Cool idea. Pretty fun to play! But what's "Position limit reached"?
Blew my mind. Wow!! TBH, this game is fucking outstanding.
Glory to Kasprzak!!! Found myself playing longer than intended. Fun!
It's fun and cute, but it's too hard for me! It gets really hard when those things are running around and bumping me around.
@gassasin Haha thanks, I think the game is too hard too!
@eli-delventhal Thank you!! An egg follows you if you touch it, but it stops following if a chick or a chicken touches the egg while it is following you.
@galan :D Actually I was thinking of more punishments, like a genie comes out and attacks you because he isn't getting his egg ASAP. Or maybe he makes all the eggs hatch immediately. Or turn all the chicks available into chickens.
What if YOU are the genie? And you are collecting the eggs to feed your hungry genie family of five? And your genie wife/husband and kids would starve if you don't get the eggs to them in the lamp in time.
@chronosv2 Thank you! I thought of making it into some kind of RTS.
My idea so far:
You start of with one egg. You are provided with an initial number of worms. The egg hatches after clicking on it enough times, then you feed the worms to the chick. The chick grows into a chicken, and you have your first "building".
Feeding the chicken enough number of worms, it will lay an egg. As the next chick hatches, that chick becomes the leader of your army, the "magnet" which the other chicks will be attracted to. You move this "magnet" around with the keyboard or game controller as it leads a group of chicks, it is your main player.
Then on to the 3rd chick, 4th chick and so on. For each chick you can choose to let it 1. Be the leader of the army, reassigning the "magnet". 2. Or assign it to find worms, the primary resource of the game. 3. Or if you have enough worms, feed the chick enough worms to turn it into a chicken to lay more eggs to produce chicks faster. 4. Or by default, it is assigned to be a "foot soldier" chick, which gets attracted to the army leader, the "magnet".
Only one "magnet" can exist at a time on each side. If a chick is tasked with gathering worms, a "rally point" can be set from the chick to bring the gathered worms directly to a selected chicken, so as you have more and more resource gathering chicks, you don't have to feed chickens manually.
...and so on...need to think about building caps and unit caps. And what to do if you have extra chickens.
not sure if I'm actually going to work on it yet. :(
@ruthiepee Thanks! I didn't have time to even think where to bring the eggs. So I just thought, "magic", hence the lamp. Also, you are suppose to be a genie bird with a magnet above its head.
Btw, you can drown the chicks.
I can play this all day.
I've been killing the planets more than I killed the aliens!
Pretty graphics and nice music. Feels good. Graphics feel really polished. The straight line in the horizon is a little too straight though, maybe bend it a little or something.
I would play more of it if there are more things to do to fish. Something like the fishing gameplay in Stardew Valley.
Awesome! Need better UI though. I would play this for hours. Looks like a Zachtronics game.
I wish I can speed it up, maybe let it fast forward.
This looks really really polished.
Whoa is this a retro classic? Looks and feels like one.
Perfect!! It looks great, sounds great, feels great. It's funny, and fun to play!
Maybe add touchscreen controls and put it in the Play Store? Or I'm gonna export it myself and play it on my phone.
I tried so hard and got so far, but in the end it doesn't even matter. Bomb guy was too fast.
Their voices are funny, I heard "hehe" when a coin is picked up. The animations are also quite funny! The game is a little hard though.
The wall killed me! Btw, the source code is not on your itch.io page.
The popups are soooo annoying! So infuriating!
Funny game. Played many times. Once, I lost the ball half way through while it was moving very slowly after bouncing off a paddle. Game continued without the ball. :(
Nice graphics! Nice music! Nice sound! I would love to rake more leaves but it seems I can only rake them towards the center.
Maybe make it possible to change the rake's direction and rake the leaves out of view while the laser is just another option to get rid of the leaves quickly?
Maybe have some kind of cool down for the laser too?
@markopolodev I just thought of an idea. What if you can rake the leaves, and when they are clumped together using the laser on them doesn't just destroy them, but turn them into ashes or compost. Then you can rake the ashes together to make fertilizer and rake the fertilizer on to the tree in the middle to grow it better...
Wow! Quite innovative and fun to play.
I wish I can rotate with the mouse. Also shooting continuously by holding the mouse button down would be nice.
