LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

PHOTOPSIA. by Simon Stalhandske 2017-12-05T23:06:08Z

Wow, that was an experience! I like how it starts with a sort of mystery, zooms out to the weird alien situation, and ends back on the robot. A strange sort of snapshot of this robot's existence, an almost-story-arc. And are the aliens procedurally made? They look proceduarally made. I enjoyed it. It was bizarre.

The Beforlorne Wander by pvtroswold 2017-12-11T19:35:20Z

Very ambitious to do a Metroidvania for a Ludum Dare game! I admire the amount of work you put into this, especially with multiple music tracks and bosses and everything. It's a little bare-bones, but hey, Ludum Dare Metroidvania. The simple style works with the single-screen navigation. The first boss was pretty frustrating, though. The thing took WAY too much damage. And, like everyone else is saying, I have no idea how the theme applies here.

But it's a pretty neat entry nonetheless, and stands in its own right.

Fish Catchers by Sinci1 2017-12-05T21:37:42Z

Simple but fair. I ended up hitting a sort of equilibrium, floundering at around 40 with no way to win or lose. I'm not sure what settings I had the sharks on. Maybe I had it set too easy?

Defend the crystal by TheMonax 2017-12-11T22:53:28Z

I had some trouble the first time I played, but the second time I realized the power of overlapping hurt zones and slow zones, with maybe a few walls for good measure.

After harvesting a bit of mana, things snowballed, and I practically carpeted the whole floor with slow/hurty areas, concentrated around the enemy spawn points. With walls around the crystal to protect stray snowballs from jumping snowmen, I had a pretty much undefeatable setup.

I eventually let the snowmen kill me, though, 'cause I wanted to see my stats at the end. 322 monsters, 228 snowmen, 5 bombs, 611 mana, 1211 points.

I enjoyed the game! I liked the variety of powers you could use in defense of the crystal. If you were to continue on it, you'd need to limit strategies like this, though.

Nut Nightmare by angrydrgn 2017-12-05T19:28:18Z

Holy crap, I don't think the squirrels even want the nuts; they're out for blood! It's pretty barebones, but not a bad entry. I would have liked a little more in the way of avoiding/fending off the squirrels, though. The little jump you get doesn't help much when you're surrounded by those little beasts. It took me about 10 minutes to beat the first level, once I realized "hey, this would probably work better if I started away from the village and collected nuts as I ran back TOWARDS it". Which did end up working. Alas, I couldn't get past the third level.

Permanence by stevenjmiller 2017-12-11T23:20:01Z

Really incredible! What a great mechanic! It made for some really devious puzzles, but it was easy enough to grasp what was going on that nothing felt too impossible.

And I'm very grateful that you included an undo button, heh.

Endless, Nameless by LeonLaci 2017-12-10T19:05:33Z

This is a really neat entry! I liked the variation in what the terribles did to the level, and the names you gave each one. The one that confused/annoyed me the most was probably "FTH Gamer", though I thought that "Beyond Reach" made things impossible before I learned about its double-jump. Anyway, I enjoyed it!

Radioactive Cavemen by deathray 2017-12-10T01:39:14Z

Hmm, it didn't really feel like what I was doing had much bearing on the cavemen, or vice-versa. After I gave up trying to herd the cavemen into the tunnels to keep them out of the radiation, I ended up hollowing out a huge cavern and filling almost every tile with fire, 'cause I couldn't think of a reason not to. The cavemen slowly did their own thing and either filled my cavern or didn't. I made it to around 30 citizens, then learned I could place fires in the sky. Then I gave up. I dunno, it seems like it needs something more. Like, it's more of a little simulation than a proper game.

Pennies Are Gold by commanderstitch 2017-12-10T02:35:22Z

I got a crash as well. I think it happens right when one of my troops runs into an enemy troop.

Pickup by Funnboi 2017-12-05T22:07:44Z

Dang, this is a really neat concept! The escalation of hazards is really well-done, and the dash allows for some very tight jumping. I ended up playing through it twice to see how the hazards affect the earlier levels I picked the first time. And I appreciate the frequent checkpoints. It's a great mercy in a game like this.

The more possibilities you have the harder it gets by ImportantCreations 2017-12-10T01:24:49Z

Interesting mazes. It felt kind of like trial-and-error at first with the warps, but by the later levels I started to figure things out just by looking for the most inaccessible/one-way warps and layer transfers and then shooting for those, working my way backwards through accessibility-based guesses. I'm not sure why you chose to have the player move like a car, though. Pac-Man-style 4-directional movement would have made a lot more sense, in my opinion.

INFINITORY by electr1ca 2017-12-10T00:42:09Z

Nice, I liked the mechanics! With some more variety in upgrades/levels/monsters and maybe a way to earn more inventory slots, this could end up a really solid game! As it is, it's a worthy entry. It got kind of repetitive once I'd gotten some gear I was happy with and figured out how to deal with the bugs, but that's excusable for a short-length jam like this. And the music was good enough company. Nicely done!

