LD38 — A Small World

For The Love Of Money by KunoNoOni 2017-05-01T22:32:24Z

Definitely a fun little relaxing game. Controls were easy, levels were well designed, and the difficulty overall was not too high. The music was very relaxing, but the graphics weren't exactly consistent (in terms of color) and had a little bit of splitting (black lines between tiles). Overall, 3/5. Good job!

Prototype of a Crash Landing by Muel 2017-05-04T22:50:43Z

Good start, anyway. A good post to make would be what you would do different next Ludum Dare, to scope your game properly.

Solitary Freedom by CMLSC 2017-05-19T22:48:01Z

I played this weeks ago when the judging started, and I came back to rate it (because I forgot). I really liked the concept, graphics, and gameplay of this game, but the levels were insanely difficult for me. Overall, one of my favorite entries, is it all right if I port this to my Raspberry Pi and set it up for Wii Remotes?

Space Balls by Dejvo 2017-05-09T21:50:32Z

It's a cool concept, a little hard for me, and the music was a good choice. The graphics were very, um, neon, I guess. I think an addition of a reset key (for when you get stuck in an atom's gravity) would be a good feature. Good job!

Cowmets by NickZangus 2017-05-17T23:22:40Z

Wow, this was so fun! It was super hard to catch the red cows, though. The graphics were, of course, cowalicious. Good job!

Space Colonist's Tiny World by SoKette 2017-05-10T21:01:18Z

Elon Must (get the battery in)? This was really fun and way too short. I wanted to play longer! This could become a really fun mass clicker in the future. I liked the graphics (except for some pixels being smaller than others, which is a pet peeve of mine), and the sound effect at the end? Sounds like me after watching Signs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeTjBPbY70Y Gets me every time. Even just now after watching this clip.

Escape from the Bathroom of the Evil Dentist IV: The Final Tooth by Asteroid2K 2017-05-09T23:46:49Z

I could not understand this game. At all. Once I had obtained the key, I could not leave the door and I only kept getting a dialog box telling me what an idiot I was. To be honest, I don't find this funny, but it won't take the rating down at all. The photos in most cases were blurry, the graphics inconsistent, and the audio almost non-existent. Ah well. 48 hours certainly isn't enough time for anything, especially game development. Congratulations on completing a game in the first place!

Mediator by randomhuman 2017-05-01T22:39:24Z

Excellent atmosphere, though I would have liked to see more detail on the ship's hull. Promising beginning to a hopefully longer game in the future.

World Destroyer by Move127 2017-05-03T22:36:14Z

Very addicting game! The audio was super repetitive, though, and some of the levels (especially the first one with the jump powerup) were just too hard. Overall, good job!

Where is mommy? by jQnas 2017-05-10T21:54:54Z

That was great! I love the addition of the blacklight that revealed your footprints, and the final puzzle had me scratching my head for a little bit. The ending was about to scare the pants off of me, and I almost cried when there wasn't a jumpscare. I can't handle horror. You nailed it, guys. You just nailed it.

Hugely Unpopular President Simulator by CliffracerX 2017-05-04T01:02:32Z

It's so funny! Good job!

Too Small For Us by Gulyasarni66 2017-05-10T00:35:24Z

Nice game! Very big for a compo entry. I wish I had more time to play.

Pod2000 by nidup 2017-05-01T23:07:20Z

Excellent atmosphere and audio! Very interesting way of controlling the game, and a neat, well-rounded ending. Good job!

Pod2000 by nidup 2017-05-01T23:09:08Z

Also I would have liked to see command recall by pressing up, like in other command shells. I actually tried to do that at one point.

SUPER METROARIO by puppetmaster 2017-05-01T18:29:29Z

Excellent concept/interpretation of the theme. Fun little mashup of Metroid and Mario (loved the Pirahna Plant/Skree enemies). The controls seemed kind of floaty (which, having played Super Metroid, is not a problem, but it would be for new players), and the graphics were inconsistent at best. The music was reminiscent of the Item Room theme from Super Metroid and really helped set the mood. The level design is fairly intuitive while not being too straightforward (the hallmark of any good metroidvania). Overall, I give it a 3/5.

Llama's World by fancy89 2017-05-09T21:30:14Z

Cool game! It was pretty difficult, but the graphics were nice and the music was good as well. Good job!

RETROHACKER 1993 by Flatgub 2017-05-04T23:51:09Z

Awesome concept, I look forward to seeing a finished version!

Candy Cave Quest by ashtheevil 2017-05-08T23:06:43Z

I love this game! The storytelling is great, the puzzles are perfect, and the ending... Too sweet (no pun intended)! The music was perfect (and excellent key change when the spider appeared), the graphics were cute (although I'm not a fan of the scratchy line style there), and it just has a good atmosphere. Speak to @pov about changing from Compo to Jam.

Paper traveller by dunin 2017-05-05T21:46:42Z

Great concept and art style, but the puzzles (the second map) stumped me... Good job!

Little Lands by Mr_Field 2017-05-05T00:08:12Z

Very cool game! I wasn't able to load my ship, but I had a lot of fun playing. Good job!

Flovala by larzan 2017-05-08T22:50:47Z

Beautiful game! Overall: I thought the game was really good, the gameplay was fun and the difficulty was not too high, and the art was excellent. I would have liked to see an ending sequence instead of slam cutting back to the beginning, though, and the plants did hide some of the enemies (which makes for some very stressful reveals). Fun: I found the game extremely fun to play. The relaxing atmosphere lets you sit back and wonder what the next evolution will be. The controls were a little floaty, which made it hard to avoid those that want to eat you. Innovation: Unfortunately, there's a lot of 'eat to evolve' games out there, so there aren't that many points to be given for innovation. Theme: Fairly unique interpretation of the theme (it's a small world but look, I grow!), but nothing too original. I'm extremely harsh in this category though, so don't listen to me... Graphics: I liked the art style a lot, the characters were cute, and the animations were good. Audio: I know you opted out of this one, but I just want to say the music choice was superb, though the dark creature eating sound effect was a little harsh. Good job!

Flovala by larzan 2017-05-08T22:51:28Z

I'm sorry about the multiple comments, the website is broken so bad (can't copy/paste anything at all or it won't publish).

Murder 38 - Episode One: A Small World by rodobodolfo 2017-05-03T22:19:47Z

The art and music were very good, but I couldn't progress after putting the wallet in the computer. Good job, though!

Small World Transport by devpaul 2017-05-17T23:23:48Z

It was a good concept (it could have used a restart button, though), and the graphics were well-done. It's too bad more couldn't be finished, but 48 hours isn't nearly enough time. Good job!

Bureaucratic Deity Simulator 2018 by mmason 2017-05-17T23:55:03Z

This is a really cool concept, but I found it pretty confusing. It could have used an in-game guidebook or something. The graphics were very good but it fell short in the audio department. Good job!

World Tours by Mathiouza 2017-05-11T03:53:37Z

Good job, 16 hours is precious little time, but I'm still going to give you my opinion. The controls were a little buggy. Every once in a while they would stop working, and the collision, as others have said, were not perfect. That said, I loved the concept, and it wasn't too hard, though I felt a little cheated by being forced to die at the end.