Kinda hard to move.
Wow, I like how when the bomb explodes there's that comic-like "Baaamm!!" graphic and the voice! Great job!!
I sacrificed only 7 people for the greater good, did I do well?
Wow!! Oh dear, I can keep playing this on and on and on. This is the sort of game I get addicted to. Well done!!
Thank you all! I'm actually quite surprised at myself for having made that music, as I am quite music-illiterate!
@rolle Thank you! Glad you like it! Nope, there's only failure state at the moment. Maybe I should've been more optimistic and implemented some kind of success state.
@kddressel Thank you!! Although that took up hours of my precious time.
@gao-ming Thank you!!
@mrjackhpil Thank you! You don't have to feed it when the stomach is full. The idea is that each time you feed, you're taking on a risk that sacrifices must be made, be it mood or health, but you're forced to feed, to take that risk, when the stomach bar is not full. You need to keep the scribbler happy but doing that makes it unhealthy, keeping it healthy however, makes it unhappy. It only writes good things about you if it's happy, to increase or maintain your reputation. Good reputation earns you more money.
@matheus-mello Thanks!! Yeah, a win condition would be great.
@fahrenheit459 Glad you like it!
@christina-antoinette-neofotistou Thank you!! You, a master artist and master gamedev that I've been following for a while who's also this LD's keynote speaker saying that about my game is sooo encouraging!! Thank you, I am so happy!!
@velvetlobster Thank you!! Is the music too loud? I'm still pretty new to music. Will do better next time!
@eva Thank you!!! This is the first time I've made an intro for a game. Glad you like it!
@thomas-lagana @efealacamli @devharts @kristinamay @derlassehenrich @firesplash-entertainment @mateusboga @elysiagriffin @jupiter-hadley THANK YOU ALL!!!
Wow, awesome game!!
Feels good. It's satisfying to watch things unfold. I wish there's more to do, but it's still very fun. I wonder if there's a way to fast-forward. Great job!
Love the art style!!
This is brilliant!! Wow!! I got addicted to it.
It looks so pretty, music is great, sounds great, and it's so fun to play! And you have character portraits!! OMG there are even unlockables!! This is a jam entry that you've made on your own??!! You're truly a master at gamedev!! You're one of those people that I look up to and try to be like!!!
Wow, how can a jam game be THIS polished?!! OMG, this is amazing!
Wow, I had a lot of fun playing this!! Also, so polished!!
Yeah, touchscreen controls to play on my phone!
Haha it's so pretty and feels good. But I'm not very good at shooters so I died really quickly, and it's also kinda hard for me to recharge the mana.
I can't stop laughing at the animal heads on sticks. Hahaha!
I also notice the monsters have the power on/off symbols on them. Hmm....
Everything in the game feels really good. I like the overall visuals too. I wish there's more though. Good job over all!
I love it! You get perfect scores from me! You're pretty good at this gamedev thing, aren't you!!
Awesome gameplay. I'd imagine if it has multiplayer, one side would try to go past the traps while the other side would try to stop that by laying traps.
At first I didn't quite get what to do. But I pressed on and wow I am impressed. I really like this game and found myself playing longer than intended. It's quite satisfying to see damage being dealt to the Fridge Raider after some planning. Feels like a strategy game of sort. Very interesting! Haven't seen anything like this before. Full stars for Innovation and Fun!!
I also like how the game looks, the visuals and the overall feel. Greeaat job!! Well done!
I love it! I want more!
I like the art, the style and overall look and feel of this game.
Pretty awesome game! Looks good, feels good! Really cool concept! I can see myself playing this over and over again and get addicted to it. However I think at the moment this game is too difficult. Great job though! I love it!
Wow, so adorable! I want some eggs to hatch unicornlings too!!
It's too hard for me. :'(
For a first game, this is pretty good!
I played this at 3AM while bursting out laughing non-stop. My neighbours are gonna think I have gone mad. OMG, this. Full stars for Humor and Fun! Also, the web version crashed my browser.
Wow, rap battle rhythm game!! Why haven't I thought of this?!! Also, it's really funny! I was laughing so hard I had a hard time pressing the right keys!!
Whoa it feels so good to move around and shoot. Great visuals, looks grim, but it's pretty and fits the game.