Derelict by programmersteve 2017-12-05T23:20:02Z

I guess this game is a little unfinished? The graphics seem nice, but even at the lowest quality and resolution it was still lagging on my computer. I couldn't find any was to refill my oxygen, but I guess it didn't really matter. Even with my health completely drained I still kept going. This was at least a nice attempt. What's there seems like a good start, just maybe dial back the scope a bit next time.

Escape the Deep by tgiant 2017-12-12T00:01:31Z

Well, it's a neat concept and a pretty dramatic setting, but I think the jumping/block collision is a bit too precise. Oftentimes just one mis-spaced jump would mean the end. And the player doesn't so much drown as have a severe water allergy.

I think it's a bit too unforgiving in a lot of ways that made it really hard to actually play well. But it's a decent concept and is very well presented. It just needs work.

Ice Cream Island by spaceturtle 2017-12-10T19:21:25Z

A simple premise, but effective! I liked the colorful graphics; both the 3D and the spritework were well-done and worked well together. And I loved the zoom-in on each new bird as you collected the ice creams. The played controlled a little weird, but I see you've also got an improved movement version, so I guess you're aware of this point.

And I have to share this:

ice cream island.jpg

I had one ice cream to go, and one hit left. I made a go for it, and... got hit by a bird mid-jump. And then landed on the last ice cream.

I win/lose!

Gluttony Simulator by BelowParallel_Ian 2017-12-05T22:40:31Z

Hmm, I appreciate the idea, but there's very little reason to jump around in the area you've got. The blocks aren't really in the way, and most of the food just falls into the big flat area. And no matter how big this guy got, he could still turn like a monster. Also, I don't know if this is a bug or if it's specific to my computer, but I didn't get any timer or weight score on my screen, like in your screenshots. I just played in mystery until it ended. Neat concept, but it would need some work.

Fox Flares by aeveis 2017-12-05T22:58:05Z

Very cute, interesting concept, a little fiddly, but not bad! It took me a while to connect the different levels of heat to the different kinds of blocks, but once I got that it was pretty smooth going. I also liked that fact that you've got an animation for ducking even though it has no use, heh.

Space+- by Damoy 2017-12-05T22:31:42Z

Hmm, even with your explanation of the theme, I wasn't quite sure how the theme fit. Ah well. It's a pretty basic maze game, but the jittery enemies made it very difficult to aim my precious bullets at them. It was only on the last level that I realized that the enemies actually couldn't cross the obstacles, and that the easiest way to defeat them is to get inside their range on the other side of a wall, so that they'd sit still trying to get at you.

Tail by conk 2017-12-10T23:06:46Z

You've got a wonderful feel and atmosphere here. Movement felt really nice, but I would've liked to use the mouse for aiming instead of the arrow keys. Ah well.

I found the trickiest thing was learning to conserve shots, to move carefully, and to consider confrontations before rushing in. I soon learned both that you can shoot away the walls, and that sometimes shooting walls would create what I called "wall babies", those little tiny blocks that would turn into tiny, hard-to-hit enemies. So you couldn't just run in, guns blazing, because every missed shot had the potential to make more enemies. I had to learn discretion in moving and confronting enemies, and once I understood that it became quite nice to play.

Well done!

Mountain Diver by Ithildin 2017-12-10T22:32:55Z

I like the concept here! It makes for a nice trade-off, balancing grabbing gems for profit and saving them for platforms. It's an enjoyable little game!

Ice cream stacker by DankyPants 2017-12-10T03:17:41Z

Heh, amusing concept! Oddly, I kinda found it EASIER once I got a stack of ice cream scoops going. At least, there was kind of a sweet spot before it got totally out of control. And I found the best waqy to get a good score on level two was to abandon the ice cream, and grab as many coins as I could with the cone before the game over set in, heh.

Neat idea, but could maybe use a little more "game" to it.

DEEPER by vizitas 2017-12-05T21:50:04Z

Wow, you accomplished a lot of mood with so little! Very impressive! The low visibility, screen rotation, pressing time limit and use of sounds really conveys a sense of claustrophobia, and turned what would otherwise be a simple maze game into something... deeper? And the bubbles were a nice touch, too. I /almost/ got all three chests, but the last one was in this narrow cave near the top, and I was already lugging around a huge box that wouldn't fit. I guess that's how it goes!

Far Field by Besm 2017-12-08T00:11:12Z

It's a pretty neat idea. I think I understood what you were going for, and how much you could reasonably do in a short time, but I would have liked to see some more puzzles that weren't just stacking. Still, what's here isn't bad. And you worked well with the minimal art style.

Rhythm Bandit by fashionbatman 2017-12-05T19:46:42Z

What an awesome idea! The penalties for carrying things were pretty harsh, but it fits well in this setup. Each step slower became a new level of planning. Dodging those two guards in the hallway became some bizarre intricate dance on a half-note rhythm with all the treasures. The only thing this game is lacking would be a better presentation, maybe just toning down the contrasting floor tile colors. But I'm not going to hold that against it. Really neat concept!

