I love the art style. What did you use? what engine is this?

pawel-w 2018-12-03 21:05

It's Unity engine

shadowblaze 2018-12-03 21:18

The art style and models are really good, however I feel like moving around feels a bit sluggish. Good work though I like it

virtual-turtle-studio 2018-12-03 21:18

Wow, this was much better than I expected! Your art is absolutely amazing. And those animations! Perfect! The story is great, and it's actually pretty relatable for me.. It's always amazing how much we sacrifice for others we love. Good job on making this game! Unfortunately it sometimes got glitched, like below, and then you can't progress (the characters just stand there.) Maybe that's just a random bug though. Nice work :D Knipsel.JPG

pawel-w 2018-12-03 21:22

Thank you for your feedback. I will try to fight this bug in a meantime! :)

digitallimestone 2018-12-03 21:25

The text is a bit slow, but the graphics are outstanding! I suggest changing your cover image to a screenshot to increase traffic. Good job!

pawel-w 2018-12-03 21:29

@digitallimestone Thanks for feedback! I will definitely do that!

potatuetata 2018-12-03 21:34

Its a great game, i enjoyed playing it. I am only missing some music and sound effects :/ but thats no problem cause you only had 72h to make this, so its still a 4/5;

pawel-w 2018-12-03 21:37

@potatuetata Thanks for feedback. I think, I will add sound after Ludum Dare.

binarylynx 2018-12-03 21:53

It was funny to play the game for some reason. I really thought it is a story about 2 guys and I am still not sure but hey, graphics are great and atmosphere is fantastic. NavMesh movements are something special too xD Good job!)

okuar 2018-12-03 21:56

Is It a great Art! You are great guys!

theonethatneverwas 2018-12-03 21:58

Amazing game! I love this kind of experience. I have made some games with that theme too and I think videogames should explore it more. Congratulations to the developer

nakami 2018-12-03 22:15

Nice art and cool story. But as other I got glitch and I have to restart the game to finish it. You should add a button to got to next text, because it's a bit slow for me. And I know it's a game jam but a little choice or real matter interactivity could cool.

pawel-w 2018-12-03 22:48

@nakami Thanks for feedback and sorry for inconvinience :(

iamstephano 2018-12-03 23:18

What a great idea. I love the art, maybe with the font being the only exception (Its slightly hard to read sometimes). Movement could use a little bit of work, but nothing 'game breaking'.

For future projects, I wish I could fastforward the text, it feels slow and makes me drift out of the story some times because I have to wait for the game to catch up. I hope that makes sense.

oxrock 2018-12-03 23:22

I think the art looks great, I was getting pretty antsy at times waiting to be able to interact at times though. I don't normally play these type of titles so I don't know how normal it is in that regard. I think music/sound will add a lot and I wish you the best in future development.

vickperico 2018-12-03 23:35

Love the graphics! And the story too. I was having a bit of a hard time collecting/interacting with objects tho. :) Good job

pawel-w 2018-12-03 23:38

@iamstephano Thanks for feedback. I ran out of time, maybe next time I will also implement some audio features!

ogniok 2018-12-03 23:51

I'm gonna repeat what a lot of people said already - love the artstyle.

tay 2018-12-03 23:55

The art is phenomenal for a jam good job on that. Looks like the turn rate on your navagent (which I guess you use) is quite high and the character needs to do big circles which is kind of annoying in small houses and some music or sound effect would've added a lot to this, but still really great entry!

2018-12-04 01:50

it's look realy nice but I can't try it. Only on windows

vivipr 2018-12-04 02:02

That's a very interesting approach. The art style stood out for me and the story is compelling. I'd only suggest to make the walk a little bit faster, but this is a great game overall!

100th-coin 2018-12-04 02:05

The game looks really good, it's a shame we can't rate you on graphics. My only complaint is the font. I have nothing against cursive, but it's a bit hard to read.

apccr 2018-12-04 02:36

I like the story and how it is made visually, but I really didn't enjoy it, it's frustrating, there I was clicking everywhere and everything to do something, the text is toooo slow, I couldn't skip it, and it is constantly glitchng, I loved the idea and sotry, but it needs to be fiwed the text and please use navmesh.

ellenack 2018-12-04 03:24

I have a really hard time figuring out what I need to do. I feel like I am clicking where I need to, but the character just walk around. I get the interaction text but no matter where I click nothing is happening. The game looks nice though. The main thing that is missing is player feedback in my opinion. I don't have a problem with the overall experience being on the slow side, but if I did something, I need to know it immediately. And if I can do something, it needs to be clear. :)

coleslaughter 2018-12-04 04:24

Love the art style in this! Very distinctive. The walking controls can be a little bit dodgy at times, but I liked being able to control everything with one hand. Like another comment, I got stuck at the "job offer" scene and couldn't get out of it.

