The art is beautiful and music sets the scene.

It fits the theme nicely.

For me, travelling without events was a bit too long. Also, maybe you should block an action after the first unsuccessful roll? I get the idea behind this - risk and all. But if you make it possible to try an action only once it will make it even more risky and therefore rewarding.

Hi guys ! First of all, good job, a visual novel is quite hard to realize. Plus, hats off for the game art, really made the job ! If I should say one thing, the only thing that bugged me is the initiation (tutorial) part, maybe I skipped it or not. Otherwise, I really like it overall, keep working on it ! :)

fireslash 2018-12-04 08:33

@lossypi some actions let you reroll, others don't. It largely depends on how dire the situation is (ie, is it something where failure would prevent moving forward).

That said, I did play a bit fast and loose with some of the events.

The game used to play faster, but I slowed it down a lot for atmospheric reasons. I wanted to really dial home the feeling of despair and desolation. I may have overdone it....

Thanks for the feedback!

@sgergaud I'm not sure what you're talking about. Do you mean the first part where you can name your characters? Simply clicking "next" with no input provides default values. Though I suppose it's not super clear.

This was really good! I know that this game was made by a team, but still it is amazing how much stuff there is in the game. It is overall an awesome game.

glowt 2018-12-04 09:01

I like the look of the game you captured a feel that is really thematic. Its a slow progression to death. But the main game play look needs a bit more, going to a town the first time was super fun and I got immersed in to the world but when things start to repeat it took me out. Over all a nice game just needed some more variety.

P.S The art was awesome :)

Great job! The art is beautiful! The music is really nice! I really like this kind of game! I can see myself spending a LONG time playing it just to read the story! Awesome job!!

arzi 2018-12-04 21:45

Great art and that's a lot of content crammed into a LD game!

I wish I'd named the characters something else than random strings of characters though :D

toge 2018-12-04 21:48

Thanks for the feedback! Man, great deal of effort shows through in this one, must've been a busy weekend in creation. Love the lore, style and mood & feel a lot. I usually don't pay much attention to the rhythm of a game, but this outshined much of my play experience with its lovely pacing :) Might have to follow you from now on (great looking entries, btw)!

gerardb 2018-12-04 23:46

This is phenomenal. Really complete and inmersing game. Had a great time. Thanks for making this :D

matank 2018-12-05 08:13

* Awesome story, and really well written * Art is amazing - really liked the look of this game

* Events got a bit repetitive after a while - would be nice to have more variety * Would be nice to get some sort of progress indication - I passed around 400 miles but I don't know if that's a lot. Would be nie to know what distance is "left" in the game.

mukult 2018-12-05 08:18

The art is awesome. Cant believe you actually finished the game in so few days. A really solid entry for gamejam!!

sergman 2018-12-05 08:33

a like art and music is atmospheric well done.

gao-ming 2018-12-05 08:37

wonderful game and worth to play.

stratoskakalis 2018-12-05 08:43

Really great game, with wonderful art, mood, story. I loved the environment I was in and I was totally immersed! Great experience and entry!

pecc0r 2018-12-05 08:52

Wow, the art is so nice! The style is very minimalistic and I love the color palette. I also really liked the beginning of the game and the sense of urgency, but I got a bit stuck in the end with all the rerolling.

It's really amazing what you've achieved in such a short amount of time.

skytempest 2018-12-05 08:54

Playing this was an amazing experience. I spent more time playing through this than most other LD games. The beautiful art and the music really sets the depressing mood of the game, and the writing is really great too, although I had some problems with reading it because the text often jitters when I scroll through it. There was also a lack of variety on the town scenes, I think each town should have a unique place of interest.

Overall, a really great visual novel experience!

mrjackhpil 2018-12-05 08:54

I think it's one of the best games which I played right now. It has all what needs to be a full and great game. Lovely art, great music, story, atmosphere. Thank you for this gem in this jam.

pieter 2018-12-05 09:18

Great look 'n feel of the overall game. The text is light and easy to follow, well written indeed. The traveling is at times a bit long, but other than that, a very nice game and original in it's interaction.

great-bobleny 2018-12-05 09:21

The mood and atmosphere of the game is great, do in no small part to the audio and impressive graphics.

I agree with Matank on all points.

At some point, I just got the same two events over and over again, with no chance to resupply. It really just felt like I was waiting to die.

dyn 2018-12-05 11:41

Remind me Last of Us. Nice music and art. Completed in Capital with bargain. Is it right choice?

pkenney 2018-12-06 02:46

Wow, this is really something. The music and sound effects create a moody atmospheric background so that the art and prose can pull me into the game's world that much more. I puzzled and debated over choices, fretted over low supplies, and declined to take a few risks that might distract from my important but grim mission.

My only critique was that maybe it was a little long. I felt like I was repeating a lot of content and the game was asking a lot of time for an LD entry, but then as I neared the end I started seeing the arc of change in the towns. So the longer length was utilized for good purpose, but I still wondered if it could be 30% shorter, just personal taste.

I felt like a key design decision that really worked well for you was making me wait. Normally I find that terrible in games, but here it was a strong positive. Watching the tank's travel animation (which was excellent) with the parade of progress-meter dots and the mileage going up while the supplies went down, it was a strong moment. Especially because I was never sure when it would stop and I would face some choice.

Overall I feel like this game had a strong vision of the experience it wanted to create, and all of the aspects were highly focused to that goal. It really works. Great job!

farfin 2018-12-06 17:56

Really like this type of game the art looks good too. I'm a fan

generictoast 2018-12-08 08:36

This game sets a really great mood with amazing looking graphics and atmospheric sounds. It reminded me of fighting fantasy games with the different decisions you could make and the story telling. If this was made into a fully fledged game, i would definitely get it. Great entry!

acaral 2018-12-08 09:43

One of the best story of this Ludum dare I think. And a real work for the ambience.

rs11s21n 2018-12-08 19:38

so wow. but i really want to skip traveling time because i have nothing to do when it go. but all game have really good mood!

cdunham 2018-12-08 21:26

I was stuck at 530 miles with no supplies and all of the events kept just taking more of my nonexistent supplies away. The music and art really set the mood of the game, but I feel like it'd be better if it was a shorter game with more unique events. Mine kept repeating events, the town name would just be different as 'progress' was made. All in all its a good jam game with good writing, sounds, and art.

ruddiculous 2018-12-12 02:55

Got stuck not being able to scroll down at the "They don't take kindly" part.. Other than that super cool mood and great art work. Storytelling was well written!

ivan-garcia-filho 2018-12-12 15:56

Awesome game!!!, i think that just by adding more art and maybe putting the art within the text could increase thee interest of the user, and even with some tricks of making the text build instead of instantly appear, you could use that to also build up a music over that, thus increasing the drama.... There could also be some simple minigames to increase the user agency and interactivity over the narrative!

firebug 2018-12-12 21:55

What a gorgeous game! I had a lot of fun playing it and the artwork is so pretty! I managed to get the whole team to the last town with supplies and plenty of ammo to spare. A possible error I noticed is that sometimes an event immediately repeated itself after I had made my choice, without any travel time having passed. In the ending, I didn't understand what was meant by the line "Your face explodes in a grin. Do you know where Ayumi is?"" Isn't she right there? The music really suits the mood, and I loved the desolate, desperate atmosphere. Well done!
