I loved the game. I had a lot of fun playing it. Audio and graphics could use a little bit of improvement, but really, it doesn't matter. I've gotten addicted to the game and I believe it has potential. However, it's not fun getting hit by lava lamps, and the funky hitboxes make them almost impossible to dodge. Especially when the short-sighted "terribleness" is also active. Overall, outstanding game though!
It's a solid concept with a lot of potential. Enjoyable to play through. I hope you go back to the project to polish it.
Loved the lava lamps. It has a cool concept, but it lacks at detail. With some more work on audio, graphics, a real time HUD that show's your actual coins and terriblenesses and the level you're in, the game would improove alot. Overall the use of the theme is creative, and it was fun to play!

Thanks guys!
@mighty-chebo will definitely come back to this project and make a better, bigger game.
The game and theme match very well, had a great time playing it, and I have the music in my head, it is so catchy
Great job working on this game, I really did enjoy playing, and I do agree with @matcheryt that the music was very catchy lol
Great idea, and an okay execution, but when I got to the second terrible, i couldn't move. Also, the art is mediocre, and the audio is the same.
Scratch that, the "Can't move" Was on purpose. I got FTH gamer and didn't understand. Great execution, great game, so far.

Awesome concept ! I tought it was going to be a random platformer but it turned out really well. It fits the theme perfectly and it is really well executed. Some curses were really fun (fth gamer was my favourite) and it's a really good thing that some of them are pretty forgiving(old school gamer).
What bothered me the most were the controls/hitbox. Spikes were the worst for this, sometimes I barely touched them and died, sometimes I had still some leeway and died. If you come back to this (as you said you would) this is first thing you should check.
Congratulations on the entry.

I love the concept ! Managing penalties affecting controls and/or level. I unfortunately encouter two game stopping/breaking setups the two times I played it (Spikes and short jump).
This is more likely a problem of balancing the game (and this is the real pain during a jam), but you showed how this could work, and it does. Congrats !

Thanks!
@zeantwan when you have short jump you can double jump

The game is cool and it is a solid classic platformer, although, as said before, it does need a lot of polish, and I think there is a reason for that - you've picked a content-based idea in a game JAM, it is very clear that you've worked hard on creating different types of terrible, when other aspects should be worked to create a neat game core. Overall, the game is nice, but I do not think you came with the best idea you could.
Like your idea! But the spikes are awfully annoying as you die even though you barely touched them... Also some situations are impossible to win, at least I think so.
This was very cool. I managed to beat it after restarting once (I thought FTH terrible was a bug at first, lol). The main idea is super creative, I liked the experience of running through the level each time with new twists. The only complaints I have are two: the music is way too repetitive. And I really wish the levels didn't take as long as they did to restart. But that second one might just be my computer. All in all, great job on this, I really enjoyed it.

Quite enjoyable to play, really.
Some balancing may still be needed, of course. As already mentioned, short-sightedness and falling lava lamps do not blend well together because they add some unwelcome randomness. I would also have preferred a slightly lower character acceleration, to allow for tiny positional adjustments before a jump.
Anyway, all in all I had a good time and the difficulty for buying the time bandage felt just right.
My take on the theme had some similarities with yours, yet the games themselves ended up being completely different.
Innovative idea and fun to play. I like that! Some movement graphics and Esc for close would've been cool though.

This was a creative and interesting idea, however one thing I found confusing was the green floor at the bottom. I thought it was an area that should be avoided (like an acid pool) since it was a different colour from the rest of the platforms, but later I figure out that I was allowed to walk on it since I saw a terrible with a dog running around there.
Overall its a great and interesting idea with lots of potential!

Very nice! I like the core game and level progression, I would have preferred to play the set of levels one after the other, with the side option to disable the terribles. I thought the puzzles had good variety though, and liked that it centered around one same level.
What an innovative idea, well done. Some animation for the character would be nice though. The game play is solid, but sometimes it's hard to judge the characters collision box size. especially after the spikes. - Pro tip for the future: Always make the character collision box sligthly smaller than the actual character graphics, that way it feels more fair for the player and makes the game play more enjoyable. It also it makes the character feel more like a part of the world when it's legs actually touch/sink a bit into the ground.
I really dug this a lot. I've rated about 20 and some of them were much more advanced graphically but yours might be my favorite so far. You found really nice ways to set limitations. I loved the double a triple jump that's actually necessary in order to perform a single jump, lol what a twist! I was praying for a traditional double jump, then you gave me what I prayed for but not what I had in mind lol and then you tripled it... so good. My only suggestion would be that a little more variety in the levels would've been good. Maybe an extra coin if I go out of my way which would help offset the, I believe it's a, 1:1 ratio? Each level gives 1 coin? I might be off about that. if it's not the nevermind. Great job! Wonderfully executed 72 hour jammie jamz! On the second or third level or fourth, the screen froze and blacked out, I minimized the screen and it kind of reset itself so I could play as per usual. Then... at 11 coins I had all handicaps rippen! With the theory that I would get more coin with more handicap or something. The game said Fith Level or something annnnnd crash. I think it was triggered by the fact that I had reached full handicap and never once paid to remove one. But Idfk and have no clue. Just thought you might want to know. Could be anything. Mac download.

This is a really neat entry! I liked the variation in what the terribles did to the level, and the names you gave each one. The one that confused/annoyed me the most was probably "FTH Gamer", though I thought that "Beyond Reach" made things impossible before I learned about its double-jump. Anyway, I enjoyed it!

That's a great idea, letting the player influence the level design and thus the difficulty curve. However, there's almost always one terrible that's clearly the most annoying/challenging one, and allowing the player to eliminate it so easily makes it somewhat less interesting (if I'm not actively encouraged to keep the game difficult, I'll make my life both easier and boring). The graphics are charming (although a simple 2- or 3-frame walking animation would have been nice) but could be a little more consistent with the UI to create a better general appearance. The music works quite well -- I expected it to become terrible as well. Like I said, awesome comcept, I had fun playing, thanks for making it!

It reminds me of the game "that level again", for Android.
Some "terribles" were really annoying, like the one with the lava lamps - it was just a matter of luck. The spikes' hitbox was too big, which made them a little unfair. But overall the game was entertaining, and i was interested in seeing all the different terribles that you had implemented. It'd been nice to have more variety too, as i was getting some of them all the time, but i guess you'd have done it with more time. Good job!

Playing the game was a blast. I managed to beat it! Woohoo! Really liked the idea that you get those artifacts so it got harder and harder. The game feel polished, however, I would love to see animations for the cat. Anyway, very good job!
Really cool concept! It is really intresting and the terribles keep the game intresting, needs much better art though. After 4 terribles though I got a terrible called "FHT Gamer" or something close to that I didn't really see. But I couldn't move my character anymore and I couldn't ESC out of the game. Not sure if the ESC was a bug or you just don't have ESC to quit out as a feature but I had to WND-D. Strange bug but the game was cool. Maybe to make the game even better change up the actual level itself aswell, like move platforms etc.

@jack-maxwell the FTH gamer isn't a bug. Instead of using arrow keys you use FTH keys to move around.
The game is intended to have just one level 😛

Very cool concept! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXJ9_qM1iLA
