Is the game even playable at this point? I just figred out how to walk.

Is the game even playable at this point? I just figred out how to walk.
This game feels extremely polished - while playing I actually forgot it was a Ludum Dare entry! Sounds and graphics are top notch, the characters and notes are hilarious and the puzzles work really well. At the beginning I needed a moment to figure out the game mechanics, but reaching Fleur I finally got them. From a storytelling point of view, I was wondering why I was fighting all these "people" and how that would recover my basketball. Also, how their boredom came into place. Was I fighting just to grab their attention? But that's a minor gripe, because the game as a game feels absolutely complete to me and the only thing I wish there was was more. Like I said, I entirely forgot it was a Ludum Dare entry and was a bit sad when I reached the end so soon (though it actually has a good amount of content!). That's why I immediately played it a second time, just because I didn't already get enough out of it! I love it and it's definitely one of my favourites!
I like it's easy gameplay alongside a seemingly endless complexity. The Tutorial could have been briefer but i'm delighted that you took the time to create a comprehensive story.
Another Spacenanny <3 <3 <3 This game is fantastic! Your beautifully drawn story-comics alone already killed it for me. The graphics are amazing and the music engaging. I really enjoyed the playthrough! The only improvment I can think of would be some smooth music for the comic scenes and cute sounds for these adorable aliens. Very good job guys!!
The idea is pretty dope! You mixed some interesting and different mechanics, awesome graphics and cool music together and created a pretty cool game. Feels polished and is fun to play. At the beginning it was quite challenging to understand and not die or lose your hats constantly. Would have been a bit easier to get started with maybe more than 1 life and an option to skip the dialog. Apropos dialog: I really loved the intro. Short story presented in an interesting and clean way without losing much time. Good job guys!
Style and ambiente are very great and sounds fit nicely. The gameplay is missing some goals.
Wow, really cool idea! You also captured the retro feeling really well! Your game feels like what I always imagined the old Windows 98 screensaver to be like plus the amazing idea regarding the theme of the jam! Graphics and sounds are really, really good. Walking around, picking up items, fighting - it all felt really well done. I only had some problems with flickering pixels everywhere on the texture borders.
Wow, this game looks professional! Well, I guess it kinda is :D Awesome graphics!
The gameplay is really too simple and after reaching 3000 points I lost interest. Still, I couldn't stop imagining how much fun I would have actually playing this game with VR glasses in that little rocket instead of virtually on my PC. So yeah, after writing this and reflecting on it, I increased my rating because it fits the theme so well on a meta level! Sweet job!
This game is extremely polished! I only wish, we would be able to insert coins to progress further into the game :D Really, the only gripe is the use of the American style keyboard in the buttons used. We could not figure out how Player 1 jumps. It was still playable though. Great fun!
Nice little game. Love the different ending screens (deaths included). The music is also really cool, if a tiny bit repetitive, but I'll consider the time limit here ;) Though the principle is simple, exploring different endings keot me engaged. Well done!
I liked the premise of this storytelling game and all the quotes about money you implemented. However, after the "I should seek the buffletaur" message started to appear all the time, I couldn't bother to finisch the game, because it was just a giant maze from that point on. I'm kinda sad I didn't find the buffletaur. I'm sure I missed something. But it became too tedious. Maybe you could start the maze earlier and make it a lot smaller?
Fun game. Reminds me of that tank game from Wii Play. Multiplayermode would fit excellent here ;-)
I can start the game, but the main character is just flying in the air next to a coin and I can't move. The music (which is amazing, by the way!) is playing, but no input is producing any results. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?
I use Windows 10, there's nothing special about my PC. It's weird because I already played some games made in Love and never had any problems. Hm. I guess I'll try to test your game on my other notebook another time.
No problems running it on my notebook. Strange.
Back to the point, I love your game! The mechanic feels fresh and is the perfect metaphor for capitalism. You have to wait for the right time to make your investment to maximize profit. The messages between levels were hilarious: "You did a detestable morally wrong thing. Yay!" Graphics are simple but work really well, the soundtrack is simply incredible, sound effects for coins are cool, too. The only thing that could use improvement are the physics, especially jumps are a little hard to control. But apart from that, a truly great entry!
Like others said, the game needs some balancing, but as it is it is really fun to see all the options you implemented! I had some good laughs and felt quite bad about the way you earn money (in a positive way, of course)!
Flashy lights? What about flashy music warning? :D Loved it! You created a hilarious but still fun to play game. btw right missiles are left missiles flying backwards? Have some flashy trashy points for that folks <3
Game is broken, wasn't able to make my purchase. Now the one time offer is propably expired :(
Wow! Best game so far. The idea is fantastic and fits perfectly with the theme. Music and sounds are good and all necessary features (restart, return to start, instructions, goals to reach) are included. It soaked me in until I solved the last level and that's, over all, what a game is about. Good job guys!
First of all I have to say I love your title card! The whole game feels really old school. Like something you could play on an Atari. Maybe it is the sound effect and the strange atmosphere evoked by no music and eerie enemies. I like it. However, since the controls aren't explained, I needed some time figuring out what to do - I could hear the feedback of the jump, but couldn't see my character. Needed a moment till I started using the A button :D
I really liked it! My only gripe is that it starts out really slow. Could get harder earlier.
I accidentally posted this twice. Is there a way to delete posts?
Man, what a silly little game! Graphics, musics and theme all work hand in hand to bring a big smile to your face! The controls are fun in their clunkyness, though they still did not feel as "swipey" as I imagined the situation.
I like the style and concept. But for this to be enjoyable to me the zombies would need bigger hitboxes. Most of the time it is quite hard to hit them. This is problematic because while you miss a zombie you are sure you would have hit, all the others approach further. To compensate, I frantically mash the mouse button to hit a zombie, which is quite exhausting.
I needed a moment to figure out how to even start the game. It is a bit counterintuitive you have to hit a button several times in a menu. Graphics and sound are really cool, gives the right feeling! Combat works well and feels good. The enemy generation is a cool idea and works well. However, the same tactic worked every time for me, so fighting became a bit repetitive after a while. I stopped at around 50 mutation. More variety would be nice. Maybe more easier enemies for a round or different mutations? Or some obstacles in the arena.
All in all a really solid entry!