My life as a cat lady by Samuli 2017-12-10T18:48:40Z

Amusing concept! I loved the descriptions for the sources of new cats. I ended up giving up on cleaning the couches and bed rather early - they can only get so messy after all - and learned really late that you could double-click to run. It was a little buggy at times, though, and that got pretty frustrating in a game where you have to act quickly to cull the chaos. I had the lady not pick up tools or clean messes when she got to them, and had tools teleport across the house, or the lady grab coffee from across the house. Still, pretty fun. I got to 80 cats before animal control stepped in.

Leader's guidance by ExNihilo 2017-12-10T03:00:14Z

This is a really cool idea, but dang is it difficult! The platform collision for both the solid platforms and the machines is a little too unforgiving, and the time limit is brutal for when you have to get 5 steel bars. If I didn't see your GIF up there, I would have doubted it possible; that first bar alone eats up a good 10 seconds.

But it's a very good game, nonetheless. I liked the setting and presentation you've got. I'm afraid I'm just going to have to let the Benevolent Leader down.

Presents by gilborn 2017-12-10T00:50:30Z

Pretty straightforward. I found it kinda difficult to balance trying to get to and open presents and staring up at the sky to avoid being hit. When the gifts really started pouring down, I opted for more of a "keep running and open whatever's in my way" strategy, hoping I just wouldn't get hit. Still, it's eerily beautiful to stare up into the falling snow and see all those wonderful, deadly presents trailing up into the sky.

And I enjoyed the weird, capitalistic announcer voices, heh.

Alchegator by torcado 2017-12-07T22:01:48Z

Neat puzzle game, but very cryptic! I love how little you start with and how much you can end up making from it. I managed to get to the end, but I never made the charcoal (?) needed to make what I assume was the last hint sheet. I also found a bug, I think. I tried fusing two sheets of steel together with the fire and ended up making a mirror. I wasn't sure what happened at first, then realized I'd need both metal and glass to make another.

Anyway, I quite enjoyed it!

Pigeon by RIBOUT Horace 2017-12-10T01:47:51Z

Darn that back-talking crow! Nothing's ever good enough for that guy!

Simple enough, but once I learned how to eat crumbles like a pro, the other birds couldn't even TOUCH me. And is there any reasoning as to how long a given day is, or is it just one more random variable, like the number of rival birds or crumble density?

Birden by Logan 2017-12-06T23:29:33Z

@lieropart Thanks! I actually didn't know there was a way to include images aside from the cover one. I've added one now.

Bearhalla by madjackmcmad 2017-12-10T01:08:43Z

Dang, this didn't seem to recognize my PS2 controller as a dual-stick thing, and I couldn't wrap my head around the keyboard controls. I think when I selected a direction to shoot, I think it'd shoot a bullet first, then adjust to the new angle? This ended up killing me several times when I got the rockets powerup.

I don't think it'd be fair of me to rate this. It's a shame I couldn't play it properly, 'cause it looks fun.

The burden by mathijs750 2017-12-05T23:35:46Z

It seems nice, if basic. Got a lot of atmosphere to it. I'm not sure how the burden of collecting these things is supposed to manifest... the more you have, the harder it is to see, due to the glowing? Unfortunately, the more of the thingies I collected, the worse the slowdown was on my computer, even at low settings. But that's probably just my computer. I got to a big glowy thing up some stairs at the end, and then an opaque white rectangle appeared and obscured all but the top and bottom of my screen, so I'm not sure how it was supposed to end.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Bonbon and the Deep Below by ColinBellino 2021-04-27T20:57:07Z

The presentation is excellent, but the game is a little basic. And I was having odd issues with the controls, using the keyboard at least, where I had to release and hold down for each time I wanted to punch downwards. Still, a decent game, and I admit having the blades so close over my head every now and then did get get my heart pumping.

Pokefish : Gotta flash em' all ! by Legolula 2021-04-27T21:12:06Z

I love the concept here, and the little sub-view in the corner's such a neat idea, if a little fiddly to get right. I'll agree with the consensus that it could use some polish, but what's there is a nice start. I liked how you could use the sub's own lights to navigate, in addition to the lights balls, and I liked the oppressive feeling as you dove deeper.

Dig It Out by Threaded Lama Digital 2021-04-27T20:38:20Z

Heh, nice interpretation of the theme. I enjoyed it; even though there wasn't a lot to the gameplay, I liked watching the story unfold, and all the little background details made the forest and the little community seem very alive. And I always chuckled at Earl's "Waaagh."

A Fairway Down! by Haydads 2021-04-28T04:15:35Z

A solid little 2D golf game, and I think the theme fit in quite well. I got 83 hits.

Badger Break-In by Knatt 2021-05-09T04:13:11Z

Eh-hey, a fellow Fusion dev! The character and animations are really great! I really loved everything about the badger, and the chamele-gun is a neat idea! It's pretty clear you ended up running short on time; I had a look through the source and saw the other powerups you didn't get a chance to include. Still, what's there is a pretty solid start!

