Great entry! I really wanted some to take the theme and make a terrarium builder and yours turned out really well!! On the criticism. Sometimes it was hard to see where I place my object in 3D space. Being able to rotate the container on the vertical axis would have helped a bit. I also agree with @nuclearfriend that there should be a way to hide the UI in the WebGL version, long enough to take a screenshot. Also, I think this would greatly benefit from sound in terms of atmosphere, making the worlds you build a lot more "lively". I also would have wished the shark would have reacted to me in some way. Maybe on what I build or when I hover over him. All in all a really great entry, with some beautiful, colorful art!
Interesting concept! Took me some time to figure out to different control schemes for the puzzles, maybe this could have been more consistent. But once I got it, it was really smoothly. There also is a bug for me that the game sometime doesn't start the first dialogue when I load it up. Had to start it multiple times for it to work. Graphics reminded me a bit at the game Facade, and worked well with the idea. Interesting idea, love to see a game tackling awkward conversations x)
Beautiful entry! I absolutely love the art and character design. While the enemies were clearly "bad" seeing them after I've grown .. it seemed like they also just wanted to survive. And while you two did not make the music, I think it's really fitting and adds a lot to the atmosphere! On the criticism, the controls in the smaller states felt a bit floaty. And maybe you could also think about supporting touch/mouse, I think it would work well with that. There was also a bug for me, that if I grew maximum size, the game sort of froze. The character switched back to a smaller costume and I couldn't steer anymore. All in all a really great game with beautiful art and great atmosphere!!
Looks great, the itch.io page is beautiful! Sadly I can't play it :( Is it possible to release a Linux/Web version?
Hm as this seems to be made with Unity, could you maybe also provide a Linux version? Should not be too much of a hassle and Linux users will be positively surprised :)
Haha really nice writing, that was unexpected! Loved especially mr shitmouth badger. The game felt really smooth and I always knew what to do, plus the idea of shaking the snowglobe to solve puzzles is really interesting for a short game. The narration was also really good, possibly the best of this Ludum Dare .. Also, props for providing a Linux version, works like a charm! All in all a really great entry and take on the theme!
Thanks @terracottafrog, @prettylucky and @local-minimum for the extensive feedback :) The play experience is so different from player to player, as I used "random numbers" to decide when to spawn the next seed/branch. This made it really hard to balance in the end and I run out of time to change it. Also @local-minimum: yes I realized it was looking like a fireplace as I was drawing it too, so I definitively agree ^^ Ran out of time to redo it, the hut was done in the very end. And @terracotta-frog, on the atmospheric effects. I made a subtle water animation, because I felt the same, but I ended up removing it from the game later, as it tripled the games size. Here is what it looked like (it's really subtle): http://orig15.deviantart.net/d459/f/2017/120/c/0/screen7_water_by_rick_tinyworlds-db7mlmu.gif In the concept art I also had some reflections in the water, which added a lot to the visual look .. but no time to make such a shader ^^
@impbox Thanks for the feedback! The balance is quite different from player to player, as I unfortunately used random numbers in the wrong places of the design.
@sean-s-leblanc Thanks for the thought-trough critique Sean!
Thanks for the great feedback @foya and @fisilva! There actually was a water animation in the game, but I removed it from the Web version, as it increased the file size by 10mb. I thought about multiplayer too, maybe this is sth. I could do in a future project :)
Thank you @teslov @zaibakk @dakikad @iluvatar and @cerno-b for the feedback! Really interesting :) As far as it goes with the itch.io App glitch @cerno-b I'm gonna contact the itch guys. I checked and it's not marked for Windows. (the Browser version works on all major desktop platforms tho)
@jordgubben Thank you for the feedback! I actually know Petterson and Findus, the TV series was/is quite popular in Germany :)
@tajamsoft Interesting. What browser did you use?
Thanks for the comments! Maybe the next commenters can go into more detail again on why/how they like or dislike a certain part of the game. This helps a lot :))
I really enjoyed this! Thanks for making it :) The mood was great, it felt mysterious and always kept me curious what would happen next.
Can't play the game :/ Unity games have this weird glitch right now on my system (Linux Mint 18.1), that mouse input does not work in Fullscreen mode. Maybe you could enable the menu for choosing the screen resolution, that usually shows when starting Unity games.
This was really fun to play with! I loved discovering new combinations, and there was always sort of an "aha" moment once I succeeded with a combination. The music was very relaxing and fitting, and reminded me a bit at Oblivion or Minecraft from the mood. The sounds also nicely supported the gameplay, and were not annoying even after 20mins of playing. Also cool idea to use the book to give the player hints. Maybe there could have been additional hints if you get stuck, but maybe the absence of this will lead to a metagame, where player exchange combinations. Really cool, innovative game, I could play for a long time! :)
Really interesting/crazy take on the jam. I agree with the other commenters that the waiting time between answers was a bit too long. On the one hand it supported the mood, on the other it was really annoying once you wanted to replay it. Graphics-wise this is a really sweet entry, I really like the panda model. Maybe you could have moved the stats more to the middle, they are a bit out of sight on the right. Or maybe also visualize the actions with the snails on the body. So all in all, a great, really interesting entry!
