It was a little confusing to be honest. I figured out the first part of fighting jackets. But I still had no idea how I produce more bees. Holding space seemed to work only sometimes. When it came to gathering wood part, the bugs next to the stump were not dying and I seriously didn't understand 1) how you gather wood and 2) how you produce more bees, so all my bees died to bugs. Audio would make it a better entry as well. I can see the idea behind this and I like it but I think mechanics should be delivered more clearly.

goplite 2018-12-05 15:26

@nettleflap There is a panel to the left of the screen with "quests", text in them is also a sort of tutorial. There is explanation about resource node depletion and how you train drones into workers and warriors by pressing 1 and 2 respectively. Sorry, there were not much time for proper tutorials, when basics were finished.

nettleflap 2018-12-05 16:03

@goplite I've read the text on the left but I still didn't get why holding Space doesn't produce drones sometimes and sometimes it does. Maybe when I was close to the flowers? Also gathering wood was kinda confusing. I guess they gathered when I was close to the stump? I don't know. Anyway I know there are limitations in a jam but have to point these out. Otherwise I can just say 'nice game' which doesn't really mean anything.

rosik 2018-12-05 21:22

@nettleflap maybe you need royal jelly collected from flowers to produce drones? Снимок.JPG

I really like the combat, feels like a carrier in Starcraft, which is great!

I managed to get into a state where I had negative drones, didn't impact the game though as I could spawn more, I was holding space and mashing two as fast as possible when it happened. I died shortly afterwards :P

@sauski I'm glad you liked it, though the idea was inspired by homeworld more or less.

I think I know what caused this, could bet some drones died, while waiting at forge. There is a small time window when they can die and count toward losses and then execute code to transform into another bee, which again will decrement their number.

The art is great, I love the style you used! Only part that I would change is the speed of movement, it is very slow to move around. I like the bee spawning mechanic where you spawn a bee and then specialize it later when you need. Well done!

Really cool game! It was super fun to be in control of a bee hive. What i disliked most is that you can easily run into a dead end if you run out of workers, drones and jelly. Then you cannot back on track but the game doesn't trigger a fail state. What would be super nice is to have a better recognizable cursor. I failed in some fights because I didn't see where my mouse was pointing. Overall a super cool idea that was very well executed.

As a zerg player I must say: FOR THE SWARM! The combat was pure mayhem I loved it, you try to make sense of who is winning and who is losing but there's so much going on that it takes some time. Also great detail having the queen on a throne XD Good job

The fighting mechanic is a little congusing and it is easy to lose a battle. But I think the bees idea is very original 👍

Cool game. I like the strategy of building your army, but the rebuild process is very confusing. I went to the left to get wood and was attacked by beetles. So, I tried to fight them, but they just decimated my troops. So, I went back and then got killed by wasps. I do think it is cool that this happened and made it felt like I was building a kingdom, but it is very hard to get going. This is a very impressive game and I still enjoyed it despite some problems.

Nice game ! A little bit of dificulty ! I liked it ! :)

(and I love the bees drawings)

kornel-meszaros 2018-12-08 14:50

The controls and UIs are a bit cluncky but if you understand this game, it really stands out!

Great use of the theme, nice hand drawn assets and overall a short but challenging game. One of my favorite entries so far!

Immediately thought about how making a mobile game from this can be achieved. ;)

Very nice art, but the gameplay is confusing. I'm not sure when I'm collecting stuff or when I'm spawning more bees or when I'm getting hurt. Seems like damage happens when you get close to something but there's no indication onscreen for what's hurting me. I know I'm supposed to collect more resources to make more bees but I tried back at the main spot and it doesn't do anything even after a few minutes.

rosik 2018-12-09 13:07

@cdunham you need workers to collect resources, maybe this was the problem.

firebug 2018-12-09 15:40

My first battle was a miserable failure because I seem to have misunderstood how the game works. I absolutely love the art for the bees though, very charming! I like the idea behind the game, it suits the Sacrifice theme very well.