So intense!!
Wow such a shi*ty game (sorry  )! This game is really fun! I like the way the character picks up items and throw them, it feels satisfying. I also really like the art and overall look-and-feel of the whole thing! Really awesome!! Great job!
@ryan-brenner Also, the toilet paper monsters are so cute!
I can't see where I'm shooting when an arrow hit an enemy. It happens way to fast without any effects to indicate that something has been shot. Cool game overall! Feels like a Souls game.
Also, the thing with an embedded game on a web page is that if your game requires keyboard input but pressing keys does nothing, you might have to click on the HTML part of the page out of the embedded game area first, then click on the embedded game again to "refocus" the game.
This gave me some Pony Island vibe. Whew, I'm glad I don't have a TV. Pretty fun and exciting. Where is the next part?!! What happens after I stabbed Jake?
Wow, this is so funny! It's already quite fun to play. Polish it up a little more and it could turn into a fun couch party game.
Wow, you're great at writing interactive fiction!!
@saering Sorry! I didn't include a tutorial or even anything to explain the game. It's actually based on the JK flip-flop in digital electronics:
proxy.duckduckgo.com.gif
proxy.duckduckgo.com.jpg
The table shows what happens to the output, Q (in the game it's the 0 or 1 on the displays in the middle of the rabbits) when
- J and K of certain values only affect Q at the start of every clock tick - (which in the game is shown by the periodical movement of the rabbits' left legs) - PRE and CLR can affect the output at anytime regardless of the ticks, but they cannot both be 0s at the same time - (in the game if PRE is pressed, the output immediately becomes 1 at the cost of the remaining battery charge, and pressing CLR is similar but causes the output to be 0). - (running out of battery means game over, so that is your life, which is currency). - (however having full battery charge doesn't let you win the game if you don't end up with 1 when all the bits are used up).
The game is basically two JK flip-flops taking turns battling it out with bits and whoever ends up with 1 when all the bits (the moving dots in the middle) are used up wins and whoever gets 0 loses. It's possible to be tied too.
And also, at the start of each turn, a bit is transferred to the opponent who isn't in turn.
@szabe @saering Thanks!! I'm aware of how hard it is to understand what's going on in the game, haha. If I ever develop this further, I'll be sure to include proper intro and tutorials!
And wow, you both like the art? Haha, thanks! I did not intend to make good art as I haven't been much of an artist at all and just wanted to make something flashy quick and I moved some strokes on a whim and ended up with that.
I appreciate your feedbacks! Thanks!
@spudboy @ian-kettlewell Thanks for trying my "game" out!! And thanks for the feedback!!! :D
@jonathan-lorenz You probably ran it on a browser that doesn't support WebGL2.
Looks good, sounds great! Kinda funny too! And I got stuck at a tree and died, hahaha!
Screenshot_20190502_235310.png
In the tutorial, some of the text are under the buttons, so it's a little hard to read but on the whole I get the gist of the game.
Really good and fun!
Quite simple and straightforward to play. Looks good too, aesthetically pleasing. However, the game is pretty hard to play.
I can only proceed successfully to the next floor if I manage to first "dig" down revealing where the enemies are, then turn to face them first before moving down, then quickly fire at them the moment I've moved down. It can get pretty impossible depending on where the enemies on the next floor are facing. Also enemies on the floors above that suddenly move toward me made it even harder.
And due to how the player character moves, it can be difficult to react to sudden enemy movements too. However, I think this game would be awesome if it's turn-based.
(Pressed the "Publish" button multiple times while the site was lagging, duplicated post.)
I had a lot of fun playing this! Feels good, really cute and funny too!
Brb, I'm gonna make the tree stronger than ever!!
@anniv4x @kornel Thanks!!!!!!!!!!
@mateusboga Yeah, the sfx was done in a few minutes hahaha. Everything was too rushed. And yeah, a highscore would be nice. My partner got past 200 m, but there was no way to record it. I'll see if I have time, I'll work on a post-jam version soon-ish.
Thanks for playing my game, I hope you enjoyed it! And thanks for the valuable feedback!!
Finally I have a little time to fix bugs and respond.
@mateusboga @secretpocketcat
I've fixed the audio (hopefully), since that wasn't intended so it was actually bug.
