LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

RQ5: backup-dancer rampage! by Adrien Dittrick 2018-12-03T22:59:23Z

I loved it! Although at times the speed of the dancers was challenging (until like the commenter above I figured out resting my finger on the movement keys made unlife easier) I played it til the end! Took me a while to figure out what I was supposed to do in the last level, haha. Very satisfying!

One little bug I noticed, sometimes when the cops shot me, I didn't freeze. Didn't happen very often though.

The dance moves were adorable and the music is very catchy. It kept me playing!

RQ5: backup-dancer rampage! by Adrien Dittrick 2018-12-05T00:13:21Z

@adrien-dittrick You're welcome! ^_^ You had it linked in your profile, so I got curious.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Silent Whisper by FireSlash 2018-12-12T21:55:33Z

What a gorgeous game! I had a lot of fun playing it and the artwork is so pretty! I managed to get the whole team to the last town with supplies and plenty of ammo to spare. A possible error I noticed is that sometimes an event immediately repeated itself after I had made my choice, without any travel time having passed. In the ending, I didn't understand what was meant by the line "Your face explodes in a grin. Do you know where Ayumi is?"" Isn't she right there? The music really suits the mood, and I loved the desolate, desperate atmosphere. Well done!

Rogues Like Beer by NickZangus 2018-12-20T18:57:14Z

Wow, what a gorgeous game entry! The art style is charming and the graphics are beautiful, the music wonderfully emphasises the humorous mood, the puzzles feel fresh and new. All around excellent!

Bunnycula by pcmaster 2018-12-12T21:05:01Z

This reminds me of a book I read as a child, Bunnicula. ^_^ Fun idea! I'm impressed what you managed in such a short amount of time. With some spooky music this would make a neat Halloween game. I played the HTML version. Controls were pretty smooth I felt, but I didn't manage to actually grab hold of my prey. Maybe I was doing something wrong? I just walked right up to them while they were eating the carrots.

Bunnycula by pcmaster 2018-12-13T10:05:21Z

@pcmaster Alright thank you! That did the trick~

The Saver by dunin 2018-12-06T00:56:16Z

Lovely art within a very restricted color palette and interesting twist on a platformer! The audio works so well with the visuals on building the mood. Love the story idea, too!

Santa frowns to town by tanis 2018-12-08T14:05:58Z

I see others have already commented on the sluggish movement of the web version, I can confirm that experience. When I jumped, Santa vanished into the stratosphere and I thought he was gone, but after several seconds he floated back down to Earth, haha. The music and art is adorable, and the concept of the witch reminds me of Befana folklore, or possibly even Baba Yaga. Great effort for the 48 hours!

KeyboardGod by maskinmask 2018-12-09T16:41:45Z

This is such a cute game, I absolutely love the art style. Great job! I also enjoyed the gameplay once I got used to it. The humor was also adorable.

Colors of Your World by DDRKirbyISQ 2018-12-28T22:59:48Z

Absolutely gorgeous game, beautiful music, smooth mechanics, and nicely paced learning curve! The polish of this game is impressive.

The Cold Equations by incobalt 2018-12-04T03:04:57Z

Loved the mood in this, even though it was incredibly sad. Especially the line about if she had been 30kg lighter (don't remember the exact weight), since that would have been an impossible condition for her to be in the first place. Gameplay worked fine, although I first didn't realize how to contact support and fired her into space without telling anybody in my first playthrough.

Room44 by arzi 2018-12-06T00:50:48Z

Absolutely gorgeous game! It was a fun little mystery, and the end leaves you more confused than the start, haha. Really nice touch on having the "?" question mark pop up with a delay at the very end. I also like that you can shortcut to the sacrificing so that you can check out all endings.

How to ruin your life in 48 hours by Yaroslav Kravtsov 2018-12-04T00:17:33Z

I'm impressed how much you packed into this game! Quirky humor and cute details inside the rooms, and the minigames were entertaining!

It was a little overwhelming in my first playthrough, and I forgot the tutorial of using LeftCtrl to stand up from the computer so I died a sad death in my chair, haha. A fun overall experience though!

Eradicator by Linky439 2018-12-16T17:11:14Z

Crisp colors, catchy music, and a nicely nostalgic arcade feel! I tried to play a pacifist run, but it seems "sacrifices must be made". The ending especially makes this point, when you see the tragic details of your victims. Maybe in a future build (if you choose to continue this game) could have you sacrificing score points or elapsed time in order to clear the road and spare civilians?

