Interesting take on the Theme.

mormert 2017-12-03 20:59

Nice with Godot engine! I like the retro style you made!

blackatlas 2017-12-03 21:36

Hey that was pretty fun! The bright colors on a black background made the game super easy to read and the 8-bit graphics really were great. The walking animation of the character was pretty funny.

persikan 2017-12-03 22:21

The game was pretty good and I like the idea! :grinning: One thing, though, is that sometimes the enemies spawn a little too close for comfort (if you know what I mean)

josh-ayres 2017-12-03 22:25

This was fun, but the audio was super annoying

pecolyte 2017-12-03 23:47

Pretty good entry! Easy but effective enermy design. Sometimes an enermy appears too near to the treasure so I run into it instantly. Maybe some spawning rules can improve this.

tezza48 2017-12-04 02:09

Love the walk animation. Feels like a classic Atari game and plays nicely I see others saying the audio's annoying but i think it's cool, it's consistent with your art. One thing i'd say is the beep when you launch is too loud.

professor 2017-12-04 03:03

This was a lot of fun. The art style was great, and I actually enjoyed the 8-bit sounds. Good work.

clayton-schuyler 2017-12-04 03:20

Felt like something you'd see in an arcade, looks very nice! I did have an enemy spawn right on me a couple times though which wasn't the best.

brookzerker 2017-12-04 03:34

I love that you put up a linux version!

The game volume was a bit loud, it startled me with the initial loading sound. But after I got used to it and adjusted my volume it was fine. Movement was smooth and good. I especially like that some of the bandits had static movements and some followed me around the screen.

I did die several times to enemies spawning right under me though.

xacur 2017-12-04 03:36

Nice game. Atari like graphics and sound. It gets very hard fast. I hated that guy that follows you, he killed me every time.

noethelazydev 2017-12-04 08:44

A really great game! It's a pity that I couldn't play it in full screen...

are-sundnes 2017-12-04 09:42

I really like the concept! (and it's a bit similar to my own theme called "Greedy Buggy") It's easy to understand and get's challenging really quickly. Don't think the "KILL ALL" thing worked?

pcmxms 2017-12-04 10:39

Thank you very much for all the feedback. @are-sundnes I think it works fine. This item will kill every member of one gang. It might have happened that you had only one gang member killed (or none) if that's the case for the time. I'll check it anyway if there is a bug or not. More people have said the same. Thanks for playing!

are-sundnes 2017-12-04 11:30

Ah you might be right @pcmxms - probably just didn't understand how it should work!

jani-nykanen 2017-12-04 12:54

Wait, why did that wall kill me?

pcmxms 2017-12-04 12:56

@jani-nykanen Because the wall is on fire :P Actually, I might change that for the "post-jam" version (or add as a later level thing). It was a design choice. Thanks for playing!

kromeboy 2017-12-04 13:13

Very addictive game. I died mostly because of walls. Also I think that in a couple of occasions the enemy spawned right on me. Other then that a great little game!

sadcolor 2017-12-04 20:07

Simple, fun game.

Would be nice if the enemies couldn't spawn right on top of you, but it doesn't happen very often.

The sound is good and fits the aesthetic but it was really loud when I started the game ;-;

I do wonder if it would have been good for all the collectibles to be one color, and then each of the enemy gangs was a different color?

pcmxms 2017-12-04 20:27

@sadcolor When did you download the game? Does it have the circle thing before the enemy spawn?

I think different colours for the enemies would make it confusing. I'm adding more stuff for the post jam version.

sadcolor 2017-12-04 23:14

@pcmxms Oops, I was on an older version.

The enemy colors isn't much of a major thing, just an idea. I think it could make it easier to pick out the different kinds of enemies when there are a lot of them on the screen & notice which type disappears when you pick up the kill item. It still makes sense with all of them being the same color so it doesn't matter either way.

robotsandmuffins 2017-12-05 00:18

Love the retro style. Also, really neat graphics. Great!

tom-panton 2017-12-05 21:58

This is a really fun game! I love the variety of enemies that can appear, and it's a fun challenge to try to weave in between them to collect more treasure. The circle to indicate where the enemies are going to spawn is really helpful, as it helps to prevent unfair deaths. The number of times that the walls killed me was a little bit frustrating, though. It might make sense to put some spikes on the walls, so that it's clear to new players that it will kill them if they touch it.

crowno 2017-12-06 07:37

The Atari thematic goes pretty well with the arcade nature of the idea, trying to collect treasure as it gets gradually harder is always fun. My only suggestion for improvement would be trying to embrace more the Atari aesthetic, going for a more authenthic resolution and maybe even throwing some scanlines in there. Congrats on the game!

ibrahimshersha 2017-12-06 11:03

I liked the retro Atari theme and game play. great work!

rankaquion 2017-12-06 20:51

muito gosto mas pelo menos pra mim o audio está estourado

pcmxms 2017-12-06 20:58

@rankaquion Pois eu baixei o volume pra versão pos-jam. Muito obrigado pelo comentário!