A bit hard to understand as already mentioned above. But after I realised how it's supposed to work, I have to admit, that the idea is quite amazing. Some points: What is the goal of the game, when it only ends when we lose our points? Maybe add a max points reached display. And is there a way implemented to stop the cats from destroying our work? I'd be a bit frustating if it'd all about buildung something up to be randomly destroyed. But you said it, it's still in progress, and i hope you keep on working on it since it's idea is fantastic!
Not sure how to run it. The images look nice though and the sounds are hilarious.
At first I was annoyed I couldn't zoom out, but it actually enhances the gameplay because you really have to look after them and not only over them. Captures the feeling perfectly! The artstyle and music are great, too. This is an amazing entry! One of my favourites!
This game oozes style! The animation is superb and the characters have a lot of personality. I especially like how scared and uncomfortable the friends are compared to Kim's boldness. You really have to fight for them! The feedback for hitting also works great. That little freeze moment makes your punches really count. Of all the games that went with the "unwanted guests at a party" theme, this one is by far the best! It is just plain fun. Very good work!
You not only manage to make the game harder for the player, but simultaneously also make him feel worse for killing ever increasing amounts of cute little bunnies. Still, you have to partake in this mass murder or humanity will either starve or manmade mutant rabbits will claim the whole world. So the more humans you have in nature, the worse it is for every living thing. I love this interpretation of the theme! It is so cruel yet so fitting. And the game plays really well, too.
Innovative idea and fun to play. I like that! Some movement graphics and Esc for close would've been cool though.
Moving around is really fun! So much fun, in fact, that I often kept running into the guard's detection cones because I didn't want to stay in place to study their movement or use the sneak button :D I would have preferred for the cone's hitboxes to be just a little smaller - the edge is faded out but you lose once you hit the first dimmed pixel. It was hard for me to get used to that because it seemed a little counterintuitive. Oh, and at first when opening the safes, I thought I had to collect the coin that is shown above them and then waited till they vanished. I think the minimalist style suits the game quite well. Nice entry overall!
Great idea and the execution is on point. Unfortunatly, it gets a bit humdrum quickly
The gameplay seems to be a bit unfinished; The inventory for example didn't change during the game, and nothing happened after remaining time hit 0... But: The creative design is awesome. Interface looks cool and so do the planets. The lifeforms are magnificent and the music creates a great atmosphere. Adding spacenews is creative aswell. I really liked the narrative intro. That is very special.
A real gem! Though graphics and sound are simplistic, they give all the feedback you need. I really love how you are thrown into the game and naturally figure out what to do. Even more, you actually managed to create puzzles that are challenging but totally solvable with the skills you acquired in earlier levels. Love it!
The idea feels really fresh, I've never seen something like this before. The art direction is also amazing! I feel like Professor Plutonium creating the Powerpuff Girls. Love it! The only thing lacking are some stakes or some kind of goal. Maybe the customer gets annoyed while his time is running out? But all in all it is just plain fun to play your game!
Great implementation of the theme! I like how upgrades that are beneficial at first lead to your eventual demise. The game stopped for me when it zoomed out so far, the whole screen was black. I could still shoot, but didn't lose health anymore. Do enemies still spawn at that point? Also, personally I find the gun sound rather annoying. But overall it's a really fun game! The cartoony graphics are cool, too.
The Windows version didn't work. "Data folder not found. There should be 'StrandedLD40_win_Data' folder next to the executable". Besides "StrandedLD40_win.exe" the windows .zip only contained the folder "__MACOSX".
Again, it's one of those games that let you forget you play a Ludum Dare entry. It feels just like a real NES game! Well, no, it doesn't really, because it degrades to creepiness and that was quite unexpected (didn't look at all the screenshots). Great twist. To me the wall jumping felt a bit unintuitive and some jumps next to spikes were really hard. But it was manageable. The graphics and music are absolutely stellar. Great entry!
13 days after first playing your game, the song still gets stuck in my head from time to time. And I played it only twice! Amazing work there! It's so catchy and pushing and dynamic. I love this song!
The whole art direction is sooooo good! It looks really polished! I like the escalation from a single joint. Great humor! The hitboxes could use some tweaking. Also the spawning of syringes and bullets without prior animation sometimes produces sudden deaths that feel a little unfair. Oh, and you can run of the map on the last level. Maybe it was just my fault for being on speed and not seeing the LSD the first time. But all in all a great entry!
What more is there to say than that this is simply beautiful? I felt like a child again while fiddling with this tiny world.
Great art, great music, great sounds, good gameplay, an incredible number of levels (considering the timeframe) and a fresh puzzle mechanic make for a really good entry! Well done!
I really like this take on the theme. You created a game with simple but beautiful art and fitting music. But it is the story that makes it truly amazing. Every character adds to the poignant tale resting on a fundament of morality to let Aatmo become an engaging game. I love that you went with it and made the largest difference between 0 and 1 soul! The endscreen is finally just the perfect cherry on top.
Didn't understand everything , but the idea is interesting and graphics look fantastic. Got stuck in the doorway at the end.
A bit to hard for me, but the music is dope! Which tool did you use to make it?
Your game basically is too hard for me, but I still tried it over and over till I finally managed to beat it just because it is so much fun! The graphics and especially the character models are incredible. It already feels so complete, the missing sound SEEMS like a huge contra, just because you forget it was made in just 48 hours by one person. Feels like a small team worked weeks on it! I still can't wrap my head around that. Awesome work, definitely one of my absolute favourites, if not THE favourite!
I love the feeling this game evokes. Even though the characters have no movement animation, everything you see on the screen feels really warm and lively. The sweet interior of the room is lovely. The Advent wreath is an especially nice touch! Though the gameplay might still be lacking (I have to agree with everything Dogydogsun stated above) I still enjoyed my time until I decided to throw myself into the Roomba to see the Game Over screen. Nice work, keep it up!
Nice game. Feels pretty well-rounded. Since all you do is shooting, i'd suggest to make enemies harder and farming faster to have rounds be shorter.
Nice work! I like how controls and shipmovement feel. I can imagine that a 2 player versus mode with serious space battles would fit fantastic...
Good idea and nicely implemented into your game. Getting started was quite challenging and could be a bit eased as @beepyeah and @tmpxyz and others already pointed out. Overall very good!