I've also fixed the inconsistent framerate which caused the inconsistent animation, that wasn't intended either. The speed ramp was intended so I didn't change that.
Yeah, the controls were at the top previously but somehow I changed them to the bottom for whatever reason before releasing. Haha, noted on that!
@lalaki7 wow, it's incredible that you reached that far! Haha, cheat discovered! I just fixed a few unintended bugs, I wonder if it still slows down after 2300m?
And thank you all for trying out my entry and leaving me some precious feedback!!! I wasn't expecting people to like the game, glad y'all like it!!!
INCREDIBLE. Another perfect entry for me!
I flew out of the solar system!
Hi, I'm not sure why the game wouldn't load in my browsers (Chrome and Firefox). Do you have a build for Linux?
EDIT: Just saw the Linux build. Thanks!
Interesting mechanic. Feels really good but I find it kinda hard to tell if the bucket has caught a bullet or not, maybe some visual and sfx feedback on the bucket would help.
Cool concept!
Everything about this is incredibly fun and feels so good! Found myself playing it for quite a while. I wish this is on Android so I can play this on my phone.
Reminds me of Chicken Invaders!
Incredible!! Don't know what else to say. Great work!!!
Incredible art! You even have a walk cycle! I'm still not quite sure what's going on, but there's a mysterious feel to it. Wish I can run though, haha.
@kp-cftsz thanks for the Linux build! It didn't run at first but turns out it was just a missing SDL2_mixer, got that installed and the game ran perfectly.
Traversing deeper and deeper into a directory structure was also my initial take on the theme but I didn't have the time to work on it. So glad to see an entry on navigating through directories!
On top of that you even have a clear goal of looking for keys deeper and deeper into the directories. Fun game, funny too. I got all the keys at about 10 seconds left, my hand was trembling while typing in the card number.
Given enough time, you'd probably be able to make this into something even more awesome (something I'd like to play too)!
WHOA, what an incredible puzzle game! Simple mechanic but also quite deep. Art, music, perfect! Everything about this is so charming to me.
You're a gamedev god.
I find this really fun, and upon successfully hypnotizing someone, it felt satisfying. Like the sound and the voice with echo, it's really funny to me! I'm not quite sure how to avoid the police but I like their nee noo nee noo nee noo nee noo nee noo!!
Wow a steampunk underwater game!!! The visuals, the art, the animation, they're incredible!!! The music, the sound, the mood, so good! If this is on mobile, it'll be one of the perfect games I'd play on my phone. Well done!!
Quite relaxing until I reached the deepest. Feels like Subnautica but 2D!
Screenshot_2021-04-30_03-21-01.png
Great voice acting!!! By the way, you can fix bugs after the time is up: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules As long as it's not adding new features and levels.
Really fun! And really juicy. Omg that screenshake! I also like how the chandeliers are animated and swaying. The enemies are quite tough, so I had to click a lot to get them. Would be nice if I can just hold down the mouse button to shoot continuously. And I like that the player character is a duck with a gun. I'd like to hear the duck quack furiously while shooting!
HOLY MUSHROOMS. Love this game. Another perfectly made entry for me! It's 5/5 to all! SO FUN TO PLAY. And the visuals, and the animation, WOW!!!!! I'd play as a digging mushroom anytime! Really dig that animation! Feels good to look at!
Maybe if digging on different rocks giving different sound would be nice. Also, maybe arrow/directional keys to dig too instead of a separate key Z, I can imagine playing this on my Android with just swiping left/right, swiping down to dig, and swipe + drag to jump, I'd get so addicted!!! (Would be nice if there are builds for other platforms too. Btw I played this on Linux via wine, game looks incredible, couldn't resist wanting to play it just from the screenshots. But I have no Windows, thankfully it runs perfectly!)
GORGEOUS. WHAT A MASTERPIECE!
I like how the expanding/contracting circle around the player indicating footsteps is also used for visibility. Game looks great and sounds great, if only I'm better at it. Are those moles? Some of them moved so fast after they noticed me, I couldn't run away fast enough.
Great visuals, great art, sounds nice, feels good, fun to play, and so cute! I like how it gets darker as you go deeper. Also feels relaxing. Would be nice to play on my phone. I like underwater games.