Ocelot Safari by pancelor 2021-04-28T21:51:26Z

botched safari.png Aw man, I was so close! SO CLOSE! Then I got careless and trapped myself... The mechanics took a little while to get used to, particularly dragging and swinging the tools, but once I got the hang of it, I was able to bushwhack through the wilderness pretty handily. The ocelots running off with your tools was a nice, frustrating little touch, and I learned to keep a close watch on my belongings before too long. Being able to trek back and grab a spare worked well with everything, too, with a nice element of risk to the ever-growing trip. I ran back to grab a new axe once to return to find my matches missing. Anyway, a lot of cool and creative mechanics here! I enjoyed it!

Not So Grimm by Rongefilet 2021-04-28T03:55:57Z

Very peaceful. I loved the look of the vegetation, and the way it would gradually transition to a thicker, then stranger forest as you wandered. I managed to find just one denizen.

DAD48 by Patrick Premartin 2021-05-12T23:35:15Z

Simple, but not bad. It took me a while to figure out the ghost powerup. Even though you put it in the instructions, I thought I was just teleporting randomly at first.

Theodores Tumble by headchant 2021-05-13T00:13:22Z

@mduo13 , I haven't gotten as far as you at level 12, but I've got 230 health, 220 energy, and $160! And I think I've reached the point where it's difficult to lose, heh.

Anyway, it took me a few tries to figure out this game, and a while before I learned to play more contemplatively and to prioritize the full health and energy fills. It's really enjoyable; the mechanics are solid and you're constantly assessing risk/rewards on the map, and the music is such a perfect backing to it all. Nicely made!

The Thoroughly Examined Life of Forest Animals by PostFrog 2021-04-27T21:28:00Z

I'm gonna need a few pointers on how to approach this game. The text adventure staples like "go" and "look" and "talk" don't seem to do anything. I'm able to navigate to the four areas and wonder about the sun, and I've gotten so far as to see a picture of a guy doing karate, but that's about all I can get. What kinds of words should I be trying here?

Sporelunk by Brainloaf Studio 2021-04-27T21:40:27Z

Haha, good lord, that was some kinda bizarre trip. It's very polished, and solid. And very hard. I love how you can see and hear the distress in the mushroom's voice, sobbing as he digs for his life and tears apart the little mushlings. He doesn't want to be doing this. He HAS to. He has to survive. To flee from that... thing. Very cool.

Lost in Thought by Maple 2021-04-28T22:27:08Z

That rotating mechanic made for some very creative platforming challenges. You really have to twist your mind around a bit to get it. I enjoyed it! Nicely done!

Poss Loot by Guax 2021-05-13T01:03:47Z

Oh hey, I recognize you! It's a nice simple little game, and the character is wonderfully animated. I'll echo the previous comments that a little more feedback to hitting blocks would be nice, and a few sounds would go a long way. In any case, nicely done!

Sized Bite by davision 2021-04-29T01:39:13Z

Wow, this was certainly a trip! It was a lot of fun just playing around, trying to slip through various cracks and holes, seeing how deep things get. And there's a lot of depth to explore! At one point, I decided to shrink down and explore in one of the cracks in the floor tile to crawl underneath a wall. And I ended up in some kinda empty chamber? Probably something beneath one of the buildings. And when I went through a keyhole to end up in a room between two doors with no easy way up to the keyholes, I felt the dread sink in... and then glitched through a wall to freedom, I think?

It was a really strange and wonderful experience, on the whole! I loved it! Also, how many golden teeth are there total? I found 81 before stopping.

Fallumns by Logan 2021-04-27T20:17:39Z

@exewin Thanks! This is actually an idea that's been rattling around in my head for years as a "huh, that might be neat!" kind of thing, so I don't actually remember what the inspiration might have been, haha.

Fallumns by Logan 2021-04-27T21:16:43Z

@yaboycj @threaded-lama-digital @fran-gambero , I do hope you guys stuck with the game long enough to see the "twist", 'cause the game definitely ties in with the theme! You just have to let the game introduce a few new pieces to use...

Fallumns by Logan 2021-05-18T22:30:38Z

@caeonosphere Haha, I doubt it's gonna happen, but I appreciate the optimism!

Fallumns by Logan 2021-05-23T19:09:16Z

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate everything you've all said here! @albertnez @tomssuli Oh dang! I didn't even consider something like that could happen, but it seems pretty obvious now! Sorry about that!

LD23 — Tiny World

Planet Trot by Logan 2012-04-28T04:56:00

Well, it was made in Multimedia Fusion 2, and the code is really a mess, so I'm not sure it would actually benefit anyone...
I guess I could still throw it up there, though?

Anyway, thanks to all who have been enjoying it, even if only for the funky fake 3D planet effect. I kinda went into this project with no idea what kind of game to make, spent some hours getting the planet rotation working, and ended up with no idea what kind of game to make. I actually gave up a few hours from the deadline after I couldn't find a way to make it fun, only to scratch a few things together (like a win/lose scenario) at the last minute and submitting it anyway. So... sorry the game itself is so bland.

But at least the planet looks nice.