I agree the super reactors could have been explained better. I looked into the comments to find out I indeed had to build a dangerously large cluster. The audio is really good! The voice was quite unexpected, but conveys the feeling of imminent danger pretty well. I like the moment you lose control over your arrangement when all the messages start to pop like crazy and everything turns red. It's the good kind of expanding chaos that motivates you to do better the next time. Nice game!
I felt like Stealy from Rick and Morty's Interdimensional Cable TV and appropiate sound effects and phrases played in my head all the time - it was a lot of fun! The Menu is AMAZING!
The Artstyle and animation is cool. The one song is cool, too. Graphics were glitchy for me though when the goblet appeared and the chests reappeared after taking the swords. Also pressing up initiates some kind of weird jump animation? Do you actually just walk left and then it ends? Or did I miss something? It does not really feel like a game to me.
Your graphics look very cool and gameplay is smooth. Music fits well and controlling the car is comfortable. The music is cut off a bit harsh when the game ends and having Restart on a keyboard button would be nicer.
No idea how to rate mood and fun with them nopes; Those spiders freaked me out... Gameplay lacks of goals and music would be nice (some low and dark sounds would be enough for a ominous mood). Graphics however are very well done!
I really like the look of your game and it fits the theme nicely. Good ol' Windows asking me if I want to use Caps Lock made me lose the game ;D Maybe somthing other than shift would be better.
Nice and functional running game. I love how you actually slowly get your clothes back :D Levels are a bit too long for my taste though, since they don't feel different enough. Maybe shorter levels would have pushed me to try again to see more clothes.
Neat! The newspapers were hilarious. The chair right to the fishtank in the 6th (or 7th) level glitched me out of the walls.
I love how running around feels in this game. Yes, the floor seems to be slippery, but to me this added to the "ferretyness" of the game - instead of being just a random jump'n'run character, Sprocket felt like something different while weaseling around the station. The station itself felt a little empty and linear and on my first playthrough I encountered a weird bug where the robot at the end of Level 2 fell through the floor and I could not jump over that small gap. The second time he behaved normally.
The art direction is really cool and I especially like the music. Good job there! Nice little game, keep up the work!
Made it to the end :D Cool game with great graphics and music. I imagine that a minimap which reveals itself when you walk around would be sweet. Collectable items for velocity or oxigen boosts could be a cool addition, too. Keep it up guys!
The game seems really incomplete. After the story part I fought a random guy and then I just slowly walked around and nothing happened. Did I miss something or was that just everything you were able to implement? However it may be, the title screen background is INSANE! :O
Really great feel of being responsible for handing the right stuff! Gameplay is also surprisingly fun. At first I was confused by the "conveyor belt" at the bottom regarding the theme of this game, but I figured it is supposed to be you sorting through all the stuff in your backpack? Or is it random loot lying about? Since the game can be quite hectic, it is hard to read through the stats and notes on the right side of the screen while playing. But well, having a more tactical approach would be a completely different game and I like this version very much!
The Game looks and feels really good! I encountered a weird bug in the first gargoyle room after I died twice (we did nothing special, took a barrel of mead from the machine and then shoved it into the Lich. Then we died a second time): On respawn, my radius was really small and decreased upon collecting further coins. Dropping them increased the radius. The enemies stopped moving altogether and I only took damage through fire. I just walked on then to see were the game leads and was trapped in the golem room because the gate would not open. I just wanted to report this.
I really like the game though and will try it again!
The game looks really good and the basic idea is really cool! I collected 4 of the treasures, but didn't finish the game, because it randomly kept teleporting me back. I'm totally sure it wasn't because of spikes or stalactites. Also climbing the rope was a bit awkward, because most of the time I jumped straight through it, before I was able to grab it. Also I needed quite some time till I noticed you could climb through the block above the rope. The hitboxes there could need some tweaking.
It's kinda Geometry Dash, but graphics and music are cool and playing is fun. At the beginning of each level could be some free space - got a bit stuck perma-dying in some levels :D
Wow, it's tremendously fun! It is also really hard, however, I still managed to hit 51% of notes? :O I love the presentation. What's happening on the upper screen is especially nice. I would have liked to be able to join in on the longer notes after I missed the start, but that's just a minor gripe :)
Typical seagulls - when ice cream is lying about they don't care about it, but once you have it... I LOVE the zoom in on the seagulls! It didn't get old by the ninth one (I couldn't beat the game, sorry), but instead got ever more intense. Nice!
Made me addicted way too fast. Excellent graphics and nice balancing. Music or sounds at least would have been cool. I could see a multiplayer and some new designs for stronger boxes. A save-current-game option would be cool for the addicts among us... Thumbs up!
Awesome idea! I didn't quite understand when a game is supposed to end and how to get back to the start, but while playing it was really challenging and fun. I imagine a beat being constantly played would make it a bit easier and more energizing.
I needed some tries till I figured out how to even beat the first five ghosts of the first wave. Then it was spike traps all the way. This served well, for a looong time till the old ghosts started to appear. Seemed like a random difficulty spike. The game could need some more balancing and maybe could be a little bit faster.
But oh boy, do I love your artstyle! It's so simple yet so amazingly cute and childlike I immediately fell in love with your ghosts. In fact, I saw a picture of your game while scrolling through the Ludum Dare feed and it directly inspired the art direction we went for with the title card of our game! Even though I knew from the start I couldn't match the cuteness of your masterpiece.
Sweet idea and cool graphics! It's missing some sounds or music tho
Wait, is the flower pot alive???
Thank you very much! At first we wanted to give the babies more needs and different ways to take care of them (maybe have some multi-tasking exercises to do on the keyboard) and also wanted to add a shop or level up mechanic to add more and more features the further you come and the more babies you have to comfort. But 72 hours is a short time as we had to learn. But with plenty ideas we are excited to keep up the work!
We set the resolution to a fixed value of 1366x768 and unfortunately you can't change that as of now. We are really sorry you are not able to enjoy our game.
Thanks for the kind words, everyone :) Regarding resolution problems, we added a note to the description. Thanks @goffmog and @shephard-joseph for the (possible) solutions!
