so cuuuuuuuuuute! is it also on indiexpo.net?

firewill 2017-04-26 06:26

Reaaally cute character, and I loved the design on the enemys too. I'm also as ucker for this type of game, tough a big part of that is based on enemy variety, I'd have loved to see many more bizarre creatures, even if they weren't fully animated.

Anyways, the game looks amazing, and the music is spot on. Controls feel a bit too floaty for my taste, but nothing major. huge props!

heini 2017-04-28 07:27

Nice game! Felt whole and had nice envolve idea.

reinhold-strodel 2017-04-28 14:43

This is one of the most polished and interesting art styles of this Ludum Dare I have seen so far!

camilo 2017-04-29 03:21

wow... those graphics are truly awesome, and that character is too cute! The gameplay reminded me to agar.io, which is cool.

Congrats!

tinyworlds 2017-04-29 23:01

Beautiful entry! I absolutely love the art and character design. While the enemies were clearly "bad" seeing them after I've grown .. it seemed like they also just wanted to survive. And while you two did not make the music, I think it's really fitting and adds a lot to the atmosphere! On the criticism, the controls in the smaller states felt a bit floaty. And maybe you could also think about supporting touch/mouse, I think it would work well with that. There was also a bug for me, that if I grew maximum size, the game sort of froze. The character switched back to a smaller costume and I couldn't steer anymore. All in all a really great game with beautiful art and great atmosphere!!

twinghosts 2017-04-30 19:10

Awesome! Loved the art style, the music and the gameplay. Small fun polished game with a nice atmosphere

boltkey 2017-04-30 19:38

Absolutely beautiful! Nothing particularly innovative or new, but the execution is really neat.

tommyflower 2017-05-01 10:19

I love this game!! Beautiful graphics, great environment, relaxing and cute!

drestuff 2017-05-01 11:13

Ah, such a relaxing atmosphere. This reminds me of the game flOw from Thatgamecompany. Great job! :sparkles:

la-mecanique-du-plastique 2017-05-01 17:38

That was very pretty, congratulations ! The inertia is a bit heavy, but everything else is gorgeous. Bravo !

occultone 2017-05-02 05:09

I Live-Streamed this game this past evening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfvbUFJnui4

I really enjoyed this, there was some serious game chug and framerate dips, but the game itself kept drawing me back into it as it unfolded and I hope you move forward with it!

foya 2017-05-02 12:26

Thank you so much all of you for the kind words, reviews and improvement suggestions! Any feedback is welcome and it really helps us to improve the game experience!

I'm really glad you like the art! I love to create small creatures and ecosystems, so this theme was perfect for me...and I managed to do everything I wanted within the deadline, so it was a good challenge!

It seems that on some computers, the movements are too floaty and slow, Lars is still working on the game so I hope we'll fix that soon!

Best,

ooku 2017-05-02 14:32

Very nice entry, thank you for the experience! I think when you play as the black guy with the lamp the scaling should be inverted: When you float left the character looks to the right. Or maybe this ist by intension?

larzan 2017-05-02 16:28

@ooku yes, you are absolutely right, that has been fixed in the PostCompo version (together with some other improvements)

thedoodleguy 2017-05-03 10:23

Gorgeous game, with beautiful sounds and illustration style. Simple game play with enough of a challenge so it is neither boring or frustrating, amazing! Great job

docgeraud 2017-05-03 10:26

Beautiful game! I've recognized the Ankama style (especially the Flynn one) from the very beginning, and I love it. I'm not sure the gauge really add to the game, I would have prefered to be surprised each time I grew. Anyway, it was a nice and relaxing experience. :]

spinaljack 2017-05-03 10:31

So cute, love those little white things with their tiny fangs. Didn't like turning into a black thing, was that because I ate too may of them?

diegoctorguet 2017-05-03 10:35

I love the mood and the atmosphere this game is able to give. The music is good, but the visuals are, for me, the key point in this work. Great job, guys!

eltee91 2017-05-03 11:14

Love the art! Music is very soothing and fits the game nicely. too bad the music isn't looping nicely. sfx is little off with the mood of the game. overall very cool game!

paulstraw 2017-05-03 11:32

Great artwork, and I'm a sucker for "eat to grow" games like this. Good stuff. 👍

jsjdev 2017-05-03 11:55

Nice game. I liked the peaceful audio and the art has an awesome style to it. Good job

turnwolf 2017-05-03 12:02

The visuals are amazing that style is perfect and caught my eye straight away! The sound effects are a little too loud I found and the running water didn't loop very well. I really liked the surprise of changing into a different creature when I had fully grown my first, that was a nice touch. I felt bad chasing around such cute little creatures! Great work really liked the game.

yami-no-tenshi-8 2017-05-03 12:02

I love the game mood and graphics. Atmosphere is great !!! Maybe a bit short and easy but the work done on it is impressive and it is really relaxing, congratulations !

rubyleehs 2017-05-03 12:10

Absolutely loved the mood and the atmosphere of this game, especially with the music/art complimenting it. Very peaceful though if the game ever gets an update/expanded upon, it may get repetitive very fast.