Interesting entry!! I felt the tenseness of the water rising, especially later in the game, once I waited for the escape ship. Great idea to use a timer there & the flood sounds! The controls were a bit unusual, but once I got used to them, they were very quick to use. The ingame tutorial definitively helped there.
All in all a cool entry, with a tense gameplay!
Really cute, relaxing game with beautiful graphics! The monsters are obviously still unfinished in their behavior, but I really enjoyed seeing them build stuff and hop around my world. The ambient sound was very subtle and relaxing, but I feel the loop could be a bit longer, I could hear it repeating. Also the ponds are a bit glitchy if you place them right next to each other. All in all a really cool entry with beautiful little characters!
Great game! I don't know the water toys you used for inspiration, but what I know is that I never saw someone taking the concept and making a game based on it :) The game is really fun, especially with the awesome sounds and music. The colors also support the light, playful mood. On the criticism: On German Keyboards the Y key is somewhere else. Maybe allow for configuration of the keys. I also found a glitch, that if you you leave the main cube and keep jumping in the air, the toy never comes down and there is no way to reset things. All in all, a really fun, playful entry!
Very fun, well-rounded game! The music was wonderfully atmospheric & really made the game good for me. The enemies had interesting variations and always posed a new challenge to master. And restarting was pretty painless, with the same button as used for shooting. The way the player jet moved felt also really good, very dynamic and physical.
All in all a really polished, well-designed entry!
Also unrelated note to @red-fan-games : sexy avatar! The Linux version works like a charm for me :)
Can't run the game, but it looks great from the screenshots! Auswahl_246.png
Interesting game! The wobbly car physics felt really interesting. In the last rounds I figured you could just survive if you camp at the last bunny. Maybe rooster's beams could stack to remove this option. The bunnies were really cute and I liked the idea of having a carrot car ^^ I just wonder why the bunnies don't eat their cars and houses. Also, it would have been interesting to have a different, emergent icon for a rooster currently attacking a bunny. This way the player is more likely to quickly race to the ones being abducted.
All in all a cool entry! Could be even better with sound :)
Interesting game! Loved the art and sound design! Maybe the flower could be placed more into the middle, as it's so important for the game. Also, I wasn't realizing at first that the shadow monsters attack the stars, affecting the flower. Some visual feedback would have been helpful there. And maybe you could've also switched up the gameplay a bit/introducing new elements to shooting the monsters. Although repeating the same thing can be very relaxing too, depends what you want to achieve.
All in all a really cool entry for the ears and eyes!
Great entry! I felt like the creature was confused, looking at the level design and character design. Much like the workers of the mine. It's like they disturbed the sleep of the monster, and both are just confused and not understanding each other. The graphics were great, as well as the atmosphere set trough design, lighting and sounds. I also really liked how the monster was animated, it felt really tangible. I wished for it to be longer, I want to know what happens to the monster.
All in all a really good entry with great atmosphere!
Great game! You really managed to balance the message with a more fun, addictive game design! It's hard to talk with people about those topics, so maybe this is a way to approach things. This overall also felt really polished, like an app you could download from the store. And I tested the WebGL build on my Linux machine, works nicely :) All in all a really good game with a great message/messages!
Kudos for actually managing to finish this! Great take on the theme :D
@flankstaek I so wanted to add this! Sadly it's not possible with Bitsy. Having audio at all is a hack. Playing a hidden Youtube video for the sound ;)
@gelisam: I wanted to add more interaction/ people reacting on what you found. But that doesn't seem to be possible with Bitsy (the engine). So this really is just a playable narrative right now :) I also noticed the bug with the walking controls, good call. Can't change that though, that's due to the engine.
@sean-s-leblanc: Thank you for the feedback! Fixed everything but the walking :) Wonder where the bug could possibly have come from.
@remco Nono, the foxes are all safe in their home due to the frosty weather :yum: Oh I really liked Lieve Oma! It may have been an unconscious inspiration :) Oh and good call with the flower seeds .. probably the nicest bug found so far ^^
@tuism: Thanks for the feedback! The lack of agency is due engine constrictions. I wanted characters to react on what you pick up, but there doesn't seem to be a way to see if the player has the item or not.
@jjjason: I made a couple of smaller things with Bitsy before, but nothing really finished. It's really limited, but also really fun. Really forces you to focus on making a game and telling a story and don't "waste time" on graphics or coding :) Definitively could recommend toying a bit around with it!
@iluvatar: Thank you, that was an interesting perspective with the sound! A let's player actually put calm music on top of the ambient sounds as you suggested and it worked really well :)
@edmond00: I looked at what the theme implies: "the less you have the better it is" vs. the more you have the worse it is :) But honestly I twisted the theme a little to make something positive and cute out of it ^^
This is too cute! I love this fox :)) The music was nice and relaxing and the artstyle simple but really cute and effective! I liked especially the fox animations. Great game!