Planet Trot by Logan 2012-05-12T05:02:00

Is that what that's called?

Anyway, this is my first time attempting something like this, and I couldn't get my head around free movement on a sphere defined by latitude and longitude. So that's why it's so awkwardly limited.

LD25 — You are the Villain

Dig for Me by Logan 2012-12-18T02:18:00

Heroes will show up eventually, but will be more drawn to the place if it's more notorious - that is, if it's got more deadly traps and monsters. Placing a trap is a little confusing: you have to be holding against a wall tile (or floor or ceiling) and press Space to open the menu. But if that's not working, then I don't know what's wrong...
And digging yourself is supposed to be slow. Digging is HARD, man.

Anyway, thanks to all so far! I was running out of time at the end, so that's why there's no sound, or proper ending, or sense of balance. I could also see it working well slower-paced, or multiplayer...

Dig for Me by Logan 2012-12-20T17:26:00

Oh dang! I had no idea that source was required for this!

It's no problem, of course, but I won't be back at my own computer until tomorrow. But I'll upload the .mfa as soon as I'm able.

Dig for Me by Logan 2012-12-24T23:36:00

Ha, nice!
They may not be the smartest bunch, but they sure can be industrious when they put their minds to it.

And thanks to all who have been enjoying it!

Cave Kappa by sockfolder 2012-12-19T02:15:00

I really liked this! Once I learned how the different people reacted (the guys venturing away from bloody spikes became a pain), I really got into the puzzles.

Who stole christmas by StMatn 2012-12-19T02:35:00

Neat little game. It's got a sort of exploit, though. Since doors aren't counted as rooms, you can just stand in a doorway and be completely undetected!

I did enjoy it, though. The "never be in the same room" is a neatly-defined rule for a stealth game.

Power Grab by Milo 2012-12-19T03:05:00

I like the idea that each powerup you take will end up making things harder for you down the road. It's a neat concept.

Sixxy the Puppy by vandriver 2012-12-22T04:40:00

Oh wow, did not expect that ending!

This game is great! It's a very cute concept, and I enjoyed the whole "figuring out the whole point of it" way that it starts. Very well done.

LD26 — Minimalism

MinimizeArt by ahm99 2013-05-01T02:47:00

Time when I finally managed to beat it (all paintings): 42.

RPS RTS by Logan 2013-04-30T01:23:00

Aw, I keep getting this complaint. I thought the three shapes were a really logical representation of Rock, Paper, and Scissors. The triangular blade is the distilled essence of the Scissors' sharpness, the stoic circle a monument to the Rock's solidarity, and the square... is... well, just paper.
I guess I was wrong, though.

RPS RTS by Logan 2013-05-01T02:51:00

I accidentally found a typo-class bug right after submitting it that caused the AI to not get any smarter/faster per level. I corrected it, but wasn't able to play-test all the stages again. So the last one ended up a bit too unfair, I think. At least, I still can't beat it.
If you want a bit more of a chance, open up the data.dat file in a text editor, go down to stage [8] and change the rate value from 15 to 20.

Space Jellyfish by [-BipolarDesign+] 2013-05-01T00:39:00

I love the feedback that the layered audio gives. It really makes a difference.

Desire by burtlo 2013-05-04T06:28:00

You did a great job setting the mood with this one. With the sound and the movements and the lines that thing says... It comes off as so creepy and needy, and yet I'm the one leading it on...

Essential by Dieresis 2013-04-30T01:58:00

Nice.
When I fully understood the color properties, priorities, and dragging mechanics, I came to see how complex and precise the stages really were.

Supersto by Firefly 2013-04-29T18:23:00

The concept's kind of neat, and I can see it leading to some very elaborate puzzles.
The dude is way slippery, though, which was particularly frustrating on the first level.

Also, before I knew what I was supposed to be doing, I managed to push the first level's small box into the foreground where I wasn't able to touch it. Just thought you should know.

Potato Gnomes Online by EpaceGames 2013-04-30T03:55:00

I actually managed to find two other players! Even if one of them disconnected partway through the second level, leaving us unable to jump.
It's a neat idea when it works. It would benefit from each role being a bit more fleshed-out, except that would kinda go against the theme.

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

The Show Must Go On by Sestren 2014-04-30T00:53:00

Okay, this is pretty awesome.

There is a lot to remember and keep track of at first, but I was able to get the hang of it pretty quickly. It would be fun if the play had several different scenes to it (and additionally confusing), but what's here works well.

And I love that you can spectate the results.

Treasure Orgy by NukeTheBunnys 2014-04-28T22:38:00

It's not really much of a game, but it's somehow very satisfying to collect all those little dots.

Sir Face goes Beneath by wolfgang 2014-04-29T21:08:00

It's a solid little puzzle game, once you actually figure out what everything is/does.

Depth Factor by Biliogadafr 2014-04-28T20:52:00

Oh man, that'll teach me to play before reading the controls!