Solid game overall.

axoona 2017-05-03 12:50

nice game, I like the graphics and the mood. it's really peacefull regardless the fish-eat-fish theme. on the bad side the controls are a bit stiff though, I suppose it simulates water conditions, but it was really difficult to move the little fellow

siryakko 2017-05-03 13:17

That was wonderful. The graphics, the feeling, the mood. Once you get the control it's all fun. You should go further in that development

ilikescifi 2017-05-03 14:43

Oh... my... holy... FLOWER! How beautiful was that!? I love it! I really, really do!

aeveis 2017-05-03 14:46

Art was great! I would've liked the controls to be a bit better, or perhaps have a sense of progression where the smaller I am the easier I can move or so. Seems like there's some story with the growth as you turn into the eye thing, but it's not explained and also why the enemies swap is not explained either. Anyway pretty cool!

nofuel 2017-05-03 16:32

I really love the art style and the relaxing background music. The characters are well designed and looking adorable. The colors are beautiful and everything fits really good together. I only wish that I could have moved the little fish a bit better and that I wasn't that slow. Really good game!

failedstarfish 2017-05-03 17:24

The art in this game is fantastic, really liked the character design and mood. A very polished entry.

fiote 2017-05-03 17:30

Halfway trough the eating I actually become one of the black fishes. Was that supposed to happen? lol. Really cute character, both the white and the black ones. Fitting music and sound effects. Nice job!

himeija 2017-05-03 22:43

This game is sooo cute !! Really love the mood ! Great work !

gozz 2017-05-03 22:52

Wow ! Amazing work !!

I really like the graphics that are really really really cute. I was surprised to switch to "the dark side" but.. meh it had to be the way to get stronger ;)

The sounds are simple but effective the loop is really relaxing.

The controls are a bit hard to manage at first but well every LD entry has problems so great work !

harry-alissavakis 2017-05-03 23:07

Boy am I glad I'm in the compo and not the jam! This game is so gorgeous! Prettier than most games I've seen, ever, not just in the jam! Gameplay-wise it was also really interesting, you sure made me want to see what happens when you evolve to the final stage! My only issue is that the movement was stiff and really not that responsive. I guess you did it like that because when you get bigger it's harder to move, but I believe that just making the character slower could work. Nevertheless, it's a great entry, and definitely one of the prettiest ones!

coleslaughter 2017-05-04 03:05

The little white player avatar is officially the cutest thing I've seen this Ludum Dare. In fact everything just looked so smooth and polished.

Though I gotta say, the first time I accidentally ran into one of the dark enemy creatures it scared the hell out of me. The combination of a LOUD and harsh sound (especially compared to the rest of the soundtrack and noises) coupled with an unexpectedly nightmarish eating animation (in a good way, very smooth looking!) took me by surprise. I was a little confused as to why I started playing as the dark creature near the end though...

Regardless, this was a very charming little game. :)

foya 2017-05-04 13:11

Hey, thank you so much for the nice comments, we are glad you enjoyed the game!

It seems some of you need an explanation concerning the evolution of the creatures. Well, sometimes evolutions turn into something different and unexpected... So we just wanted to show there was no 'good guy' or 'bad guy' in this ecosystem, everyone is just trying to survive!

@coleslaughter ; @fiote ; @aeveis ; @spinaljack

those-30-ninjas 2017-05-05 14:54

I really love the aesthetic of the game. The player character is sooo adorable. Controls were a bit to floaty for my tastes, but it did fit and feel correct. The animation for eating a dust speck seemed a little long since you pass by the food so quickly. Really nice entry :)

icxon 2017-05-05 14:58

Reminds me 'Osmos' and 'Spore' of course, but it feels so different because of art and style. I like your palette and that game gives an ability to play as dark guys too.

Do you have any ideas how to expand this gameplay process? (e.g: evolution tree, special abilities, grouping with allies, some ultimate end-game goal?)

Difficulty curve is slightly sloping even for me (I'm not a hardcore gamer), but works well with this type of a control.