Fun game! Had me strategizing over how to best cheat the system. Ended up planting several decoys and gardening the plot closest to the drop off point. What I think you could improve on is the player movement - making the player stop faster in place maybe. All in all a fun, unique game!
Oh my god this is so cute! I care about my birds so much :DD But all the animals in this are just too adorable and nicely animated! The sound design also works really well to add more character and make the birbs come alive. Thank you for making this! :)
Really interesting, unique concept and the artstyle is lovely. I don't get how foxes would hurt sheep larger then them, but ok ^^ Just loved seeing the sheep flocking together, it is for some reason really satisfying.
This was wonderfully relaxing, thank you! Would have loved a bit more instructions at the start, as I never worked as a barista, but it was also fun to figure stuff out on my own :D
Oh no I am a bad crazy cat lady. Interesting games with cats! It seems like I sometimes can't pick-up cats (HTML5 version), or maybe the hitbox is a bit small. Anyway, cute idea! :)
Wow those chickens are frustrating! :D Interesting concept! Might have been good to have some narrative explanation for the chicken - why do I have so many chicken in packages and why are they so angry at me? I liked the style of the main character, although it felt out of place with the rest of the game. All in all a interesting game. Keep it up!
Really cute game with lovely graphics! Didn't think I would play a game where I headbutt children one day :D
Oh no the cats ;_; Why are they all so stupid and jump down?? Fun little game, feels pretty polished for a gamejam.
This is sooo good! I love the characters, I just wanna dance along with the music and the game concept is so fresh and unique. Really well done!!
Nice game! You should upload some screenshots :) The intro pixelart was just super-gorgeous! You can see the artists spent a lot of time on that. The gameplay itself is fun. Don't think I've ever played something like that. Would be nice to have kind of loot checkpoints or and end to the looted ship. So far there isn't really much incentive to go back. All in all a cool game! Would be interesting to see what you would do with a bit more time :)
Really fun game, love the pumping music! Didn't get at first that you upgrade the enemies, but I guess that was intended :D Also I have to agree on the menus! Would be way nicer if you could just do it with the keyboard, as you don't use the mouse for gameplay. All in all a really solid, fun entry!
Beautiful game! Reminds me at the early Samorost titles in the way you explore the world. Gave me a lot of "Aha" moments. Plus the artstyle and audio is really lovely :) Great entry!
I need a "Cute" voting category for this :D The game is really to adorable ^^ Love the artstyle as well! The music gets a bit repetitive over time, but I also enjoy it :) Oh and it did get a bit frustrating in the end (felt like parking a car in a tiny spot), but it still was fun due to the graphics and setting. Really enjoyed this!
Interesting game! The rats really made the world feel alive while adding a layer to the gameplay, which I really liked. Would have been nice to have some way/tools to scare off the rats. Maybe even a special ability. All in all an interesting, atmospheric game!
Nice! I like the graphics design aesthetics. Not sure if I was supposed to play it like that, but what I found the most effective was constantly moving down while only using left and right to avoid enemies. Fun game!
I fell in love with this game the moment I saw the pixelart animations! Really interesting concept with the phone .. it definitively felt like it was getting too much at some point. I also really liked the audio and writing .. makes me want to play again and check out the other narratives :) Really cool entry!
Really interesting concept and mood! Love the door-kicking feedback.
I really love the art style! Especially the main character has well .. so much character to it! Really unique, atmospheric game. Would love to see what would you could have done with a bit more time gameplay-wise :)
Fun game! Ended up placing my hammer in the middle once there were too many bunnies and clicked frantically :D Would be nice to have some variation in the gameplay, i.e. bombs that spawn with whom you can kill many poor bun buns. Also +1 for the ecology idea.
Damn the movement and shooting in this feel so good! Also interesting concept with the hive awakening. And the sound design ... damn. The double jumps and wall jumps were sometimes a bit hard for me, but that might also be me not playing platformers often. All in all a really awesome, atmospheric entry!
Thank you for the love everyone! Good to hear after being a bit destroyed right now ;_;
@brandann It's done with Stencyl, which has visual ~~coding~~ scripting. But if you're interested in that I can upload the source file :)
@Weekend-Panda That's interesting, I didn't know people get dizzy from screenshake sometimes. If I'm gonna continue it I'm gonna add an option to disable it :)
@Hisfantor You can't finish the game currently as I sadly ran out of time to implement the shop part of the game. Thanks for playing :)
Such a good game! I love the artstyle, all the kitchen monsters are super adorable c:
I sucked hard at this so I'm not sure what I missed at the end, but I liked what I saw so far ^^ It's an interesting combination of genres, kinda reminds me a bit of what I saw of the Undertale battle mechanics. Seconding that it would be nice to have some pauses in the gameplay to read the messages. Great entry, especially for your first LD. Looking forward to more of you! :)