Kill chickens for better art! by loveapplegames 2018-12-04T01:05:35Z

An interesting concept! It's nice to see something so different. I don't think I quite understood how the patterns work, but it was very satisfying to place them. ^_^

However, I didn't hear any audio while playing, despite having the audio button in the game turned on.

Ludum Dare Simulator by Hempuli 2018-12-04T01:23:30Z

Interesting concept and fun interpretation of managing your time and efforts. The pixel art is charming, and I appreciate small details that add to the mood, like having the waste basket tipped over, or the hand-drawn letters that add to the feeling of this being a game within a game.

Let there bee sacrifices by Goplite 2018-12-09T15:40:01Z

My first battle was a miserable failure because I seem to have misunderstood how the game works. I absolutely love the art for the bees though, very charming! I like the idea behind the game, it suits the Sacrifice theme very well.

Cultist of sacrifices by falak 2018-12-07T20:05:44Z

I love the way the dialogue works, unintelligible babble that still conveys personality, especially as the cult leaders rambling "undoes" the King's words. Unfortunately I got stuck in the game because I couldn't figure out how to bring the bull. After slaying a few cows for leather, I made a bull follow me back to the cult base, but nothing happened. What do I do next?

Cultist of sacrifices by falak 2018-12-07T21:32:51Z

@falak Ah, thanks! It took a while for me to get the Master to trigger properly. Poor knights being used as fodder against the cultist. A fun game and interesting idea!

Mary had some lamb to spare by 100th_Coin 2018-12-04T01:38:36Z

The music is catchy and the art is so adorable, the cover image drew me in immediately. All the cute sheep costumes omg! Someone else already mentioned it's a little difficult to see when Mary is hurt, but other than that the gameplay was smooth.

After Hours: A Reverse Metroidvania by MattWoelk 2018-12-09T18:21:04Z

This is such a clever idea! I love it. Nobody ever considers the effort that goes into cleaning up behind the Hero, haha. Thank you also for letting us see the whole area, that is helpful! The audio and art is very charming and the game is written with a sympathetic sense of humor. I had a lot of fun!

STAR JUNK by christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2018-12-12T22:41:54Z

What a gorgeous game! I'm impressed how polished it is, I couldn't find any bugs while playing. I also liked being able to map the buttons myself, I thought that was considerate. The art is charming and the sounds add to the old-school vibe, the animations and movement are smooth, and I had fun. Great job!

Orb Defender by JoshyOshKenoshi 2018-12-27T15:10:35Z

I had a lot of fun playing this game! I'm not familiar with tower defense games, so the slow initial pace gave me enough time to figure out how it works and what kind of strategies might work in my favor. The speedup button is appreciated, especially for the waiting times in-between waves. Well executed!

Fenik by Kataware 2018-12-12T22:18:47Z

There's so much packed into this game, I'm amazed. I love the atmosphere of art and music, and I especially appreciate the gentle palettes of vegetation, sky, and village houses. That makes the bright red and harsh black pop all the more! Also, I love the humor in your trailer. "Talk to useless, friendly people" ^_^ My favorite game pastime.

A.I. Careers Advisory Service: Your Path To Success by garygreen 2018-12-09T12:18:03Z

A clever, compact game! I like that you are able to quickly click through the dialogue options in case you want to try out the other careers. I also love the four choices, they're quite unique ideas (especially the Krampus; a topical choice considering that the Krampuslauf was this month ^_^) The only downside I feel is that there aren't many opportunities to strategize your climb, I felt like, because there seems to be no difference in consequences beween broken hearts, vanished rivals, or unbalanced nature.

Demon Rising by GerardB 2018-12-30T23:08:49Z

This game really gets you hooked. Gameplay is smooth, the graphics are adorable, the audio is great. One of the bodies got stuck to the wall, I'm not sure if that was supposed to happen, but everything else worked without a hiccup. Graet job for such a short time!

Farm to Table by mrspeaker 2018-12-12T20:55:17Z

It took me a while to figure out how to make the meat. I came back here to this page to check if I had missed anything, haha. What a dark game, underscored by the eerie Song of Storms melody. The game manages to be cute and dark at the same time. The 'love shack' and grinder especially. The Steakholders are delighted, in any case.

Master Key by Jeremy Ryan 2018-12-05T23:33:02Z

Simply gorgeous game. I absolutely love Keith's design! There's something scary about giving up controls, a clever idea!

