This was a fun little text adventure. I enjoyed the small dash of visual and audio effects that added to the text adventure feeling without overpowering it. At some points, however, I found that the black text on the dark background made it impossible to read the text without selecting it to change the colors. Overall pretty interesting and I even played through a couple times to try different paths.
Hey @bentglasstube thank you! I'm wondering if you could mention a specific point at which that happened? The worst text-to-bg contrast should be black vs blue, so if something's not showing up correctly I might have a bug in there that I could fix. Thanks so much for playing, and for the kind words.
EDIT: nvm, I fixed it I think! I don't think it was reading the transparency of a certain CSS transition correctly. Should be good now.

Well, that was neat.
Admittedly, we don't learn much about what's going on or why, unless I missed some options that give hints to what's going on. Even so, I liked the visual details and the chapter-like structure.
There is, however, a rather odd bug. The aformentioned text that's difficult read does exist -- but only if you try and have the game be full-screen. Keeping it within the window on itch seems to avoid the issue.
@dwam Thanks. Yeah, perhaps someday when I have more time I'll flesh it out some more. Thanks so much for playing!

Interesting game, I experienced a bug in which I had black text on a black background so I was unable to experience a crucial part of the story, otherwise looked promising.

I love text adventure. ^_^ This is great, especially for a first game! (But hey, I always walk home in the rain!) I like how you played with the colors and music to set the mood, and the different spacing and movement of the text. Simple yet effective!
I loved it. I tried to imagine if I were just reading it, because there weren't too many choices, and I felt like the animations and interactions added a lot. Nicely done.

A very interesting game (as many people have pointed out), and one I've never seen before this LD.
The whole experience was pretty smooth and polished, even if the story was seemingly random. Thats not to say it wasn't entertaining, as I found myself pretty enraptured in the game.
I myself didn't experience any bugs. For a first every game, its not bad! Maybe work on it a bit more, make multiple endings and you have yourself a complete game!
Good job overall, very unique.
Very well written. Very funny. Enjoyed it a few times (always have to see what happens when you click the other choices). Doesn't seem to work on firefox.

Pretty interesting game, the only game of that king I've played on this Lundum Dare so far. A bit short, and I would have liked to see the theme being more personal to the character, that would have justified his action of killing that random guy. It's not clear why the "TV" is talking to you, nor what are its motivations, its goals, etc. I like the humor in this one, but it's sometimes unexpected and comes in situations which doesn't require it at all (eg: tke little ritual boold sacrifice, maybe putting it elsewhere would have been a better decision, but it's just my opinion).
The auto-scrolling makes it very comfortable to navigate. I didn't realize you could click on previous choices to display alternatives pieces of story, so I has stuck like ten minutes on the scene with the japanese cartoon with getting how to progress, but I eventually did.
A minor problem however is the color of the interactable text when the background itseld changes color. The dark blue on the black background makes it really hard to read, maybe changing the color to red would have been softer on the eye (and give more of an uneasy feeling, if you see what I mean).
Other than that, it's a pretty good experience, I really like the silence intalled during the scenes with the TV, but maybe more static noises would have been welcomes. Good contrast with the happy and cheerful music. Good job, and sorry for my little wall of text!
A surprisingly fun implementation of a text-only adventure.
Two bugs: 1) Sometimes the scroll behavior feels a bit weird. This is further complicated by choices occasionally being below the "fold". it might be nice to have a big angry flashy arrow of some kind to remind us that there's more to see. I find myself getting into a "groove" clicking options and not really paying a ton of attention to the scroll bar.
2) The game seems to have ended (or bugged out) at "You turn on the TV. It's showing some sort of Japanese cartoon." followed by the narrator quipping "Is now really the time?". I can't seem to progress from here, but it's not obviously a failure/game over state. After reading some other comments, I realized I had to scroll up and click a different option, which was not obvious.
Quite a bit of writing here for a Jam game, and I love seeing narrative works in LD. Great job!

A little bit too much "on the rails", however, maybe this is by design, because the lack of agency is kind of the point of the game towards the end... Though having a little more contrast (with choices before the culmination affect the story flow noticeably, and all the "not going to work this time..." abruptions are saved to the final accord, might have had a more impact on the player...
But this is probably asking too much from a Jam game.
Sounds are really nice.
Also maybe I did something wrong, but when I started watching TV while being guest, the game just... stopped and offered no continuation. Is this right?

Hey great story i was just stuck for a few minutes cause i did not had any option to select and i had to scroll back up a bit and a black text over black back ground but if you select it with the mouse you can read it. Nice text based game.
@antt5053 @hilvon @fireslash @quasar47 thanks for the feedback! the black text over black background shouldn't happen - it might be an issue with certain browsers or platforms (I tested with Chrome and Safari on a mac, but that's it O_O ). And, yeah, I'd love to incorporate more choice and more branches in future iterations of the game when I have more time and i'm not using Jam weekend to learn a whole new platform. :D Thanks so much for your feedback!!

I really love visual novels and textual quests. Didn't expected to see one here. Especially with non linear storyline. Thank you for this! Keep going!
Wow I love that game, I wish it would be longer :) Good job!

It's a cool and fun story, a bit creepy in places and I loved the music bits, they really set the mood for some scenes. I played through a few times to see what happens with different choices, I'd love to see a few different outcomes depending on player's choices, but considering the time limit it's not a major issue. You did a great job and I hope to see more from you in the future!
Some poor man was trying to help me and I just stabbed him in the gut.
5/5 Would play again.
It was a fun little text adventure, even if I did lose my free will at the end.

I don't usually like to play text adventures, but this was quite fun - especially due to the visual effects, font changes, audio (I think there could have been some more audio but what was there was good) and small text bites.
It was quite fun to read the game commenting on my choices (though my choices obviously didn't matter much)
The scene in Jakes house was delightfully uncomfortable. I find it interesting how I got fewer and fewer choices towards the end. Almost like I was remote controlled. That went along with the narrative quite well!

Fun little game that I ended up playing twice
I really enjoyed this. I liked the way you used the different font styles for different characters. The little narrator asides were fun too. Great to see you used Squiffy to create it as well. Nice work.
First of all, congratulations for finishing your first game. The game is neat. Especially the narrator text is a nice touch.
Great use of Squiffy, you did well for the game jam. Keep on making games for the next Ludum Dare
This gave me some Pony Island vibe. Whew, I'm glad I don't have a TV. Pretty fun and exciting. Where is the next part?!! What happens after I stabbed Jake?