I played through the whole game without knowing about the rifle or the jetpack. It was a tedious trial of first fending off killer hamsters with just a drill, then of drilling into a wall to create a safe passage, then of learning I could sort of wall-jump, and finally reaching the surface.

Then I saw the controls and just jetpacked all the way to the top.

Not bad.

SunkenTreasure by bakpakin 2014-04-28T20:26:00

It's got a nice feel to it. The controls felt really smooth once I got used to them, and the music bits added to the atmosphere.
I think I would have liked some indication of how many air tanks I've bought (they felt like they were doing something, but it was kinda hard to judge), and a bit of an invulnerability period would have been nice (the first time playing, I was going back to the surface with the treasure when I got pinned between a fish and a jellyfish. Instant death sentence), but otherwise no complaints.

Also, I found it amusing how you could by first aid kits to raise your health above its original amount. Does he use them preemptively, or does he start the game wounded?

That, and jellyfish jumping playfully out of the surface.

Underground by Nnoel 2014-04-30T01:34:00

Ha, I recognized the cgMusic-generated song instantly! I didn't know anybody else used that thing!

I really enjoyed the tradeoff nature of the upgrades. I got to level 17 by the time I died, and had picked up every upgrade I could get to. And ended up with a multi-splitting, multi-piercing, multi-exploding monstrosity of a weapon that knocked me back faster than I could run.

And I'd have it no other way!

Focus Shift by ForeignGuyMike 2014-04-30T01:12:00

Solid little concept. Nicely done.

Tunnel Defense by steve 2014-04-28T21:13:00

What an intense feeling! I loved the mix of running for your life while trying desperately to come up with a good defense tactic.

Where Is My Bone? by Ellian 2014-04-28T21:24:00

Ha, I love the story in this one. And the graphics are really cute!

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Fluid Perspectives by Jezzamon 2014-08-29T00:45:00

Cute and well implemented! There were some pretty nasty puzzles in there for what simple elements were at play.

A Galaxy United by MarekkPie 2014-08-27T02:44:00

A decent and proven idea, but the implementation needs a lot of work. The movement/control/platforming was fairly buggy, and I couldn't seem to clear a second level after finishing a first (like, the exit wouldn't work).

Dreamshift by AgentParsec 2014-09-03T03:22:00

It's a pretty neat concept. I got a little freaked out just from reading your gameplay description, heh... I really liked how different the dream world felt once the stress level started rising. You pulled off a very nice transition between a happy, ethereal rest and... something very wrong, and very dire. The music for it was most excellently done.

Unfortunately the platforming itself was a tad buggy. I stopped after missing the same jump a second time because for some reason it didn't register the key press (or something). I really liked what I played of it, though.

Just an Otter Game by Logan 2014-08-26T23:30:00

The theme should become apparent by the second level. How far did you play?

Blue Rays by KEFIR 2014-08-27T02:07:00

I liked the feel of this game, moving around and between the different planets felt nice. I think it could have used some more puzzles, though.

But I do like the prize at the end, heh.

Multifaceted by Riley Adams 2014-08-27T01:57:00

Very nice feel. For some reason I found it extremely satisfying to dive through the portals. It would have been nice to see a lot more variety amongst dimensions, though.
Also, I totally recognized the song as cgMusic-generated, with its inexplicable love of long drum-rolls.

Grow by Sigrath 2014-08-29T02:42:00

This is pretty charming. I like how much you can actually do with such minimal control. Once I got the hang of it, I started trying to see how many different endings I could actually figure out. That fourth one is pretty tricky, but I did ultimately get it.

Bouncy Box by rqbrt 2014-08-27T00:31:00

Kind of a neat concept, but the physics-based movement doesn't really do the game any favors. I think something more platformer-standard would have been a better fit for a game that requires such precise movement.

I had to give up at level 5.

River bank maze by reecpj 2014-08-29T00:04:00

A bit tricky to understand, but it makes sense once you've figured it out.
The marsh tile is totally overpowered, though.

Double Dimensions by Hail_Pizza 2014-08-27T00:46:00

Kind of neat. I think I would have liked more enemies/reasons to switch dimensions. As it was, I could just stick within the shooting dimension comfortably.

Return Door by GlitchPulse 2014-08-27T01:50:00

I think I would have liked a little more direction. As far as I could tell, the only way to tackle the puzzle was trial-and-error.

Through the Mirror by cleitoneldorn 2014-08-27T03:19:00

It's not a new concept, but you've pulled it off really well. The whole game had a really mellow feel.

Unfortunately, the music you used doesn't qualify under the Ludum Dare competition rules. All media used in a game must be made by the game's author within the time limit.

Spaceway Transportation by CodeNMore 2014-08-27T03:02:00

A little basic, and a bit unforgiving.
The enemy ships were kind of a pain to deal with, and it felt a little unfair that the asteroids wouldn't affect them at all...

A Game about Making a Game by rlangewi 2014-08-27T23:55:00

Ha, that's pretty genius! I'll admit it got a little tedious towards the end, but the concept you've got is wonderful.