HYPERFIGHT by hypersnow 2018-12-04T00:22:22Z

Fun interpretation of the theme! I'm not very good at the game, haha, but it played smoothly and I understood what needed to be done.

Sacrificial Love by Lazertrax 2018-12-11T17:55:06Z

Oh man, this was hard! I had fun though and I love the idea of the baby. Comforting it was adorable and I wanted to protect it. This game is well done for such a short amount of time! ^_^

Death of Sultan Murad by kr4ft3r 2018-12-07T19:45:06Z

As someone who both loves narrative games and history, I found this an interesting approach. I don't think I've ever seen a game pick this battle as a topic. It's refreshing that you admit you ran out of time to finish it, and presented what you managed to make so far. Good luck with your game!

Hostile Territory by widdershinscrustacean 2018-12-05T21:58:15Z

Interesting idea! I have no idea what was going on, but the mood was creepy and I wanted to find out how it ends. I didn't mind the black screen like the previous player did, but I couldn't figure out what it means.

Offering by ryzy27 2018-12-05T22:55:15Z

The artwork for this game is very pretty and charming, and the player character is very endearing. I like the peaceful atmosphere and the simple but serene music. The gameplay did frustrate me at two points, however:

Maybe I overlooked the option, but I would have liked a way to restart from the checkpoint with charges restored and the planted tree trunks removed. Pretty far into the level I hit Z by accident and couldn't progress, so I restarted the entire game.

I ended up getting stuck in the low jump part. I don't know if this is the same for everyone, but the spacebar was so sensitive to hard quick taps vs soft quick taps that it was basically a game of chance if tapping the spacebar would produce a low or high jump. Getting three low jumps in a row was very difficult, and I concentrated so much on trying to hit the spacebar lightly enough to get a low jump that I then failed my landings.

Other than that, I had fun playing and coming up with solutions!

Sacrifice Thy Robutt Parts by SimonTheCase 2018-12-04T02:47:10Z

Challenging in a fun way, and smooth gameplay. Also really enjoyed the audio and the end added a nice little twist.

Curse of the eastern god by Adrien Dittrick 2018-12-04T00:52:31Z

Very entertaining! I love how this examines the gameplay of 2D platformers and the sprites are adorable, especially when jumping and wearing a tophat. The audio is great too and I love the humor!

Soul Traveller by Jiri Hysek 2018-12-29T20:25:39Z

A clever game design! I checked the video to see other ways of solving the puzzles, I'm impressed! Jumping was a little difficult, but the art/lighting and music really establish a mood befitting the gameplay.

Triumph Tribute by guilhermesouza 2018-12-06T00:13:39Z

I really love the art and music! Took me a while to figure out what I'm supposed to do. I started out with the Cleric and I had trouble seeing where I was going whenever I jumped upwards. I ended up crashing into Baddies a lot of the time because I wasn't able to see them until it was too late, unless that is part of the intended gameplay? The mini games were cute and a lot of effort has clearly gone into this game for creating this much content in such a short amount of time!

Triumph Tribute by guilhermesouza 2018-12-06T00:14:27Z

(Also, I forgot to mention, I love the mechanic of running away instead of fighting. If a game gives me the chance to avoid combat, I always take it, haha.)

aberth: simple text based choose your own adventure by jfraser314 2018-12-06T01:25:37Z

Interesting idea to use Google forms for a game! I have mixed feelings about the story, as I liked the idea of counter-intuitive, unusual choices you can make as you play a cold-blooded character with a dark sense of humor... at the same time I don't share that sense of humor, which doesn't leave much else to experience. I like that you can go back a step if you made a "wrong" decision instead of having to restart the game, that saves a lot of trouble.

The Mist by tpamir 2018-12-06T00:03:18Z

Interesting idea! Apparently I'm not cut out for leadership, haha. The visuals work very well for the mood and I was determined to keep playin to improve my score. There were a few typos (eg. "dees" instead of "deer") and sometimes it felt like I just wasn't given a chance to succeed because the right resource didn't pop up. Still fun though!

Consilium - A history of life and choices by Gaming Night 2018-12-07T20:26:03Z

Very interesting game! I love the gentle art style, the soft lines and dabs of color. The audio really harmonizes with the art style, and gameplay is simple yet challenging. Love what you have made in such a short amount of time!

Vincent's Sacrifice by Honest Dan 2018-12-29T16:15:29Z

I really like the story, a lot of depth for such a short time! I don't mind the mixing of art styles personally, I greatly enjoyed how expressive you could make the cartoon rabbit's (and others) faces. The Lucifer sprite is adorable. I found the game itself hard, so I'm grateful for the mouse aim.