The subject matter is something that I personally connect with and think about often, so I was happy to see someone tackle it for this game jam! Maybe implement a "click to continue" for the text bubbles though? The cutscenes were a little slow for my taste...

papabirb 2018-12-04 04:49

Pretty okay game! I couldn't read all of the dialogue, though possible due to playing in windowed mode, so that's probably on me. Some dialogue went very fast though, but most of it was pretty sluggish. Moving and interacting was frustrating, because attempting to interact with things would sometimes click on new spots for the AI to path towards. I struggled with the Christmas food, I didn't understand that scene very much since I missed some of the dialogue, and I ended up picking up the cake? instead of the sweets? and I struggled to interact after putting it down. I got stuck on doors a couple times, or just walking in place while trying to move - the pathing seemed a bit too circular in movement, maybe? I was also very unsure what I was sacrificing in the job offer scene, because giving up a job for love and giving up love for a job are both sacrifices; but I also got the bug of not being able to progress past that scene anyway, so I guess Liam will forever be indecisive about his job offer.

pawel-w 2018-12-04 05:30

@apccr Thanks for feedback. I'm using navmesh but for moving player i'm using root motion of animation. Probably I should add morÄ™ animations in blendtree to make it work. Next time I will do better. ;)

isaque-picao-sanches 2018-12-04 11:13

this was awesome af loved it

sapphiris 2018-12-04 11:21

The graphics are very pretty, I like them a lot and the idea was great: sacrifices for love. But I felt the game was so slow and I miss some music or sound effects. Sometimes text overlaps and they are impossible to read (for example, when your neighbour arrives with a pizza)-

exewin 2018-12-04 13:49

4-12-2018 14-27-48.png

There are few bugs and movement is sometimes tricky, but the sceneries, especially the park, are superb. Also game actually has a story which isn't too common in LD , so it's kinda unique. Also why there isn't rating for graphics? it could be really high.

pawel-w 2018-12-04 14:05

@exewin Thanks again for feedback. I opt out of Graphics category because 60-70% of it are third party assets. So I thought it wouldn't be fair to participate in this category.

bluelen 2018-12-04 14:14

The art style and the ambience it's amazing! Good job o/

tamas-turi 2018-12-04 14:35

Loved it, Good job guys!

2018-12-04 16:02

The text was slightly illegible at times and there was a desperate need to skip or speed up dialogue. the movement felt awkward and broke immersion. my character fell off the scene where the neighbor brought pie, so possibly forgot an invisible wall there. All that being said, I really appreciate how this game stands out graphically, third party assets or not. It shows you put the effort to make it look good and that's something to applaud. There's not that many story-driven games here so that's also very welcome. Cheers!

falak 2018-12-04 16:10

Art style is really nice but movement and interaction are bit clingy. The story is good. But one time I have bug with text, they overlap. Font is sometimes illegible but is more my fault then your. Good Luck!

pawel-w 2018-12-04 17:14

Thanks for feedback. I've patched a game little bit, @icegold like you said - I forgot to reenable invisible wall. @falak movement should be now slightly better! ;)

deideus 2018-12-04 18:41

Nice idea, i enjoy it. Maybe the text is too slow, but it's very good, and nice graphic.

kenn50games 2018-12-04 19:27

This game is good!

bartosz 2018-12-04 19:37

**Great idea and pretty good execution.** **Also loved story and the artstyle!**

Some ways to make it even better: - change font to something more readable - add sounds and some touchy music - this would kick up the experience sky-high! - let people skip dialogues faster - i was waiting ages for them to fade out! - let player move while displaying dialogues - or - as above - just let them finish dialogue faster

I would love to see something more being done with this game - if you decide to support it - LET ME KNOW! :)

stratoskakalis 2018-12-04 19:40

Can you post the jam version so that rating is more fair? Other than that I guess I'll judge you on this... Really great game loved the little story and the ending was great. On the plus is obviously the amazing art, minimal and low poly (similar to my game) but actually well done haha. On the negative there were a few bugs that made me restart but once it started it was fairly smooth. Great entry!

pawel-w 2018-12-04 19:52

@bartosz Thanks for feedback. I will definitely improve this game later. I was thinking about adding new chapters and of course audio. My dialogue system needs more polish and I'll try to make those changes you mentioned. Once again, thanks for feedback and good words about Love is Sacrifice! :)

juan-hust-novella 2018-12-04 20:16

I think that is a original topic. Game works almost perfect. Nice participation!

pawel-w 2018-12-04 20:20

@stratoskakalis what do you mean by jam version? All builds you can find on google drive (link above) or itch.io there is also dev log with changes listed. Could you describe bugs you've encountered? :)

stratoskakalis 2018-12-04 20:37

@pawel-w I mean that in the itch.io page I saw the game was last updated 2 hours ago which is past deadline.. anyway I don't want to be picky about the details it's all cool. Now for the bugs the first one was I would get a weird flickering in the text and the player would get a weird jerky/twiching animation bug the first time I played and I think it happened when I spam clicked the door (didn't know you could click on the ground). The second glitch was mentioned already by @exewin.

pawel-w 2018-12-04 20:41

@stratoskakalis As the rules say, you can fix bugs after deadline if you are not changing actual gameplay. And that's what i did here. :)

stratoskakalis 2018-12-04 21:33

woooooooot thanks for telling me that hahahaha @pawel-w and don't worry about it it's just me being salty :P

joshanthony1990 2018-12-04 22:39

I feel like the interaction was confusing. I had many moments where I tried to do what the game wanted me to do, and got no response. I also wish I could skip through the dialogue once I'd finished reading it.