Disconnected Keyboard by Aomeas 2014-09-03T01:19:00

This is a really clever concept! I thought it was just the right level of challenge, and was surprised at how many levels there ended up being. Nicely done!

Symbiosis by vividhelix 2014-09-05T02:00:00

Hey, you asked me to let you know if I wrote up a post-mortem of my game, and I just did so! So, here it is: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2014/09/04/just-an-otter-post-mortem/

Lost Connection by breskin2000 2014-08-29T03:53:00

What the heck did I just play?
For anyone else having trouble with this, press ESC to get past the first screen.

Once Inside by TautNerve 2014-08-27T05:28:00

A nicely-presented little story. You really nailed the mood.

Philip the Fox by Xenolupus 2014-08-27T01:23:00

Cute, but the platforming was rather unforgiving. The last two levels especially were overly-strict.

Dimension Jumper by Jace_Fyrestorm 2014-08-27T02:48:00

Decent idea. Solid concept. For some reason, your choice of what number meant what color made perfect sense to me.

Collision by Alphish 2014-09-03T02:59:00

This is a really neat concept! If you had had the time to fully flesh it out, I could see this being a really solid game. I also liked the different musical channels for the different areas. It was a nice detail.

Once I got the hang of how things worked, it was slow going until I got the R+, then things started falling into place. And once I found the Y+, it was just cleanup.

The final puzzle was a nice touch. I was totally confused about how to start, until I remembered the coordinates on some of the pieces. It was quite satisfying to see all the worlds fit together so neatly...

Anyway, nicely done, and some great potential here!

Journey to the 5th Planet - My first Ludum Dare! by KevRevDev 2014-08-28T01:30:00

I kinda didn't think much of the game at first, but the platforming ends up really solid for how simple it is. I like how you played the strengths of the different planets' qualities. Though following the low-grav blue planet with the high-grav red one is a bit cruel. Just when you've gotten used to the floatiness...

Is there a hidden dude in each of the planets? I only found two.

Smart Home by Garrett Hoofman 2014-09-04T05:46:00

Heh, I could see this being pretty neat with a comprehensive enough group of people and tasks to tend to. As it is, you can learn the guy's pattern pretty readily and keep him satisfied.
Still, not bad for the time given.

MMOCRAFT - A CONNECTED WORLD by jdavidson091 2014-08-27T02:33:00

Goodness, this is kinda depressing...
Well, it's a good start for what it is, and the message gets across. It would have been nice to have more of a progression, some manner of storytelling and an end.
Still, not bad.

Space Kittens Will Not Save The World by Praron 2014-09-04T06:19:00

For some reason, I just could NOT wrap my head around how to properly move around. I did manage to shuffle through it, but had a lot of difficulty with level 5.

Nonetheless, it's a really novel concept, and it's pulled off very well.

Andrake by suzicurran 2014-09-11T01:14:00

Thanks, Traumendes_Madchen, I wouldn't have found the Windows link otherwise! For those interested, it's https://www.dropbox.com/s/u5emkui3bffg66f/Andrake-1.0-win.zip?dl=0

It's a charming little pair of stories. How many endings are in the game? I've found three so far...

Wormhole Escape by Orz 2014-09-03T01:37:00

It didn't feel like I had a great deal of control over the villagers' survival. Even if there was a shot about to hit one, it wasn't often that it seemed like I could save him. I ended up with 2 villagers about 6 or 7 levels in, and managed to keep the pair of them alive until that game crashed at level... 15, I think?

Dimension Plane by TBSHRichard 2014-08-29T01:28:00

Wow, THAT was a lot to wrap my head around. I can only imagine it must have taken a lot of thought to play the progression of this puzzle, and to make sure the player couldn't get stuck.

I was grateful that the two dimensions were forced to align at the screen edges.

LD33 — You are the Monster

SnakeLike by Logan 2015-08-24T15:25:00

Atrylo, there shouldn't be any real "stuck" situations in the game. If you're against a wall, you can turn in place 90 degrees to bite any nearby enemies, if you get stuck in non-wall obstacles (like rocks), you can actually break through them with a few chomps, and in the event that you trap yourself somewhere with your own body, well... you can even bite through that, if you're ready to make the sacrifice.

SnakeLike by Logan 2015-08-29T01:20:00

Thingo, did you extract the files before playing it? The game needs the data directory and its contents intact, or else the enemies don't load properly.

Monster Pizza by dalbinblue 2015-08-26T13:02:00

Really fun concept! I loved the graphics, especially the nervous expression on the monster's face. He looks so concerned!

I think I would have liked a little more indication of where I was delivering to. I eventually got the hang of it, but if the delivery areas would have flashed, it would have been really clear what I was looking for.

Monster Nom Nom by carloso 2015-08-27T17:24:00

Simple, but cute.
Wasn't this a Kirby minigame?

The Werewolf Among Others by arzi 2015-08-27T21:54:00

Ha, I managed to wait around on the ending screen until daytime. The I changed back but the pink wolf didn't (though she got the villagers' ! over her head like she noticed me). At that point, touching her could kill me, so I just kinda shoved the hunter out of the way.

