@pnghasemi Ah, the links expired, my bad. I re-uploaded them to another location, should be up on the site in a minute or two :)
@ilseroth ha yes, we had a hard time finding a hitbox that would "feel right" for that poor penguin. I think maybe making him rounder like other sprites could have helped in this regard but we ran out of time hehe.
Thanks for the feedback. Glad you liked the "wenk" button :)
@taikuri Thanks so much :) We had plans for more sacrifices for game mechanics like losing sound effects or music, removing the source of lights, changing the player sprites and so on. But well, to sacrifice these features we first had to code them haha, so that didn't go so well :D
@bitdecay Oh, i didn't even notice the rendering order by you are right haha :D Glad you still enjoyed it, i'll look out for this for the next one. We wanted to make some more levels and planned a simple boss but had to kill this dream on the last day to focus on polishing the loop we already had.
This was challenging, a little repetitive, but fun ! Loved the artwork, audio and humor.
Let's be real though, you were the one putting Nickelback on, right?
Wow, this concept is so good! The art is cute and well done, the audio was nice too. Well played.
I like the idea a lot and the art style is really cute! But i think i'm missing something about the gameplay because even with the fire shields, most run won't last longer than 20-30 seconds for me, there is way too many projectiles for me. With some re-balancing it could work great though !
Very nice entry ! The audio made the whole thing "click" for me, it made the mood :D The visuals are lovely too!
I was surprised that the upgrade didn't do much for me, i hoped for a big changed but i'm still not sure what i got?
I also struggled with the controls of the game, until i realised you could move with the arrows haha. Just a friendly reminder that a lot of people can't use WASD for base inputs due to keyboard layouts being different in other countries (it's fine for a jam of course) :)
Overall, you did a great job on this game !
I liked the atmosphere a lot and art a lot ! Nicely done.
The visuals, audio and mood were really well done! The art is really polished makes me feel really cozy (and threatening when it needs to be). The audio was pretty good too and contributed to the happy mood. Good job!
Like others have said, the camera is your worst enemy in this game. I think the main issue is that the camera lags behind the slurpy way too much, affecting controls and making the movements feel imprecise and unfair at time.
Side note, but i found myself not using the keyboard at the beginning of the game and was surprised when i had to press a button to advance to the next level. Maybe a left click you work here so the player doesn't get out of "the zone" when doing good on the game?
When you work 3 days straight, you tend to finish with weird commit names like this :o commits.png
@sami i think that's fair, we should opt out of the audio category since we used some premade bits. I'll update that.
@tyrael @helenejeanbon @zoglu Thanks for the feedback <3 We definitely wanted to add more levels with a better difficulty curve. We are looking into adding more levels in the following days (i need to check the rules to see to what extend we can do this).
@ben-newington Glad you liked it! You are not the first one thinking this game could use a scoring system, it's going into our [backlog](https://trello.com/c/JpKSJcJT) :)
@artyom-volkov The selected cell changes color when you hover a tree you have placed (from red to blue), but the change is way to subtle i think, you are right :( Thanks for the feedback!
@grizzliusmaximus) Thanks ! We wanted to start with flowers that burnt quicker than trees but had to cut [that feature](https://trello.com/c/CYxtWX6P) to focus on the core and polish. But if we make this into a fully featured game that's definitely something we will add :)
@lucidus Oh, great idea. I think this build could work on mobile with some minor tweaking, i'll look into it \o/ Thanks for the follow too <3.
@daxic Ha yes, that's a good idea for advanced gameplay if we can add it later down the line. Thanks :)
Thanks everyone for your feedback! We definitely wanted to add more challenging levels and mechanics but something had to be cut to make the deadline :D Anyways, this is really encouraging and we will be thinking about making this into a commercial game later down the line. <3
@stevenjmiller thanks for the feedbacks ! Thats absolutely something that we want to fix later down the line :)
@01010111 Thanks ! We have a lot of mechanics ideas to extend the game if we go turn this into a full game and are exciting people liked what little we had to show for LD :D
@levlaj Haha, reading your comment really made my day, thanks so much <3
@wavewava we had some feedbacks about this, we are fixing it in the next version :) Thanks for playing out game.