Ludum Dare: The Game by Darylsteak 2018-12-20T19:07:38Z

The dithering really does give you the effect of feeling tired, haha. I love pixel games, and this is well done given the short amount of time available. It's too bad about the click bug, but I'm glad you pointed it out so I kept trying. What a harsh family, to disown someone for working hard, fff. It's an entertaining game and I enjoyed testing the limits.

Head Over Hooves: My Heart Bleats For You by Blarfnip 2018-12-09T12:35:00Z

I absolutely love this game. The presentation is so charming, with the sparkling cursor and peppy pink, and the story is adorable and silly. The mini-games were fun to do once you figure out how they work, especially since they reward you with more dialogue options. The game as a whole was a unique idea! ^_^

Volcano Island by Arvejeitor 2018-12-09T16:50:10Z

This was a lot of fun! The audio was pretty cute, and the art is charming. The simple gameplay is addictive, but every now and then I'd end up clicking two people by accident instead of one, ruining my nice long chains. Perhaps a greater variety of people could also add more challenge? Overall I was entertained, good job!

The Trolley Problem by Ludovico 2018-12-04T03:16:12Z

The simple graphics are effective for this game, moreso because they remind of the meme. At times I wished the cart would hurry up, especially when testing out how the cart moves along the tracks. Other than that, it was fun puzzle-solving. Definitely fits well to the given theme!

Lava Luva by mcovert 2018-12-30T22:59:47Z

Clever, intuitive, and pretty! I got stuck a few times, but the gameplay is smooth and addictive. Great job!

The Sunday Massacre by Ziamor 2018-12-09T16:37:32Z

The art for this game is so pretty and the priest's walk animations are pretty cute. I was a little confused how the Father became more popular every year when I killed so many innocents by accident in my demon hunt, haha. I couldn't tell if there was a reward system for slaying demons only. Other than that, it was fun to play!

Little Kingdom by tulipekoni 2018-12-09T15:59:38Z

I played the web version, and ran into an odd bug that would cause my coin to drop to 0 randomly, then jump back up. After sacrificing my camp I had 22 gold, but couldn't buy a small village, despite having the money for it, and while I could buy a new camp it wouldn't let me place it anymore. When I clicked on my castle, it gave me a text blurb mixture of camp and castle. stuck.png

I really like the idea of this game, however, and the graphics are charming! I could invest a lot of time into something like this, it was fun to play!

Sacrifices must be made - Ludum Dare 43 by great-bobleny 2018-12-12T22:12:13Z

The beginning of the game was a lot of fun, as I tried to assign my farmers strategically to wood, corn, and pigs. As soon as the first plague hit, however, the game became a lot more difficult. The Events seemed to happen faster and faster, and my tree farms were being devastated right after I placed them onto the ground. This happened repeatedly, so I just gave up. The idea is fun, but I suspect something is up with the speed of events.

Unicorn Rescue by devharts 2018-12-12T22:35:27Z

This is so charming! Nice and simple, smoothly animated and fun even for adults. Some music would really make the game pop! Unicorns hatching from eggs, that is an interesting concept, haha. ^_^

Non-increasing 451208114412965 by vilix64 2018-12-04T00:32:25Z

The simple art style and minimal use of music work so well with the story! So far the most impressive Mood of a game I've played in this jam.

Zackrifice by DerLasseHenrich 2018-12-12T21:15:53Z

These must be the cutest zombies I've ever seen. I found it to be quite difficult, especially further on, but it's still fun to try! The pixel art and music are charming.

Oregon Tail by DoctorMozart 2018-12-11T17:46:15Z

What a fun little game! I love the way the theme is implemented and allows for some strategy, even if you can't tell what results your choices will have. I didn't come across any deaths, so I can't comment on that. I defeated the Baddie at the end, but felt like there wasn't enough of a celebratory indicator that I had won, just a Restart button. The encounters were creative and I enjoyed the game!

Voxel Leper by BumDag 2018-12-11T18:47:16Z

I had a lot of fun with this! The concept is great, I wish there were more levels with increasing difficulty!

Don't Sloth by Aim 2018-12-16T16:24:55Z

Cute game! Movement is smooth and I could easily run it on my laptop. Unfortunately I kept running out of time to collect items, however, because I couldn't remember where the apples and acorns are. Some more easily recognized landscape could help with memory here. A sloth god is a fun idea, haha.