Nocturne by Awpteamoose 2017-05-09T22:22:20Z

Following @endless-plumber... The game was stellar. These are the kind of games I like, the far-out artistic ones that bring the feeling of being alone where no one can hear you... r Chopin. The graphics (made by yourself, I assume), were heavenly, the choice of music was delightful (I just wanted to drink tea and watch the sun get smaller). An excellent game. ``` I climbed a mountain today. It wasn't very high. Ah well. Armchairs. Records. Time. Mountains. Lights. Dreams. Good things to fill a life with. Good things to have done before you die... ```

Naarrow by Ace17 2017-05-10T00:16:03Z

This is awesome. Metroidvania is one of my favorite genres ever, and you just nailed this one. Here's my thoughts as I played through the game. Start. Oh gosh, the soundtrack. Wow. Next room. Um, it looks the same, but the music changed. That's cool. Next room. This is getting creepy. Next room. Oh, they are changing a little bit. Next room. Ooh, a powerup! Aw, yes, now I can go ANYWHERE! Oh, no I can't. Okay. Backtrack. Oh, a dash. SPIKES! AAAGH! SPIKES!

Super Tiny Adventure Game by sinclairstrange 2017-05-17T22:42:39Z

This was really cool! The gameplay was fun, and the graphics had excellent animations and color. The music was well done and suited the game. I loved the characters as well. Good job!

Terraform by ijzm 2017-05-01T18:50:47Z

Great base for a new game, for sure. The art style is cute but inconsistent, the night cycle is maybe a little to long with not enough action, and I can't figure out what the coal mines do (but that's just me). The audio was fitting of the game and art style. Good job!

Until Tomorrow by MSiddeek 2017-05-03T23:03:35Z

Amazing. Just amazing. I gave it at least 4/5 in every category (except humor). Great job!

Bunny On A Plane by ocarson 2017-05-17T23:55:53Z

Unfortunately, the subtitles didn't seem to be in sync, so no karaoke for me! I found the game pretty difficult (as others did), but I liked the concept and the graphics were nice. Good job!

Defending my small world by t0m 2017-05-17T23:03:10Z

The graphical style was nice. The concept was cool, but seemed very limited. The music fit the game but was a little repetitive. Good job!

A Week's Passing by iseeicy 2017-05-04T23:21:41Z

I think my pug died on day 2... Overall, a good game, the storytelling was a good style, even if it was a little slow. Good job!

A small World à la No Man's sky by lavwa 2017-05-04T00:01:14Z

The controls were a little confusing at first, and I couldn't trade my minerals for fuel. However, it's a very big game for only 72 hours, so good job!

NT-Virus by fingamer 2017-05-03T22:42:52Z

I like the concept a lot, and the intro was well made. As to the game itself: I found it too hard, and the moving around part seems to be fairly useless. The graphics, however, were cool, but the music was repetitive and got annoying after a while. Over all, great accomplishment!

Artee by TankardStudios 2017-05-04T00:08:45Z

The controls were a little weird, and by the second wave it becomes nearly impossible to protect the planet. Still, the lines in the beginning were funny, and I liked the art style.

Grillmeister by tomdeal 2017-05-03T22:06:05Z

Grillmeister by DIZELABS - Mozilla Firefox.png THE GRILLMEISTER! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44-RsrF_V_w In all seriousness, the game was fun, the music was good, the difficulty was perfect (for me), and I liked the concept. Good job!

Headroom by PhilStrahl 2017-05-01T18:38:04Z

Excellent game! Though I would have liked to see more gameplay, the art, music, and mood were fantastic, and shrinking a growing the key as well as yourself was a neat mechanic. Overall, 4/5, good job!

Super Collapse Guy by crazi456 2017-05-04T23:41:43Z

Awesome concept! The levels were well designed, and the graphics were cute and fit the gameplay. However, I did come across a glitch, where the character would tumble head over heels when the up and down arrows were pressed. Good job!

Jelly Germ by Ethereal Psyche Games 2017-05-04T22:51:52Z

A little bit tricky with the controls (specifically sticky), but nice graphics and good concept. Good job!

A lone colony on a small planet by makiki99 2017-05-10T21:31:37Z

It's a cool concept, I liked the graphics and I just love Pico-8 games, but it played too slow for me. Good job!

To do list by Finlal 2017-05-02T21:06:31Z

Unfortunately, I couldn't get very far (that's just me). I did like the art style and music a lot though. Good job!

Oops, duplicate.

Escape to the Stars by justinooncx 2017-05-19T17:39:03Z

This game had a cool concept, and good graphics, but it seemed more like mobile-only instead of mobile friendly. The controls for PC players were very hard. I liked the music, though. Good job!

Escape to the Stars by justinooncx 2017-05-19T17:39:04Z

Wake Up ! by GoZz 2017-05-04T01:23:42Z

Amazing atmosphere! The puzzles were well designed (although the jumping was a little annoying), and the ending... ??? Good job!

Super Snowman Spider Showdown Supreme by TheClintHennesy 2017-05-02T20:57:17Z

Good job on the game! As other's have said, the art is excellent, though the music is repetitive and gets annoying after a while. The controls are a little weird, but the idea of the game taking place in a snow globe is unique. Good job!

Superbugs by Breadmower 2017-05-03T21:49:59Z

Excellent game! The puzzles were challenging, the gameplay was simple and easy to grasp, the music was non-intrusive, and the line at the end? Priceless. I always wanted a Nobel Prize...

Recursive nightmare by Toulou 2017-05-05T18:00:48Z

This game is so funny! I liked the weird storyline and looping gameplay. All in all, I though it was a cool and unique game. Good job!

Monster Island by Baraa Marwan 2017-05-17T22:38:46Z

Excellent fun, addicting, though the sound effects were harsh. Good job!

Roguelike One by Chris Otey 2017-05-10T21:20:33Z

I love this! It was so fun, the level progression was excellent, the music and sound effects were perfect, and the humor was subtle but not invisible (like the overclocking joke). Good job! ``` I'm the pilot, I brought the message I'm the pilot, I brought the message ```

Ghostscaling by STUDIOCRAFTapps Developpement 2017-05-09T23:58:31Z

Even knowing how to leave the blocky, I couldn't complete the first level. The controls were too hard, I couldn't kill the fire enemies, and there were all these little spaces I kept getting stuck in. The graphics were all right, not terribly consistent (and was the shine on the tiles intentional?), and the audio was a little harsh (especially for headphones). All in all, good job on completing a compo entry!

Thanks, @jejoll! Come back and rate when the judging begins!

A Relatively Small World by Samusoidal 2017-04-29T15:33:53Z

@random-storykeeper Thanks for the feedback! Totally agree with you about the buggy pickup code, I think maybe some dedicated collision boxes would have worked well. As to the aliens, each time you pick a city up, the aliens targeting it will choose a new target, and it is safe to put it down immediately. When an alien changes targets four times, it explodes. As to the quote, if you hold right shift while you press Play, it will skip the quote. I will update the page with a walkthrough. Thanks again, and remember to come back and rate!

A Relatively Small World by Samusoidal 2017-05-01T15:00:32Z

@connorses Thanks for the feedback! I never really thought about resetting to the beginning of the level, but it's definitely a good idea (why didn't I think of it?). As to the score counter, once it reaches 50 (or 30 if you're in Hard Mode), that's when you get a game over. But Hard Mode itself is just something I put it because I had a little time left over. Thanks again for the comment!