@jin9310 thanks for the kind words ! I'm currently working on a full game based on this prototype, and we will have way more levels and interesting mechanics this time around :D
@sztrovacsek thanks for the feedback, i'm working on adding more levels soon-ish :D
@elysiagriffin no, thank you ! It was a blast seing you play it on stream :)
@kaisean-games hehe yeah we prioritized the polish over the level quantity for the jam version. Will definitely be fixed in the full release ! Thanks for the encouragements.
@invader the instructions were added as a last minute fix hehe. We were not sure if players would understand the main mechanics, most people did though. I'm not a big fan of text tutorials and i generally go for a more hands off approach. I like to let people play around with the game in easy/tutorial levels so they understand the mechanics by them self. It's absolutely someone i'm adding to our feedbacks list though.
For the right click, that's a really good point, not everyone can right click on their touch pad. That's an accessibility problem i'm going to fix in the full release for sure !
Thanks a lot for the feedbacks.
@ellian thanks for the feedback ! This is exactly the kind of things i'm working on to expand the game into a full commercial release <3
I liked the idea of sucking ghosts with a vacuum, even if i don't see the relation with the theme (yeah it's optional, fair enough i can respect that) :D.
The arcade machine feel was a nice touch, but i found the gameplay / physics a little too frustrating for me to be honest. I think this is because i had to spend a lot of time waiting for the ghosts to get sucked in by the vacuum in my playthrough ?
@christina-antoinette-neofotistou ah yes, i gave it another go on another machine and it went smoothly this time. I guess it was an issue on my side, my bad. Updating my vote :)
I get strong Pac-Man 2 feels from this one, that's great haha :D The art is killer and the audio nice too. <3
The only issue i have is with the font that was hard to read for me (the fact that i didn't get the fullscreen to work on the web version didn't help for this). Maybe a more readable font and bigger size would be best for accessibility ?
I'm not sure if i'm missing something here but the battle doesn't seem to work on my side. Nothing is happening when i click the attacks button? Even if a little outdated, the idea to protect the princess fits well to the theme :)
Oh by the way, i think you should add some screenshot to your game's page. I noticed it helps quite a lot receiving feedbacks on the site. Games with no image tend to get unnoticed :(
The ending had me shouting, well done :D Overall great game, i had fun.
The sound effects (especially the gun) could use a little more juice i think but this is a game jam so we all understand haha. Also, i totally forgot that you could jump until the last wave :o Giving more reason for the player to jump in the early levels and to not shoot would be nice! Cheers
What a cute game ! The audio and art are great, nice job.
The game felt really well polished, the audio and art are on point, good job ! πΈ
I'll need to try this with a controller, it's quite hard for me with the keyboard. I think restarting the whole game is really punishing for a death, but maybe it's just me ? Holy shit, just saw this was a first game jam for most people on your team, that's even better !
I liked the mechanics a lot but i think some of the timings were too short and punishing for me. Maybe i'm just not used to play platformers with keyboard.
Anyways, it was a great idea and the execution was well done :)
Love the idea, felt like an escort quest but good haha. Really cute art too ! Would love to see this turned into a full game with more levels, audio and even cuter bird !
I felt really bad when the small bird died π... At least until that level, you know the one.
PS: seems like there is an issue with the source code link not working (the URL is still readable though).
"I donβt even know if you can die right now" Oh you can still die alright, just got killed for speaking in the wrong language i think :D
Love the art and polish on the UI. Really confused by what the buttons do though, maybe it's missing some tooltips. Still pretty neat though :)
I like the idea a lot, being on a ship that's going to s*** feels appropriate right now :D The gameplay is a little repetitive after the first level though, adding more mechanics (other than the repair) would be nice.