Thank you all for your nice words <3 We never would have expected such a response to our very first game :)
We are aware that the gameplay is really too simplistic at the moment, but we are working on it! In our vision there will indeed be different ways to tend to the babies @icxon, like feeding, petting or singing. There might be skills and upgrades in the future (like the toys being purchasable and having different effects or nanny upgrades). Maybe some mini-game-like tasks like preparing food will be added. Daily tasks in the form of parental instructions could add some story. Multiplayer will definitely be added. And of course there will be more babies. It will all take some time because between the four of us, only 1 can properly code, 2 guys are artsy guys and the fourth basically just made a single screen and then cooked spaghetti for us during the jam. But be sure we are continuing development of our game!
As of now, there are only 7 babies, so you will see nothing new after day 7. At first, we had a daily increase in difficulty, but it felt too harsh, so we cut it out. However, that made the game a little easy in the end. We should have just added a "Congratulations, you kept the babies happy for a week!" screen, but well, we just didn't have the time to further playtest it.
Again, it's really encouraging to see all your positive reactions and your feedback is greatly appreciated <3 Thank you all so much!
Nothing new or innovative, but looks and sounds good and is reaaaally fun to play! My high score is 392 points. I'd wish for some more features like weapon upgrades, but then you already stated yourself you'd like to improve there. So just keep it up! :)
Great style, great gameplay! Unforgiving last level :D
Veeeeeery original, but seriusoly, you implemented your idea really well! The game looks really good, controls smoothly and generally feels good to play. This is an amazing feat considering the time you used. I'd have loved to play some more levels.
That was pretty good!
Wow great idea for a game!
This game is just awesome!
This is quite amazing and totally unexpected. Great writing and mood!
I have a feeling it might be a bit long for most players because you certainly don't expect that much story for a Ludum Dare entry. I got hooked, though.
Wow that's amazing!
@optimans Thank you! You can try the desktop version. They are much more stable.
We try to fix all bugs later in the post LD version and we hope to have a more stable web version when Godot 3.1 comes out :)
@digitaldude555 You have to collect 3 roses from the rose bushes and give them to the princess. Do this 3 times to win the game. When the princess is in panic, move towards her to cut away the briars under her or throw a mushroom on her.
@mero Can you be a little bit more precise, please? :)
@mero Thank you! Yes, the game is completely keyboard controlled. If you have trouble with the web version, try the desktop version. There are some bugs as well, but it's more stable, because the Godot web exporter is not that good at the moment. And we wanted to implement a tutorial etc. but we ran out of time on that. If the princess is in danger, she has a panic animation.
@leviathon Sorry to hear. Maybe you can try the desktop version? Or just restart the game. Maybe it's a rare bug.
@eryph Thank you! We know that the game is not polished and is lacking some in-game-instructions. We had not enough time to add these features. But great that you enjoyed the game anyway :)
Nice little game! Great mood :)
Nice idea! :)
Nice little game!
Totally bonkers in the best way xD
Great entry that feels quite polished! The artstyle is weird, but quite cool in a very unique way. Gameplay is fluid und works quite well. What I loved the most about it was the amazing sound design - really drives you into that arena fught frenzy!
Very well done!
Thank you so much, everyone! Your words mean a lot to us
We released Version 1.1 today (for the remaining duration of the jam it will stay download only to not influence the ratings) and implemented a lot of your suggestions!
@natpat thanks for the feedback! The Mac build indeed seems to be broken, we put it down for the moment. Glad you could play our game anyway! The game suddenly stopping is a bug that happens when the song is about to loop. We are working on it. It means you made it really far, though! Congratulations to the current Highscore!
Amazing game all around! Insanely good graphics, pumping music, cool sound effects, thick atmosphere and most of all a fun game! And everything feels so polished! Definitely one of the top entries!
Great visuals and audio! The presentation really kicks in. The sudden change of atmosphere worked really well, though I neither found the backpack, nor any dogs. Are there actual dogs?
Anyways, good game, I liked the short ride!
Nice job! You pulled off the puzzle aspect quite well. I love the sreenshake on Bob's head colliding with a wall. It's the little touches that count!
I really did feel the dread of being a fish trapped in its personal hell that is also its home. Though I felt from the start how this game was going to end, I desperately tried to outsmart the net, until I was the only fish left. It was a dilemma, but I just had to sacrifice my friends. Didn't safe me, of course. The atmosphere is so insanely dense! It's actually hard to believe, you managed to create graphics like this in such short time! I think polish over gameplay definitely was the right decision on your side - It really does pay off. Considering it's a LD entry, your game is perfect to me as it is. Though if there ever will be a version with more gamey components, I will absolutely try it out.
Amazing entry, one of my favourites thus far <3
As a dolphin we usually hand out fishes to games we like, but after playing yours I am not so sure about this practice anymore. And I now feel bad about our own game for its extensive fish filetting part...
I love the idea and the feeling your graphics and awesome soundtrack convey! However, for some reason I can't play the game. Whenever a unit I selected is about to reach its destination, the animation stops and it jumps back to the starting point. The knights stop inside the the pawns they are supposed to jump over. This happens to me in both the web and downloaded version. The enemy pieces are moving fine.
I have no idea why this happens, as apparently others don't suffer from this problem.
I used Firefox, newest update. But I had the problem with the downloaded version, too. It's propably not worth investigating ':D
Anyways, I played your game on a different computer where it worked just fine. And maaaaan, is it a fine game! I love how frantic and chaotic it plays. Graphics and sound are awesome! The title and description bring to mind an 80s video game commercial in the best possible way!
I love your entry and just noticed it's a compo game, which makes it even more admirable!
Great job! Have a fish of gratitude π <3
I really like the presentation of your game! Graphics are nice, the sound effects are cute and the music is soothing. It's easy to imagine a cool game on this groundwork, but it sadly just isn't there yet. Maybe you continue developing this game? :)
π
It's a cool idea! The graphics work well and the matching mechanics feel quite unique. I had a recurring bug however, where about 1/3 of my towers doesn't shoot at all. I wasn't able to get past wave three because of this. However, I figure it's a bug because others managed to get much further, so I don't hold it against your game.
I hate horror games. I don't even know, why I clicked on this. Well, no, I totally know why I did it. Because of the super sweet first GIF. And here lies the magic in your game. You managed to make me really bond with Meowmie! I was the little girl and I just loved my Meowmie from the first second. I really felt it. Which is an insane feat. That love for Meowmie made me, as a player, venture forth, even though I hated it. Waaaay to scary for me. The atmosphere was so tense, that I thought about quitting a few times. But my hungry and sick kitty demanded me to go on. So I did. I just had to.
