The level in the second screenshot made me rage quit, there's way too much going on for my tired brain to handle
It was so good I had to play to the end! There were a couple levels that seemed to have a bit more stuff than necessary to solve the puzzle, and there were also a couple spots where executing the solution to the puzzle is a bit too tedious. That atmosphere was amazing though. I was fully enveloped in the game from start to finish. Nice interpretation of the theme too!
So this is clearly the best game I've played so far, not even close.
I did have to skip two levels (that second screenshot level...) and then manually skipped a few at the end just to see the ending, but will be coming back to play them later. This game is good. More levels and you have a Steam release!
Wow, just wow. That was amazing. It's hard to believe that this was actually made in 48 hour. It was so good that I actually played it from start to finish. The gameplay is great, the story is great, and the art + sounds combine into a very immersive experience. Well done! Winner material right here.
Very cool concept and juicy pixel art :) !
One of the must play games in this jam.
(it's so polished I can't even tell what to improve)
My first impression: "oh. seems to be a nice pixel puzzel game", but the story is serious and emotional. It's a very good submission!
Wow. This is really beautiful. I love the music and sound design. Easily the best thing i've played so far this jam. Doesn't feel like a jam game. Every choice feels carefully made.
The only suggestion i'd make is more contrast between the walls and floors. For a while I wasn't sure why i couldn't walk into certain tiles. In hindsight, why are there walls? Isn't the absence of a tile the same as a wall?
@toboggan A wall blocks your line of sight.
@stevenjmiller oh, that makes sense! don't mind me. :)
p.s. 'hindsight' wouldve been a good title too.
I actually followed through and pulled me a shot of whiskey everytime the game asked me too, and boy did I need it... heavy stuff.
Nice game and well thought out puzzles.
Holy crap this game is good. I like how you applied the theme more conceptually than in the mechanics. The puzzles are really great, the sound design is impecable, and the atmosphere is fantastic. I wish the later levels were a bit less repetitive though. The "forget" mechanic is very intelligent. One thing I did not understand though is why can you move over crates when walking backwards? When you last saw it was there so shouldn't it still be solid?
@gus-the-shark The crate question actually really bugged me when designing the game, as I wasn't really sure what to do with them. I eventually decided that they shouldn't push since the character would remember them being in the same position, but now that you say it, it probably would've made more sense to have them act as walls.
A beautiful game, polished with great graphics, sound design, music and mood, and of course the innovative concept of things staying the way you last saw them. I wonder why it wasn't submitted to the compo?
@infraxion It was submitted to the compo, are the rating options not showing up?
@stevenjmiller Oh it's showing up as compo now... I could have sworn it said jam before. Sorry if I got you worried!
This is incredible - can't believe this was made in 48 hours! Simply beautiful - apart from the story I'm surprised you got so many puzzles in! (Also, I appreciate the skip button particularly near the end.)
Wow.. just.. Wow. Love how you incorporated to look away so you can't see whats behind/in front you in to the story and puzzels. The music and the simple visuals just enhacne the sotry. Such a beautiful game. I skipped the last 3 puzzles. The ending oh god... :ok_hand:
That was amazing =). Great gameplay, polished, great art, and a moody story, too. Almost no complaints here =).
I found the turning controls a little awkward, I think I'd prefer just simply L/R or A/D to turn and U/D or W/S to move forward/backwards (although, of course, some people hate that since when you're facing downward on the screen, Up moves your forward which is down... but I find it way less confusing). On the other hand, every time I moved or turned instead of turning or moving, I could just undo, so I'm super glad that was there =).
Levels were all pretty great, with good progression, except 4-2 has a *way* simpler solution than yours... just, uh, walk straight to the right, taking a single step out of your way to step on the green switch (walking backwards after each switch).
@jimbly Indeed, I found that solution shortly after making the GIF and considered updating it, but decided the current GIF looked more impressive.
This game is quite impressive! I played the whole way through, and was consistently challenged. Every puzzle was very well-designed, and the game never felt too hard. Visually, the game looks incredible, and the story, music, and even game mechanics all contribute to the incredible mood you've created. It all fits the theme perfectly. Initially, I was worried about the strange controls (specifically the turning), but later on they were justified, even becoming the main mechanic. Great job!
Pretty cool! I had to skip the level in the first screenshot though.
Blew my mind. Wow!! TBH, this game is fucking outstanding.
Pretty impressive game with edge and purpose. The art is clean and sharp, and the background effects were a nice addition. Perfect ambient, as well! At first it was kinda unusual to have the character rotate before straight up going in the direction I wanted, but you get used to it pretty soon. One of the best in the "mood" category for sure.
Incredible. Very fun mechanics countered with some real somber setting. I like it. The visuals are great, simple but perfectly descriptive and helping the gameplay. Music as well, very well-made ambient track, really puts me in a pensive mood. I'm stuck right now on the level in the screenshot, but I don't want to skip it yet though! Very good work on this.
Definitely the best game I played so far. The mechanics were really well thought out and the levels well designed (even though they got a bit too complex, but I never got stuck or had to skip any levels so that's not too bad) The story was great and was really helped by the amazing atmosphere. Everything was great.
incredible game - really like the puzzles and i have added to my favorite list so that i can finish it - great job
Really incredible! What a great mechanic! It made for some really devious puzzles, but it was easy enough to grasp what was going on that nothing felt too impossible.
And I'm very grateful that you included an undo button, heh.
I really like the innovative mechanic! Very well designed puzzles and great difficulty curve! First puzzles may seem a little bit hard to solve, though.
Congratulations! As everyone said, awesome game!
Wow...this game is the real deal! Fantastic and innovative puzzles, great story, music...Yeah, well done!
Easily my favorite game of the Jam. Outstanding ambiance, brilliant mechanics and puzzles, great soundtrack, just an overall awesome game! Well done!
This is such a great entry! I love the experimental take on the "sliding block" game, you really pushed the concept far. Also want to give props for all the little things you included that really elevate the entry; I didn't use the 'skip level' button much but when I did I really appreciated it. I would definitely play a more fleshed out version of this, but as it stands it already feels complete. Great work!!
Definitely one of the coolest entries I've seen, though personally the controls were a little challenging. I would have liked seperate turn and move controls, however the existing ones are certainly useable. The levels are incredibly well made, and the mechanic of sight is really creative! Overall, an excellent game.
This absolutely blew me away, big fan of mind bending puzzles that use interesting and innovative mechanics as it's so rewarding once you figure it out! Weirdly enough, one of my favourite things was your title screen, so simplistic but so effective, loved it!
The graphics are simple and clean and the blurry effect to represent drunkenness is awesome! It did get a little distraction in the levels though, as it seemed disjointed from the rest of the cute sprite style art. But not a big deal, still fantastic regardless!
Theme seems a little loose, sure the more things the worse, but that's also down to the incredible level layouts, but still, a very interesting take on the theme and one of my favourites.
Mood by far was what surprised me the most, you didn't just make a lovely sounding, beautiful and enjoyably innovative game, but also a well told story that had emotion.
I'm amazed by how much you got done in such a short time, it's certainly the game I've spent the most time playing this compo! That says it all really... as does my ... essay...
Good job! :grinning:
Best game so far. It's amazing you did this is 48 hrs.
This is... incredible. The fact that you pulled this off in the compo timeline blows my mind.
The puzzles were the perfect level of challenging, for me. The story was... unsettling, but in a way that worked extremely well. It also linked to the gameplay mechanic really well. The theme wasn't super present, but of course it doesn't have to be. I really liked the subtle lava lamp.
You absolutely earned your win; congratulations!