The audio had me laught out loud, damn you Zoidberg !
The mood and audio was really well done! At first it felt weird to run through ghosts to make them disappear but once you get the hang of it, it works :)
Most of the time i found myself really far from the camp when the fire died because i didn't know the rate of decay. Maybe some kind of UI would help to understand the mechanics better. I did like the grid based movement though, i think that could work nicely for this type of game.
Loved the art and calming audio in this game. I never thought burning squirrels would be so satisfying xD
Glad to see we were not the only one building a game about burning things haha
Took me a while to realise you could move the additional shields with the mouse, haha. One you get the hang of it though, it has a nice rhythm to it :D
The visuals and audio are really well done too ! Great entry overall.
@valkija We definitely planned to have more complexe puzzles but ran out of time as usual, haha. Thanks for the feedback!
@notinatal Ah yeah, the yellow on white isn't visible enough, thanks for pointing that out.
@abvadabra Thank you! <3
@melvinng That's a good point, we didn't spend any time thinking about the story since we changed the theme midway through the jam. Thanks for playing our game.
@prodigysp Oh no, sorry about that! Thanks for reporting the bug π.
@adiwan That's fair, i think the timer on a puzzle game is not something i would keep in a final game :) Now i'm mad that i didn't think of advancing the timer only when moving / doing an action, that would have been nice :o
@witekwitek Thank you <3
@div00 Thanks for the feedback. I'll definitely be checking out your implementation then ;)
@croxel-studios Thanks! i only wished i had more time to make the art more polished, this is basically the first pass and didn't get to make it "shinier".
@elemel Ah, branching paths and more actions were planned but had to be cut to ship in time, you know how it is :D I think you are right though, the timer isn't adding anything to the game in this state. Thanks for taking the time to play our game and give us feedbacks!
@kvinster Thanks for your feedback! The "timer" processed don't require you to stay near them, but we added them last minute and that's not explained in the game :(
@zashers @anomay @tamail Thank you very much <3
Oh my glob, this game is great!
The art and audio are great and make the ambiance so right for the game. Couldn't finish it because my keyboard layout didn't work great with the game (azerty) but it's great nonetheless. What an awesome job <3
Loved the idea and execution <3 The art and audio were really good too. Overall a very solid entry, great job!
I did have an issue the first few tries because i kept pressing space to continue at the end of the level (since it's used in menus to confirm/continue). Maybe that's just me, but the "screen shake/flip" (for a lack of a better word) was too much for me and distracting / disorienting at time. I think an option to turn it off (or down) would be great if you plan on working on it later, though i understand not adding options like this in a jam :)
I really love the iso art, it's not often we see it ! I liked the style and audio. <3
The mouse only inputs is a nice touch but in my case it made it difficult to move around precisely because of the small window i was stuck into (i couldn't go full screen on windows).
@conduit @firas-mourad @augcart @ryan-dotsikas Ooooh, thanks for the Bonbon love <3 I think we might release sketches and timelapses soon, so stay tuned!
@ryan-dotsikas We had to sacrifice the last pass of level design so we could ship in time unfortunately. Glad you still enjoyed it to the end though. ;)
@logan Oh no, i hope the awkward keyboard controls didn't make you too mad, I'll have a look into this and see if i can fix it in future builds! Glad at least the blades did their job :D Thanks for your feedback!
@loig Thanks so much for the feedback!
For anyone interested in the art style for the game, @lauradp wrote a nice blog post about it and posted some sketches here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/bonbon-and-the-deep-below/the-art-of-bonbon-and-the-deep-below
@batjak03 I think adding some momentum to the punches/dig animation might totally be a nice thing to add in a later version (post jam of course). Thanks for the feedback, really appreciated!
@squeele Thank you! We would love to make more games for jams together so stay tuned ;)
@todward Oh no, hopefully not too many bunnies died :3
@raptor851 Oh yeah, that's a good point. This is absolutely something we will have to fix on later versions (post jam of course).