Wow, I really like the execution here! Sadly I have no second player around right now, but playing against myself I can totally see the potential! Animations would be nice, but I already like the clean style and the cute buffletaur aesthetic! (Yes, I actually remember that game from last jam for its philosophical money quotes ;) ) I really like your UI, it's very organised, the font sets the right mood and it's just generally pleasing to look at. The music fits really well, too!
Good job on this one, have a fish <3 π
As others have pointed out, there is not that much game here. However, it still felt really good to just explore the desert - there is definitely fun to be had!
Cute little game! However, I found it quite hard to figure out, what to do. Maybe you could update the description with a little instruction?
Wow, who would have thought these two genres mix so well? I loooove the atmosphere you created. The graphics are of insanely high quality and the ambient sound and beating heart are incredible intense. Such a nice creepy mood.
Amazing job!
Wow, what a neat idea! It's actually strange, no one has thought of this before - would be a perfect fit for a mobile game!
The item positioning was sometimes a bit difficult, because to me it often felt the positioner was on top of an obstacle when in fact it was still in front of it. Also sometimes I randomly died without any visible obstacle. Also I felt the music was too tense.
But all in all a very fun and well executed idea and game! Great job, have a fish <3 π
Wow, what more is there left to say? This caught us completely off guard. Amazing in every category! Also, that song is super dope! Could you give us the link?
We send you a fish because we love you and fish is good <3
Nice game! The art is really evocative and sets such a nice tranquil mood coupled with your choice of music. It's really relaxing.
The game works super well. My only gripe is that the bigger fish sometimes got stuck in the kelp. But since restarting is super easy and the music suppresses any rising anger, it's okay.
Good job on your game, have a fish <3 π
A pretty mental thing. It's unsettling how uneasy it makes you feel when you control both victim and torturer. It's also an amazing concept in general to control to opposing characters at once. Makes you think deeply about every step you take and is an intense journey. Graphics are insanely good for such a short timeframe! With a bit more polish (especially voice acting) this could become an underground browsergame hit!
As it is now, it is, simply, an amazing Ludum Dare entry!
This game is ingenious! I love your premise as well as its execution! The graphics are perfect, the music sets the mood perfectly and the dialogues are hilarious! I grew really fond of all the characters. A top entry!
I didn't really like the jumping mechanics, but it could also be based on the keys used. Using X, Z and Shift together is nigh impossible on a QWERTZ style keyboard. So I was actually kinda glad there was no extensive use of the jumping mechanics. Also I often wishedd to be able to manually advance the text. It was a bit slow for my taste. Those are the only things I can criticize, everything else is perfect! Really, one of my favourite LD entries thus far!
Have a fish <3 π
Wow, this game is adorable! I loooove the animation of those super cute flowers! The sound effects are just as sweet. You don't even need music to create a wonderful mood. Great job! I wish controls were a bit easier, but it also adds challenge. The zoomout at the end makes you really appreciate what you did in your run.
Great job, have a fish of gratitude! π
And good luck on reaching 20 votes, you really deserve it and it would be a shame if this game doesn't get a score.
Insanely cool game! The idea alone is gold, but the execution is even better! You managed to make an AI that is actually fun to play against! Though I totally wish I could play this against human opponents.
Graphics and especially audio are extremely well done, too! Awesome entry, love it. Have a fish <3 π
Cute game! The art is simply outstanding! Amazing job there!
The actual game is pretty hard. I feel the margin of error could be higher. Or the presented buttons more bundled together so you don't have to double check if you hit the right key.
But all in all a great game that is just sooooo pleasing to the eye!
Wow, amazing idea and implementation! I really love your game! Art, music, everything fits! How insane is the idea, to have the player type the instructions before they are allowed to play?! Great game, have a fish <3 π
This game is so weird yet wonderful! Sadly, I lack the words to describe how much I love your game, but be told that I do! Have a bunch of regular fishes <3 πππ
Wow, the sense of style in this one is really good! I really like the dynamics between the two characters and the music is top notch!
Really cool game!
A really solid entry with a great presentation! I love the little details like the certificates, the animation, the intro and the spaceships wings! I am pretty sure that xerostomia was the correct answer when the game told me it's lupus, though. Maybe I just misread the question.
Wow, your game works really well! In the beginning it's not super obvious how the towers work, but you get it quickly. The cannon tower makes things a bit easy once you notice you can just roll over the wall. But well, I guess later levels would have been more difficult - and I definitely wanted to play on once I finished the 7 levels ;)
The graphics, simple as they may be, actually work pretty well and the audio design is amazing - I love that song, really sets the right minigolfing mood!
Great job, have a fish <3 π
Nice little game, but a bit too hard for me :(
Lots of content and tremendously fun! However, those genres are really incompatible, because I think I need a new index finger tendon now... Maybe you could add some more autamation features from the clicker clicker genre, like auto firing without clicking in another direction or indestructible turrets (because now it also is some kind of tower defense where you defend your towers instead of vice versa :D). But a great job overall, keep it up and have a fish π <3
Wow, this works so well! I am wondering now, why no one has made a golfing platformer before. I could totally see this as a SNES classic!
Great game! The art direction really is something! I love the playfulness of it all. The shooting sound is just hilarious! Graphics are great and i dig the background you give in the beginning. I actually would have loved some ukulele for our game, too, but sadly, we didn't have the time. So it warms my heart to hear this beautiful instrument in another fishing game :) As a game, I think your idea does work really well, too! Great and engaging genre combination! On my first playthrough, the game crashed after entering my name. On the second it didn't. So maybe that was just a random bug. Nevertheless, I wanted to report it.
Great entry, have one of our fishes for your effort <3 π
Such a great idea that works so incredibly well! It has so much potential, I can totally see a full game centered around controlling a die.
Easily a 5 Star entry.
Ha! This is one of the most incompatible combinations I've seen this jam! And it's also fun! Sound and especially graphics are amazingly well done, the game feels really polished. Awesome job! <3
Maybe I'm just being stupid here, but how do I answer the phone? I guess there should be a left click interaction that somehow does not show for me?