Steven's Journey by Engyne 2018-12-03T23:38:57Z

I love the art style and music, especially considering the 48-hour time constraint! I'm not sure I played it correctly, however. My technique was to use lots of small swipes to move the balloon, I couldn't figure out if there is a more efficient way of floating across the screen.

Little Red by LastLeaf 2018-12-07T17:58:01Z

What an adorable game! I love the two different strategies the player can use to approach this game and get two different endings, and I felt like it was the right amount of challenge in each level. Fits very well with the Sacrifice theme!

Cook by Koala Squad 2018-12-04T22:15:45Z

Aw man, I seem to be having the same problem as the others right at the point "Enter the house." I will check back to see if there's a fix, or you can @ me when it's ready.

I liked the first sentence of the game, hehe. Mood setting is great off the bat as well, I wish I could have seen more to have a better picture of the whole.

The sound of each letter appearing could maybe be less aggressive in your ears when it fires in quick succession, since it does go on for several sentences.

Cook by Koala Squad 2018-12-05T21:18:57Z

I was able to play it now! I'll try to talk about it in more detail without spoiling anything.

First off some small issues I haven't seen mentioned in the comments yet. I like how the character floats toward the target on click, but when I stood above the target, I floated through it. I also suggest to create slightly more contrast between the door and the wall. The color values seem very similar and some people aren't able to see color hues.

The concept is intriguing, especially the whole package. The ending is satisfying and gives a sense of relief for tension that has built up while playing. The part shortly before the end segment suffers a little bit, because by this time I already "know the drill" and am seeking the next step to progress the narrative, but there are quite a few sentences to get through.

"Innovation", "Theme", and "Mood" are definitely strong points of this game to me. "Graphics" and "Audio" are effective, especially since I can appreciate the use of silence where appropriate. I'm generally not a fan of the category "Humor" (I feel it should emphasize clever writing to suit more genres, and otherwise merge with Mood) as your game does better under the viewpoint of wit rather than LD's definition "humorous dialogue". I did believe to detect some reference jokes, but I could be wrong, haha. "Fun" is perhaps the weakest link. The player's tasks are limited and don't require thought or agency, which suits the game but not the "Fun" category.

I hope this was helpful!

Cook by Koala Squad 2018-12-05T23:25:36Z

@koala-squad I wish at the start of the judging phase LD would give everyone a pop-up quickly explaining each rating category, so that everyone is on the same page. Not sure why they use "Graphics" instead of "Visuals", considering they use "Audio" (and not e.g. "Music").

I just read "Ben drowned", thanks for the tip! I love the game it's based on, which is probably where most people who play your game will recognize the quote from.

As an idea for gameplay, if you were to continue working on this game, perhaps anticipate actions the player might take in attempt to resist the game rules or test the limits. I'm one of those people who likes to first try out doing the opposite of what I'm being told to do in a game.

smite by zanders3 2018-12-04T01:30:30Z

Fun game! I didn't expect the booming God voice, that was a thrill, haha! The only little bug(?) I noticed was that at some point, my villagers liked sticking to the right edge of the screen, but they recovered from it on their own.

Floofs by kaeveris 2018-12-30T23:04:55Z

Those sad floof faces really tug at my heartstrings. Aiming was a little bit difficult and the platforms moved quite fast after a while. I'm not sure I had all rules figured out, but I had fun playing!

Dark Villagers by AwiX 2018-12-09T17:06:11Z

The tutorial video was quite useful, because I couldn't manage to figure out how it works on my own. Great job on packing such a complex game into the game jam time limit! Quite challenging too, I never managed to last very long. But fun!

Sorcerer's Gambit by woofdog99 2018-12-04T01:35:16Z

Very pretty game! I like the art style and the idea of a mage job recruitment is fun. While the font looks good for headers, perhaps choose a simpler version of it for longer sections of smaller-sized text. I found the instructions a little difficult to read.

Sky Fortress by Quasar47 2018-12-12T22:02:06Z

I haven't played a game like this before, so it took a bit getting used to (unfortunately my laptop doesn't seem to be able to handle the game smoothly). However, I thought it was fun to play! There were a lot of weapons to experiment and play around with. I think I had the most fun with the blue spray, haha. Impressive job!

Squircle by mzhovnach 2018-12-09T16:24:58Z

I'm interested in the story behind this squirrel. Why does it want to kill snails with fire? I'm not sure what the icons on the bottom left corner are supposed to do (or are they just visuals?) but I managed to solve the puzzle just fine and the controls felt alright to me (I played in Unity WebGL). The audio was nicely creepy, I had fun!

