Nice game - like the models - didn't really understand the objective?

kaeveris 2018-12-03 18:57

@iviurray thank you! I was thinking about adding some levels to it, but didn't have enough time to do it! The idea of the game is infinite runner, you go as far as you can without dying and get more score.

kelbg 2018-12-03 19:07

Nice work. The floofs do look nice. One thing that stood out for me though, is that the faster the platform moves, the harder it is to shoot at them, since the bullets don't go where you're aiming. Is that intentional or a bug?

dougdevs 2018-12-03 19:33

I see this is your first LDJam submission! If this is one of your very first Unity projects, you should be proud given the time constraints. Once I figured out how to play and got used to the camera controls I had a bit of fun. Good job!

Feedback: - I thought the inverse camera controls with WASD were weird. Took me a sec to get used to, perhaps this kind of shooting game is best controlled with a mouse. - The projectiles don't always go towards the center where you aimed- Maybe it could have been more satisfying with raycast/hitscan type shooting. @kelbg mentioned this in their comment. - might be helpful to have a game over screen where a player can review their score before restarting instead of doing it automatically - I actually didn't understand the objective at first. Perhaps you can be more explicit in your description on how to play, ie. sacrificing a blue floof will destroy the blue spikes, sacrificing a pink floof will destroy pink spikes.

theseusinabottle 2018-12-03 19:47

This game was enjoyable. I will say you should probably change the link on your page from saying windows to HTML5 as you are probobly losing the chance for feedback from peopel who use mac and linux systems. The piano melody in the background is alright if slightly sleep inducing. Also as time went on it seems like the balls stopped being fired to the place where my redicule actually was. The last bit of critisim I have for this game is that sometimes floofs spawn one ontop of the other and make it so you have to sacrifice them unnessisaraly.

cristiano-t 2018-12-03 21:13

Sorry Floof unfortunately is you or I! Great idea... Great work!

kaeveris 2018-12-03 21:53

Guys, thank you so much for the feedback! I really appreciate that! :heartpulse:

@kelbg - the faster the platform moves, the harder it is to shoot at them - sorry, I didn't see that bug when I was testing the game, unfortunately it wasn't intentional

@dougdevs - good idea to make game like ths controller with a mouse! I did it with arrows/WASD as it was something I already knew how to do it, it was like a default controls for me; great idea with raycast, I didn't think about that! you're also right about better description of the game, I will remember about it next time, thank you!

@theseusinabottle - I didn't think about choosing HTML5 for some reason, thank you for pointing it! you're right about the balls not being fired to the right place and floofs spawning on top of each other, next time I will try more on fixing such bugs

@cristiano-t - thank you!

sandlantern 2018-12-04 00:31

That's a cute little thing. I was surprised by how the music didn't get old despite how simple it was. The floofs were fun. I feel like the aiming didn't always fire where I thought it should.

tomdeal 2018-12-04 00:38

I like the game. The floofs are really adorable. Maybe a mouse control would make sense, it is a bit hard to look around with WASD. But I managed to get 82 points, then I had to sacrifice my last pink floof. Poor floof....

thomas-bringer 2018-12-04 17:05

This was a nice game! The bullet doesn't always go where I'm aiming, though. Some features could have been handy, like a menu screen, but yeah, I know what it's like to make a game in 48h x) Congrats!

kaeveris 2018-12-04 20:18

@sandlantern @tomdeal @game-mon thank you so much for your comments, really appreciate it!

You're all right that aiming wasn't too good, now I know what to focus on in my next game.

kroute 2018-12-04 20:59

The music associated with those cute little floofs and the big scary spikes that insta-kill them... That was fun! It made me laugh. I might be a little sadistic.

Controls could be improved a lot by using the mouse though.

myfriendtames 2018-12-04 21:02

It's a wonderful game, the artwork is pretty awesome!

Nice work!!! :muscle:

The only thing I saw was that the balls don't come centered at times...

Good job! :v:

jequed 2018-12-04 21:12

Of all the games I've played so far this one made me feel the most. It was so sad having to kill off the floofs :'(. It made really great use of the theme. When playing the game, it was kinda frustrating aiming since lining up the with the floof didn't always guarantee that you would hit it. There were also times when where I lost because there was only one blue floof left, but I needed to kill a blue spike.

eric777 2018-12-04 22:45

Best score: 130. Took me a little while to figure out what was happening, but once I got it I thought it was a pretty creative concept! Floofs were extremely cute. The ambiance in the level was great.

The aiming got a little frustrating once the ship started moving faster.

2 day compo - pretty impressive. Great work!

samuel-fine 2018-12-05 00:27

Nooo the poor floofs! I had some of the same aiming issues as other folks, but the concept is really intriguing. Nice job, given the time crunch!

kaeveris 2018-12-05 20:46

@kroute @myfriendtames @jequed @eric777 @samuel-fine thank you so much for feedback! I appreciate it! I thought I managed to add that there shouldn't be a possibility of only one colored floof, thank you for letting me know!

fluffy-kaeloky 2018-12-05 22:50

As previously said, I feel like mouse controls are really missing, and the projectile doesn't go straight, making you often miss your target and as such is very frustrating for the player, as it doesn't seem fair. Other than that, the game is simple but enjoyable for a couple minutes. As stated before, if this is your first (or near first) project on Unity, you should be proud ! Good job ! ;)

wdelvi 2018-12-05 23:22

Projectile often doesn't go where you expect it to go and the sound was painful. Very clever, original idea though!

vernon 2018-12-05 23:42

This one is alright, I found the game challenging enough. Like others I think mouse controls would have been a good addition. I also noticed that the balls thrown towards the floofs when sacrificing was not very accurate once you turned to the left or especially to the right. This made it hard to sacrifice the one you wanted.