Thanks @sintel, turns out that was my exact problem. Now I feel stupid... But I'm also glad I came back, because, boy, is there a game to find here! Your game just warms the heart, if there is a special award for cutest LD entry, I bet all my fish it will be yours! I'm not lying if I say this game is just as cute as Slime Rancher - and you managed that in just 72 hours! The doggos are so adorable. I love how they roll around when you use the water gun. Well, actually I love everything about them. Everything. Also I laughed out loud when my first client was apparently a ten year old boy who had to attend an important business meeting.
My biggest criticism is that the phone is a little hard to find. Or at least that the Switch is to easy to mistake for a phone. Oh, and the exit button doesn't work.
Your game just makes me happy, thank you for that <3 I will definitely be keeping it long after this Ludum Dare.
Cool idea and good implementation! The graphics and animations are amazing and set a really bleak mood. The intro helps a lot, too! At first I was confused about shooting, but I figured it's only use is shooting your allies. Also, the game is really easy. Only when I waited did I notice I can shoot my allies. Which felt so bad. But also necessary... Ah, you captured the madness of wartime really well. Better than I'd have thought possible for a comical runner game!
Great job for your first team effort!
Wow. Just wow. It's hard to imagine you actually made this game in just 72 hours. Amazing graphics (I really have to look into bloom lighting now), cool audio, satisfying gameplay... What's not to love? Easily 5 stars!
I like it! Cool concept, so here is a tasty fish for you: π
I sadly don't have the hardware, but thumbs are pressed you'll get to 20 ratings anyhow, since your game looks super cool!
We don't have Twitter, but love the idea, so make those extra level anyways please? :) Really looking forward to the post-tutorial content!
Nice game, nice idea... but the controls need to be a litte more polished. I don't like to change keyboard to mouse and back all the time. But here is a delicious fish for you: π
Nice game that feels satisfying to play! I also expected a shockwave on landing instead of jumping, butfigured it out quickly. I think the gorilla style enemies have a bit much health. You could propably skip most of the enemies by just jumping - but where'd be the fun in that?
Graphics are really cool and I personally don't even think you should have opted out for audio. Sure, the song might be super simple and definitely no top contender, but it still worked quite well for me ;)
Good entry!
Haha, what a unique idea! I actually laughed out loud! It plays quite smooth. However, I wished there were some more texts to read. Also I'd like, if the game didn't pause, but you had to take decisions in real time. It was still quite hard.
Good entry!
Nice little shooting game! I played in in my browser and the aim was indeed a bit laggy, so for my first two tries I thought it's unbeatable. But a dolphin's brain is quick to adjust and I beat it on my third try :) It's short, but I think it actually has just the right amount of length before it would get stale with just one kind of enemy. And what do we expect? It's a game jam after all. For me, it was the sweet spot :)
Good job on your game!
Oh, and the music is kickass amazing!
This game should be nominated for the video game equivalent of short film awards.
Wow, you actually made this quite goofy idea (the dream of a car?) genuinely creepy! When the big car appeared for the first time and got really close, I even involuntarily made noises :D The novel mechanic of using your voice as a turbo is ingenious! It even adds to the mood because you force me to scream which signals my body to be terrified which I subsequently am. Amazing. Also, my neighbors are propably heavily confused right now. Great entry!
To me the car controls felt a bit slippery. Also, it wasn't always clear what the obstacles where. For example, I discovered by accident I could drive over the grassy patches.
But all in all, a great and really unique entry! Have a fish <3 π
Wow, amazing atmosphere! First thought: "Stealth Trucking... That's so absurd you can even use the bare genre denomination as a title." Second thought: "This is actually not that far off from reality. What's in that truck? Weapons? Drugs? Refugees?" Great idea, it would even work in a triple A game! Have a fish <3 π
I'm really nostalgic for the artstyle of the 2D part, reminds of the stuff I drew as a kid in MS Paint, haha :D Contrary to some other reviewers I had no problem at all with the jumping mechanics. They felt quite natural to me. Maybe the camera could be a bit more zoomed out so you actually see where you are jumping. I really liked the sudden transition between the two modes. The music accentuated this very well and was really good overall! The atmosphere of the 3d part was genuinely creepy, though I wish a bit more was happening there. This goes for the 2D part as well. But hey, I'm sure the time limit is to blame here, not your creativity. To me, it's quite impressive what you managed to do in 48 hours for your first LD game!
Have a fish <3 π
Charming idea! As it is, there is some balancing and implementation of additional features to be done for me to really enjoy the game, though. Also, better graphics would of course be nice. But I can easily imagine a more fleshed out version of the basic premise!
It is still not possible to download the Windows build from itch.io. Gamejolt version works, though.
I really like the basic premise. It me reminds me of jumping in the old 2D Zelda games which was always much fun. The game just works really well! At first, I thought the instructions were a little unclear, but on the first screen I got them immediately. I am impressed how you were able to create such a thick atmosphere with so little color and so few pixels! The soundtrack is great, too! Sadly, I was not able to finish the game because my notebook keyboard is just not made for precision platforming. It's not your game's fault! What I played was really fun, cool entry! Have a fish <3 π
I played the Web version, so I won't rate you. But wow, this is a cute game! I looove the simple and clean visuals as well as the simple and clean tunes! The implementation is super smooth, too. I am delighted!
One thing I would change is a simple increase in walking speed instead of a dedicated run button. When the player constantly holds down the running button with no drawback, there basically is no need for it. But maybe it's just personal.
Anyway, nice game! The bunnies and their sweet tunes will stay on my mind for a while. Have a fish <3 π
Now I played the whole game. And it was amazing! The atmosphere was incredibly intense - almost to much for me - but interest pushed me further. We don't have a clue how you managed to create that much content in such short time and are absolutly blown away by Darkade!
You earned and deserve our fish of gratitude πgπoπdπ
I loooove the super weird art direction you took! The audio is especially great, too. Everything combined, you managed to create a horror game, that feels truly unique and is fun while also being really creepy! That's no small feat, sir! (or madam, I don't know)
Great entry, have a fish <3 π
I could repeat what I said about last LD's Shifting Dreamscape (and right from the start I knew it was from the same devs - your sense of style is outstanding!):
It's one of the games where you completely forget it was made for Ludum Dare! Everything just fits perfectly. Insanely good graphics, insanely good audio, incredible level design. Really, I can give you nothing but praise. Have a bunch of fishes <3 πππ
What gives you the right to make a game this cute? :o Plays great, amazing graphics, stellar Audio/voice acting - what's not to love?