A Relatively Small World by Samusoidal 2017-05-01T17:45:55Z

Thanks for the feedback, @zaibakk! The gameplay consists of picking up cities with X, and putting them down again to solve puzzles. I'll update the page with a how-to.

A Relatively Small World by Samusoidal 2017-05-01T18:43:19Z

Thanks @theclinthennesy! Honestly, I don't know how to feel that people are getting stuck on my puzzles. Is it because they stink or because they are so good? How do I even figure that out? Anyway, there's a walkthrough if you need it.

Petri Dish Simulator 2017 by Fangh 2017-05-03T21:56:03Z

1707 peak... Then they got out and destroyed the world, and the apes took it over... Fun game, super stressful because of the audio, and a good difficulty curve. The controls were a little buggy (eyedropper would glitch around some and the buttons didn't work sometimes), and there didn't seem to be any real mechanics other than the medicine and poisons, but overall, 3/5!

Statera by Kristian David 2017-05-04T23:28:23Z

Cool game! The graphics were well implemented, and the controls were intuitive. I must say I could not figure out the goal of the game just from playing it, but I did last 137.7 seconds. Good job!

Small Schifo Prince Planet by maybe 2017-05-02T22:18:21Z

Nice game! I liked the music and the gameplay, it was simple but challenging. Good job! And was that a reference to the little prince?

Murder by TheGameGoyal 2017-05-04T00:11:23Z

Cool game! I don't see how it fits into the theme, but toggling between looking down and stabbing people was a cool mechanic. It could have done with some music though. Good job!

Lonely by AgeNtNicK 2017-05-10T21:27:36Z

As soon as I walk outside THERE SHE IS! You wish. Funny concept and good graphics, but there's not much in the way of gameplay. Good job, though, and congratulations on completing a game in 48 hours!

"It's a small world!" by szczebel1995 2017-05-02T21:51:17Z

I found the controls and environments made it hard to navigate without angering people or getting hit by a car. The concept was funny, though, and the music fit the gameplay. Good job!

Have a Bad Time Simulator by MagnusL 2017-05-10T21:36:52Z

Online multiplayer games aren't the best choice, because most voters don't have time to coordinate 'play dates,' that said, I booted it up and it was HARD AS NAILS! That's the kind of platforming that we need. Unfortunately, not very fun without a friend. I'll probably boot it up later and play with some other people. Good job!

A World In Her Eye by OrbitalBlueprint 2017-05-19T18:09:36Z

Wow, lots of comments! I thought this game was really fun, even if I didn't understand the objective too well (I played the 48-hour version). I liked the graphics and the music as well. Good job!

Missing Lands by potatolain 2017-05-04T23:20:11Z

The controls were good, the graphics were very NES, and overall it's a very impressive accomplishment to make a NES compatible game in 48 hours. Good job!

Blocknauts! by EndlessPlumber 2017-05-02T21:31:47Z

I can't play the game, I get an error saying ``` Failed to open descriptor file '../../.../BlocknautsDemo/BlocknautsDemo.uproject' ``` From the screenshots it looks good though! EDIT: On Windows 10

Paper Jam! by danhett 2017-05-17T23:25:44Z

This is exactly what Ludum Dare needs, a hard as nails platformer! The graphics were nice (similar to the ones in my own entry), but the sounds and music were a little repetitive and annoying. Overall, it's a good quality entry, so good job!

Legend of Helda: Breath of the Mild by Bryan Livingston 2017-05-18T00:00:42Z

This was a very fun game with great graphics and a cool concept. The map seemed empty and there wasn't a whole lot to do, but those were my only problems with it. Besides being the complete opposite of theme, I mean. Good job!

Trapped in Engineering - My Game first time by Bill Wheatley 2017-05-05T21:55:11Z

Ahead Warp 1... The engines are out. Ready the phaser banks... The phasers are out. I can't breathe... The life support is out. We're under attack... The shields are down 100%. WHY, CAT, WHY?!?!? The controls in this game were very tricky (I actually got stuck in a corner on my first try, and the stairs ended up costing me the game), the audio was a little annoying, and the smoke was very disorienting (maybe that's the idea). I think it's a good concept (though I don't see the theme), and could be made into something great with some more time. We need more Star Trek games.

Mulletman and the Molemen by Stevemata 2017-05-01T18:59:10Z

Cute graphics, fun gameplay, and LOUD NOISES give you a 3/5. Good job!

Cool game! Didn't quite get into orbit, but it was a fun concept.

Legends Of Block by sagarpatel25700 2017-05-10T00:20:19Z

Cool game, the music was nice, the controls were intuitive, and the idea was fun. Good entry!

The Space Explorer by UnidayStudio 2017-05-01T19:05:12Z

Very poor performance on my PC, but nice graphics and audio. Excellent animation, though. Good job!

Also, I forgot to say, I made my first game in Blender... Memories.

Crash Cassini FOR SCIENCE by 2kah 2017-05-10T00:27:35Z

CASSINI HAS BEEN DESTROYED Never in my life have I been more happy to hear those words. I liked the minimalist audio in this one, it really added to the atmosphere. The gameplay was challenging but not too hard, and yes, the thrusters are backwards. Overall, nice game!

Monolith by samlo 2017-05-01T18:42:05Z

Very cool game! I like the art style a lot, and it's fun to play. I did notice if you keep hitting Z to restart, the fade starts over and you never get to restart... So don't do that?

Island Guard by AnayK 2017-05-01T22:49:40Z

Nice game! The difficulty ramp is just perfect enough to keep you from just sailing through, and it has a lot of replay value (mass click games often do). Sound (unlike most [b,j,s]fxr effects) is not annoying and fits very well. Good job!

Warpy's World by Nilanjan 2017-05-02T22:19:34Z

I can't install it, sorry. The way my computer is set up breaks Adobe Air...

Warpy's World by Nilanjan 2017-05-04T01:36:41Z

@nilanjan This is just the way my computer is set up. I don't know if I'm allowed to rate the post-compo port (?) but I thought the game was cool (even if I couldn't figure out the mechanics very well).

The Last Game Designer by starvingindie 2017-05-19T17:35:02Z

This had a really good story, and posed some interesting questions about the motives behind game designers. Good job!

Angery Ships Only by adrisj7 2017-05-11T03:40:29Z

This is a very cool concept. It's pretty near impossible for me (I can't build a defense system to save my life), but the music was good and the graphics were as well. Congratulations on your first LD (it's mine too)!

BUS DRIVER by Rombus 2017-05-01T22:51:44Z

Cool game! Music was fun, gameplay was fun, and the graphics fit the style of the game. The font didn't, but that's just me. As a side note, it should be 'You Crashed The Bus :D'

The Curator by adcrusher 2017-05-11T03:26:17Z

This is excellently done. The graphics are very nice, the mechanic is cool, and music, although not yours, was a perfect choice. Well done!

Soleil by JoyFired 2017-05-17T22:41:11Z

Didn't have that much time to play, but from what I've seen it's fairly complete, and not buggy. That's really good for a 3D game made on Jam time. As to the graphics, I liked the low-poly style, but it could have done with different shading. The music was an excellent choice and suited the atmosphere of the game. Good job!

Ctrl + S the World! by Fury 2017-05-08T23:19:08Z

Cool concept and well executed for a first time LD! I liked the art style and the music, but the gameplay was a little too much for me. Love the title, too. Good job!