Thank you for this game! It was short, familiar, but fun to play.

jishenaz 2017-05-05 16:10

Very beautiful art style! Kind of like Feeding Frenzy, except much more cute. I did not understand why the player suddenly becomes one of the dark one-eyed creatures. Felt like a twist in the plot.

dick-claus 2017-05-05 17:25

So white and fluffy. But right now I know how it can evolve.

Amazing graphics.

nuebomundo 2017-05-06 01:00

Bright and clean art, impressive for a gamejam!

I feel like I did not really get what was the point in getting bigger / stronger by eating the enemies, as in the end I got back to the "cell" stage all the time.

Switching teams with the dark ones was an interesting change, although the gameplay felt slow and almost tedious (player controls did not help) at this point.

redblack-spade 2017-05-07 02:02

Wow! I was so surprised when I turned to that dark thing. I think that there are too many decorations at the first plan - sometimes it's unexpected to meet obstacle or bonus behind them cause you don't see the character. The music loop is too short - I tired of it too fast. I loved the art and the control are pretty smooth, it was a real joy to play your game because of that!

blackrose 2017-05-07 13:52

Love the art! The graphics are really good and so cute! Its a beautiful game ^^ Its a little hard to control.

Its a really good game. Good Job ^^

samusoidal 2017-05-08 22:50

Beautiful game! Overall: I thought the game was really good, the gameplay was fun and the difficulty was not too high, and the art was excellent. I would have liked to see an ending sequence instead of slam cutting back to the beginning, though, and the plants did hide some of the enemies (which makes for some very stressful reveals). Fun: I found the game extremely fun to play. The relaxing atmosphere lets you sit back and wonder what the next evolution will be. The controls were a little floaty, which made it hard to avoid those that want to eat you. Innovation: Unfortunately, there's a lot of 'eat to evolve' games out there, so there aren't that many points to be given for innovation. Theme: Fairly unique interpretation of the theme (it's a small world but look, I grow!), but nothing too original. I'm extremely harsh in this category though, so don't listen to me... Graphics: I liked the art style a lot, the characters were cute, and the animations were good. Audio: I know you opted out of this one, but I just want to say the music choice was superb, though the dark creature eating sound effect was a little harsh. Good job!

samusoidal 2017-05-08 22:50

[EDITED]

samusoidal 2017-05-08 22:51

I'm sorry about the multiple comments, the website is broken so bad (can't copy/paste anything at all or it won't publish).

mcfearless999 2017-05-14 03:44

The art is great but some times but the collisions don't always feel right

joemid 2017-05-16 20:12

This is gorgeous! Love the slipperiness of the controls- felt like being underwater. The twist caught me off guard for a moment, but I loved where it went. One of my favorites from this jam! EDIT: The post jam game updates are awesome!

jacob-brown 2017-05-16 22:33

Cute game! Great art assets. I would have Liked to see Menus to pause, restart, mute, etc. I was confused why I started white and changed to black, plot wise I'm not sure why I would change to the black "evil" characters then evolve into a final white form. Few interesting collisions but nothing too bad. Finally there was no obstacle for the final evolution of either the white or black so those levels just seemed pointless to me but maybe it adds to the feel of the game? Overall awesome concept and fun little game!

jlewis 2017-05-18 12:29

A very nicely presented game! The art is solid, very well done and nicely implimented. There's a nice texture to everything that makes it all unify nicely. The character designs very readable. I knew who the good creatures were, who the bad creatures where, and what I could eat. All instantly.

A point for improvement: At some point, when I got big enough, there was a nice swap. Where I played as the enemy like creatures and got to eat the nicer creatures. I felt like this was some sort of allegory on how enemies see eachother. If it **wasn't**, then I dont feel like the swap made a lot of sense and needs to explain what happened and why. If it **was** then I feel it could of been easily missed, again needs a bit of work to make it read a tiny bit better.

All in all though it's a very charming little game. Well done!

pascalman 2017-05-18 15:05

Good progress after Compo. Great art and original idea! Sound looks like my: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/the-whole-truth-about-nature-selection. Great job!

richard-michael-smith 2017-05-18 18:17

This is very atmospheric - the art is excellent and you chose a perfect piece of music to fit the game - in fact, the music reminds me of "Electroplankton" on the Nintendo DS. The game mechanic was simple and understandable - of course it would be nice to have some animation when getting bigger (but it's very easy to say that when I'm not under the time constraints of 72 hours!). I see that, on the end screen you say "To be continued" does this mean you plan on developing it further or is this just a case of: always leave your audience wanting m

dev-ff 2017-05-19 12:53

Looks very polished, has a fitting and relaxing background music and a balanced difficulty. Nicely done!