Pizza Royale by Moritz Jaeger 2018-12-07T18:18:41Z

This game makes me so hungry, haha. Unique idea and fun execution (no pun intended)! I love the facial expressions of all the poor vegetables. Poor little buddies. Would make for a fun multiplayer as well, if you decide to continue working on this game.

Rain Away by hechi 2018-12-09T16:19:55Z

Finally a game I'm actually good at, haha. I had a blast playing this game! The art is pretty and the audio works well. How cruel to have to start over when you die once, but it makes sense because otherwise the game would be quite short. I had fun!

MeowByrinth by KiisuK 2018-12-06T01:03:37Z

The story tugs at my cat-loving heartstrings. What a cute concept! I really wanted to help this little kitty out, a great incentive to keep playing! The art is absolutely adorable as well. The previous players already mentioned my issues with clipping and controls.

Sacrifice My Calories by SaltyLeung 2018-12-05T00:05:22Z

Interesting mix of activities in this game! I didn't quite understand the guide, so I'm not sure if I was playing it correctly. I liked the platforming, but I couldn't get past the sumo wrestling part. The mice in this game are pretty cute.

Like the player before me, I ran into trouble with the screen size. At first I couldn't start the game because the guide was so large, I couldn't click anywhere. The game became smaller in Fullscreen mode, so I was able to play then.

Last Platoon by DarkianMaker 2018-12-04T03:21:16Z

As someone said above, with headphones it was a bit loud, but overall this is a fun little game, especially for a first entry! The graphics and audio (esp voices) add to the entertainment, although I admit I was confused for a while what I should be doing.

This is fine by Antt5053 2018-12-12T21:23:39Z

I liked the humor, not just in the game, but in the game description on this page here as well. "The player can escape the area cause I did want people to feel free." Thank you! ^_^ It felt refreshing to get out of the burning house once in a while. You openly admit the sacrifices you made regarding this game, so for what it's worth, the minutes I spent playing it were fun.

PhotoSheep by JakNak72 2018-12-05T00:32:52Z

A bold, but innovative idea! ^_^ A very different kind of sacrifice.

Cat Savior by Yury Kozhenov 2018-12-07T20:11:17Z

The graphics are pretty and the audio is heart-wrenching, I really wanted to save those cats. In the end the only solution is to sacrifice myself and hope someone else can save the kitties from their cages. The controls can still use some polishing, as it felt like I was gliding through the world rather than walking. There's a lot of potential here though if you choose to expand the game later.

Hunger Sings by Swanijam 2018-12-04T02:28:14Z

The art style and sparse use of audio really adds to the atmosphere of the game. I like how subtly the inner thoughts were hidden in a corner, like that little tiny voice inside your head. I only wish they wouldn't appear after the dialogue bubble was finished displaying, because that left them vulnerable to accidental clicks. I missed out on a few by mistake and even restarted at one point to try and catch them all, they were so much fun to read.

**FREEZING IS THE MAIN PROBLEM ** by CausaCreations 2018-12-07T18:45:18Z

A very charming entry! In my first round playing it, I found myself confused on how the game works, because the text moved too quickly for me to read and I didn't realize that running across a package will swap it out with the one I'm holding, or automatically chuck it into the fire if I bump into the fire. Once I had that figured out, it ran smoothly! Adorable art as well, snowy white background and gentle, friendly lines.

Vikrifice by Lucidus 2018-12-09T17:02:02Z

The art of this game is so pretty! And I love the idea of rescuing a kitten, though I felt very sorry for the pig after that brief love story. I also felt sorry for the locals, at least they just seemed knocked out? After all, this big lumbering dude is charging through their turf, it's no wonder they have their shields and weapons drawn.

The audio could use a little more polish and variety, and sometimes the idle animation of the viking didn't work (he used the walking animation instead, despite not moving in any direction). Great job on accomplishing this much in such a short time, however!

King's Last Stand by Pukami 2018-12-20T19:01:36Z

Beautiful, entertaining game! The art style is so adorable, and the sacrifices are fun and satisfying. It's really too bad about the lack of audio, but perfectly understandable given the time constraint. My only nitpick is the shooting animation felt a bit slow, but otherwise the gameplay is smooth and fun!

