Lovely idea, but I'm no more used to this very old style graphics and it gave me a bit of nausea xD But the game itself is very nice and polished!
Thanks guys! @rombus the source is available now! The code turned into quite a mess towards the end though, so good luck :P Happens every ludum dare!
Clever and hilarious idea.
Hey! Just wanted to say that I fixed some performance issues, removed unused assets to reduce download size and fixed a bug where you could walk through walls with a very low FPS. Also you can press F or F1 to show a framerate counter! Hope you all enjoy the game!
Very cute! Graphics are done nicely, and the way that all the loot stacks up in your hands is very fluid, feels really nice picking up all the loot
I really loved this graphics!!
Woah talk about old school. Great premise. I enjoyed it quite a lot.
I really really adore this game. Made me feel like I'm home, somewhere nostalgic, and its comforting! Also the first-person perspective and graphics actually made me excited about the game right at the beginning, and not alot of games managed to do that. Kudos!
The controls were abit odd at first but I quickly got the hang of it. Killing and hitting monsters feels soo good (the explosion sounds, the visual feedback), and everything is thematically coherent.
Fabulous game.
Love this game. Have nice feeling and gameplay was also fun
For a "One-man-only" project, we are amused about your work!
Spoiler: If you hold Spacebar you can enter GodMode hehe
Well done!
I love it! So nostalgic, except for the free movement which is awesome :D I love the motion of the walking too! Great work.
This was a seriously solid experience. I had fun picking up the loot and realizing that my vision was getting messed with! Really great job!
Lovely game. The first one I rate in LD40 and I have already played one of the best games in the compo :)
Very inspired by Prelude Of The Chambered by Notch but with your own twist. Extra score for also using the excellent LibGDX-library!
That's really funny idea and good execution. And a great amount of content for a compo game!
Overall - 4/5 Fun - I had a lot of fun playing this one! I love the backstory and having to carry all of the items. 4/5 Innovation - Though it was fun, it _was_ just another dungeon crawler... 1/5 Theme - Even though it fit the theme well, it wasn't too original. Don't feel bad, though, mine had the same concept! 2/5 Graphics - A fun, consistent art style. And I liked the different resolutions presented as 'viewing modes'. 4/5 Audio - The music was quirky and fit the bumbling hero character. 2.5 Humor - I just love the premise of this game (and a lot of that is the way it was presented in the beginning) 3.0
Couldn't figure out how the loot mechanic fit into the game (slower movement? slower swings? getting hit makes you drop more stuff?) but kudos for a) making me smile with your opening text b) making a game that's fun to play and c) getting a legit puzzle in there. Sweet!
What an absolute gem! Very nice bite-sized dungeon crawling with very polished presentation.
I like the retro graphics! Got Wolfenstein flashbacks. Also very cool that you have to hold all the loot clogging the screen more and more :)
The big default is the gameplay, as you can just hit all the time and move foreward.
Overall, the idea is great, the implementation is impeccable, it was a good experience. Very nice job mate!
Special bump for the level design!
Awesome and a good way to use the 'more loot makes it more difficult' idea, much better than the idea of slowing the player down.
Solid entry! I love the graphics and level design. Had fun playing it multiple times and trying to get further. The game works very well with the theme! Great job!
Wow! Impressive game for a LD! ^^
I really liked the graphics, as well as the idea. The music was fine if a bit repetitive, but overall, very strong and funny entry. Congrats! :)
LOVED this game! It totally inspired me to do better my next compo. Thank you for sharing the tools used! I've never heard of LibGDX it looks awesome! And I also didn't know about Chronolapse. Two tools I definitely want to try out next jam.
Really good fit to the theme, also a funny concept, graphics is great, liket variety of the loot. Different enemies was fine. Solid and complete game.
Wow, really cool idea! You also captured the retro feeling really well! Your game feels like what I always imagined the old Windows 98 screensaver to be like plus the amazing idea regarding the theme of the jam! Graphics and sounds are really, really good. Walking around, picking up items, fighting - it all felt really well done. I only had some problems with flickering pixels everywhere on the texture borders.
Hey! Thanks for the feedback everyone! Its always awesome to get some responses after Ludum Dare! @beebo-studios the flickering issue you're talking about seems to be an issue with WebGL on some systems, not sure how to fix it. The desktop version works fine though!
@evgiz Did you start with a basic libGDX dungeon example?
@Caramelcode I started with my own simple 3D base on top of LibGDX, it handles first person camera controls and shaderproviders and adds a few squares to the world!
@evgiz Awesome! That would explain why I couldn't find an example base like that anywhere online. Would you mind sharing the source of the base you started with?
@caramelcode Here's the libgdx 3D base project, I cleaned it up a bit too. It's an IntelliJ project, so other IDEs will probably require some tweaking to get it to work. I'm still inexperienced with the 3D api, so there are certainly better ways to do most of it, hopefully it's still helpful! http://evgiz.net/games/theburdenedraid/LibGDX-3D.zip
@evgiz awesome thanks!