(For those who cannot read portuguese, he also commented about the audio being too loud. It is corrected for the post-jam version)

eerongal 2017-12-06 22:50

Has a really cool retro-atari game feel to it. It ramps up in difficulty pretty quickly too. Great game!

seano 2017-12-07 13:11

nice arcade styling.

pebkac 2017-12-07 21:01

Was instadeath on touching the walls really necessary? Other than that, nice game.

wheffle 2017-12-07 21:04

This is actually really fun in its simplicity. The controls are smooth and the enemies have a lot of variety. The audio is simple and fitting as well. Although, is the "kill all" supposed to, well, kill all the enemies? Didn't quite seem to do that for me. Maybe it wasn't supposed to.

But yeah, cool project! I spent quite a while playing this haha.

**Edit:** Ah, I realize the "kill all" is accompanied by an enemy sprite, and it kills all of that type. Makes sense!

pcmxms 2017-12-07 21:07

@pebkac I have changed the border a little bit for a post jam work. :) @wheffle The "kill all" (now "Bust all") is about taking all the members of ONE GANG ONLY, not all of them :)

Thanks all for playing!

volatile 2017-12-07 21:49

Nice implementation of the theme, fun to play. The sound at the beginning blasted out my eardrums though.

srakowski 2017-12-08 01:38

Aesthetic really brings me back to Robotron. It was easy to distinguish enemies from collectibles, which is well done. It was a little too easy to hit the walls, but other than that a great nod to classic games. Good job! :)

kashif 2017-12-08 03:53

The sounds kinda broke my ears.

But the game overall is nice and simple. Well done

wakka2 2017-12-08 12:21

solid addicting game. Only the sound was a bit annoying

one-seed-fruit 2017-12-08 14:29

The wall killed me! Btw, the source code is not on your itch.io page.

pcmxms 2017-12-08 15:27

@one-seed-fruit ops. I may have hidden accidentaly. It's on again :)

alottabit 2017-12-08 17:46

Solid retro aesthetic and a quick but fun game. I expected the big Kill-All seems a little underwhelming - I thought it was going to be a big reset button. Anyways, great job on using the color palette to make it easy to distinguish jewels from enemies even while tons of things are moving around the screen. It's super important for games like these but I've seen several submissions not do it very well.

jimbly 2017-12-08 21:25

That was a lot of fun! Not much for interesting choices to make or anything, but I like that the level specifically got worse when I picked up some loot, never felt like the game was randomly punishing me. My high score was only 390, though I kept on playing one more game for a while =).

First game I died as soon as I picked up loot for no apparently reason. Reason was apparently the loot was next to the wall and I had no idea the (non-red) walls could kill me!

pcmxms 2017-12-08 22:37

@jimbly did you play the post-jam version? Only the PJ version has this wall distinction. In The jam version, the wall is all blue and kills you always.

Thanks for playing and for the feedback :)

jimbly 2017-12-08 22:54

I played whatever was linked here, I'm assuming that's not the post-jam version. Looking now, it's hard to tell which is which, but I think I did the original =).

ekilibr 2017-12-10 15:02

Impressed by the result for 8 hours of work...! As it has already been said, the game feels fair even though getting harder and harder, which is not that easy design speaking, especialy in such a period of time.

Well done!

hydro-games 2017-12-10 15:11

I love the retro style! It looks like an old Atari 2600 game! Really Fun! :)

le-slo 2017-12-10 15:26

I really enjoyed this game I played until I was satisfied with my score not when I was bored. It was simple but very well executed. The only thing I didn't liked was that the spawn sound was a bit annoying.

svr-audio 2017-12-10 15:32

Really good old school vibe in this game, really different from most of ludum dare entries, pretty cool game, i loved the art, the sounds are not bad but they could be a little bit "cleaner", anyway this is a real gem, great job !

Belo jogo cara, mt legal ver um Br fazer um jogo fora do normal do que se ve por aqui, realmente tem um pegada bem ataria, parabens !

lucas-ferrantelli 2017-12-10 15:37

Oh dude, I love this retro style ! I tryharded your game dude you have no idea ^^' Good job, nice submission !

remco 2017-12-11 11:28

The controls where very responsive. I liked the effect you use to show 'here comes a new one'.