Very cool art style, good controls, and non-annoying yet fitting music. Good job!

A giant called Frederick. by Anudin 2017-05-09T21:43:53Z

It's a cool idea, but I'm kind of lost as to what the ultimate goal is. I can't ever have more than 20 people, so is that the highest score? The graphics were good but the lack of music hurt it some. Good job, though!

Project Alpha by TMW 2017-05-02T22:08:59Z

I see. I didn't give you a rating because I couldn't play the game, but I would definitely like to see some progress on it in the future.

Gacu by p01ymorph 2017-05-08T22:58:10Z

Agreed with @sagarpatel25700 on the level of the ball. In addition, saying that we need to consume things that are 2/3s our size tell us we will have to assume the size of objects (which we didn't), and cost me quite a bit of trash until I realized the glowing ball mechanic. Otherwise, good graphics, good gameplay, and a very nice jam entry. Good job!

Galactic Girl and the Puzzle Planets by GerardB 2017-05-03T22:50:03Z

Definitely the controls need to be fixed. The suit should also be able to jump its max height without getting a running start. Otherwise, I love the art style (especially the color), the music was very good, and I liked the concept. Good job!

Through the eye of a needle by MezzUK 2017-05-03T22:09:31Z

Very good music! The graphics weren't that great (cubes and spheres don't make the best characters), and the gameplay confused me, but the calm atmosphere makes it a fun play. Good job!

SmallWorld by arg410 2017-05-17T23:00:12Z

It was very confusing, but, if I understand the concept, it would do well with some fleshing out. Good job!

Get Off My Planet by dayvidmoreira7 2017-05-01T23:14:56Z

Interesting concept, for sure. The controls are definitely buggy and some AI would be great, but the art is spot on. Good job!

Electric Space Jelly by inventroom 2017-05-10T21:11:01Z

It's so cute! I love the graphics and the concept, but the gameplay is, you guessed it, too slow. Otherwise I thought it was a very complete game and looked great (even if the audio did tend to grate). I did notice a couple of bugs. First, when you run out of laser the sound doesn't stop until you let go of the spacebar, even if you are not firing. Second, some asteroids would spawn at the edges and fly offscreen. Good job, though!

Song of Fungus by DGSpitzer 2017-05-02T21:46:18Z

Excellent audio and graphics! The puzzles are challenging but not impossible (though I did get stuck on the Scarlet Mother level), and the mood is amazing. Good job!

Ark Initiative by Teslov 2017-05-11T03:31:17Z

Good graphics and a good concept (tourism), but these sim games... They're all over the place! I would have liked to see some audio in there, and a time speed button or something to speed up the process. Certainly a great start to a game. Good job!

Clean the Dorm by fangzhangmnm 2017-05-01T23:11:27Z

Limited Space by Vidinu 2017-05-17T23:01:26Z

This was a really cool concept, I liked the reciprocity of the timers a lot. The graphics (and especially the HUD) were nicely done, and the music was energetic and fun. Good job!

Meteor Mania by Selgeron 2017-05-12T18:13:21Z

Cool game! It was the same concept as a lot of the others this LD, but it you added an air of freshness to it with the shield, and the multiple weapons was something I haven't seen yet this LD. The audio was a good choice, even though it wasn't original, and I liked the graphics. Good job!

Apophis by Urban Logic Games 2017-05-02T22:15:24Z

Excellent concept and graphics! Good difficultly ramp between easy, normal, and hard. Well implemented mechanics. Good job!

Den by La mecanique du plastique 2017-05-09T21:37:33Z

Wow, look at all the comments! This was a very cool game. It had a well implemented dark atmosphere, and a graphical style that fit it perfectly. The music was very good, and the controls were easy to pick up. Good job!

The Fleas In My Head by cenullum 2017-05-11T03:46:44Z

Cool game, it's certainly a neat concept. The music was really repetitive, which was annoying, and it didn't seem possible to build a house anywhere where the hands wouldn't destroy them (which maybe is the point?). That said, I like the 4-color GameBoy graphics, they were cool. Good job!

My idea of A Small World by swrni 2017-05-08T22:37:55Z

Excellent game! Overall: The game was well executed and smooth, ran with no problems on my Windows 10 x64 PC. Fun: The game was relaxing and enjoyable to play, it wasn't too difficult and the single mechanic was very easy to pick up and almost instinctive to use. Innovation: The whole gameplay flow was something that I hadn't seen many times before, so good job on that. Theme: I rate the theme on the originality of the interpretation, and its adherence to the theme. I must confess, although it was certainly unique, I couldn't see how it applied to 'A Small World,' other than playing in a small playing field. Graphics: The graphical style was well implemented and simple. The colors were excellently chosen and non-intrusive, and even the font was easy to read against the soft background. Audio: The music was non-intrusive, which is especially important in reaction-based and puzzle games. The sound were well chosen and complemented the graphical style. Overall, good job!

The more high level the engine, the worse it gets by Ajayajayaj 2017-12-12T01:18:58Z

"You cannot lose" But you also can't really win  I liked the graphics and concept in this one, I'd definitely play a post-jam version. As it is it's more of a prototype.

Pandas Picnic by LordMiji 2017-12-10T22:11:32Z

Cool game! The soundtrack was great and the graphics were pretty good, too (though it was a little hard to easily tell the dishes apart). There were a few points where my mouse was disabled, causing an animal to leave, and it was difficult to level up or satisfy an animal, but overall, I liked the idea and it was a good game.

The Crushed Sky by CMLSC 2017-12-10T15:03:36Z

Another excellent entry! I always look forward to your submissions and this one was no exception. The graphics were excellent, and the sound (though a music track would have been nice) was on point. The level design and mechanics were intuitive and fun to use, and the writing was amusing (although I skipped a few dialog boxes on accident). As always, a testament to Python and its true power in game developing. You ought to release a mobile collection of your Ludum Dare games. I'd be the first to buy it

Temples of Purgatory by Gulyasarni66 2017-12-10T22:06:18Z

This was fun, but a bit slow. I liked the concept of more enemies appearing the more gems you have, but it made it a bit too hard to get past ~25 gems. The graphics were excellent (though I had a few gripes, like some glitches with the grass and the skybox actually looking like a box), and the music was very well done (although the main forest could have used a track as well). Good job!

The Burdened Raid by evgiz 2017-12-06T03:07:57Z

Overall - 4/5 Fun - I had a lot of fun playing this one! I love the backstory and having to carry all of the items. 4/5 Innovation - Though it was fun, it _was_ just another dungeon crawler... 1/5 Theme - Even though it fit the theme well, it wasn't too original. Don't feel bad, though, mine had the same concept! 2/5 Graphics - A fun, consistent art style. And I liked the different resolutions presented as 'viewing modes'. 4/5 Audio - The music was quirky and fit the bumbling hero character. 2.5 Humor - I just love the premise of this game (and a lot of that is the way it was presented in the beginning) 3.0

Shoot off their lumps by pixeye 2017-12-12T01:27:41Z

Seems like the shooting controls were broken for me. I wasn't able to shoot. That said I still beat the game! I loved the graphics and the ambience was great (though it could have used sound effects). Good job!