I really liked the way the theme was approached, in a narrative way of defining sacrifice. I think some of the dialogue options were confusing, especially the one at the end. Both options could have been defined as a sacrifice, making it hard for me to identify which action went with the choice I was trying to make.

Overall, a good entry.

der-finski 2018-12-04 23:04

nice game, i agree im missing sound but on the other hand i normally listhen to music anyways so... great game

ursagames 2018-12-04 23:34

Your game was played on my stream ( twitch.tv/ursagames ) for the first day of Ludum Dare streams - you can find the timestamp of your game here: https://goo.gl/N2rkr8

brahmid 2018-12-05 07:32

Nice graphics, but waiting on text is annoying.

gebowunjo 2018-12-05 10:04

Some bugs are present with the WebGL version, also i find the game a bit slow. Meanwhile the graphics are just amazing for a ludum and the game is so cool ! Well done, hope you will continue the game after the JAM ;)

pawel-w 2018-12-05 10:56

@gebowunjo Thanks for feedback! I will surely expand the game after the JAM. ;) Could you describe bugs you've encountered in WebGL version? :)

matheus-mello 2018-12-05 14:23

pretty animations and art assets, makes me mad waiting the texts and many times a chose something without read because a click to much trying to pass the texts, its a little confusing were we need to click for interact and collect the thins, some times the text get over the privies one, some music in the game will help for understand the velocity in the game, a new mapping of the controls cold help, its a really interesting way to talk about relations ships and what costs to us be in it, keep the amazing work, plz finish the game i will love play a full version of this game :D

pawel-w 2018-12-05 14:42

@matheus-mello Thanks for feedback. Could you describe me what would controls ideally look like for you? It will help me to improve it later. :)

matheus-mello 2018-12-05 15:10

@pawel-w if you really want make a mouse only game, avoid make the player chose what path of the history with a simple click anywhere (use a button in a specific place will avoid the player make the chose accidentally), make the player interact with the objects with this same way (like clicking in the panel whit the text interact) avoid the player click many times in circle to find the right spot to catch the item.

if use the keyboard could be an option, use it for make the chooses and the interactions.

tulipekoni 2018-12-05 20:23

Really struggled with the dialogue.. It's really annoying you cant move while a slow dialogue plays. the artstyle is unique for ld witch is good. It lacks audio but that's understandable. solid entry tho, good job!

firebug 2018-12-06 00:33

Very pretty game and charming story! I think most of my gripes were already mentioned. Especially in the neighborhood scene the Font became difficult to read because it was small. When Jerome came by and said "I brought you pie" his hands were empty in my game. It took me a while to understand that the text switches automatically, because I'm used to clicking for it to continue. This led to me clicking through the first choice option by accident.

The mood was gentle and bittersweet, which I think is a nice change of pace. A cute game!

syrapt0r 2018-12-06 01:40

Really nice story driven game. Art style was super cool and the way you told the story was really nice.

bumdag 2018-12-06 10:24

I found the interaction at time buggy and difficult but other than that I love the art style, models and well done to the programmer bringing it all together.

mza 2018-12-06 14:34

Movement feels sluggish and Interaction takes a long time. But the art is awesome and simple. Great choice of colors and a very creative use of the theme. Well done!

vlad11 2018-12-06 17:08

The browser version of the game is a little bit laggy. But the idea is cool, good work :)

rjhelms 2018-12-07 00:01

Great storytelling and art. I also got stuck at the same place as @virtual-turtle-studio and couldn't progress past there - would love to see more, so ping me if there's a new build!

awix 2018-12-07 08:15

An interesting game with a kind of mechanics. I put a rating) Please rating and me, thanks in advance)

kothead 2018-12-07 09:40

I've got the same bug as @rjhelms and @virtual-turtle-studio. And sometimes pathfinding makes me run into things. But apart from that it is really neat game with great art style.

paul-p1 2018-12-07 22:12

i love the aesthetics but it's a bit slow. I really enjoyed how you used the theme, well done

ivan-garcia-filho 2018-12-12 16:34

Awesome, i love dioramas! i would just add feedback to the click, i didn't notice that i should get closer to interact, i tought that i should over the objects as interactables nd then i noticed that i had to get closer to interact, and the interface responsiveness is like a riddle... i don't know if i should click over the texts or the objects or when i lose/regain control of the protagonist...

pawel-w 2018-12-12 19:54

@ivan-garcia-filho Thank you for feedback. I'm currently working on navigation and movement. Also in the next build there will be some major changes in interaction system. When you hover mouse cursor over object it will show interaction UI.

acaral 2018-12-25 17:47

For a first jam, wow it's mastered. Very nice art-style, with a lot of work I guess. And more interesting you did a good interpretation of the theme and you incorporated a real story. I have to say: good job!