13 Days of Sacrifice by treegemmer 2018-12-12T22:28:06Z

Aw man, I lost. It's pretty challenging, but for strategy-lovers that is surely an incentive! The start had me a little confused, but I got the hang of it quickly. Interesting idea! Sound effects will definitely help its appeal, if you decide to continue this game further.

REQUIESCAT IN PACE (RIP) by pelicanodepico 2018-12-09T17:37:37Z

Very interesting game! I loved the puzzle-solving, it was just the right amount of challenging. I wasn't sure if I finished it properly however, because there were so many items I had never used and at the end I could only open 2 pages instead of all of them. Was that intentional? On the whole, it was a fun experience!

REQUIESCAT IN PACE (RIP) by pelicanodepico 2018-12-10T12:22:12Z

@pelicanodepico Alright thank you, that is good to know! ^_^

Stones by jihem 2018-12-11T19:00:16Z

Nice design and audio! That took me back to early pixel games, especially the sounds. Challenging and fun levels!

Burn-Out by Tom Kurcz 2018-12-07T21:28:35Z

This is intense. I tried several different strategies and ended up suffering in several different ways. I love the way your guilt flashes in small words (that grow larger by repeated 'offenses'). Very clever! A gut-twisting experience, but in a good way.

Love is Sacrifice by Pawel W. 2018-12-06T00:33:45Z

Very pretty game and charming story! I think most of my gripes were already mentioned. Especially in the neighborhood scene the Font became difficult to read because it was small. When Jerome came by and said "I brought you pie" his hands were empty in my game. It took me a while to understand that the text switches automatically, because I'm used to clicking for it to continue. This led to me clicking through the first choice option by accident.

The mood was gentle and bittersweet, which I think is a nice change of pace. A cute game!

Chiiip by LuCecyl 2018-12-04T01:44:34Z

This is so cute. I absolutely love the art style and music! Amazing how much you managed in such a short amount of time. A nicely humorous approach to the theme!

Gramma`s cat by Luma 2018-12-03T23:49:26Z

Hello! This is my first Game Jam too! ^_^

This is a nice effort! Perhaps you could add a few more instructions to your itch.io page. I couldn't figure out how to move the dog. Is there a key to pick him up or move him?

Gramma`s cat by Luma 2018-12-05T19:11:17Z

@luma Alright, thank you! It is a nice effort for your first game. ^_^

Watching by kristinamay 2018-12-04T01:54:19Z

I love text adventure. ^_^ This is great, especially for a first game! (But hey, I always walk home in the rain!) I like how you played with the colors and music to set the mood, and the different spacing and movement of the text. Simple yet effective!

2 Choices by Sashbros 2018-12-09T17:42:34Z

This is a good effort for a first LD game! I didn't mind the lag, but it was difficult to guess how far I had jumped when I couldn't see the ground, and I kept jumping into the purple grass by accident. Other than that, it was fun! Cute graphics too!

Shine by Jackson_makes_games 2018-12-04T00:58:20Z

Interesting idea! An issue I ran into is that the text at the bottom was cut off by my window size, and I couldn't resize it to accommodate due to my screen size. Otherwise I had fun playing it!

The Water Remembers by Kris D 2018-12-09T17:49:45Z

An interesting story! I tried out both endings in curiosity. I like the steady build-up of the reveal, and if you're familiar with the tale you can guess it pretty early on. It's fun, in any case, and the choice is difficult. Neither ending is particularly happy. There's a passage in the middle where the text paragraphs don't appear with time delay like the others, but instantly. I'm not sure that was intended? Other than that, good job!

Manik Hungers by TwoPM 2018-12-04T00:40:19Z

I absolutely loved the funky music, it made me feel cool despite falling down to the ground every second jump, haha. Fun idea and entertaining game!

Running through the underworld! by sadzanenyama 2018-12-09T18:16:10Z

What an interesting game! I love the creative uses of the weapons, and I actually like the way you can exploit the AI for your own benefit, haha. The Devil's voice is great, but I suggest to add subtitles when he speaks. Some players won't be able to have sound turned on while playing, and some players are deaf. The first time I played, the screen was stuck on the Devil's face before the first level and I couldn't advance, so I had to restart the game. Before getting stuck, I had played the tutorial and quit after dying, I don't know if that information helps.

Running through the underworld! by sadzanenyama 2018-12-09T19:14:53Z

@sadzanenyama You're welcome! I'm glad my information was helpful. ^_^

Lighter Than Air by simon.parzer 2018-12-07T18:11:28Z

Great job you guys! ^_^ The pixel art is absolutely adorable and the physics feel reliable enough to strategize your next moves. I felt like I was saving the people by popping their balloons and letting them float in the water, haha.