I'd love to see more of the world you created! Seriously, all the guys in the background, they can't just be decoration!
I absolutely adore your entry in every regard!
A great entry! Even if the graphics are placeholders, it already works really well, regarding the atmosphere. Sounds are hilarious. After I died I wasn't able to gather a new army to tackle the boss again because the values for minions did not reset. The price was to steep, so I just did not try it again. This could need some adjustment. That aside, I really liked your game.
Good job, keep it up! :)
Wow! Your intro is something else! Your pixelart is amazing for such a small tile size! The music is outstandingly good! The overall mood is fantastic! The puzzles are challenging and rewarding! If you haven't already figured by my extensive use of exclamaton marks, I am in love with your title and in fact I will advertise your game right now on the front page, because you, good sirs and/or madams, definitley need and deserve more votes!
I would totally play this as a full game! Or should I say even fuller game? The only negative thing I noticed is that it sometimes is way to easy to get the crates into positions from where you can only restart. Maybe a pulling mechanic or tilewise pushing could help.
Apart from that, amazing job! I send you lots of love and a bunch of fishes <3 πππ
Neat idea! The game plays smoothly and looks really good!
Since you can discard cards anytime, there is not much challenge here, yet. Maybe a puzzle game approach would work well, where you get a set of cards and have to choose for every situation, with the "every enhancement card" as a kind of joker. Or the RNG could be adjusted so you don't get combinations repeatedly that are not fit to let you progress.
I really dig the idea, though, and see a lot of potential here! :)
This game is amazing! Really, there is not a thing I don't love about this idea and implementation! It's weird how attached you can get to buildings made of stone :D We send you lots of love and a fish <3 π
@woergbi This is a bug. If you restart the game, the rating scores won't reset. Thank you for letting us know. Take a delicious fish <3
Thank you all for your kind words and honest feedback!
For our post-Ludum-Dare version we will certainly add instructions. That is something we absolutely forget about under time constraints. The baseball game will also be altered to be more intuitive. And of course the pike will be added, after all it's on the cover. There still is a lot of polishing to do. But well, for now we have to live with the current version.
We appreciate your opinions very much <3
@Rha It's a mixture of fishing game, sports game and cooking game ;)
@Lost Dutchman Software Actually I noticed the palico connection only after designing the kitchen, when the fishing and baseball sprites where already done. But it's so obvious! When I look at it now, the whole game has a light Cheeko Sands vibe (the Felyne town from Monster Hunter 4). It propably was subconscious influence.
@Dragojt The baseball game propably is the offender here, right? It's a bit unintuitive: You have to set the aim in a way, that the fish will pass through it. Then you have to stop the strength bar. You can relax after that, the hitting happens automatically. I think, I will add this to the description now.
We are really sorry about the inconvenience and already changed it for the post-LD version. Sadly, for now we have to keep it this way. Thanks for still enjoying the overall mood! :)
@emiko You are so right about the end animation! Of course, we planned some cutscenes. But, you know, time... Stay tuned for the post-LD version ;)
@Jupiter-Hadley Making bigger fish eat smaller ones is such a neat idea that we immediately implemented it for the post-LD version :D
Again, thank you everyone for your kind words and your feedback! We really appreciate your input!
We already changed the baseball mechanics for our Post-LD build, so stay tuned!
@Jonathan-Daar Finally someone made the connection to Link's Awakening! We actually expected this comment to be one of the first ones :D
@paulhocker We are sorry to hear this! You have to set the aim in a way, that the fish will pass through it. Then you have to stop the strength bar. This can happen long before the fish reaches you. The swinging of the bat happens automatically. This seems to be the biggest problem with our game and in the post-LD version this will be handled in a much more intuitive way. Sadly, it's against the rules to change the current build.
@jonathan-daar Thank you! Right now, we are working on the 1.0 Post LD version but we want to release it when everything we want is included. So it will take a while. Also on itch.io we can only upload one HTML5 version at a time and we want the people here to test our LD version so they can rate what we have achieved within the timeframe. Otherwise it would be a bit unfair.
@niterich Thank you! For the most part, we worked on the game as a team of two. The audio guy and the other (and muuuuuch better) art guy only had time on the last day and only for a few hours, so we are happy to have music and a title screen in the first place. Having better ingame-graphics is kind of utopic for that reason, though of course I totally agree with you! Thank you for your feedback regarding the music!
Great idea, looks amazing, plays amazingly, awesome sound and music - what's not to love? A really great job, and so cute! We send you a fish (cause we are a dolphin and that's what they do)!
Insane level of polish! Also, the idea is gold! Just the thought of it makes me giggle, but you nailed it with your implementation! Great entry, that succeeds in every regard!
Have a fish <3 π
I really dig the idea! It feels like a concept that would fit right into Nintendo Land or some similar party game!
The funniest game I played this Ludum Dare! Seriously, I laughed out loud not once, but constantly! It's really amazing, just add a little music for the dialogue parts and maybe better graphics for the zoo part and you have a browser game for the ages! The third zoo level really pushed me to my limits, but I did manage it - I think you owe me a new index finger tendon now, haha. You're welcome for me watching the credits! Sorry for creeping you out, though.
Have a fish for your awesome little game <3 π
Neat idea! The music is really good! The graphics of course could be better, but they work. Jumping feels a bit rough and the movement speed could be higher. Also I totally forgot you could stop the skateboard again :D The intro is just hilarious! So bad, it's good again :D
All in all a good entry!
Wow, what an intense journey! Everything fitted together so nicely! Well done! The only thing I would change was an option to click through dialogue. It was sometimes a little slow. Apart from that, an amazingly polished entry with really strong design!
May I ask, what font you used?
For me, it was insanely easy, too. I expected some threatening atmosphere and the low difficulty and funny music killed that for me. It's a nice song in itself, but there is some kind of clash between visual and musical artstyle. The game could also do with some more mechanics, but I'm sure you have lots of ideas on your mind but just lacked time ;)
Don't worry, I read your description and you really did manage to build a working base game that is actually engaging enough to make you finish the thing! It can only get better from here, keep it up! :)
Oh, and the title is really cool!
Super cute overall aesthetics <3 It feels like a Super GameBoy game to me. Which is an awesome feat. The game plays really well, too! I can definitely see the potential for long staying power here, should you add some more features!