@eugenik @cannocchiale Thank you so much!
@tanner-shelton Looks like you uncovered the super hidden "hard mode" on windows :D Glad you had fun still!
@zeha Thanks for feedback, very appreciated ! The controls are definitely something that I would have loved to spend more time on.
@superjai Thank you :)
Holy frak this is impressive, especially for a compo! Well done!
Does this bunny have a name ? :D
A super polish game overall, nicely done! The art and audio feel super nice and i enjoyed it a lot. The color palette options was a very nice touch too.
The difficulty was all over the place (for me at least), some levels were a breeze while others took me a super long time with some unfair obstacles that i couldn't see before it was too late.
Damn, that last phone message felt too real! Interesting concept overall.
This is such a great game, especially for a compo! The mood is super chill and relaxing and the gameplay simple yet super engaging. My only pet peeve is that it's very hard to play on large screens due to the lack of fullscreen option (as far as i know?).
This is a super great entry overall, nicely done <3
Cute art style and music, overall pleasant vibe.
I think maybe this would work better on a grid based movement, some of the movements felt kind of janky at times, making it difficult to see where you would end up. Also, i might have missed something but i didn't see when we would go back to "walk mode" so it made it harder to plan my movements.
@tomtomgome Thanks for the feedbacks, much appreciated! We patched the audio after reading your comment :) (and i think the die and retry bit is very fair, this means we have to do better on the puzzle side next time)
@fishtaod Oh no, sorry about the crash. Thanks for reporting it, i'll try to have a look asap, the native builds should work better in the mean time. And cheers for the kind comments :)
@rongo-matane Thanks a lot for the feedbacks, don't worry about being a little harsh, this is exactly the kind of criticism we are looking for ;) To answer your questions, the orb were planned to act as keys unlocking the exits, but this is not working currently (working on a fix right now).
Lovely art style and mood for this super interesting game. I like the risk/reward with taking on new people with you and seeing a slow impending doom always creeping behind adds a lot of tension.
I had some audio hiccups on the browser version but overall i ran smoothly. It was fun and made me want to go back at it just after my runs, so thank you for making it ;)
The art style and visuals are great, if a little lacking on the animations side. I'm not sure if this is an issue on my side but i didn't get any sound effects so it's missing important feedbacks during the game i think.
My biggest gripe with the gameplay is that it's very difficult to play on a non US keyboard layout (which don't have WASD for movement) and lack of gamepad support.
PS: I think you forgot to flag your download as "windows executable" on itch, making it impossible to download through the itch desktop app (https://itch.io/app).
Loved the take on the theme and the interesting gameplay loop ! The aesthetics and audio had it's charm also, though the rough transitions in the music made it kind of jarring at times. I've had some issues with the controls where i kept restarting because in my mind R is wired to "reload" action games haha.
Thanks for making this game !
I loved the cute aesthetics and the music was very fitting (the whistling killed me haha). I was not expecting the mini RPG battle scene to pop on screen so this was a nice surprise too!
On the gameplay side i thought it was overall pretty solid, though maybe a little too much dependent on luck at time ?
Love what you did with the title, wording on the page and overall vibe around the entry ;)
Thanks for making it! It was pretty fun <3
@joe-cowman @khill @nicorm @david-york Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! π¦
@cover-club-media You can dash through the enemies to heal/feast on them. I think we did a really bad job explaining this in the game though.
@alekm Oh no, you should totally feed on the priests! You just get less health from them but you still get some ;)
@cyangmou <3
@onezerox @atom @cosmicallity Hehe thank you ;)
@max-hyper Ah yes, we did a poor job at teaching this mechanic in the game for sure.