Earl's Quest by wujood 2017-12-10T22:28:29Z

I love GameBoy. It's one of my favorite handhelds to date. And this paid an excellent homage to the console. The audio was spot on (a little repetitive but memorable), the graphics were perfect, and the dialog was hilarious! I got stuck in the maze early on, but I had fun doing it.

Jazzy Beats by Moski 2017-12-06T02:38:43Z

I love this game! Not only as a fan of jazz, but just having a fun time playing it. Graphics - Well polished, consistent art. Would have liked to see some more in-depth animation. 4/5 Music - While not something I would classify as jazz, it gave a good beat to the beating. 4/5 Theme - The more you have the worse it is... for your rival! I would have liked to see it affect me somehow. 3/5 Fun - Really fun! Though the controls were a little weird (and a tutorial would have been nice), I had a lot of fun beating up the fans. 4/5 Overall - 4/5

The lost strawberry by egordorichev 2017-12-12T03:12:27Z

Wow. This is just amazing. I love the music, art, gameplay, everything. The only gripe I had was that sometimes you didn't have enough time to scope the level before the enemies killed you. I play for 23 minutes and died over 100 times! The Lost Strawberry by egordorichev - Mozilla Firefox.jpg Excellent job!

The Adventures of Marty Graw by Samusoidal 2017-12-05T18:55:17Z

@anaconda-games Thanks! Not sure if it's really obvious, but the time it gives you for each gold piece gets smaller and smaller the more gold you've put in (the equation is ```[gold you're putting in]/[total gold you've already put in]``` seconds).

The Adventures of Marty Graw by Samusoidal 2017-12-06T15:11:35Z

Thanks @x-budsterized-x! The gold you lose when tripping doesn't count towards the end score. Your end score is determined by how much gold you put in the chests. Thanks for the feedback!

The Adventures of Marty Graw by Samusoidal 2017-12-07T00:58:37Z

@moski Thanks for the feedback! The speed of the game is determined by the amount of gold you're carrying over 60 (i.e. when you're carrying 60 gold you can't move). It's more of an incentive to dump your gold into the chests than it is a mechanic. Thanks again!

Factory Panic by Chronosv2 2017-12-10T21:51:29Z

This one got pretty exciting pretty quick! I was spilling things left and right. The sound was definitely harsh, and the controls were a little slow, but I felt like it just needed a bit more polish to make it really good.

Vastator & the broken hitboxes - The game by KureKureciCZ 2017-12-06T02:45:46Z

Overall - The graphics and sounds were nice, but the gameplay was lacking. 2/5 Graphics - It had a very well polished art style. The bloom shader was a nice addition to get rid of sharp low-poly edges. 3.5/5 Theme - The more you have the worse it is... for the village! I would have liked to see some innovation here. 2/5 Fun - I found it kind of hard to click the zombies, and I died pretty early on. For some reason a 'Continue' button kept showing up on my menu, I didn't figure out what that was for. 1.5/5 Nice entry into the jam, considering!

LD40 Compo: The Greed Run by vkmicro 2017-12-10T15:00:44Z

Certainly confusing. The controls seemed glitchy, and the items seemed to make it impossible to win (like reducing the jump height with the fast boots while I'm on the lowest platforms). After 3 minutes I stopped playing because I had collected all the coins and had died, making it impossible to collect any more items. It's definitely a good concept game and I would be interested in a post-jam version.

Infectious Void by Odrez 2017-12-10T21:55:28Z

I love this one! The graphics and sound were excellent, the controls were concise and intuitive, and the puzzles, though short, were well done. I would love to see a post-jam version of this one!

Identity by Kataware 2017-12-10T15:02:08Z

Well, I made it to the end. And was monumentally confused. While the graphics were good and the music was fantastic, the story (as you yourself have mentioned) is sorely unfinished, and the controls are very buggy. It has a lot of potential but I would have liked to see a completed introduction (like an extended Haven level) rather than two areas with confusing story and no gameplay. If you plan to develop this post-jam, let me know, though, because I would definitely play a completed version.

Phaeria's Mine by AVAVT 2017-12-10T22:37:10Z

This was great. Well-balanced, great art and music, and a fun concept to boot. 'Nuff said.

Mr. Moustache by Badosz 2017-12-12T01:04:24Z

Good choice of music! I loved the concept, and the gameplay was fun (though a bit repetitive). Love the idea of modding it, too. Good job!

60's Alien by Vinicius Veronese 2017-12-06T02:55:18Z

Overall - 3.5/5 Fun - I had a lot of fun playing this. I think I figured out the meter (number of footprints over time, right?). 3/5 Theme - The more footprints you have, the worse it is... I love it! 4/5 Graphics - The graphics were a little incongruous (with the pixel art and the realistic lighting) but was fairly well done. 3/5 Audio - The music track was great, it put me on edge the whole time I was playing. It also had a great mood! 4/5

Just one more level by OnlySimple 2017-12-10T22:15:46Z

On a keyboard, I was not able to aim correctly and it was hard to move. I didn't get very far, and my controller wouldn't work with the game. The music is a little harsh when wearing headphones as well. I liked the art, though, and I would definitely play a beefed up version of this.

Too Many Cooks! by Bocodillo 2017-12-10T14:56:26Z

Loved the programmer art! I also liked the mechanic and the concept, it fit the theme well. The addition of a +, - or * next to each category in the HUD was a nice touch. Good job!

Capeman Adventure by DarkSamus9000 2017-12-12T01:14:52Z

Excellent first go! The music was very fitting, though I didn't see the theme in this one. The graphics weren't all that great (I understand it's programmer art, though ), and yes, it was buggy, but for learning a completely new engine in 72 hours? Hats off to you!

Retro Rocket Run! by gwolf86 2017-12-10T14:58:53Z

Well made Compo entry, for sure! It was a little difficult with no feedback as to what the coins were doing to me, and the music got pretty annoying after a bit. The concept was interesting and the controls were easy to pick up, however.

The Gravedigger by kezhaar 2017-12-12T01:09:20Z

I liked the art, sound, and music. Gameplay was a little difficult for me, and the controls (being set to the numberpad) were hard. I'd also recommend setting the player sprite's origin to the bottom middle, it makes turning around smoother. Overall, good game!

Battle Survivor by Anaconda Games 2017-12-06T03:15:01Z

Very good graphics, I'd say! I liked the concept of element weapons, though it was a little hard to use. As for innovation, it was just an FPS for me, but it was a hard theme this go-around!

The Amazing Game 3.0 by DjeyCreations 2017-12-06T03:29:59Z

Waltz by Steffan 2017-12-12T02:45:10Z

I wasn't quite able to match them up, you'd have to have a pretty good ear. The graphics were great and the music (though I didn't hear all of it) promised to be fantastic. Interesting gameplay mechanic as well.

EA Escape by Visperal Games 2017-12-10T22:19:59Z

There were definitely some glitches here, but the premise was funny and I loved the sounds! Graphics and controls were good as well. Good job!

Cunctan's Square by Ajayajayaj 2018-08-19T02:00:22Z

Very cool game, the graphics (though simple) felt highly polished and the gameplay was intuitive and not too frustrating.

The game ran pretty slow while calculating turns for all the players and walls. I'm curious to see your algorithm and a post-jam improvement of it.

I'm still on the fence on whether or not audio would have made it better.

Overall, I gave it a 4.5/5, mainly due to the performance issues.

P.S. What does Cunctan mean?