Great work, have a fish <3 π
Good execution and great art! I felt the battles were a bit long. Maybe it was because the music was so repititve. Also the music felt retro for a different time than the graphics. But those were great, I really love the character designs (and that end boss... hehe.). I'd love to have animated punches on connected hits, but well, it's Ludum Dare after all :D
Good job on your game! Also, your logo is super cool! So cartoony!
Oh boy, that title :D - Humor 5/5 The idea is really interesting and we see a lot of potential in your game! We think a map of the course would have helped a lot because we started in the desert and had no idea where we should be going. Also alot of cacti and stones where floating in the air. One cactus seemed strangely suspicious. there was something off about it, but we could not figure out what it was. Have a fish for your cool game! π
Nice little game! Visuals and music work quite well :)
It's a bit difficult to keep track of different plants you own. And do the enemies attack/can you actively defend against them or are they just randomly moving?
Apart from that, good entry! :)
As someone who knows a bit about the function of cone cells, I absolutely love this title! Changing your perception is ingenious and feels sooooo well implemented. Thank you for making this game!
Sadly, this is more story than game right now, but the idea is amazing and unique! It would have been perfect if there were some branching movements decisions so the chess simulation aspect gets to shine even more. I would love to play that game! Also, the graphics do their job really well and the song is outstanding! Great job! Have a fish! π
Wow, neat idea! The game plays really well as far as I can judge, because totally I suck at it... But I can still appreciate your game! The feedback for shots fired is really nice. The atmosphere is super cool, too.
Sweet entry <3
Man, the idea and implementation are amazing! Even the super simple art and soundtrack are so consistent that I can't even imagine this game with "better" design - it just feels perfect and perfectly polished! Like it's a classic from earlier days. I'm sure it would have become one. It's super hard though, even on easy mode :D
But I love it, nonetheless. Great entry, that I will definitely keep around (except you are working on a Post-LD version, in that case I will keep that one around!)! Have a fish of gratitude <3
P.S.: I just noticed, it is a compo entry. That makes it even more admirable!
Such a cute little game! I really like the sweet atmosphere created by graphics and sound. Somehow even that horrible monstrosity fits into the cuteness. The dancing animations are so adorable! Have a fish <3 π
Nice game, looks like a lot of fun! Here, take a fish: π
A great game with a great sinister mood! Art and audio design are totally lovely!
The walking through the hall part was a bit repetitive, though I understand it was needed to set the mood. Maybe some random dialogues would help, like a selection between "have a nice day", "don't stay up too long", "we're visiting your aunt later" or something. Also, I didn't feel like my choices made any difference in the end. I think I kept Ludy well fed and also got him stenchless every day throughout the game, but in the end he still got more and more out of hand.
All in all a great and creepy game though, great work! Have a fish <3 π
Wow, you really feel bad about those cute little suckers. Their death screeches are especially hard to digest :(
Visual and audio design are great! And Color customisation is a nice touch :)
Cool game, have a fish <3 π
Wow, the artistic direction in this title is so awesome! I love the characters, the music and the overall style! I hope to see more of it! We send you a fish <3
Wow, those really are barely compatible genres! The game is great fun, we love the multiplayer concept! I could really see myself playing a fleshed out version with friends. The stepping sound was playing all the time. Even in the menu. Is it a bug or the result of time constraints?
Made it to wave 25 with a score of 3130 (if anyone wants to compare).
Delightful little game! The game plays really well and the cute graphics and great music kept me engaged throughout! At one point I thought I'd quit because the puzzlers would never fill all my tiles, but just then the difficulty ramped up again. The money scaled quite fast so reloading was no issue at all in the later game. Maybe you could adjust the value or add some different money based powerups that would keep the player engaged even longer.
But all in all a great job, have a fish for your effort <3 π
I love how you are cast into things and just have to figure out what the babies want. Like real babies, I had no idea if they wanted milk or toys. The artstyle is good and the atmosphere really creepy. Nice job! We send you a fish <3
Took a while to "get", but after that, a really good game! It feels like an old sports game mixed with an atari shooter. Perfect retro charm! The music really helps out, too.
Maybe a sort of timer or losing a tiny amount of health on fruit falling would help make the player prioritize making the smoothie. As it is, I automatically focused on shooting all the UFOs (gamer instinct) which made the game both a bit easy and repetitive in the long run.
But overall, I'm impressed! Have a fish <3 π
Nice little game. We had a fun round. It's a little hard to predict and to control your car, though. Maybe shorter rounds would have helped. Also, the wheel's hitbox is really hard to hit. Oh, and you really should have opted out of Audio because it's a little unfair if people who don't know F-Zero give you a high rating for the (admittedly amazing and well fitting) song. But overall a good and fun implementation of Ludum Dare's stock idea! :D Here's a fish for you: π
I love the weird artstyle! I'm a sucker for weird artstyles :D
The game plays quite well, even if the controls could be sharper. The sound effects and all the crazy characters are hilarious. I really didn't like the music, though. It was way to energetic and non-crazy for this zany title. It's propably just personal.
Great game overall! :)
Nice little game! The graphics are superb! For me, it was a little lacking in instructions. Like, what do the differet towers do, what are the boxes on the left (once you know it, it's quite obvious they are supposed to be the towers health. I only did figure it out by reading the comments.) and what is the glowing structure at the end? Shooting in the right direction was sometimes a little difficult.
But all in all I had fun, nice game!
Wow, your idea is craaaazy. Worst thing is I know people who regularly use their phone while driving...
It took me some time to figure out where to drive to. Also I suck at Flappy Bird. And multitasking. You can figure the results :D Still, a good entry that (theoretically :D) plays well and a powerful commentary on the recklessness of some drivers!
Nice graphics and audio! I felt the game started a bit slow, but once it picked up speed, it was quite fun!
I like the basic idea! However, I had no idea what I was doing the whole time. You don't even explain the controls on this page :D And then there where 3 gauges I had no idea what they were reffering to. Anyway, driving that car felt quite fun and the presentation is really good, so I drove and jumped into that boss until I figured his health bar could be the blue one. Which it apparently was, since I was suddenly greeted by an insane end screen :D
Wow, an amazing entry! It's something where you wonder, why noone has had this idea before! The art direction is also great. We really like the minimalist graphics and the chill soundtrack! My only gripe is that I suck it this game. But it's not your fault! I still appreciate it very much. Have a fish π <3