I question the decision to make the wall deadly, since it's hard enough already, although _of course_ they'd have done the same back when they made the original arcade-games.

All in all very well done for < 8 hours!

ETA: Played on Linux, works well, but the actual 'window' parts of the window are missing, so I couldn't move it across the screen

pcmxms 2017-12-11 11:35

Hi @remco, please try the post-jam version and let me know if it got better :) thanks for playing!

remco 2017-12-11 12:58

@pcmxms Yes, that fixes the 'windowless window' problem (I know there's a name for the extra bits, but I'm too lazy to look that up right now). What I forgot to add (and the game still does this in the 'PJ' version); I start it from a terminal, and it complains about missing an image called

> ERROR: load_image: Error opening file: res://Figuras/upndown.png > At: core/io/image_loader.cpp:54.

Doesn't _seem_ to impact the game, but I thought you might like to know anyway.

pcmxms 2017-12-11 13:08

@remco Thanks for letting me know that. I'll check what's going on. Cheers!

creamybacon2 2017-12-12 01:35

I love new games made in an old style! They are simple to learn, fun to play, and can be very addictive. You did a good job capturing that old Atari look and feel all the while staying in the theme presented. Good Job!

jozgames 2017-12-12 21:58

jfraser314 2017-12-13 23:29

Fun game. I really liked the sounds. Boy did I see that Game Over screen alot. My only complaint is that I wish the edges didn't kill me, but that would probably take away from some of the frantic-ness of your game. Great entry over-all!

saramartins 2017-12-14 01:47

Haha this was fun! Loved the whole retro feel - I felt like I was playing one of my old shareware cds. The art is pretty simply but good, and so are the little animations. At first I thought the walls where like on snake but then I died xD

Controls are pretty simple and easy too. It's a really great game for 8 hours! I just missed a cool 8bit background music, and was startled by the sound on the beginning, I was wearing headphones. Overall great game!

chronosv2 2017-12-14 05:27

This was a really cool throwback to a bygone era. This felt like something that could actually exist on the Atari 2600.

The graphics contrast was good and helped make visualizing the play field easy. The sounds were much like what you would hear from an Atari, and were very well done.

My only complaint is one that I saw already before -- I felt like it was way to easy to bump into the sides and die. I feel like a 0.3sec grace period or something would make for a less frustrating end, but maybe at the same time I could see that lessening the experience.

Keep up the great work!

yohoho-games-2 2017-12-14 05:58

an excellent game reminiscent of old school) fits perfectly into the topic of jam as it seems to me) it's funny in general)

wolfo 2017-12-15 03:55

Really nice job, an extremely simple idea developed in a very fun way.

Really quite liked it, nicely done!

pilarius 2017-12-16 01:42

I was not really impressed from the screenshots in the beginning, but the style works great with the overall game design. The shapes and colors of the enemies are distinguishable and helps to keep an overview later in the game. The controls are working ok, but the fact that the walls are killing you too were just frustrating. Maneuvering the character between the wall and an enemy and dying because the character moves 2 pixels too far to the wall was frustrating and killed the fun of the game for me. Dodging all the enemies and praying for an "kill all" was great and i spend more time, trying to beat my own high score (620) than i should have been. Over all great entry but i would think about letting the wall only being a collider than an additional insta death.

FYI: - Moving diagonal instead of up and down is faster. Intended? - having 2 enemies spawn at the same time let the audio sound bad

porcus-pie 2017-12-16 06:06

This was a really solid game with a highly stylised atmosphere. The gameplay itself was simple and effective, and thinking ahead and planning enemy movements was enjoyable. The graphics were simple yet they were rather effective, and the audio worked as well. It worked, there was nothing overly bad about it and it played really smoothly. My only real complaint is the positioning of the start button, as well as the lack of indication about how running into walls kills you, but other than that there isn't much I can say about the game.

aeveis 2017-12-18 04:36

Nice cohesive style, though I also didn't realize the walls killed me. I think I died the most probably from the walls. My high score was 430. I like how all the different enemies are different patterns, though in game it's hard to remember other than the fly like ones since they chase you. The audio felt really loud to me, but otherwise fit with the theming well. Keep up the good work!

magicdidac 2017-12-22 18:21

Nice entry but the sonds are a little bit loud. I miss some type of music when I played, but overall it's a great entry congratulations and good luck.

stratoskakalis 2017-12-24 14:00

I like the entry. Everything was nice and I had fun playing for the 10 minutes that i played before losing interest. One note would be the weird starting sound which totally jumpscared me :P. Other than that everything was rather pleasing and well made!