Running out of space by Predominant 2018-09-01T18:24:27Z

This is really polished for a compo game!

FUN: I had a lot of fun with this one! The controls were a little weird; one suggestion would be to use mouse point and click to pick up packages, which would also offset the long play sessions. The bins for bomb disposal and package inspection could be a bit bigger as well. I gave it a 3.5/5.

INNOVATION: I don't think I've ever seen a package inspection game for Ludum Dare (though I haven't played many of the games this time around). I gave 3/5 for innovation due to the well-balanced mechanics.

THEME: While I don't think that the theme allowed for much unique interpretation, putting your game in a border security office gets you another 3/5.

GRAPHICS: The graphics were well done and felt polished. I think a little bit more polygons would have made a huge difference, along with a bit of ambient lighting. That said, I think this game would run well on lower-end PCs. 3/5

HUMOR: While the premise made me chuckle a bit, the game itself wasn't humorous. 1/5

MOOD: I don't think this category applies here. 1/5

OVERALL: I gave it 3.5/5 (actually on the higher end of all the games I've rated). It's a solid entry and very impressive for only 48 hours, and by yourself, too!

Good job, I had fun with it!

SpaceSorter by Major_Sauce 2018-09-01T18:06:46Z

First off, congrats on finishing! Not everybody can put out a completed product in 72 hours.

That said, I had a lot of trouble with this game. It seemed more like a very early prototype than an actual game. Here's how the rating breaks down.

FUN: To be honest, I didn't have much fun with this, partly because I never organize anything  The controls were also extremely difficult to use and I just couldn't get more than 1 piece of ore to it's correct place. I did see that 'movement stabilizers' were an upgrade, but it wasn't worth it to collect the required ore to upgrade. It's certainly a different control scheme from most top-down spaceship games, and I'll talk more about that below. This category got a 1/5.

INNOVATION: Like I said, the unique control scheme (throttling up and down as opposed to just moving forward and backward) is a bit different, but that's about it mechanically. 1.5/5

THEME: The theme this time around didn't allow for a whole lot of unique interpretation, and this particular one wasn't really out of the box. For at least giving reasons for me running out of space, and for putting it *in* space, I gave it a 1.5/5

GRAPHICS: The graphics, while good pieces on their own, weren't consistent in color, style, or pixel size, and that brings the score down to 1.5/5. At least you had graphics that you spent time on though, a lot of people just use simple shapes for objects.

HUMOR: I'm not sure why you didn't opt out of humor, since it didn't seem to have any jokes or funny parts. 1/5

MOOD: I didn't get a whole lot of feel from this one, and I think a music track would have helped that a lot. 1/5

OVERALL: Overall, for the reasons listed above, I gave it a 1/5. You shouldn't feel bad, though! While I don't know if this is your first jam or not, everybody stumbles sometimes and that's how we learn to get back up. As you saw when you played my 'game', I wasn't even able to finish!

I hope you can take what you've learned this time around and apply it to your next jam effort. Good job!

LANDESCAPE by designernap 2018-08-19T01:46:21Z

I liked this one a lot, it was a good interpretation of the theme and a well-realized concept. The world was very well fleshed out and I liked the pun in the title.

The graphics seemed just under the perfect polish level, and the controls were a little slow. I also wasn't able to figure out how to kill the bombers.

I gave this one a 3.5/5, mostly because I feel like more features could have made the gameplay more exciting, and the audio, while fitting, wasn't among the best audio I've heard.

I do understand that you only get 48 hours, though, and what is here is very promising. Good job!

@cbdevilla Thanks so much for playing! Unfortunately I wasn't able to implement the slightest sliver of the theme, so the gameplay itself is really pointless. I'm glad you liked the art though, it was my first attempt at 3D.

Memory by Kataware 2018-08-13T17:53:24Z

I'll play it more later, but my first impressions were good. It really feels like a solid game.

It would have been nice to have a tutorial in-game or something on this page telling me that I could scroll through inventory. It may just be me but I spent a good amount of time figuring it out!

The graphics were clean and the animations were good, and the HUD didn't get in the way. In fact, the way it was laid out made the game feel more casual while still retaining that LoZ/FF feel, which is a nice approach in a Ludum Dare game.

Overall I gave it 4/5 stars, mainly because a shrinking play field isn't a super unique idea in this pool of games.

Great job, I always enjoy your entries!

Board 'n' pieces by AVAVT 2018-08-15T03:10:34Z

I really liked this one. I played against the AI (it seemed a little weak) and had a lot of fun. I feel like it could have used a bit more sound effects and some color difference between the two player's pieces, but overall I gave it a 4/5.

I'd really like to see this expanded more, it would be perfect as a mobile game!

Blocks by Anubhav Kashyap 2018-08-31T16:15:32Z

@jamison Only? I was only able to get 32!

Excellent game (especially for 5 hours)! However, I'm still going to give pointers as if it were made in the full 48. Here's how I broke down the score:

FUN: It was definitely fun! Some elements of the graphics made the gameplay a bit more (unnecessarily) difficult, and I'll detail that below, but overall it feels action-packed and a joy to play. I did have a bug where I fell onto the top of a block and it killed me. The jumping felt a little floaty and inconsistent (reminding me of your previous jam effort). It might be about time to start rewriting that jump code  For a post-jam version a few gameplay variations would be nice so it isn't just the same blocks over and over again. Some blocks explode when you touch them, clearing out other blocks, etc. 3/5, a solid effort!

INNOVATION: I don't think there's a whole lot here mechanically (again, 5 hours), so this category gets 1.5/5.

THEME: I don't think the theme allowed for much interpretation. However, I gave this category a 3/5 since you weren't representing it as physical objects (crates, packages, etc) but as a simple abstract.

GRAPHICS: The graphics are stellar! A couple things caught my attention: Having the light source more parallel to the wall would have helped the player 'see' where the blocks are coming down, instead of having it at an angle like it is. I also think for such a minimalist game, the shadow quality could have been increased. Overall though they were great, 4.5/5!

AUDIO: The audio was a bit repetitive, though it definitely helped the action-packed feel of the game. I gave it a 2/5.

OVERALL: I gave the game a 3.5/5, mostly due to the INNOVATION and AUDIO categories. I think that with development this could make an excellent mobile title and could bring you quite a bit of success!

Good job, it's quite a lot to do in 5 hours!

Chambers by RemiCraft 2018-09-02T00:02:02Z

That was interesting. It was a very unique implementation of the theme, if not interpretation, and the audio really helped set the mood and make the game scary to play. The graphics seemed inconsistent and unpolished though, and the lack of HUD made it difficult to know the items I had picked up or how far I was from the Creature.

Like @saoi-games said above, I got stuck in a room with no doors. I did figure out that the key allows me to escape from those rooms, but I had to feel along the walls to get to one, since they blended with the walls so well. I'm also not sure how we can win or lose, since the Creature doesn't seem to speed up and the timer never ends?

Overall it was a solid title and you should be proud of your efforts! I gave it a 2.5/5.

Running out of Space by digital bacon 2018-09-01T23:36:40Z

Certainly a good first jam! Here's how the score breaks down.

FUN: While I definitely had a good time playing, the game itself didn't seem fair in that the boxes would just keep piling up and I wasn't fast enough to stop them. Perhaps some powerups would have fixed this. I didn't encounter any bugs and the controls were fluid and easy to pick up. 2.5/5

INNOVATION: I didn't see anything unique mechanically here, so 1/5.