Also a counter of remaining floofs of each color would be very helpful.

Good start on a game though :)

falak 2018-12-06 19:36

The camera movement is weird. But I like the game. Good luck!

mohrro 2018-12-06 23:32

Shooting and moving the camera felt a little weird and complicated sometimes, but it still is a good entry with cute graphics and fun gameplay. Well done!

kaeveris 2018-12-07 21:59

@fluffy-kaeloky @wdelvi @vernon @falak @mohrro thank you so much for your comments! :sun_with_face:

mrleeperry 2018-12-07 22:01

Good stuff, keep it up and keep coming back for more jams :)

binaryspark 2018-12-08 14:49

A nice compo game! A few thoughts: why not use the mouse for camera controls, rather than WASD? It feels a bit harder to control than it probably should be. Also, like some others have already mentioned, my projectiles had a tendency to veer to the left or right, causing me to hit floofs I didn't intend to. Good stuff though!

binaryspark 2018-12-08 14:49

[removed double post, sorry about that!]

nekonyo 2018-12-08 17:01

Best pro simplicity and cuteness of floofs 😍. But the camera movement and shooting isn't good. I prefer to use a mouse 🐭 🖱 🖲 to play

rsim 2018-12-08 19:47

Damn, I love those cute little floof's! Great job on their expression and style.

It also took a bit for me to understand that I was meant to shoot a floof, not the spikes, and unfortunately the bug with regards to aiming being off as the platform increases speed made it very hard to play. I could see this working well with a sort of Angry Birds style gameplay where you have to load the floof into a slingshot and aim+fire it at the target, to add some more depth to the sacrificing.

krunoslav 2018-12-08 20:41

Nice models. I get the mechanics, but it could be explained, just a little "sacrifice one color to destroy the mines" or something. Sometimes the fire was not accurate at all, when I fired to the edges. Somethimes all the floofs were on the same color.

Really well in the theme, you do feel that you are making sacrifices, poor floofs :(

kaeveris 2018-12-09 21:13

@mrleeperry @binaryspark @nekonyo @rsim @krunoslav Thank you so much for the feedback!

vlad-ilisan 2018-12-11 17:33

Funny graphics :) Good job

peterfonts 2018-12-11 18:00

Nice game being your first game! Some things can improve: - Needs more feedback: game over situation, victory situation, good actions, bad actions... there are things that I don't really understand. - Improve the controls, maybe instead to shot with space bar is better using left mouse button. Overall is a good game. Keep it doing games! :left_facing_fist_tone3:

funkyjive 2018-12-12 06:27

Liked the idea. Enjoyed that I had to form a strategy of waiting until I could get maximum "value" for the sacrifice. A few notes. Projectile didn't follow where the target was pointed and would have been nice if I could have controlled via mouse.

geckoo1337 2018-12-12 16:41

Interesting gameplay which fits with the theme. Creatures are cute. maybe you could add a brief tutorial just explaining that each color destroy mines. Also you could improve camera movement. However at this stage it is good enough as a solid entry for the 43th Ludumdare. Thanks ++

kaeveris 2018-12-15 18:57

@vlad-ilisan @peterfonts @funkyjive @geckoo1337 thank you so much for your feedback! Great idea with more feedback /tutorial to the player, didn't think about it earlier too much (these 48 h went so fast!) but it really improves the gameplay!

2018-12-20 14:18

Neat game! I included it in my compilation video series of games from the Ludum Dare, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/a-epgKaAyrI

kaeveris 2018-12-20 20:18

@jupiter-hadley thank you so much for playing it! :)

omiya-games 2018-12-21 06:33

Not bad for a first-time Ludum Dare game, especially in Compo. To echo what everyone has said, the inaccurate aiming is a pretty darn huge dealbreaker. It sounds like the momentum of the platform isn't transferred to the bullets, so that could have used some fixing.

I confess the arcade-y feel is simple to learn, but also repetitive, and quick for one to get bored with. I get the sense the most amount of time was spent in graphics, which are quite polished for a compo.

kaeveris 2018-12-30 15:00

@omiya-games thank you for the feedback! True, quite a lot of time went into graphics :)

psychedelia 2018-12-30 18:31

Once I figured out what I was supposed to do, I had fun! I recommend implementing control with mouse next time, but otherwise, great work!

kaeveris 2018-12-30 21:07

@psychedelia thank you for the feedback :)

firebug 2018-12-30 23:04

Those sad floof faces really tug at my heartstrings. Aiming was a little bit difficult and the platforms moved quite fast after a while. I'm not sure I had all rules figured out, but I had fun playing!

kaeveris 2018-12-31 17:12

@firebug thank you for the feedback!