@fromage @kaljal Thank you, we definitely were inspired by Isaac a lot for this one ! :D
@polymathld Ah yes, the first level was supposed to teach you about dashing through enemies but i think we didn't do a great job at this! Probably a text explanation would have worked better like you said. Thank you for the feedbacks (and for playing) <3
@vivyhasadream @allax Thank you so much!
@daveco Glad you liked the idea of the health ticking away ;) Thank you for the feedback.
@sleepystudios Ah yes, i think the difficulty curve could have definitely been better, especially because we changed the levels last minute haha.
@emaigualmc2-art I agree the gameplay could use some work and depth if we wanted to continue working on it. Thanks for playing and getting us some feedback!
@evan-minto Thank you for playing it and for the feedback, appreciated ;)
Hey everyone
So sorry we were kinda burned out after the jam and i totally forgot to check and answer the comments/feedbacks.
I'll try to take some time to answer every comments when i have some time, but in the meanwhile thanks everyone who posted for all the kind comments and feedbacks !
See you, in space! :rocket:
First of all, thank you all so much for playing our weird little game <3
Common issues: - Ship hull/health: the ship has no health, only the cargo, you lose if you lose all cargo. We didn't make this clear enough in game, sorry that's on us. - Regarding balance & difficulty: we fixed a huge bug in the game that made the game way harder (and boring) than it should have been: you didn't gain money during waves :/ Please give it another go if you felt the balance was off in the initial version! *Pssst! If anyone ask, you didn't hear it from me but, i heard if you press F1 you can aquire some goods to make the trip easier on ya . ~ Cap'n* - Post-jam version: we are currently discussing a post jam version of the game with more fleshed out features and gameplay, so every piece of feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks!
@paulhocker Ahah yes, we were supposed to be able to move/upgrade your turrets during the waves but that ended up being cut :o
@bigtex Oh no, i'm not sure what happened but the current build should have fixed most bugs, give it another go ;)
@nuin @rjdrag @hatheus @python-b5 @tomtomgome The timer was bugged and the ways ended up 5x/10x longer than they should have :sob: It's fixed now so give it another try if you can ! We couldn't touch anything else in the wave (balance, etc) because that's out of scope.
@quinnbalkwev Hehe, glad you loved the voice acting, it almost got cut last minute :D
@hatheus Thanks for the choice of location idea, we might just do that in a post-jam version! :D
@chancea Oh no, that's an unfortunate bug to encounter, i'll add it to the bug list in case we do a post-jam version. Thanks for the feedback/report!
@tomtomgome I'm glad someone noticed the localisation :P The ship menu was also fixed ;)
@the3rdhunter We ended up fixing a bug that made so you didn't gain any money during the waves, making it kinda dull, sorry about that. Also, the ship menu was fixed, thanks for reporting it!!
@raptor851 Thanks for the ideas/feedbacks, we are thinking about doing a post jam version, so it's very useful.
@kujoen Honestly, we totally forgot about plating until it was too late haha :D We will definitely keep the feedbacks in mind going forward, thanks a lot!
@owlycode Oooh yeah, repair all might be a good upgrade for later, thanks for all the feedbacks, appreciated. PS: team laser ftw
@jin9310 Thanks for playing, but say goodbye to that build, if we end up working on a post jam version of the game, lasers are getting nerfed for sure haha :D
Lovely game, the art, music and overall vibe is super cute and it feels good!
The unusual control scheme made it an interesting play but the stamina and collisions made it a little frustrating for me to play. After a while i remembered that we regain stamina while floating though :D Also loved the custom cursor that made understanding the movement a lot easier ;)
Thanks a lot for making it, enjoyed it a lot ! <3
Nice small game, loved the cozy art style!
Some pieces of feedback: - I found it hard to identify what could hit you at times (ie: buildings) - The missed packages sliding on the ground was a nice touch :D - Missing a building and not being able to go back was rough (because the screen scrolled too fast, i'm not sure?) - That end screen was great haha, i killed so many people with my reckless flying though :sob:
Thanks for making it! <3