THEME: I've seen this interpretation of the theme a lot during this jam, I give it a 1.5/5.

GRAPHICS: For 'programmer art' it's actually pretty consistent and easy to look at! I've seen some pretty atrocious art this round, and while not super polished, yours is still a step above. I gave it a 2/5.

HUMOR: I'm not sure if there were any jokes at all in this game. I did get a laugh out of the Game Over voice clip because I thought it sounded like Counselor Troi from ST:TNG. 1/5

MOOD: I didn't get any feeling out of this one. 1/5

I wish I could rate you on audio, I really appreciated the fact that each part of the game had audio, right down to the voice clips and beeping when you can't pick up crates. I would have given you a 2.5/5 for that.

OVERALL: It's a solid jam effort, and the beginning of something hopefully much larger. Compared to most of the 'first time jam' games I've seen out there, this one stands out for not being overscoped, detail in audio, and of course, a WebGL build  2.5/5

Good job on your first jam, you should be proud of your final product!

NO SPACE FOR A NAME by Gaweringo 2018-08-15T02:58:33Z

That was really unique! It was pretty challenging at points, but I was able to beat all 6 levels and the final level. The music was a great choice (even if you opted out of the category), and it was a joy to play.

It's also nice to see someone else using the same hand-drawn aesthetic that I've been using in my projects.

Overall I gave it 4.5/5, only because the fonts were hard to read on the menus and the first level.

Great job!

My first Ludum dare - Astro Swing by michelle 2018-08-25T23:02:07Z

This was a neat little game! I only encountered one bug which was not being able to select Play Again or Quit after dying.

I liked the art and the music a lot, they both added to the sort of surreal concept of swinging on stars and boosted the mood a lot.

I think that the camera could have been zoomed out a bit more, and some animation would have been nice as well. Perhaps putting a lower cap on the max fall speed would make it a little less challenging as well.

Overall I gave this one a 3.5/5, mostly due to this particular interpretation of the theme not quite striking me as super original. Though I guess after Phil Strahl's interpretation of 'Running Out of Power' during LD39, a lot of people would probably lean that way.

Good job on your first Ludum Dare and I hope to see more of your entries in the future!

Save Me A Seat by chaitae 2018-08-31T00:21:54Z

This is absolutely charming! I loved the setting, characters, and concept, and it's a great game for a first entry.

FUN - The game wasn't too challenging once I figured out that pressing the wrong keys raises your anxiety level. The bubbles lasted just long enough for me to press the correct buttons, but the game still took me 3 tries to beat. I gave it a 2.5/5 for fun since it's so short.

INNOVATION - I don't think there's anything particularly innovative here in terms of mechanics or gameplay, other than the character tie in with the timid speech bubbles. I gave it a 1.5/5 for this.

THEME - I don't believe that the theme allowed for a really diverse set of interpretations, but the way that this one is presented (seats filling up at a theater), is really unique! I'm still looking for that one game that just blows me away in interpretation to give my 5 star rating to, but you scored very good with a 4/5 on this category.

GRAPHICS - I loved the hand-drawn art style (probably because I do the same thing)! The colors didn't seem to be part of a unified palette but they worked all the same. The lack of actual frames of animation (probably due to time constraints, right ) didn't detract too much from the overall art style too much, though they certainly would have made it better (in my opinion). I gave it a 3.5/5 here.

AUDIO - I liked the choice of music on its own, but I don't think it blended very well with the game. Maybe lowering the volume a bit or using Audacity to dampen the high notes a bit would be better. I find audio to be almost entirely a matter of taste, however, so take this with a grain of salt. I gave it a 3/5.

HUMOR - The amusing dialog from the movie made me laugh the first time I heard it. Who goes to *mime* school? Do the teachers talk at all? However, after a couple restarts it would have been nice to hear a different voice clip or musical piece, and for some more voice clips to run during a play session as well, instead of just the beginning. I gave it a 3/5.

MOOD - NOTE: I group all characters and story into this category! I loved the characters and could completely identify with the girl I was playing. Talking to people can be scary (and the expressions on some of their faces probably made it worse)! Including considerations from the GRAPHICS and AUDIO points above, I gave it a 3.5/5.

OVERALL - I gave it a 3.5/5, a solid jam effort! It was a little slow, a little too easy, and a bit inconsistent in my opinion. I added .5 stars because I didn't encounter any bugs .

You should be very proud of your first jam and I look forward to seeing more of your entries in the future!

Laser Racer by Kappinski 2018-09-01T17:46:51Z

You were right, it is very difficult! As @eric-smith said, it remind me of Tron.

FUN: Part of what made it so difficult was the platforming. While it was easy to control, it was really hard to navigate around the boxes in the beginning, and to land correctly on the floating blocks without losing too much time. While some people might enjoy this difficulty, I guess it's just not for me. I'm all for games that have no HUD, but a small indicator for the laser grid's position would have helped a lot. The different sections were well balanced and designed. It kept me playing for a while! 3.5/5

INNOVATION: I didn't see anything unique here mechanically, just another endless runner. 1/5

THEME: I don't think that theme allowed for much unique interpretation. And this interpretation doesn't strike me as either fitting the theme very well or being very original. 1/5

AUDIO: The soundtrack was great! It kind of reminded me of the action scenes from the Lego Movie . It was fast-paced and really upped the ante. However, it was pretty repetitive. 2/5

HUMOR: I'm not sure why you didn't opt out of this category, since it doesn't seem to be a funny game? I did get a chuckle from the cheesy 'Run!' voice clip at the start. 1/5

MOOD: The atmosphere of the whole world was very well done, and the neon colors really popped and made it seem more futuristic. As a whole, though, I felt like it was missing something that I can't quite put my finger on. 3.5/5

I wish I could rate you on graphics (kudos for opting out since you used the default playermodel), they were very good! You would have gotten 4/5.

OVERALL: This is a very solid jam entry! I didn't encounter any bugs, the game as a whole seemed well thought out, and I had a good time playing it. 3.5/5

Good job on your first jam, you should be very proud!

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Colors of Your World by DDRKirbyISQ 2018-12-19T04:52:37Z

Overall, I gave this one a 3.5/5.

The platforming is solid and the art and music are wonderful. However, I felt that the game itself wasn't very innovative in terms of mechanics, and that the theme-based mechanic of losing a color at the end of a stage didn't have enough effect on the gameplay. The vulture(?) dialog scenes were on point and bumped you up a star in Mood.

The difficulty curve was very shallow at first but increased dramatically once the spikes were combined with the floating platforms. I actually was not able to reach the end of the game because of the difficulty (then again, I am notoriously bad at platforming). As I mentioned the 'losing colors' mechanic did not seem to have an immediate effect on the gameplay.

I really liked the general color palettes and the artwork, though I think a few more frames on the animations would have suited it a little better. The music and sound effects were well placed and tasteful, and as I mentioned I liked the lines that the vultures said.

While I didn't find that many flaws in your game, I reserve 4 stars and above for something that truly blows me away, and though your game was solid and certainly a top-tier jam game, it didn't captivate me in the way that warrants that fifth star.

It was a joy to play as usual, I look forward to seeing more of your work!