Awesome! Reminds me of Surgeon Simulator, except this has totally different gameplay. Great art, great sound, great music, created by one person but WOW they all feel polished! Each level is certainly lots of fun! I wasn't sure how fast should I click on the button to resuscitate the heart though. Also after I killed the patient and got the "Murderer" achievement, seems like all the other levels got unlocked.
Took me a little while to figure out what's going on. After that I had a good time with it.
Love the mining and picking coins mechanic. Feels good to light up the candles too after finding out where they are.
The cart descends slowly which is great for me as I tend to not be very responsive when playing games, so here I can just chill and mine.
Maybe it would be nice if there are more things to do or interact with as the cart is descending.
And on the whole, really a great job! Wish I could make something like this for Compo too. I really like it!
Another game with a hammer! I wonder how do zombie smoothies taste like given how popular they are! Fun little game. I like how it looks, the music, and the uuuuARGHhHHH!!!
I think this is my favourite Ludum Dare 48 entry (so far). Incredible! Interesting mechanics there. Game is simple and quite relaxing to play, and it's really satisfying to get upgraded.
I enjoyed this so much I started to wonder, what if the plant doesn't get reset every time but instead it actually grows bigger and bigger after every attempt? And the root that was used prior doesn't get reset or removed either and it actually stays behind in the ground, but maybe let it blend into the background or something and we'll eventually end up with a nice plant with a network of roots in the ground.
This game is totally my thing! I would play this over and over and over again. Perfect 5/5 from me!!!
Crypt of the Necrodancer!! I only hear music in the main menu though. And wow character customization!!
Yay found another game that lets me swing around! Cute! Incredible art and animation! Really fun to play too. I think it would be nice if I can just swing my mushroom web at anything and not just when I click on walls. I'd like to be able to sling at anything hahahaha. Also, while hanging on to my web, it'll be nice if I can also extend the web or shorten it at will.
Looks interesting, sadly I'm on Linux and don't have Windows. :'(
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHA!!!!!!
Screenshot_2021-05-13_13-19-37.png
Thank you all for the feedback!! We're so happy with your reactions!!
liver.png
The visuals are so cool. I really like how the game looks!
Everyone has already said it, but I'm saying it anyway!! This game is really polished!!
Also, I'm not very lucky with the slot machine.
OMG. This is impressive. I better stop playing now. It's too addicting!! Imagine if it has some electronic music too. Would love this on my Android.
Best game I have ever played this Ludum Dare. Period.
I wish I can be this good at gamedev. You're incredible.
Perfect 5/5 from me in everything.
If this is in the Play Store, I'll get it and play it on my phone.
It's pretty good!! But I need to practice getting better at the rhythm game part. Maybe make it so that when Q, W, E, or R is pressed, there's audio feedback. Also, different audio feedback for hit or missed notes.
Whoa, awesome. We had the same idea!!
My game is probably more tedious to play. :'( My crops take time to grow after watering them, and they'll wilt if you stop watering. And you'll have to tediously grab a crop and put it in the shipment box to harvest.
Also my "ball" doesn't bounce on tiles. This game is definitely closer to Breakout than mine. It has actual "bricks"!
You also have a bigger farm, and you have rocks, and pick axe!! And you have corns!! Why didn't I think of rocks?
Have you thought of putting seasons and pests on your farm? This game could be developed into something really awesome. Hehehe, I'm thinking of putting rocks on my farm now!!
Like some one else said, I also wish I can control where the ball is going. But having less control makes it more simulation, doesn't it?
Always great to see a PICO-8 game!!
Wow, how did you manage to do this in 48 hours? Pretty cute and funny game!
Also, scrolling up with the mouse should move the selection left, and down should move the selection right.
Whoa, this is kinda like those Zachtronics games that makes you think a lot. It's pretty awesome!!
I love it!! I dare not keep playing after a while because I tend to get addicted to games like this.
Cool idea. I had fun playing this! But Bandai Namco might not like it, at all. Also, the link to the source code doesn't actually link to the source code, probably wanna fix that too.
This is awesome! Pretty fun game overall!! The only issue I have with the game is that the controls are a little hard.
Pretty fun and addicting!!
Great game!!
So addicting!! I couldn't stop playing!!!