@hempuli The game runs in Twine and uses a HTML file, so I unfortunately don't know why it won't play for you. It is set to start automatically upon opening the page.

For You by FireBug 2018-12-04T02:01:16Z

@swanijam Thank you! Caring for your siblings does influence the ending you will get, so there's that. ^_^

@simonthecase I'm glad you approve of the pacing, Simon! That's one of my main concerns. Thanks!

For You by FireBug 2018-12-04T02:45:19Z

@incobalt @darkianmaker @ludovico Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed the story! :D

I did consider death as an option at first, but then decided to instead have the empathy impact the kind of person you grow to be, and the compromises with your conscience/comfort you make. (Thanks for the tip on @ ing people!)

For You by FireBug 2018-12-04T04:19:21Z

@dwam Thank you! I'm pleased you enjoyed the atmosphere. ^_^

@lucecyl Thanks! It's nice to hear some of the decisions weren't easy to make for you.

@koala-squad Thank you for the extensive feedback! I appreciate the effort. I'm glad you liked parts of it at least, haha, especially since it's not your preferred genre. In my personal opinion, games already train players to assume the NPCs will die due to making 'right' or 'wrong' decisions (leading to survival or death), and that type of literal sacrifice wasn't my aim.

The genre I consider more historical fiction than fantasy, as I delved into 12th century research and there's no magical elements. Time was definitely an issue while writing, however, especially toward the end.

I need sleep now, but I will check out your games tomorrow! :D

@ryzy27 Thank you right back! ^_^

Unfortunately I'm a newbie at making games. What you see here is what I managed to learn about Twine so far, I haven't tried Ink. Good luck making your own game!

For You by FireBug 2018-12-07T18:00:10Z

@lastleaf Thank you! I had to sacrifice Audio for the limited creation time, but if I continue this after the GameJam that would be a nice addition.

Maybe a security or privacy setting is preventing the game from running within the window? I'm sorry, I can't figure out the cause.

@kr4ft3r Thank you! Haha, judging by people I have watched play this story, poor Bertram was always the neglected sibling. (It suits his personality, I must admit.) I'm happy you were interested enough to play it twice!

@kris-d Thank you! I'm glad you felt the pacing was appropriate!

For You by FireBug 2018-12-09T19:19:36Z

@rplnt Hi! Have you tried opening the game in a new tab or different browser? I'm thinking it might be a security setting that prevents the game from automatically playing. I have turned autoplay off, does that help?

For You by FireBug 2018-12-11T17:33:36Z

@bumdag Thank you for reading! :D

@jihem That's interesting feedback, so far I've heard a few people say it was too long. Thank you for your input!

For You by FireBug 2018-12-11T17:34:45Z

@rplnt I hope it worked! Thank you for posting the solution. I can't recreate the problem myself, unfortunately.

For You by FireBug 2018-12-12T21:05:55Z

@jihem That's sweet of you to ask! Would you be more interested in more story about the children, or a continuation of the story as adults?

For You by FireBug 2018-12-12T21:09:41Z

@kristinamay Thank you very much! I felt like the arrow icons and setting might be a giveaway, but I was hoping to surprise some people with the endings (Personally I like the selfish ending more than the kind one, haha). I'm glad you liked it!

@mrspeaker Thank you! I was worried the endings might feel rushed, as I submitted the game to LD in the literal last minute, haha. I'm happy that you found the writing to be suitable! :D

For You by FireBug 2018-12-15T10:56:34Z

@aim Thank you! And I agree, sounds and music would be nice. Maybe a few small images, like a story book. If I turn this into a larger project, I will definitely look into that!

@jihem Thank you for your feedback! I will consider it. ^_^

The Vault by DWaM 2018-12-04T23:50:29Z

This was amazing! I absolutely love this kind of story. It didn't feel short or simple to me at all. Admittedly, I needed to read your clue in an earlier post to finish the game, and even then I was stumped for a while. The mood was set effectively with the use of just a few colors and simple shapes, and a few audio cues. On that note, somtimes the audio didn't play until I repeatedly opened up the same path (for example the page-turning sound of the journal didn't trigger until I read the same page twice.) And there's a tiny typo "the loud sound of metal scarping behind you" instead of "scraping".

Immersive experience, I got very invested in poor Alice! Being unable to click options is emotionally powerful.