Golden ticket to heaven by jac_B 2018-12-19T05:22:31Z

Overall I gave this one a 2.5 out of 5. I really loved the concept and art for it!

The main theme-based mechanic (throwing away your gold to beat the level) was beautiful in its simplicity and you did an amazing job picking an art style and setting to go along with it. That said, the gameplay could use some fine tuning. For example, it was to easy to end up flying too high at the start of the level, with no way to get back down. The 'jumps' also didn't provide enough boost to keep more than 1 or 2 items in the basket at any given time. The gameplay was a little slow for my taste and I would have liked to see more levels.

I liked the choice of ukelele for the soundtrack, though it was a very short loop and got a bit annoying after a while. Some sound effects would have accented it nicely and taken the edge off of it.

This one really hit me at all the right angles, though, and I enjoyed playing it a lot. I look forward to seeing more of your work!

P.S. - I don't know if you were going for a ranking in the Humor category (since it doesn't seem to be a funny game), but I gave you 1 star there anyway since I hate to see any category unrated

Bullet Break by JCMonkey 2018-04-26T14:04:18Z

Oh no, clowns! - I wasn't able to get very far. The sheer _impossibleness_ of keeping balls alive was a little much. - The music was very reminiscent of the Spore Spawn from Super Metroid (my favorite game). I liked it. - I have to give you points for theme: you truly combined two incompatible genres, and came up with a workable idea. It just needed more tweaking and polish.

Overall, good job! Ludum Dare is a difficult challenge anyway and the ideas that came out of this theme were very difficult to pull off in time.

Duality by freso 2018-04-28T18:58:13Z

That's extremely hard single player! It was a good concept but needed some polishing, in my opinion.

Rapid Fire by Anubhav Kashyap 2018-04-26T13:39:36Z

Well, as others have said, it could have used more polish; but I understand you were really trying hard just to get it out on time. - The graphics were really good! I liked the main character and he fit in the world really well. - Some feedback (a sound effect or a screen flash) might have been good so that the player knows when he's been hit, and having a jump height based on how long you hold the spacebar and not based on your velocity would have been a better system (in my opinion). @pebkac nailed the hard bits of the design. - The music was very reminiscent of those classic SNES RPGs, good pick there! - I liked the level design, it was intuitive and easy to navigate, though it could have used a little more variety in textures (I think).

I had a lot of fun playing it, good job!

Dancing Bandit by Tay 2018-04-28T19:17:15Z

Definitely a good prototype. I found it to be very hard and slow, but the graphics were good and the concept was solid. Good job!

ACCIDENTAL EXISTENTIAL by slovnoslomo 2018-04-27T03:37:07Z

Wow... that was deep  The graphics were excellent and the narrative was well put. The music was a little harsh but maybe that's just me. The themes of the narrative were so true to real life. This is a work of art. Good job!

Don't look at Greg by hankworx 2018-04-28T03:22:29Z

That's creepy... Good entry! I liked the premise and Greg kind of creeped me out :scream: The sound design was great as well, it kept me on the edge of my seat in suspense.

Well, for 12 hours, it's a good start. I thought the premise and the lines were funny. On the low-end PC setting the graphics loaded in a strange way that made it a little hard to look at. There also weren't that many objectives and I got to the end in a minute or two. I'd like to see what this would have looked like if it you had been able to put more time into it.

@sharks Definitely a good thing  Humor is my favorite category!

Math Drag Racer - First Ludum Dare and First Game Ever. by marioman68 2018-05-03T00:18:54Z

First off, good job on completing your first Ludum Dare! I liked the concept that you had, I would have liked to see it a bit longer (only two questions get me to the end) and with more variety. I understand you only had 72 hours but I have to critique honestly  The music was a good choice if a little grating after a bit. The graphics were consistent and not distracting from the gameplay. Overall, good job!

Late Night Shopping by Kciwsolb 2018-04-27T04:03:54Z

Almost! Late Night Shopping by Kciwsolb - Mozilla Firefox.jpg I liked the graphics in this one a lot, and it was fun to play. Sound design was excellent as well. Good job!

Haiti Kitty by Beebo Studios 2018-04-28T17:48:48Z

Charming graphics! I like the music as well and the gameplay was concise and easy to understand (besides the baseball one, it took me two tries). Overall, good job! It was fun to play and had me laughing the whole time!

Ratty's Stew: An Immersive Cooking Simulation by joekickass 2018-04-28T19:13:34Z

I enjoyed playing this one! The graphics were quite good, and the level design was intuitive and easy to navigate. The physics were a little buggy, I found my self getting hit by bugs a little too often, and the music was a very short loop that grated after a little bit. The cooking sim part of the game didn't seem to be there besides collecting the ingredients, but I couldn't think of any better way to do it. Overall, good job!

F.P.S - Frootz per Second by Albuquerque 2018-04-27T03:43:29Z

Moore frootz pleez! That was addicting, clever, and a unique interpretation of the theme. Good job!

clickjumper by Memedev0 2018-05-05T15:27:47Z

I liked the concept and graphics in this one. The gameplay was fluid and the level design was exceptional. Plus it's always fun to see games made in Blender (which I started out in, and still prefer for 3D games). Good job!

BlowScape by Fleoh 2018-04-28T17:44:38Z

The gameplay was confusing at first and the controls weren't very intuitive... but overall that's the only gripe I have with this game. The graphics were good and the music kept the suspense and sense of urgency up through the whole playthrough. The 'platformer' element seemed to be present only in the jumping, but it was a very challenging theme this time around. Excellently scoped and overall well polished entry. Good job!

Invitris by onnofal 2018-04-26T14:09:21Z

I actually like this a lot and I have no complaints! Graphics were good, music was fun, and as @lerg said, it would be great on mobile. Once you get the hang of it it's really fun! Good job!

PizzaBrawl by hank1996 2018-04-28T19:01:40Z

The gameplay is extremely difficult for me, but I liked the graphics a lot. It could have used some audio, but it was a good concept overall. Good job!

1st / 3rd Last Word by ketura 2018-04-28T18:10:42Z

I feel like the idea has potential, but it wasn't polished enough to be very fun. I had a very difficult time aiming the gun when I couldn't stand directly behind it, and there wasn't much feedback in things like the gun getting too hot, which would have made it much easier to play. I'd be interested in a post-jam version if you're going to make one, though.

Impossible Car Game by Pahlsoftware 2018-04-26T13:57:31Z

That was fun! I especially liked the music and humor. "Hint: Hints are useless. That's canon!" I made to ~80 seconds on my second run. I'll echo @Bookworm31 here as he has the same impressions as me: ``` Neat game! It’s an interesting concept and fun to play. I didn’t get a chance to try out the LAN arena, but that sounds really cool. Also, the music was amazing! The only thing that kinda bugged me was the edges of the infinite track; they were super unforgiving. Overall, really cool game! ``` Good job!

Fishing With Mr Bear by GexAlmighty 2018-04-26T13:49:17Z

I like the concept a lot! The randomizers did seem a little unfair but  Here's a couple other things: - The lighting was pretty good but the graphics in general were fairly basic. I know compo in 3D is really hard though  - The bear was funny! It scared me the first time but then it just got funny. @niterich nails it in terms of gameplay increasing suspense. - It didn't seem like catching fish actually made Mr. Bear happy? Or maybe that was just me.

Overall it was a good concept and fun to play. Good job!
