of falling into other maps is pretty cool too, but I wish there was a more obvious mission.

Fishing Trouble by jefvel 2021-04-27T19:53:51Z

Holy smokes, this was fantastic! I'm afraid I can't give you more than 5 on humor, though.

The polish on this one is though the roof. Thanks for giving me a nice time and a few good laughs! Now, I'm off to enjoy the rest of this day in debtfreeness!

Pagemage by OrbitalBlueprint 2021-05-01T11:38:21Z

The book theme is such a cool approach to the theme! Love how words and letters are the power ups. There's some polish in here that really makes things pop: the pitch levels when shooting for instance.

Good BGM and nice, consistent, graphics. Sweet game!

At Core Depth by garatas 2021-05-02T10:24:02Z

Neat! It was fun to dig deeper while fighting off the enemies. The way I would chip off more and more off of the planet was satisfying!

There's also some unexpected polish in here—like when I destroy the entire surface, no enemies spawn. Fun game to experiment with!

small earth

(I just had to see how far I could go.)

Would have been cool to see some other enemies, maybe some space rocks passing by, threatening to hit you. Anyways, good work on this one!

Strange Platinum by Poorwill 2021-04-27T19:07:08Z

It wasn't super clear what was going on, but it was fun to figure out how it worked, so I think that worked as half the charm.

Love the design of the miners and enemies! Would have been so cool to see the whole game in that style.

Nice work!

Stairway to Silence by Talops 2021-05-16T12:47:36Z

Lots of creative mechanics here! Being able to destroy projectiles was exciting. The limited ammo for the powerful railgun really added to the feeling of being alone in a deadly situation, along with the moody visuals. Well done on making a great entry!

Miner Rescue by Vasco Freitas 2021-04-27T19:17:46Z

Very nice touch that you don't take damage if you land smoothly Like a few others I too found the backwards thrust a bit hard to comprehend.

Feels like you've balanced things pretty well during your 48 hours. You have good music, sound, graphics, controls, and a nice difficulty curve going on. Good job!

Asteroid Disaster by XCVZXC 2021-04-26T18:06:55Z

An absolute blast to play! High tempo, and a very high concentration of fun!

Sincerely yours, Destroyer of Earth

Run Miner by henriquecanella 2021-04-26T18:18:23Z

Fun game! Effective level design. The tightness of the controls stood out to me, and I really think you nailed the graphical style. The sound effects were really nice, but the background music could have used a final touch.

All in all: a nice experience!

Chthonic Brilliance by cassowary 2021-04-26T20:26:34Z

Beautiful animation and creative puzzles! The way I often failed puzzles first and had to reset, made it feel really rewarding when I sat back and thought out my moves on beforehand. Really impressed with how complete the game feels, so much great polish in there!

Deeper by robinfaury 2021-04-29T20:06:11Z

The potions and movement mechanics are fun ideas! I found the game hard to play on actual hardware because of the low contrast graphics, even in a well lit room. Smooth animation, though! Good job, especially considering the platform you developed for!

DEEPER by eboatwright 2021-04-26T20:56:34Z

Very effective graphics, animations and sounds effects! I think the tempo was a bit higher than I could comfortably manage, but that's definitely a tricky adjustment, it feels like being fast is a big part of this game's personality. Anyhow: good job!

Dungeon : Developer's Away by efeckk2 2021-05-02T09:43:44Z

I like the art direction. The low contrast makes things a bit hard to make out, though.

Couldn't make it down the second stairs. I think I need to get enough kills to go down, but the lack of feedback when hitting makes it hard to know what I'm doing right when fighting enemies.

I understand you were under an extremely tight deadline, so I would definitely consider this a success!

Low Pipe by SpaceGuinea Productions 2021-05-01T11:26:42Z

Pretty fun! The audio complemented the graphics well. Lots of particle fun with the blood, though I would have preferred some nice defaults instead of having to choose the settings myself. Anyhow, good work on this one!

DEEPORB by Taft Punk 2021-05-16T14:32:34Z

Not sure why the programming concept is here—I didn't get too far, but all the stuff I got through could have just been direct input instead of requiring setting up instructions. The rules of the currents are unclear to me. It seems they push you in a direction once per instruction, but it doesn't seem to work if you wait.

Nice graphical theme, and fun that there's music, too.

Abyss of Heart by ElSombrero 2021-04-26T20:03:32Z

Cool idea of having the messages double as "how to play" and uplifting messages.

I think the game would have benefited from having checkpoints between challenges.

Nicely done!

Hammer Dive by Clamshell64 2021-05-09T13:03:11Z

Love the art! Reminds me of some older Kirby stuff and Yoshi's Island. I wasn't sure if the background art affected the gameplay or not, but it looks good! I got the hang of it after a few tries. Got to 55m :) Wasn't sure why I missed the nail sometimes, maybe some more leeway would have helped, but there's also the risk that it would make it too easy.

Nice work!

Vinewell by dpmzi 2021-04-26T00:38:41Z

@redspine I just added a Windows release

Users of other operating systems will have to download the engine.

IntoDreams by SlenderTNT 2021-04-27T18:51:03Z

Nice bite sized gaming experience!

I liked that you went all in on the "home made" assets—the voiced sound effects worked well with that.

Something I would have loved to see would be that the camera would find a sweet spot between following the player and the cursor. I think it would have made the game easier to orient.

Congratulations on making a nice game!

The deepest curse by Bobafett89 2021-04-29T19:18:27Z

There's some neat level design in here, and lots of content! Impressive how you made so many different (and challenging!) puzzles using so few different kind of blocks.

Had some issues figuring out how to use the items I got. Text rendering didn't work for me, so I might have lost out on some good hints, though.

Nice job, this game is definitely more than meets the eye!

B.R.E.A.K - Bad Robot Enjoys Attacking Krew! by pxlshk 2021-05-04T18:58:15Z

Cool stuff, felt polished! Nice animations, lovely sound effects. The camera panning to show what's opened up was rad. Not sure if I was supposed to punch the crew, or if that was just for fun? Anyways, great work!

Digger by Emil Kosz 2021-04-30T22:25:22Z

Enjoyable! I haven't played Motherlode, but I guess I'll have to check it out now :)

I was a bit thrown off by the difficulty changes. I was thinking it was smooth sailing as I kept buying a lot of stuff and still having money over, but then I reached the bottom (?) and suddenly it seems I was underpowered.

Beautiful game, both graphics and audio!