Great concept!! Pretty fun game, looks great too!
I also really love how the terrain deforms around the bird.
You could've used a chicken for a flightless bird though...
I wish the slimes come at me more aggressively. Also, I don't really like having to use rock, paper, scissors to duke it out, too much randomness. I'd prefer something more skill-based. Like playing a rhythm game when battling or something like that.
Pretty cool idea. I can see myself playing a game like this a lot.
Thanks for providing the source code. I wanna learn MonoGame.
Thanks, you all! @roy I've added more instructions on this page, hope they help clarify the mechanics better.
Thank you all for trying out my game!!
@Firesplash Entertainment @ManBeardGames Hahaha, I really need to learn how to keep things simple or make proper tutorials. Added that to my to-do list!! Also gotta practice art, better art might convey things more effectively, not to mention I rushed this while working on another LD41 game in a team :D. I had plenty of fun even though I didn't do much due to the lack of skills on my part.
I can't make music well, but I wanted audio in the game, so I had an idea. The audio consists of an array of 7 pitches of some instrument selected at random to play everytime a ball hits a tile, in the main menu though, a timer is used instead to play a selected pitch. Guess what, it was done in 5 minutes using SunVox, then another 5 minutes to code in.
@LERPish @mintarcade Thanks!! Hahaha, guess I've found my niche? I wanna add more stuff to the game, like rocks, pickaxe, different crops, seasons and pests, and.... so much more but for now, I'm gonna focus on learning how to make proper in-game tutorials, better art and balancing the difficulty.
And oh, oh!! I'm also gonna play and rate all your games when I wake up since it's past 3AM now over here and I gotta sleep!!! Those who like farm games, check out other LD41 games like Crash Crops and Harvest Doom you guys!! @Firesplash Entertainment made a farm game too!! So did @mintarcade. Whoa farm games everywhere. Can't stop making farm games!!
Hahaha. I made a game about chickens laying eggs too but it was the last LD. This feels like an artillery game, if it is, I wish we can control how hard the chicken fires and also an indicator stating the "fire power" as it alternates between low and high like in the Worms games or Scorched Earth, also angles to control how high or low is the chicken aiming with its butt. I also wish there are more apparent turn indicators saying whose turn is it at the moment.
Other than that, this game has really pretty graphics!!
This is an awesome awesome awesome game!! Pretty fun!! Looks great too! Music is pretty nice too!! Wow!!
I wish there are other things to shoot. If you switch out the gun for a hoe, you'd still be clicking on the tile to do farm work. So it being a gun is mechanically not that different if it was a hoe. But if that gun could do what the hoe couldn't, that would be more interesting.
THIS IS PRETTY AWESOME!! One of the most fun games I've played this Ludum Dare. Simple, even the graphics are barebones (like I'm one to talk), but the game is so very addicting!!
Pretty awesome puzzle game! I can see myself playing a game like this a lot!
@khofez by pressing Q, you'll start cooking some meat, or pressing E, you'll start cooking some vegetable.
@BalladofSong thank you!!!
@Alex13 Thanks for playing our game!! Regarding that, the original idea was to have the hippogriff crave for different types of food at different times, either meat, plant or mixed. Then you have to feed it the matching type.
Also, @loim said, "Meat cooks faster but doesn’t fill as much, veg takes long but the perfection fills the bar completely but the burnt takes away from the fuel bar. The meat ball doesn’t take away at all. It really isn’t explained anywhere in the game, I suppose something you are suppose to discover over many plays."
But alas, we are a team of people across several timezones working on the same project. Everyone did a great job and they did their best but we ran out of time to implement a bunch of things in the original design (and I barely did anything for the team because my JavaScript skills are just plain bad, so it was greatly my fault too for the game to miss out plenty of stuff).
@Alex13 Great idea!!
Don't worry about being rude (you weren't), feedback like this can only drive us to improve. Keep them coming, criticize our game! Roast it! Don't worry about being harsh. We actually love it!!
This isn't the kind of game that I'd normally enjoy playing. However I had a pretty great time with this game.
Wow, why is the woman trying to eat me? I started laughing so hard after she said she was gonna eat me, and I ran around and around and around.
Awesome aesthetic and music. 5/5 for everything. Keep developing it!! This is great work!!