Then I waited until the next night, when we could finally be together! So I approached her, and... slew her where she stood! Oh, what a twist!

Ha, anyway, I enjoyed the game! Most adorable 16-bit werewolves yet!

Moon werewolf by Rongon 2015-08-24T09:01:00

Neat idea, but there's nothing stopping me from just wolfing up, taking out a single citizen, and then hiding again immediately. Maybe there could be some sort of incentive to getting multiple kills in one wolf-run?

And the guards seemed to have a very short memory. "Oh, he went blue. He must be a normal citizen."

Caught in the Web by Doccrazy 2015-08-25T12:03:00

Really neat idea! It was a little tricky to get the hang of it at first, but trying to come up with a good, sturdy web ended up being a lot of fun.

I'll agree that the game should have started with a level with more abundant webs, to give the player a better chance to get used to things.

Perspective by ChuiGum 2015-08-27T16:22:00

Yeah, the jump button isn't working for me, either. Additionally, I fell through the floor and died during the tutorial bit.

No idea what the cause could be.

Werewolf by Markus Brand 2015-08-24T09:54:00

I'm afraid your links don't seem to be working for me. I'll check back later.

Antimon by ViKing Games 2015-08-27T17:02:00

A simple concept, but executed really well! I love the amount of variety in all the different texts.

Also, that minigun is way overpowered.

Chicken Girl in Toyhouse! by LevieDAudio 2015-08-25T12:18:00

It seems like it could be a neat concept if it were better polished, but the collision is so buggy that it's really difficult to play. I had it freeze a few times such that I could only close it by killing its process.

But it's a promising start. The player graphics are cute and the way the music changes when you're a monster is a nice touch.

MEnotaur by Luthwyhn 2015-08-24T14:42:00

Goodness, that's bizarre to behold in action!
It would be neat to see a full, playable game that uses this kind of thing, but I applaud what you've done.

Eat Sheep & Die by Conk 2015-08-24T10:34:00

Cute graphics! It's fun running around as a wolf at the beginning, but man, that camouflage becomes such a liability...
As for bugs, I think I found a big one? You can eat corpses over and over and they'll still count as fresh kills. So you can keep getting easy points.

With a little more balance and purpose, I could see this being pretty solid.

You are the Monsieur by GhostBomb 2015-08-25T09:46:00

Heh, short, but solid! The graphics are really charming; I love the subtle mustache bounce.

Lardum by Grahhhhh 2015-08-31T13:18:00

Ha, cute concept! I love the idea of changing the narrative based on just the one simple decision. Well-presented and enjoyable!

The Devourer by bwafflecone 2015-08-26T13:17:00

Cute concept, but fairly buggy. I could start eating something on the bottom of the table, then click on the top and start eating something else at the same time. Or else click on the ham and then the bed, and have the ham magically eat itself while I would lie there, deflecting attention.

Still, I like the idea.

Shadow Wolf by Open Rift 2015-08-24T09:51:00

Neat little puzzle game.

Is there an end to it, or are the levels being generated somehow? 33 nights and 96 sheep in, I finally hit a situation I couldn't get out of.

Prowl by HThomson 2015-08-24T10:44:00

I think a little in the way of landscape/terrain could have gone a long way. It kinda felt like I was just floating in a void a lot of the time, with only the pinpoint beacons of the sheep markers to judge any movement.

Sasquatch Loves Soup by lulublululu 2015-08-27T17:20:00

It's really nice, but I have no idea how to judge the quality of the soup. The family seems to react the same if I go out to both the first two levels and chuck everything in as to just putting four shakes of salt into an empty pot of water.

Back for Dinner by Thomas Olsson 2015-09-01T10:46:00

It was a little tricky and a little buggy, but you accomplished a LOT for the time limit.

It took me many days to realize that the "evolve" thing at the top of the evolution screen was actually a button and not a banner. I was stuck becoming an incrementally-better grub, asking "okay, when are things supposed to change?"

The randomness of things was a nice touch, but could be a little unfair. I was stuck with a hunter right away the first time out of the cave. You can imagine THAT didn't go well.

Really good overall, though!

The Slime's Journey by VDZ 2015-08-25T09:27:00

Heh, I really enjoyed this! I loved all the little details, like how you can equip a flower, or fight a sandcastle. I think the only gripe I have is that there's no way to back out of a new mutation if you select that, and there's no way to see available mutations otherwise. While getting vampirism ended up being a good development, I would have liked the option to refuse.

I ended up spending 111 turns before I faced the fateful adventurer. I almost felt kinda bad, dealing 90 damage a turn...

Monster Discrimination Simulator by yokcos700 2015-09-01T10:07:00

Ye gods, this game is hard. You managed to get a lot of challenge out of a really basic set of rules.

Who knew being a monster was so tough?

Knights And Knights by nicso 2015-08-24T10:57:00

Man, who knew these monsters would have such a tough time fending off someone so killable as not-Arthur?
This is a really fun idea, and you pulled it off well.

It's just... really difficult to kill off so many not-Arthurs.
